OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift was the big winner at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2022.
The 32-year-old pop star took home a total of four awards from the annual awards ceremony including Best Artist, Best Pop, as well as both Best Video and Best Longform Video for ‘All Too Well (10 Minute Version’.)
Taylor’s fellow superstar Nicki Minaj was awarded Best Song for her hit Super Freaky Girl and Best Hip Hop while former One Direction singer Harry Styles won Best Live.
Elsewhere, ‘Anywhere’ hitmaker Rita Ora – who also took on hosting duties with husband Taika Waititi – won Best Look ‘Personal Style while Video for Good went to Sam Smith feat. Kim Petras for their collaborative effort ‘Unholy.’
Meanwhile, Best Collaboration was given to David Guetta and Bebe Rexha for ‘I’m Good (Blue)’, while ‘Hey Mamma’ hitmaker David also received Best Electronicwhilst brand new award Best Metaverse Performance went to the BLACKPINK The Virtual PUBG Mobile, in recognition of the K-Pop girl group’s in-game concert.
The glitzy awards night – which was held at the PSD Bank Dome in Düsseldorf, Germany – was opened by David Guetta and Bebe Rexha with a rendition of their award-winning hit, whilst rock band Muse later took to the stage for a performance of ‘Will of the People’ complete with fires and flares.
‘Sweet but Psycho’ songstress Ava Max treated fans to a performance of ‘Million Dollar Baby’ from top giant diamond and rap superstar Stormzy gave the very first television performance of his new song ‘Fire Babe’.
In showing support for Ukraine – which has been subject to an ongoing invasion by Russia since February – Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra arrived to give a performance of ‘Stefania’, with the arena lights being switched to blue and yellow, while three women from the wartorn country received the MTV EMA Generation Change Award

OHMYGOSSIP — Joni Mitchell is hoping to release a live album showcasing her set from the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island.
The veteran musician took to the stage at the event back in July to perform her first gig in more than 20 years and she’s now hoping to share the concert with more of her fans by compiling it into a live album which would feature classic tracks including ‘Big Yellow Taxi’, ‘A Case of You’ and ‘Both Sides Now’.
The 78-year-old singer revealed the news during an interview with Sir Elton John on his ‘ Rocket Hour’ podcast for Apple Music, with Elton asking Joni: “People out there, you haven’t heard things from the Newport Folk Festival yet, but I think there’s going to be an album coming out of that one?”
Joni then responded: “Yeah, we’re trying to put that out.”
The singer’s return to the stage marked her first full performance since she suffered a brain aneurysm in 2015 which left her unable to talk or walk for some time.
After Joni made her comeback at the festival in July, she revealed it was the first time she felt nervous about performing. Speaking to CBS News after the show, she said: “I’ve never been nervous about being in front of an audience, but I wanted to be good and I wasn’t sure that I could be. But I didn’t sound too bad tonight. “I think having a brush with death like that kind of softens people to me.” Joni retaught herself how to play guitar by watching online tutorials. She said: “I’m learning. I’m looking at videos that are on the net to see where I put my fingers. It’s amazing what an aneurysm knocks out– how to get out of a chair, you don’t know how to get out of a bed. … Going back to infancy, almost. You have to relearn everything. ”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Neighbourhood have fired drummer Brandon Fried following a groping allegation.
María Zardoya, the lead vocalist of the US indie pop group The Marias, claimed she was felt up under the table by the sticksman, who she branded a “complete creep”, and the California rock band has since announced Fried has been dropped.
Zardoya wrote on her Instagram Story over the weekend: “I was at a bar last night, and i was groped under the table by brandon fried, the drummer of the neighbourhood. it was one of the most uncomfortable things i’ve ever experienced. i felt an invasion of my space, privacy and body.
“@thenbhd ya’ll need a new drummer, this guy is a complete creep (sic)”
In response, the ‘Sweater Weather’ hitmakers posted on the band’s Story: “We are grateful to Maria for coming forward. We have zero tolerance for any kind of inappropriate behavior towards women.
“As a result of Brandon’s actions, he will no longer be a member of The Neighbourhood.”
Fried has since issued an apology and blamed his “inexcusable and intolerable” actions on alcohol and substance abuse, which he claims to be getting help with.
He wrote: “I am so terribly sorry to Maria. My actions were inexcusable and intolerable.
“They are not reflective of who I am as a person, but clearly a reflection of who I become while under the influence. (sic)”
The musician also apologised to fans of The Neighbourhood.
He added: “It is evident that I must address my problems with alcohol and substance abuse, which I am now seeking help for.
“I want to apologize to women who have been victims of any behavior that has left them feeling uncomfortable or violated. I am so sorry to The Neighbourhood and our fans for letting them down. (sic)”
Meanwhile, the band has recently been in the headlines as pop megastar Billie Eilish, 20, is dating frontman Jesse Rutherford, 31.

OHMYGOSSIP — Blur are reuniting for their first headline show since 2015 at London’s Wembley Stadium next year.
The Britpop legends haven’t toured together since their run in support of their comeback LP ‘The Magic Whip’, seven years ago, though Damon Albarn reunited with Dave Rowntree, Graham Coxon and Alex James at his Africa Express show in his hometown of Leytonstone in 2019.
However, the ‘Song 2’ rockers will be back together again on July 8 for their only UK appearance.
Rapper slowthai, Mercury Prize nominee Self Esteem and alt-pop duo Jockstrap will support the band.
Frontman Damon, 54, said: “We really love playing these songs and thought it’s about time we did it again.”
Guitarist Graham, 53, said: “I’m really looking forward to playing with my blur brothers again and revisiting all those great songs… blur live shows are always amazing for me. A nice guitar and an amp turned right up and loads of smiling faces…”
Bassist Alex, also 53, commented: “There’s always something really special when the four of us get in a room. It’s nice to think that on 8th July that room will be Wembley Stadium.”
Drummer Dave, 58, added: “After the chaos of the last few years, it’s great to get back out to play some songs together on a summer’s day in London. Hope to see you there.”
Each band member had hinted at a reunion when the time was right.
In August, Graham said: “That’s always been the thing with Blur – they’ll do it when they really need to and not for any other reason. It doesn’t really seem genuine to just get back together and just do gigs for a bit of spondage. We need to have some sort of focus for how we would work.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Stormzy turned into the biggest fanboy after he set out on a mission to get a selfie with Taylor Swift.
The pair both attended the MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) in Dusseldorf, Germany on Sunday (13.11.22) – where the US pop megastar dominated the evening, earning four gongs – and the Grime star was successful in his pursuit of grabbing a snap with the ‘Karma’ hitmaker backstage at the bash.
He posted on his Instagram Story: “Man’s trying to get a selfie with Taylor Swift! Man’s running around.”
The ‘Vossi Bop’ hitmaker then captioned a selfie tagging the singer: “@taylorswift can I have a selfie please.”
He then updated fans: “Mans going to meet Taylor. (sic)”
And sure enough, he posed with the ‘Shake It Off’ hitmaker before adding a final picture of himself with a massive smile beaming across his face.
Pleased with himself, he gushed “So happy.”
The 29-year-old rapper has made a habit out of fanboying over his idols backstage at awards ceremonies.
In 2020, Stormzy interrupted Billie Eilish’s backstage interview at the BRITs to do just that.
He was seen in a video declaring how much he loves the ‘Bad Guy’ hitmaker’s music, and after hailing her “the f****** greatest”, he then proceeded to break out into his own version of her song ‘everything i wanted’.
He told Billie: “You are the f****** greatest, you’re so … she’s so f****** … it’s dumb! And every time I listen to the new song of yours I go on A to Z lyrics and I read it.
“And I’m just like bruv, she’s brilliant pen.”
He then belted out her recent single as she danced along, and the singer responded: “I’m gonna cry.”
The ‘Crown’ rapper then apologised for crashing the interview.
He replied: “You’re too hard! You’re so hard it don’t even matter!
“You’re too hard, she’s too hard. Sorry, sorry to crash that [interview].”
A stunned Billie could then be heard saying: “What the hell? What the hell?”
And it wasn’t just the ‘No Time To Die’ singer’s interview Stormzy interrupted.
He also Lewis Capaldi in the winners’ room.
Asked by a reporter what he enjoyed from the show at The O2 in London, Stormzy pointed to the ‘Grace’ singer and said: “That man over there, Lewis Capaldi.
“I love that man, Incredible.
“That [‘Someone You Loved’] is my favourite song of the year.”
He was then asked what he likes about the song, before starting to sing the chorus and calling Lewis over to duet together.

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen wants to “inspire” people.
The ‘Born in the USA’ hitmaker got the bug to make “great music” when he was a kid and found his output more important than making money or being a heartthrob.
The 73-year-old music legend said on his podcast ‘Questlove Supreme’ on Thursday (10.11.22): “It started when I was a young kid. More than being rich or more than being good looking. I wanted to make great music.
“I wanted to inspire people the way I felt inspired. And that’s my life’s work. I want to inspire you with my music the way people touched my heart and soul with their music.”
Bruce – whose career has spanned more than five decades – loves the process of “being in the studio” and messing around.
He said: “I knew I was done writing for a while. I made a record with the E Street Band called ‘Letter To You’ and it felt like I don’t have anything I want to write about at the moment.
“Also I like the acting of recording and being in the studio, making sounds, so maybe I’ll record something that I haven’t written.
“Some way or another I ended up singing Frank Wilson’s ‘Do I Love You?’. That was a hit in the Northern Soul scene in England where they dig up unusual Motown and soul records. We cut that up and it felt like I touched on something, it felt focused, fresh and focused on my voice.
The ‘Dancing in the Dark’ hitmaker lamented about the changes to the industry like the spaces to perfect your “craft”.
Bruce said: “What shocks me is that sort of venue no longer exists. These were the places where you played five hours a night, live sets in a row. We learned our craft piece. We learned our craft piece by piece, song by song.
“That’s different today – you have a kid in his bedroom, two months later he has the biggest hit in the United States on the radio, never played a gig in his life.”
Bruce – who will be headlining BST Hyde Park next summer – revealed he loves to make the show fresh as it could “impact someone’s life”.
“On the last tour we played 200 different songs. Once the tour gets rolling the show is regularly different on a night-to-night basis.
“We don’t just play three-and-a-half hours a night – we are there in the afternoon. I have done two-hour soundchecks just to learn something new.
“It’s just because it’s fun, and it remains an honour to play for our audience. And that’s what I insist on the band on a nightly basis.
“Your name is on the line. I don’t care how long you’ve been doing it – you have the opportunity to impact somebody’s life tonight.
“It’s somebody’s first time every night and I want to play like it’s my first night.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicki Minaj has revealed her fifth album is coming “soon”.
The 39-year-old rapper is staying coy on any firm details about the upcoming record – the follow-up to 2018’s ‘Queen’ – but she confirmed a vague timeline for its highly anticipated release.
Asked what projects she has on the horizon, she told i-D Magazine: “The fifth album. I’m not gonna say when it’s gonna come out, but the album will be out soon.”
Nicki revealed she is “in a really great place”, and noted being in that position always leads to her creating “the best music”.
She added: “I’m in a really great place now. I feel like whenever I’m happy, I deliver the best music.
“And in order for me to deliver the best music for my album – which is coming out soon – I have to tap back into the essence of hip-hop.”
The multi-talented star also revealed she is still keen to keep on with her acting career, and she will never step away from that side of her life “for too long”.
She said: “Definitely. I’ve been speaking to a director about doing something in a movie. In terms of TV, we’ll see. But I love acting, and I’ll never abandon acting for too long. That’s one of my biggest passions.”
Meanwhile, Nicki previously admitted the success of her latest single ‘Super Freaky Girl’ has encouraged her to bring out her next collection sooner than she anticipated.
She explained: “I wasn’t sure how I was even feeling about having to put out an album this year.
“But [‘Super Freaky Girl’] happening and people liking it, that made me happy.
“People have gone through so much recently that they want to have fun. It’ll probably expedite the album to come out this year.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Luke Combs was the big winner at this year’s CMA Awards.
The 32-year-old singer scooped the coveted Entertainer of the Year prize and the Album of the Year accolade for ‘Growin’ Up’ at the ceremony at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday (09.11.22).
Upon accepting the Entertainer of the Year prize, Luke – who attended the event with his wife Nicole Combs – said: “I want to thank country music for making my dreams come true, my beautiful, beautiful wife Nicole, our beautiful four-and-a-half-month-old son Tex at home right now. This is a dream come true.”
Luke beat off competition from Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood, and Morgan Wallen in the Entertainer of the Year category.
He said: “There is nobody in this category that doesn’t deserve to be standing up here.
“And I am just so thankful to my team. Everybody that’s been a part of this journey, everybody in this room, I owe so much to you.
“I love you so much. I just cannot believe this. Thank you for country music, and let me tell you one more thing about tonight. This is my fifth or sixth time at this award show, and country sounded more country than it has in a long time tonight.”
Lainey Wilson also tasted success on the night, winning New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year, in which she overcame Miranda, Carrie, Ashley McBryde and Carly Pearce.
Cody Johnson also scooped two prizes at the spectacle, winning both Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year for his tune ‘Til You Can’t’.
Other winners included Chris Stapleton landing the Male Vocalist of the Year award, while Brothers Osborne won Vocal Duo of the Year, and Old Dominion were awarded the Vocal Group of the Year prize.
This year’s Country Music Association Awards (CMAs) were hosted by country singer Luke Bryan and former NFL star Peyton Manning.

OHMYGOSSIP — Stormzy has announced his only UK performance of 2023 at Victoria Park.
The grime star will headline a stacked one day festival lineup in collaboration London’s All Points East on August 18, and he will curate the warm up bill himself to celebrate the release of ‘This Is What I Mean’, which drops on November 25.
In a video shared on Twitter, he said: “I was thinking what’s next, cos we’ve done three O2s, shut that down. I said to the team, we gotta do something bigger, something better, something different.
“We were having back to back meetings, bouncing ideas. Then it hit me, I started jotting down ideas thinking – live band, need a live band.
“August 2023, a summer time thing, outside, for the people, always for my people. So August 2023, Victoria Park, more info coming soon… This Is What We Mean Day. Hard.”
The ‘Vossi Bop’ hitmaker recently revealed he is extremely “proud” of his new record.
He said: “I’ve never been this excited for new music. I’ve never felt so proud and confident in the art I’ve made. And the beautiful thing about it is that it’s … all my confidence and all my pride comes from the art.
“It doesn’t come from who people may think I am or what I’ve achieved – it’s none of that. It’s just a, ‘Yo, we’ve made something really beautiful, really special’. Something that people will feel, you know what I mean?”
He has since admitted he has “made peace with the idea” that not all of his fans will like the new collection.
He explained: “This idea of being in the studio, thinking you have to make a certain kind of song… it’s the least creative place you can be,” he said. “And really, the audience doesn’t even know what they like – and I know that because I’m the same when I’m listening to music.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kid Cudi has called out “toxic” fans after a row over an earlier version of his song ‘love.’
The 38-year-old rapper has pulled a 2015 version of the track from SoundCloud after a fan shared a screenshot of that upload and thanked him for “making this masterpiece”.
Cudi replied on Twitter asking if the fan was aware he’d dropped an official release, with a remastered version appearing earlier this year as a bonus track on greatest hits compilation ‘The Boy Who Flew to the Moon, Vol. 1’.
The fan claimed the “OG version of SoundCloud hits different”, and the star said he was “taking it off” the platform.
Other supporters criticised the move, and Cudi has fired back to defend his decision.
He tweeted: “Anybody switchin up and talkin shit about me taking off my song on soundcloud thanx for showin who u truly are.
“Its one of the reason i dont want to do music anymore. (Some) fans can be toxic and not cool sometimes.
“And this app really be showin some of yall true colors. (sic)”
The ‘Day ‘n’ Nite’ hitmaker insisted he’ll be glad to stop making albums to he doesn’t have to “deal [with] this madness anymore”, before adding he didn’t want his words to be “twisted”.
He continued: “Dont get it twisted either im happy and this is not a rant before headlines make it that haha just being honest w everyone…
“I have a lot of blessings happening in my life and I wont let anything get me down becuz life is so great right now (sic)”
Earlier this week, Cudi promised to release one more album of “all new music” before quitting the business, admitting he’s “not sure” what he wants to do next.
Last month, he teased: “I’m really curious to see what else I can do. I was thinking about this, this is like a wacky idea I had years ago.
“It would be cool to one day be a kindergarten teacher. Just do that for a couple years.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Yungblud admits he doesn’t “relate” to “older” acts like The 1975 and Arctic Monkeys.
The ’11 Minutes’ hitmaker – whose real name is Dominic Harrison – insisted those acts feel like a “generation apart” from himself, and he doesn’t want to emulate their “profound” appearances just yet.
He told Rolling Stone UK magazine: “When I look at The 1975 and Arctic Monkeys, they’re such a different generation to me. When they speak, they’re profound now.
“I don’t want to be profound yet, I want to be on the fucking tarmac, on the ground. I love Matty [Healy] and I love Alex [Turner] but I don’t relate to them as much as I used to.
“They’re older and it’s all very serious… I’m THERE and then I’m not. We’re absolutely a generation apart, there’s a big difference between us.”
He feels like they have “different brains” and a “different way of communicating”, whereas he relates more to the likes of Billie Eilish, Lil Peep, Mac Miller and Lil Nas X.
Meanwhile, Yungblud, 25, explained his approach to his own music, which is hinged on not wanting to create a “masterpiece” so much as being able to give people a voice through his art.
He said: “I wanna be that feeling of throwing paint at the wall and sometimes it’s gonna be a masterpiece and sometimes it’s gonna f****** suck.
“I look at truly great British artists like Amy Winehouse or Arctic Monkeys or Sam Fender, they have their critically acclaimed albums on [album] one or two or three.
“I am not like them, I will never be like them. My masterpiece is not ‘Back to Black’ or ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’.
“It’s a 35-year career of making other people feel like they can express themselves. They are about the music; I am about the f****** people.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jack Harlow was “embarrassed” for his family when he played to just seven people at one of his shows.
The 24-year-old rapper – who will be toasted at the GQ Men Of The Year Celebration 2022 in association with BOSS in London on November 16 – has reflected on an awkward show in his pre-‘Whats Poppin’ era when a handful of people turned up to see him at a local theatre in Wisconsin.
Speaking in the December/January issue of British GQ, he said: “I was not only embarrassed for myself, but – and my family didn’t care, they were proud of me no matter what – but I was embarrassed that that was the crowd I attracted… it’s more vulnerable when your family is involved.”
Now, Jack is still haunted by the feeling of that show and the worry of it ever happening again, which he compared to “anxiety” as a child.
He explained: “That feeling of, like, the parents having to see their kid go through that. That type of s*** could make me cry.
“That’s the anxiety behind events, behind shows, behind anything: what if I put all this effort in and no one cares?
“My fear is like, I’m gonna have a birthday party and no one’s gonna come.”
The star is in a much more positive place with his career now, although he admitted it was a struggle from the age of 19 when he was adjusting to a life in the public eye.
He added: “I was at a point where I felt like I needed the company of a woman constantly.
“I don’t know if it was validation I was searching for, but there was something I wanted.
“Now I crave alone time; I love it. I’m not running through ’em like that.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lorde has warned touring has reached “an almost unprecedented level of difficulty”.
The ‘Green Light’ singer – who has been on the road for most of the year – admitted the costs of putting on live shows are spiralling due to various factors including the global economic downturn, “three years’ worth of shows” happening at the same time, and fans’ “totally understandable wariness” around health risks in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, but most artists are reluctant to raise ticket prices by too much or they risk alienating their supporters.
She wrote in a newsletter to fans: “Basically, for artists, promoters and crews, things are at an almost unprecedented level of difficulty.”
Sharing a link to a news article about the issue, she also flagged problems with “extremely overbooked trucks and tour buses and venues, inflated flight and accommodation costs, ongoing general COVID costs, and truly mindboggling freight costs.”
She continued: “To freight a stage set across the world can cost up to three times the pre-pandemic price right now. I don’t know s*** about money, but I know enough to understand that no industry has a profit margin that high.
“Ticket prices would have to increase to start accommodating even a little of this, but absolutely no one wants to charge their harried and extremely-compassionate-and-flexible audience any more f****** money.
“Nearly every tour has been besieged with cancellations and postponements and promises and letdowns, and audiences have shown such understanding and such faith, that between that and the post-COVID wariness about getting out there at all, scaring people away by charging the true cost ain’t an option. All we want to do is play for you.”
While Lorde feels lucky that the money she makes in other aspects of her career means the cost of touring doesn’t pose an issue, she warned going on the road has become a “demented struggle to break even or face debt” for less mainstream acts.
The 26-year-old star expressed her concern at the impact these issues have on the mental health of everyone involved in putting a tour together, noting a vast number of artists have axed gigs over the last year.
She wrote: “We’re a collection of the world’s most sensitive flowers who also spent the last two years inside, and maybe the task of creating a space where people’s pain and grief and jubilation can be held night after night with a razor thin profit margin and dozens of people to pay is feeling like a teeny bit much…
“Just a month ago I was looking at a show that was pretty undersold and panicking, only for it to sell the remaining 2,000 tickets in ten days. Wild stuff.
“I wanted to put all of this in your minds to illustrate that nothing’s simple when it comes to touring at the moment, and if your faves are confusing you with their erratic moves, some of this could be playing a part.”

The 80-year-old icon is poised to release the special collection – which includes 80 7″ singles, personally curated by the former Beatle – on December 2.
McCartney said: “I hope the songs in this box-set bring back fun memories for you too. They do for me, and there will be more to come…”
The collection – which will also be released digitally – will include some of his best-known singles, including ‘My Love’, ‘Live and Let Die’, ‘Band on the Run’, ‘Silly Love Songs’, ‘Coming Up’, ‘Say Say Say’ and ‘No More Lonely Nights’.
The box-set is presented in a special wooden art crate, and includes a 148-page book that features a personal foreword by McCartney, as well as an essay by music journalist Rob Sheffield.
What’s more, each box includes an exclusive test pressing of one of the singles.
Meanwhile, McCartney previously revealed that he felt “lucky” amid the COVID-19 pandemic because he was still able to write new music.
The chart-topping icon admitted that his passion for making music hasn’t dimmed, despite all of the success he’s enjoyed during his career.
He shared: “Music is important.
“Like I say, I’m lucky, because what I do, it all starts with writing, and I can pretty much do that anywhere, so long as I’ve got a guitar.
“I like having stuff to do, as it keeps the brain busy. And on top of all my projects, I’ve had the luxury of just being able to sit down and write songs for no reason, which is great. It keeps me off the streets.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Little Simz finds “comfort” in songwriting.
The 28-year-old rap star – whose real name is Simbiatu Abisola Abiola Ajikawo – has “always enjoyed” putting her thoughts and feelings into a song and explained that the “purpose” of her work is “very important” to her.
She said: “I’ve always found comfort in putting things down on paper – I communicate at my best when expressing myself through writing. Purpose is so important to me. I want to always act with it. With music or words, people think they’re hearing sound, but they aren’t – they’re hearing intention. If it’s there in the writing and production, that is the reason why, when someone plays a specific chord on the piano, it can move you to tears.”
The ‘Introvert’ hitmaker – who won a BRIT Award for her efforts in music and has received the Musician award at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards 2022 on Thursday (10.11.22) – added that she wants to give “everything” to her young fans and believes that she has been “blessed” by a higher power with her talent.
She told the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “‘I hope it makes the audience feel they’re experiencing something big and engaging together, that they’ll tell their kids about in 20 years. Not comparing myself to her, but you know that thing when someone tells you they got to see Beyoncé? I would love people to feel that about my shows, and get to say: “I was there.” That makes me want to give everything to them. It’s my personal belief that I’m one human being, and it doesn’t feel right for me to take credit for all these gifts I’ve got… I’ve got to be blessed somehow. There have been shows where I’ve on the verge of passing out, or throwing up, and I feel like it wasn’t just me that got me through the performance. I always feel like something has got my back, is holding me up, caring for me – and has plans for me. For me, it just helps knowing that this is over and above me – it’s not actually about me.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Smith reveals their new album ‘Gloria’ will feature Ed Sheeran, Jessie Reyez, and Koffee.
The 30-year-old star – who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns – took to Twitter to share details about their upcoming LP after already breaking records with the first single from the album, ‘Unholy’, a collaboration with Kim Petras that made them the first non-binary and transgender artists to sit atop the Billboard 100.
Jessie will be included on two of the record’s songs; the duet ‘Perfect’, and ‘Gimme’ along with Koffee, while Ed makes a guest slot on the last track on Sam’s fourth album – which is due out on January 27 2023 – ‘Who We Love’.
Meanwhile, the ‘Stay With Me’ hitmaker recently shared they it was “still hard to be queer” despite society’s progression and the industry they worked in, detailing how they experienced street harassment.
Sam told Zane Lowe on his Apple Music 1 radio show on Monday (07.11.2022): “Everything is moving forward in a wonderful way. But there is realities that are quite hard to swallow when it comes to the stats of the countries, where it’s still illegal and it is hard. It’s still hard to be queer. There’s still backlash. I still get things said to me on the street, even now. The weirdest thing is you can be famous, you can be a pop star and you still get it.”
Sam explained they found it strange “because I thought I’d become a pop star and I’d never get a bad word said to me ever again. I’d never have homophobia. I’d never experience it if I became a star. And then it happens and it’s still there. It’s still there.”
The ‘La La La’ hitmaker – who unveiled plans to go on a UK and European tour next year – admitted it took “bravery” to be who they are.
Sam said: “It just takes bravery. It really does. And I think you’re made to be, you have to talk about your queerness immediately, I think, if you become one and you’re queer. You have to talk about it all. And I’ve stepped into that because I’ve now realized how powerful that is. Oh my god. And there’s kids out there that need this. They need us to talk about it.”
