Ringo Starr cancels rest of US tour after coming down with cold

OHMYGOSSIP — Ringo Starr has cancelled the remaining shows of his US tour due to illness.
The former Beatles drummer has come down with a cold and was forced to miss his concert in Philadelphia on Tuesday (24.09.24) and has also axed the Radio City Music Hall gig in New York City on Wednesday night (25.09.24).
A social media statement read: “Ringo has come down with a cold and after consulting a doctor he was advised to cancel these two remaining shows and get rest.
“As always, Ringo and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them soon.”
Refunds are being given to fans who had tickets for the two cancelled dates.
The 84-year-old musician and his All Starr Band kicked off the run on September 7 and played 10 shows in the States, with Ringo last onstage on September 22 in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Ringo released the EP ‘Crooked Boy’ in April – which features the Strokes’ guitarist Nick Valensi – and he explained how he asked songwriter and producer Linda Perry to pen more upbeat songs for the project.
He told Variety: “Even on ‘February Sky,’ it was all about the dark sky everywhere in February, so that’s an emotion in there. But I told her, ‘There’s gotta be a crack — a break in the sky — and the sun is coming out.’ Because all my songs have that. They can be ‘I’m down, I’m this, I’m that… But things are getting better, things are going up.’ They always have a positive upside.
“‘Rewind Forward’ [the title song of his previous EP, from 2023] was like that. ‘Rewind forward’ meant, sometimes you’re in a mood, and if you just backtrack a little and then find that (previous) space, and then carry on from that moment, it helps sometimes.”
Ringo also requested more rock songs.
He added: “I did. (At first) she wrote ‘Crooked Boy,’ and it was all about the story of my life — you know, I was ill, I was better, I found my own way.
“She sent me a couple of them, and then I called her and I said, ‘Linda, write me a rock song!’ And she says, ‘What’s that?’ I said, ‘I’ll leave it there. Just write me a rock song.’ And she did, of course, and it’s called ‘Gonna Need Need Someone’. And it did rock, and she put the band together, and then we did a video with the song playing and we are popping in and out.”

Billie Eilish learning to produce her own music without Finneas

OHMYGOSSIP — Billie Eilish has been learning how to produce her own music – without her brother Finneas.
The 22-year-old Grammy winner has always worked with her 27-year-old sibling – who co-writes and produces her output – but he’s recently set her up with a “basic” kit at her home studio so she can learn production herself.
Speaking to Guitar.com, Finneas said: “I’ve been setting up Billie’s recording studio for her so she can do home production without me, because she’s very good at it!
“And it’s funny, I’ve been giving her, like, the bare minimum of stuff, just so that she learns it all. Y’know what I mean? I’m like ‘Listen, I could give you all the stuff that I use now, but it took me years to even have a use for it. And, if I give you this basic thing, it’ll make sense to you right away.’”
Finneas setting his sister up to produce herself comes after they argued making her latest LP ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’.
The producer is not afraid to call out his sister if he’s not happy with the way their sessions are going and told her she wasn’t being “authentic” or “honest”.
During a recent appearance on YouTube show ‘Hot Ones Versus’, Finneas explained: “I think the longest, biggest argument was during a period of transition in maybe both of our lives where we were just trying to be kind of honest.
“To give [Billie] credit, I was very much high and mighty about, like, ‘You’re not being honest or authentic enough.’ So I learned a lot from being too egocentric in that process.”
Billie was also annoyed about her brother putting his bare feet on the sound desk, adding: “He’s a lot of times barefoot, a lot of the times in very filthy shoes … My face is right there [near the desk where his feet are]. And actually we filmed so much in making the album that almost all the footage is his feet and then me.”
The siblings previously opened up about the challenges they encountered making the record in an interview with Apple Music 1‘s Zane Lowe in May, with Finneas claiming Billie wasn’t being vulnerable enough.
He said: “I was like, ‘Subject-wise, I’m not being led into what you’re actually feeling, and I think that there are real guards up.'”
Finneas confessed he even reached a point when he considered walking away from music, and Billie revealed she understood exactly how he was feeling.
She said: “It was very interesting because I saw myself in that. I was like, ‘I have felt that way and you have always been the thing that keeps the ship moving, and now you feel that way. What does that mean for us? And what are we going to do?”

Shania Twain to make beeline for Shaboozey at People’s Choice Country Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Shania Twain is going to make a beeline for Shaboozey at the People’s Choice Country Awards.
The ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ hitmaker, 59, is hosting the awards ceremony at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry on Thursday (26.09.24), and the ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ hitmaker, 29, is presenting one of the prizes on the night, and she is eager to tell him in person how much his music makes her “smile”.
Asked which modern country stars she is a fan of, Shania told Taste of Country Nights: “New right now to the genre — Shaboozey. His music and his videos just make me smile.
“I just wanna be able to tell him that in person.”
She added: “One of the privileges that I have hosting the night, is this access that I have.
“I’m gonna make a point of, you know, just thanking him for exuding that kind of feel-good vibe.”
As well as presenting, Shaboozey – whose real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze – has been nominated for several prizes, including New Artist of 2024, Album of 2024 and Song of 2024, Male Song of 2024 and New Artist Song of 2024 for ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’.
Zach Bryan, 28, leads the nominations with 19, while Beyonce, 43, follows closely behind with 17 nods, following the release of her country album ‘Cowboy Carter’, including Overall People’s Artist of 2024, Female Artist of 2024 and the Album of 2024.
Meanwhile, Shania confessed she can get carried away when she’s handed a microphone and will likely end up “rambling” on the night.
She told The Boot of hosting: “I’m not the greatest reader.
“I’m a very spontaneous speaker and thinker, so if I get rambling, they might have to take the hook out and get me off the stage.”
She continued: “I think it’s gonna be more about adrenaline than nerves, you know, just feeling excited, building up to meeting artists that I haven’t met yet. I will say that the night’s gonna go by too quickly for me, that excitement might get me either speaking too quickly or too long. I think I’ll be more like a giddy child. I think that’s it, I don’t want to ramble on, you know?”

The Enemy and The Subways cover each other’s songs for charities

OHMYGOSSIP — The Enemy and The Subways have covered each other’s hits to raise money for homeless and mental health charities.
The noughties British indie rock bands are embarking on the ‘Indie Til I Die’ tour next month, and they have come up with a special way to raise awareness of World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day.
On October 10, The Enemy will release their version of The Subways’ 2005 tune ‘Rock and Roll Queen’, and the latter group will drop their rendition of 2007 classic ‘We’ll Live And Die In These Towns’ by The Enemy to raise funds for homeless charity Shelter and mental health non-profit Mind.
They are also selling a limited-edition half-and-half scarf for fans of both bands, and for every scarf sold, they will donate one to Shelter.
The Subways’ frontman Billy Lunn battled mental health issues growing up and came close to homelessness, so both charities are close to his heart.
He said: “Growing up with mental health issues and moving from one council house to the next, it nonetheless took me many years to realise just how entwined and circular the two are. The uncertainty I experienced in my living situation took its toll on my already troubled mind during its most formative years – and, had my family not been provided with the secure housing that we needed, I dread to think what might have become of my mental health situation.
“For those in much more precarious and dangerous circumstances, the struggles continue. It is for them that we must work towards positive change. I’m therefore thankful that World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day occur together, thereby emphasising the intersectionality of many social struggles, and the collaborative effort required to resolve them. With this in mind, it is with great pleasure that we come together with our good friends, The Enemy, to highlight the need for intersectional thinking and action with regard to resolving the multitudinous social issues we face. Because I believe rock ‘n’ roll can change the world for the better.”
Tom Clarke of The Enemy added: “Very pleased to announce that as part of the upcoming Indie Till I Die tour with The Subways, we have recorded a cover of ‘Rock and Roll Queen’, and The Subways have recorded a version of ‘We’ll Live And Die In These Towns’.
“Both tracks will be released in conjunction with World Homeless Day and World Mental Health Day, two issues which in my experience are inextricably linked, and obviously close to all of our hearts. The proceeds will go directly to Shelter, and Mind. It’s fantastic to be in a position to make a difference, however small. Thanks to everyone who buys a copy. We’re looking forward to seeing you at the shows!”
Remaining tickets for the tour, which also features The Holloways, are available via www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
The scarf is available for £17.50 via https://ilovealcopop.co.uk/collections/the-subways/products/the-enemy-x-the-subways-half-and-half-charity-scarf.
Fans will also be able to donate to the two charities at the concerts next month.

Demi Lovato writing ‘love songs’ for new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Demi Lovato is writing “nothing but love songs and sexy songs”.
The ‘Cool for the Summer’ hitmaker has confirmed she is working on the follow-up to 2022 album ‘Holy Fvck’ and while still “figuring out” her sound, the 32-year-old singer – who uses both female and gender neutral pronouns – admitted much of her material is positive because she’s in a “really good place”.
Speaking on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, Demi said: “It’s true. I’m working on new music. I’m kind of figuring out my sound right now.
“I don’t know when it’ll come out but it’ll come out when I’m ready.”
The host then asked his guest if it would be a max of “happy songs and sad songs” and they replied: “I tend to write from the place that I am in in the moment. Because it’s actually been like… it’s been amazing.
“I’ve been writing nothing but love songs and sexy songs because I’m in this really good place. It feels good to be able to write coming from that place.”
Demi recently gushed about having such a supportive partner in fiance Jordan ‘Jutes’ Lutes and admitted it was easy to “stay centred” with the musician by her side.
The ‘Confident’ hitmaker told People magazine: “You know, I’ve waited my whole life for him and to have him be a part of this just makes it that much more sweet…
“It’s very grounding to have a partner that is so supportive, so loving, so caring.
“And so, you know, it’s very easy to stay centered with him because I just — I love him so much and he treats me so amazing.”
But the couple aren’t ready to have children yet.
Demi explained to Teen Vogue magazine: “I’m not ready to give up my alone time with [Jordan].”

Janet Jackson has no career memorabilia at home

OHMYGOSSIP — Janet Jackson has “nothing” in her house that marks her career accomplishments.
The ‘Rhythm Nation’ hitmaker has won a string of awards and sold millions of records in her lengthy career but she keeps her accolades “in storage” and doesn’t even have any photos of herself in action.
She told the Guardian newspaper’s Saturday magazine: “You know what, I really don’t focus on that. I do what I do because I love it. I get so much fulfilment from it, but not one award is in my house, nor has there ever been.”
Asked where her platinum discs are, she added: “It sounds so bad, but they’re all in storage.
“Nothing in my house is to do with entertainment and me. No shot of me performing, none of that, just photographs of me with my baby and family … Mind you, growing up in my parents’ house with my brothers, all across the walls there were the gold albums. The platinum albums. The covers.
“Maybe that’s why? Not to rebel against it, just … I grew up with this. I don’t need to do this.”
The 58-year-old singer – who has seven-year-old son Eissa with ex-husband Wissam Al Mana – insisted she isn’t “embarrassed” by her success but she doesn’t need to constantly seek validation.
She said: “I don’t find it corny. It’s not even embarrassment.
“I just don’t need that to make me who I am. I don’t need to walk by and look at that every day and say, ‘You know what? I did that!’ That was my job.
“And I loved it. I know I have five Grammys. I know there’s an Oscar nomination. I know I sold 180m records.”
Janet is currently on her ‘Together Again’ European tour and she deliberately named it after her 1997 hit single because that was such a “fun” time for her.
She said: “I look back at all of it, but the 90s era and when I was a kid, that was the most fun. The whole 90s era, you never thought back then that it would come back around like this.
“I just think it’s so awesome for me to be here and experience the kids wearing the low-rise pants again, all the looks.”

I Can’t Explain why I’m a Swiftie… The Who’s Pete Townshend admires Taylor Swift

OHMYGOSSIP — The Who guitarist Pete Townshend is a fan of Taylor Swift.
The 79-year rock legend admits he enjoys Taylor’s music and respects her dedication to writing and performing, with the pop superstar releasing 11 studio albums by the age of 34.
Outing himself as a Swiftie on the ‘What It Takes’ podcast, he said: “I’m a song dreamer in a sense. So I love the great songwriters of my father’s era, Gershwin and so on. And also the great songwriters of today, past The Beatles and all the rest of them to Taylor Swift. I love what she does, too. Not that she’s necessarily absolutely always to my taste, but I just love the fact that she seems to love it, that she seems to be having so much fun. That’s what I identify with.”
Earlier in 2024, Pete congratulated Taylor for the success she has had on her ‘Eras Tour’.
The ‘Won’t Fooled Again’ rocker – who is joined in The Who by singer Roger Daltrey – praised the ‘I Can Do It With a Broken Heart’ hitmaker for creating “really safe” space for her fans to enjoy her songs live.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, he said: “I think what’s happening with the Taylor Swift events, for example, she’s created a place where people feel really, really, really safe.
“And what I think was happening in the ’60s – the late 60s, early 70s – was a discovery that it was safe to blend a music event, to allow yourself to unfold, to relax into the mood of the event. It could be that it was heavy music like Led Zeppelin, or parts of what The Who were doing. But it could also be the gentleness of great R’n’B like Sly and the Family Stone, but also more gentle music like Joni Mitchell, like Crosby Stills and Nash. There was a cross-section of music which, brought together in festival events, had the effect of making people feel together.”

Suki Waterhouse is trying to get her baby daughter to love music: ‘She’s into Fleetwood Mac…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Suki Waterhouse is trying to encourage her daughter to love music.
The 32-year-old singer – who has recently released her second album ‘Memoir of a Sparklemuffin’ – has a six month old with ‘Twilight’ star Robert Pattinson and is hopeful that she will take up an interest in classical music in years to come.
Speaking on the ‘Broken Record’ podcast, she explained: “I’m playing her a lot of music. She’s into Fleetwood Mac. I play her ‘Layla’ by Eric Clapton because
my mum used to play that for me a lot. And then Mozart Baby because I’m just like if she listens to Mozart, she’s going to be a genius.
“And playing piano we both play piano. That’s really sweet to see her watch that.”
The ‘Good Looking’ hitmaker – who has not revealed the name of her daughter to the public yet – also revealed that she is planning to take the little one on tour with her and has found that parenthood is the “best excuse ever” for slowing down in life and saying no to various things.
She said: “I love being a parent now. It feels like unlocking a key to this little secret love club.
“It’s also the best excuse ever for streamlining your life. Not running around as much. It helps you have that bedrock because you can’t just take off and go everywhere.
“It keeps me grounded to a place more, which after a long time of moving so much, I’m really happy for. “I’m going on tour she’s just coming with me.”
Suki recently admitted that she felt as if she had “so much to prove” with her debut album and now that she has conquered that, she is going to take a more relaxed approach to her career from now on.
She told NME: “The first record I did, I had so much to prove, and I kept it one world specifically because I was just putting my toe in and being like, ‘Is this even acceptable? Am I even allowed to do this?’ Putting that record together was the bravest thing I’ve ever done in a lot of ways. Everything since has been like an insane rollercoaster.
“I would have been so happy just making one record – that was the biggest dream ever for a decade. So everything from here just feels like, ‘I’m just going to have fun and do whatever I want’.”

‘I told my parents that I needed to learn how to play the guitar because of that…’ James Bay reveals song that inspired his music

OHMYGOSSIP — James Bay says Eric Clapton’s ‘Layla’ was the song that inspired him to become a guitarist.
The 34-year-old musician can recall hearing the iconic opening riff to the 1970s rock song – which Clapton recorded with his former band Derek and the Dominos – at his family home when he was 11 years old.
James’ dad had been playing the record and he rushed downstairs to listen to the song and immediately informed his parents Nick and Jill that he had to learn the guitar.
In an interview with TheLINEofBESTFIT.com, he said: “It’s stunning. I remember the first time I heard it. I was in my bedroom, which was at the top of the stairs in my parents’ house. My dad was playing the record downstairs, and I heard that iconic riff. I came downstairs and listened to the whole thing.
“I was 11 and, with that grandiose 11-year-old energy, I told my parents that I needed to learn how to play the guitar because of that song. It played a massive part in why I even picked up a guitar, because at that age, when you’re changing so much, things mean more to you. ‘Layla’ made me feel like I was tapping into something timeless, even though it was 2002.
“‘Layla’ is not just a great riff; it’s a great song overall. I’ve watched countless documentaries about its recording. I love Tom Hanks’ take on it from Desert Island Discs. He listens to ‘Layla’ and just marvels at it. It’s one of those rock and roll records that will always turn you on, like Chuck Berry’s ‘Johnny B. Goode’.
Bay was surprised to learn from Ed Sheeran when they toured together that ‘Layla’ was also the song that inspired him to play guitar, and the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker was exactly the same age when he first heard Clapton’s masterpiece.
The ‘Hold Back the River’ singer shared: “It’s interesting – I went on tour with Ed in 2019, we were having a break, playing football, and he turned to me and asked, ‘Why did you pick up a guitar?’ And I told him the same story I told you. He’s the same school year as me, just six months younger, and he said he also was 11 and heard ‘Layla’ and knew he had to pick up a guitar and learn how to play.
Bay – who is just about to release his fourth studio LP ‘Changes All the Time’ – admits 23 years after he first ever heard ‘Layla’ it still gives him a thrill when he hears that riff.
He said: “I don’t listen to ‘Layla’ every day, but it’s special whenever I do. The sound of that riff is just incredible. Seeing my dad react to it is cool because he loved it for 30 years before I even heard it. There’s something beautiful about that continuity.”

Iconic Isle of Wight Festival duet between Amy Winehouse and The Rolling Stones almost never happened

OHMYGOSSIP — Amy Winehouse initially refused the offer to duet with The Rolling Stones at the Isle of Wight Festival, concert promoter John Giddings has revealed.
The late ‘Back to Black’ singer – who tragically passed away in September 2011 at the age of just 27 – produced one of the event’s most iconic moments when she joined Sir Mick Jagger and his bandmates on stage back in 2007 for a rendition of ‘Ain’t Too Proud To Beg’.
The collaboration was masterminded by John – the man behind the British festival since its revival in 2002 – who got Mick to agree to it first only to be stunned when he pitched the idea to Amy and she initially told him she would be too nervous to do it.
Speaking at the launch of the Isle of Wight Festival exhibition Experience 25 at The O2 in London on Wednesday night (18.09.24), he said: “In 2007 I came up with the idea of putting Amy Winehouse onstage with The Rolling Stones. I thought the hardest bit would be to get Mick Jagger to let Amy up there. So I went to him and he jumped at the opportunity… but then I went to Amy who said she could never do it; she was too nervous! It took me about half an hour to persuade her to do it but when you see the result of it … it was amazing.”
The duet was voted as one of the top five Most Magic Moments at the Isle of Wight Festival.
The competition allowed festival goers to vote for their favourite moment in the festival’s history.
Amy and The Rolling Stones on stage together was voted at number four, while David Bowie took the top spot for his final UK performance which happened at the Isle of Wight Festival in the summer of 2004.
John, 71, was joined at the exhibition launch by Ray Foulk, who created the original events that took place between 1968 and 1970.
Joining John to share his memories of the Isle of Wight festival, Ray spoke about how Bob Dylan’s headline appearance in 1969 was the moment that made the event culturally significant.
Addressing guests, Ray said: “There’s another guy who was far more important than any of us, that made all this possible, without whom none of this would have happened. A certain gentleman who was living in Woodstock at the time, otherwise known as Robert Zimmerman who became Bob Dylan.
“Bob Dylan is a name that is very often forgotten about these days when you think about the great stars that we’ve been looking at today. It was Dylan coming to the Isle of Wight that made this thing possible. Without Bob Dylan coming in 1969 I don’t think there would have been another Isle of Wight Festival. Of course, once we got him under contract it was like winning the lottery.
“Now you imagine today, to put it in perspective, if some young guys of 23 and 24 were putting on a festival in a field somewhere and they were looking for artists and they managed to sign Taylor Swift, what would happen then? It was a bit like that. It’s very hard to imagine how important it was at that time that Dylan came and got this thing kicked off in the way that he did.”
The exhibition celebrates the festival’s entire iconic history with an incredible archive of images and footage on display featuring Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Winehouse, Joni Mitchell and many more.
Experience 25 is open from 19th September – 13th November 2024 at The O2’s Innovation Centre.

New Kids On The Block announce Las Vegas residency

OHMYGOSSIP — New Kids On The Block are heading to Las Vegas to play their first ever residency.
The pop group will head to Sin City next summer to kick off a series of shows at the Dolby Live at Park MGM with ‘The Right Stuff’ concerts scheduled to take place in two blocks from June 20 until July 5 and again from November 1 until November 15.
Bandmember Donnie Wahlberg said in a statement: “We cherish every opportunity that we get to perform for our fans, but a Las Vegas residency gives us an opportunity to take our performance, and interaction with our fans, to the next level …
“We plan on maximising everything that the amazing Dolby Live at Park MGM has to offer, to create the most incredible NKOTB concert ever.
“As well as everything that Las Vegas has to offer – to create multiple events to directly engage with our fans. Las Vegas will never be the same after the New Kids and the Blockheads take over the town.”
The band announced the news at a fan event in Las Vegas on Thursday (19.09.24) ahead of a planned performance at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Festival on Saturday (21.09.24).
Tickets for the Las Vegas shows go on sale on September 27.

Wahlberg previously said of the album: “It’s the most mature album we’ve ever made. Yet it’s the most fun and most comfortable album we’ve ever made.
“This album, more than any other, is bringing the New Kids and the fans full circle. It’s about hope and possibilities and being ourselves.”

Chester Bennington’s mom upset by Linkin Park plans

OHMYGOSSIP — Chester Bennington’s mother feels “betrayed” by Linkin Park’s new line-up.
The group recently revealed they were back together but with Emily Armstrong on vocals and Colin Brittain on drums in place of Rob Bourdon, and the news left Susan Eubanks “very upset” as she claimed the band had always promised to keep her informed about anything they planned to do after her son took his own life in 2017.
She wrote in an essay for Rolling Stone magazine: “I feel betrayed. They told me that if they were ever going to do something, they would let me know. They didn’t let me know, and they probably knew that I [wasn’t] going to be very happy. I’m very upset about it.”
Susan accused the band of trying to “erase the past”.
She added: “I feel like they’re trying very hard to erase the past. They’re performing songs that Chester sang. And I don’t know how the fans are taking it, but I know how I take it. And having [Armstrong] singing my son’s songs is hurtful.
“They said they would let the family know if they were going to reunite. They did not. [Chester’s first wife] Samantha and [son] Draven didn’t know until it was told to the world. It was the same for me and it hurt.”
Sarah claimed Mike Shinoda had often wanted to replace Chester with a female vocalist.
She wrote: “Mike told Chester one time that he thought singing these songs would be better with a girl, because he often put Chester down. And Chester called me and said, ‘He thinks that they’re going to replace me with a girl.’ And I said, ‘What do you mean?’ And he said Mike told him at rehearsal that, ‘If you decide you’re leaving, we’re going to replace you with a girl.’ And Chester was dumbfounded and hurt.
“And the fact is that now they did it. So, of course, all that comes right back into my mind. I had a talk with my son about this. I didn’t think they’d probably do it.”
The matriarch insisted she “would’ve been OK” with the group reuniting and having Mike as the only singer.
She added: “But I’m not OK with this, to have somebody replace him and try to do what he did. I don’t think that there’s anybody in the world that has the same voice. And when I heard that, I was just so repelled that no, they’re trying to do exactly what Chester did, but they’re not succeeding at it.”
And Susan urged the band not to use any material left by her son in their new era.
She concluded: “If I could tell the band members anything it’s that I feel betrayed. You made a promise to me that you would let us know and you didn’t. If you were going to do this, this is the wrong way to do it.
“Don’t put [Emily Armstrong] out there to sing Chester’s songs and then act like this was always the way it should have been. It’s like making him go away, erasing the past.
“You don’t have to worry about going through the old songs and finding new ones, new Chester songs to put out. Now you can just put out new songs. But don’t bother to put out Chester’s songs with Emily singing them.”

Isle of Wight festival boss John Giddings defends Oasis after reunion ticket furore

OHMYGOSSIP — Isle of Wight Festival boss John Giddings has come to the defence of Oasis after the ticketing row for their reunion gigs.
The ‘Supersonic’ rockers came under fire for the “dynamic pricing” that saw fans paying big money for the band’s first shows together in 16 years next summer but Giddings felt that Noel and Liam Gallagher needed to compensate for the costs that come with putting on a show.
Speaking at Experience 25 – an exhibition to mark 25 years of the Isle of Wight Festival – John is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “I think that they expected a big demand, I don’t think they expected more than 10 million people to apply for over a million tickets.
“What people don’t realise, what the general public don’t appreciate, is that within a ticket price 20 per cent of it goes to the government in VAT before you begin.
“It’s ten times more expensive to put on shows since Covid, since Brexit, since all of that, and artists want to present a show. The back screen, the fireworks and everything going off with it.
“That’s what audiences want because we can see by the number of tickets they’re buying. People vote with their feet – if they don’t want to come then we’re all dead in the water.”
Fans expressed their disappointment at Ticketmaster’s use of “dynamic pricing” but Liam made light of the situation by joking that his mother Peggy Gallagher was unable to get a ticket.
A user on social media platform X asked Liam what Peggy thinks of the Oasis reunion, he replied: “She’s gutted she couldn’t get a ticket.”
The 51-year-old musician also joked that he and his brother Noel, 57, will be returning with the same bad attitude they were labelled with during the group’s 1990s pomp.

Katy Perry aimed to create a ‘celebratory’ feel to her new album 143

OHMYGOSSIP — Katy Perry set out to create a “celebratory” feel with her new album ‘143’.
The ‘Lifetimes’ hitmaker’s latest record was released on Friday (20.09.24) and wants to evoke feelings of a “nonstop party” for those listening to her new material.
Katy told ‘The Zane Lowe Show’ on Apple Music 1: “With this new record going out, the energy that I am hoping to create is celebratory, is freedom. Is freedom to be yourself, freedom to be sweaty, freedom to dance with a stranger.
“We used to live as tribes, we used to live in communes. We don’t have that as much anymore and you do get to experience that when you are in a live setting, you’re literally standing or sitting next to a person you’ve never met in your life, and you catch a lyric with them and they’re in your face, they’re connecting with you, and all of a sudden you don’t feel so alone. There’s that oneness feeling that’s so great about performing live.
“And what I hope to do with ‘143’ is just a continual, nonstop party. Everyone’s invited, doesn’t matter who you are, eight to 80 all over the world. And that’s the kind of music I wanted to create for that live event. I think I’m having the most fun in my life.”
Katy explained that ‘143’ is the first album she has released in her career from a position of personal and professional contentment.
The 39-year-old singer – who has daughter Daisy, four, with her fiance Orlando Bloom – said: “When I was going through ‘One of the Boys’, which was, whoa, it was like, oh my God, hold on to this ride.
“And then ‘Teenage Dream’ and ‘Prism’, my personal life was not really working. My professional life was working. And then when ‘Witness’ shifted everything, it started to come more into balance and then ‘Smile’ really solidified it.”
The ‘Woman’s World’ songstress continued: “And now ‘143’ is a celebration of feeling that wholeness, operating out of that wholeness, which is a space I’ve never written a record from.
“I’ve always written a record from defence or not feeling enough or trying to transmute my trauma, whatever that was, and to change it. I always say this is the biggest lie I think artists have ever been sold is that they have to stay in pain in order to create.”

Nelly Furtado: Maneater made a speaker go up in flames

OHMYGOSSIP — Nelly Furtado set a speaker on fire when recording her song ‘Maneater’.
The 45-year-old singer has recalled how flames burst out of the speaker as she recorded her 2006 hit when a beat got “played super loud” by producer Timbaland.
Speaking to The Guardian newspaper, Nelly recalled: “It was my first day working on (the album) ‘Loose’ with Timbaland and Danja. We were in Miami. Timbaland said: ‘I made this beat for you’ and played it super loud.
“Suddenly I smelled burning, there was all this smoke and a flame shot out of the speaker. Someone came to replace the speaker but it freaked us out: maybe we should put this song away till tomorrow. And we worked on a different song.
“It was a super weird start to ‘Maneater’, but a great start to the album.”
Nelly also revealed that she has a basic technique for writing songs where she records “whatever comes out of my mouth”.
The ‘I’m Like a Bird’ artist explained: “I turn the mic on and then it’s just whatever comes out of my mouth. Usually a lyric and melody comes together or sometimes I just mumble until a melody and rhythm emerges.
“It’s like a fusion of rapping and singing, but I always press record otherwise I forget what comes out. Sometimes I jam for hours and go back and pick bits or sometimes it comes in the first five minutes.”
Meanwhile, Nelly revealed that she dreams of singing her track ‘All Good Things (Come to an End)’ live with Chris Martin after she penned the song together with the Coldplay frontman.
She said: “When I sing I’m super-internalised and kinda tripping out. I like to make people feel they can join in with that.
“My dream is to sing it live with Chris or Coldplay. That would be so cool.”

Maneskin are not splitting up despite launching solo projects

OHMYGOSSIP — Måneskin “are not done” after frontman Damiano David and bassist Victoria De Angelis unveiled their solo projects.
Fans were concerned after the two members of the 2021 Eurovision-winning group – completed by Thomas Raggi and Ethan Torchio – announced their side projects, but it doesn’t spell the end of the ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave’ group.
Victoria, who released her debut solo single, ‘GET UP B****! (Shake Ya A**)’, last week, told NME: “We just finished our tour a couple of weeks ago and it went amazing so now we are just having a little ‘chill moment’ but of course, we are not done.”
The tune features Brazilian pop Anitta.
On how it came about, Victoria recounted: “I just sent her the demo I made and I was like, ‘I have this track, I think it would be sick to have you on it’, and she sent me the track after one week.
“I was on a plane downloading it with the little Wi-Fi that I bought and I was like, ‘Ahh’, shaking my a** on the plane. I love Anitta, she’s so bada** so it was the perfect collaboration.”
Damiano also teased his own project, which fans will hear on September 27.
Speaking to Billboard this week, he teased: “[It’s] Something I’ve been working on for a lot of time and I am very proud of so I really can’t wait for the day to come.”
In a dramatic trailer on social media narrated by the singer as he rides in the back of a car, he says: “My name is Damiano David. I was born in 1999, Rome, Italy. I love music, arts and women. I love the feeling of beautiful clothes and the smell of a nice perfume. In my life I’ve been a thief, a liar, a lover, a shapeshifter.
“I travelled all around the world to find my voice, just to end up where everything’s started. My name is Damiano David and today is the first day of my life.”
