OHMYGOSSIP — Bow Wow wants hip hop to unionise.
The 35-year-old rapper has called on his fellow musicians to come together with a “committee” similar to the National Basketball Association (NBA) and its trade union the Players Association.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “Hip hop needs a board! No different than the NBA w/ the players association. A committee. That can set rules and keep things in control and protect this thing we call hip hop!”
He also suggested the potential body could even help with retirement plans for older stars to help them transition to the next stage of their lives.
He added: “And have a retirement plan for the og rappers. I hate seeing my heros liquor’d out no money just washed. (sic)”
The idea received some support from long-running hip hop festival Rock The Bells.
The organisers responded on Twitter: “Our hip-hop heroes deserve better; that’s why we started Rock The Bells.
“Almost 5 years later and we’re still riding for our heroes by gettin’ them paid for experiences like Rock The Bells Cruise and Rock The Bells Festival, licensed merch deals brand partnerships while keepin’ their legacies on blast through dope content and opportunities.
“Their legacy is our legacy; without them there is no us. There is no Hip-Hop.”
Bow Wow isn’t the first rapper to call for such a body, with the Hip-Hop Alliance union being launched last year by Public Enemy frontman Chuck D, Kurtis Blow, and KRS-One.
In a post announcing the organisation, KRS-One wrote: “Managers, Artists, Agents, Engineers and Producers, what is the retirement plan, healthcare plan, and fare commission standards for us?
“What is a fare wage for what we do within ‘hip-hop’ as an industry? Who speaks for us? What brings dignity and respect to the work that we do?
“Answer: The Hip Hop Alliance! With the knowledge, the skill, and the power of our collective voice, there is no reason why we cannot protect ourselves and our future!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Skrillex has addressed why he has “been gone” from music, admitting he went through the “toughest year” of his life in 2022.
The 35-year-old DJ and record producer has admitted he was “working on myself” after he “never ever coped” with the death of his mother, which resulted in him trying to “drink the pain away”.
In a series of tweets, he wrote: “Had the toughest year of my life in 22, as did so many others. I literally found myself with no drive and purpose for the first time in my life
“My mother passed away a few years back 2Nd day of Lalapalooza tour in SA. I never ever coped with it … I drank the pain away and kept going
“People ask why “I’ve been gone” or “fell off”, rightfully so. Like I said , 22 was sort of my tipping point, I had to put everything on ice especially my projects/ career
“the truth is I didn’t cancel sunset and movement festival because of my albums. It we because I was working on myself (sic)”
Skrillex returned to music this month with two new singles, ‘Rumble’ and ‘Way Back’, and the star turned 35 on Sunday (15.01.23).
The ‘In da Getto’ hitmaker admitted he has found a “new sense of peace” for the first time in four or five years, and he thanked his fans for all the support they have given him over the years, admitting it “means the world” to him.
He added: “For the first time in 4-5 years I’ve found a new sense of peace. It took so much work and sacrifice to get here.
“There’s my bday tweet to you all.. Turing 35 for me was realizing the are certain f**** you should not give , you’ll be more free for that

OHMYGOSSIP — New Order have released a ‘Blue Monday’ t-shirt in aid of mental health charity MIND.
The ‘World in Motion’ hitmakers are “proud” to have teamed up with the Campaign Against Living Miserably to mark ‘Blue Monday’ (16.01.23) – the day that shares the name of their 1983 hit track and is believed to be the most depressing day of the year – to raise awareness and money for mental health treatment with the garment.
The band said in a statement: “We are proud to be ambassadors for CALM and honoured to be using ‘Blue Monday’ to help raise awareness for the brilliant work they do to support millions of people struggling with their mental health.”
The iconic Factory Records’ graphic designer, Peter Saville – who was behind the iconic artwork on the original single of the same name – labelled his work on the top as “tongue in cheek” as he lauded the work of the charity.
The 67-year-old artist said: “It’s a bit tongue and cheek launching a commemorative Blue Monday tee on Monday 16th January. But ultimately we wanted to use this as a vehicle to raise awareness and funds for CALM’s important work.
“Whether you’re having a Blue Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, we want people to know that CALM is there for you every day if you’re struggling.”
Simon Gunning, the charity’s chief executive, hailed the venture a “brilliantly creative idea”.
He said: “’Blue Monday’ has been on repeat since 1983 for a generation of music lovers. From the first beat of the intro, to perhaps the most iconic 12” sleeve of all time, millions of people are instantly drawn into what has rightly become one of the best-loved tracks in British music history – and that memorable opening line ‘How does it feel?’ fits perfectly into CALM’s ethos of support.
“To have New Order and Peter Saville, to support us with such a brilliantly creative idea we will reach thousands of people with the clear message that whether it’s the middle of January or any other day, CALM is always here for you.”
Recently, the group’s Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris marked the 42nd anniversary of their Joy Division bandmate Ian Curtis’ suicide by testifying in the UK Parliament about how they didn’t spot the signs.
Bernard said:“Originally, we didn’t think he had a mental health problem – we thought he had a problem with epilepsy.
“His lyrics were a bit on the dark side, to put it mildly, but when Ian was with us on a day-to-day basis and in rehearsals, he was a good laugh.
“You look at a lot of photos of Ian at the time, and a lot of them are of him with his head in his hands. Those photos were taken in the two weeks before he died. Most of the rest of the time, he was fine.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Cave hates songs written “by the emerging horror of A.I.”.
The ‘Into My Arms’ hitmaker does “not feel the same enthusiasm” for songs created by ChatGPT that fans seem to after they used the software to send him a few tracks “in the style of Nick Cave” and he admitted he is concerned about the technology.
The 65-year-old musician wrote on his blog The Red Hand Files for his January entry: “Since its launch in November last year many people, most buzzing with a kind of algorithmic awe, have sent me songs ‘in the style of Nick Cave’ created by ChatGPT. There have been dozens of them. Suffice to say, I do not feel the same enthusiasm around this technology.
“I understand that ChatGPT is in its infancy but perhaps that is the emerging horror of AI – that it will forever be in its infancy, as it will always have further to go, and the direction is always forward, always faster.”
Nick deemed that music ought to stem from “suffering” from a real emotion experienced by a living and breathing person and not a machine.
He continued: “Songs arise out of suffering, by which I mean they are predicated upon the complex, internal human struggle of creation and, well, as far as I know, algorithms don’t feel. Data doesn’t suffer. ChatGPT has no inner being, it has been nowhere, it has endured nothing, it has not had the audacity to reach beyond its limitations, and hence it doesn’t have the capacity for a shared transcendent experience, as it has no limitations from which to transcend.
“ChatGPT’s melancholy role is that it is destined to imitate and can never have an authentic human experience, no matter how devalued and inconsequential the human experience may in time become.”
The ‘People Ain’t No Good’ singer branded such songs “a grotesque mockery”.
Nick added: “Mark, thanks for the song, but with all the love and respect in the world, this song is bulls***, a grotesque mockery of what it is to be human, and, well, I don’t much like it – although, hang on!, rereading it, there is a line in there that speaks to me – ‘I’ve got the fire of hell in my eyes‘ – says the song ‘in the style of Nick Cave’, and that’s kind of true. I have got the fire of hell in my eyes – and it’s ChatGPT.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will release new album ‘Council Skies’ on 2 June.
The ‘Black Star Dancing’ hitmaker has given fans a taster of what’s to come with the record after releasing its lead single ‘Easy Now’ on Tuesday (17.01.23), which is accompanied by a music video featuring ‘House of the Dragon’ star Milly Alcock.
Noel said of the album: “It’s going back to the beginning. Daydreaming, looking up at the sky and wondering about what life could be … that’s as true to me now as it was in the early ’90s. When I was growing up in poverty and unemployment, music took me out of that.
“‘Top of the Pops’ on TV transformed your Thursday night into this fantasy world, and that’s what I think music should be. I want my music to be elevating and transforming in some way.”
The record – which is available to pre-order in various formats including CD, Heavyweight Vinyl with Bonus 7″, a digital and deluxe edition with three LPs and a two-CD version boasting features from The Cure frontman Robert Smith and the Pet Shop Boys – was made at Noel’s Lone Star Recording Studios and the iconic Abbey Road Studios with production from Paul ‘Strangeboy’ Stacey and a guest appearance from The Smiths’ former guitarist Johnny Marr.
The album’s artwork was captured by Manchester-based photographer Kevin Cummins and honours a century of the opening of Maine Road Football Stadium, the former home of Noel’s beloved Manchester City and takes fans on a tour of the rest of the 55-year-old rocker’s favourite spots in his home city.
The release of the album will be marked by a string of headline shows across the UK including venues in Manchester, London and Wales.

OHMYGOSSIP — Haim are working on their fourth album.
The ‘Summer Girl’ trio – which consists of sisters Este Haim, 36, Danielle Haim, 33, and Alana Haim, 31 – are back in the studio making their latest LP, according to a video posted to social media, captioned “HAIM4”.
On a TikTok shared on Monday (15.01.23), the text reads: “When your sisters are making you get back in the studio but you were born to be an Oscar award winning actress.
In the clip, Alana – who starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2021 movie ‘Licorice Pizza’ opposite Cooper Hoffman, the son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman – mouths “Please, I’m a star,” the viral audio spoken by actress Mia Goth in the horror film, ‘Pearl’.
The band – who recently appeared in Taylor Swift’s star-studded music video for her single ‘Bejeweled’ as her evil step-sisters alongside Laura Dern, Dita von Teese and Pat McGrath – previously revealed they are “always writing” before they hit the stage at Glastonbury Festival this summer.
Alana said: “We’re always writing, it never stops. I think the biggest thing is being away from touring for two years was the most heartbreaking for us, we’ve always considered ourselves a touring band.
“We love playing live, and we just did our tour in the states and in a couple of weeks we get to do our UK tour, and we’re just so excited. We’re playing The O2 arena!”
The news comes as Haim marks a decade this year since they dropped their first LP ‘Days Are Gone’ in 2013. Their smash-hit was followed up with 2017’s ‘Something to Tell You’, which came out three years before ‘Women in Music Pt III’.
Their latest live dates include their opening slot on certain dates on Taylor’s upcoming Eras tour – which will celebrate her ten studio albums like her new offering ‘Midnights’ – which the threesome posted on Instagram, writing: “WHO’S READY FOR ROUND 2?”.

OHMYGOSSIP — The Beatles record label Apple was “mad”, says Tony King.
The former music executive detailed how the Fab Four’s headquarters was a hive of “lovely” chaos with Sir Ringo Starr – who convinced him to become the head of A+R – getting his loo roll delivered there and a sloshed Keith Moon, the late drummer for the Who, playing in an industry-wide darts tournament.
The 79-year-old executive told the Guardian newspaper: “It was so mad, Apple. The poor office boy had to do Ringo’s shopping every Friday. There would be all these toilet rolls stacked in the lobby while they counted them out, making sure they’d got the right number for Ringo.
“But the mad side of it was lovely. We had an Apple darts team and we’d challenge different record companies. Keith Moon showed up wanting to play, but he was so drunk, the office boys had to hold him up so he could throw a dart.”
Tony also noted how he saw the “vulnerable” side of the late John Lennon – who also performed in the genre-defying 60s band alongside Sir Paul McCartney and George Harrison – when they worked together in Los Angeles.
He said: “I knew him in the 1960s and he could be very cutting. I was intimidated by him. I went to LA expecting this sharp-tongued Liverpudlian, and instead I got this really soft, vulnerable man. I couldn’t believe it.”
Tony will release his memoir ‘The Tastemaker’ next month – which details working alongside some of the 20th century’s biggest musical acts like Joni Mitchell, The Rolling Stones and his partying in New York with Andy Warhol – also praised his“brave” friend, late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury amid his battle with AIDS before he died in 1991.
Tony said: “So brave. Shopping until the end, buying up paintings in Christie’s auctions. I used to lie on the bed next to him and hold his hand, which was stone-cold, like a bone.
“They’d bring in the paintings he’d bought and prop them up at the end of the bed for him to look at. I said, ‘Fred, why are you doing this?’ And he said, ‘What else have I got to do? I can’t go out, I can’t leave the bed, but at least I can go shopping.’ He had this wonderful, indomitable spirit.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Billie Eilish is a Supergrass fan, according to frontman Gaz Coombes.
The reunited Britpop group played The Other Stage at the world-famous Glastonbury festival last summer, and Gaz has revealed the US pop megastar was side of stage singing along to their song ‘Sun Hits The Sky’.
Gaz told NME: “I didn’t see her but I heard she was singing along to ‘Sun Hits The Sky’ on our little viewing gantry [on The Other Stage] which was kind of cool.
“I’ve got huge respect for her. I think what she does is great and how she does it is cool. They’re an interesting writing team, Eilish and her brother [Finneas] as well.”
The ‘Moving’ rockers – completed by Danny Goffey, Mick Quinn and Rob Coombes – have a long history with the Worthy Farm extravaganza, having first played in 1995, and Gaz says it helped “shaped our band in many ways”.
He added: “Glastonbury was a real moment for us, just to play there again on The Other Stage.
“We always had a bit of a love affair with Glastonbury from our earliest performance in ’95. That shaped our band in many ways, that early performance. I just remember being quite excitable but kind of nervous and young at the time. It was that combination of s******* my pants but having this excitement that needed to be released, which are always good ingredients for a live performance.”

The 30-year-old pop star is unable to drink before a show but thinks it is “fabulous” to look out during a concert and to find that the crowd is intoxicated.
Sam said: “I love it when the crowd are drunk, it is fabulous, I can’t drink though before I sing. I have never really done that. But I am down for people to get drunk and wine drunk is a fabulous drunk and I am ready!”
Meanwhile, the ‘Stay With Me’ hitmaker was asked about the recent 200 Greatest Singers of All Time list published by Rolling Stone magazine – which was topped by late soul legend Aretha Franklin but controversially missed out ‘My Heart Will Go On’ hitmaker Celine Dion – and noted that other music icons such as ‘Over the Rainbow’ songstress Judy Garland and jazz singer Sarah Vaughan were also overlooked, but dismissed the ranking as unimportant because they all have “such an incredible fanbase” to begin with.
Sam told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “Also Judy Garland wasn’t on it and Sarah Vaughan, who is my favourite singer of all time. But do you know what, it is just a list, that would be my reply, it is just a list. And I think Celine Dion, and all these artists and singers, they have such an incredible fanbase and that is what matters, the fans, the music and that direct relationship.
“I try not to read critics, and pieces written by non-singers, I don’t read that anymore.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lana Del Rey has slightly delayed her upcoming LP, ‘Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’.
The 37-year-old actress was due to put out her ninth studio album on March 10, but it’s now been pushed back until March 24.
Lana made the announcement on her private Instagram page, where she also shared the track-listing and eye-popping topless artwork.
The record – which will act as the follow-up to 2021’s ‘Blue Banisters’ and ‘Chemtrails Over The Country Club’ – includes features from Father John Misty, Bleachers and Tommy Genesis.
Last month, Lana seemingly threw shade at her ex Sean Larkin by only promoting the album in his hometown.
The ‘Born To Die’ hitmaker had a billboard erected in the police officer’s home city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, advertising ‘Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’.
The Los Angeles Times reported that the ‘Video Games’ singer posted a selfie of herself in a car with the billboard seen in the background.
The picture was posted on the star’s private Instagram account and had the caption: “There’s only one and it’s in Tulsa.”
And when asked by a fan why she chose Tulsa, she replied: “It’s. Personal.”
Lana’s fans have praised her for her level of pettiness.
One commented on the screenshot of the post shared on Reddit: “God I need this level of petty-strength, advertising your album probably about how sad you are in your ex’s hometown – only Lana, this is why I love her.”
Lana had already released the title track on Sean’s birthday (07.12.22).
She spent a lot of time with Sean in his hometown.
In a profile with the New York Times, Sean said: “When we were in Tulsa we hung out with my law enforcement friends and their spouses. We all Super Bowl partied together, dinners and things like that. Normal things couples do with their friends.”
They started dating in September 2019, but went their separate ways in March 2020.
However, it was said to be amicable between them.
Lana said: “We still talk and whatnot, we just have busy schedules right now.”
The 37-year-old star is known for her heartbreaking lyrics about tragic romances.

OHMYGOSSIP — The Rolling Stones have shared a live version of ‘Wild Horses’ from their greatest hits-style LP ‘GRRR Live!’.
The slow-burner featured on the 1971 LP ‘Sticky Fingers’, but was released the prior by the Flying Burrito Brothers, as Sir Mick Jagger and co were unsure whether it was worthy of being recorded.
In 2018, the iconic rock ‘n’ roll band was joined on stage by Florence Welch to perform the folky blues number at their London Stadium concert, and it went down a storm with the crowd.
Guitarist Keith Richards previously said of recording the tune: “If there is a classic way of Mick and me working together this is it. I had the riff and chorus line, Mick got stuck into the verses. Just like ‘Satisfaction’, ‘Wild Horses# was about the usual thing of not wanting to be on the road, being a million miles from where you want to be.”
This live version, however, was recorded during the group’s 50th-anniversary tour in 2012.
A decade ago on December 15, the band took to the stage at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey for the last of four shows in New York state as part of the ’50 And Counting Tour’.
The now iconic concert – which has been re-edited and remixed for the upcoming release – featured guest appearances from the likes of Bruce Springsteen on ‘Tumbling Dice’, and Lady Gaga on ‘Gimme Shelter’.
Other surprise stars included The Black Keys (‘Who Do You Love?’), Gary Clark Jr. and John Mayer (‘Going Down’) and Mick Taylor (‘Midnight Rambler’).
The show aired on pay-per-view in 2012 but hasn’t been available to fans until now, with various formats due to drop on February 10, 2023.
As well as three LP packages – black, white and red – there will also be a double CD version, as well as options for a double CD edition with either a BluRay or DVD of the gig.
As well as the show in full, three tracks from the December 13 show – also in Newark – will be available as bonus features on the DVD and Blu-Ray editions.
Those three bonus tracks will be a collaboration with John Mayer on ‘Respectable’, as well as performances of ‘Gimme Shelter’ and ‘Around And Around’.
The Rolling Stones’ ‘GRRR Live!’ will be released on multiple physical and digital formats by Mercury Studios on February 10, 2023.

OHMYGOSSIP — Fall Out Boy’s new album was “made with love”.
Frontman Patrick Stump has admitted it was important to create a follow-up to 2018’s ‘Mania’ that can be “savoured” by fans.
Speaking at the 2023 iHeart Radio ALTer Ego festival at the weekend, he said of the five-year wait for the LP: “It’s so wild that it’s been that long [since ‘Mania’].
“It didn’t really feel that long, and we’ve been kind of tossing ideas around for this record since then. But it was really important to me that we made something that we savoured … we wanted to make this like you’re making dinner for your family, you know?”
Bassist Pete Wentz quipped: “So nuggets and fries in the air-fryer together!”
Patrick continued: “(Laughs) No. I’m saying something you make with love, that you’re really putting a lot into. Like nuggets!”
So far, after many cryptic teasers, the band has announced the single ‘Love From The Other Side’, which is released on Wednesday (18.01.23).
The release date came as the band sent seashells to fans including Oli Sykes to tease their new album.
The Bring Me The Horizon frontman was among those who received the bizarre gift from the ‘Sugar We’re Going Down’ hitmakers as part of their cryptic campaign.
Sharing a picture of his package from the pop punk megastars, he wrote on Instagram: “Wtf what is this [and] why is it at my house”.
The shell had “1 of 13” written in the middle, while there was an accompanying letter on headed paper which read: “A Homeboy’s Life”.
Dated January 19, 2023, it also included the message “Love from the otherside”, and was signed off with the initials of the band members and the group’s name.
Earlier this month, the band – also made up of Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley – continued to tease record with a letter to fans promising “more than a gold watch” is in the pipeline.
In an email sent to their loyal followers, entitled ‘A Homeboy’s Life’, they cryptically pondered: “Here we are finishing another spin around the sun, a cosmic twirl. Still trying to get free of everything we’re supposed to be.
“But before the champagnes gone warm and flat, Glitter to dust, squinted eyes at the new year sun: Let’s prime the engine and take it out for another magic trip.
“We spent the last year jamming ideas in a tiny room [and] can’t wait to share them with you.”
FOB then hinted that fans won’t have too long to wait, and thanked them “for always sticking around”.
Back in November, the ‘Centuries’ rockers took out an advert in the Chicago Tribute newspaper teasing their upcoming – as yet unannounced – eighth studio album.
The ad was on a black background and read “FOB 8” followed by the words: “If you build it, they will come.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Melua has announced she is releasing her ninth album.
The 38-year-old singer’s 10-track ‘Love and Money’ will be released March 24 via BMG, and will be supported with a previously confirmed spring UK and European tour.
A follow-up to her ‘Album No 8’ record from 2020, and 2021’s ‘Acoustic Album No 8, her latest record was produced by Leo Abrahams and recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios during 2022 while Katie was pregnant with her son, who she had in December and named Sandro.
The first single from the record – album opener ‘Golden Record’ – was premiered on BBC Radio 2 on Friday (13.01.23) and is billed as “Katie reflecting on her place in the world; the bonuses and challenges of being a woman in the music industry and the delicate balance of career and family, all brought to life in a crescendo of personal acceptance and catharsis”.
Katie said about the song: “It’s about the scene changing and being a woman in the music industry and how strange and lucky I feel to have a job I’m addicted to.
“This approach for nearly 20 years led me to being very dogmatic and leaving very little space for my life at home.
“Before I knew it, the years had flown and I was 36, newly divorced, still pedalling like mad with music, while around me, friends were all married, making babies.

Katie is best known for hits ‘The Closest Thing To Crazy’ and ‘Nine Million Bicycles’ but her ‘Album No 8’ was her most critically-acclaimed yet, as it saw her push back against romantic idealism of poop songs.
‘Love and Money’ ill be available digitally, on vinyl and standard and deluxe CD formats.
The deluxe CD includes four bonus tracks including a stunning duet with German recording artist Philipp Poisel.

OHMYGOSSIP — Gaz Coombes left ‘Supergrass’ as it had stopped making him happy.
The singer-songwriter, 46, said he needed to find joy again in music as a solo artist once he left the band, which announced in 2010 they were splitting due to creative differences.
Gaz told the i newspaper on Friday (13.01.23): “I didn’t leave ‘Supergrass’ to go solo. I left because I wasn’t enjoying it, and it wasn’t making me happy. So I needed to get myself happy.”
He added about launching his solo career: “I realised that just because I wasn’t in the band didn’t mean I was going to stop.”
Gaz said about his first solo record, 2012’s ‘Here Comes the Bombs’: “It was transitional, there was definitely a hangover from ‘Supergrass’.”
But a Mercury Prize nominee for his 2015 record ‘Matador’ allowed him to establish himself as a solo artist.
Gaz added: “I made it without thinking about what I’d done before, or feeling like I needed to pull in a fan base, or any of those pressures.
“I just did whatever made me feel good. And when it worked, I thought, this is it.”
His fourth studio album, ‘Turn the Car Around’, released on Friday (13.01.23), features ballads, pop, folk and cinematic sounds.
Gaz began creating the record at his home studio when the Covid pandemic struck, but later brought in his band – who used films projected on the wall to inspire sounds.
Peter Jackson’s ‘The Beatles’ film ‘Get Back’ inspired the album’s closing track ‘Dance On’, while Martin Scorsese’s ‘Mean Streets’, Marlon Brando classic ‘On the Waterfront’ – and ‘Gremlins’ – also sparked ideas.
Gaz said: “It was mainly a way of getting a different vibe and stopping us from just staring down at our fret boards.
“We had ‘Gremlins’ on, and the guitarist did this mental guitar solo at the end of ‘Feel Loop (Lizard Dream)’.
“I looked up and he’s watching some evil Gremlins. So that did have an effect on his manic guitar.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Pharrell Williams says he doesn’t have the “mental endurance” to create film scores.
The N.E.R.D. singer, 49, considers movie composing a “marathon” and thinks his speciality is the “three- to five-minute” song “race”.
He told The Guardian newspaper’s G2 supplement in a question-and-answer session with fans when asked if a ‘Star Trek’ film would be his ideal movie to score: “I am a Star Trek fan, but scoring is a whole other thing. It’s not for me.
“There are all kinds of races: relay, marathons, cross-country, sprints. A film is a marathon. Every step has to be pencilled in to take people on a journey.
“A 15-second jingle would be a sprint. My speciality is the three- to five-minute race.
“I don’t have the mental endurance to stay on something as long as a film score. There’s a reason Hans Zimmer has two Oscars.”
When asked to name the greatest music producer of all time, and to say if he agreed with philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche that life without music would be a mistake, Pharrell replied: “Quincy Jones, obviously! Life without music would be like a human being without sense. I was always making music as a kid, but never thought I could do something with it.
“I always knew I was going to do music, I just never knew what – whether I would end up as a terrible music teacher or an art teacher who was always asking his friends to come over and play on the side. But this was how it was written and I give thanks every day.”
Dad-of-four Pharrell also said female artists should have “more agency” in the music business, adding “the idea that women only make 70 cents on a man’s dollar is still unacceptable”.
He added about supporting non-gendered awards: “There’s something nice about celebrating woman as an individual species.
“If the Academy Awards combined best male and female actor, that would be cool, because that’s something that needs to happen as a response to patriarchy and gender favouritism.
“But we shouldn’t lose sight of the gift that is the feminine aspect of women.”

OHMYGOSSIP — U2’s Bono and The Edge are set to release a new documentary.
The musicians have been working with presenters David Letterman on ‘Bono and The Edge: A Sort Of Homecoming, With Dave Letterman’, which will air on Disney Plus.
Letterman will join the pair in their native Ireland, culminating in a U2 concert in Dublin.
He said in a statement: “Recently, I won a radio contest. Winner gets to visit Dublin with Bono and The Edge (radio contest part not true, but I feel like a winner).
“They showed me around, introduced me to their musician friends, and performed some of their greatest songs in a small venue. It’s a great tour. Get in touch with them – I’m told there are still availabilities. I’m the luckiest man on the planet. (There are no availabilities).”
The documentary has been directed by Morgan Neville.
It is set for release on March 17, the same day U2’s new compilation album ‘Songs Of Surrender’, featuring “reimagined and re-recorded” songs is released.
The record will feature 40 songs split across four albums – one named after each of U2’s four members; Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton – all curated and produced by The Edge.
He said: “Hearing the songs interact, and finding the running orders for the four albums was really thrilling; finding the surprising segues, getting a chance to DJ. Once we had four distinct albums it was easy to see who would be the figurehead for each one.”
