Lizzo dismisses suggestion of a ‘gap year’

OHMYGOSSIP — Lizzo is going through a “grind year”.
The ‘Good as Hell’ hitmaker sparked speculation she was taking a break from music just two months ago when she proclaimed she was on a “gap year” while vacationing in Bali, but she’s now insisted she’s been working very hard behind-the-scenes.
Appearing at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit earlier this week, Lizzo was asked about her extended break.
According to Rolling Stone magazine, she replied: “‘Gap year’? Girl, who said ‘gap year’? I launched my company Yitty in 2022 at the same time as my album, ‘Special’…
“As soon as I stepped down home from tour — I may not be as public-facing — but I went straight to Yitty headquarters, and I’ve just been working, working, working. You may not see me, but I’ve been working. This ain’t a gap year, it’s a grind year.”
The 36-year-old star – who hasn’t released an album since 2022’s ‘Special’ – had declared she needed time out to “protect [her] peace” back in August.
Alongside a video post on Instagram, Lizzo wrote: “I’m taking a gap year and protecting my peace [prayer emoji] (sic)”
In the video, Lizzo was stood outside on a balcony wearing a swimsuit as rain poured on her head.
But just two weeks later, the ‘Truth Hurts’ singer teased she was working on a new album as she shared a video of herself in a skimpy red swimsuit.
She captioned the Instagram post: “I wasn’t gonna post this on IG but 2021 me would be soooo proud of 2024 me.
“And I’m NOT only talking about my body if yall only KNEWWWW what I’ve done for my mental and emotional health in the last year… wheeeew don’t worry imma write a album about it. (sic)”
Earlier this year, she seemingly announced her exit from the music business after growing tired of “being the butt of the joke”.
She wrote on Instagram in March: “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.
“All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.
“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views … being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look.
“My character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this s***. (sic)”
However, Lizzo later clarified that she wasn’t quitting the music industry.
She said: “I quit giving any negative energy attention. What I’m not gonna quit, is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting the people, ’cause I know I’m not alone.”

Shawn Mendes ‘relearned’ passion for music after only experiencing ‘Top 40 pop’

OHMYGOSSIP — Shawn Mendes had to “relearn” his love for making music after coming “from Top 40 pop”.
The ‘Why Why Why’ hitmaker – who described the single as the “origin” of his upcoming stripped-back album ‘Shawn’ – revealed how the singalong song was something that formed “completely in the moment”.
Speaking to John Mayer for Interview magazine, he said: “It came completely in the moment. That song was the origin of the album.
“I come from Top 40 pop music, which is like Auto-Tune, hyper-compressed, hyper-in-the-box, and I had to relearn how to enjoy myself in a room with four people with a guitar in my hand.
“I know this sounds silly, but have you ever heard harmony with two other humans in the room with you singing?”
John agreed with him, describing it as “the kind of thing that makes you want to keep singing it over and over again, just to feel it”.
He added: “There are so many moments on this album that I can picture you standing behind the console just losing your mind, listening back going, ‘Oh my god, that’s mine.’ ”
The 46-year-old musician reflected on the way the 26-year-old singer created a tune is could resonate even with non-artists.
He explained: “It’s the kind of song that, if you weren’t even an artist and you and your friends just wrote that, you would get together—”
Shawn interjected: “And sing it every time. That song was a gift from the cosmos.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Stitches’ star reflected on the way he has focused on making something he enjoys rather than what he thinks fans should like.
He said: “Well, if I’m a representation of the general society that is digesting music, then I just did a good job at making something that I would listen to instead of what I think people should listen to.”

Coldplay on track to break 1 billion record on Music Of The Spheres Tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Coldplay are on track to become the first UK act to earn more than £1 billion from a single tour.
The ‘Feels Like I’m Falling in Love’ hitmakers’ latest album, ‘Moon Music’, became the biggest-selling record by a UK artist in three years when it rocketed to number one on the UK’s Official Albums Chart last week.
Meanwhile, the band’s ‘Music Of The Spheres Tour’ – which began in March 2022 – continues, and it looks set to break another record after more than nine million tickets were already sold, and they are on track for 10 million sales.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Coldplay will be on course to bank £1 billion from their Music Of The Spheres tour, which is an incredible feat.
“The global demand for their live shows is incredible and they sell out every venue.
“Next month they will set another milestone of 10 million ticket sales for one tour, which is miles ahead of any other act.
“Given the success of ‘Moon Music’, it proves Coldplay’s fanbase is only continuing to grow.”
Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ has grossed more than $1 billion, but Coldplay will make history for a UK act if they repeat the feat.
However, the band – also made up of Guy Berryman, Johnny Buckland and Will Champion – won’t be making many more albums.
Chris recently revealed Coldplay are only planning to make another two records before hanging up the microphone.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Chris said: “We are only going to do 12 proper albums and that’s real. Yeah. I promise.
“Because less is more. And for some of our critics, even less would be even more! It’s really important that we have that limit.
“There’s only seven Harry Potters. There’s only 12 and a half Beatles albums. There’s about the same for Bob Marley, so all of our heroes.
“Also having that limit means the quality control is so high right now, and for a song to make it, it’s almost impossible, which is great. And so where we could be coasting, we’re trying to improve.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Olivia Rodrigo has laughed off falling down a trap door mid-show in Australia.

Fortunately, she didn’t sustain any injuries.
In a TikTok clip of the fall, she reassured the crowd: “Oh my God, that was fun. I’m okay!
“Sometimes there’s a just a hole in the stage. That’s alright! Okay, where was I?”
Sharing the video to her own page on the video-sharing platform, she quipped in the caption: “#subtleforeshadowing.”
Meanwhile, Olivia recently donated all the profits from her debut concert in the Philippines to a women’s health charity.
The ‘Drivers License’ hitmaker – who is half Filipino – performed to a sold-out crowd at Bocaue’s Philippine Arena on October 5, and after the show, Olivia took to her Instagram to reveal all of the net profits had been donated to the charity Jhpiego, which focuses on ensuring women receive quality health care.

“Her generosity and commitment to women’s health will make a lasting impact. Together, we’re helping more young women and girls access the care and support they need! (sic)”

Queen hint at releasing new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Queen have discussed releasing new music.
The rock legends haven’t put out an album since 1995’s ‘Made In Heaven’, which was released four years after the death of iconic frontman Freddie Mercury in 1991, but drummer Roger Taylor, 75, has revealed he and guitarist Brian May, 77, “might” just give fans some new music.
The sticksman told Uncut magazine: “I think we might.
“Brian and myself were talking the other day, and we both said that if we feel we have some good material, why not?
“We can still play. We can still sing. So I don’t see why not.”
The ‘We Will Rock You’ hitmakers have been touring with Adam Lambert since 2012 with their tours earning rave reviews, but Brian doubts there will be a new Queen album featuring the ‘American Idol’ runner-up.
Despite them laying down some potential songs in the studio, Brian is deterred by Queen fans who are opposed to the idea but respects their loyalty to the late flamboyant frontman.
In an interview with Total Guitar magazine last year, he said: “We have been in the studio. We did knock a few ideas around in the middle of one of those tours. But it just never quite reached the place where we felt it was going to be right. So we haven’t pursued it that far.
“I really don’t know. But I think there’s a bit of a barrier there. I think if people see Queen on a record label, they still want it to be Freddie singing. It could be Jesus Christ on it, but they’d still want Freddie, and I don’t blame people for that.
“There are people on Instagram who get annoyed with me, ‘Why are you still carrying on without Freddie?’ And I go, ‘Don’t tell me what I should do! I do what I feel I should be doing.’”
Brian admits there are still some fans who are unhappy that Queen + Adam Lambert even touring, but he insists Freddie would be happy that the band have continued to play their music.
He said: “There are people who like we shouldn’t even be going on stage without Freddie. But I think that would have been very sad, and that’s not what Freddie would have wanted either. He would have wanted us to continue developing. And of course, because we are continuing and developing, it keeps his legacy alive.”
Despite his own astonishing vocal abilities, Brian thinks that Freddie would have been a little bit jealous of Adam’s incredible singing voice.
He said: “I’ve heard a billion voices in my life, and I’ve never heard a voice like Adam’s. Time an time again, I can picture Freddie saying, ‘You b******!’ Because Adam’s range is so ridiculous, isn’t it? And so often, I’ve found myself wishing that Freddie and Adam could have gotten together, because they would have had the greatest time. They’re so similar in some ways, personally and musically.”

Billie Eilish’s solo tour is ‘not the end’ of working with brother Finneas

OHMYGOSSIP — Billie Eilish’s decision to go on tour without her brother Finneas is “not the end” of their working relationship.
The 22-year-old pop star kicked off her ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ tour in Canada last month and it’s set to continue until next summer but she’s on the road without her sibling and producing partner Finneas, who is spending the autumn touring in support of his album ‘For Cryin’ Out Loud!’ – but Billie is adamant they aren’t parting ways for good.
She told the Los Angeles Times newspaper: “It’s really not the end of anything. You can’t be in two places at once.”
It comes after Finneas, 27, recently revealed his sister has been learning how to produce her own music without him after he set up a “basic” kit at her home studio.
Speaking to Guitar.com, Finneas said: “I’ve been setting up Billie’s recording studio for her so she can do home production without me, because she’s very good at it!
“And it’s funny, I’ve been giving her, like, the bare minimum of stuff, just so that she learns it all. Y’know what I mean? I’m like ‘Listen, I could give you all the stuff that I use now, but it took me years to even have a use for it. And, if I give you this basic thing, it’ll make sense to you right away’.”
The pair previously admitted they rowed during the making of Billie’s last album ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft’ with Finneas admitting he scolded his sibling for “not being honest enough” during the sessions and the singer criticising her brother for putting his feet up on the mixing desk while they were working.
During a recent appearance on YouTube show ‘Hot Ones Versus’, Billie said: “He’s a lot of times barefoot, a lot of the times in very filthy shoes … My face is right there [near the desk where his feet are].
“And actually we filmed so much in making the album that almost all the footage is his feet and then me.”

BTS star Jin to release debut solo album in November

OHMYGOSSIP — BTS star Jin is aiming to drop his debut solo album in November.
Following the release of the full version of his global hit ‘Super Tuna’ last week, his record label has responded to a report that claimed his new record will arrive next month.
BIGHIT MUSIC said in a statement: “Jin is currently preparing for a new album with the goal of releasing it in November. The detailed information will be disclosed once it is confirmed.”
The 31-year-old star is the final member of the K-pop boy band – also comprising RM, 30, Suga 31, Jung Kook, 27, J-Hope, 30, V, 28, and Jimin, 29 – to release a solo album.
Speaking to Weverse Magazine recently, Jin teased: “[The BTS members] all finished making their own albums before enlisting. “That made me think I better not wait too long to release mine after his is out, so I’m working to get it done fast.”
His 2022 debut solo single, ‘The Astronaut’, was co-written by Coldplay, and was released after the chart-topping septet teamed up with Chris Martin and co on the 2021 hit ‘My Universe’.
The music star – whose real name is Kim-Seok-jin – had been working as an assistant drill instructor at a training facility in South Korea as part of his conscription, and upon his return, he hugged 1,000 fans at a special homecoming event.
The day after he was discharged from his mandatory army stint in June, as part of the South Korean boy band’s ‘Festa’ celebrations, Jin treated fans to a performance of the extended version of 2021’s ‘Super Tuna’.
He later confessed he was on the brink of bursting into tears but didn’t want to show his fans how “emotional” he was feeling.
He said: “When you’re in the army, there’s a lot of restrictions in place, and none of the stuff you have is your own, which isn’t always easy.
“But once I was onstage, I had my fans in front of me, my own mic and in-ears, and everything about it felt just the way I remembered. It felt like I was home.”
He added: “The fans might not want to hear this, but I tried really hard not to let the feeling sink in.
“I mean, it was the very next day after I got out of the army. I didn’t have much time to practise, and it’d been forever since I last sang.”

RIIZE’s Seunghan departs band two days after his return was confirmed

OHMYGOSSIP — RIIZE’s Seunghan is departing the K-pop group just two days after his return was announced.
The 21-year-old star initially left the group in November 2023 due to the controversy surrounding leaked images of his alleged antics, such as kissing a woman in bed and smoking, and after a year-long hiatus, Wizard Production, the SM Entertainment arm that manages the group, shocked fans with the news on October 11 that he would be returning to the band.
However, following a backlash, a U-turn was made, and it was confirmed that Seunghan would leave the group for good.
In a lengthy apology, Wizard Production explained that they took on board feedback from their loyal fans – who go by the name BRIIZE – and ultimately decided it was in the rest of the band’s best interest that Seunghan should leave.
The statement read: “First, we sincerely apologise to all the BRIIZE [fandom name] fans for the distress and confusion caused by the announcement of Seunghan’s return on the 11th. We deeply regret that we prioritised the production’s stance over the growth that the six members of RIIZE have worked so hard to achieve, the invaluable support from Breeze that has been their greatest source of strength, and the precious time shared between RIIZE and Breeze fans.
“We initially made the decision with the hope that if Seunghan reflected on his past mistakes, returned to the group, and contributed to RIIZE‘s growth as a team once again, it could bring even greater happiness to both the artist and the fans. However, upon carefully reviewing each of the opinions and reactions sent by the fans after the announcement, we realized that our decision only led to further confusion and hurt for all of you.
“At the same time, Seunghan expressed his intention to leave the team for the sake of his fellow members and the fans. Respecting his decision, we inform you that Seunghan will not be rejoining RIIZE but will instead be departing from the group. We will support Seunghan as he continues to pursue his talents and dreams in the future.
“Above all, we deeply apologise for the difficulties and confusion caused to the six members of RIIZE, who have consistently given their best efforts for the fans since their debut, and who, more than anyone else, have constantly reflected and worked hard to bring RIIZE to where it is today.
“We will continue to support the members of RIIZE in every aspect, so they can grow even further. Wizard Production promises to act with greater caution in all matters moving forward, ensuring that the time RIIZE and BRIIZE share together remains long-lasting and full of happiness.”
Seunghan also penned a handwritten letter apologising for the “confusion” and wished his former bandmates – Shotaro, Eunseok, Sungchan, Wonbin, Sohee, and Anton – all the best for the future.
He wrote: “Hello, this is Seunghan.
“I know that a lot of people have been thinking seriously about my return, and I’ve been deeply aware of the seriousness of the situation. As I reflected on whether I was only thinking of myself and if I caused significant harm to the company and the members, whether it is befitting for me to be in a group that is deserving of so much love, the only emotions that I experienced were feeling worried and sorry.
“I believe the best decision for everyone is for me to leave the group.
“I no longer want the fans to experience confusion or pain, nor do I want any more harm to come to the members and the company because of me.
“I want to express my gratitude to the company and the members for making an effort to give me another chance, and I sincerely thank and apologise to those who supported me despite my shortcomings. I do not want the bond between RIIZE and BRIIZE, who have always supported and grown alongside each other, to be damaged. I also don’t want fans to argue because of me, when all they need is to continue loving RIIZE.
“From the bottom of my heart, I will continue to support the group I love and wish for RIIZE to receive even more love in the future.”
Apologising at the time of the leak, he said: “First of all, I sincerely want to apologise to the members and the fans. When the photos from before my debut were released, although they were photos of me, I was deeply disappointed and regretful about myself. If even I felt that way, I can’t even imagine how the members and fans by my side must have felt.”

‘I’m not interested in cleaning it’: James Bay still uses guitar with his blood marks

OHMYGOSSIP — James Bay still has blood marks on his guitar from shredding a little too hard with nerves during his early gigs.
The ‘Let It Go’ hitmaker refuses to clean up his instruments because they are a reminder of his journey as a musician.
Speaking to Guitar.com, he recalled: “The adrenaline was absolutely raging when I was first getting up in front of thousands of people that actually wanted to see me.
“I felt unbelievable but terrified, and I had to put all of that energy somewhere. So yeah, there’s blood on here, too.”
Sharing his “emotional” connection with his guitars, he added: “I’m not interested in cleaning it. I try not to be too careful with guitars. They’re very precious, yes; they’re very expensive. They’re beautiful pieces of art, but I live with them, I fight with them, I get emotional with them, and all that stuff that you do if you write on an instrument. I’m quite happy for it to get bashed up if that’s how it goes on.”
The 34-year-old singer-songwriter has released four albums to date, the most recent being this month’s ‘Changes All the Time’, and he recently confessed he finds making albums “dark and anxiety-inducing”.
The ‘Hold Back The River’ hitmaker has a “tricky relationship” with making albums but working on his latest record gave him “a new level of musical freedom”.
He told Forbes: “Making a record for me is, in truth, quite a dark and anxiety-inducing stressful experience, that I happen to adore. But me and making records have a tricky relationship.
“There were moments in this record where the storm clouds cleared, and I was able to exhale deeply as well as inhale deeply.
“I do thank Gabe [Simon, producer] and everybody that joined me in the studio for their love and patience.”
He continued: “To say one other thing about something that’s important to me in this new music.
“There were some of the moments where I really felt all right when I was just standing in a room with my guitar plugged in and it turned up loud. I f****** love doing that. Working out how to play a song with a band and then slamming through it. That is freedom.
“I said to a few people, I reached a new height, for me, at least, of a new level of musical freedom that I hadn’t felt before in making this music.
“It comes with that maturity to not give a f***.”

Charli XCX and Kesha join forces for Spring Breakers remix

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX and Kesha are dropping the ‘Spring Breakers’ remix on Monday (14.10.24).
On Sunday (13.10.24), a video was posted on a fan account for the ‘Apple’ hitmaker of a truck with a giant screen teasing the release of the ‘Brat’ remix featuring the ‘Tik Tok’ hitmaker.
Both stars have been teasing the release on social media.
Charli posted to X: “spring breakers remix w @KeshaRose tomorrow!”
Kesha also posted a graphic of her name in reverse in the ‘Brat’ green album cover style and tagged the ‘360’ hitmaker.
Charli’s ‘Brat’ era has produced a plethora of remixes featuring the biggest stars on the planet.
The pop star just dropped the ‘Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat’ LP featuring the likes of Ariana Grande, The 1975, Bon Iver, Lorde, Robyn, Troye Sivan and Billie Eilish.
Describing a Brat girl, Charli said: “That girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes. Who feels herself but maybe also has a breakdown.
“But kind of like parties through it, is very honest, very blunt. A little bit volatile. Like does dumb things. But it’s Brat. You’re Brat. That’s Brat.”
The album was nominated for this year’s Mercury Prize, losing out to English Teacher’s ‘This Could Be Texas’.
Kesha teaming with Charli comes as she prepares to drop a new album in 2025.
It will mark the singer’s first record as an independent artist after she announced her own record label, Kesha Records, in partnership with ADA.
The lead single, ‘Joyride’, was released back in July.
Kesha split from Kemosabe and Vector Management in December last year, six months after settling lawsuits with former producer and label owner Dr. Luke.
Her 2023 record ‘Gag Order’ was the last LP to come as part of her Kemosabe and RCA deal.
Back in March, she wrote on X: “First day I’ve owned my voice in 19 years. Welcome.”

Slayer’s Kerry King wants Dwayne Johnson to play him in biopic

OHMYGOSSIP — Slayer’s Kerry King would like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson or Vin Diesel to play him in a biopic.
The Thrash metal legend was asked which actor he would like to have portray him should a film be made about the ‘Angel of Death’ rockers, and he selected the 52-year-old wrestler-turned-actor and 57-year-old ‘Fast and Furious’ star.
Answering readers’ questions in the new issue of Metal Hammer magazine, Kerry, 60, said: “The only one that loosely fits the description [to play me] is Vin Diesel.
“If you go down that road you might also say The Rock, but I’m not nearly that giant! That would be awesome, though – I’ll say The Rock, because I like a lot of the stuff he’s in.”
The metallers got back together after a break of nearly five years to play a handful of festival last month.
When announcing the reunion shows, frontman Tom Araya, 63, said in a statement: “Nothing compares to the 90 minutes when we’re on stage playing live, sharing that intense energy with our fans. And to be honest, we have missed that.”
Guitarist Kerry added: “Have I missed playing live? Absolutely. Slayer means a lot to our fans; they mean a lot to us. It will be five years since we have seen them.”
The band bowed out of live performances in November 2019 when their lengthy farewell run of shows came to an end.
Shortly after Slayer completed their farewell tour, the band’s manager Rick Sales admitted he couldn’t see them reuniting “at all”.
Speaking in December 2019, he told the Los Angeles Times newspaper: “I’m not sensing [a reunion] at all … let’s put the touring to bed.
“I’ve got a couple of ideas [for future projects], but we haven’t made any decisions.
“Right now, they’re preoccupied with the end, and I imagine it’s emotional. It’s emotional for me … They’ve been doing this for so long. They just said, ‘OK, this is enough.’
“My analogy is Jerry Seinfeld, who had probably the biggest TV show when he went out on top. I respect the band for the decision. If you’re going to do it, this is the way.”
Meanwhile, away from Slayer, Kerry released his debut solo album, ‘From Hell I Rise’, in May.

Chase Stokes inspired Kelsea Ballerini’s new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Chase Stokes inspired Kelsea Ballerini’s new album.
The 31-year-old country singer is preparing for the release of her upcoming fifth record ‘Patterns’ and revealed that her ‘Outer Banks’ star boyfriend Chase, 32, was extremely influential when she was writing it.
She told PEOPLE: “He’s been such a big, beautiful part of my life for almost two years now.
“I’m really proud of the art that he’s inspired. And I’m really proud to be with someone who’s a truth-teller in his own art too. And to be aligned in that way and to share parts of our relationship and that kind of stuff, so openly and willingly, is really beautiful.”
And, Kelsea previously revealed she has turned to Chase for help when she landed a role in ABC medical drama ‘Doctor Odyssey’.
She told PEOPLE: “I’ve always called acting his world, and so whenever I was asking him questions about this opportunity, I was like, ‘What about this in your world?’ And he was like, ‘Hey, it’s just a world. I’m a part of it and now you’re a part of it. It’s not my world’. By the end of the conversation, I was like, ‘Okay, so you’ll run the scene with me?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’”
Kelsea and Chase started dating in early 2023 after she slid into his DMs.
She previously told the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast: “I was ready to open back up. I just felt, why not? I’ve never really dated; I don’t know how it works. I’m like, ‘Let’s just put ourselves out there; let’s just vibe.’ And it’s been fun.
“I’ve never seen his show, but I just knew of him, and I just swan dove right on in.”

Coldplay and Oasis to share equipment for Wembley gigs?

OHMYGOSSIP — Coldplay and Oasis are considering sharing equipment for their Wembley gigs next summer.
Oasis will play Wembley stadium in London in July and August before Coldplay begin their 10-date residency at the end of August and Oasis return in September and one option to keep environmental and financial costs down is for the bands to share some equipment.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Oasis will play Wembley first in July and August with five shows at the stadium. Chris Martin and co then ship in for their 10-date residency at the end of August and into September, before Noel and Liam return three weeks later.
“Coldplay have chosen to keep their shows mainly at Wembley because it’s better for the environment.
“And when Oasis start hauling their stuff in at the end of July, it’s been mooted they could leave some stuff behind which could be shared by Coldplay’s teams.”
While the bands have had a rivalry in the past, they could be persuaded to put that aside for the sake of the environment and larger profits.
The insider said: “Obviously their shows are completely different but kit is kit — and it is an idea which has been bandied around.
“Coldplay always go out of their way to minimise the impact their shows have on the environment.
“And after their old rivalry with Oasis, some people think this could be a very eco-friendly olive branch.
“Plus it keeps the huge costs down – which would be a win for everyone.”

The Cure’s Robert Smith speaks out on dynamic ticket pricing controversy: ‘It’s a scam…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Smith thinks dynamic ticket pricing is just a way to “scam” fans.
The 65-year-old rock star was “shocked” at the profit that can be made by sell-out tours and insisted that artists don’t “need” to generate the kind of money that such ventures often pull in as he spoke out against the practice of allowing businesses to adjust ticket prices in real-time based on factors such as demand.
He told The Sunday Times: “I was shocked by how much profit is made.
“I thought, ‘We don’t need to make all this money.’ My fights with the label have all been about how we can price things lower. The only reason you’d charge more for a gig is if you were worried that it was the last time you would be able to sell a T-shirt.
“But if you had the self-belief that you’re still going to be here in a year’s time, you’d want the show to be great so people come back. You don’t want to charge as much as the market will let you. If people save on the tickets, they buy beer or merch. There is goodwill, they will come back next time. It is a self-fulfilling good vibe and I don’t understand why more people don’t do it.
“It was easy to set ticket prices, but you need to be pig-headed. We didn’t allow dynamic pricing because it’s a scam that would disappear if every artist said, ‘I don’t want that!’ But most artists hide behind management. ‘Oh, we didn’t know,’ they say. They all know. If they say they do not, they’re either f***ing stupid or lying. It’s just driven by greed.”
The ‘Just Like Heaven’ rocker – who is the only remaining continuous member of the Cure – joked that he might have been coming across as a “curmudgeon” but insisted that the modern world of live concerts has become about “branding and sponsorship” above all else.
He said: “It’s insane. It’s greed, inequality, monetisation. I’ve realised some of my reactions to the modern world are a bit extreme, that I’m becoming an old grouch and that it’s easy to tip over to talking about the fond memories of a world that’s disappeared … but there are moments I just want to leave the front door shut!
“It’s become about branding, sponsorship and betting — it’s just hair, tattoos and selling stuff. This is really curmudgeonly.”

Daniel O’Donnell struggled to achieve success in the early days of his career: ‘It was hard…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Daniel O’Donnell struggled to achieve success in the early days of his music career.
The 62-year-old singer has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide but admitted that when he first started out, it was “hard” and he wasn’t even sure things were going to work out when he was first trying to make it big in the 1980s.
He told the Sunday Express’ Style magazine: “It was hard. From 1984 to 86, it wasn’t working. I went to see the label boss and said I don’t think it’s going to work.
“He said they were getting good reach on the album and I should stick it out. He was right as 1986 was my pinch-me moment.
“It was like somebody switched on a light. Everywhere we went was packed. It was like a wildfire – I couldn’t believe it!”
The ‘I Just Want To Dance With You’ singer got his big break in the end thanks to pirate radio in his native Ireland as he worked his way from the club circuit to theatres.
He said: “They were playing all my stuff – maybe because I was young and they were young. I just wanted to sing the songs I loved.”
Daniel is gearing up to undertake another UK tour in promotion of his greatest hits album ‘Through The Years ‘ and revealed that, more 40 years on from the start of his career, he is now on first-name terms with many of his loyal fans.
“I’ve got to know a lot of the fans – I know many of them by name. Interacting with them is lovely. I get as much out of it as they do.”
