OHMYGOSSIP — The Hollies’ back catalogue has been acquired by BMG.
The legendary 60s group’s recordings from their “golden period in the US,” including the 1972 classic ‘Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)’, are now owned by the major label.
The Hollies said: “BMG’s history as a trusted custodian of some of music’s greatest works assures we know our music and legacy will continue to live on for generations to come.”
Thomas Scherer, BMG’s President of Repertoire and Marketing, New York and Los Angeles, added: “The Hollies spearheaded the ‘British Invasion’ of the Sixties, and we are delighted to have secured rights to their golden period in the US, including Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress).
“We are honoured to represent their continuing creative legacy.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, who marked their 60th anniversary with a live run in 2022, are set to embark on a new tour continuing the milestone celebration.
Featuring original members Bobby Elliott and Tony Hicks, the jaunt begins on September 16 in Blackburn at King George’s Hall and will come to an end on November 9 at the London Palladium.
As well as drummer Bobby and lead guitarist Tony, the lineup will also include lead singer Peter Howarth, bass player Ray Stiles, keyboardist Ian Parker and rhythm guitarist Steve Lauri.
Fans can expect all the hits, including ‘Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)’, ‘The Air That I Breathe’, ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’ and ‘Bus Stop’.
The group have spent a total of 263 weeks in the top 40 in the UK, and they have performed continuously since forming in 1962.
Their tracks have also been featured in movies and adverts over the years.
In 1995, the Hollies were awarded an Ivor Novello for their outstanding contribution to British music.
In 2010, the group were inducted into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in recognition of their “impact on the evolution, development and perpetuation of Rock and Roll.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Anita Baker has pulled Babyface as her support act after allegedly facing “verbal abuse and threats of violence” from his fans.
The 65-year-old soul singer has decided to continue her ‘Songstress Tour’ solo after claiming to have received hate from the 64-year-old R’n’B star’s following.
Last month, Anita accused Babyface – whose real name is Kenneth Brian Edmonds – of making his fans believe he was the co-headliner of the tour.
She wrote: “He should tell you guys, the Truth.”
On May 10, Babyface’s set at New Jersey’s Prudential Centre was axed so that Anita would have enough time to finish her set.
Babyface tweeted: “I am truly sorry to my fans who have been waiting for us to hit the stage this evening at @PruCenter.
“I was asked not to perform in order to give Ms Baker her space and time to perform her show in its entirety. My band and I are extremely saddened we didn’t get to perform for y’all tonight.”
And now, the ‘Sweet Love’ hitmaker has called out the alleged abuse and announced she will no longer be joined by Babyface for the rest of the run.
She tweeted: “After Silently, Enduring Cyber Bulling/Verbal Abuse and Threats of Violence from the Fan Base, of Our Special Guest/Support Act. In the Interest of Personal Safety. I will continue, ‘The Songstress Tour,’ alone. Appropriate refunds will be made. Blessings. (sic)”
In a statement sent by his representative to Variety, Babyface responded: “I am saddened by the news that Anita Baker has decided to remove me from ‘The Songstress Tour.’ It’s unfortunate and disheartening to see how things have played out via social media. While I was looking forward to the rest of the dates, I have nothing but love and respect for Anita and I wish her the best for the remainder of her tour.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Alice Cooper has announced his 22nd solo studio album, ‘Road’, and has returned to his roots on the raucous lead single, ‘I’m Alice’.
The legendary shock rocker, 75, is back with his first new music since his 2021 LP ‘Detroit Stories’, for which he has reunited with longtime rock producer Bob Ezrin.
He’s backed on the record by his revered band – comprising Ryan Roxie [guitar], Chuck Garric [bass], Tommy Henrikson [guitar], Glen Sobel [drums], and Nita Strauss [guitar].
A press release notes that: “‘Road’ channels the spirit of old school Alice with instantly recognisable grit and plenty of gusto.”
The ‘School’s Out’ hitmaker commented: “For Road, I wanted the band to be involved in the foundation of all the songs.
“I only see these guys when we’re on the road. So, I wanted them to be as tight as they are for the show but on all new material. When you have a band this good, I believe in showing it off, and this is my way of doing so.”
On ‘I’m Alice’, which is out now, the ‘Feed My Frankenstein’ rocker – who dons his signature goth clown eyeliner look in the music video – declares himself: “The Master of Madness; the Sultan of Surprise…so don’t be afraid, just look into my eyes.”
The new LP will be released on August 25 and is accompanied by a bonus DVD/Blu-ray of Alice’s full live show at Hellfest 2022.
Alice is also currently touring with The Hollywood Vampires, his supergroup with Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, Johnny Depp and Tommy from his own touring band.

OHMYGOSSIP — Nile Rodgers thinks artificial intelligence in music could be “something wonderful”.
The Chic guitarist has weighed in on the debate about the future of AI in songwriting, and he admitted while there will be “a lot of controversy” as the technology “becomes viable”, he sees some advantages.
He told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “Just like at the Academy Awards there is animation and there is real-life, there’s documentaries.
“Right now we have to let the cards fall where they may because you can’t tell an artist, ‘You can’t paint with that colour’. You just can’t do that.
“You have to let artists figure out what’s right and I believe that we all inherently know right from wrong and we will figure it out – this is right, this wrong.
“In a weird way I think it’s a big deal out of nothing, but it maybe something wonderful.”
The AGE-year-old musician pointed to the way people reacted to the emergence of drum machines, computers and samplers, but he sees them as “wonderful tools”.
He added: “I hear people talking about fake stuff. That sounds like noise to me. That sounds like the noise we’ve been hearing all our lives.
“The drum machine and sequencer have been wonderful tools. There are bands that could never have had a record if it wasn’t for a sequencer.
“If we want to have a really relevant conversation, let’s talk about songwriters getting paid.”
Meanwhile, he pointed to his late collaborator Avicii as someone who used technology to help him create his art in the best possible way.
He explained: “He would write the most beautiful songs without knowing what he was doing – his ear was telling him what to do.
“How could he do it? Because he had gear. His gear allowed him to do that.”

OHMYGOSSIP — BLACKPINK’s Jennie had to leave the stage mid-song during a concert due to a “deteriorating condition”.
The 27-year-old singer was performing with the group in Melbourne, Australia, on Sunday (11.06.23) when she had to depart the show early, and didn’t return for the rest of the gig.
Record label and talent agency YG Entertainment said in a statement on fan platform on WeVers: “Jennie was unable to complete the stage due to her deteriorating condition.
“We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to all the fans who have shown their support for Blackpink and those who attended the event. We kindly ask for your understanding in this situation.
“Jennie expressed her strong determination to carry on with the performance until the end. However, following medical advice on site, we immediately took measures to ensure she receives ample rest and stability.
“Jennie has conveyed her regrets for not being able to stay with the fans until the end, and assures that she will recover as soon as possible.”
Fan-captured videos of the performance show Jennie walking off stage while the band – also made up of Rosé, Lisa and Jisoo – were singing ‘Lovesick Girls’.
BLACKPINK are due to continue their ‘Born Pink’ world tour in Sydney, with two sold-out shows at the Qudos Bank Arena on Friday (16.06.23) and Saturday (17.06.23), and they will head to Auckland, New Zealand, later this month.
One of Jennie’s latest projects has seen her make her acting debut in Sam Levinson’s new HBO show ‘The Idol’, alongside Lily Rose-Depp, The Weeknd, and Troye Sivan.

OHMYGOSSIP — The Prodigy have vowed to continue to “ignite, uplift and destroy,” following the loss of Keith Flint.
The founding member of the dance rock group tragically died in 2019 aged 49, and his bandmates Liam Howlett, 51, and Maxim, 56, have just announced their latest tour after they returned to the stage last summer for the first time since his passing.
The ‘Army Of The Ants Tour’ will kick off at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on November 16, and wrap at London’s Alexandra Palace on November 24.
And Liam says Keith’s energy “will be felt in the music and through us on stage.”
He told NME of the first tour without their beloved bandmate, who had a unique energy to his dancing and performing: “We really felt the crowd were there to support us and give us the energy back and we are eternally grateful for that.
“It was highly emotional and very special. Flinty will never leave us; he is embedded deep in the soul of this band and his energy will be felt in the music and through us onstage. That’s what I know and feel.”
Vowing not to go anywhere, Liam said: “As for the future, The Prodigy is bigger than just the band: it stands for something, the people know this, we know this …. even more after playing live again. I’m energised by that and we are back in the studio writing new tunes. The prodigy will continue to ignite, uplift and destroy just as we always did.”
Liam will be penning more new tunes on the road as he’s at his most creative after a concert.
He explained: “I think I finally realised that I can’t write new finished Prodigy music unless we are doing gigs and [are] out there submerged in it. The best time to write for me is after I come off stage – that’s when the clearest vision is. The sweat and people’s faces are fresh in my mind, the feeling is present – know what I mean?
“So yeah, I’ve been in the studio writing loads of beats and pieces but now we are back on tour it’s easier to feel what is the strongest s*** and smash that into new tunes. I always write Prodigy music with a strong vision of us playin’ it live onstage .. nothing else comes into it.
“Keef always used to say, ‘In the studio the music is 2D, but when it hits the stage it becomes 3D. Playin’ it live brings it to f***in’ life ’ – and he was right.”
Tickets go on sale from 9.30am on Friday (16.06.23).

OHMYGOSSIP — Leigh-Anne Pinnock felt “undervalued” in Little Mix.
The 31-year-old pop star shot to fame in the girl group formed on ‘The X Factor’ in 2011, and on her debut solo single ‘Don’t Say Love’, she chanelled the “frustration, sadness and anger” she felt about being “overlooked and undervalued” with a “predominately white” fanbase and pop world.
She told Vogue.co.uk: “The pop industry is very white, we did have a predominately white fan base. It took me so long to understand why I was feeling so undervalued. I just blamed myself. My family would be like, ‘Oh, Leigh, you’re getting the same money. It’s fine.’ I just couldn’t accept that.”
One place Leigh-Anne – who was joined by Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall, and formerly Jesy Nelson in the band that disbanded in 2022 – did feel appreciated was Brazil.
She recalled: “Fans were chanting my name – I’ve never had a response like that and we’d been in the group for nine years.”
Her deeply honest upcoming debut studio album is all about the highs and lows in the ‘Shout Out To My Ex’ group, her relationship with footballer husband Andre Gray – with whom she has young twins born in August 2021 – and motherhood.
And Leigh-Anne – who has dropped her surname for her solo releases – admits she’s feeling confident as she embarks on a new chapter as a solo artist.
She said: “The first single, ‘Don’t Say Love’ is about wanting to be loved wholeheartedly, [like] the love that I have for myself. If it’s not that, then I don’t want it. That’s a journey, getting there. Within the group and in my career, I really felt like a lot of the time I was overlooked and undervalued. I really wanted to get that emotion across in the video: frustration, sadness, anger. I wanted to get that across in my first single, so I could just leave that girl and that feeling in the past. ‘My Love’ is a celebration of every type of love: owning who I am and stepping into my solo career and this new being, who gained all of her confidence back and knows who the f*** she is.”
Leigh-Anne says making her fans feel “inspired and empowered” is her ultimate goal, while she is looking forward to doing her own tour in the future and sharing the experience with her children.
She added: “I just want to make music that people are inspired by and people are empowered by and to continue to use my voice and platform. Because I just think, why am I here otherwise? I would love to have my own tour. I don’t care if it’s two people in the audience – knowing that they are there because they love and value me and love what I do, I will be happy with that. I’m excited to have my babies there as well to witness it. They’ll be at an age where they understand it. That’ll set me right off.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Roman Kemp is proud of Lewis Capaldi for putting his mental health first.
Lewis recently announced he was taking three weeks off from touring in order to look after himself and even though it means he will miss the Capital FM Summertime Ball, which Roman hosts, Roman thinks he has done the right thing.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Of course I’m gutted we won’t see him — but actually I’m really proud of him for speaking out.
“It’s so important people understand it’s OK to take time out and look after yourself and your mental wellbeing — so somebody like Lewis who is so honest and open with fans can make a real difference.
“I sent him a message wishing him well and hopefully he’ll feel back to his best again soon.
“But it’s so brave to speak out, especially when you are at the very top of your game like he is.
“There’s an assumption that if you’re very successful and things are going well you can’t struggle with mental health, but that just isn’t true.
“He’s setting a great example to people and I wish him all the best.”
Lewis, 26, recently announced that he would be taking time out until Glastonbury later this month for the sake of his “mental and physical” health.
He wrote on Instagram: “Hi everyone, hope you’re well This is a really difficult message, and one that hurts me a lot to have to type, but I’m really sorry to say that I’m going to have to cancel all commitments from now until I play Glastonbury on June 24th.
“It’s been such an incredible time leading into this new album, and seeing all of the support from everyone has been beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of. That said, the last few months have been full on both mentally and physically, I haven’t been home properly since Christmas and at the moment I’m struggling to get to grips with it all.
“I need to take a moment to rest and recover, to be at my best and ready for Glastonbury and all of the other incredible shows coming up so that I’m able to continue doing what I love for a long time to come. I need to take these three weeks to be Lewis from Glasgow for a bit, spend some time with my family and friends and do normal life things that are an important part of me feeling better. I hope everyone understands.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Niall Horan’s girlfriend inspired some of the “happier” tracks on his new album.
The 29-year-old singer/songwriter’s third solo album ‘The Show’ features songs inspired by his love Amelia Woolley and Niall revealed it felt good to write love songs that were not about heartbreak.
He told ET Canada: “Yeah, 100 per cent. I’m in a relationship, so I think that comes with [it].
“Usually it’s the love songs are heartbreak songs, so it’s nice to be able to write better, you know, more happier stuff.”
However, Niall admitted that Amelia was “taken aback” to have some songs written about her.
He said: “I think she’s just like, what? Really? She’s like, taken aback, I suppose.”
Although Niall told Bustle “that’s dead right” when he was told it seemed like he was madly in love, he insisted he wants to keep his love life as private as possible.
He said: “If everyone knew everything, [my songwriting] wouldn’t be as candid, would it? There’d be all these theories, and I’m not in town for that. I’m here to write what’s on my brain, and love happens to be one of those things that’s flying around me.”
The pair have been dating since early 2020.

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Goldfrapp says Goldfrapp had “a pretty good stint”.
The ‘Ooh La La’ hitmaker would “never say never” to working with her former bandmate Will Gregory, 63, again but revealed they have no “plans” to get back into the studio together as they are both busy with solo projects.
The 57-year-old singer told Electric Sound magazine: “I’ve worked Will for over 20 years and we’ve released seven albums, so I’d say we’ve had a pretty good stint together.
“Will has always had other projects in between, going off and doing his thing, and I’ve always wanted to do my thing for a long time. Everything is great, it’s all good between us – we had a catch up only yesterday – but neither of us has plans to make any new music together. We’d never say never, but he’s doing thing and I’m focusing on mine…”
Alison reflected on how their sound has “always been a hybrid” of genres and never fit into “rigid categories”.
She said: “I remember being at an awards ceremony once and they had very specific categories. You know, dance music, rock music, and so on. I hated those rigid categories. But everybody would ask, ‘What are Goldfrapp? Are they dance? Are they electronic?’ We’d always been a hybrid.”
Alison enthused about how “important” for her to be working on something she is passionate about.
She said: “I’m a creative person, so I always like to be doing something or making something. As an artist, I think that it’s important to feel excited about what you’re doing… and I’m incredibly excited about what I’m doing.

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny O’Donoghue “wouldn’t have been able to get through” the death of his bandmate Mark Sheehan without their fans.
The 42-year-old singer is the frontman of Irish rock band The Script alongside drummer Glen Power and following the death of their guitarist Mark – who passed away in April at the age of 46 after a brief illness – has thanked fans for their support as he introduced the track ‘If You Could See Me Now’ whilst they were supporting Pink on her Summer Carnival Tour.
Speaking live on stage at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light on Saturday (10.06.23), he said: “We wouldn’t get through times like this if it wasn’t for people like you guys. Thank you so much, from the bottom of our hearts, this is the first time we’ve been able to play it again since. Thank you for the support you’ve given us, all the texts, all the messages. Honestly, for us and his family, people are saying prayers and that’s what we need now more than ever. He was so excited to come and play all these Pink shows with us. And so we’re going to dedicate this song to him now, it’s called ‘If You Could See Me Now’.”
Following the death of their bandmate -who is also survived by his wife Rina and their children Cameron, Avery, and Lil – the ‘Hall of Fame’ rockers immediately paid tribute to the tragic star as a “much loved husband, father, brother, bandmate and friend.”
Their statement said: “Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness. The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time.”
The Script were supporting global superstar Pink at her ‘Summer Carnival Tour’ and will continue to tour the UK with the ‘So What’ songstress including her dates at BST Hyde Park on June 24 and 25 and will appear at a select number of her European dates.

The Little Mix singer has reportedly lined up a staggering 11 producers and songwriters to work with her on her upcoming new material because she’s determined to offer fans “the best” music she can.
A source told the Sunday Mirror newspaper’s No Filter column: “Perrie has a revolving door of hitmakers at her home studio in Cheshire, writing with everyone from Raye to legendary Steve Mac – who boasts 31 number one singles int he UK alone – as well as obscure US rock band Before You Exit.
“She’s experimenting with every sound out there and churning out hits
“Only the best will make the cut – she’s ensuring fans won’t be disappointed.”
Perrie – who has 22-month-old son Axel with fiance Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – has already registered a track called ‘Same Place, Different View’ with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
The ‘Shout Out to my Ex’ hitmaker recently admitted she has been having “so much fun” in the recording studio working on her solo tracks.
She told OfficialCharts.com: “It’s all going really well. I’m just having so much fun experimenting with different sounds. It’s really good. I’m so lucky, I’m working with such amazing people. “I’m really grateful. I want to make music that I love.”
And Perrie previously insisted she’s not rushing to bring out her solo music.
She told Grazia magazine: “I don’t have a set timeline. My label have told me to just go with the flow and enjoy discovering what my sound is going to be, the fact there’s no deadline in my life just makes me the happiest person. I feel so lucky to just be having fun.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Styles paused his performance to assist a fan in the crowd at his Irish concert who had seemingly fallen over.
The ‘Falling’ singer was performing at Slane Castle in County Meath on Saturday (10.06.23) when he made sure the gig-goer was brought to safety after taking a tumble.
Pointing in her direction, the former One Direction star said in a clip circulated on social media: “Give her a bit of space and water. Is everybody else good?
“You good? Did you fall, is it slippy?”
After making sure she was safe, the 29-year-old pop star made a joke about his own accident in Ireland.
He quipped about “the time I got head-butted in Tallaght”.
So far this tour, Harry has helped fans come out, done gender reveals, and even drank out of his own shoe on the first night of the Australian leg.
The ‘Kiwi’ singer gave in after chants from the crowd at HBF Park in Perth in February and completed the Aussie tradition of doing a ‘Shoey’, drinking alcohol, usually beer, from one’s own shoe.
A man called Scott did a ‘Shoey’ before the crowd started chanting “your turn” repeatedly at Harry.
He then proceeded to take off his sneaker before pouring an unknown drink into the shoe and shaking his head in disgust.
Harry told the crowd: “This is one of the most disgusting traditions I’ve ever witnessed.”
The ‘As It Was’ hitmaker then did the deed and put his soggy shoe back on.
Harry then joked that he needed a therapy session to get over it.
He laughed: “I feel like a different person. I feel ashamed of myself. It feels so personal. Such an intimate moment to be shared with so many people. It’s fine when Scott does it… I’ll be discussing this with my therapist at length. At length.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Gallagher is getting his own ‘Later… with Jools Holland’ special.
On Saturday night’s (10.06.23) episode of the BBC Two music show the host teased that “later this series” the former Oasis guitarist will be joining him for a whole programme dedicated to the ‘Some Might Say’ hitmaker.
The upcoming episode was previewed by the 56-year-old rocker’s live rendition of ‘Open The Door, See What You Find’ from his latest solo album with his High Flying Birds, ‘Council Skies’.
More live performances of tracks from the record are expected.
The ‘Pretty Boy’ singer narrowly missed out on a number one in the Official UK Album Chart with the LP, losing out to Foo Fighters’ ‘But Here We Are’.
Last year, Arctic Monkeys served up a live set for their own ‘Later…’ special.
Meanwhile, Noel has insisted his estranged brother Liam, 50, is “full of s***” and is too scared to be in the same room as him.
The musician claims he hasn’t heard anything from his former bandmate or his team, despite his repeated public declarations of wanting to reunite their former group, and admitted he isn’t expecting anyone to call because the ‘Everything’s Electric’ singer won’t want to have a difficult conversation.
Noel told The Times newspaper’s Saturday Review: “Liam ain’t called. I’m not expecting him to, because he’s full of s*** and very disingenuous with his beloved Oasis fans. I say to him, ‘Get somebody to call somebody my end. Let’s see what you’ve got to say.’ Guess what? My phone has not twitched once.
“He knows for a fact that should someone call me, and I go, ‘You know what? F*** it. Let’s do it,’ then he has to actually stand in the same room as me.
“Then it will be, ‘All right, d*******, how you doing? Before we go any further, there’s a few things I have to say to you.’ That’s when the a*** will fall out of his trousers.”
The ‘Easy Now’ singer insisted Liam is a “bully” who doesn’t like to be confronted about his own behaviour and urged his younger brother to get in touch if he is serious about reuniting Oasis, who split in 2009 due to the tension between the siblings.
He said: “If it’s going to happen, Liam has to pull it off. It’s got to be the best it has ever been. But he’s one of these guys and they’re ten a penny, particularly up in Manchester, the bully, who when you put it on ’em and say, ‘Come on then, let’s see what you’ve got,’ start doing a lot of harrumphing.
“Liam is like a violent version of Arthur Fonzarelli. So I’ll say it again: I’m free, back end of 2024. He could even video himself calling me. That would be good for his little f****** Twitter feed. But since then he’s gone quiet. Funny, innit?”

The Princess of Pop wowed 80,000 gig-goers with her spicy choreography for her latest hit ‘Padam Padam’ at Wembley Stadium on Sunday night (11.06.23) and also got to perform her noughties classic ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’.
Kylie is quoted by The Mirror as saying to the press backstage: “It was the best surprise. It was almost a surprise for me, it really was very last minute. We just flew on in.
“To be able to do ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ after, I had the best time. Thanks to everyone.”
The 55-year-old singer wowed in a flowy red gown and matching thigh-high boots as she belted out the euphoric dance hit.
The ‘All the Lovers’ hitmaker later posted on Instagram: “When you’re about to PADAM PADAM at WEMBLEY STAAAAADIUUUM! What a treat to surprise you all at Summertime Ball.”
The UK’s 2023 Eurovision entrant Mae Muller was another surprise guest at the summer concert, performing ‘I Wrote A Song’.
Sunday also saw performances from the Jonas Brothers and Adam Lambert.
Kylie recently gushed that she is “bursting with joy” over the success of ‘Padam Padam.’
The legendary pop star – who became the first female artist to score a UK Number 1 album in five consecutive decades with the release of her last record ‘Disco’ in 2020 – returned to the charts with the lead single from her forthcoming album ‘Tension’ to critical acclaim and thanked fans for the reaction as she celebrated her 55th birthday on May 28.
Speaking in a video posted to Instagram, she said: “I just wanted to say thank you, thank you so so much for all the birthday messages and the ‘Padam’ reaction and the love, it has been an incredible week topped off by being my birthday today and I can’t thank you enough. My heart is bursting with joy so thank you so so much!”
‘Tension’ is set for release on September 22.

OHMYGOSSIP — Zara Larsson is not a fan of AI-generated music and the “lack of consent”.
The Swedish pop star says the quality of the tracks made by artificial intelligence (AI) software so far hasn’t been great, in her opinion, and she doesn’t like the fact that anyone could use her vocals and train the AI to perform a song to her likeness without her permission and potentially make money from it and have a hit.
Zara, 25, is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying at Capital’s Summertime with Barclaycard on Sunday (11.06.23): “As of now, it’s not up to the level of a real singer, but it’s probably only a matter of time.
“What I don’t like about it is the feeling of not being in control over your voice and the songs.
“If someone writes a song and puts my voice over it and it blows up, goes viral and becomes a hit, wow great.
“Even if they would give me a percentage, it would still be like, ‘But I didn’t consent to it’.
“What if I don’t even like the song and it’s my voice? It’s the lack of consent and not making the decision for yourself that I don’t like.
“Everybody has to be on board with it.”
By contrast, experimental artist Grimes is encouraging fans to create songs using her voice and has even created her own software, Elf.Tech, and all she asks is that she gets 50 per cent of the royalties.
The 35-year-old star – whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher – insists that if artists allow their voices to be used in AI projects, “beautiful things might come from it”.
And she is of the belief that art shouldn’t be owned by anyone, not even the creator.
She told DJ Jaguar on the ‘UTOPIA Talks’ podcast: “Copyright sucks. I don’t think art belongs to anyone.
“Why shouldn’t everyone be able to use your voice or whatever? Like it just seems cool and exciting and then beautiful things might come from it, when people like big artists do these writing camps, they search the world for the best people to come in and write and they spend all this money doing it, and it’s like you could just not spend that money and just give your voice out to the public. And like, you’d be drawing from a much wider pool, you know, like the outcome the net outcomes of great art would be.”
