Green Day concert interrupted by ‘unauthorised drone’

OHMYGOSSIP — Green Day had to pause their Detroit concert after a drone reportedly appeared.
The pop punk veterans were playing the Comerica Park stadium as part of ‘The Saviors Tour’ on Wednesday (04.09.24) when they were forced to stop performing ‘Longview’ due to the “potential safety issue”, which Billboard claims was unauthorised drone use.
However, they did resume the song and finished the show.
Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said after performing ‘Welcome to Paradise’: “Ain’t no mother****** that’s gonna stop us, I’ll tell you that.”
Addressing the interruption, Green Day later posted to X: “Detroit! Sorry for the delay in the show tonight, Stadium security had us clear the stage while they dealt with a potential safety issue. DPD quickly resolved the situation, and we were able to continue. Thanks for understanding.”
The latest concert delay comes weeks after their concert at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Missouri was impacted by a “big lightning storm”.
The trio had to rush through ‘Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)’ to get off the stage and advised fans to flee to safety.
He said: “Ok you guys, that’s it.
“We gotta get you out of here, because there’s a big lightning storm that’s coming right now. Thank you so much!”

Indie band English Teacher win the Mercury Prize

OHMYGOSSIP — English Teacher have won the Mercury Prize.
The indie band received the coveted accolade on Thursday (05.09.24) at Abbey Road Studios in London for their debut album, ‘This Could Be Texas’.
The judging team said: “This has been a really tough year for the Mercury Prize judges, with the final 12 albums being so reflective of our diverse and rich musical landscape. There was so much passion and enthusiasm for each one.
“In the end, though, we did agree that ‘This Could Be Texas’ by English Teacher stands out for its originality and character.
“A winning lyrical mix of surrealism and social observation, alongside a subtle way of wearing its musical innovations lightly, displays a fresh approach to the traditional guitar band format. ‘This Could Be Texas’ reveals new depths on every listen; the mark of a future classic.
“The Mercury Prize was set up to celebrate the album as an artistic format in its own right and all the judges agreed that this charismatic body of work deserves to be the 2024 Mercury Prize Album of the Year.”
The quartet have become the first group from outside of London to win the prize since 2014, when Young Fathers claimed the coveted accolade.
Lily Fontaine, the group’s lead singer, also pointed to the support the band have received from local venues.
She said: “If you look back over music from this country, Yorkshire in particular has thrown out some of our most prolific songwriters.
“There’s real support for musicians in Leeds at the moment.
“Venues are willing to take on new artists and I think that’s integral to the health of the scene.”
The Mercury Prize comes with a cash reward of £25,000 and recognises the best album by a British and Irish act over a 12-month period.
In 2023, the Mercury Prize was won by Ezra Collective, with their album ‘Where I’m Meant To Be’.

Raven Numan reveals the inspiration behind Overwhelming

OHMYGOSSIP — Raven Numan’s ‘Overwhelming’ explores her experience of “growing up with a famous parent”.
The 20-year-old singer is the daughter of music star Gary Numan and Raven has explained how he’s inspired her new single.
The singer – who is the sole writer of the track – shared: “‘Overwhelming’ is somewhat self-explanatory. It’s about being overwhelmed with everyone and everything, it’s also about growing up with a famous parent and how it’s affected me personally.
“My parents are incredible, they’ve done absolutely everything and more for me and I love them endlessly – but a big part of their job is going on tour for long periods of time and that has quite obviously affected me negatively.”
Raven believes that her dad’s fame and success has led her to “develop borderline personality disorder”.
The singer – who has just released a music video for ‘Overwhelming’ – said: “The song is partially about that; how my parents going on tour as a child caused me to develop quite a lot of issues.
“It caused me to develop borderline personality disorder, which involves the constant fear of being abandoned, severe mood swings, anxiety and it has also caused extreme social anxiety.”
Raven has admitted that she really struggled to cope with the situation during her younger years.
She explained: “The loudness of this lifestyle, the shows, my dad’s fame, the unpredictability, the fans, the unnecessary hate all because I was born caused so much stress and it was a lot for me to handle.
“It’s about totally shutting down and disassociating because everything was very overwhelming.”

All Time Low wouldn’t exist without Blink-182

OHMYGOSSIP — All Time Low “wouldn’t be a band” without Blink-182.
The Alex Gaskarth-fronted pop punk group owe a great deal to the genre’s veterans, especially co-frontman and bassist Mark Hoppus, who has been a huge support over the years.
Reflecting on their 20 years as a band, Alex told GRAMMY.com: “I don’t think we’d be a band without Blink-182. Over the years, as we got a little more recognition, Mark reached out and asked to write together for All Time Low. It was either for [2009’s] Nothing Personal or [2011’s] Dirty Work. We worked on a song that didn’t make a record, but it was the start of that friendship.
“Mark’s super funny and sarcastic; Blink-182 are funny guys. So I would always try to be funny, but then I’d cringe at my own attempt to be funny, and he’d just roll his eyes. I have to give him so much love, because he saw whatever it is that people see in us, and took a shot on us. And even though the songs didn’t come out, he continued to be a supporter in the wing.”
The pair also formed their own duo, Simple Creatures, in 2019, and although they have been quite since, Mark is still close with Alex.
He added: “Mark’s a really good friend of mine now, and we’ve gone through a lot together. I don’t know that I really think about it, but if I zoom all the way out and think about our career and the way things have gone, yeah, I absolutely pinch myself. It is a dream come true for who I was when I started doing music, but now I just feel lucky to know the guy, because he’s a really good dude. Sometimes you can meet your heroes.”

Nick Cave’s music wish for fans

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Cave wants to share the “extreme beauty” of the world with his fans through music.
The 66-year-old musician – who suffered the loss of two of his children, Arthur, 15, and Jethro, 31, within the space of seven years – recently released his latest record ‘Wild God’ and hopes that his concerts will help fans to move “in the direction of God”.
He told Variety: “If anything, it’s an attempt to turn people away from an embittered, cynical view of the world. moving in the direction of God, let’s say, rather than in the other direction. It’s somehow, I guess, promoting an idea that that we are of some value as human beings, that the world has some implicit meaning, and that the world is not s*** — it’s beautiful! This has become a deeply controversial position on some level: A lot of people that write in are like, ‘No, you’ve got this wrong. This world is not that way at all, and I’ve arrived personally at this position through being damaged,’ or through a catastrophe or devastation of some kind.
“But I think the cynical view of the world is a sort of luxury that you can afford to have prior to the devastation. And the devastation either breaks you — or it turns you around to look at the world as something of extreme beauty.”
Nick believes that music “isn’t just entertainment” and he loves getting the chance to communicate with his fans
He explained: “I guess the band and I move closer to that [revival] sort of thing all the time. We’ve been making complex records about complex things, but when we get onstage, it does feel like we’re in direct communication — direct communion, I would say — with the audience. It sort of washes away some of that complexity and turns it into much more of a kind of pure emotional uplift.
“I feel that music isn’t just entertainment. It’s possibly the last authentic opportunity for transcendent experience we have left to us in the secular world. I think that music is a moral force for good — that’s embedded within the nature of music itself: It can make things better, so I take that really seriously.”

Desert Daze music festival axed

OHMYGOSSIP — The Desert Daze music festival has been cancelled.
The four-day event – which was scheduled to take place in Lake Perris, California between October 10 and 13 – has been axed over increased production costs.
Desert Daze was due to feature Jack White, Fleet Foxes, the Mars Volta, Cigarettes After Sex, Liz Phair and Thundercat, among others.
A spokesperson for Desert Daze said in a statement: “As an independent festival, an increasing rarity in today’s festival market, Desert Daze is run by a small team of people who love live music and this community. Unfortunately, due to rising production costs and the current volatile festival market, it is no longer possible to execute the weekend as planned.”
Desert Daze co-founder Phil Pirrone said: “Desert Daze is more than a festival or business venture to us. The community that we’ve cultivated together means so much to us and is the reason we will work to find a way to keep this beautiful thing going for many years to come.
“With each year, we do our best to serve the Desert Daze community… We are always learning and working diligently to improve the experience, and we tried everything to find a way forward this year. While we hit pause for now, we will be working in the background to deliver another special experience for all of us to share in the future. We thank you for your support.”
All ticket holders will be refunded, and will be contacted directly via their point of purchase.
The cancellation of the festival comes after the 2023 event was postponed to 2024.
A statement at the time said: “After careful thought and consideration, Desert Daze have decided to take a year off from the event at Lake Perris and return in 2024, using the extra time to ensure an experience that surpasses expectations for many years to come.”

Oasis considering adding more dates to comeback tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Oasis are said to be considering adding more dates to their comeback tour after so many fans were left ticketless.
The Britpop legends’ fans scrambled to get tickets to the ‘Oasis Live ’25’ tour over the weekend, with masses left waiting in lengthy queues before being told all dates were sold-out on Saturday evening (31.08.24).
However, there is some hope that they may extend the jaunt to make more fans happy.
One source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Millions of Oasis fans will be feeling incredibly disappointed today.
“Noel and Liam [Gallagher] are weighing up whether they can feasibly do more dates
“Next year’s reunion tour is for their fans and they want to make them happy.”
What’s more, another insider has claimed there is even the potential for new Oasis music – if Noel can persuade his sibling to add his vocals to some new tunes he’s been working on.
The source said: “Noel knows the reunion is about the hits but he doesn’t want them to be purely a nostalgia act.
“He has the tunes ready to go and if things continue to work well with Liam then it could be absolutely amazing.”
The brothers surprised fans with news of their return after 15 years of feuding and being estranged ever since a backstage brawl between the pair at their final concert in Paris in 2009.
Meanwhile, Noel and Liam could be set to rake in even more millions – as they are said to have been offered big bucks to make a film out of their reunion.
The siblings will be back onstage together for the first time at the Cardiff Principality Stadium on July 4, and it’s said the likes of Apple, Netflix and Prime Video are in a fierce bidding war to try and get the frontman and guitarist to allow cameras to document their hotly anticipated return.
A source told Bizarre earlier this week: “Noel and Liam’s teams have been inundated with offers from production companies, who are desperate to secure the rights to a documentary.
“A dedicated team over at Apple have met to discuss the bid they are putting forward, and companies who work with Netflix and Prime Video are doing the same.
“The Oasis reunion is the biggest music story of recent times and to have access to Noel and Liam would be a huge coup.
“To see the brothers coming together again and putting their bitter split behind them would make for sensational viewing.
“The offers being tabled run into their millions.”

Kirk Hammett used to get ‘frustrated’ with writer’s block

OHMYGOSSIP — Kirk Hammett used to get so “frustrated” with writer’s block, he would want to “smash his guitar” to pieces.
The Metallica axe-slayer no longer gets “stuck” because he has learned to just “grab what you can in the moment” and not focus on the past or future, but that wasn’t always the case.
Asked how he deals with writer’s block, he told Total Guitar magazine: “Don’t think about the past or what has been done. Don’t think about the future and what you need to do. Just see what you can grab in the moment. That’s how I write music, and it has turned me into a more prolific composer because I don’t get stuck like I used to. I used to get writing blocks for months and months and months, and not write a riff for months, and get frustrated about it, and think about smashing my guitar. That doesn’t happen anymore.”
Kirk also insisted he doesn’t get bothered by criticism, because if they “sucked” that bad, they wouldn’t be selling out stadiums.
He said: “My attitude is that if you’re out there and you’re touring, and you’re making albums, and you’re recording, there is no way you suck. And so I can’t stop being bewildered by all these people who say, ‘This guy sucks! That guy sucks!’ Hey, I’ve got news for you – you don’t get to where you’re at if you f****** suck! Okay? These people are talking on 10 per cent of what they see in all of these people musically. It’s incredible. I don’t think anyone really sucks. These days, I don’t think bad guitar solos even exist anymore because everyone is just so much better than they used to be. Like, in the ’60s there were bad guitar solos. You would find them in pop songs, where you’d go, ‘Urgh! Nice try. Next!’ But that’s the past, and that’s a good thing.”

“When I saw the performance, I was just proud to have them do that. What a huge, huge honour, what a huge performance.

It comes after Crahan recently revealed he’s ready for a change and would like to start performing smaller gigs in the future. He told NME: “We’re going back to basics. I’m ready to kick everybody in the face again! I’m ready to do a 100-person venue again! I’m ready to do a 500-person venue.
“We want to play in front of 500 people, but there are a lot of factors that will mean it can’t happen. We’re at the point where we’ve got to ensure safety.”

Oasis look set to battle Sabrina Carpenter as their old hits jump to Top 5 of UK Singles Chart

OHMYGOSSIP — Oasis could be set for a chart battle with pop star Sabrina Carpenter.
Following the announcement of their 2025 stadium reunion tour last week, the Britpop legends’ tunes have been making big moves in the Official UK Singles Chart, with ‘Live Forever’, which peaked at number 10 in 1994, heading towards number four, according to the Official Charts Company.
What’s more, ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ are on course to head back into the Top 10.
Sabrina secured the No.1 spot last Friday (30.08.24) with her latest hit ‘Taste’ from her LP ‘Short N’ Sweet’, whilst ‘Please Please Please’ and ‘Espresso’ occupy the next two positions.
As for Oasis’ albums, the compilation LP ‘Time Flies 1994-2009’ is number three, 1995’s ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ is one position behind and the recently released 30th anniversary re-issue of their seminal debut studio album ‘Definitely Maybe’ has made the Top 5.
Fans scrambled to get tickets to the ‘Oasis Live ’25’ tour over the weekend, with masses left waiting in lengthy queues before being told all dates were sold-out on Saturday evening (31.08.24).
Rogue resale sites have listed tickets for thousands of pounds whilst Ticketmaster has come under fire for using “dynamic pricing”, which saw standard ticket prices rise substantially.
As a result, the UK’s Culture Secretary has vowed to probe the issue as part of the Government’s review of secondary ticket sales.
Labour’s Lisa Nandy said in a statement issued on Sunday (01.09.24): “After the incredible news of Oasis’ return, it’s depressing to see vastly inflated prices excluding ordinary fans from having a chance of enjoying their favourite band live.
“This Government is committed to putting fans back at the heart of music. So we will include issues around the transparency and use of dynamic pricing, including the technology around queuing systems which incentivise it, in our forthcoming consultation on consumer protections for ticket resales.
“Working with artists, industry and fans we can create a fairer system that ends the scourge of touts, rip-off resales and ensures tickets at fair prices.”
Standard tickets jumped from £148 to £355.

Big Sean reveals unlikely friendship with James Gunn

OHMYGOSSIP — Big Sean struck up an unlikely friendship with superhero filmmaker James Gunn.
The 36-year-old rapper has recalled discovering that the 58-year-old ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ director – who is now co-chairman of Marvel’s rival DC Studios – was his neighbour and hitting it off big time.
Talking about Dwanye ‘The Rock’ Johnson, 52, appearing on his latest album ‘Better Me Than You’, he told Complex: “I’ve been blessed enough to have these friends. Another friend of mine that’s a random one probably is [director] James Gunn. He ended up being my neighbour for a while, and I don’t want to say what event occurred, but an event occurred where the whole neighbourhood was outside, and he’s like, ‘Big Sean?’ I’m like, ‘James Gunn, what the f***?’ We started connecting, and I’m an ultra-comic nerd. And I was talking to him like, ‘Man, I just saw Guardians of the Galaxy, but I love how you changed it up from the comic book.’ He was like, ‘Damn, come over and smoke a cigar with me and talk.’ We ended up just kickin’ it, and he’s like, ‘Man, come on set with me while I’m doing Superman.’ Of course, I’ve been busy and haven’t made it, but we’ve been in contact. That’s my boy, though—not even playing like James Gunn is my dog.”
The Rock’s actual voicemail appears on the track ‘Break The Cycle’ featuring Charlie Wilson.
Sean added: “The Rock is another person who I just would connect with, and I actually saw him at Hotel Bel-Air. That’s how we met. It was one day I was doing something there and saw him there, and we just ended up connecting. And when the energy is right, it just turns into a friendship. So that voicemail wasn’t for my album. That was an actual voicemail, and then when I put it on a song, I was like, ‘Yo, it kind of fits it,’ and he was like, ‘It is perfect, bro.’ I wasn’t trying to be thirsty, but he had just left me that as I was doing the song, so it almost felt like it was meant to be.”

Melanie Blatt reveals fear of falling on stage puts her off All Saints reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Melanie Blatt has dashed hopes of an All Saints reunion – as she fears stepping on stage again.
The 49-year-old singer has a condition called Scoliosis – which essentially refers to a curvature of the spine or back bone – and had three metal rods inserted into her back, and she admits her body is “wonky” as a result, and the thought of performing and having a fall fills her with anxiety.
She told the Daily Star: “I’ll never say never, but right now we’re all doing our own thing. When we came back in 2014, we did two new albums.
“We were on top pretty much for eight years, so, you know, we’ve done it all. Shaz [Shaznay Lewis] is also releasing solo stuff, and it’s just amazing. So I’m here to support her at the moment, that’s my main focus.
“Also, I almost never want to go back on stage because I haven’t fallen, and I haven’t had a wardrobe malfunction. I’m scared if ever I go back, it’s bound to happen at some point.”
She said: “I’m a very wonky person. I have just come back from visiting my daughter, and I was staying at her husband’s aunt’s house.
“Unfortunately, the bathroom was covered in huge mirrors. I’ve never spent so much time looking at my back and my bum and the back of me, and it wasn’t nice.
“So, I’d never noticed how wonky I actually am. Like one shoulder was up, one hip up, like even, like my bum cheeks, they’re not the same, I’m very wonky everywhere.”
On learning to accept her body, Melanie concluded: “I’ve learned when you live with something like that, usually it just becomes the norm. So you don’t really see it as anything extra. I was really lucky, my mum found an amazing doctor, and it didn’t hinder me in any way.”
In June, Shaznay, 48, ruled out a reunion with the ‘Never Ever’ group – which also featured sisters Natalie and Nicole Appleton, 51, and 49, respectively.
The girls enjoyed plenty of chart success throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.
However, they haven’t released any new music since the 2018 album ‘Testament’, and Shaznay reaffirmed she doesn’t see All Saints in her future after realising “there were so many other things [she’d] like to do.”
Speaking to the Metro’s 60 Seconds column, she said: “When you’re in a group, it’s such a specific thing, whether that’s a boy band, girl band, even a rock band.
“I got to the point where I realised that, as a writer, there were so many other things I’d like to do – scores for films or TV series. To be creative in many different spaces.
“I want to be daring enough to put those desires into practise, so that’s what I’m doing now. I’m writing for film, which is a new experience.”

Although she has not performed with the group since a string of festive shows in December 2021, the singer insisted the band was “still as tight as ever”.

Robbie Williams gives promising update on new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams has given an update on his new album.
The ‘Let Me Entertain You’ hitmaker has confirmed plans for his next record – which will be his 13th and first since 2019’s ‘The Christmas Present’ – are still going ahead, but he and his team were “waiting” to find out the release for his ‘Better Man’ biopic before dropping the LP.
Speaking at a screening of his new movie in the US, he told fans: “I’ve got an album coming too, we have been waiting to know when exactly the film is coming out before we put it out.”
The 50-year-old star teased other ventures also in the pipeline once the film gets released in December.
He added: “I am building hotels, I want to build a university, I have got my own clothing line coming out, I have got drinks.
“I am going to be busier than I have ever been.”
Earlier this year, the ‘Angels’ singer revealed he has “written loads of songs” and is feeling more “ambitious” than ever.
He told Virgin Radio: “I’ve got loads of plans. I’ve written loads of songs, I’ve got my film [Better Man] at the end of this year and I’m doing Hyde Park in the summer.
“I have never been busier, I’ve never been as ambitious as I am right now. I am full of purpose and I am loving life.”
Since the release of ‘The Christmas Present’, Robbie dropped his dance side project Lufthaus record ‘Visions, Vol. 1’ last year, as well as his greatest hits collection XXV in 2022.
He has praised The 1975 frontman matty Healy for his willingness to push boundaries in music.
He wrote on Instagram: “I really like Matt [because] he’s unhinged, super smart, super talented and willing to upset. Upsetting for a cause. The cause being a complicated inner life a rebellious streak and boredom.
“I’ve gotta get some of that energy back in my musical life. Like I say ‘so many people to offend’ I hope I have time to fit them all in. It’s time to take the p*** again… and im looking forward to it. (sic)”

Adele broke two records with her Munich residency

OHMYGOSSIP — Adele broke a pair of records with her Munich residency.
The ‘Hello’ hitmaker just completed a 10-date stint at her custom-built arena in Messe in Riem, and she smashed the record for the most people at a residency outside of Las Vegas; having sold a whopping 730,000 tickets.
The Guinness World Records also confirmed that the 36-year-old Grammy winner had “the largest continuous outdoor LED screen” at her open-air shows.
Joanne Brent, the official adjudicator for the Guinness World Records, said: “It is an immense honour to present the iconic Adele with this GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title.
“While Adele is no stranger to holding multiple records for her music, this achievement stands apart, celebrating her remarkable vision for the ‘Adele in Munich’ residency.
“The bespoke visual effects, tailored to each song, truly elevated the performance adding an undeniable ‘wow’ factor. It was a perfect complement to the unparalleled artistry of Adele. She is OFFICIALLY AMAZING.”
Not only did fans get to see the ‘Chasing Pavements’ singer’s epic set, but they were able to experience ‘Adele World’, which boasted the ‘I Drink Wine’ bar, rides, a British pub and much more.
Adele is now preparing to take an “incredibly long” break after she concludes her Las Vegas residency.
The ‘Easy On Me’ hitmaker has 10 dates to complete of her ‘Weekends with Adele’ series at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, and once she exits the stage on November 23, she will be embarking on a lengthy hiatus.
In a TikTok clip, she told the crowd at her final date of her Germany residency in Munich last Saturday (31.08.24): “I have 10 shows to do, but after that I will not see you for an incredibly long time.
“And I will hold you dear in my heart.”
The superstar has said she is planning to take things easy and spend quality time with her sports agent partner Rich Paul, 43, and her 11-year-old son Angelo – whom she has with ex-spouse Simon Konecki.
She told German outlet ZDF: “I don’t have any plans for new music, at all.
“I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a little while.”
