The Kills rocker Jamie Hince created fake side-project

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Hince created a fake side project when he was writing songs for The Kills’ new album.
The 54-year-old rocker suffers with paralysis in some of his fingers so decided to ditch the guitar and learn piano, and he found it “liberating” to imagine he was working on something else when it came to crafting new tracks for his and Alison Mosshart’s latest record ‘God Games’.
He told the Daily Star Sunday’s Wired column: “I learned piano and had a euphoric episode, almost manic, for six months.
“I couldn’t stop. I took up sewing. I built a photo studio. The only thing I haven’t really done is play guitar.
“I absolutely wanted to find something else.
“I made myself believe that I had a [fake] side-project called LA Hex and I started writing songs like that and it was really liberating.
“And when I played a song to Alison, she said to me, ‘It’s great, it’s The Kills! I can’t wait to sing on it.’ ”
Jamie hasn’t given up the guitar entirely but has had to “adapt” his playing style.
He explained: “It’s OK because I can play with my own style and adapt.
“I can’t use the middle finger of my left hand.
“I can only play minor chords, bar chords, which is wonderful because it gives me things like ‘Better Day’. ”
However, the ‘Doing It To Death’ hitmaker struggled when he played with Iggy Pop earlier this year.
He admitted: “I played guitar for Iggy Pop earlier this year and I found it very hard.
“You might think his songs are simple – most have only two or three chords.
“But it was very difficult without this finger.”

90s star Kenny Thomas felt ‘let down’ when chart success ended after making ‘worst music video’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kenny Thomas felt “sad and let down” when chart shows refused to play his music.
The 55-year-old singer enjoyed major success with his debut album ‘Voices’ when it was released in 1991 but claimed that the video for the lead single from his follow-up record ‘Wait For Me’ was “one of the worst pop videos ever made” and hinted that it cost him his career.
He told Classic Pop magazine: “ The problem was the vid for the lead single, ‘Trippin On Your Love’. It cost loads and in my opinion is one of the worst pop videos ever made. The shows that you need to nudge it up the charts like ‘The Chart Show’ as well all refused to play it because it was so shoddy.
“I felt sad and let down, but there was also a feeling of being liberated. I left my manager, my record company and was on my own. Going through that, I really did discover who I really was again.”
The ’Thinking About Your Love’ hitmaker turned to a career in acupuncture following his time in music and added that it was meant to be because he was able to intervene when his daughter was diagnosed with cancer.
He said: “I dived in on acupuncture and alternative medicine about 2006-07. I hadn’t studied for years and I thought, ‘I’ll give it a go.’ I was up ’til four or five in the morning writing my dissertation and researching.
“Sometimes you think, ‘Why am I doing this?’ So the irony of it is when my daughter Christina became ill in 2017 with cancer I’ve learned why I was meant to do all that. Now I’m armed in a different way to fight for my daughter on a different level to what traditional medicine has to offer. She’s now lived 13 times beyond what they originally said she would.
“She’s here and she’s living with a disease as opposed to dying from it, which is probably the best we can ask for. If we had gone down certain routes back then I don’t think she’d be here.”

Robbie Williams reveals if he ever snogged any of his Take That bandmates #

OHMYGOSSIP — Robbie Williams never snogged anyone in Take That.
The ‘Angels’ hitmaker – who is now father to Teddy, 10, Charlie, eight, Coco, four, Beau, three, with his wife Ayda Field, 44 – denied ever locking lips with bandmates Gary Barlow, 52, Howard Donald, 55, Jason Orange, 53, or Mark Owen, 51, when they were at the height of their fame.
When asked if kissed any of the lads, 49-year-old pop icon – who left the ‘Never Forget’ group in 1995 – told the Sun newspaper “No”.
Robbie shared that he feels he has “used up all the natural good stuff” and has therefore “got the manopause” having “used everything up” during his Take That boyband days and when he went solo and began to live it up with Oasis at Glastonbury in the 90s.
He said: “The hair is thinning, the testosterone has left the building, the serotonin is not really here and the dopamine said goodbye a long time ago.
“I’ve used up all of the natural good stuff. I’ve got the manopause.
“My daughter says to me, ‘Daddy’s lazy’. I don’t like the term ‘lazy’ as that’s how I was described when I was younger.
“The reality is that I’m just f****** knackered from what I did to myself in the Nineties and bits of the 2000s.”
The ‘Let Me Enterain You’ singer detailed suffering with his “different sleep pattern” – which is a recognised symptom of men producing less and less testosterone as they age alongside mood swings, loss of libido and muscle mass, a condition of andropause – which involves not getting up until the mid-afternoon amid defeating his sleeping pill addiction.
Robbie – who is gearing up to release a four-part Netflix documentary about his life and times on November 8, titled ‘Robbie Williams’ – said: “I have a different sleep pattern to other people.
“I’m magnetically drawn to 4 am and falling asleep at six, and there’s nothing I can do about it.
“I go to bed at 11 pm and I’m just lying there completely awake and completely alert until 5 am.
“It’s one of the banes of Ayda’s existence that she doesn’t get me until 1 pm.”

Kylie Minogue feels as if her Las Vegas residency is coming at a ‘good time’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Minogue feels as if her Las Vegas residency has come at “a good time”.
The 55-year-old pop superstar is gearing up to be the first-ever headliner at the 1,000-capacity Voltaire theatre at the Sin City hotel The Venetian Resort – which kicks off on Friday, November 3 for a 20-date string of performances of her ‘More Than Just A Residency’ show that is due to conclude in May next year – and has recently shaken off the belief it is a place for “the twilight of one’s career” after many music veterans like Sir Elton John, 76, Celine Dion, 55, and others have done similar shows.
She told Music Week: “Vegas seemed to be more for the twilight of one’s career, but in the interim it has had this rejuvenation. That is not taking away from what that was, because it has worked so well for people historically. But it’s true that it’s pretty happening right now, so I thought it was a good time.”
The ‘Spinning Around’ legend is known for having showcased a number of different musical styles over the years and knew almost 20 years ago following the completion of her greatest hits tour in 2005 that her back catalogue – which includes early SAW albums ‘Enjoy Yourself’ and Rhythm of Love’ as well more experimental records like 1997’s ‘Impossible Princess’ and 2001 smash hit ‘Fever’- should have been in Sin City even then.
She said: “We would joke that I was definitely going to end up in Vegas. Many years ago – on the ‘Showgirl’ tour in 2005 – we were saying, ‘This should be in Vegas.’ And then Aphrodite in 2011 should absolutely have been in Vegas. It would’ve made way more sense to be there as opposed to packing up precision water fountains in a truck and schlepping them to the next location.”
The ‘Tension’m hitmaker revealed she has found the preparation “overwhelming” and has been worrying about everyone getting their tickets okay.
Kylie said: “It has been overwhelming. My ticket anxiety is real. I have a lot of shows where I have ticket anxiety particularly this one. It’s such an intimate venue and I’m hoping people can get their tickets. But overall, it’s super-exciting.”

SZA thought Drake was ‘trying to sabotage’ her making Slime You Out

OHMYGOSSIP — SZA thought Drake was “trying to sabotage” her while making ‘Slime You Out’.
The 33-year-old singer admitted that she was suspicious of the ‘Hotline Bling’ rapper when they worked together on their Billboard Hot 100 chart topper because she never “won’t trust” anyone who thinks her first take vocal is good.
She told Wall Street Journal Magazine: “If you accept my first draft, I won’t trust you.
“I just handed in the first draft to Drake, and he’s putting it on his album. I’m scared because I handed in second vocals, and he didn’t use that. And now I’m like, ‘Are you trying to sabotage me?’ I know that’s not true. I literally know that’s not true, but that’s how bad I feel about my first draft. When things come from an effortless space, I almost can’t enjoy it.”
The ‘Kiss Me More’ hitmaker- whose real name is Solana Imani Rowe – also detailed how she sought mental health treatment from someone who wasn’t a therapist.
She said: “After I had box breathed myself for three months and didn’t get better, I called her in a f***ing frenzy like, ‘I’m about to commit myself to an institution today, I need help!’ I said, ‘What form of therapy do you do? DBT[dialectical behavioral therapy]?’”
”She was like, ‘I don’t have a clinical form of therapy because I’m not a licensed therapist, honey.’ I thought you knew that.’ It turns out she was not a board-certified therapist. She was a f****** life coach.”
The ‘Snooze’ singer explained that going to recording studios is one her favourite forms of therapy as she feels “better and empty’ after an hours-long session.
SZA said: “When I leave the studio, I feel better and empty. There’s no better sleep than empty-brain sleep, and that can only come after I’ve been in the studio for 10 hours and done something good in there.”

Peter Jackson’s vision for final Beatles song reduced George Harrison’s son to tears

OHMYGOSSIP — The video for The Beatles’ new song ‘Now and Then’ made George Harrison’s son cry, director Peter Jackson has shared.
The late guitarist was part of the legendary group alongside Sir Paul McCartney, John Lennon and Sir Ringo Starr and his son Dhani, 45, and widow Olivia Harrison have been responsible for keeping his legacy alive and making decisions on his behalf about his music and the band on his behalf since his death in November 2001 at the age of 58 from lung cancer.
‘Lord of the Rings’ director Jackson has revealed that Dhani was “immediately” moved when he saw his early work on the short film to accompany the song and he knew then that his concept was correct.
In an interview on the official Beatles website, he said: “After we had separated John’s voice on the demo tape over a year ago, Giles [Martin] had produced an early mix of ‘Now And Then’. This had been sent to me back in 2022. I loved it. Since then I must have listened to ‘Now And Then’ over 50 times, purely for pleasure.
“Now I started listening to it intently for different reasons. I was hoping that ideas or inspiration for the short film would somehow float up from the music. And that began to happen. As I kept listening, it felt like the song was creating ideas and images that started forming in my head – without any conscious effort from me.
“We wanted the short film to bring a few tears to the eye, but generating emotion using only archive footage is a tricky thing. Fortunately, the simple power of this beautiful song did a lot of the work for us, and we finished the first 30 or 40 secs of the film fairly quickly.
“Having done that, we jumped straight to the ending and tried to craft something that could adequately sum up the enormity of The Beatles’ legacy – in the last few seconds of their final recording. This proved to be impossible … I realised we needed the imagination of every viewer to do what we couldn’t, and have each viewer create their own personal moment of farewell to The Beatles – but we had to gently steer everyone to that place. I had some vague ideas, but didn’t really know how to achieve this.
“Fortunately, Dhani Harrison happened to be visiting NZ at this time. I discussed the ending with him, and described one vague idea I’d been toying with. His eyes immediately filled with tears – so that is the way we went.”
Jackson was responsible for isolating Lennon’s voice from the 1970s demo – originally recorded with the late musician playing the piano as well – which had been presented to Paul by Yoko Ono back in 1994 when the three remaining Beatles were working on new music for their ‘Anthology’ project.
Despite his success and skill as a director and the fact he had worked with Paul and Ringo closely on the ‘Get Back’ documentary, Jackson, 62, felt the pressure being the man responsible for creating the last ever Beatles music video.
He said: “When Apple asked me to make the music video, I was very reluctant – I thought my next few months would be a hell of a lot more fun if that tricky task was somebody else’s problem, and I could be like any other Beatles fan, enjoying the night-before-Christmas anticipation as the release of a new Beatles song and music video approached … I could have that experience once again – all I had to do was say no to The Beatles.
“To be honest, just thinking about the responsibility of having to make a music video worthy of the last song The Beatles will ever release produced a collection of anxieties almost too overwhelming to deal with. My lifelong love of The Beatles collided into a wall of sheer terror at the thought of letting everyone down. This created intense insecurity in me because I’d never made a music video before, and was not able to imagine how I could even begin to create one for a band that broke up over 50 years ago, had never actually performed the song, and had half of its members no longer with us.
“It was going to be far easier to do a runner.”

Zayn Malik pens music and stars in for animated film 10 Lives – and duets with Bridgerton star

OHMYGOSSIP — Zayn Malik is penning the music for the animation ’10 Lives’ and is set to duet with ‘Bridgeton’ star Simone Ashley.
The former One Direction star is executive music producer for the film and voices “tough-guy twins” Cameron and Kirk alongside Simone, 28, as student Rose.
The movie “tells the story of a pampered and selfish cat who takes his many lives for granted. After carelessly losing his ninth live he begs for a second chance — and an opportunity to prove he can learn from his mistakes. When his wish is finally granted, however, he learns that it comes with some caveats.”
Bill Nighy and Mo Gilligan are also among the voice cast.
Casting directors and music supervisors Robyn Klein and Jeremy Ross told Variety: “We always love bringing the worlds of film and music together and could not be more excited that we got to do this with Zayn on ‘10 Lives.’ A great film and a great song come from the same place. Combining his songwriting, acting and vocal skills, Zayn brought joy, emotion, and depth to the film while connecting and highlighting all of its important themes. This is Zayn at his absolute best.”
Simone is best known for playing Kate in the Netflix period drama ‘Bridgerton’ and Olivia Hanan in the streamer’s hit teen sex comedy drama ‘Sex Education’.
Zayn – who has three-year-old daughter Khai with ex-partner Gigi Hadid – is also currently working on his fourth studio album, a follow-up to ‘Nobody Is Listening’.
The 30-year-old singer released his first new song in two years in July.
Zayn shared ‘Love Like This’ – marking his first release through his new label Mercury Records – alongside a video which sees him zooming around New York City on a motorbike as he pursues a love interest.
In the song, he sings about diving into a new romance: “I guess there’s love like this/ Usually I never wanna jump like this … I guess there’s faith like this/ Give you everything and you can skate like this/ But I think I gotta take that risk ’cause I can not go back/ And I’m loving what you say, what you say, what you say when you’re on my line.”
The star previously insisted his new material will sound different to his previous releases.
Speaking on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast, he explained: “I’ve got a few really sad ones [songs], yeah. “It’s a different sound for me, and it’s got like some more narrative going on like real-life experiences and stuff.”
He added of ‘Love Like This’: “It’s just a summer jam. It’s a good vibe. It just feels like summer.”

In a statement, frontman Tom Ogden said: “Headlining our biggest show yet at Wythenshawe Park is going to be THE moment of our career so far for us.
“It makes me think of me and Joe going to watch Oasis and The Stone Roses at Heaton Park back when we were teenagers, and how important these big summer Manchester shows are to people.
“It made us want to be in a band, affected what we wore and changed our lives forever.
“To misquote Dorothy, ‘Lads, I’ve a feeling we’re not on Oldham Street anymore!’”
Tickets are set to go on sale on November 10 at 10am GMT, while anyone who pre-orders the band’s upcoming fifth album – which is due out next summer – will get access to a pre-sale the previous morning.
Tom recently opened up about their latest single ‘To Do List (After The Breakup)’, and pointed to the significance of Manchester music.
He explained: “We initially kicked the song around as a band in a way that we did when we first started – all in the round together at our rehearsal room.
“It’s something we’ve not really been able to do for a long time but it felt so natural and euphoric for the five of us!
“Some of the song’s DNA lies within the local Manchester bands we grew up listening to from our parents’ record collections, bands like New Order and James.”
It was inspired by a poem of the same name by Rupi Kaur, which “captured the feeling of heartbreak so accurately”.
He added: “We thought it was a great concept for a song and reached out to Rupi about using some of her words and she kindly gave us permission to use them.”

‘Biblical!’ Liam Gallagher gives first thoughts on new Beatles song Now And Then

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher has described The Beatles’ final song as “biblical”.
The former Oasis frontman – who has long been open about his adoration for the Fab Four – has given his verdict on new track ‘Now And Then’ which uses Artificial Intelligence technology to reunite surviving members Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr with late bandmates John Lennon and George Garrison through old recordings.
Taking to X – formerly Twitter – Liam wrote: “Now n Then [is] absolutely incredible biblical celestial heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time.
“Long live The Beatles.”
A fan replied pointing out how difficult the process must have been for Paul and Ringo as they piece the track together without their late friends.
Liam added: “Very sad but beautiful at the same time. This is life I guess it’s confusingly delightful all at the same time.”
And when another follower admitted they were worried the ‘Wonderwall’ singer might not like the track – which is set to be released later today (02.11.23) – he responded in a typically blunt way.
He quipped: “The Beatles could s*** in my hand bag I’d still hide my polo mints in there.”
The song was first recorded as a demo in the 1970s by John Lennon, though it was never released.
Paul, 81, recently explained that he and Ringo, 83, completed the song last year, and utilised AI technology to improve the quality of Lennon’s vocal recording.
In an interview with the BBC, the ‘Hey Jude’ singer said: “There it was, John’s voice, crystal clear. It’s quite emotional.
“And we all play on it, it’s a genuine Beatles recording.
“In 2023 to still be working on Beatles music, and about to release a new song the public haven’t heard, I think it’s an exciting thing.”

Eric Cantona career change inspired by Vincent Van Gogh

OHMYGOSSIP — Eric Cantona took inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh for his new music career.
The Manchester United legend – who has swapped scoring goals for belting out songs on stage – has just finished a UK tour following the release of his debut EP ‘I’ll Make My Own Heaven’ and his career change is influenced by iconic artists across all mediums.
He told the Sodarjerker podcast: “I learned the life of Van Gogh. All the people that we think are crazy… Society killed him becuase he was in another world.
“We have to be brave or crazy enough for a footballer to become an actor or an actor to become a singer.
“I play in this big circus which is this wonderful world. They play with us so we have to play with them.”
The retired footballer insisted there are parallels between his time in the sport and his unexpected career twists and turns.
He added: “I always performed and always played. I play football, I play as an actor, now I play with music and words.
“I’m a kid – I just want to play in front of people, to feel this adrenaline. This is my job.”
Getting that connection from a live crowd is a huge motivation when it comes to his move into music.
He explained: “At the beginning I did it because I wanted to be on stage in front of people, that is what I really like.
“[In] lockdown we have seen football without fans. Everyone hated it. The fans are the most important part to take me even higher.”
Meanwhile, his own father – who is a “very good painter” – helped push him in an artistic direction, and his interest in music came in his teenage years when he first heard The Doors.
He said: “My father is a pinter, 82 years old. He doesn’t sell because he doesn’t want to, but he’s a very good painter.
“My mother doesn’t paint or make music but she is [an] artist – she spoke to animals and flowers every day.
“My father always gives us this sense of observation of the world: ‘Ah look at this light, look at this colour.’ ”

The British rockers – whose latest record, ‘Hackney Diamonds’, became their 14th number one album last week – were given the accolade to mark one billion career streams in the UK, as recorded by the Official Charts Company.
The band – who are made up of Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood – have become the “longest-active artist” to receive the prize, according to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
Dr. Jo Twist OBE, BPI Chief Executive, said: “Few artists have crossed generational divides in quite the way the Rolling Stones have.
“Their iconic songs and albums are era-defining, but the band remain as contemporary as ever.

Sir Ringo Starr says new Beatles song Now and Then is like getting the late John Lennon back

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Ringo Starr says the new Beatles song ‘Now and Then’ is the “closest we’ll ever come to having” the late John Lennon back.
The 83-year-old drummer became very emotional whilst working with Sir Paul McCartney – the only other surviving member of the iconic band – on their new Artificial Intelligence-assisted song.
The track is a demo recorded by Lennon – who was killed in December 1980 at the age of just 40 – in the wake of The Beatles break-up. It features his voice and him playing the piano at his Dakota building apartment in New York.
Ringo and Paul, 81, used the same technology to isolate and improve Lennon’s vocal that was employed to enhance the audio in Peter Jackson’s documentary ‘The Beatles: Get Back’.
Discussing the recording process with Radio Times magazine, Ringo said: “He called me up and said he’d like to work on ‘Now and Then’, ‘What do you think?’ ‘I think it’s great.
“So he put the bass on, he sent the files to me. I put the drums on. It was the closest we’ll ever comes to having him [John] back in the room so it was very emotional for all of us. It was like John was there, you know?”
The demo had originally been sent to Paul in 1994 by John’s widow Yoko Ono, 90, when the members of The Beatles decided to create new songs for the ‘Anthology’ project which consisted of a three-part television documentary series and a three-volume set of double albums. Those ’90s sessions produced the new songs ‘Free As A Bird’ and ‘Real Love’.
‘Now and Then’ also features guitar parts recorded by late member George Harrison – who died in November 2001 at the age of 58 from lung cancer – recorded during the ‘Anthology’ sessions.
In a statement announcing the song, Paul said: “There it was, John’s voice, crystal clear. It’s quite emotional. And we all play on it, it’s a genuine Beatles recording. In 2023, to still be working on Beatles music, and about to release a new song the public haven’t heard, I think it’s an exciting thing.”

Geri Horner says Spice Girl reunions are like reuniting with university friends

OHMYGOSSIP — Geri Horner will always reunite with the Spice Girls because they are like her “university friends” and the five will always share a unique bond.
The 51-year-old singer loves being with her bandmates Victoria Beckham, 49, Melanie Brown, 48, Emma Bunton, 47, and Mel C, 49, and insists the bond between the women is unbreakable because they have shared a unique experience together.
Appearing on the Frosted Tips podcast, she said: “It’s a unique experience. I think it’s like having university friends or school friends, you have a specific time together and go on an adventure together that is unique.”
When asked if that meant if they would soon be getting back together, Geri responded: “Potentially. Everything has its time. I love being with the girls so if and when that opportunity arises then great.”

‘They want to keep you like an idiot’: Suggs feels the music industry ‘manipulates’ working-class performers

OHMYGOSSIP — Suggs has bemoaned the way the “pop star business” treats people from working-class backgrounds.
The Madness frontman – whose real name is Graham McPherson – feels that the music industry tries to “manipulate” those from humble beginnings and has smartened up to it during his decades in the spotlight.
Suggs told The Daily Telegraph newspaper: “I was very aware that I’d come from a very disparate background. I thought if I’m going to have kids, I’m going to make sure they’re not going to go through what I went through. You don’t know what’s going to happen. You can’t decide you’re going to have a happy family, but I was certainly aware that I was hoping – well, primarily, not to abandon them. To look after them. And that’s what I’ve tried to do.
“The pop star business is such a ridiculous carry on, so it has been great to temper it with normality. Charlie Higson says the problem with being a pop star is you are perpetually 18. They want to keep you like an idiot so they can manipulate you. But you can get used to it.”
Suggs explained that he and other members of Madness disagreed on a number of issues during the coronavirus pandemic.
The 62-year-old star said: “My band was like a microcosm of society. Everything got so polarised. We were disagreeing on everything – on vaccination, on lockdown – to the point where I wondered if we would actually get back together. When you can’t speak face to face, everything is exaggerated. There were bits where I was infuriated by the rest of them. Arguing over email is exhausting.”
The ‘Our House’ hitmaker confessed that he often disagrees with the rest of the ska band – which also consists of Chris Foreman, Mike Barson, Lee Thompson, Dan Woodgate and Mark Bedford – but explained that they always channel their feelings into material that reflects their “moral compass”.
Suggs said: “I didn’t want Brexit, I was pro-vaccination and I followed all the rules of the lockdown, then Boris (Johnson) came and pulled the rug from under my feet. I totally disagreed with some of the band’s opinions, but everyone wrote about their own feelings at that particular time.
“Ultimately we’re not political as an outlet, we’re a pop band, but we’ve always had a hidden and darker meaning. Unconsciously, we’ve always had a kind of moral compass.”
