Oasis streams soared before Liam and Noel Gallagher announced reunion tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Streams of Oasis songs have soared in the week before their reunion announced.
On Tuesday morning (27.08.24), Liam and Noel Gallagher have confirmed their first UK and Ireland tour in 16 years with the Britpop legends set to perform shows in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin in 2025.
Spotify has revealed that in the leadup to the official announcement, there was a huge spike in people listening to the band’s catalogue on the platform.
A spokesperson for the streaming service said: “Streams of Oasis increased over 160 percent globally from 9-11am UTC on Monday 26 August vs. one week prior.
“The increase in streams was continuing to grow throughout yesterday (26.08.24).”
The spike was calculated in the hours immediately after the brothers teased this morning’s announcement, compared with the same period one week earlier.
The ‘Don’t Back In Anger’ Britpop legends split in 2009 after Liam and Noel Gallagher fell out on tour, but now the brothers have posed for their first photograph together in well over a decade to confirm their reunion shows.
They said in a statement: “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”
Oasis split in acrimonious circumstances 15 years ago, when Noel claimed that he couldn’t work with his brother “a day longer”.
There had been hopes for a reunion for years, but things picked up steam over the last week, especially after Liam’s tease for fans during his Reading Festival performance on Sunday (25.08.24).
Before singing ‘Half The World Away’, he told the crowd: “I wanna dedicate this song to Noel Gallagher.”
The group’s debut album ‘Definitely Maybe’ was released on August 29, 1994, and featured a host of hit singles, including ‘Supersonic’, ‘Shakermaker’, and ‘Live Forever’.
The record also became the fastest-selling debut LP in British music history at the time.
Liam teased a mysterious date towards the end of his set at Reading, when “27.08.24” appeared on a screen behind him, while the same date also appeared on Liam and Noel’s X accounts.
Earlier in the day, the singer dropped another hint about Oasis’ potential comeback as he tweeted: “I never did like that word FORMER (sic)”

Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley teases announcement on same day Linkin Park countdown ends

OHMYGOSSIP — Deryck Whibley has teased an announcement on the same day Linkin Park’s countdown ends.
The Sum 41 frontman – whose ‘In Too Deep’ band will end their farewell tour in January 2025 – has told fans to expect some news from him this week.
On the group’s official X account, a post reads: “Tune in Wednesday morning, Deryck Whibley announcement.”
On Wednesday (28.08.24), Linkin Park’s own countdown is set to end, prompting speculation that he could be the one to replace Chester Bennington.
The ‘In The End’ rocker’s iconic frontman died in 2017, and there have long been rumours the group will embark on a reunion tour.
In April, Billboard reported that bandmates Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Dave Farrell have been “mulling a possible 2025 reunion tour”.
At the time, it was suggested the trio were “considering hiring a female vocalist” to “succeed” their late friend.
Although there’s no confirmation Deryck and Linkin Park’s announcement are connected, some fans are hoping that could be the case.
Deryck and Mike shared the stage at Reading and Leeds Festival in 2018 for a special rendition of ‘Faint’.
Evanesence singer Amy Lee has since shot down suggestions she is lined up to join Linkin Park, which comes as fans were hoping she could be the mystery singer.
She told iHeartRadio Canada: “That is an incredible compliment. I have not heard that. No, I have not been contacted or anything like that. But [I’m a] huge fan feel like our worlds, our fanbases are a lot of the same people.”
She joked they “should ask”, and despite her own hectic schedule she “might do it part-time”.
Last month, guitarist Mike Shinoda insisted once there is something firm to announce, fans will hear the news direct from the ‘What I’ve Done’ group.
He told Revolver magazine: “People always ask what’s next for the band, and the best answer I can ever give anybody is when there’s something to tell you, we will tell you.”

Joe Jonas admits Only Love was originally going to be a Jonas Brothers song

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Jonas’ song ‘Only Love’ was originally meant to be a Jonas Brothers track.
The 35-year-old musician – who reunited with his brothers Nick and Kevin in 2019 for ‘Happiness Begins’ before releasing ‘The Album’ last year – has opened up on how a writing session with producer Joel Little in Australia was the spark he needed as he was going through a public divorce with Sophie Turner.
He told Billboard magazine: “I noticed that the song was going toward the direction of some personal stuff that I went through.
“So I go to Kevin and Nick, ‘Hey, can I use this as a catapult to go explore what this sound could be, and also what I’m trying to figure out emotionally?’
“They were very supportive — Nick said, ‘Well, damn, I really like that song. But I get what you need to do, so go for it.’ ”
The track was the springboard for his upcoming solo album ‘Music for People Who Believe in Love’, and he hopes the record can support his fans through their own tough times.
He added: “At the core of it, if this body of work helps people through what they’re going through, that’s all I can really wish for.”
Meanwhile, Republic’s vice president of marketing strategy Alyssa LoPresti heaped praise on the authenticity Joe is bringing to the new collection of tsongs, which include collaborations with the likes of Alexander 23, Jason Evigan, Tommy English and Justin Tranter.
She said: “This campaign starts and ends with Joe.
“From his personal taste in music, which is highlighted by [his] notable and exciting choice of collaborators, to the way he’s engaging with fans on his platforms and the content he’s filmed to support the release, it is all authentic to who Joe is and reflective of this chapter of his life.”

Disclosure gig cancelled due to overcrowding

OHMYGOSSIP — Disclosure’s performance at a dance event in London over the weekend (24-25.08.24) was halted after just five minutes due to overcrowding.
The duo took to the stage to perform as part of the Boiler Room’s World Tour event at Lee Valley Showground in Waltham Cross on Sunday (25.08.24) but the gig was axed just minutes after they started their set as crowd surges in the tent led to safety fears.
A source told MixMag: “[People started] queuing to enter the tent half an hour before Disclosure’s set … [After five minutes security] closed off the tent and barricaded the entrance, moving people back”.
The band explained the cancellation in a message posted on Instagram, writing: “It’s out of our control but the festival has deemed it unsafe for us to play due to crowd surges. We worked really hard on the set for months, flew from Los Angeles just to do it and are honestly heartbroken we can’t play.
“We won’t be coming back on, but hope to see you soon again London.”
Boiler Room added in a statement: “Our secret guests, Disclosure, pulled a massive crowd in London … We unfortunately had to halt their set due to such high demand – not their fault … [It] became clear five minutes into their set that a big proportion of festivalgoers wanted to get into the tent to see them, so as a safety precaution, the set was halted.”
After being unable to play at the event, the duo went on to perform a pop-up gig at the Kindred record store in North London instead and the fun set helped them end their weekend on a high.
In a post on Instagram, they thanked fans for coming to see them, writing: “Big up everyone that came down … That room was so sweaty by the end but we managed to flip the whole weekend on its head with your energy. Big love.”

Alan McGee suspects that Noel and Liam Gallagher’s mother Peggy is behind Oasis reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel and Liam Gallagher’s mother Peggy is a key factor behind the Oasis reunion, according to Alan McGee.
The ‘Roll With It’ rockers have confirmed their much-anticipated comeback with a series of gigs in the UK and Ireland next year and McGee – who signed the Britpop legends to his Creation Records label in 1993 – suspects that Peggy, 81, was the driving force behind the siblings making their peace after 15 years of feuding.
Alan told Virgin Radio: “I’m sure she is behind the whole thing.
“Peggy is great, she is rocking on.”
The former record label boss also doubts that Noel and Liam will fall out again amid the pair’s often tempestuous relationship.
McGee said: “They’re really professional. I don’t think it (falling out) will be an issue.”
Meanwhile, music insiders have revealed that bands including Fontaines DC and Kasabian – as well as Liam’s son Gene’s band Villanelle – are in the frame to open the shows in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Opening for Oasis is the hottest ticket in town.
“Talks are ongoing with groups like Fontaines DC and Kasabian, as well as Gene Gallagher’s band Villanelle who opened for Liam’s ‘Definitely Maybe’ tour.
“As Liam would say, the chance to perform at those shows would be ‘biblical’.”
There had been speculation about a possible Oasis reunion but things ramped up after Liam teased fans during his performance at Reading Festival on Sunday (25.08.24).
The 51-year-old musician hinted at a mysterious date towards the end of his set at Reading, when “27.08.24” appeared on a screen behind him, while the same date also appeared on Liam and Noel’s X accounts.
In a statement confirming their return, the ‘Supersonic’ band said: “The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.”

Halsey announces ‘confessional’ album The Great Impersonator

OHMYGOSSIP — Halsey has announced the “confessional concept album” ‘The Great Impersonator’.
The 29-year-old singer – who uses she/they pronouns – released the trailer for their latest record on Tuesday (27.08.24) where they confess their fears it would be the “last one I ever made” after suffering from health issues including Lupus and a rare lymphoproliferative disorder.
In a teaser clip, Halsey says: “I really thought this album would be the last one I ever made.”
The trailer features a series of clips where the ‘You Should Be Sad’ artist sports clothing and hairstyles from decades gone by – even cosplaying as David Bowie and Britney Spears – as they ponder what life would have been like if they had been a performer in a different era.
Halsey – who was born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane – said: “What if I debuted in the early 2000s? The 90s? The 80s? The 70s?”
The trailer includes snippets of unreleased music that capture the different decades in music.
They conclude: “If it all ended right now, is this a person you’d be proud to leave behind? Is it even you?”
Halsey paid homage to Britney Spears on their single ‘Lucky’ – which shares its name with Britney’s 2000 single – and revealed that she “shared everything” with the ‘Toxic’ hitmaker after the pop icon deleted a social media post slamming the video for the song.
They told BBC Radio 1: “I shared everything with her every step of the way, down from like the first demo of the song. And I sent her like a shot for shot treatment of the music video, just because I wanted to make sure I was totally nailing it.”

Adele’s Munich concert venue to become first portable stadium in the world

OHMYGOSSIP — Adele’s Munich residency venue is set to become the world’s first portable stadium.
The ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ singer will play her final show in the German city on Saturday (31.08.24) and the 74,000-capacity purpose-built structure could be used to hold major concerts around the globe – much like the ABBA Arena constructed in East London for their digital Voyage concert residency.
A music insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It would have been a catastrophic loss of money for an entire stadium to be built only for these ten Adele shows, even though the tickets aren’t cheap. But a load of different superstars, such as Beyonce or Taylor Swift, could use the venue in years to come.
“Obviously it’s been built around Adele, so the dream would be for her to use it in other places, but she is eager to have a break. It only took a few weeks to construct it, so it wouldn’t be hard to take it down and put it up again in an entirely different city.
“There is scope to do more impressive staging when it is one place, rather than kit being moved in and out of stadiums in different cities each night.”
Once her shows in Munich are complete, Adele, 36, will return to Las Vegas to finish her Weekends with Adele residency before putting her music career on hold once that ends in November.
A source told The Sun: “She has had a busy few years since releasing her album ’30’ in 2021, and it has surpassed her expectations.
“Adele has had incredible opportunities and it’s been a dream come true. No other artist has ever done anything like this residency and she feels like it is a real moment of crowning glory.”

Oasis fans must answer trivia question to secure pre-sale ballot place

OHMYGOSSIP — Oasis fans hoping to get tickets for the band’s reunion shows are being asked a trivia question to secure access to a pre-sale ballot.
The ‘Champagne Supernova’ band have announced that they will be getting back together for a series of shows in the UK and Ireland after brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher ended their 15-year feud and fans are being posed with a teaser to demonstrate their knowledge of the band to gain an advantage in the clamour for tickets that go on general sale on Saturday (31.08.24).
They are asked: “Who was the drummer in the initial Oasis line up?”
Multiple choice answers are given in the form of Chris Sharrock, Tony McCarroll and Alan White. The correct answer is McCarroll – who was in the Britpop band from their formation in 1991 until 1995.
Fans are also asked how many times they have seen Oasis perform, although this is not thought to have any bearing on ballot eligibility.
A message on the Oasis site reads: “Successful applicants will receive an email with full access information the morning of Friday 30th August. Success in the ballot will not guarantee tickets.
“Tickets will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Due to the extremely high volume of entries, confirmation emails may be delayed. Please be assured that everyone who has correctly filled out the ballot form before 7pm Wednesday 28th August will receive the confirmation email.”
Oasis will make their long-awaited return next summer and DJ Kevin McManus suggested the demand for tickets will “absolutely dwarf” that for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows.
He told ITV: “I think everybody is going to try and get a ticket.
“Taylor Swift was obviously the big deal this summer, I think it’s going to absolutely dwarf that, just because it’s them and there’s that talk.
“And there’s always going to be that ‘are they going to do it? Are they going to fall out before the first show, are they going to fall out after five shows? Will they do the rest?’
“There’s always going to be that air of jeopardy.”

Oasis release statement confirming Glastonbury 2025 status

OHMYGOSSIP — Oasis have told fans they will not be headlining Glastonbury in 2025.
This week, brothers Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher ended their 15-year feud to reunite and announce the ‘Oasis Live ’25’ tour, which kicks off at the Cardiff Principality Stadium on July 4.
Speculation has been rife that the ‘Supersonic’ rockers would also top the bill at Michael and Emily Eavis’ world famous festival held on Worthy Farm in Somerset, South West England, at the end of June, but the siblings have categorically stated that they will not be performing.
A statement released on Oasis’ official social media channels on Wednesday (28.08.24) read: “Despite media speculation, Oasis will not be playing Glastonbury 2025 or any other festivals next year.
“The only way to see the band perform will be on their Oasis Live ’25 World Tour.”
Oasis made their debut at Glastonbury in 1994 and their Sunday afternoon set is considered to be one of the festival’s best ever.
The band – whose 1994 LP ‘Definitely Maybe’ had become the fastest-selling debut album in British music history at the time – returned a year later in 1995 as Friday night headliners for the festival’s 25th anniversary.
In 2004, Oasis headlined for a second time bringing a greatest hits set to the Pyramid Stage on the Friday evening during a break between albums.
Following their split in 2009, Liam has been a regular performer at Glastonbury.
In 2013, his short-lived band Beady Eye played a surprise gig on the Other Stage at 11am on the Friday morning.
In 2017, Liam returned as a solo artist to the Other Stage on Saturday afternoon, closing his setlist with a version of ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’ – originally sung by Noel – which he dedicated to the victims of the Grenfell Tower tragedy and the Manchester Arena attack, prompting a mass singalong from the huge crowd that had gathered to watch him.
The 51-year-old singer was back on the Pyramid Stage in 2019 playing before headliners The Killers, delivering a set packed with Oasis hits, including ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’, ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Champagne Supernova”.
Noel, 57, brought his High Flying Birds to the Pyramid Stage in 2022 for his only solo Glastonbury appearance. Performing before Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney headlined. He also treated fans to several Oasis classics such as ‘The Importance of Being Idle’, ‘Little By Little’, ‘Whatever’ and 1995 number one ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’.
The guitarist has been a regular visitor to Glastonbury, choosing to enjoy the event as a punter.
Speaking in Michael and Emily Eavis’ ‘Glastonbury 50’ book, he said: “There are literally hundreds of festivals in the world, and I should know because I’ve played most, if not all, of them. The funny thing is, though, there’s really only one festival in the world – in the truest sense of the word, anyway. Glastonbury is more important than Christmas. Glastonbury is more fun than New Year. Glastonbury can be brutal. Glastonbury can be magical.”
Oasis have announced 14 stadium shows across the UK and Ireland next summer. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Saturday (31.08.24).

Chappell Roan is ‘busy’ penning new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Chappell Roan is “busy” penning new music.
The viral sensation topped the charts with her debut studio album, 2023’s ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’, and another album is seemingly in the works.
Her manager, Nick Bobetsky, told Music Business Worldwide: “She’s been busy writing. I do think that we’re likely going to embrace a very similar plan that we did for this album, which is that when she finishes a song she loves, we put our heads together and quickly work to get that music out. That’s what we did with ‘Good Luck Babe.’”
Although the ‘Casual’ hitmaker is keen to deliver new singles for her fans as and when she’s “ready”, her team know they are eager for a full body of work.
Bobetsky explained: “Chappell Roan is absolutely an album artist. I think that’s what people want from her, big picture. I don’t think that takes away from the impact of singles.
“It’s partly a question of when the fans are asking for an album, and we have a lot of insight into that sort of thing.
“There are arguments to be had about how you build an album out these days. Sometimes putting a record out with no lead-up singles can be very impactful.
“I think right now Chappell wants to feel free to put music out when it’s ready and when she’s excited about letting people hear it. And I think that’s what the fans want as well.”
In a recent interview, the 26-year-old pop star insisted she never got into music to top the charts.
The singer – whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz – told ‘SNL’ star Bowen Yang for Interview magazine: “I’ve never given a f*** about the charts or being on the radio, but it’s so crazy how industry people are taking me more seriously than before.”
She continued: “My career doesn’t mean anything more now that I have a charting album and song. If anything, I’m just like, ‘F*** you guys for not seeing what actually matters.”

Metallica pay tribute to fan after tragic death at their concert

OHMYGOSSIP — Metallica have paid tribute to a fan who died at their concert last week.
The heavy metal legends played the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Canada on Friday (23.08.24) as part of their ‘M72 World Tour’, and they have sent their “condolences” to Lorne’s (aka Viking) family and said they were “touched” to spend his “final time” with him.
Alongside a picture of the fan, the band wrote on Instagram this week: “Friday night, August 23rd, in Edmonton we lost a Metallica family member at the show. He died due to health conditions. Leaving the earthly body and onto the next adventure. Very sad when death happens, but we’re touched that he spent some of his final, hopefully joyful, time with us. Our condolences to the family and friends of Lorne ‘Viking.’”
Lorne is said to have received “aggressive CPR” after falling sick in the VIP area, the front mosh pit, at the show.
The medical issue he suffered is unknown.
A Facebook user by the name Erika Oldale claims she was a friend of Lorne and shared her account of losing her “dear friend”.
She wrote in the Discussion section of the ‘M72 World Tour 2023/2024 (Metallica)’ group: “Edmonton concert on Friday night, my friend Lorne suffered a medical issue and was taken out of the snake pit on a stretcher while EMS did aggressive CPR. Despite all their efforts, Lorne did not survive. Seeing the outpouring of concern and well wishes makes us that were blessed to call him friend feel a little less lost and alone. Thank you to the concert goers for that. He was the kindest soul. We all called him Viking. He will be missed terribly!! Please crank up a Metallica song, and raise a glass for the Viking!! RIP my dear friend.”

Rita Ora reveals two ‘very important’ things she must do before going on stage

OHMYGOSSIP — Rita Ora likes to have a “big lunch” and a tequila before she goes on stage.
The 33-year-old pop star performed at Manchester Pride on Saturday (24.08.24) and revealed ahead of going on to perform her biggest hits for the crowd of 17,000 that a takeaway and a shot of alcohol is “very important” to make sure her energy levels stay up throughout.
She told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “I like a good, big lunch to keep my energy up before a show. It’s very important for me.
“I would love to have a chippy if I have time. And for me, it’s gravy all the way.
“And I love a tequila soda or vodka soda with lime.”
The ‘Anywhere’ hitmaker was then asked what it was like to perform for her gay fans and recalled falling “in love” with dance music during her younger years when she would go out clubbing on the scene so has always felt a sort of belonging with the community.
She said: “I would always go to the underground bars and the underground clubs and that is where I fell in love with dance music and make-up melting off my face.
“I had not got a clue what was going to happen in my career.
“I fell in love with dance music by being accepted in the gay raves in the clubs in the underground scene.
“Growing up I felt the acceptance, through music, of being in the community.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Ask and You Shall Receive’ songstress last hit the road in 2021 with the ‘Phoenix World Tour’ but insisted that while she doesn’t have “exact details” just yet, she will be giving some live performances at some point in support of her latest album ‘You and I’.
She said: “I don’t know exact details yet, but you’ll definitely get some live shows out of me.

Lana Del Rey gets apology after Reading set is cut short

OHMYGOSSIP — Bosses of the Reading and Leeds festival have apologised to Lana Del Rey after her headline set was cut short due to an “error”.
The singer was coming towards the end of her performance at the Reading leg of the two-site music event on her Saturday night (24.08.24) when her microphone was cut off early – leaving Lana unable to continue closing the show as her fireworks display went off.
They explained in a statement posted on Instagram: “Due to an error by the Reading production team we accidentally cut Lana Del Rey’s incredible set short by 5 mins. We apologise unreservedly to Lana and her fans.”
Lana reportedly had to sit and watch the pyrotechnics along with the audience as she couldn’t finish off her set.
It comes a year after the singer’s set at Glastonbury festival was cut off after she was half an hour late taking to the stage and over-ran her curfew.
Lana’s microphone was unplugged and she was unable to finish performing her track ‘White Mustang’ because festival bosses have to wrap up all the acts by midnight.
The singer explained to fans she was running late because she was getting her hair done – and her hairdresser even appeared on stage with her to help finish off her look.
After performing ‘Cherry’, Lana said: “Thank you so much, I’m so happy to be here. “I was so f****** late and I am about to rush this set. If they cut power, they cut power, I’m super f****** sorry.
“My hair takes so long to do. Let’s keep on running the set as it’s supposed to go.”
She also over-ran during a set at the Coachella festival in California in April leaving organisers facing a hefty $28,000 (£22,524) fine.
