Perry Farrell seeking medical help after onstage bust-up

OHMYGOSSIP — Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell is seeking medical treatment following his onstage bust-up with Dave Navarro.
The band’s gig in Boston on September 13 came to an abrupt end after Farrell, 65, appeared to throw a punch at his bandmate during a heated confrontation in front of the audience, and the band went on to scrap the rest of their tour – and now Farrell’s wife Etty Lau Farrell has revealed the singer has booked appointments with a neurologist and an ear, nose and throat specialist.
In a post on Instagram, Etty explained: “As you know, Perry is the gentlest of souls. We are equally astonished at Perry’s physical outburst as you are – but you must know that Perry must had been pushed to his absolute limit.. to that end we apologise.
“We are taking a bit of time to ourselves, to reflect and to heal. Perry already has appointments with a otolaryngologist and a neurologist. If you know and love Perry well, you know there’s no need for me to address the other false narratives. Our souls know.”
She added: “With all of your love, kindness, compassion and support, you know, Perry will persevere.. He will recover. He will be happy again. He will once again be able to share his music, vision and artistry – unbridled.
“Make no mistake when he’s ready he will take another giant leap over obstacles to make us laugh, think, while changing the world together.
“We can rejoice together then. And you will know, we would not have been able to do it without you.”
It comes after Jane’s Addiction scrapped the rest of their North American tour dates and Farrell apologised for his “inexcusable behaviour”.
In a statement on his Instagram Story, the singer wrote: “This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only that I apologise to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show.
“Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behaviour, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”
It came just hours after the band announced they had decided to scrap the rest of their tour. A statement on Dave’s Instagram account – signed by the guitarist and his bandmates Eric Avery and Stephen Merkins – read: “Due to a continuing pattern of behaviour and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell, we have come to the conclusion that we have no choice but to discontinue the current US tour.
“Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs. (sic) …
“We deeply regret that we are not able to come through for all our fans who have already bought tickets.
“We can see no solution that would either ensure a safe environment on stage or reliably allow us to deliver a great performance on a nightly basis. “Our hearts are broken. Dave, Eric and Stephen. (sic)”
The band was scheduled to play another 12 concerts across the US and Canada in coming weeks.

Liam Gallagher slams ‘imposters’ who criticised his Wembley vocals

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has ripped into critics of his vocals during his performance at Wembley Stadium at the weekend.
The Oasis rocker performed for the first time since the ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’ rockers announced their reunion tour at the heavyweight boxing fight between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua on Saturday (21.09.24) and took to social media to issue a foul-mouthed tirade at those criticising his “angelic tones”.
Liam posted on X: “To all those s******** who were crying about my ANGELIC TONES last night you ain’t real fans you’re just IMPOSTERS.”
The 52-year-old star also suggested that those with Oasis tickets for next summer who complained about his vocals are welcome to give them back.
Liam wrote: “And if you do have tickets you wanna get rid of I’ll gladly take them off your hands. We don’t want the likes of you at our concerts next year anyway.”
He also posted a painting of a bird accompanied by a message that said: “You will not stop me from singing my song.
“I will sing it forever.”
Oasis announced their long-awaited reunion last month after 15 years of feuding between Liam and his older brother Noel Gallagher and the ‘Everything’s Electric’ singer explained that he made the first move to set the wheels in motion for the return of the Britpop icons.
Asked “what’s happening” with him and Noel, Liam told a fan on X, formerly Twitter: “Rite so we’re in this band called oasis decent he’s a guitarist I’m the singer and we’re gonna do some gigs nxt year hope that’s cleared things up (sic)”
He was then asked who called who first, and replied: “I called him but don’t tell anyone as I do t wont folk thinking I’m a soft lad and stuffs keep it between me n you cheers x (sic)”

The Cure to release new single Alone this week

OHMYGOSSIP — The Cure will release their new single ‘Alone’ later this week.
The ‘Friday I’m in Love’ band have revealed that the first song from their long-awaited new album ‘Songs Of A Lost World’ will be released on Thursday (26.09.24).
‘Alone’ will have its first play on Mary Anne Hobbs’s show on BBC Radio 6 Music between 10.30am and 1pm on the day – with further details about the album also set to be disclosed.
‘Songs Of A Lost World’ will be The Cure’s first album in 16 years and a release date of November 1 was seemingly confirmed recently via postcards.
Fans of the ‘Lovecats’ hitmakers received a black postcard with the letters of the record’s title scattered across it and the date of November 1 in Roman numerals.
The post-punk rockers also swapped out their old profile picture for a new logo on their social media pages with fans directed to the band’s website to sign up to their mailing list.
Frontman Robert Smith previously revealed that the band were working on two distinct records – one of which is ‘Songs Of A Lost World’.
Speaking to NME, the 65-year-old artist said: “So I’ve been working on two Cure albums, and one of them is finished.
“Unfortunately, it’s the second one that’s finished. [On the other] I’ve got to do four vocals, and there are 10 songs on each album. We’re mixing next month on April 1, so I’ve got three weeks left.
“I know what it’s called – it’s called ‘Songs Of The Lost World’. It’s got artwork, it’s got a running order, it’s almost done! They’re so slow because of vinyl, but it might come in September. I’d rather it just came out. I can’t stand the anticipation.”

‘The best band out there at the moment’: Sir Elton John lauds Fontaines D.C.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Elton John has hailed Fontaines D.C. as “the best band out there at the moment”.
The 77-year-old music icon conducted an interview with Fontaines frontman Grian Chatten for the latest edition of his Apple Music ‘Rocket Hour’ show and had high praise for the Irish band and their latest album ‘Romance’.
Elton said: “For me, you’re the best band out there at the moment.
“Having watched you at Glastonbury, having heard the new album, you’ve just grown every album. You seem to have found your feet with this album in such a big way… it’s a brilliant record.”
The ‘I’m Still Standing’ singer continued: “I think this album takes you – and I’ve been around for a long time – to a different level, and it’s going to stay around for a long, long time.
“But what’s more important about it: the music is really, really, really special. Congratulations on everything, Grian. It’s bloody wonderful.”
Chatten previously revealed how the ‘Starburster’ band deliberately set out to surprise fans with their latest album – which was acclaimed by critics when it was released in August.
The 29-year-old musician told NME: “To be creatively understood by too many people feels like flies settling all over your clothes and all over your face. Every now and again you have to f****** shake them off, just to see who you are again. That’s what we wanted to do.
“We spoke a lot about visual references, films and stuff like that. I’m not even messing, but we used to speak about: ‘What kind of weather is it in this song?’
“We could meet on a plain that didn’t have anything to do with music, arrangements or instruments. It’s more about abstractly getting to the right place. I think it’s more interesting to work in that way because you’re at less danger of sounding contrived or unoriginal.”

Shania Twain musical set to hit the stage in 2025

OHMYGOSSIP — A musical featuring the hits of Shania Twain is in production.
The new project will feature the 59-year-old star’s biggest songs – including ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ and ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman!’ – and it is hoped that will be opening on stage in late 2025.
The production is said to be similar in tone to ABBA’s ‘Mamma Mia!’ musical, meaning a story is likely to be told through Shania’s songs.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It’s been a long time coming but the Shania musical is finally happening.
“The script has been completed and it’s now moved into the developmental stage, with discussions about staging and costumes.
“Rather than being about herself, the musical follows ABBA’s ‘Mamma Mia!’ which tells a story using their music.
“Shania is thrilled it’s been given the green light.”
The insider continued: “It’s being produced by Eliza Lumley Productions. Eliza was in the original ‘Mamma Mia’ cast and worked at Shania’s label Universal for almost a decade.”
Shania previously teased the prospect of a musical featuring her tunes a couple of years ago.
She said: “There’s all sorts of things coming up but things I probably can’t talk about right now. But I’ve got a very busy few years ahead of me.”
Twain played in the Sunday afternoon legends slot at the Glastonbury Festival earlier this year and described her Worthy Farm performance as a “real wow moment in my career”.
She told Greatest Hits Radio: “It’s a wow. A real wow moment in my career. It’s such a one of a kind. The closer it comes, the more everybody tells me about it in their own individual stories as well their own experiences. Everyone seems to be such a dedicated fan of the festival, it sounds as though it’s a very bonding experience for everybody.
“It’s an event where everybody bonds over whether it’s great weather or bad weather or whatever it is that’s happening so I think it’s more than just a music festival, it’s a community gathering, a stamp, an annual stamp that everyone experiences.”

Kesha launches record label with plans for new album in 2025

OHMYGOSSIP — Kesha has announced her own record label with plans for a new album in 2025.
The ‘Tik Tok’ hitmaker – who had been signed to RCA and Kemosabe Records for years – is launching her own Kesha Records in partnership with ADA, who will handle global distribution.
This marks her first distribution deal, as well as the first time Kesha has ownership and creative control of her own music.
She said in a statement: “I am proud to announce this partnership for the distribution of my music through Kesha Records.
“My name has become synonymous with transparency, integrity, and safety, and I want to ensure that these values are upheld for myself and any future artists signed to my label.
“Music has the power to connect the world, and I aspire for my work to be a beacon of light and goodness.
“I am excited to take control of my narrative and rewrite my story in the music business.”
Her new album will drop next year, with ADA and Crush Music working together to oversee marketing and promotion for the collection.
Cat Kreidich, ADA president, said: “Since the start of her career, Kesha’s authenticity has distinguished her as a true artist whose vibrant self-expression resonates strongly with her fans.
“We believe ADA is the ideal home for her, and we’re honored and committed to supporting Kesha as an independent artist while maintaining her creative integrity and unapologetic bold-spirit.”
The ‘Joyride’ singer – whose recent single marked her first as an independent artist – split from Kemosabe and Vector Management in December last year, six months after settling lawsuits with former producer and label owner Dr. Luke.
Her 2023 record ‘Gag Order’ was the last LP to come as part of her Kemosabe and RCa deal.
Back in March she wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “First day I’ve owned my voice in 19 years. Welcome.”

Robbie Williams turns down Las Vegas residency: ‘Bosses are absolutely gutted…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams has reportedly turned down a Las Vegas residency.
The 50-year-old pop star has enjoyed a hugely successful solo career since leaving Take That in 1995 but is said to have left organisers the Voltaire “absolutely gutted” after rejecting a big money offer for a stint at Voltaire.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Robbie is admired by the Voltaire team professionally and personally.
“They love his music and stage craft and thought that his super stage personality and charisma seemed to be the perfect fit for them. But when they packaged up the offer, Rob turned them down.
“They were absolutely gutted as the tickets would have sold out immediately. But Robbie seems to be wanting to take a more careful approach to what he does next.”
If Robbie had accepted the offer, he would have taken the slot recently played by Kylie Minogue, who he collaborated with on the 2000 hit ‘Kids’ from his album ‘Sing When You’re Winning’.
She is thought to have earned £750,000 per show for her ‘More Than Just A Residency’ concert, which came after she enjoyed renewed success in the US with her hit single ‘Padam Padam’ and subsequent album ‘Tension’.
Other stars to have graced the Sin City strip over the years include Britney Spears, who played her ‘Piece of Me’ show in the city from 2013 until 2017 for a reported $300,000 per night, whilst Adele is currently thought to be raking in an estimated $1.5 million per show for her ‘Weekends With Adele’, from which she is currently on a short break.
The ‘Angels’ hitmaker recently admitted that he had never really had the chance to crack the US, and had sought anonymity there after enjoying such a public career in his home country, although he is hopeful that success across the pond may come one day.
He said: “I am completely anonymous in America, and I didn’t plan to change it until now. Now I’m kind of desperate for that to change. I moved so I could be Bruce Wayne in America and Batman everywhere else.
“It worked for me because there were periods in my life which were pretty risqué. I needed a place to retreat and not be known, and I got that.”
“But now I’m old and wise enough to want the experience of incredible success again. And maybe that would be in America.”

Outlaws rocker Freddie Salem dies aged 70

OHMYGOSSIP — Outlaws guitarist Freddie Salem has died at the age of 70.
The rocker’s passing from “complications due to cancer” was announced on his Facebook page on Monday (23.09.24).
The post read: “This morning, the heavens parted for the arrival of a legend. Rock on high, Freddie Salem. Until we meet again.”
Freddie was a member of the Outlaws between 1977 and 1983 and the ‘There Goes Another Love Song’ group paid a tribute of their own on social media.
The band posted: “It’s with a heavy heart that we have to tell Outlaws fans about the passing of our former guitarist Freddie Salem. Freddie passed from complications due to cancer and will be remembered for his outgoing personality and passion for music.
“He first appeared with the Outlaws on the album ‘Playin’ to Win’ and then remained in the band for the following four albums. He was an electric performer and beloved musician and he will be missed.”
Salem helped Outlaws write songs including ‘White Horses’, ‘Long Gone’ and ‘Devil’s Road’ and once described how he “brought a harder rock edge to the band”.
He told Road to Jacksonville: “I definitely brought a harder rock edge to the band.
“At the time, I believe they were ready for the change. I never forgot that (singer and guitarist) Billy (Jones) and (guitarist) Hughie (Thomasson) were the nucleus of the Outlaws. We couldn’t change that but just enhance it with a more aggressive approach. It paid off.”
Freddie went on to have a lengthy career as a session musician and producer following his Outlaws departure but warned aspiring guitarists to avoid the profession.
Asked to give advice to aspiring rockers, he said: “Go to medical or law school. It’s a (tough) road out there. I see it daily.”

Suki Waterhouse takes ‘control’ with new song Model, Actress, Whatever

OHMYGOSSIP — Suki Waterhouse wanted to “control the narrative” on her new song ‘Model, Actress, Whatever’.
The 32-year-old star’s latest track takes a shot at Hollywood and she explained that it originated from a desire not to limit herself as she has released music following her previous work in the fields of modelling and acting.
Suki told NME: “It’s me taking control of that narrative in some way. I have so much belief in not silencing yourself, not quietening yourself and going in the opposite direction and making it into art.
“I wanted to imbue the video with a lot of humour because, well, it’s funny. I wanted to make a song called ‘Model, Actress, Whatever’ and hear that on the radio or something – ‘Suki Waterhouse, model, actress, whatever’. There’s a release and a freedom in taking the p*** out of yourself a little bit.”
Suki’s album ‘Memoir of a Sparklemuffin’ was released earlier this month and she revealed that she had to rush to complete the record at her Los Angeles home before she welcomed a daughter with her fiance, ‘Twilight’ actor Robert Pattinson, earlier this year.
The ‘My Fun’ artist said: “The beautiful thing about making this record was that I had this very physical deadline – not just one where it’s like, ‘You should turn it in then’, but a very physical one.
“That was something I really leaned into with this project, and not being able to leave my living room for a couple of months was probably the best thing for it.”
Waterhouse detailed how the fact that her life was about to change forever served as inspiration for material on the LP.
The ‘Daisy Jones and the Six’ star said: “You’re very inspired by that time limitation and knowing that your world is about to become completely different.
“You’ve got a certain amount of time where you know it’s just going to be you before becoming a mother. All of the anticipation around that all felt really inspiring.”

Gaz Coombes: Alright success surprised Supergrass

OHMYGOSSIP — Gaz Coombes says that Supergrass were “taken aback” by the success of their song ‘Alright’.
The 1995 track proved to be an international hit and the 48-year-old musician admits that the band had no idea that the “kooky” song would take off in the manner that it did.
Speaking to NME, Gaz said: “It’s a single that hit so hard in the summer of ’95. We had no idea that was going to happen. We’d made a punk album, we were 19, and then we had a massive hit. We couldn’t complain.
“We loved ‘Alright’ and thought it was quite a kooky and weird little track, so we were quite taken aback by how massive it became.”
Supergrass recently confirmed that they will be reuniting for a May 2025 tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of their debut album ‘I Should Coco’ and Gaz wanted to “mark a beautiful moment” through the shows.
He explained: “I’m not really into nostalgia; I just think it’s important to mark a beautiful moment, and that was ‘I Should Coco’. Plus 30 years is a big one, and this could be the only time we get to do it.”
The recent Oasis reunion announcement led to a battle of generations in the scramble for tickets and Gaz has noticed a similar theme in the audiences for Supergrass gigs.
He said: “It’s all quite funny, isn’t it? People quite precious about what it means to them. But it’s a great meeting of generations, isn’t it? Our generation have had kids and they’re now in their mid-to-late teens. My daughter is 16 and loves Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac, The Clash and ‘I Should Coco’.
“It’s a wonderful crossover of a few generations being into it. Our first reunion tour saw such a mix of ages. There’s something about ‘…Coco’ that just creates this mad hurricane of cool chords, mad melodies and raw energy. That connects immediately with people.”

‘This is intended to be a new chapter’: Mike Shinoda defends Linkin Park’s new vocalist Emily Armstrong amid criticism

OHMYGOSSIP — Linkin Park founder Mike Shinoda has stressed that the band’s new singer Emily Armstrong is not trying to replace late original frontman Chester Bennington.
The ‘Papercut’ rockers announced their return earlier this month following a seven-year hiatus after Bennington took his own life in 2017 but the musician insists that the band will not be “rewritten” following heavy criticism of the move to put Armstrong front and centre.
Mike told BBC Radio 1’s New Music Show: “This is intended to be a new chapter of Linkin Park.
“The old chapter was a great chapter and we loved that chapter. It ran its course and now we were faced with a challenge of: ‘Well OK, if you start from scratch with another voice, what do you do?'”
Mike explained that he had been writing music with Dead Sara singer Emily since 2019 and that they never planned to “start the band up again”.
The 47-year-old rocker said: “We were just slowly coming together and then eventually things just started to fall into place with Emily and with Colin (Brittain) our new drummer.
“We talked about putting her voice on things we’d already written that only had my voice on them.
“Once we did that, we were like, ‘that sounds really good, we should try that on even more songs’.”
The decision to let Emily join the band has been criticised by Chester’s family, with his mother Susan Eubanks stating that she felt “betrayed” by the group’s new line-up.
She wrote in an essay for Rolling Stone magazine: “I feel betrayed. They told me that if they were ever going to do something, they would let me know. They didn’t let me know, and they probably knew that I [wasn’t] going to be very happy. I’m very upset about it.”

Lady Gaga to release Joker companion album

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga is set to release an accompanying album for ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’.
The 38-year-old pop star appears alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the new psychological thriller film, and Gaga has now announced plans to release a new 13-song album, called ‘Harlequin’, on Friday (27.09.24).
The award-winning star – who plays Harley Quinn in the sequel to 2019’s ‘Joker’ – wrote on Instagram: “Harlequin. September 27. A companion album to Joker: Folie a Deux. (sic)”
Gaga has actually been teasing the new album on social media over recent days, posting cryptic messages like, “I’m ready for my interview” and “Don’t tell me what to wear”.
The tracklisting for the new album suggests that covers from ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’, like ‘Oh, When the Saints’, will be mixed with new material.
Meanwhile, Gaga recently revealed that she “wrote a waltz for the movie”.
Speaking to Vogue, Gaga added: “I had a live piano player, Alex Smith, whom I asked to be with me for my scenes. There are moments in the film where I’m playing an adult woman who sings like a little girl. And she’s moving through the world with this kind of immaturity, which I thought was interesting.”
Gaga has also observed that while ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ has some “musical aspects”, it is still “very different” from a conventional musical.
The singer-turned-actress – whose previous film credits include ‘A Star is Born’ and ‘House of Gucci’ – said at the Venice Film Festival: “The music is a way to give the characters a way to express themselves because the dialogue wasn’t enough.”

Nina Nesbitt ‘disheartened’ to be seen only as Ed Sheeran’s ex

OHMYGOSSIP — Nina Nesbitt found it “disheartening” being seen as Ed Sheeran’s ex rather than a talented musician in her own right.
The 30-year-old singer – who dated the ‘Shape of You’ hitmaker in 2012 and inspired his breakup song ‘Nina’ – has written for artists like Jessie Ware and Olivia Holt as well as releasing three albums of her own, with a fourth coming this week, and she has hit out at being reduced to her past relationship.
She told the ‘Eras’ podcast: “It’s so disheartening after all the work and years that I’ve put into it.
“It only happens to women but it drives me to keep going and just be known as a musician.”
Nina’s new record ‘Mountain Music’ will be released on Friday (27.09.24) on her own Apple Tree Records.
And despite being a bit frustrated that her ex wrote ‘Nina’ about their breakup, she acknowledged it would be hypocritical to complain too much.
She explained: “There should be a disclaimer on songwriters. It is what it is, really. I’ve definitely written songs about other people.
“It was tricky because I never wanted to be known as someone’s ex-girlfriend.”
Nina noted while she did get some “amazing opportunities” from Ed – including the chance to tour with him – there have been some struggles as a result of that.
She added: “Obviously he gave me amazing opportunities of touring with him and everything…
“But, on the other hand, I think I’ve had to fight that for so long, articles about my albums, being described as someone’s ex.”
Nina is instead focusing on her own abilities as a musician, and running her own record label after disappointment earlier in her career.
She recalled: “I got signed when I was 17 to a label. Got dropped.
“I was at a point where I was like, ‘Where do I go from here?’ I quite enjoy being the boss. I’m a CEO!”

Shifty Shellshock’s death ruled an accident

OHMYGOSSIP — Shifty Shellshock’s death has been ruled an accident.
The Crazy Town frontman – whose birth name was Seth Binzer – passed away on June 24, at the age of 49, and his cause of death has now been certified by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office and attributed to the effects of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
The band’s manager, Howie Hubberman, previously revealed that drugs played a role in the ‘Butterfly’ hitmaker’s death.
He told People magazine the day after his passing: “Seth Binzer, after struggling with addiction and Crazy Town’s rapid success with ‘Butterfly,’ never was able to reach out on a more successful level to deal with his addictions. We all tried, but ultimately we all failed, or Shifty would still be here.
“The cause of death was a combination of prescription drugs and street purchased drugs. Shifty was a friend and really wanted to get himself fixed — unfortunately no one had the exact tools to do this, myself included.”
The singer struggled with drug addiction for many years and appeared on the reality television series ‘Celebrity Rehab 1’ and 2 and ‘Sober House 1’ and 2.
Back in 2012, he was admitted to hospital after losing consciousness and had been in a coma before being released.
The musician recently opened about getting sober and his battle with himself.
He wrote on Instagram eight weeks ago: “I’m a lover than a fighter …but the one I need to love more Instead of fight with is myself .. mr shifty true Love # Sober alive and grateful (sic)”
Meanwhile, he met Crazy Town co-frontman Bret Mazur, 53, in 1992, and they first called themselves Brimstone Sluggers.
In 1999, they formed Crazy Town, and a year later they were due to tour as part of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s Ozzfest, but Shifty was arrested after he threw a chair out a window while intoxicated.
Released in 2000, noughties classic ‘Butterfly’ topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks and was number one in several other countries including Austria, Denmark, and Norway.
Their debut album, ‘The Gift of Game’, sold more than 1.5 million copies.
However, after their 2002 follow-up ‘Darkhorse’ was a flop, they parted ways.
They reformed in 2007 and were back on stage in 2009. Their third album, ‘The Brimstone Sluggers’, followed in 2015.

Ringo Starr cancels rest of US tour after coming down with cold

OHMYGOSSIP — Ringo Starr has cancelled the remaining shows of his US tour due to illness.
The former Beatles drummer has come down with a cold and was forced to miss his concert in Philadelphia on Tuesday (24.09.24) and has also axed the Radio City Music Hall gig in New York City on Wednesday night (25.09.24).
A social media statement read: “Ringo has come down with a cold and after consulting a doctor he was advised to cancel these two remaining shows and get rest.
“As always, Ringo and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them soon.”
Refunds are being given to fans who had tickets for the two cancelled dates.
The 84-year-old musician and his All Starr Band kicked off the run on September 7 and played 10 shows in the States, with Ringo last onstage on September 22 in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Ringo released the EP ‘Crooked Boy’ in April – which features the Strokes’ guitarist Nick Valensi – and he explained how he asked songwriter and producer Linda Perry to pen more upbeat songs for the project.
He told Variety: “Even on ‘February Sky,’ it was all about the dark sky everywhere in February, so that’s an emotion in there. But I told her, ‘There’s gotta be a crack — a break in the sky — and the sun is coming out.’ Because all my songs have that. They can be ‘I’m down, I’m this, I’m that… But things are getting better, things are going up.’ They always have a positive upside.
“‘Rewind Forward’ [the title song of his previous EP, from 2023] was like that. ‘Rewind forward’ meant, sometimes you’re in a mood, and if you just backtrack a little and then find that (previous) space, and then carry on from that moment, it helps sometimes.”
Ringo also requested more rock songs.
He added: “I did. (At first) she wrote ‘Crooked Boy,’ and it was all about the story of my life — you know, I was ill, I was better, I found my own way.
“She sent me a couple of them, and then I called her and I said, ‘Linda, write me a rock song!’ And she says, ‘What’s that?’ I said, ‘I’ll leave it there. Just write me a rock song.’ And she did, of course, and it’s called ‘Gonna Need Need Someone’. And it did rock, and she put the band together, and then we did a video with the song playing and we are popping in and out.”
