OHMYGOSSIP — Paramore singer Hayley Williams hopes no other young female in music experiences the “s***” she faced in the misogynistic emo scene.
The 34-year-old star was just a teenager when she started Paramore with her high schoolmates, and they went on to become one of the biggest bands to come out of the emo scene in the early 2000s before having mainstream success.
As the band release their six studio album, ‘This Is Why’, Hayley has recalled the misogyny she faced as a young woman in a male-dominated scene and being made to feel like she had to act like one of the boys.
In a candid interview for NME’s Big Read feature, Hayley said: “Oh, my God. I hope no young female experiences the s*** that I experienced. When we were teenagers, the way forward was to be tough all the time. Our entire scene was contributing to s****y treatment of women and anything that wasn’t masculine. We were out on Warped Tour, this little Fueled by Ramen band acting like a hardcore band on stage. It was like if I didn’t spit further, I felt like someone was going to throw me out.”
The ‘Misery Business’ singer went on to detail the bullying emo kids faced.
She said of the glamorisation of the scene: “It’s revisionist history on a less heavy topic. People look back with these rose-tinted glasses. They talk about the good and forget the rest. It was an alternative scene for a reason – it was weird. Those kids were bullied, that’s why so many guys in those bands wrote s****y songs about ex-girlfriends. I just get angry about the injustice of a bunch of people who were bullied, essentially creating a world where other people didn’t feel welcome.”
Paramore felt a lot of pressure to make ‘This Is Why’ the best possible record because they’ve got such a big fanbase now.
Hayley said: “We were grounded and feeling confident in one aspect of our lives and we were in such a safe bubble. Then we knew we were going to make something that wasn’t in that safe bubble and that was terrifying. The expectation is the main thing that would slow us down. There’s a lot more people waiting than there was the last time we did this.”
As for the future of the group, Hayley joked that she wants them all to live together “on a commune”.
She said: “I just hope that we’re making music together. I can’t see myself caring about us being the biggest and baddest. It’s more about the quality of what we make and our connection to each other. I honestly would be happy if we all just lived on a commune together.”
And bandmate Zac Farro – who completes the line-up with 32-year-old guitarist Taylor York – agreed, insisting their friendship is “the biggest achievement”.
The 32-year-old drummer added: “I think beyond all this, my hope would be to see the three of us and our families together still being friends. That’s the biggest achievement. I like playing shows and making records: those are amazing milestones. But our friendship is the most remarkable one.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jax Jones and Calum Scott have released the heartfelt single ‘Whistle’.
The ‘House Work’ hitmaker has teamed up with the former ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ star on the nostalgic track and accompanying music video, which sees Jax retrace his roots on the same buses he used as a kid.
Jax said: “2023 will be a busy year for me; ‘Whistle’ is just the start. I’m pleased I get to kick things off with a collab from Calum. His vocals are outstanding and bring so much class and emotion to ‘Whistle’.
“With this run of music, I’m digging into my influences from when I was young and trying to place more of myself, my life, and my inspiration into the creative. That’s why a lot of the songs sound nostalgic and why there are lots of visual nods to my early life. For example, we shot the video for Whistle on my local buses, the 176 and the 363. I’d catch those buses nearly every day, either to my music classes or to help my mum with the shopping.
“Using those routes allowed me to show my version of London, such as the multicultural aspects that influenced me musically and make up so much of who I am today. The little boy you see in the video is me. I’m travelling to my music class and I’m helping my mum with the shopping.”
The 35-year-old record producer, songwriter and DJ has plenty more music on the way that revisits his past.
He continued: “By showing these influences I’m exploring the idea of taking things that you grew up with and inserting yourself into them. In doing so, you’re taking ownership of those things rather than putting them on a pedestal now that you’re older.
“I’m excited to share the new music I’ve written and produced. I hope you enjoy Whistle and remember it’s just the start.”
Calum added: “So happy to be collaborating with Jax on this record! I remember hearing an early demo of ‘Whistle’ and immediately wanted in with the boys to finish the song and record a vocal! Big fan of Jax as an artist but after hanging out with him and his family, I’m a big fan of him as a person too! Excited for everyone to hear ‘Whistle’.”
Meanwhile, Jax recently threw his support behind Catherine, Princess of Wales’ campaign for early years development.
The 41-year-old royal doesn’t believe enough attention is paid to the “critical importance of our early childhood” and how profoundly a child’s first five years can shape their life.
And Jax was made an ambassador for the campaign after performing at the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee last summer.
He told The Sun of their secret meetings: “Our relationship started at the jubilee and we hung out at Buckingham Palace afterwards.
“We all got talking — they are super nice and super welcoming. To be asked to get involved and be an ambassador is a real honour. They are really down to earth and they just want to do positive things.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Lizzo and SZA have released their ‘Special’ remix.
The chart-topping stars first debuted the new version of Lizzo’s feel-good album title track at the latter’s sold-out Los Angeles Kia Forum show – which is currently available to stream on HBO’s ‘Lizzo: Live In Concert’ – last November, and now it’s available for fans to stream to their hearts’ content.
SZA tweeted upon its release: “@lizzo FT ME SPECIAL REMIX OUT NOW ! ! FEEL GOOD CAUSE U DESERVE IT !!!! Love y’all ! (sic)”
The release comes days after Lizzo scooped Record of the Year at the GRAMMYs for ‘About Damn Time’.
The 34-year-old singer dedicated her win to the late music legend Prince – who died in 2016 from an accidental overdose – and also paid tribute to fellow nominee Beyonce.
She exclaimed: “This is so unexpected!
“When we lost Prince I decided to dedicate my life to making positive music… I wanted to make the world a better place, so I had to be that change, to make the world a better place.”
Lizzo then thanked her producers, family and her team before tearfully heaping praise on Beyonce, who was in the audience.
She said: “Beyoncé, in the 5th grade I skipped school to see you perform. You changed my life. The way you made me feel, I was like, ‘I want to make people feel this way with my music.’ So thank you so much Beyonce. You clearly are the artist of our lives!”
The ‘Good As Hell’ hitmaker took the accolade ahead of ‘ABBA (Don’t Shut Me Down’), Adele (‘Easy On Me’), Beyonce (‘Break My Soul’), Mary J. Blige (‘Good Morning Gorgeous’), Brandi Carlile Featuring Lucius (‘You And Me On The Rock’), Doja Cat (‘Woman)’, Steve Lacy (‘Bad Habit’), Kendrick Lamar (‘The Heart Part 5’) and Harry Styles (‘As It Was’).
Earlier in the evening, Lizzo wowed the audience at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles with a spectacular medley.
Seen in silhouette, she began singing ‘About Damn Time’ a cappella before her band kicked in and she then told the crowd they were about to “have some church up on in here”.
She then began singing ‘Special’, backed by a gospel choir in black and gold dresses, for the main part of her performance.
Afterwards, host Trevor Noah exclaimed: “You don’t see that every day. Every single time she hits the stage, it’s phenomenal.
“I need to get me one of those gospel choirs. I love her. She’s like if dopamine was a person.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave Stewart has hailed Faye Fantarrow as a “rare jewel” after she released her new seven-song EP.
The 20-year-old singer’s ‘AWOL’ has been released via Dave’s Bay Street Records, and the former Eurythmics star believes Faye is a “one of a kind” talent.
Dave, 70 – who discovered the singer and has supported her work – said: “Faye Fantarrow is a rare jewel from the North East.
“She’s from Sunderland, a city with a big heart, and there’s no bigger heart than Faye’s. As a songwriter and performer, she tells stories to make you explode with joy or weep along with her at the trichotomy of the human spirit.
“Faye is one of a kind and I love her dearly as a sister, a daughter, and a great music partner.”
Dave relished working with Faye on the new record and he loves what she’s delivered.
He said: “We had an unbelievable time together while recording this EP. Both in search of musical freedoms, two souls laughing constantly at the joy of creativity. I love Faye Fantarrow.”
The release of the record has been expedited after Faye was diagnosed with an extremely rare and potentially fatal Glioma brain tumour.
Last year, Dave donated £50,000 to help Faye get the treatment she needs.
He previously said: “I love you and your amazing creativity Faye, you are one of the great songwriter/artists of our time and we need you.”
Faye, meanwhile, admitted that without the financial and emotional support of Dave, the possibility of travelling to the US for the potentially life-saving treatment “would never have been an option”.
She shared: “He said he would put money towards it and help fundraise, so we could tell my consultant there would be funding straight away.
“My consultant got in touch with Dr Wang in California who said the treatment was an option and was positive about the outcome.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jimmy Page is always “striving to be better”.
The Led Zeppelin guitarist is a perfectionist and despite being in the music business for more than six decades, the 79-year-old rocker doesn’t get it right all the time.
Asked if he’s as much of a perfectionist about the music business side as he is with the music itself, he replied: “God, no! But that perfectionism applied to everything, to be honest.”
Quizzed on whether he’s difficult to work with, he responded: “No. I don’t think I was at all.”
When asked if his bandmates – including Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and the late John Bonham – ever found him difficult to work with, he admitted he never got that impression from them.
He told Guitar Player magazine: “I don’t know if anyone thought I was.”
Jimmy added: “You’re always trying to strive to be better and better and better. That’s all there is to it. And sometimes, whatever you’ve done isn’t good enough. Do better, do better. But, you know, that’s my own thing. And I haven’t changed. That’s how I am.”
Meanwhile, Jimmy previously admitted he doesn’t think Led Zeppelin would exist today because of the immediacy of the online world.
The musician found working in the 1970s a “fun time as a creative musician” because the ‘Stairway to Heaven’ hitmakers were able to experiment with their sound and introduce new material at gigs without worrying it would leak any further than the venue.
He explained: “We used to throw songs into the live set that we hadn’t recorded yet, just for fun.
“We did that with ‘Immigrant Song’ at Bath Festival in 1970, and nobody had heard anything like it. You don’t have that freedom now because it would be posted online immediately. It was a fun time as a creative musician, a fun time to be in a band.”
The band ended in 1980 when drummer John passed away but they have reunited for special one-off performances, most recently in 2007.

OHMYGOSSIP — Lizzo insisted on a private BRITs rehearsal.
The 34-year-old singer insisted on clearing out the O2 arena as she ran through her routine and the star wants to keep her performance details a surprise.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Lizzo was very strict about her rehearsal and would not let a single person see it.
“She had the O2 cleared so she could run through her routine in private.
“Lizzo has performed at the Brits before but she is a dedicated performer so it’s not surprising she wanted to work on her moves in peace.”
Meanwhile, Lizzo recently revealed she was “proud” of herself for her performance at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles earlier this month.
Lizzo began with an a cappella version of ‘About Damn Time’ before singing her song ‘Special’ with a gospel choir.
She wrote on Instagram: “Can I say… IM SO PROUD OF MY VOCALS LAST NIGHT!” she wrote alongside a clip. “I been working on my voice for the last couple years and I’ve come a LONG WAY. Y’all think I’m a born singer but I was a RAPPER first. Thank you to @robertraab for guiding me.

OHMYGOSSIP — Arlo Parks has penned “a fair few songs” about girlfriend Ashnikko on her new album.
The ‘Cola’ singer and her rapper-and-singer partner – who she has been dating for just over a year – keep much of their romance private, but fans will get more of an insight into their relationship on some tracks on ‘My Soft Machine’, which is out on May 26.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, Arlo said: “We’ve spoken about how much we want to share.
“I feel like what keeps it so sacred and lovely is that it is just between us. But there are a fair few songs about her on the record.”
Elsewhere, Arlo admitted she went into “hibernation mode” after cancelling her shows due to mental exhaustion.
Last September, the 22-year-old singer axed her US run after suffering from “debilitating” burnout.
She wrote at the time: “I’ve been on the road on and off for the last 18 months, filling every spare second in between and working myself to the bone.
“The people around me started to get worried but I was anxious to deliver and afraid to disappoint my fans and myself. I pushed myself unhealthily, further and harder than I should’ve.”
She added: “I don’t take decisions like this lightly but I am broken and I really need to step out, go home and take care of myself.”
Arlo told the publication: “I think there was a point where I felt that I had given so much to the work that there wasn’t that much left over for me as a person.
“Your body and your heart tells you that there’s a need for balance, and that you’ve been kind of going too far in one direction.
I felt that super profoundly. And everyone in my team and around me was just super accommodating to me to take that space.
and just, like, go into hibernation mode and spend time with loved ones.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Linkin Park‘s Mike Shinoda has a solo song in ‘Scream VI’.
The 46-year-old musician revealed that he has recently started writing music for himself again and one of his tracks will be on the soundtrack for the upcoming horror movie.
In an interview with KROQ, he said: “Up until this year, I’ve been doing a lot of writing and producing for other people. And I recently kind of got the bug to do it for myself again. I do have a new song that’s gonna be in the movie ‘Scream’. What happened is they had reached out about: ‘Will you help us with music for the movie?’ And in the conversation I played them something and they were like, ‘Oh my god, can we use that?’
“I didn’t plan it – I would never have been like, ‘Oh, we’re gonna put out this big Linkin Park thing and I wanna put my song out right on top of it!’ That’s not good planning for me.
“But it’s great planning for Linkin Park fans, because there’s just more music – so I’ve got stuff I’ve produced that are other people’s songs, I’ve got my own song, and then we’ve got the Linkin Park stuff. And that’s not even everything we’re gonna be doing around this for Linkin Park fans. So it’s a great time to be a Linkin Park fan!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Inhaler “try not to be influenced” by U2’s The Edge.
Frontman Elijah Hewson’s dad is the Irish rock legends’ frontman Bono, but the indie group are doing their best to carve their own sound, but sometimes the guitar god’s “influence seeps in”.
Speaking to Guitar Player magazine, Elijah said: “We try not to be influenced by The Edge. Obviously, he’s such an important player, so that influence seeps in. Sometimes we’re like, Oh, does that sound like The Edge?’ We have to be careful about that.”
He then quipped: “We just make sure to have those dotted delays off. That’s our rule. As long as there’s no dotted delays, we’re grand.”
The singer recently admitted he prefers not to ask his father for music advice.
The 23-year-old musician has admitted he rarely talks to the U2 frontman about work but says he has “subconsciously” learned from his famous parent.
Asked if the ‘With or Without You’ hitmaker has taught him anything, Elijah said: “Definitely subconsciously, yeah. Just from hearing him play a song in the house and listening to it and he critiques it, and that sort of stuff.
“But I’d never ask him for advice – only advice about where am I going to live next year and that sort of thing. I try not to ask him about music.”
The ‘Ice Cream Sundae’ singer – who formed Inhaler with school pals Robert Keating, Ryan McMahon and Josh Jenkinso – has insisted he wants to make a name for himself.
Asked if the family connection is a positive or negative thing, he told the BBC: “A lot of U2 fans do come to our gigs, who are all really lovely.
“They’ve all been really supportive, so obviously that’s a benefit. “But I’d say it can also be an obstacle as well if you’re trying to do stuff your own way. But we’re not complaining at all.”
The Dublin rock outfit – who are inspired by bands like the Stone Roses and Joy Division – release their second studio album, ‘Cuts and Bruises’, on February 17.

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelis likes that her hit song ‘Milkshake’ is still “relevant” today.
The 43-year-old pop star enjoyed massive success with the track when she first released it in 2003 and now that she has created it as part of the Uber One Super Bowl Campaign, reflected that she has always felt her signature song is “fun” as she noted that she “doesn’t take herself too seriously.”
She said: “Obviously, I use Uber Eats all the time. So, it wasn’t a hard sell. This is fun, I get it, it’s cute.” As the professionally trained chef noted, their ad is “very tongue-in-cheek. I don’t ever take myself too seriously, I just think it’s fun. It’s fun that after 20 years, it is still relevant and it is still recognizable and it’s still something that I think takes a place in this generation, but I think it’s lived its life.”
The ‘Trick Me’ singer now lives on a remote farm in California with children Knight, 13, Shepherd, seven, and two-year-old Galilee and went on to add that returning to ‘Milkshake’ – which was initially intended for pop superstar Britney Spears before it made its way to Kelis – was “really fun” because she is in a new phase in life herself.
She told E! News: “It’s fun to be able to play around with it and poke at it a little bit. Because it’s funny. And I feel like especially now that I’m a chef and farmer, it gets a new phase. It’s a huge part of my life. I live on a farm and so, eating good food is really important to me, and being able to be creative in the midst of that, is always my happy place, so it’s definitely part of my lifestyle.”

OHMYGOSSIP — John Lydon has insisted that there are “no cultural heroes” in music today.
The 67-year-old rock star – who was formerly known by his stage name of Johnny Rotten – shot to fame as part of the controversial band the Sex Pistols in the late 1970s and enjoyed massive success with their single studio album ‘Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols’ but insisted that there is nothing on the scene like the ‘God Save the Queen’ rockers today.
He said: “You have no cultural heroes now. Just fraudulent political theorists!”
Meanwhile, the ‘Pretty Vacant’ hitmaker – who was born in London but had Irish parents – had been hoping to represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest later this year but failed to advance past the qualifying rounds of the competition and admitted it had been “hard” to throw himself back in the spotlight after years of providing full-time care for his wife Nora, 80, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2018.
He told The Sunday Times: “I’m never asked to do anything in Blighty! It’s hard to live down sensationalist headlines. ‘Filth!’ ‘Fury!’ I lost control of my good name an awful long time ago and it doesn’t seem worth fighting back. [I’d been] thrown in the deep end and I don’t know if I can survive. Will my ego come back? It’s hard to go from 24/7 care to this. I’m unprepared. I have to bring this illness up to the public but leaving Nora disturbs me. It’s a rock and a hard place. But what do I do?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Former Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ member Mike Campbell is still grieving for Tom Petty.
The 73-year-old guitarist – who co-wrote many of the band’s hits with Petty, including ‘Refugee’, ‘Here Comes My Girl’, ‘You Got Lucky’, and ‘Runnin’ Down a Dream’- admits he’s “still processing” the passing of the rock legend, who died in 2017 aged 66, and it was “bittersweet” for him to hear the songs on the band’s ‘Live at the Fillmore 1997′ compilation when he was preparing it for release last year.
Asked if it’s “bittersweet”, he told Guitar Player magazine: “Of course it is, ’cause Tom’s gone and that’s kind of a hard thing for me to deal with, to sit there and listen to stuff and hear his voice. It touches on some grief that I’m still processing. But I’m a big boy.
I can deal with it. There’s a lot of material and it’s important, I think, because some of the young people have maybe never heard the old catalogue, so when they’re re-issued there’s a chance for that stuff to be re-experienced.”
Campbell also revealed there are a handful of tracks that have never been released in the archive – but not enough for an album.
He said: “No. There’s a few extra tracks here and there. A lot of them have already come out. But, no, there’s no mystical album that’s sitting on the floor. There’s the live stuff, like I mentioned before. Those are the main things that have never been heard.”
Campbell previously said he’s thankful he had the opportunity to really “connect” with his friend on their final tour together.
He said: “In the hospital, lying in the bed, I talked to him a little bit. He couldn’t communicate, but maybe he heard me, I don’t know.
“It’s hard to put into words but I had an opportunity on the plane a couple of times towards the end of the last tour to connect, to say all the things I really wanted to say to him.
“We were able to touch base, to identify our bond and our friendship in a very powerful way. I feel fortunate to have had those moments with him, not knowing what was going to unfold.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Pregnant Rihanna performed from a floating stage at her first live performance in five years at the Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show on Sunday (12.03.23).
The Grammy winner entered the stage in a daring red outfit on an elevated platform, showing off her bonny bump, as she kicked off the high-energy performance at Phoenix’s State Farm Stadium with ‘B***h Better Have My Money’ followed by ‘Where Have You Been’.
The custom Loewe ensemble was “designed to build volume in step with the dynamic scenography of the show.”
Rihanna’s first performance since 2018, and since she and A$AP Rocky became parents for the first time to their son in May, didn’t disappoint with the 34-year-old Barbadian performing without any special guests for 29 minutes.
The beauty mogul stormed through hits including ‘Only Girl (In the World)’, ‘We Found Love’ and ‘S+M’ flanked by dancers.
The next section included ‘Work’ into ‘Wild Thoughts’ and ‘Pour it Up’.
At one point, Fenty Beauty founder Rihanna checked her makeup in her brand’s compact mirror before ‘All of the Lights’ into ‘Run This Town’ and ‘Umbrella’.
Rihanna ended the spectacular medley on the floating stage with fan-favourite ‘Diamonds’ as a massive firework display lit up the stadium.
It wouldn’t have been possible for Rihanna to fit all of her hits into the 29-minutes, with six of her No. 1 singles not making the setlist, including ‘Disturbia’, ‘Love The Way You Lie’, ‘SOS’ and ‘Take A Bow’.
The crowd included Rihanna’s collaborators Jay-Z , DJ Khaled and partner A$AP.
Earlier, Chris Stapleton kicked off the big game with a rendition of the national anthem, ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’.
There was then a performance by ‘Abbott Elementary’ star Sheryl Lee Ralph, who sang ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’, and music legend Babyface performed ‘America the Beautiful’.
The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl 2023 after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in an epic showdown in Arizona.

OHMYGOSSIP — Becky Hill is “so happy” with her new music.
The 28-year-old pop star won Best Dance Act at the BRIT Awards for the second year in a row on Saturday (11.02.23) and admitted that she felt with her first album ‘Only Honest on the Weekend’ that she had been trying to please other people.
She is quoted by The Daily Star’s Wired Column as saying: “The music that is coming out this year, I am so happy with it because I wanted to take it in more of a dance direction.
Because I kind of feel like with album one and the singles before it was almost like I was trying to please people.”
Immediately after scooping up her accolade, the ‘My Heart Goes’ hitmaker – who started out as a finalist on the inaugural series of ‘The Voice’ in 2016 and has since lent her voice to numerous Top 10 hits – gave her “biggest thanks” to her fans as she admitted she had suffered from “imposter syndrome” when she was nominated alongside Calvin Harris, Fred Again. She said: “The biggest thanks of all has to go to my fans who for another year have helped me win a Brit Award. My imposter syndrome kicked straight in when the nominees were announced and I was so scared and when I read all their comments I was so touched so thank you so much. OHMYGOSSIP — BRIT Awards hopeful Mimi Webb wants to give people “goosebumps” like Adele does with her music.
The 22-year-old singer – who is in the running for Best New Artist at the BRIT Awards on Saturday (11.02.23) – is inspired by the ‘Easy On Me’ hitmaker and hopes her songs can spark as much of a reaction in people as her idol can.
She told The Sun newspaper: “I love opening up and being vulnerable and have people connect with my music. My fans speak to me about how my songs have helped them and their experiences and some of their stories are really ­emotional.
“I’ve always loved when you get goosebumps after listening to a singer like Adele and she’s really inspired me.
“I’d love to affect people in the same way. These songs are about my life and that means it’s not the best times, but many sad moments. But looking back makes me feel everything happened for a reason.”
The ‘Red Flags’ singer has enjoyed a whirlwind 12 months and admitted her BRITS nod has been one of the biggest highlights.
She reflected: “I’ve toured America, Australia and finishing the album was also a moment.
“Performing at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was also a ‘pinch me moment’ and then kickstarting the year with a nomination at the Brits is a massive highlight.”
But Mimi has also learned the importance of taking a break after becoming overwhelmed last year.
She said: “When I signed my record deal at 18 — four years ago — all I cared about was making sure everyone was happy. But now the main concern is me. I’ve grown as a person.
“At the end of last year, I had a bit of a situation where everything got on top of me.
“I get bad anxiety and I’d just finished my American tour and been away from home for a long, long time. When I got back to London I was straight back to work and it got too much.
“So, I started mindset coaching and learned how to control my thoughts more. Learning how powerful the brain is and having the strength to control it and dictate what goes on, helps.”
She has also been able to turn to her friend Tom Grennan for help.
She said: “Tom is like a brother to me. We are so supportive of one another and he’s been such a light. He’s really helped me when I started to suffer with anxiety. He’s given me great advice — he’s amazing.”

OHMYGOSSIP — DJ Khaled has joined Def Jam Recordings as he looks to take his career to the “next level”.
The 47-year-old DJ feels “blessed” after bringing his We the Best imprint to the record label, following his eight-year stint at Epic Records, and he cannot wait to “achieve greater heights”.
He said: “This new chapter marks a special time for me.
“The energy at this point in my career is at an all-time high and I’m grateful to Sir Lucian Grainge for allowing me to join his empire at this stage in my journey.
“Together, we will achieve even greater heights and take it to the next level.
“I feel blessed and so inspired with renewed energy.”
Rapper and producer Khaled was appointed the president of Def Jam South, a music division of Def Jam, in February 2009, before leaving in 2011.
He excited to “come back home” and is confident he and Def Jam can “make history” together.
Khaled added: “I’m excited to not only partner, but to come back home to Def Jam.
“Tunji Balogun is not only an extraordinary A and R, but a true music-man and visionary who continuously is responsible for introducing the world to some of its next greatest superstars.

Khaled has joined Def Jam in a joint venture with Universal Music Group, and he also been named Global Creative Consultant for UMG.
