‘It’s something that I just naturally hold back’: Dua Lipa won’t use music to share her private life

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa doesn’t want her music to be overly personal.
The 29-year-old star explained that she won’t bare her soul on her records for the sake of getting “people’s attention” and suggested that other artists are “ruthless” at exposing their private lives through their work.
In an interview with Anderson Cooper for ’60 Minutes’, Dua said: “It’s something that I just naturally hold back.
“Some people are just so ruthless with their own private life that they decide to put it all out in a song because they know that it’s gonna attract people’s attention.”
The ‘Houdini’ hitmaker continued: “For me, it was always important to make music that people really loved, not because I was putting someone out on blast.
“Not because I’m doing it for the clickbait at maybe someone else’s expense.”
Dua’s second album ‘Future Nostalgia’ proved to be a major hit despite being released at the height of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and was delighted to be dubbed ‘The Quarantine Queen’.
She said: “It didn’t end up being, you know, the night club experience, but it ended up being the kitchen dance parties. The soundtrack to people’s workouts at home, to kind of keep them sane during that time.”
Dua is a lover of dance music but gets frustrated by the stigma that surrounds female artists in the genre.
The ‘Levitating’ singer said: “You’re always met with some kind of pushback as a female artist if you’re not, like, with a guitar or with a piano.
“Just like, ‘Oh, she can’t sing. Oh, it’s all processed. Oh, it’s this, oh it’s whatever.'”

Jade Thirlwall’s next solo song was co-written by Raye

OHMYGOSSIP — Jade Thirlwall has teamed up with chart-topper Raye on her next solo single, ‘Midnight Cowboy’.
The Little Mix star is set follow-up her debut track ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ with another “bass-heavy” tune, which sees her rap, and it’s been revealed that she recruited the BRIT Award-winning star to help pen the song.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Like Angel Of My Dreams, Midnight Cowboy is a bass-heavy beast of a track.
“Raye helped write the song earlier this year with Jonah Christian, who has worked with the likes of Cardi B and Normani.”
Jade raps: “I’m a real wild b****, yeah, I’m mental. I’m the ride of your life, not a rental.”
It’s expected to drop next week.
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old pop star recently admitted she wrote her “best music” when she stopped worrying about trying to craft a viral hit.
Promoting ‘Angel Of My Dreams’ – which features a sample of Sandie Shaw’s Eurovision-winning tune ‘Puppet On A String’ – she confessed that working on her tracks became much easier when she gave up trying to put together the perfect song for the radio or TikTok.
During an interview with Rebecca Judd on Apple Music 1, Jade explained: “I think I’ve actually surprised myself creatively. I think the minute I stopped caring as much about like, ‘Oh gosh, what’s going to work on radio, what’s a TikTok hit and all this stuff’, I started writing my best music.
“So I think I needed this time to evolve and know who I am as my own artist.”
Jade explained how she has embraced an “experimental vibe” for her upcoming debut solo album because there is now a lot more “creative freedom” for female artists.
She went on: “There’s a lot of songs on the record that have that same experimental vibe. I’d say the record as a whole, to be honest, I definitely have a few of the kind of, I guess more straight down the line poppy songs on there, but peppered in with the chaos, that is my brain …
“I think there’s a really exciting time in music now where it’s evolved to a point where, especially for women in music, there’s a lot more creative freedom.
“There’s a lot more acceptance for whatever age you are or who you want to be as an artist. It doesn’t feel as restrictive as when it did when I first maybe entered the industry in 2011.
“And I think that’s really encouraging for me to have watched that evolution in music to get to where I am now.”

Johnny Marr hits back at Morrissey

OHMYGOSSIP — Johnny Marr has admitted he “said no” to a Smiths reunion.
The ‘Easy Money’ hitmaker has responded to a string of recent claims from former bandmate Morrissey, who alleged the 60-year-old guitarist had “ignored the offer” to get back together for a 2025 world tour, “blocked” the release of a greatest hits album, and acquired “trademark rights and intellectual property” of The Smiths, meaning he could tour as a band without him.
A statement from Johnny’s management explained the musician had taken steps to trademark the group’s name “following an attempt by a third party” to use it and “as a gesture of goodwill”, he had offered to share that with his former bandmate.
The statement, which was shared on social media, read: “Here are the facts:
“In 2018, following an attempt by a third party to use The Smiths’ name – and upon discovery that the trademark was not owned by the band – Marr reached out to Morrissey, via his representatives, to work together in protecting The Smiths’ name.
A failure to respond led Marr to register the trademark himself. It was subsequently agreed with Morrissey’s lawyers that this trademark was held for the mutual benefit of Morrissey and Marr. As a gesture of goodwill, in January 2024, Marr signed an agreement of joint ownership to Morrissey. Execution of this document still requires Morrissey to sign.”
Johnny then added: “To prevent third parties from profiting from the band’s name, it was left to me to protect the legacy. This I have done on behalf of both myself and my former bandmates.
“As for the offer to tour, I didn’t ignore the offer – I said no.”
Despite Morrissey’s claims Johnny could tour under the band name with a different singer, his team insisted that won’t be happening.
The statement read: “Additionally, speculation about Johnny Marr touring with a different singer as The Smiths is not true. There are no such plans.”
Meanwhile, when it came to the proposed new greatest hits collection, Johnny felt it was unnecessary.
The statement concluded: “Johnny Marr also confirms that he declined a suggestion for another greatest his compilation from Warner Music Group given the number already in existence”.

Michael Kiwanuka fears touring costs could put off musicians

OHMYGOSSIP — Michael Kiwanuka admits that performing live is a costly venture.
The 37-year-old singer has played a number of outdoor gigs this summer but admits that the expense of performing live has taken a financial toll.
Michael told Music Week magazine: “I just finished festival season and I could feel the hole it made in my pocket.
“For artists that make music that has a human touch to it, you need to tour to connect with people.
“That’s something you can’t replicate, something where you can create a synergy and a fan for life, and on top of that, you can pay back the fans that are streaming, listening and spreading your music to people.”
A survey found that 72 per cent of artists reported no profit from their recent tours and Michael is fearful that the economic uncertainty will prevent future talent from being successful in the industry.
The ‘Cold Little Heart’ artist said: “If it gets too pricey, you can’t do that. I worry that the quality of artists we produce may diminish because they don’t learn the grassroots, what it is to play and connect with your audience.”
Michael is set to release his fourth studio album ‘Small Changes’ in November and is hoping to help future stars by revisiting his own Movement Records label – a short-lived idea that he launched in 2013.
He said: “We didn’t really get it fully off the ground as much as we would have liked.
“I sort of wish I did that later, maybe after (his third LP) ‘Kiwanuka’ or around that time.
“Having my own label or own outfit someday would be really nice, especially as I get older and younger artists are coming through.
“(A label) could be one way to stay connected to each generation, to offer a place for young songwriters, artists that are doing their own thing, carving their own lanes, to have a place to start.”

Chesney Hawkes inspired by Saltburn as he strips off for Get A Hold Of Yourself music video

OHMYGOSSIP — Chesney Hawkes took inspiration from Barry Keoghan’s nude scene in ‘Saltburn’ for his new music video.
The 52-year-old star has released his first new single in 12 years, ‘Get A Hold Of Yourself’, and mimicked the scene where Barry’s character Oliver Quick dances in the buff around the mansion at the end of the movie for the cheeky video.
Chesney told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “You can really do what you want.
“The not giving a f*** thing is actually important in life. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to have fun with the video for this song.
“I bare it all in this video and I just kind of went, ‘F*** it, I’m having fun’. What I will say is that it was based on the last scene in ‘Saltburn’.”
Chesney revealed that his kids – Casey, 23, Jesse, 21, and Indi, 18, who he has with his wife Kristina – laughed the nude video off as a “midlife crisis” for their father.
The ‘One and Only’ hitmaker said: “There was a lot of laughter going on and slight embarrassment going on. But they’re cool with it.
“I’ve got an 18 year old, a 21 year old and a 23 year old. So they’re like, ‘It’s just Dad doing his thing, having fun, having a midlife crisis’.”
Chesney thinks that his new single may take some of his fans by surprise as it has a “dance feel”.
He explained: “This has got kind of a dance feel to it, that I guess people might be a little surprised by. What I wanted was for people to hear it on the radio and be like, ‘That’s Chesney Hawkes?!'”

Doechii wants to ‘bring back’ traditional hip-hop

OHMYGOSSIP — Doechii wants to “bring back” hip-hop’s “traditional roots”.
The 26-year-old rapper – who went viral on TikTok in 2021 with her song ‘Yucky Blucky Fruitcake’ and later signed to Top Dawg Entertainment – says her aim with her recently released mixtape, ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’, was to “represent” the relatable hip-hop she first fell in love with whilst also pushing it “forward”.
Speaking to Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, she said: “When people are listening to this project, they’re really witnessing me reconnect with my roots. I learned how to rap through boom bap beats, through classic beats. My first rap that I ever made was a diss track.
“With me kinda coming back to myself … I kinda re-fell in love with hip-hop. And realised that there is a sense of tradition in hip-hop that I really want to represent and bring back.”
Doechii – who recently teamed up with pop star Katy Perry on her latest single ‘I’m His, He’s Mine’ – says rappers need to share their “feelings” and be “honest” more than ever in these times of “economic recession”.
She explained: “There is importance in tradition. I feel like it is important for us to uphold the heart of hip-hop, which is lyrical composition, it is skill, it is wittiness, but it is also talking about our feelings, being honest about what we’re going through and connecting us as people.
“I feel like, especially in the time of an economic recession, people need to feel things right now and we need to talk about it. And we need to do it through rap, which is why I chose the sonical direction that I chose.
“I wanna take us back to this classic space in hip-hop and just remind people of the traditional roots of where this started — and do it in my way and push it forward.”

The Eagles pay tribute to late co-writer and ‘brother’ JD Souther

OHMYGOSSIP — The Eagles have paid a touching tribute to their late “brother” and collaborator JD Souther.
The pioneering songwriter co-wrote several of the Grammy-winning rock group’s tunes – including ‘The Best of My Love’, ‘New Kid in Town’, and ‘Heartache Tonight’ – and contributed to 77-year-old band member Don Henley’s solo works, and they have fond memories of the “talented” star, who died on September 17 at the age of 78.
In a post on their website, the group wrote: “We have lost a brother, a friend and a brilliant collaborator, and the world has lost a great songwriter, a pioneer of the Southern California sound that emerged in the 1970s. J.D. Souther was smart, talented, well-read, and in possession of a wicked sense of humor. He loved a good meal, a good movie, and a good Martini… and he loved dogs, adopting many, over the course of his lifetime.
“Born in Detroit and raised in the Texas Panhandle, he was a student of the deep roots of the best American music – from country, to jazz, to classical, as well as “Standards” from the Great American Songbook – and that knowledge and appreciation informed his work. He was a crucial co-writer on many of our most popular songs, including, The Best of My Love, New Kid in Town, and Heartache Tonight. J.D. also collaborated on many of Don Henley’s solo works, including The Heart of the Matter, Little Tin God, If Dirt Were Dollars and Talking to the Moon.”
They concluded: “We mourn his loss and we send our condolences to his family, his friends, and his many fans around the world. He was an extraordinary man and will be greatly missed by many. Adios, old friend. Travel well.”
JD’s passing came less than a week before he was due to hit the road for a tour on September 24.
His representative confirmed he died peacefully at home in New Mexico. No cause of death was given.
The songwriter – who was born John David Souther – struck up a friendship with the group’s late co-frontman Glenn Frey and the pair played in bands together.
JD was offered the chance to join Eagles but didn’t take up the offer in the end.
He used to date singer Linda Ronstadt, 78, and the pair collaborated many times.
His writing credits also included James Taylor’s 1981 song ‘Her Town Too’.
The singer also had a successful solo career with his biggest hit being 1979’s ‘You’re Only Lonely’, which peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
His most recent album was 2015’s ‘Tenderness’.

Måneskin’s Damiano David teams up with Labrinth on debut solo single

OHMYGOSSIP — Måneskin frontman Damiano David’s debut solo single is produced by Labrinth.
The 25-year-old Italian singer – who shot to fame when the rock band won the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Zitti e buoni’ – has been teasing his first solo project on social media and will debut the track ‘Silverlines’ on September 27.
Sharing a clip of a failed radio transceiver communication with studio wizard Labrinth, 35, on X, Damino wrote: “@Labrinth come in.
“Ground control to Labrinth.
“Commander, I think we’ve lost him.”
Speaking to Billboard about the song last week, he teased: “[It’s] Something I’ve been working on for a lot of time and I am very proud of so I really can’t wait for the day to come.”
In a dramatic trailer on social media narrated by the singer as he rides in the back of a car, he says: “My name is Damiano David. I was born in 1999, Rome, Italy. I love music, arts and women. I love the feeling of beautiful clothes and the smell of a nice perfume. In my life I’ve been a thief, a liar, a lover, a shapeshifter.
“I travelled all around the world to find my voice, just to end up where everything’s started. My name is Damiano David and today is the first day of my life.”
Damiano is not the only member of the group to be embarking on a solo career, as bassist Victoria De Angelis recently dropped her debut single.
Fans were concerned after the two members of the ‘Supermodel’ band – completed by Thomas Raggi and Ethan Torchio, both 23 – announced their side projects, but it doesn’t spell the end of the ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave’ group.
Victoria, 24, who released her debut solo single, ‘GET UP B****! (Shake Ya A**)’ featuring Anitta, last week, told NME: “We just finished our tour a couple of weeks ago and it went amazing so now we are just having a little ‘chill moment’ but of course, we are not done.”
Asked how she came to team up with the 31-year-old Brazilian pop star, she recounted: “I just sent her the demo I made and I was like, ‘I have this track, I think it would be sick to have you on it’, and she sent me the track after one week.
“I was on a plane downloading it with the little Wi-Fi that I bought and I was like, ‘Ahh’, shaking my a** on the plane. I love Anitta, she’s so bada** so it was the perfect collaboration.”

Lainey Wilson ‘spat on’ by gig-goer at her concert

OHMYGOSSIP — Lainey Wilson has recalled being “spat on” by an audience member last year.
The 32-year-old country music star cannot fathom why anyone would pay to come and see a musician and then shoot their saliva towards them, but she didn’t let the “weird” incident interrupt her set and “kept rolling” like a pro.
Appearing on ‘Taste of Country Nights On Demand’, she spilled: “Last year when we were on our headlining tour – when we were just on a club tour – someone spit on me on stage … It was weird. I saw it coming through the air. It was like I made eye contact with the spit. And then it just lands on me and I’m just, like, [strumming my guitar].
“I thought about getting down there and finding whoever it was, but I didn’t. I kept rolling. I just kept rolling.”
The Grammy-winning star suggested they may have been “drunk”.
She added: ”Why in the world would you buy a ticket and then go spit on somebody?
“There’s some mean people in the world.
“They could’ve just been drunk and just being silly.”
Meanwhile, Lainey recently admitted she is still in shock at duetting with the Rolling Stones.
The musician opened for the legendary group at their Chicago concert in July before singing a duet with Sir Mick Jagger on ‘Dead Flowers’ during the band’s main set and Lainey admitted she could not believe they reached out to her.
She told Variety: “Oh my gosh. It was such a highlight. I mean, a highlight of my life, my band’s life, my crew’s. Nobody could believe what was actually happening. It was one of those days that we kind of looked around at each other and we’re like, is this real? And everybody made us feel so welcome, and Mick reached out to me and he asked if I wanted to play ‘Dead Flowers’, and I said, you count me in. And I got to go into his dressing room and rehearse, and then he brought me out and was so supportive. At the end of the day, I feel like if Mick Jagger is cheering you on, then I think I can do anything. I love how country that song is and I mean, they’ve just been such a big influence of mine, and also just for the genre in general. They’ve influenced every single genre, but especially country.”

He wrote on a statement on X, formerly Twitter: “Hey everyone.
“Unfortunately i have to postpone the rest of the North American tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks.

He told the New York Times newspaper: “It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done.’

The ‘Lion King’ actor also admitted he doesn’t long for chart success with his music.
He added: “Success to me is, honestly, being able to put out a wide-scale album that I would listen to.
“For this album, I really wanted to be able to play big rooms and have big, anthemic songs that fill those rooms, so that people feel a sense of togetherness.”

Chester Bennington’s son blasts Linkin Park founder for replacing dad with Emily Armstrong

OHMYGOSSIP — Chester Bennington’s son Jaime Bennington has blasted Linkin Park founder Mike Shinoda for replacing his late father with singer Emily Armstrong.
Jaime – whose dad took his own life in 2017 aged 41 – alleged Shinoda has “quietly erased [his] father’s life and legacy in real time”, and he claims the ‘Numb’ hitmakers have “refused to acknowledge the impact of hiring someone like Emily” following their seven-year hiatus.
He posted on Instagram: “People aren’t having a difficult time wrapping their heads around the prospect of Linkin Park reinventing itself.
“They’re having a hard time wrapping their head around how you: 1). hired your friend of many years @emilyarmstrong to replace [Chester]. (sic)”
Jaime also referenced former Dead Sara singer Emily’s alleged ties with the Church of Scientology, and her previous support of Danny Masterson, who was sentenced to life in prison in 2023 after he was convicted of raping two women.
However, Armstrong, who made her Linkin Park debut in a live performance last week, has issued a statement to “clear the air” about her previous support for Masterson.
She wrote on her Instagram Stories. “I wanted to clear the air about something that happened a while back. Several years ago, I was asked to support someone I considered a friend at a court appearance, and went to one early hearing as an observer. Soon after, I realised I shouldn’t have.
“I always try to see the good in people, and I misjudged him. I have never spoken with him since. Unimaginable details emerged and he was later found guilty. To say it as clearly as possible: I do not condone abuse or violence against women, and I empathise with the victims of these crimes.”
Linkin Park – who have also added new drummer Colin Brittain, in place of Rob Bourdon – will release a new album, ‘From Zero’, on 15 November, and they will embark on a six-date arena tour.
