Richard Carpenter set to thrill Carpenters fan by telling the tales behind the group’s biggest hits on stage for first time

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Carpenter is set to thrill fans of The Carpenters by telling the stories behind the group’s hits on stage for the first time.
Renowned as one half of the smash 1970s duo, the 77-year-old songwriter will hit the road in the UK from September 2024, and be both performing and sharing tales of how the group’s biggest songs were created.
Richard – who was left devastated by the death of his bandmate sister Karen Carpenter aged 32 in 1983 after her nightmarish battle with anorexia – said about his upcoming ‘An Evening With’ shows: “After too long an absence, I’m very much looking forward to performing for the UK audiences once again.”
A press release announcing the tour said: “Richard will share anecdotes and reflections on how he and his late sister, Karen Carpenter, took the world by storm, becoming one of the most successful duos in music history – as well as performing these iconic and timeless songs.”
A total of 10 of The Carpenters’ singles were million-sellers, and by 2020 combined worldwide sales of the duo’s albums and singles well exceeded 150 million copies.
Within the space of just a few years their unique and inimitable sound had brought a new dimension to the world of popular music.
During their 14-year career, they won three Grammys and were nominated for 15 of the awards.
They first performed together as a duo in 1966 and formed the jazz-oriented Richard Carpenter Trio.
Richard and Karen then signed as Carpenters to A and M Records in 1969 and achieved huge success the following year with the hit singles ‘(They Long To Be) Close To You’ and ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’.
The pair’s ‘For All We Know’ track was the duo’s third gold single and later won a best original song Oscar.
Tickets for ‘An Evening with Richard Carpenter UK Tour 2024’ will be available from www.tdpromo.com or venue box offices on Friday (17.11.23) at 10am.

Ray Davies battles to even talk about being shot nearly 20 years ago – but SYPATHISES with his mugger

OHMYGOSSIP — Ray Davies still struggles to talk about the 2004 shooting that left him hospitalised – but feels sorry for his attacker.
The Kinks frontman, 79, was shot when he chased muggers who targeted him and a female friend while they were walking home from dinner in New Orleans, and said at the moment he was blasted he ended up thinking about the “desperation” that must have driven his attacker to a life of crime.
Ray told NME: “It’s a difficult thing to talk about. Just before he shot me, he looked afraid – and he had a gun.
“You know, I was thinking of the world he came from, the challenges in his life… it’s utter desperation.”
Ray recounted the tale in his 2013 memoir ‘Americana: The Kinks, The Road and The Perfect Riff’ and said it was “cathartic” to write about it.
He added he “didn’t feel like the good guy” when he replayed the scene on the page as he had sympathy with the gunman.
Ray – whose hits include ‘You Really Got Me’ – and his friend were walking through the French Quarter in New Orleans in January at around 8.30pm when a passing car stopped and a gunman jumped out and demanded Ray’s female pal’s woman’s purse before running off.
In a moment of madness, the singer chased the men, one of whom turned and fired, wounding him in the leg and leaving him in hospital.
Ray and his brother Dave, both from Muswell Hill, north London, formed the Kinks in the 1960s and had hits including ‘All Day and All of the Night’.
‘The Journey’, an innovative compilation album, has been released this year, with ‘Part 2’ due out on Friday (17.11.23) to mark The Kinks’ 60th anniversary.

LeAnn Rimes was ‘uncomfortable’ recording ‘sexual song’ for Coyote Ugly

OHMYGOSSIP — LeAnn Rimes felt “uncomfortable” recording ‘The Right Kind of Wrong’ as a teenager.
The 41-year-old singer was just 17 when she sang both that song and ‘Can’t Fight The Moonlight’ for the soundtrack for 2000 blockbuster ‘Coyote Ugly’, and she didn’t feel like she could relate to the lyrics at the time.
She told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “I have such a great appreciation for those songs and what they’ve done for me, and how much people love them.
“But it’s funny with ‘The Right Kind of Wrong’ because I remember that song being such a sexual song, I remember recording it and I was feeling uncomfortable recording it because I was so young.”
However, at this stage of her life LeAnn feels a “sensuality” when she performs the track, which has come with experience.
She added: “But now it takes on a whole new meaning for me.
“I’m obviously not uncomfortable singing it now – so there’s like a different sensuality that comes out with the song that definitely was not there when I was 17.”
LeAnn even appeared in the film too, dancing on top of the bar, and she admitted even that was awkward for her at the time.
She laughed: “I was 17 and throwing it back on this bar dancing and still totally finding myself, not even a clue about my body or how it moves.
“And then it’s like, ‘Here LeAnn go be sexy on this bar’. I was like, ‘I don’t even know what that means’, it was a wild experience!”
LeAnn previously opened up about the “pretty heavy depression” she suffered amid the coronavirus pandemic, and how her feelings were “intense” when she returned to live performing for the first time.
Speaking on the ‘Verywell Mind’ podcast, she said: “I don’t think I’ve ever been off the road for 16 months like this at one point for a solid period of time. I went back out to do my first show recently in front of thousands of people. I was so triggered.
“I’m like, oh my God, the experience that I’m having right now is so intense. And it was also like, nothing happened. I walked out, it’s like riding a bike, it didn’t feel like there were 16 months in between.”

Peter Hook and The Light announce massive world tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Hook and The Light have announced a massive world tour for next year.
The veteran rocker and his band will perform the ‘Substance’ albums by Joy Division and New Order in full at the gigs, which kick off at the Opera House in Wellington, New Zealand on May 16 before heading to Australia. The North American leg begins in August in Toronto, Canada taking in cities including Boston, Chicago, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle before heading to the UK and Ireland in October and November.
Announcing the tour on Instagram, a message from the band read: “We are delighted to announce the return of our ‘Substance’ live show to North America, the UK Ireland from August to November of 2024.
“We will perform both Joy Division New Order ‘Substance’ LPs live and in their entirety at each show, alongside selected extra ‘Substance’ era tracks.”
Hook added in a statement: “It still amazes me how enjoyable it is to play the ‘Substance’ LPs. The contrast between Joy Division and New Order is very apparent but both complement each other very well. My only frustration is not being able to play more of our records each night. I am totally looking forward to the next phase. So, let’s enjoy some Substance and get ready for the future. Lots of love, Hooky.”
Hook released ‘Substance’ as a collection of New Order’s single in 1987 and it was following by the Joy Division singles compilation of the same name in 1988.
The tour concludes in Galway, Ireland on November 16.

The Zutons announce first album in 16 years

OHMYGOSSIP — The Zutons are set to return with their first album in 16 years.
The ‘Valerie’ hitmakers will release ‘The Big Decider’ on April 26, 2024, which is produced by studio wizard Nile Rodgers, and also saw them reunite with original producer Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds.
It will mark the group’s first studio effort since 2008’s ‘You Can Do Anything’.
Frontman Dave McCabe, 42, said of working with the 71-year-old Chic legend: “Working with Nile was just an amazing experience, he gave me a confidence that I’ve never felt before making a record. He’s very laid-back as a person and a good listener. On the song ‘Disappear’, I wrote a spoken word piece about The Zutons travelling the stars and galaxies asking the most powerful question in the universe, ‘Why?’. I asked Nile if he’d read it out over the top of the end section of the song, thinking he’d just say no. But he jumped in the vocal booth with his chain around his neck and his sunglasses on and did about 20 different takes, all in different styles of himself. It was mind-blowing! It was as though he really does travel around the universe in some spaceship and just makes music in his spare time. He’s just one of the coolest people I’ve ever met.”
And on working with Ian, 65, he added: “It was great to reconnect with Ian Broudie on this record as well. He told me the demo of Big Decider brought a tear to his eye and that’s why he said yes to working with us again. It was one of the first songs we wrote for the album so getting that reaction from Ian made me feel like we were doing something right. The song spoke for itself.”
Making the album was the first time the trio have felt a “genuine feeling of a shared vision”.
Drummer Sean Payne – who completes the lineup alongside saxophonist and backing singer Abi Harding – added: “We had a genuine feeling of a shared vision. In the past, we haven’t really said how we feel, or we’ve taken each other the wrong way. But this album was different. We really didn’t feel good until it was just how we wanted it.”
The new record comes after they reunited in 2018, after a nine-year hiatus, to announce a 2019 tour to play ‘Who Killed….. The Zutons?’ on its 15th anniversary.

The Kinks’ Ray Davies teases new music

OHMYGOSSIP — The Kinks have around “20 songs” waiting to be worked on.
Ray Davies has “two or three” tracks from the pile that he’s keen to finish before he turns them into a project.
He told the NME: “We’ve got loads of songs there in pieces.
“There are about two or three songs I want to finish, and when they’re finished, I’ll put the whole thing together.”
Fans were expecting new music in 2018, but it “got shelved because of other issues”.
He added: “But there’s still material there. When I get time.”
Ray, 79, and his brother Dave, 76, formed the Kinks in the 1960s and had hits including ‘All Day and All of the Night’ and ‘You Really Got Me’.
Despite new music talk, Ray insists a band reunion is in “the lap of the Gods” due to his differences with his sibling.
However, last year, Dave admitted there’s every chance he and his elder sibling can put their tumultuous past behind them and reform the iconic rock band.
He told The Independent when asked if a reunion was on the cards: “I hope so! I do.
“Ray and I have spoken about it – it’s possible!”
Of their relationship now, he said: “We get on okay.
“We talk about football! We’re born-and-bred Arsenal fans … So, yeah, I’m optimistic about the future.”
In 2018, Dave admitted they needed to “iron out a few” kinks before working together again.
Ray went on a national news channel to announce that the ‘Lola’ group had been back in the studio for the first time in 25 years, but his brother claimed it wasn’t entirely true as they’d only discussed the prospect and need to argue out their creative differences first.
Dave spilled: “I thought, ‘What is Ray bulls****** about now?'”
However, he added: “We’ve been talking about maybe trying to work on new Kinks material.
“I said, ‘We shouldn’t go public yet because we’ve got to iron out a few things.’
“He said, ‘Yeah.’ Of course, he left, and the next thing he’s on TV saying we’re doing it. Typical Ray.”
The pair’s notorious fights even made it onto the stage throughout the roaring 60s’.
They performed together for the first time in almost 20 years in 2015, when Ray joined Dave on stage in London for a performance of ‘You Really Got Me’.
The Kinks’ classic line-up featured Mick Avory on percussion and the late Pete Quaife on bass.
Meanwhile, ‘Part 2’ of ‘The Journey’, an innovative compilation album, is due out on Friday (17.11.23) to mark The Kinks’ 60th anniversary.

Firestarter: Prodigy’s Maxim burnt his artwork following Keith Flint’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Prodigy frontman Maxim burnt his artwork after his bandmate Keith Flint died by suicide.
The 56-year-old vocalist and artist created a series of artworks of famous people who died aged 27, who are part of the so-called 27 Club, who passed away as a result of drug and alcohol abuse or suicide.
However, after his beloved bandmate tragically took his own life in 2019, aged 49, he couldn’t carry on with his drug-themed artwork and took it out into the garden and set it on fire.
He told Metro.co.uk: “I painted a lot of art then. It’s another form of expression for me, just like the band and like designing my own clothes.”
Maxim continued: “I can’t actually remember that time. I think I blocked it out.
“When you’re in it you can’t imagine getting through it, but here I am four-and-a-half years later.
“Of course, the dynamic has changed.
“He’s not here. We go on. But his spirit is here.”
The ‘Firestarter’ hitmaker had started the project more than a decade ago, but he didn’t want to be seen as part of the artists “cashing in” on someone’s passing.
He explained: “Over 10 years ago, I had this concept of doing some artwork with people who’d passed away at 27 and died from drug overdoses. The 27 Club – people like Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison.
“I always just tried to push the boundaries of art and because it was drug overdoses, I did these paintings with pills. After that, quite a few people started using pills in their art too.
“But it got to a point where I didn’t feel it was right – and it was probably because of Keith.
“After he died I destroyed them. I burnt them like a bonfire in the back garden.
“I saw people creating artwork after Keith… cashing in. I didn’t want to be any part of that and I vowed not to do musicians then.”

‘It really freaks me out’: Taylor Swift reminds fans not to throw presents on stage

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift has warned fans not to throw gifts on stage as it “really freaks me out”.
The ‘Cruel Summer’ hitmaker, 33, was performing at the Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires on Sunday (12.11.23) at her delayed ‘Eras Tour’ show – which had been postponed from Friday (10.11.23) due to the bad weather – when she reminded fans of the dangers of lobbing items towards performers after a present landed next to her.
She said: “Just because communication means having gentle, healthy boundaries, it really freaks me out when stuff gets thrown on the stage. Because if it’s on the stage then a dancer can trip on it.”
Taylor added: “I love that you bought presents and that is so nice, but just, can you please not throw them on the stage.
“I love you so much.”
Several high-profile musicians have been struck by objects while on stage, including Bebe Rexha and Harry Styles, whilst pop superstar Pink had a crowd member throw their mum’s ashes towards her.
Taylor’s gentle reminder comes after Adele told gig-goers to follow concert “etiquette”.
The award-winning star jokingly dared her fans to throw an object at her during her ‘Weekends with Adele’ Las Vegas residency at Ceasar’s Palace.
Adele, 35, told the crowd: “Have you noticed how people are, like, forgetting show etiquette at the moment, throwing (things) onstage? Have you seen it?
“I dare you, dare you to throw something at me.
“Stop throwing things at the artist!”
Adele then shot a T-shirt into the crowd and giggled: “But you can shoot things at the audience!”
Prior to that, Bebe was left with a black eye after being hit in the face by a phone that was thrown at her by someone in the crowd at a show in New York.
The ‘Heart Wants What It Wants’ songstress was seen dropping to her knees and clutching her face as stagehands at Pier 17’s The Rooftop venue rushed to help her.

Dua Lipa says Tame Impala’s Currents ‘completely changed’ her life

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa has gushed that collaborator Kevin Parker’s band Tame Impala’s 2015 LP ‘Currents’ “completely changed” her life.
The ‘Don’t Start Now’ hitmaker has teamed up with Kevin on her latest single ‘Houdini’ and her upcoming third studio album – with the multi-instrumentalist serving as producer along with Danny L. Harle.
And it turns out Dua has been a longtime fan of the psychedelic outfit that inspired her new sound.
She told Triple J in an interview shared on Instagram: “In terms of things that I’m obsessed with, ‘Currents’ has been the soundtrack to my life.
“It’s one of my favourite albums ever, ever, ever. [It] was kind of like the gateway drug for me into Tame Impala. It completely changed my life and so it was very, very cool to be able to collaborate with him this way.”
She continued: “I’ve always looked up to [him] as someone that I’m really inspired by and [he] has always been on my dream board of people to work with.”
Dua, 28, says she and Kevin, 37, “gelled” really well in the studio and produced some “really fun” songs for the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Future Nostalgia’.
She added: “It kind of took us both by surprise how well we just gelled in the studio and how well it worked and how fun it was to collaborate with each other. We’ve made some really fun songs.”
The ‘Levitating’ singer recently teased that the rest of the songs on the album are “quite different” to ‘Houdini’.
She told iHeartRadio: “All other songs on the album are quite different, but they do have a very psychedelic throughline overall. ‘Houdini’ has so much electronic variety, but at same time, it has a lot of interesting instrumentation and feels very organic as well…that’s something I really wanted to convey on the album.”

Ty Dolla Sign gives update on joint Kanye West album

OHMYGOSSIP — Ty Dolla $ign has teased that his joint album with Kanye West is “coming real soon”.
The rap duo had been in Saudi Arabia, seemingly putting the finishing touches to the record.
He told the audience at his show recently: “I just landed on a flight from Saudi Arabia.
“I’ve been out there recording a part of my album with my brother Ye, and that’s coming real soon.”
The update comes after the pair’s listening event for the record was postponed.
Last month, it was claimed they were seeking a partner to distribute their upcoming LP.
The pair have been shopping the record around and were said to be considering five different offers.
A source told Billboard that Kanye “will make a decision soon” as the record was expected to be released in the next few weeks.
Too Lost, the music distribution and publishing company that launched in 2021 and represents Kanye’s rights on YouTube, is reportedly one of the companies that was interested in distributing the album.
The publication added that “some who’ve heard the music say it’s West’s best music” since 2018’s ‘Ye’, but companies are nervous about being associated with the controversial rapper due to his previous anti-Semitic comments.
Kanye and Ty’s last collaboration was ‘Junya Pt 2’ on his 2021 album, ‘Donda’ but they have worked together numerous times since 2014.
Before that, they worked together on Ty’s 2020 track ‘Ego Death’ and on Ye’s ‘Everything We Need’ (2019), ‘Real Friends’ (2016) and ‘Only One’ (2014).
Meanwhile, Kanye and Dr. Dre’s star-studded record ‘Jesus Is King 2’ recently fell victim to a leak.
The jam-packed follow-up to Kanye’s 2019 gospel LP has features from Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Travis Scott, Pusha T, 2 Chainz, Anderson .Paak, A$AP Ferg and Marsha Ambrosius.
However, it’s largely made up of reworkings and remixes of the original songs, with Kanye adding a few verses.
In October, it was reported that Def Jam had parted ways with the rapper and that his imprint G.O.O.D. Music was no longer associated with the label.
The ‘Good Morning’ rapper lost his deal with Adidas, was dropped by agents CAA, and had the likes of Balenciaga and Vogue magazine distance themselves from him due to a string of anti-Semitic comments he made last year, including praising the “good things” about Adolf Hitler and declaring he wanted to go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.”

Dido signs record deal for new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Dido has inked a new record deal with Warner Chappell – including new music.
The ‘White Flag’ hitmaker – who achieved global success with her 1999 debut album ‘No Angel’ – is thrilled to be working with the label that supported her from the start of her career.
Dido, 51, said: “Warner Chappell have been there for me from the very beginning of my songwriting journey, well over 25 years ago. They gave me my start and helped me create the songs that were the foundations of my first record and then over the years continued to be family. I’m excited for all the things we will create together now.”
Guy Moot, co-chair and CEO of Warner Chappell Music, said: “Dido is one of the most remarkable songwriters of this century. We’re so pleased that she’s put her faith in us again to represent one of the great modern songbooks. We look forward to working with her on new projects and continuing to promote her incredible catalogue in exciting and creative ways.”
The songwriter – who has penned hits for Britney Spears, Rihanna, and her brother Rollo’s group Faithless – released her last album, ‘Still On My Mind’, in 2019.
And she admitted at the time that it felt like her debut album as it was different from anything she’d done before.
She explained to Red magazine: “It almost feels like my first record. I’m proud of it, it’s a real celebration to what’s gone before.
“What I write about are little moments of conflict. There is always light and dark. But when you have a kid, there is no conflict. You just love them and want to hang out with them. I think that got in the way of writing for a while.”
Since her last record, Dido has featured on Caroline Polachek’s album ‘Desire, I Want to Turn Into You’ on the track ‘Fly to You’ with Grimes.
She was also listed as a co-writer of the track.
And in May, Jason Derulo sampled her noughties hit ‘Thank You’ on his song ‘When Love Sucks’.

Beyonce is in talks for a $10m Las Vegas residency at the Sphere

OHMYGOSSIP — Beyonce is reportedly in talks for a $10 million show at Las Vegas’ Sphere.
The ‘Cuff It’ hitmaker is said to have toured the state-of-the-art venue where U2 are currently holding their ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere’ residency with her manager in tow.
She is now said to have had discussions with the executive chairman of MSG Networks, James Dolan, about doing a residency there next year, according to the New York Post.
The multi-billion-dollar immersive MSG Sphere at the Venetian sees gig-goers placed in a “360-degree sonic spectrum” where the sound is the same wherever they are sitting.
It would be a huge win for the venue after Beyonce raked in a reported $579 million for her ‘Renaissance World Tour’, which became the highest-grossing tour ever by a female artist.
The likes of Lady Gaga and Bon Jovi are also said to be keen to book the venue.
U2 have been performing their 1991 album ‘Achtung Baby’ in full alongside some fan-favorites at the high-tech venue.
The ‘With or Without You’ hitmakers recently surprised fans by bringing out Gaga to duet on her mega-hit ‘Shallow’.
The 37-year-old pop superstar had checked out the legendary Irish rock group’s show at the Sphere with her boyfriend Michael Polansky.
And she returned weeks later, this time duetting with Bono and The Edge on her 2018 hit from her blockbuster movie ‘A Star Is Born’.
Meanwhile, Beyonce’s mum recently revealed her daughter can be “really mean” when she is on tour.
After the 42-year-old superstar recently wrapped up her world tour, Tina Knowles – who has worked as a costume designer- revealed that sometimes her daughter has to apologise to her for her behaviour backstage.
Speaking on the US TV show ‘Sherri’, she said: “We laughed about this recently because I was saying, ‘Girl, you get really mean back there,’ and I am really happy that I don’t have to be back there anymore. She’ll be like, ‘Mama, I’m so sorry,’ and I’m like, ‘I know.’”
Tina went on to add that the ‘Break My Soul’ singer often bursts into tears afterwards.
She added: “Sometimes she’ll be crying, and I was like, ‘She crying because she know she just said some crazy stuff to us.”
However, Tina did admit that she can understand where her daughter is coming from, before revealing that around 150 costumes from the tour went unworn.
She said: “But that’s the heat of the moment, because you’re trying to get your shoes on, and everybody’s waiting, and if somebody’s messing up or they lose the shoes, then you messed up the whole show.”
Prior to the opening of the tour, Beyoncé had told her mother that she wanted to have more than one stylist on tour and ended up with “over 600 costumes” to choose from for the show.

The Cure’s keyboards to miss Latin America tour due to health reasons

OHMYGOSSIP — The Cure’s keyboardist has pulled out of the band’s Latin America tour due to “health reasons”.
Roger O’Donnell – who has been performing with Robert Smith and co on-and-off since 1897 – has been forced to skip the shows as he recovers from an unknown medical condition.
In a social media statement, the ‘Lovecats’ group said: “We are sure you will join with us in wishing him the speediest of recoveries.”
He will be replaced by Mike Lord for the dates, which kick off in Mexico City on November 19.
Earlier this year, the band cancelled over 7,000 tickets to their US tour in a bid to tackle touts.
Frontman Robert has been vocal about his desire for fans to see the group’s show without paying inflated prices while also restricting ticket transfers in markets where he was legally allowed to do so in places like New York, Illinois, and Colorado – which have all enacted legislation protecting resellers – and, in April, he confirmed listings on secondary resale sites had been blocked.
He tweeted: “Approx 7k tickets across approx 2200 orders have been cancelled. These are tickets acquired with fake accounts / listed on secondary resale sites. TM have identified specific locations from secondary postings.(sic)”
He urged fans who felt their orders had been “wrongly cancelled” to contact Ticketmaster customer services.
Earlier in the day, he had warned ticket buyers not to try and “get around” transferring rules or also face cancellations.
He wrote: “OFFERING TO SELL/SEND ACCOUNT LOGIN DETAILS TO GET AROUND TM TRANSFER LIMITATIONS… ANY/ALL TICKETS OBTAINED IN THIS WAY WILL BE CANCELED, AND ORIGINAL FEES PAID ON THOSE TICKETS WILL NOT BE REFUNDED.
“..ORIGINAL FEES PAID ON THOSE TICKETS WILL BE DONATED TO AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, AND THE TICKETS THEMSELVES WILL BE RESOLD TO FANS.(sic)”
Fans secured partial refunds after the ‘Friday I’m In Love’ singer said he was “sickened” by the inflated fees being charged by Ticketmaster, with some gig-goers claiming the add-on was more than the ticket price itself.
He wrote: “I am sickened as you all are by today’s Ticketmaster fees debacle. To be clear: the artist has no way to limit them. I have been asking how they are justified. If I get anything coherent by way of an answer I will let you all know.”
However, Ticketmaster bosses seemingly heeded Smith’s complaints and the veteran rocker later confirmed many fans would be getting some of their money back.
The Cure kicked off their 2023 North American dates on May 10 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and concluded the trek on July 1 in Miami, Florida.

Dua Lipa gets real about ‘singledom’ and new relationships on her personal third album

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa’s hugely personal third album is about “figuring out singledom” and entering a new relationship.
The 28-year-old pop star – who is dating 42-year-old French director Romain Gavras – just launched her new era with the psychedelic-tinged lead single, ‘Houdini’, and she has teased what fans can expect from her follow-up 2020’s ‘Future Nostalgia’, lyrically.
She told US radio: “It’s more the different feelings and emotions you have throughout the period of being single.
“It’s also understanding. You understand what you want and what you need and what you deserve.
“It goes from the phase of figuring out singledom into potentially a new relationship.
“Then it’s early days and getting to see the truth behind someone – whether they are real or not. Or who they are.”
Sonically, the ‘Don’t Start Now’ hitmaker says the rest of the album is “quite different” from ‘Houdini’.
She told iHeartRadio: “All other songs on the album are quite different, but they do have a very psychedelic throughline overall. ‘Houdini’ has so much electronic variety, but at same time it has a lot of interesting instrumentation and feels very organic as well…that’s something I really wanted to convey on the album.”
Psychedelic act Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and a bunch of other co-writers have collaborated on the sounds throughout her upcoming record.
Kevin and rave and electronic music-maker Danny L. Harle served as producers.
In a statement, Dua said of ‘Houdini’: “This track represents the most light and freeing parts of my singledom.
“’Houdini’ is very tongue in cheek, exploring the idea of whether someone is really worth my while or if I’ll ghost them in the end. You never know where something may take you, that’s the beauty of being open to whatever life throws your way. I’m looking forward to sharing that feeling of defiant bliss with my fans.”
On the process of the new record, she added: “A lot of this album was written in those joyous moments of absolute chaos and how I moved through the world with lightness and optimism of whatever the outcome may be.”

Bon Jovi to release original Christmas song

OHMYGOSSIP — Bon Jovi are dropping the festive track, ‘Christmas Isn’t Christmas’, on Friday (17.11.23).
The ‘It’s My Life’ rockers have announced an “early Christmas present” for their fans.
They announced on social media this week: “We’ve got an early Christmas present for you! Our new original holiday song, ‘Christmas Isn’t Christmas,’ is out this Friday.”
The Yuletide record was recorded at Ocean Way Nashville Recording Studios.
The band members – Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, Hugh McDonald, Tico Torres, Phil Xenidis, John Shanks, and Everett Bradley – celebrated with a drink at the nearby Santa’s Pub in Nashville.
It will mark their first new music since their album ‘2020’, released three years ago.
Meanwhile, Richie Sambora has claimed to be in talks for a Bon Jovi reunion.
The ‘Masked Singer’ star confirmed he discussed re-joining the ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’ group for potential new music, but he’s not sure when they’ll be back for more live shows as frontman Jon Bon Jovi has been having “a little break” after being plagued by vocal issues.
Speaking on Absolute Radio, he spilled: “We’re talking about it. I don’t think there’s any reason not to at this point.”
He continued: “I made the decision when I started to work here in London over the last six months, I hooked up with Hipgnosis and Merck Mercuriadis, and we started to work together and I started to write with other artists and making my own records and now I’m saying to myself, ‘how am I going to ignite this? Let’s put on a potato head!’”
Richie, 64, said of his bandmate’s vocal issues: “Jon (Bon Jovi) was having a hard time with his voice a little bit there and he needed to take a little bit of a breather.”
He insisted he and Jovi, 61, are on good terms, adding: “You know what, there’s no malice. I mean, we did something … there’s not a lot of bands that did what we did. I mean, obviously, bands like The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and U2 (have).”
The former guitarist quit the band in 2013 after 30 years in order to spend more time with his daughter Ava, now 26, his child from his marriage to Heather Locklear.
And he feels he has an “obligation” to give the fans what they want.
He said: “I don’t know when Jon’s going to get his voice together and (when the Bon Jovi reunion is) going to happen, but we have to get out there and do it for the fans really. I feel a second obligation.
“I’ve had such a privilege and an opportunity – and this is not bulls***, it’s really true – my life is pretty good, always has been and I get to do what I love to do for a living and it’s a damn good living. And I never really stopped really.”
