OHMYGOSSIP — Drake encouraged Nelly Furtado’s musical comeback.
Nelly, 44, revealed that fellow Canadian Drake, 36, – who invited her to be a surprise guest for his All-Canadian North Stars event in Toronto last summer – reminded her about her legacy and value to the music industry and urged her to get back in the studio to work on new music.
She told Variety: “I have more gratitude nowadays so I know how blessed I am to be a performer and creator… I’m really leaning into my profession. I met Drake a year ago and we had some deep conversations about life and art and he blew up my head reminding me what a valuable artist I am and told me to ‘boss up’ and make new music, and I listened. So, I couldn’t say no when he invited me on stage, I had to be brave and boss up and start the next chapter.”
Nelly has been working on her new album – her first since 2017’s ‘The Ride’ – since last year and she has enjoyed the collaborative, creative process.
She explained: “I have been making new music solid, nonstop for the last year the way I like to: late nights, space to create wildly and loads of community and collaboration. I am making a pop album influenced by sounds that I love. My album touches on dance — I did a record with SG Lewis that I adore. T-Minus produced my Bomba Estereo song. T-Minus is a beast! I am proud of that record. One of my tunes is produced by Wonda Gurl – I love her energy.”

OHMYGOSSIP — McFly think it is “crazy” how they have been able to perform with their idols.
The ‘All About You’ group – which consists of Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter – shot to fame in the early 2000s and have gone on to meet A-Listers such as Sir Brian May and Oasis since, which Tom insists is more memorable than any award they have won.
He told Heat magazine: “It’s never an award that springs to mind whenever people ask us that question, it’s usually the moments when you’re playing to a big audience and everyone’s having a great time and singing their hearts out to our songs. It’s weird, because over the years, we’ve not only met but worked with so many of our idols from back in the day, which is crazy.”
Dougie added: “Performing with Brian May, that was a big one.
Danny said: “I think performing at Hyde Park was a highlight for me. I remember watching Bruce Springsteen there and thinking that I’d like to do that one day.”
Meanwhile, Danny – who won Most Fanciable Male and Most Snoggable Male at the Smash Hits Awards in 2004 – went on to admit that he actually has “no idea” where many of his trophies are, but still remains “very proud” of them.
He added: “I’m glad you brought those [Smash Hits] awards up – it’s about time someone did! I must say, I don’t know where most of those are but I’m very proud of them. I keep them in a suitcase in the loft.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Five Colours in her Hair’ hitmakers were asked who is most likely to forget the lyrics on stage and Dougie recalled that Danny messed up the words to ABBA classic ‘The Winner Takes It All’ at Buckingham Palace for a party to celebrate the Olympics.
He said: “We were performing at Buckingham Palace for the Olympics and we covered the ABBA song ‘The Winner Takes It All’ and Danny rhymed ‘destiny’ with ‘destiny’!”
Danny quipped: “I owned it though!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Belinda Carlisle has insisted The Go-Gos are “done”.
The 64-year-old singer was the lead singer of the renowned rock group before going on to achieve a string of hits in her own right in the 1980s and Belinda says the group are finished, having gone out on top with a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2021.
She told Variety: “It’s done. It has to be done at some point, you know. I think bands can go on too long, and without naming names, there are a few. And singers as well. I always tell my manager, ‘I hope you’re gonna tell me when it’s time.’ I don’t think that he’s gonna have to, because I probably will have pretty much felt like it’s time for me. I think I have a good sense of that. But, I mean, we did it all. I think that the Rock Hall induction was a really wonderful way to cement the legacy of the band. There’s something to be said for leaving at the top.”
Belinda – who recently made a comeback with her EP ‘Kismet’, more than five years after she last released an album – also revealed she would love to collaborate with Brandi Carlisle as they both think it is hilarious that people confuse them for each other.
She said: “I think she’s great. We both had a big laugh meeting each other, because people confuse both of us — I mean, all the time, still. Which is probably annoying to her and annoying to me at times, too, and funny at times as well. But I’m a huge fan of hers. And I would love it; if something appropriate came up, I would be totally into it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Alex James cried when Blur sold out Wembley Stadium in two minutes.
The 54-year-old bassist had no idea if anyone was still “interested” in the ‘Narcissist’ group – whose last headline shows came in 2015 – so was “really emotional” when he was told demand for the huge gig was so big, a second night would be added.
He told Red magazine: “You never really know until you put a show on sale if anyone is interested. It’s really emotional.
“I’m absolutely delighted that it’s all back on and I love them all dearly like brothers.”
When he’s not with the band, Alex is kept busy on the farm he lives on with wife Claire and their five children, but he admitted the adjustment between the two very different lifestyles can be tricky.
He laughed: “The last time I went away, I dropped the kids at school and flew to Mexico City, where there were thousands of people waiting for us at the airport and hotel.
“When we got to the venue –a stadium – it was huge.
“But afterwards, you get home and you have to wash up and the kids are like, ‘Dad, stop being a w*****.’ “
Blur recently embarked on a number of warm-up gigs but before their summer shows, which include festival appearances in Spain and France, and a headline gig in Dublin, Alex is hoping to lose some weight by cutting back on his beloved cheese.
He sighed: “I need to squeak back into my trousers. I put on a lot of weight in lockdown.
“Cheesemakers tend to be a certain shape and bass players tend to be a different shape.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie Sledge says her hit song is about “so much more” than just family.
The 68-year-old star shot to fame when she and her sisters Kathy, Kim and Joni – who passed away in 2017 – released the single ‘We Are Family’ in 1979 as part of Sister Sledge and explained that despite its title, it can mean “unity” or building each other up to achieve good.
She told HELLO Magazine: “It is so much more than just a family thing. It means unity and it reaches beyond family. It can go through any group of people who align for the purpose of building each other up or accomplishing something for good.”
These days, Debbie performs with her adult children Camille and David as well as her nephew Thaddeus and friend Tanya Ti-et as part of a group called Slegendary and went on to recall that it was her grandmother – an opera singer – who taught the girls to sing as she remembered noticing how much “love” her family had for music.
She added: “I think this might be the most fun I’ve ever had on the road. It’s hard, but nobody is in a bad mood. They’re just enjoying this, and I’m enjoying it because I get to see my kids every day.
“Maybe [my grandmother] thought: ‘These girls are not tone deaf – let me see what I can do.’ So, she would sit down at the piano and teach us gospel songs and hymns, which meant a lot to us because we grew up in the church.
“It did a lot for me, and I realised that I love music and I saw the love that they had.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Loreen has to have a reason to perform.
The 39-year-old Swedish pop star – whose real name is Lorine Zineb Nora Talhaou – became the second person in history to win Eurovision twice after Johnny Logan and has now admitted that she needs to create a “positive energy” when on stage so that it feeds into the audience.
She told The Daily Star Sunday newspaper’s Wired column: “It starts generating a positive vibe and things start to flow in your life. Positive attracts positive, negative attracts negative. When I perform, I usually have to know why I’m doing it. When I know, it generates a feeling in me. I want my performance to create different positive energy within the audience and the feeling of being free. Everything is connected. The vibe or feeling you’re generating in yourself, you’re sending it out and it affects everything.”
The ‘Tattoo’ hitmaker recently admitted that she likes to “do different things” before taking to the stage for the benefit of her mental health and explained that just before performing her winning track at the annual song contest, she cleared out the room so she could meditate before putting the same song on repeat in order to get rid of distractions.
She said: “I do different things depending on the vibe of the arena. Today before I went up on stage I meditated; I threw everyone out of the room and said, ‘I’m going to meditate here for a while. I also put a song on repeat just to get in a certain vibration because there’s a lot of distractions around, you know. We’re creators and our purpose is to send out stuff that’s beautiful, but it needs to be without distractions.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sophie Ellis-Bextor has stopped “diminishing” her work.
The ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ hitmaker admitted the COVID-19 pandemic has helped her to “reframe” her work and she no longer feels she has to let her career take a back seat to family life.
Sophie – whose online ‘kitchen disco’ livestreams were a huge success during the pandemic – told Big Issue magazine: “Before lockdown, I think I’ve always diminished my work.
“When I was talking about it to my kids, or friends, I’d be like, ‘I’ve got this little thing I’ve got to go do.’
“But now it’s helped me reframe that.
“I really love what I do. But also, it’s important and I don’t want to diminish it.
“So now with the kids, if they’re saying, ‘Oh I wish you were around for this, that, and the other’, I’ll be like, ‘Look, I’ve worked really hard to get these opportunities.’
“It’s just reframing, actually understanding that I do have a job and I really love it. And it’s important to me.”
The 44-year-old star – who has five sons with husband Richard Jones – is currently feeling “quite nicely adrenalized” because her work is busier than ever and it’s all doing things she enjoys.
She said: “I haven’t really been this busy before, but it’s all things I really care about.
“So I feel quite nicely adrenalized, which is lovely.
“I think if you’re a creative person, your best friend is momentum.”
Sophie’s kitchen discos allowed her to take some time away from the “mundane domestic stuff” that dominated during lockdown.
She said: “What you saw was literally what was happening here. I don’t think I coud have orchestrated that if I tried.
“But also, it felt like a kind of caricature, because obviously most of the time, like lots of families, it was all about the mundane domestic stuff.
“Keeping on top of the house, making sure you’ve got the next meal sorted, trying to think about how to support them with schoolwork or emotionally worrying about your family – all the things everybody was going through.
“And actually, no disrespect to my kids, but I didn’t even really mind how they felt about what I was doing.
“It was like, look, I need half an hour that’s mine, and so did Richard.
“I think for both of us, it was something we could distract ourselves with and feel upbeat.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Emilie Cunliffe wants to be a singer in her own right despite having a famous mum.
The 26-year-old musician is the daughter of former ‘Coronation Street’ actress Kym Marsh – who shot to fame herself as a member of 2000s pop band Hear’Say – and her former partner Dave Cunliffe but has insisted that she has “worked really hard” to launch her own career in singing and wants the naysayers to hear her sing before they judge.
She told The Sunday Express S Magazine: “Some people are only going to say I’m in the position I’m in because of who my mum is. They’ll have their opinions and I can’t change that but I’d tell them to come hear me sing or watch me perform before they make up their minds. If I couldn’t sing or act and just wanted to be famous, then fair enough but I can do those things. Sometimes, these skills are in your genes – my mum is an amazing performer – but i am my own person. I’ve worked really hard to get where I am. That’s one of the things I’ve learned from my mum – nothing comes easy. You have to continually work hard.”
Emilie – who has four-year-old son Teddy with fiance Mikey Hoszowskyj – went on to add that while she had “taken a break” from music to have a baby, it was Kym who encouraged her to get back to work and introduced her to a handful of producers, which led to her recording her debut album ‘Stories’ in Tennessee.
She added: “I’d taken a break from music for a little while to have my little boy Teddy and then COVID hit. But mum knew I’d never give up my passion. Straightaway they said, ‘We need to do this’. And I thought, if I don’t do it now, when will I? I thought, even if it doesn’t get me anywhere, at least I’ll know that I tried. Fast-forward, they flew me over to Nashville to record my music and it’s been all go ever since. With it having been recorded in Nashville, everyone always thinks it’ll
be country music, but it’s not. There are some songs that do have that nostalgic country sound in them, but I’d definitely say my music is a blend of a few genres.
“It’s soulful, it’s bluesy, a little bit like Norah Jones, but also completely different to anything else that’s out there. A couple of songs have a bit of a Muscle Shoals vibe [the famous Alabama recording studio]. There’s something on the album for everyone, no matter your taste.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelly Rowland grew emotional as she dedicated a song to one of her fans who recently died when she headlined Mighty Hoopla on Saturday (03.06.23).
The 42-year-old singer took to the stage in London’s Brockwell Park for her headline slot, and after dazzling fans with short versions of a number of her songs, things then took a serious turn as the ‘Dilemma’ hitmaker paid tribute to Julie Lillis, who died of cancer in March.
Dedicating her song ‘Stole’ to Julie, Kelly said: “This next song I want to dedicate to my darling Julie, who has been with Destiny’s Child and me my whole career.
“Julie, I love you. This one’s for you.”
After her rendition of the song, Kelly launched into a medley of Destiny’s Child classics, including ‘Bills Bills Bills’, ‘Survivor’, ‘Independent Women Pt. 1’ and ‘Lose My Breath’ before closing out her set with ‘Life Like This’, ‘Work’ and ‘When Love Takes Over’.
The singer later took to Instagram to share video footage of her performance.
She captioned the clip: “DAMN London. I love you so much!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! (sic)”
And Kelly wasn’t the only artist performing at the festival on Saturday to pay homage to their own back catalogue.
Earlier in the afternoon, Nadine Coyle treated fans to a selection of Girls Aloud hits, including ‘Sound of the Underground’, ‘Biology’ and ‘Something Kinda Ooh’, as well as her own ‘Go To Work’ and a cover of ‘Better Off Alone’.
Other highlights from the first day of the festival came from Kelis, who mixed her own greatest hits with covers including an instrumental take on Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and a version of Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’, a singalong set from ‘Unwritten’ hitmaker Natasha Bedingfield that included her own take on Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’, and Aqua, who had the whole park singing along to their beloved hits including ‘Turn Back Time’, ‘Doctor Jones’, and their biggest song, ‘Barbie Girl’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have postponed a pair of shows at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
The rap legends had been due to mark the 30th anniversary of Snoop’s 1993 album ‘Doggystyle’ – which was produced by Dre – with a pair of orchestral shows on June 27 and 28 – but Snoop has now confirmed the ‘Snoop Dogg Friends’ gigs have been pushed back until October due to the ongoing Hollywood writers strike and other union negotiations in the industry.
In a post on Instagram, Snoop explained: “Due to the ongoing WGA strike and the DGA [Directors Guild of America] and SAG/AFTRA [Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists] negotiations, we have decided to postpone the shows scheduled for June 27 and June 28 at the Hollywood Bowl. We stand in solidarity with the unions and are hopeful that the AMPTP [Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers] will negotiate fair deals as soon as possible and everybody can get back to work.”
The shows have been rescheduled for October 20 and 21.
A statement posted on the venue’s website explained: “The June 27 and 28 Snoop Dogg and Friends concerts are now scheduled for October 20 and October 21.
“Previously purchased tickets for Tuesday, June 27 will be honoured at the Friday, October 20 concert and Wednesday, June 28 will be honoured at the Saturday, October 21 concert.”
The Writers Guild Of America (WGA) strike has led to walk-outs across Hollywood with writers calling for better pay and conditions including for their work with streaming services – and Snoop previously showed his support for the action by likening the problems to those faced by musicians.
During a panel discussion last month at the Milken Institute’s Global Conference, Snoop said: “Somebody explain to me how you can get a billion streams and not get a million dollars. That’s the main gripe with a lot of us artists is that we do major numbers … but it don’t add up to the money. Like, where the f*** is the money?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts staged a mini–Girls Aloud reunion during Years and Years’ set at Mighty Hoopla on Sunday (04.06.23).
The two members of the noughties girl group – which disbanded in 2013 – joined Olly Alexander for a rendition of ‘The Promise’ and ‘Call the Shots’.
The trio and the audience shared an emotionally uplifting moment as festival-goers helped sing late band member Sarah Harding’s line, “Here I am, walking primrose,” on the former song.
The day before, Girls Aloud’s Nadine Coyle took to the stage for a solo set at London’s Brockwell Park.
Cheryl was the only member not to perform at the LGBTQ+ festival, which she headlined in 2021 and was briefly joined by Nicola.
Nadine previously insisted it would be “very wrong” for Girls Aloud to get back together.
The girl group vowed not to perform together again because it “wouldn’t be the same” without Sarah, who died of cancer in 2021.
Nadine told The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Bizarre column about the possibility of a reunion: “It wouldn’t be the same.
“It would feel so very wrong without having Sarah at it.”
Cheryl recently said that a full Girls Aloud reunion was not on the cards but she insisted that Sarah’s passing made them all “a lot closer”.
She told the Mail Online: “We haven’t spoken about Girls Aloud stuff since we learned of Sarah’s diagnosis.
“What Sarah’s departure did do was bring us all really a lot closer, just as women as mothers as friends. But we haven’t spoken about anything work-related for many years now.
“It wouldn’t feel quite like Girls Aloud without her because she was such a big character and a big part of it.
“I’ve learned throughout my life you should never say never but we’re just closer at the moment as friends and I love how we are right now. Work just hasn’t crept in at all. We’re not there yet.”
The surviving members of the group held a charity gala, The Primrose Ball, in honour of Sarah last year.

OHMYGOSSIP — Madison Beer got Lana Del Rey’s seal of approval of her upcoming album.
The ‘Selfish’ singer will release ‘Silence Between Songs’ on September 15, and she’s revealed her idol listened to the whole record and was “gracious” with her feedback.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, Madison spilled: “[Del Rey] said she listened to it a couple of times back to back, and I can’t believe that.
“It’s so awesome to have someone who has been such an idol of mine be so supportive of me and gracious always.
“She’s definitely someone that makes me believe in goodness.”
The songs on the follow-up to 2021’s ‘Life Support’ are a tip-of-the-hat to Lana, The Beatles, The Beach Boys and Tame Impala.
Madison said of the album in a statement: “I’ve learned so much about myself and my artistry on the journey of the last two years since my last record. This album tells the story of so many different pieces of me that I discovered in the moments of pause where I settled down from the noise and learned the most about myself. I hope my fans are as inspired listening to it as I was when creating it.”
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old star – who has been open about her battles with her mental health, including suicidal thoughts, in past – admits she feels like she was a different person two years ago when she released her second album.
She told the publication: “It’s hard to think about who I was then and how different my life was. I just feel like a completely different person.
“I feel really proud of the person that I am. I feel proud of the girl that I also was. I’ve been able to absorb so many things in the last couple of years and learn from so many things.”

OHMYGOSSIP — BTS’ Jungkook is officially set to release his debut solo album.
Following a report by Sports Chosun that claimed the LP will be released on July 14, Big Hit Music has confirmed the record is on the way but they are yet to share a release date.
The label told Star News: “We will make an announcement once the release schedule for Jungkook’s solo album has been confirmed.”
The 25-year-old BTS star – whose full name is Jeon Jungkook – has released a slew of solo tracks, such as ‘Still With You’, ‘Dreamers’, ‘My You’ and ‘Stay Alive’.
Meanwhile, BTS are celebrating their 10th anniversary with a new song called ‘Take Two’.
The K-Pop septet – also comprising SUGA, Jimin, V, RM, J-Hope, and Jin – will release their second song of the year – which follows May’s ‘The Planet’ – on June 9 in honour of their loyal fanbase.
Big Hit Entertainment said: “The song conveys their appreciation toward ARMY for all the love you shower them with and their desire to always be together with you.
“We sincerely express our gratitude to ARMY for making the 10th anniversary possible with your endless love for BTS.”
The South Korean boy band turns 10 on June 13.
The ‘Butter’ hitmakers have also been teasing their BTS Festa event, which will take place over two weeks in Seoul.
It will kick off on June 12 and run until June 25 and will take place at major landmarks, including the Han River and Seoul Tower.
The main event takes place at the Han River Park on June 17.
Previously unseen content, special releases, including solo work, and much more is planned.
The band are currently on a hiatus of sorts while they focus on solo projects and embark on military service, and SUGA previously said he is looking forward to the day they reunite and hopes they have a long future ahead.
Speaking to bandmate RM on an episode of his ‘Suchwita’ podcast, he said: “I dream of a future where the seven of us are together until we die. I’d like for the seven of us to be together for a long, long time.
“I don’t know how much more time will pass, or how long we will [continue to] go forward, but even when we get old and stop [promoting as an act] I hope BTS can all be together.”
BTS – who formed in 2010 – announced their hiatus in June 2022.
As well as focusing on solo music, Jin and J-Hope have embarked on their mandatory military service.

OHMYGOSSIP — Lisa Scott-Lee has teased that there is “more to come” for Steps.
The 47-year-old pop star shot to fame as part of the pop group in 1997 alongside Faye Tozer, Claire Richards, Lee Latchford Evans, and Ian ‘H’ Watkins, and when as she took to the stage as a solo act for the first time in almost 20 years on Sunday (04.06.23), Lisa promised fans that there is more in store for the group following their most recent run of top-selling albums.
Speaking live on stage at The Candy Crush Arena at the Mighty Hoopla Festival in Brockwell Park, London, she said: “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Steps. As you know, Steps is a massive, massive part of my life – it always has been. We’ve had an incredible 25 years but in the last five years we have released four albums, we’ve had more number ones and it’s just been amazing. But there’s more to come, so don’t worry!”
Following Steps’ initial split in 2001, Lisa embarked on a solo career and released the singles ‘Lately’, ‘Electric’ and ‘Too Far Gone’ in 2003.
She told the crowd about her previously announced expanded edition of her 2003 solo album ‘Never or Now’, which will be available later in the year, and she also teased that brand new music is on the way.
The deluxe edition will boast three unreleased tracks, B-sides and remixes.
She added: “I’ve been in the studio with Ian Masterson, he’s very talented. Thank you very much. I do have to say – it’s been 20 years since I wrote and recorded ‘Lately’ and my album but the great thing is it’s coming out later in the year!”
Lisa stormed the stage wearing dark glasses and a long white coat – which was later removed to reveal a glittering tutu number – and she opened the show with her debut solo single ‘Lately’ before working her way through a selection of her other solo numbers.
She also performed Steps classics ‘Stomp’ and ‘Better the Devil You Know’ and eventually closed out her set with their signature tune ‘Tragedy.’
Other acts to take to the stage at The Candy Crush arena over the weekend included ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, ‘Just a Little’ hitmakers Liberty X and 90s sensations the Vengaboys.

OHMYGOSSIP — Lauryn Hill reunited with her Fugees bandmates Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean for a six-song set at her Philadelphia concert.
The 48-year-old singer was performing her solo LP ‘The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill’ in full to mark its 25th anniversary, but she had a special treat in store for fans of the iconic hip-hop group.
The pair joined Hill for their hits including ‘Killing Me Softly’, ‘Ready Or Not’ and ‘Zealots’ with The Roots backing the trio at their festival The Roots Picnic on June 3.
The Fugees announced they had axed plans for a reunion tour to mark 25 years of their album ‘The Score’ in January 2022, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
And their latest reunion might be the last for a while.
Michel – whose full name is Prakazrel ‘Pras’ Michel – was recently found guilty of all charges in his international fraud trial after becoming embroiled in a political conspiracy that spanned two US presidential administrations.
The founding member of the group was accused of accepting $100 million from Malaysian financier Jho Low, who was charged with massive fraud and remains on the run, to influence both the administrations of Barack Obama and Donald Trump.
The 50-year-old musician was found guilty of all 10 counts, including conspiracy, witness tampering, and acting as an unregistered agent of a foreign government.
He faces up to 20 years in prison, but no sentencing date has been set.
Michel argued he simply wanted to make money and got bad legal advice while reinventing himself in the world of politics.
He declined to comment after the verdict, but his attorney said he was “extremely disappointed” in the decision and plans to appeal.
David Kenner added outside court with Michel by his side: “We are extremely disappointed in that result but are very, very confident in the ultimate outcome of this case.
“If we do move to a sentencing hearing I remain very confident we will certainly appeal this case. This is not over.”
Michel was accused of using Low’s funds to influence the US government to hand over a Chinese billionaire, Miles Guo, to Chinese authorities as a favour to Chinese leaders.

Michel was accused of becoming a funnel for Low’s millions, and his attempts to influence the US government.
Leonardo DiCaprio testified Low – who helped finance Hollywood films, including ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ starring the actor – had appeared as a legitimate businessman and mentioned wanting to donate to Obama’s campaign.
Michel was also present on some of the trips organised by Low, according to DiCaprio, which included jetting to Australia for New Year’s Eve and Las Vegas to ring in the New Year a second time.

OHMYGOSSIP — Marc Almond continues to rake in royalties for ‘Tainted Love’.
Synthpop duo Soft Cell – which sees singer Marc joined by instrumentalist David Ball – released their version of the timeless classic in 1981, and more than four decades later, it’s still making a packet and has now gained further popularity thanks to the powers of TikTok.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror about its enduring success, Marc said: “It’s had this life for the last 40 years or so, and it’s still finding its way into movies, adverts, TV shows. People use it and sample it – it still goes on and on.
“When the TikTok thing happened I was made up, it went all over the place and brought a new audience in. Every week we get a request to have it in a different show or film, it’s great it’s still out there and having a life of its own.”
On the royalties, he added: “I can’t complain, it’s great. I’m just waiting for ­Rihanna’s Greatest Hits and I really hope ‘SOS’ is on it because the whole thing is ‘Tainted Love’, and me playing electronic drums on it.”
Gloria Jones was the first one to record the song penned by Ed Cobb in 1965.
‘Tainted Love’ has been covered multiple times by the likes of Marilyn Manson, Coil and Inspiral Carpets.
As well as being heavily sampled on Rihanna’s 2006 hit ‘SOS’, it was also used on the Veronica’s 2007 track ‘Hook Me Up’.
‘Tainted Love’ was the biggest-selling song of 1981 in the UK.
Upon its release 42 years ago, it sold 1.05. million copies, jumping to 1.35 million by August 2017.
The song has also appeared in countless commercials, including for Levi’s and Corsodyl.
