The Killers announce new compilation LP Rebel Diamonds featuring brand new track

OHMYGOSSIP — The Killers are releasing a compilation album.
The rock band – which currently consists of frontman Brandon Flowers, 42, guitarist Dave Keuning, 47, Ronnie Vannucci Jr, 47, and Mark Stoermer, 46 – will be releasing ‘Rebel Diamonds’ on 8 December, a 20-song list of their biggest hits from over the course of their 20-year career.
What’s more, the ‘Mr. Brightside’ hitmakers have also recorded brand-new track ‘Spirit’ for the album.
In a promotional video, Brandon said: “See it’s been said that what’s remembered lives, and we’ve racked up stadiums full of memories the past twenty years, enough to fill lifetimes. Twenty songs for twenty years – ‘Rebel Diamonds’.”
The album is available for pre-order now, and doing so will give access to an “exclusive ticket pre-sale code” for their upcoming tour.
This Grammy-nominated group released their seventh album ‘‘Pressure Machine’ in 2021 but Brandon recently admitted that their planned follow-up record wasn’t the kind of music they envisioned themselves making so he pulled the plug entirely.
Brandon told the Times newspaper: “Halfway through recording I realised, ‘I can’t do this. This isn’t the kind of record… I think this will be the… I don’t think you’ll see us making this type of music any more.”
“This is the crisis I’m in. The Killers are my identity and our songs fill the seats, but I’m more fulfilled making music like ‘Pressure Machine’.”
“I found a side of myself writing it that was strong. This was the guy I’d been looking for! I’m as proud of ‘Hot Fuss’ as you can be for something you did when you were 20, but I’m not 20. So I’m thinking about the next phase of my life.”

Blink-182 have been approached for Taylor Swift style concert movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Blink-182 are approached “every few months” about making a Taylor Swift-style concert movie.
The ‘All The Small Things’ pop punk icons – made up of Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge – have had similar ideas to ‘The Eras Tour’ film brought up to them in some form, and they’re open to the concept.
Tom told Cinema Blend: “It always comes across the desk every few months. Some version.
“We’ve talked about doing something on this next tour that we just launched, like, today.”
While they’re up for it, the musician – who returned to the fold earlier this year as the band’s famous lineup got back together – joked fans might be tempted to the cinema for “d*** jokes” rather than the songs themselves.
He said: “We’ve definitely talked about versions. You know, Taylor is a phenomenon. She can demand ticket sales.
“You and I both know how hard it is to get people to want to go to a movie theater.
“I don’t know if people would come to see Blink in a movie theater for the music, but they might come for the d*** jokes. So maybe we focus on that?”
Taylor’s concert film hit cinemas last month and became the highest grossing concert film or documentary ever, with its opening weekend pulling in $123.5 million around the world.
Meanwhile, Blink-182’s full reunion came after Tom was there to support Mark during his cancer battle, which helped mend their friendship.
He previously revealed how Mark’s diagnosis inspired him to rejoin Blink in 2022, after he departed the group in 2015 and was replaced by Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba.
Tom said: “I remember telling my wife, ‘I don’t think I’m ever going to play music again, I don’t think I’m ever gonna tour again.’
“Until Mark told me he was sick, and then I was like, that’s the only thing I wanted to do.”

Megan Thee Stallion goes metal with Spiritbox remix of Cobra

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan Thee Stallion has released a metal remix of ‘Cobra’ featuring Spiritbox.
The ‘WAP’ hitmaker recruited the Canadian heavy metallers for the heavier version of her latest single.
Bandleader Courtney LaPlante provides backing and also sings in clean vocals: “Leave me alone in the dark/I am shedding my skin/I need to harden my heart/To protect myself but the pain remains within.”
‘Cobra’ was Megan’s first self-funded track and the debut song to drop on Megan’s own Hot Girl Productions.
The rapper’s new song reflects her “courage and self-reliance”, much like the snake it shares a title with, after being shot in the foot by fellow rapper Tory Lanez and taking legal action against 1501 Certified Entertainment for allegedly trying to “interfere” with her control over her music and for allegedly trying to keep her locked into a contract.
On Instagram, Megan said: “Cobras exemplify courage and self-reliance.
“They stand tall and fierce in the face of challenges, teaching one to tap into their inner strength and rely on oneself to conquer their threats. Emulating the cobra helps one be more confident in the person they are within.”
On ‘Cobra’, she raps about being “depressed” and hitting “rock bottom”.
However, the lyrics also allude to someone regaining their strength and self-worth.
Megan says in the intro to the music video: “Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past over and over again.”
The 28-year-old star released her previous LPs, 2020’s ‘Good News’ and ‘Traumazine’, on 300 Entertainment and 1501 Certified, but she no longer has a record deal so is putting out her next record independently.
Megan recently teased her next album will mark a new chapter.
She told Billboard: “It’s definitely coming very soon. I’m really excited about this chapter of my life because I feel like I’m finally closing all the old chapters, and now I’m starting with a blank slate. Very fresh, very new. I think Thee Hotties are gonna be so excited. I’m trying different things. I got a lot of things that I produced with Ju and with some new producers.”

Frank Ocean previews new track for 24 hours

OHMYGOSSIP — Frank Ocean has posted a preview of a new song.
The ‘Chanel’ hitmaker took to his Instagram Story to share the clip of a new track that has a runtime of just under four minutes.
Since his acclaimed 2016 LP ‘Blonde’, fans have had a slew of singles, including ‘DHL’, ‘In My Room’, ‘Cayendo’ and ‘Dear April’.
Ocean has also aired unreleased music on his Apple Music 1 ‘Blonded Radio’ show.
However, fans are still waiting for new material.
During his Coachella set earlier this year, the music star confirmed a new album is on the way.
Upon returning to the stage after six years at the world-famous festival in April, he teased: “I wanna talk about why we’re here … because it’s not about the new album… not that there’s NOT a new album.”
Excited fans waited over an hour for the star to take to the stage just after 11pm, despite his scheduled stage time of 10.05pm.
The 36-year-old star had previously made it known that he would release new music as one-off singles instead of album form, but he seemingly had a change of heart as he teased a new record on a poster for his merchandise.
The print noted that a “fictitious recording artist” (seemingly Ocean) preferred “the singles distribution model as opposed to the long-form album model,” as it was “more suited to modern consumption habits.”
The teaser came with the admission: “The Recording Artist has since changed his mind about the singles model, and is again interested in more durational bodies of work.”
The ‘Swim Good’ hitmaker is no longer signed to a label, after splitting from Def Jam Recordings before the release of ‘Blonde’.

Nick Cave gives fresh update on new Bad Seeds album

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Cave is about to start mixing the new Bad Seeds album.
The follow-up to 2019’s ‘Ghosteen’ is edging closer and closer to being finalised.
In a Facebook update this week, Nick wrote: “Dear All,
I am packing ready to leave Los Angeles today, then heading to Buffalo to mix the new Bad Seeds album, but I just wanted to tell you what an immense pleasure the North American tour has been.”
In July, he confirmed he was “back in the studio finishing the new Bad Seeds record.”
So far, Nick and his band have performed a new song called ‘To Be Found’.
Nick said of the track on his AMA site Red Hand Files: “The sentiment is simple and softly spoken, the song unable to even declare its name, but still it is a special song, full of unspecified emotional impact and a great pleasure to play. I think I’ll call the song “To Be Found”.”
Nick previously said of the writing process for the collection: “The initial sitting down comes from a complete absence of ideas, and every line I write seems to affirm the fact that I am not very good at what I do! It’s a very slow process of just collecting a line together and putting it next to another one … it’s micro-managing these words to get something going, and it just grows. That initial thing, it’s not very nice. I wish it wasn’t so.”
The star added: “I’ve read Neil Young wrote the whole of ‘Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere’ in bed one day when he had the flu. Is that true? And I’m like, ‘F*** you, man!’ – I never liked that record anyway.”

Why Dolly Parton turned down Super Bowl show ‘many times’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dolly Parton turned down the Super Bowl halftime show “many times” because she didn’t think she was “big enough”.
The 77-year-old country legend admitted there has never been the right moment for her to agree to perform at the NFL showpiece game – which next year will be headlined by Usher and has previously seen the likes of Beyonce, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Coldplay take to the stage – and she felt particularly daunted by being part of such a “big production”.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “I couldn’t do it because of other things, or I just didn’t think I was big enough to do it – to do that big of a production.
“When you think about those shows, those are big, big productions. I’ve never done anything with that big of a production. I don’t know if I could have. I think at the time that’s what I was thinking.”
However, the ‘9 to 5’ singer admitted she’d be open to the idea a bit more now as she is gearing up to release her first rock album, ‘Rockstar’, later this month.
She admitted: “It would make more sense. I might be able to do a production show.”
Dolly had never considered making rock music until she was invited to be inducted into the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame, which she initially declined because she “didn’t want to take away from somebody that has spent their life in that world.”
She recalled thinking: “They’re going to put me in the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame and somebody like Meat Loaf or some of these other great artists never even made it?”
She added: “They told me all the ways that people’s music has influenced other people around the world … and told me about other people that were in it besides rock. Then I accepted it.”
But the ‘Jolene’ hitmaker “still didn’t feel great about it” and felt she needed to “earn” her place.
She said: “I still thought I needed to earn it. That’s why I thought, ‘Well, timing is perfect. There’s a real reason for me to do this rock ‘n’ roll album. Here I am a rock star at 77.'”

Sheryl Crow ‘really scared’ by use of AI in music

OHMYGOSSIP — Sheryl Crow is “really scared” by the use of artificial intelligence in the music industry.
The singer has poured her thoughts about AI into a called ‘Evolution’ and Sheryl has admitted she penned the track because the she finds the use of AI in song creation “so disturbing”.
During an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, she explained: “‘Evolution’ … is a song about AI, speaking about The Beatles, and it’s been so disturbing to me.”
She went on to reveal she’s witnessed AI being used by songwriters and it “really scared” her.
Sheryl added: “I did a session the other day and this young songwriter had this incredible song, but she needed a guy to sing on it so that she could pitch it to male singers in Nashville. Paid $5, put in John Mayer’s name, and she played it for me. There’s no way you could tell the difference and it just blew my mind. And it didn’t just sound like him, I mean, like his inflections … [It] really scared [me].
“For me, art is like soul, it’s attached to the soul. So when you get into something that’s so much more advanced than our brains are at this point, it takes the soul out of it, you know, and it’s scary.”
It comes after Recording Academy boss Harvey Mason, Jr. – who runs the organisation behind the Grammy Awards – insisted an AI song called ‘Heart on My Sleeve’ featuring vocals manufactured to sound like Drake and The Weeknd will not be eligible for consideration at the prizegiving.
In a post on Instagram, he explained: “This version of ‘Heart on My Sleeve’ using the AI voice modelling, that sounds like Drake and The Weeknd, it’s not eligible for Grammy consideration. Let me be extra, extra clear, even though it was written by a human creator, the vocals were not legally obtained, the vocals were not cleared by the label or the artists and the song is not commercially available and because of that, it’s not eligible.”
He added: “I take this [AI] stuff very seriously. It’s all complicated, and it’s moving, really, really quickly. I’m sure things are going to continue to have to evolve and change. But please, please, do not be confused. The Academy is here to support and advocate and protect and represent human artists, and human creators period.”

‘It just hasn’t clicked’: Missy Elliott still can’t believe she’s being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

OHMYGOSSIP — Missy Elliott admits it “just hasn’t clicked” that she will become the first female rapper inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Friday (03.11.23).
As a hip-hop artist, the ‘Get Ur Freak On’ hitmaker admits the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame always “seemed so far out of reach.”
Appearing on ‘Good Morning America’, she said: “Words cannot describe.
“It just hasn’t clicked.”
The 52-year-old superstar admits she owes everything to the women who came before her, including Queen Latifah, 53.
She said of her fellow rapper: “She’s somebody that, like I said, ‘come before me, open that door, left it open.’
“And I owe so many flowers, bouquets. It’s not enough bouquets for those women that came before me. And she’s one of those women.”
Missy is also a huge fan of fellow inductees Chaka Khan, 70, Sheryl Crow, 61, and Willie Nelson, 90, and can’t believe she’s among the class of 2023 with them.
She said: “I love Chaka [Khan], and Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, to even be at a table with them is a blessing, past a blessing, there’s got a be a bigger word for that.”
The ‘Lose Control’ hitmaker says rock and roll is like hip-hop, in that it incorporates many other genres.
She explained: “Rock and Roll to me is a gumbo of different styles of music.
“I think we get this thing where, rock and roll, you gotta have a guitar. It’s like saying hip-hop is just rap when we have incorporated jazz, we have incorporated blues.”
Other inductees include Rage Against The Machine, Kate Bush, The Spinners, the late George Michael, and Bernie Taupin.
The ceremony takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, from 8pm EDT.

Dua Lipa buys rights to her music catalogue from former publisher

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa has acquired the rights to her songs after she struck a deal with her former publisher.
The 28-year-old pop star departed TAP Music and now owns the publishing rights to her back catalogue of hits.
Anna Neville, co-president of TAP Music, said: “We wish Dua all the best for the future.
“This is an exciting time for our publishing company – we are expanding our services and teams globally and continue to add talented writers and artists to our already stellar roster.”
Earlier this week, Dua teased her new era by teasing her new single, ‘Houdini’, which is out on November 9.
The Grammy-winning pop star had been dropping cryptic clues across her social media and fans cracked the code.
On Halloween (31.10.23), which is the same date as the famous magician Houdini’s death, she shared a preview of the new track, on which she sings: “Tell me all the ways you’ll need me.”
At the end of the clip, the numbers 4 8 9 9 14 15 21 flash up on the screen, and if you swap them for their letters it translates into Houdini.
The track will be the lead single from Dua’s upcoming follow-up to 2020’s dance record ‘Future Nostalgia’.
This year, Dua landed a huge hit with ‘Dance The Night’ from the live-action ‘Barbie’ film.
It was recently claimed that the ‘Levitating’ singer is to ditch her disco pop era in favour of music informed by “1970s-era psychedelia”.
A New York Times Style magazine profile on the 28-year-old singer claimed the ‘Physical’ hitmaker has reinvented her sound and is getting help from psychedelic act Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker.
Asked if the rumour is true, she coyly replied: “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
The profile noted: “She doesn’t want to “alienate” them [her fans], although she’s developing a new sound that may be informed less by the house and disco beats beneath songs like ‘Physical’ and ‘Hallucinate’ than by 1970s-era psychedelia.”
Producer Mark Ronson – who oversaw the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack – heard parts of the record and teased it’s going to be a whole new era for Dua.
He told Vulture: “I’ve heard some of it and it’s incredible.”
Referencing the music video for ‘Dance The Night’, he suggested that one key moment could be a big hint of what’s to come.
He added: “I think that’s why there’s the disco ball that smashes in the video, right?
“This feels like her triumphant stomp on that era of her music into whatever she does next.”

Megan Thee Stallion shows resilience on new single Cobra

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan Thee Stallion has released her self-funded single, ‘Cobra’.
Megan previously channelled her trauma into 2022’s ‘Traumazine’ record.
On ‘Cobra’, she raps about being “depressed” and hitting “rock bottom”.
However, the lyrics also allude to someone regaining their strength and self-worth.
Megan says in the intro to the music video: “Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past over and over again.”
‘Cobra’ is the debut track to drop on Megan’s own Hot Girl Productions.
The 28-year-old star released her previous LPs, 2020’s ‘Good News’ and ‘Traumazine’ on 300 Entertainment and 1501 Certified, but she no longer has a record deal so is putting out her next record independently.
Megan recently teased her next record will mark a new chapter.
She told Billboard: “It’s definitely coming very soon. I’m really excited about this chapter of my life because I feel like I’m finally closing all the old chapters, and now I’m starting with a blank slate. Very fresh, very new. Billy Joel confirms final Madison Square Garden residency show

OHMYGOSSIP — Billy Joel has announced his final Madison Square Garden residency show.
The ‘Piano Man’ is set to wrap the record-breaking stint, which first began back in January 2014, on July 25, 2024.
Tickets go on sale on Friday, November 10 at 10am.
It will mark his 104th show as part of the concert series and his 150th performance at the stadium, where he first played in 1978.
The 74-year-old music legend has performed at the iconic New York venue almost monthly since the start of the residency.
Billy recently told reporters he was “kind of flabbergasted” that his residency has “lasted as long” as it has.
He added: “My team tells me that we could continue to sell tickets, but 10 years, 150 shows… all right already!”
The only major disruption came during the COVID-19 pandemic when he was forced to take an 18-month break from the stage.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said at the press conference in June: “There’s only one thing that’s more New York than Billy Joel – and that’s a Billy Joel concert at MSG.”
Madison Square Garden hailed Billy’s “extraordinary talent” and insisted he will “always” have a home at the venue.
Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MSG Entertainment James Dolan said in a statement: “Billy Joel’s franchise run has made history – not only for Madison Square Garden, but also for the music industry overall.
“150 sold out lifetime shows is a remarkable achievement, and speaks to Billy’s extraordinary talent, beloved catalog, and dedicated fanbase. Billy always has a home here at MSG even though the residency is coming to an end with his 150th lifetime performance.”
The ‘Uptown Girl’ singer previously expressed his amazement that people continue to come and see him perform, despite the fact he hasn’t released an album of original material for more than 30 years.
He told Rolling Stone magazine in 2019: “I’ve gone onstage and said, ‘I don’t have anything new for you, so we’re just going to play the old s***’. And the audience goes, ‘Yeah!’
“I’ll be sitting in the stadium looking out at 30,000, 40,000, 50,000 people, thinking, ‘What the hell are they all doing here? Why now?’ I guess, in a way, I’m an anachronism. There aren’t that many of me left. There’s a rarity to it, which gives it value.”

Duran Duran star Nick Rhodes speaks out on AI in music: ‘It’s remarkable!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Rhodes thinks that thinks AI is “remarkable.”
The 61-year-old musician is best known as a part of Duran Duran and whilst some artists like Ed Sheeran, Drake, and Noel Gallagher have blasted the notion of using artificial intelligence in music, he thinks that if it is utilised in a “sensible” manner, it could have huge potential in the industry.
He told The Big Issue: “I’m actually in the pro- Al group. I know a lot of people seem to think it’s very controversial, and it’s got no soul, and ‘what is the world coming to?’ They’re the same people that always moan about any new developments in technology and machinery. We learn about them at school: the Luddites.
“I feel that it is a remarkable technology, actually. If you use it in a sensible way, as a tool for artistry. Don’t just tell it to make something. Then yes, the Al is making it. But if you guide whatever you want and use it as colours, almost as if you’re painting with it; I think that it’s fascinating what you can do with machines.”
The rock group is back with new album ‘Danse Macabre’ and Nick went on to add that while they haven’t used AI in an auditory sense yet, predicted it could be on the rise as long as humans remain the “masters” of the technology.
He added: “And of course, people will be using it for music more and more. We haven’t used it for music yet. We’ve only used it for visuals. But it’s what you put in. You have to be the master of the AI and not let it be your master.”

Kylie Minogue’s Vegas show combines ‘hedonism, escapism, joy and rapture’

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Minogue’s Las Vegas show contains “hedonism, escapism, joy and rapture”.
The 55-year-old singer helped to launch Voltaire at Venetian Las Vegas with her new residency and Kylie has promised her fans that they can expect a special show as she takes them on a 75-minute journey through her five-decade-long career.
She told Variety: “It’s hedonism, escapism, joy, rapture, all those things that you want in a show.
“It’s been really fun being part of the birth of this place and having a real vested interest in Voltaire as a whole. It’s an investment from all of us, committing to it and believing in the project. Ideas are cheap, and anything on paper looks possible, but making it a reality … everyone’s here for the common purpose. We’re always open and excited about expanding and discovering new worlds. I really think Voltaire has done that. If I jump forward five to 10 years from now, I will look back on this go wow that was really something.”
Kylie has been working with longtime choreographer Ashley Wallen on the show and Wallen said: “When you go see Kylie in an arena — she’s over there. It’s a huge spectacle. At Voltaire we have to make sure that everyone gets their time with her.”
And, Kylie’s show also features opening act Belle de Nuit, an original Parisian-style cabaret.
Show director Manon Savary said: “We all had the feeling that this type of format was missing. It was a perfect crossover in between live cabaret with close proximity to the audience, and, of course, the cherry on top is the headliners.
“We always have a guideline of what we want to propose to the audience. The core of it is disco, because it brings people together, it makes people beautiful. It’s transgenerational so it links everybody.”

Sheryl Crow announces new single and album

OHMYGOSSIP — Sheryl Crow has announced a new single and album.
The 61-year-old musician is set to release her 11th studio album ‘Evolution’ on March 29, 2024 via The Valory Music Group and has also announced new single ‘Alarm Clock’.
The album has been produced by Mike Elizondo, who also co-wrote ‘Alarm Clock’ with Sheryl and Emily Weisband.
She said: “This music and these lyrics came from sitting in the quiet and writing from a deep soul place. I said I’d never make another record, thought there was no point to it. But this music comes from my soul. And I hope whoever hears this record can feel that.
“Everything is more song oriented now with streaming, and making an album is a huge endeavour. I started sending just a couple of demos to Mike, but the songs just kept flowing out of me and it was pretty obvious this was going to be an album.”
Meanwhile, Sheryl was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Friday (03.11.23).
Sheryl is part of the 2023 class that also includes Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, Rage Against the Machine, Willie Nelson, George Michael and The Spinners.

Madonna, Dua Lipa and Coldplay to headline Glastonbury

OHMYGOSSIP — Madonna, Dua Lipa and Coldplay will reportedly headline Glastonbury next year.
The festival has faced criticism for its male-dominated headline acts over the years but 2024 will see two women take the top slots for the first time, with the ‘Levitating’ hitmaker set to take to the Pyramid Stage on the Friday night, followed by the ‘Yellow’ hitmakers on Saturday and the ‘Ray of Light’ singer – who is currently in the midst of her own world tour – closing out the event on the Sunday.
Organisers are said to be “thrilled” with the line-up they have put together.
A source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: “It’s the dream line-up, a brilliant mix of different music and different atmospheres. Then, of course, you have Madonna on the final night, which will be epic.”
Coldplay have previously headlined the festival in 2002, 2005, 2011, and 2016, while it will be Dua’s first appearance as a headline act and Madonna’s first ever performance at the iconic event, which takes place on Worthy Farm, Somerset.
The news comes a few weeks after organiser Emily Eavis hinted Madonna could be set to top the bill.
Speaking to Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw on their podcast ‘Sidetracked with Annie and Nick’, she shared: “I thought it was kind of taking shape, and then last week I just got a call, and this is what happens if you wait a little longer, because quite often we’ll be booked up from July. But this year we’re holding out for a little bit longer.
“And then last week I got a call from [a representative of] a really big American artist saying, ‘This person’s around next year’, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is incredible. Thank God we held the slot.'”
The timing of the call coincided with Emily seeing Madonna at The O2 in London, but she insisted people shouldn’t read too much into her posting online about the gig.
She said: “It was incredible. I just was blown away by it to be honest.
“I walked away and I was like, ‘I’ve got to post about this’. I’ve posted about going to lots of gigs before, but I didn’t expect it to be quite such big news.
“Everybody knows that I’ve always wanted Madonna to play Glastonbury.
“It’s not a big news story.”
Emily also confirmed they’ve nailed down this year’s Sunday afternoon Legends slot performer and that it’s also a female star.
