OHMYGOSSIP — Candi Staton has advised young musicians to make sure they have a good lawyer so they don’t get scammed out of money.
The 82-year-old soul legend was asked what lessons she would pass on to aspiring artists, and she claimed she’s not long finished paying back the record label for her 1976 hit ‘Young Hearts Run Free’.
She told the latest issue of MOJO magazine: “Always look at the contract. Go to the tiny print on page three, four, five. They will take advantage of you, you will be paying for every bit of promotion, for every party. Get an attorney to explain it all to you. When you think of how many copies ‘Young Hearts Run Free’ must have sold and yet I only paid Warners back everything last year.”
The ‘You Got the Love’ hitmaker previously recalled having to get her gun out after the promoters of her concert refused to pay her.
In a 2021 interview with The Guardian newspaper, she alleged that “when the promoters tried not to pay I had to get my gun out even though I was shaking in my shoes. Some of them would laugh at me with my little pistol. Others would say: ‘You don’t have to do that, girl. You’re classy’, and pay me.”
Meanwhile, Candi revealed she’s a huge fan of Beyonce and Alicia Keys, as well as her peers, the late Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight.
She said: “I love my dear [late] friend Aretha [Franklin] and Gladys [Knight]. I like Alicia Keys. Beyoncé’s ‘Irreplaceable’ is like my personal life [laughs]. Teddy Pendergrass. Sarah Dash [from LaBelle] was one of my best friends. If I was going through the worst time she would always call me, like she knew. I spoke to her last month and then three days later I saw on Instagram that she’d passed away. I called her number and her sister answered and confirmed it, and I just screamed.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Shakira’s new album is inspired by her split from Gerard Pique.
The 46-year-old pop star’s recent song ‘Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol 53′ was branded a “diss track” after she appeared to take aim at the former footballer – who has started a relationship with student Clara Chia Marti after the couple broke up last year – and she will delve deeper into the heartbreak for her upcoming record.
A music insider told The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Her next album is definitely going to be a tell-all record and she won’t be shy about letting everyone know about what happened.
“She was working on another record before she had suspicions about infidelity, so those songs are being re-written with new endings to give fans a fuller picture of the truth. Those who’ve heard snippets say it blends Latin, rock and hip hop and is more empowering than angry.”
The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker – who suggested that Pique had “traded a Rolex for a Casio” in the lyrics of her recent single – claimed that the track was for “women who rise up against those who make us feel insignificant.”
Shakira said on Instagram: “I never thought what for me was a catharsis and a release would go straight to number one in the world.
“I want to embrace the millions of women who rise up against those who make us feel insignificant.
“Women who defend what they feel and think and raise their hand when they don’t agree – they are my inspiration.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen Latifah thinks female rappers need to unite.
The 52-year-old star has urged female rappers to put their “ego” to one side and to work together more often.
The rap icon – who released her debut album, ‘All Hail the Queen’, in 1989 – said: “I would say to you, now is the time for you to do whatever you want with your career because we had that done to us. A lot of crews kind of claimed, like, the one female in the group and wouldn’t kind of let us all work with each other sometimes.
“Then the smart ones, of course, we got to jump on each other’s records and make smash hit music and elevate the whole genre.
“So, if you have the power or if you want to work with somebody go work with them. It’s all ego … and most of the time it’s not our ego it’s somebody else’s ego competing against someone else’s and we’re just the pawns.”
The ‘U.N.I.T.Y.’ hitmaker urged young stars to seize control of their own careers.
She told E! News: “Don’t be a pawn, control your career, speak from the heart, say what you want to say, represent us and let’s go. Let’s get this.”
Meanwhile, Cardi B previously claimed that she was actually happier before finding fame and success.
The 30-year-old rap star – who is one of the best-selling artists in the world – explained: “One positive thing is that, my family, whatever they want, they get. Everything that I want to buy, I can get. I don’t have to worry so much about my future.
“One negative thing is that, even though I’m happy, I feel like I was a little bit happier two or three years ago when I had less money.
“I had less people who had opinions about my life. I felt like my life was mine.
“Now I feel like I don’t even own my life. I feel like the world owns me.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Depeche Mode have confirmed their new single ‘Ghosts Again’ will be released this week.
The band’s latest track will drop on February 9 ahead of the launch of their new album ‘Memento Mori’ which is due out on March 17 and they shared the news in a post online along with the record’s artwork.
In a statement, bandmates Martin Gore and Dave Gahan told fans: “‘Ghosts Again’, the first single off Depeche Mode’s next album ‘Memento Mori’, comes out February 9th, 2023 … Set your clocks for Feb 9, 6:00 PM CET/5:00 PM GMT / 11:00 AM ET / 8:00 AM PT.”
The album is their first since the death of bandmate Andy ‘Fletch’ Fletcher, who died aged 60 in May.
Depeche Mode are also planning to hit the road again for a tour of North America – including stops at New York’s Madison Square Garden, Chicago’s United Center, Los Angeles’ Kia Forum and Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena in March 2023, and play London’s Twickenham Stadium on June 17, as part of the European leg of the jaunt in support of the record.
Speaking about the album, Martin, 61, commented: “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time. After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.” Dave, 60, added: “Fletch would have loved this album. We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows next year.” It will mark their first tour since 2017 and 2018’s ‘Global Spirit Tour’ in support of their chart-topping LP ‘Spirit’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Tom Jones’ song ‘Delilah’ has been banned from Welsh rugby matches.
The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has announced that due to the lyrics depicting a woman named Delilah being stabbed to death after her husband discovers she’s been cheating, the 1968 Ivor Novello award-winning hit is no longer allowed to be played before games at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
The spokesperson for the venue said: “Delilah will not feature on the playlist for choirs for rugby internationals at Principality Stadium.
“The WRU removed the song from its half-time entertainment and music playlist during international matches in 2015. Guest choirs have also more recently been requested not to feature the song during their pre-match performances and throughout games.
“The WRU condemns domestic violence of any kind. We have previously sought advice from subject matter experts on the issue of censoring the song and we are respectfully aware that it is problematic and upsetting to some supporters because of its subject matter.”
It will no longer be performed or sung by choirs at the stadium.
The 82-year-old Welsh music legend has previously defended the controversial lyrics, insisting it’s not meant to be taken “literally”.
He said: “I love to hear it sung at rugby games.
“It makes me very proud to be Welsh. I think if they’re looking into the lyric about a man killing a woman, it’s not a political statement. It’s just something that happens in life [and] he just loses it.
“The great thing about the song that everyone picks up on is the chorus. I don’t think that they are really thinking about it. I wasn’t thinking that I was the man that was killing the girl when I was singing the song, I was acting out the part and that’s what the song is. If it’s going to be taken literally like that then I think it takes the fun out of it. I think it takes the spirit out why it’s being sung.”
Tom last performed ‘Delilah’ at the stadium in June 2022.

OHMYGOSSIP — Shania Twain was still hoping to work with Prince before he died.
The ‘You’re Still The One’ hitmaker was invited by the late ‘Purple Rain’ hitmaker to his Paisley Park estate to make an album produced by him in the vein of Fleetwood Mac’s 1997 ‘Rumors’ record amid her split from her first husband, Robert John ‘Mutt’ Lange, who is also produced and co-wrote some of her music.
However, Shania’s insecurities about her voice and the fact Prince didn’t allow swearing stopped her from accepting the offer.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she recalled: “I missed out on that because Prince called me when I got divorced. We’re on the phone and he said, ‘Shania, why don’t you come to Paisley Park? I want to make the next Rumors album with you.’ And that was the weirdest thing he could have ever have said, because his standard of what he thought, where I could live as a standard was that album, Rumors album. And he said that to me. So when Prince said that to me, I’m like, oh man, I’m not even divorced yet. I’m just like, I’ve been dumped, but I’m not, obviously, divorced yet. I’m like, this is way too ironic what you’re saying. Right? And I’m such a major Prince fan. And then on top of it, I hadn’t found my voice yet, I was still working on it. I was so far from finding it still. I was writing, but I was too insecure to go and get with Prince in the studio. I was too insecure, in every way.”
Despite not being ready, Shania didn’t give up hope that she would one day get to work with the music legend, but he sadly passed away in 2017, aged 57.
She continued: “Plus, I’m on the phone with him and I’m swearing like I always do. He said to me, ‘Well, if you do decide to come to Paisley Park, there’s no swearing allowed here.’ So that was another strike. I’m like, oh no, I love you so much, but I don’t think I could get through writing and recording an album without swearing, somewhere along the way! What are you going to do to me if I swear? I might have to stand in the corner or something. I wasn’t sure about that. I don’t think I was ready for what all that was going to mean for me. I didn’t give up on it or anything, but then he died.”
Shania, 59, split from Robert in 2008 and the pair were divorced by 2010. The country pop star has been married to business executive Frédéric Thiébaud since 2011.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Shears’ new album was inspired by his wild house parties.
The Scissor Sisters star is preparing to release his new solo record ‘Last Man Dancing’ and he’s revealed it’s the first album he’s ever made without a single slow song on the track list as it’s a reflection of the parties he hosts at his home in New Orleans, Louisiana which has a dance floor and an altar dedicated to David Bowie.
He told NME.com: “I’ve got a dance floor, and throw mostly impromptu dance parties that pull in all kinds of people. My David Bowie altar gets lit up, the incense starts burning and everybody goes all night.”
He added of his new music: “It’s funny because my last album [2018’s ‘Jake Shears’] was so personal and my heart was on my sleeve, and now this one has nothing sentimental on it. Nothing! It’s the first record I’ve made where there’s no ballads on it. There’s nothing chill whatsoever.”
Jake went on to explain the album is divided into two parts and the second half is very upbeat. He added: “It gets very clubby and psychedelic. I’ve always made stuff you can play at a party, but I’ve never made anything I could pull out at 1am if I was DJing in a club. One of my favourite things the Scissors ever made was the second half of ‘Night Work’, and I wanted to make a piece that was even stronger than that.”
‘Last Man Dancing’ is due for release in June and it features a star turn from Kylie Minogue on the track ‘Voices’, as well as words from Jake’s childhood hero Jane Fonda on ‘Radio Eyes’ and an Iggy Pop sample on ‘Diamonds Don’t Burn’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Judas Priest are looking at “feasible opportunities” to get back on tour.
The ‘Breaking the Law’ hitmakers had been due to support Ozzy Osbourne when he went on the road in Europe and the UK and Ireland later this year but the former Black Sabbath frontman announced earlier this week he had been forced to retire from live performance due to ongoing health issues.
The group have now sent well-wishes to Ozzy, as well as a message to fans, reassuring them they will be back on stage as soon as possible.
They said in a statement: “We send all our love and support for Ozzy and thank our fans in the UK and Ireland especially for your loyalty by standing with us…
“Right now we’re looking at feasible opportunities to see each other again and will post update’s accordingly.(sic)”
Ozzy – who has Parkinson’s disease and suffered a serious fall, neck surgery, and other medical issues in 2019 – announced earlier this week that he is no longer “physically capable” of going on tour as he is still recovering from multiple spinal operations.
In a heartbreaking statement, he began: “This is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to share with my loyal fans. As you may all know, four years ago, this month, I had a major accident, where I damaged my spine.
“My one and only purpose during this time has been to get back on stage. My singing voice is fine. However, after three operations, stem cell treatments, endless physical therapy sessions, and most recently groundbreaking Cybernics (HAL) Treatment, my body is still physically weak.”
Addressing his fans, he went on: “I am honestly humbled by the way you’ve all patiently held onto your tickets for all this time, but in all good conscience, I have now come to the realisation that I’m not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/UK tour dates, as I know I couldn’t deal with the travel required. Believe me when I say that the thought of disappointing my fans really F**** ME UP, more than you will ever know.”
The 74-year-old singer’s team is working out a way for Ozzy to perform without travelling to different cities.
Addressing future performances, he said: “Never would I have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way.
“My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.(sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Matty Healy wants Oasis to reunite.
The 33-year-old rock star is best known as the frontman of The 1975 but is a big fan of Oasis and has begged brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher – who have not spoken to each other since 2009 – to “stop messing around” and put the band back together because “not one person” would rather be at one of their solo shows.
Speaking on CBC radio show ‘Q with Tom Power’, he said: “There’s not one kid, not one person, going to a High Flying Birds gig or a Liam Gallagher gig that would not rather be at an Oasis gig! Do me a favour: Get back together, stop messing around. That’s my public service announcement for today.”
The comments come just weeks after Noel – who has not had contact with his younger brother since declaring that he couldn’t work with him for ” day a longer” – explained that he would “never say never” to a reunion with his ‘Wonderwall’ hitmakers but insisted it would take a miracle to make it happen.
He said: “You should never say never, [but] it would have to take an extraordinary set of circumstances. That’s not to say that those circumstances would never come about.”
When asked by BBC Radio Manchester’s Mike Sweeney how he and 50-year-old Liam are getting on, he replied: “Oh, brilliantly, yeah. Genuinely, yeah. He [Liam] has taken a year out apparently to find himself.”
But in October, Noel insisted there is “no point” reuniting Oasis, because the Britpop band sells “as many records now” as they did during their 90s heyday.
When asked if they would ever reform, he quipped: “Er, would you go on holiday with your ex-missus? As funny as this sounds. Oasis sell as many records now per year as we
did when we were together. We’re as popular now in the eyes of the people as we ever were. And I’m happy with it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — RAYE launched her debut album with a start-studded Spotify party.
The 25-year-old pop star – whose real name is Rachel Agatha Keen – has enjoyed massive streaming success with hits such as ‘Hard Out Here’, ‘Black Mascara’ and ‘Escapism’, and on Friday (03.02.23), released her first album ”My 21st Century Blues’ after performing in front of guests such as Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall and ‘Head on Fire’ hitmaker Griff at a special event hosted by the streaming giant in London at The Dragon Room in Mayfair the night before.
In her speech, RAYE said: “I can’t believe this moment is really happening!”
The ‘Bed’ singer then treated guests at the party to exclusive premiere performances of ‘Flip a Switch’, ‘Buss It Down’, ‘Worth It’, and ‘Five Star Hotels’ in between DJ sets from Henrie and Tiffany Calver.
Other famous faces to attend the event included the likes of footballer Jordan Stephens, record producer MNEK, and rap star Tion Wayne RAYE even thanked her parents for helping her get this far in her career.
RAYE recently admitted that she enjoyed being able to “prove people wrong” with her success and explained that putting together the new album was like “playing a game of Tetris.”
She said: “It’s just brilliant when you get to prove people wrong! It just shows that you should back yourself, no matter what people tell you. All of them have entirely new vocals and we combed through the songs, chipping away at lyrics and playing a bit of Tetris with how I expressed the stories.”

The rock band – which formed in 1976 and currently consists of vocalist Dave Vanian, guitarist Captain Sensible, bassist Paul Gray, keyboardist Monty Oxymoron and new drummer Will Glanville Taylor in place of original member Pinch – are to return to the charts in April with new record ‘DARKADELIC’, the follow up to their 2018 smash hit ‘Evil Spirits’ after almost 50 years in the industry.,

OHMYGOSSIP — Shania Twain felt “liberated” by her new album.
The 57-year-old country star is known around the world for 1990s hits such as ‘Man! I Feel Like A Woman!’ and ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ but released her sixth studio album ‘Queen of Me’ on Friday (03.02.23) and explained that she was finally able to make the kind of music she would listen to herself.
She said: “The playfulness and the pop on the album felt more like the stomp of my childhood. It’s been liberating making the music I want to listen to and dance to without really thinking about genre because there is a bit of everything in there.”
The ‘You’re Still The One’ songstress recently revealed she had been airlifted to hospital as she suffered from a severe case of COVID-19 and was so “frustrated” at being kept away from so many people for so long that she was “so ready” to finally record the album after having written most of it during the pandemic.
She told The Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “It was quite serious; I was in a hospital so I was at this point of frustration and wasn’t able to get in a room with more than one of two people.
“I was so ready to record because I had written so much of the album during COVID.”
Meanwhile, the Canadian-born star worked with UK songwriters on ‘Queen of Me’ and went on to explain that she has always felt “less pressure” there than in her home country and believes that audiences would have been more “open-minded” to fellow country megastar Taylor Swift when she first came on the scene in the late 2000s.
She added: “I’ve never done that before. I didn’t know how I’d be but I was open to it because I’d been so isolated from working in any kind of group setting. So now, there are four or five of us in a room at the same time and it was a little bit like brain shock. We loved it and we were finishing two or three songs in each session. I always found the pressure off in the UK, for sure, not having to worry about what my genre was. My role isn’t to create genre-specific songs, I just create the best record I can make. They would have been more open-minded at least for Taylor. I think she is making the music she wants to make.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Carl Cox has “always been supported” by King Charles.
The 60-year-old DJ has enjoyed a long career in music and explained that although he never got the chance to meet the late Queen Elizabeth – who died in September at the age of 96 after a 70-year reign – but explained that his “whole career” has been helped by the now-monarch through his charity The Prince’s Trust and is hoping to receive an MBE like his fellow 90s DJs Norman Jay and Pete Tong.
Asked if he ever got to meet Her Late Majesty, he said: “Unfortunately, no. But my whole career was basically supported by The Prince’s Trust. Prince Charles, as he was, helped young businesses start up and he helped me in 1984. I was due to meet him a couple of times and it never happened because I was always working. Both Norman Jay and Pete Tong have got MBEs so who knows if I’ll get one. There’ll be a connection with King Charles if I do.”
Meanwhile, the ‘I Want You’ hitmaker returned to the charts for the first time in over a decade with ‘Electronic Generations’ and explained that he went “back to basics” with the record before “stepping out of his comfort zone” by taking to the stage at Wembley Arena.
He told Metro newspaper’s SixtySeconds column: “, I didn’t want to make another studio-orientated album again. So I created and jammed all the music you hear on the album. It’s a live recording, basically. I just went back to basics over the pandemic and jammed the s*** out of it. I recorded an hour’s worth of just nuts. I was stepping way outside my comfort zone. Normally when someone plays at Wembley Arena you think of the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder or any of the greats. Carl Cox, black DJ from south London, played a lot of rave music. Huh?
“But it came about because I grew up with the rave scene. We wanted somewhere to dance past 2am and we had a late licence until 5am. There’s been no other event in London doing that for a while. I played Electronic Generations live. It was a magical.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Gary Numan will perform three shows at the London Electric Ballroom in April.
The 64-year-old musician – who is known for hits such as ‘Cars’ and ‘Are ‘Friends’ Electric?’ – has continued to enjoy success in the music industry since he shot to fame as the lead singer of new wave band Tubeway Army in 1977 but “never imagined” he would be around long enough to mark his 998th, 999th and 1000th shows as he announces the three-night run at the prestigious music venue.
In a statement, he said: “I never imagined when I first started doing this a lifetime ago that I’d still be doing it, and still loving it, 1,000 shows later. But I am, and I do, and I’m excited to be celebrating such an important milestone with the fans over three epic nights at the Electric Ballroom in London.”
The ‘My Name is Ruin’ hitmaker- who has been married to Gemma O’Neill since 1997 and has daughters Raven, 20, Persia, 18, and 16-year-old Echo with her – will be joined on the run by his eldest daughter, who last year joined her father live on stage at Wembley Arena for performances of ‘Is This World Not Enough?’ and ‘Every Day I Die.’
The run of shows comes hot on the heels of Gary’s 2021 album ‘Intruder ‘ -which reached #2 in the UK Albums Chart – as well as the paperback release of his memoir ‘(R)evolution: The Autobiography.’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie T has added IDLES to his upcoming Finsbury Park show.
The 37-year-old rapper will take to the stage at the outdoor event in London on Friday June 20 and the rock band – which consists of Joe Talbot, Adam Devonshire, Mark Bowen, Lee Kiernan, and Jon Beavis – are thrilled to be joining him in what will be their only UK show over the course of the summer.
In a statement, Joe said: “There are certain artists that it would be hard to imagine the British musical landscape without. Jamie T is most certainly one, and one of my personal heroes, so this will be a big old win for all of us. All is love x”
The ‘Calm Down Dearest’ hitmaker will also be joined on the bill at his biggest concert to date by fellow rap stars, Kojey Radical, and Biig Piig, as well as ‘Dreams’ hitmaker Willie J Healey – who recently teamed up with Jamie for his track ‘Thank You’ – and G-folk artist Hak Baker, who noted that he loves coming home to perform.

Jamie T’s headlining show at Finsbury Park will continue a triumphant return for the ‘Between the Rocks’ singer, who took a break from music after releasing smash hit album ‘Trick’ in 2016 before coming back to the music scene with chart-topping record ‘The Theory of Whatever’ in the summer of 2022 and taking the album on a sold-out UK tour just before the end of last year.

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Minogue has collaborated with Jake Shears on a new track.
The 54-year-old pop superstar has teamed up with the Scissor Sisters frontman on his upcoming solo album ‘Last Man Dancing’ – which is due to be released on June 2 – for a song called ‘Voices’, which is listed as the third track on the new record and is said to have been inspired by “all the house parties” the rocker has thrown over the years.
Jake is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “The first half gives you those singalong moments that get everyone into it at the top of the night. As the hours turn, you can get a little deeper and darker, more where the second half of the record goes. It’s inspired by all the over-the-top house parties I’ve thrown.”
The ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ legend has worked with Jake multiple times over the years, most recently on the 2017 single ‘The Other Boys’ along with Nervo, and Nile Rodgers and performed backing vocals for the Scissor Sisters on their 2010 hit ‘Any Which Way’ but the rock band also wrote her 2007 ballad ‘White Diamond’, which she premiered during her ‘Showgirl Homecoming’ tour following her recovery from breast cancer.
For the new album, Jake – who also welcomes Le Chev, Amber Martin, and Big Freedia as special guests on the upcoming record – has signed with independent record label Mute, and founder Daniel Miller “cannot wait” for fans to hear the new music.
He said: “It’s my great pleasure to welcome Jake into the Mute family. Working with him on set-up over the past few months has been inspiring. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the new album, Last Man Dancing, and I’m looking forward to what is set to be an exciting campaign unfurling throughout 2023.”
