‘I got really tired of rock music’: Johnny Marr grew to dislike rock music when he went solo

OHMYGOSSIP — Johnny Marr grew “tired of rock music”.
The former Smiths rocker hated how the majority of rock bands sang about “adversity” and their “feelings” when he released his debut studio album, ‘The Messenger’, in 2013.
He told the i newspaper: “In 2013, when I did the first solo album, the reason I’m singing about architecture so much is because I used it as a device to write songs that I wanted to sing.
“Everyone seemed to be singing about this adversity that we’re all going through.
“And I know we are going through adversity, I get it. But I got really tired of rock music.
“The currency of rock music being this faux sentimentality.”
However, one act that was doing something out of the ordinary that piqued his interest was Siouxsie And The Banshees.
The 60-year-old musician continued: “I thought, well, Siouxsie Sioux (Siouxsie And The Banshees) wasn’t singing about her feelings.
“She was singing about ‘Arabian Knights’ and ‘Spellbound’ and ‘Happy House’.
“Interesting, surreal, unusual subjects. I just thought everyone had got into this habit of pouring their inner world out.
“You know, like, ‘I’ve lost my phone charger… Let me get an acoustic guitar and explain it to you.'”
The ‘No Time To Die’ guitarist – who has been in several bands since he was a teenager, most notably The Smiths and The Cribs – admitted he found going solo “liberating”.
He explained: “It was liberating, the solo stuff.
“A lot of people might assume that me going solo was this sort of furtive thing – it’s nothing like that.
“It was that I had these ideas for a group, and because I’ve been forming groups since I was 14, I sort of know when I’m on to something, you know, for a group.
“But I believe that a group has to have a worldview. The singer needs to be saying something, I believe, other than ‘listen to my feelings!’”
Johnny has just released the collection ‘Spirit Power: The Best Of Johnny Marr’, spanning his decade-long solo career.
Fans can also catch him on the 2024 ‘Spirit Power Tour. Head to johnnymarr.com for the full tour dates and ticket information.

Madness nearly split up before new album over the COVID-19 pandemic

OHMYGOSSIP — Madness’ new album stopped them from splitting up.
‘Theatre Of The Absurd Presents C’est La Vie’, out now, was recorded in an industrial unit in Cricklewood, London, after a “disparate couple of years which saw the band at their most polarised and fragmented.”
The Ska legends argued over the COVID-19 lockdowns and vaccinations, but as soon as they hit the studio to work on their first studio album in seven years, their differences were put aside.
Frontman Suggs, 62, told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “We had polarised opinions about if there should be vaccinations and lockdowns, and it ended up quite serious between us.
“Everything became half one way and half the other, different opinions on who was to blame.”
He continued: “The great joy of the band is that, when we get together, we become tolerant.
“We all come from very tough backgrounds, and tolerance has got a little lost in society.
“But we can see there’s two sides to every story, that you don’t have to hate each other just because you’ve got a different opinion.”
They also had creative differences that they just let go of.
Suggs laughed: “Some of the other’s songs, I didn’t really dig at first.
“I thought ‘Run For Your Life’ was a bit depressing, but the others said it was on fire.
“Even if you think, ‘What the hell are you on about? you have to put your best into everyone else’s songs because it’s a great joy when you’re proved wrong and it works.”
BAFTA-winning superfan, Martin Freeman, 52, plays a central role in telling the story of the record as he recorded the prologue running throughout.
The ‘Hobbit’ star became friends with Suggs and co after standing in a meet and greet queue for the ‘It Must Be Love’ band and being fast-tracked to meet them by Madness’ manager.
The record also marks the first time the group has self-produced a record with assistance from engineer and mixer Matt Galsbey.
The ‘Baggy Trousers’ band’s last record was 2016’s ‘Can’t Touch Us Now’, however, they released the soundtrack LP ‘The Get Up!’ last year.

Drake name-drops Taylor Swift and calls out rival Kanye West on new song Red Button

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake has praised Taylor Swift and slammed rival Kanye West on his new song ‘Red Button’.
The ‘Rich Flex’ rapper surprised fans by dropping the ‘Scary Hours 3’ EP, an extension to his latest LP ‘For All The Dogs’, at midnight (17.11.23).
And he once again confirms he’s team Taylor, hailing her the “only [one] that I ever rated”, whilst accusing Kanye of teasing him by making him believe he’s going to make “peace” with him but “levitating” their feud instead.
He raps about the ‘Karma’ hitmaker: “Taylor Swift the only ***** that I ever rated/Only one that could make me drop the album just a little later.
“Rest of ya’ll, I treat ya’ll like you never made it/Leave your label devastated/Even when you pad the stats, period, I never hated.”
And of the ‘Jesus Walks’ rapper, he spits: “Every time that Yeezy call the truce/He had my head inflated/Thinking we going to finally peace it up and get to levitating/Realised that everything premeditated.”
Kanye and the ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ hitmaker’s feud can be traced back to 2009, when the rap star interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards.
In 2016, Kanye enraged the pop star by spitting “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex” on 2016 track ‘Famous’.
His Drake feud has been ongoing for more than a decade.
In a 2019 interview with Rolling Stone, Taylor said of it all: “[When I heard the song, I was like, ‘I’m done with this. If you want to be on bad terms, let’s be on bad terms, but just be real about it.’
“And then he literally did the same thing to Drake. He gravely affected the trajectory of Drake’s family and their lives. It’s the same thing. Getting close to you, earning your trust, detonating you.”

Tony Christie defies dementia with new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Tony Christie has announced his first album in 12 years, ‘We Still Shine’.
The 80-year-old singer feared he’d have to stop working when he was diagnosed with dementia in 2021, however, he’s proved himself wrong, as he unveils his new country-inspired album.
Set for release on February 16, 2024, the album – a follow-up to 2011’s ‘Now’s the Time!’ – was produced by long-time collaborator and close friend Graeme Pleeth and recorded in Nashville with his wife Sue and son Sean there every step of the way.
The ‘Amarillo’ hitmaker said: ”I loved every minute of making this record. It’s the first time my wife Sue had joined me on a recording trip to Nashville. My son rented a house that was literally a two-minute walk across the road to Blackbird recording studios where we spent three weeks making what I believe to be the best album I’ve ever made, and I really mean it. I’ve just come back from Abbey Road Studios where the album has been mastered and it’s the first time I got to hear the album in its entirety and in sequence. I was so blown away by the sound, It brought me to tears. This album is very special to me and has been in the planning for a good few years.”
The new single ‘Home Home Home’ is out now on streaming platforms.
As well as Graeme, Tony worked on the record with renowned musicians Jerry McPherson and Beth Nielsen Chapman.
He continued: “Together with my son Sean and my producer Graeme Pleeth we have been backwards and forward to Nashville collating songs and demoing them until we were finally happy we had it just right.
“We worked with the cream of Nashville’s studio musicians and engineers in what is arguably the best recording studio in the world and what I love most about this album is we recorded the band in one room. We would listen to the take and if everyone was happy with their performance we would then add little overdubs, just like we used to do in the old days. You can feel the musicians playing live like a band rather than everyone being recorded separately and then time corrected and tuned bit by bit. I absolutely love this record and If this were to be the last record I ever make then I would be pleased to leave this as my legacy.”
Tony is an ambassador for the Music for Dementia campaign in 2023, and he released the charity single, ‘Thank You For Being A Friend’, with music legends Sting and Nile Rodgers, to raise money for the Power of Music Fund.
Tony is touring the UK in 2023 and 2024. Head to www.tonychristie.com for the full tour dates and tickets.

Eliza Rose and Calvin Harris drop new house tune Body Moving

OHMYGOSSIP — Eliza Rose and Calvin Harris have released the collaboration ‘Body Moving’.
The chart-topping ‘B.O.T.A. (Baddest of Them All)’ hitmaker slid into the superstar DJ and producer’s DMs last year to ask if he’ll get into the studio together – and he jumped at the chance.
The shimmering house tune came together after the DJ and vocalist performed at one of his Ushuaïa shows in Ibiza in the summer.
Calvin said: “So excited to get this one out! Eliza is amazing!”
Eliza said: “My goal was to create a track that captures the essence of summer while also igniting the dance floors. The vibe with Calvin has been fabulous. He couldn’t be more down-to-earth. It’s been an honour to work with one of the best producers in the world! It’s something I never thought would be possible. We have created something that I believe has really combined our two identities into something unique and also reflective of our own personal work.”
The team-up with Calvin follows Eliza’s Mura Masa-produced UKG bubbler ‘Better Love’ and ‘Pleasure Peak’ with Martinez Brothers.
Eliza, 31, piped Sir Elton John and Britney Spears to number one in the UK chart when ‘B.O.T.A.’ beat ‘Hold Me Closer’ last year, making her the first female DJ to top the Official Singles Chart in over 20 years.
She gushed at the time: “I just want to say thank you to everyone who listened, streamed and downloaded. This is The People’s Rhythm and I feel like everyone came together to get this to Number 1. I never expected it in a million years. Thank you. It’s fabulous!”

Dua Lipa’s goal is to ‘change pop culture’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dua Lipa wants to “change pop culture”.
The 28-year-old pop star inspired a whole new generation with her seminal 2020 disco-pop LP ‘Future Nostalgia’, and as her third album campaign gets underway, her team says they are aiming to change the pop landscape again.
Warner’s Alex Burford told Music Week: “A successful Dua campaign is one that lasts a couple of years or more. We want more diamond records. We want streams of two billion plus. We want her to be the most streamed artist in the world.”
He added: “We went into the campaign thinking, ‘Judge us in two years’ and we want to have huge culturally important moments in that time, in the same way Future Nostalgia defined a particular time and became a really important album. The goal is not to have success in any one week, the goal is to change pop culture.”
So far, Dua has released the lead single ‘Houdini’ from the LP, which sees the star go from disco-pop to electronic psychedelic pop.
She recruited Kevin Parker of the Psychedelic outfit Tame Impala to co-produce the upcoming record alongside rave and electronic pioneer Danny L. Harle.
Meanwhile, Dua says she is thrilled to have bought back her publishing rights to her back catalogue, while encouraging young artists to get lawyered up.
Speaking to Audacy, she said: “I think it’s just something I’ve always wanted — to be in control of my own music.”
She added: “To be able to have all the rights back to my songs feels really good. It’s my life’s work, so it’s good to be the person to say what happens with it.”
Asked about Taylor Swift re-recording her early albums due a feud over her master rights, she said: “I think what had happened to Taylor obviously was something that completely started getting people to understand that they should have a lawyer, and understand the business of music, for sure! I think owning your publishing was just something that I really wanted to have.”

Andre 3000’s life is dominated by ‘music and more music’

OHMYGOSSIP — Andre 3000’s daily routine consists of “music and more music”.
The Outkast musician – whose real name is Andre Benjamin – is back with his debut solo album ‘New Blue Sun’.
Shining an insight into his working process in an interview from the archives of the relaunched BLAG magazine, Andre admitted that his life revolves around creating music and ideas for songs.
He said: “The typical day. I’ll get up, listen to songs I’ve worked on last night, see if they still sound good to me. I will get breakfast, but usually breakfast is lunch for me because I may not get up until 1 or 2pm. Go buy something, or go look for something. Find something to snack on. Music. More music. Ummm… Go see a movie. Work on more music. Go to sleep. Get back up and repeat it and see if I like what I worked on last night!”
BLAG is revisiting the times they’ve worked together with Andre for a special cover feature with interviews, along with unseen and rarely seen photographs and Polaroids.
BLAG is back after an unexpected and extraordinary hiatus.
British twins Sally A. Edwards and Sarah J. Edwards founded the publication but were involved in a major bikes accident in central London in December 2021 resulting in very serious injuries with multiple broken bones, tissue and membrane damage in their left arms, elbows and hands each, damaged ribs and legs. Sarah’s face had multiple broken bones and teeth and embedded debris in her chin.
The twins spent much time rehabilitating with some gruelling experimental physiotherapy to rebuild their left arms each and relearn how to use their wrists and hands.
The magazine is available for pre-order and all orders at www.Blag.london and all orders placed will go towards Sally and Sarah’s relaunch.

‘You do need to drive the system a little hard’: U2’s Sphere Las Vegas show wasn’t rock ‘n’ roll enough

OHMYGOSSIP — U2’s Bono admits the sound of their ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere’ show in Las Vegas wasn’t “rock ‘n’ roll” enough to start with.
The Irish rockers have been having to drive their sound harder to get the distortion they are used to during their residency at the state-of-the-art, multi-billion-dollar immersive MSG Sphere at the Venetian, which sees gig-goers placed in a “360-degree sonic spectrum” where the sound is the same wherever they are sitting.
Speaking to MOJO magazine, the frontman said: “We didn’t know if the building was going to work.
“There were engineers and builders and plasterers and people wiring stuff up right up to the very last minute.
“The first night was not as rock’n’roll as it needed to be.
“I mean, I’m relieved that the sound is as great as everyone says, but distortion is part of the language of rock’n’roll. You do need to drive the system a little hard. So we got that the second night. We got a bit more rock’n’roll, but there’s more to go.”
U2 have been performing their 1991 album ‘Achtung Baby’ in full alongside some fan-favourites at the high-tech venue.
The ‘With or Without You’ hitmakers recently surprised fans by bringing out Lady Gaga to duet on her mega-hit ‘Shallow’.
The 37-year-old pop superstar had checked out the legendary Irish rock group’s show at the Sphere with her boyfriend Michael Polansky.
And she returned weeks later, this time duetting with Bono and The Edge on her 2018 hit from her blockbuster movie ‘A Star Is Born’.
The Grammy winner previously duetted with U2 on ‘Ordinary Love’ during the band’s ‘iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE’ tour at Madison Square Garden in 2015.

Emeli Sande can ‘understand’ her songs much better now that she is older: ‘I predicted my future!’

OHMYGOSSIP — Emeli Sande thinks she has “predicted her own future” with her music.
The 36-year-old singer has been writing songs since she was a child and has enjoyed major success in the music industry since she was in her early twenties but feels that it is only now that she can relate to her songs as she can “understand” what she was trying to say at the time.
She told The Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “It’s so weird, it feels like my songs are predicting my future. I have songs that I wrote seven years ago – and when I sing them now, I am like, ‘Oh this makes so much more sense now. Now that I am older I am able to fully understand what I was trying to say then. It’s like the songs are leaving the reverse breadcrumbs.”
The Brit Award-winning star has now released her fifth studio album ‘How Were We To Know’ and admitted that while she wants to “grow” as an artist, it can be tricky to “get the balance” when it comes to pleasing an audience.
But, she still enjoys playing classic tracks like ‘Next to Me’ and ‘Read All About It’ for the crowd because it makes her feel “confident” on stage.
She added: “‘For me as an artist, I want to grow and try different approaches. “It’s hard to get the balance because I will be like ‘Let’s do a jazz version’ and then they will be so disappointed if the song they came to see sounds nothing like what they remember.
“But it’s great to have songs that you know will be crowd pleasers. It makes me feel confident going on stage.’

Maren Morris had to record her duet with Teddy Swims when she was ill

OHMYGOSSIP — Maren Morris had to record her duet with Teddy Swims when she was ill.
The 33-year-old singer has teamed up with fellow musician Teddy, 31, on the new track ‘Some Things I’ll Never Know’ but was struck down by an illness on the only day she could be in the studio and is hoping that the “heartbreak” she felt in that moment added something to the sound of the song.
She told People: “I was a little bummed that it was the only day I could do the vocal and I was sick. And so [co-writers Julian Bunetta and John Ryan] were assuring me that it still sounded good, even though I felt so stopped up in it. But it maybe added to my heartbreak in the vocal.”
The ‘My Chruch’ songstress went on to add that the recording process was an experience that she will “never forget” and she felt as if she could see God whenever she was haromising with Teddy and described the new track as a “beautiful song” that resonates with her.
She said: ” It was definitely an experience that I’ll never forget, just because I didn’t think about hitting certain notes perfectly. I wasn’t overthinking or over analyzing. I was just so in the emotions of Teddy’s vocal, and just found my footing throughout the second verse, and just feeling like you see God or something when you get to harmonize with a vocal like Teddy’s.
“It just resonates — the meaning of the lyric resonates with me so much right now. It’s just such a beautiful song with or without me on it, but I’m obviously so honored to be a small part of this one.”

Kelsea Ballerini originally recorded THIS song with Jonas Brothers

OHMYGOSSIP — Kelsea Ballerini was replaced after recording a song with the Jonas Brothers.
The 30-year-old country superstar confirmed she was originally featured on the group’s latest track ‘Strong Enough’ but it was decided to release a version with Bailey Zimmerman instead.
During an Instagram Ask Me Anything session while on a plane, one fan asked: “jonas brothers collab when.(sic)”
Kelsea replied: “to be honest, i was on strong enough but did indeed get replaced hahahaha. (sic)”
But the ‘Miss Me More’ singer had no hard feelings as she thinks her replacement did a “sick” job.
She added: “but bailey is sick.(sic)”
The ‘Half of my Hometown’ hitmaker also added a tearful emoji and a melting face emoji, which is typically used to indicate embarrassment or shame.
Elsewhere during the session, Kelsea teased she may be getting back on the road soon.
One fan wrote: “I had a dream u announced an arena tour last night … thoughts?(sic)”
Along with a video in which she smiled and winked, the singer replied: “gotta make the next record first. I’m on it.(sic)”
Jonas Brothers previously revealed they were “so excited” to team up with 23-year-old Bailey on ‘Strong Enough’.
They said in a statement: “We’re so excited to team up with Bailey for ‘Strong Enough’!
“He’s such a talented artist who’s had an amazing year, so it’s been a blast collaborating with him.”
And Bailey admitted being asked to be part of the collaboration had blown his mind.
He said: “I’ve been a fan of the Jonas Brothers for as long as I can remember. I literally grew up with them! It’s been incredible to get to know Joe, Nick, and Kevin, and we’ve already shared some memories I’ll never forget.
“The fact that they would ask me to be on a song still blows my mind. I hope y’all like it as much as I do!”

Blink-182 set to headline Reading and Leeds

OHMYGOSSIP — Blink-182 are set to headline next year’s Reading and Leeds festivals.
The ‘All The Small Things’ rockers have reportedly left a gap in their touring schedule to accommodate the gigs, which take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend, and will receive a cool £1 million for the shows.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Blink-182 is a huge get for Reading and Leeds, given the band’s recent surge in popularity.
“They are planning to do a two-hour set and it will really put the festival on the map, with fans set to travel from all over the globe.”
If the group do sign up for the festivals, it is possible their performance could be caught on film because Tom DeLonge recently revealed they are regularly approached to make a Taylor Swift-style concert movie and he and bandmates Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker are considering doing it for their upcoming tour.
Tom told Cinema Blend: “It always comes across the desk every few months. Some version.
“We’ve talked about doing something on this next tour that we just launched, like, today.”
While they’re up for it, the musician – who returned to the fold earlier this year as the band’s famous lineup got back together – joked fans might be tempted to the cinema for “d*** jokes” rather than the songs themselves.
He said: “We’ve definitely talked about versions. You know, Taylor is a phenomenon. She can demand ticket sales.
“You and I both know how hard it is to get people to want to go to a movie theater.
“I don’t know if people would come to see Blink in a movie theater for the music, but they might come for the d*** jokes. So maybe we focus on that?”
Taylor’s concert film hit cinemas last month and became the highest grossing concert film or documentary ever, with its opening weekend pulling in $123.5 million around the world.

Howard Donald felt pressure as ‘weakest writer’ in Take That

OHMYGOSSIP — Howard Donald feels like the “weakest writer” in Take That
Unlike bandmates Gary Barlow, 52, and Mark Owen, 51, the 55-year-old musician hasn’t released a solo album and he wanted to step up a level after the ‘Greatest Day’ hitmakers signed with EMI for their upcoming record ‘This Life’.
He told Music Week magazine: “I thought, ‘I’ve gotta come up with something great’, so I went off and did co-writes with people I felt comfortable with.
“We brought out stuff to the table, which was a very nerveracking for thing for me, where I’ve got to be prepared for criticism and I’m not very good at [taking] it.
“But luckily, I brought the right songs in. I always feel like the weakest writer out of the three of us.”
However, Gary has thrown his suport behind Howard and insisted his friend is “the best version” of himself on the new album.
He added: “By saying he’s the weakest, Howard is touching on confidence.
“If I was going to say anything about this record being different, it’s that this is the best version of you I’ve ever seen.
“You brought the best songs I’ve ever heard you write.”
The group – who have been a three piece since 2014 with no plans for Jason Orange or Robbie Williams to return in the near future – are already looking ahead to their next collection.
Gary said: “We’re in a good place at the moment. We’re already working on music for next year. It feels natural.”
His comments echo his previous point that the duo haven’t been factored into plans for a long time.
He previously explained: “The one thing I keep hearing is that Take That are coming back but there’s no Robbie and Jason.
“Robbie hasn’t been in the band since 2011 and Jason left in 2014.
“We’ve always said they’re welcome to join us but we’ve done about 600 shows since they were around.
“We’re a three at the moment and we’re doing OK.”

A new direction! Liam Payne ‘films comeback music video in Ireland’

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Payne has shot his comeback music video in Ireland.
The 30-year-old singer touched down in Ireland last month and filmed his latest clip, but the tune’s release has been delayed until next year after he was hospitalised in Italy in September when he was struck down with agonising kidney pain while on holiday in Lake Como with girlfriend Kate Cassidy.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Liam flew to Ireland in October to film the video, but while fans saw him out and about he managed to keep the shoot under wraps.
“Initially the release was for the end of 2023 but with Liam being admitted to hospital in September the timeline has been pushed back.”
Liam is now planning to drop his new single “in the first few months of 2024”.
The source added: “He’s now doing great and the plan is to drop the comeback single in the first few months of 2024. After a lot of searching he’s finally found his sound.”
Liam’s mum, Karen Payne, previously told how she was concerned about her son amid his kidney issues in Italy.
She told MailOnline: “We are all worried sick about it, but we just have to get on.
“It’s horrible – him being all the way over there.
“It’s such a horrible situation and we just hope he’s in the best place possible.
“He’s in Milan and it sounds like he’ll be there for a week. I feel helpless.”
But days later, Liam’s girlfriend Kate confirmed the singer had been released from hospital and was doing well.
She told her TikTok followers: “He is doing so much better. He is out of the hospital and he is in good hands.”
Weeks before his Italian hospitalisation, Liam had axed a number of shows in South America after he revealed he’d been treated for a serious kidney infection.

Billie Eilish fumes ‘nobody ever says a thing about men’s bodies’ as she hits out at ‘double standards’

OHMYGOSSIP — Billie Eilish is furious “nobody ever says a thing about men’s bodies”.
The ‘Bad Guy’ singer, 21, hit out at what she sees as an unfair focus on women’s physiques as she fronted the cover of Variety magazine’s ‘Power of Women’ issue.
She fumed about what she thinks is a double standard between the sexes when it comes to body image: “Nobody ever says a thing about men’s bodies. If you’re muscular, cool. If you’re not, cool. If you’re rail thin, cool.
“If you have a dad bod, cool. If you’re pudgy, love it! Everybody’s happy with it.
“You know why? Because girls are nice. They don’t give a f*** because we see people for who they are!”
Billie also admitted despite knowing she has always had “bog boobs” she has “never felt like a woman”.
The Grammy winner added she doesn’t feel “feminine” or “desirable” and has to train her brain to believe she is a “pretty girl”.
She said: “I’ve never felt like a woman, to be honest with you. I’ve never felt desirable. I’ve never felt feminine. I have to convince myself that I’m, like, a pretty girl. I identify as ‘she/her’ and things like that, but I’ve never really felt like a girl.”
The ‘Your Power’ singer has became renowned for wearing baggy clothes and said she hated it when people suddenly “sexualised” her when she changed her trademark look and showed off skin.
She said: “I wasn’t trying to have people not sexualise me. But I didn’t want people to have access to my body, even visually. I wasn’t strong enough and secure enough to show it. If I had shown it at that time, I would have been completely devastated if people had said anything.
“Maybe my not really caring about being sexualised is because I’ve never felt desired or desirable.”
She added: “I have big boobs. I’ve had big boobs since I was nine years old, and that’s just the way I am. That’s how I look. You wear something that’s at all revealing, and everyone’s like, ‘Oh, but you didn’t want people to sexualise you?’ You can suck my a**! I’m literally a being that is sexual sometimes. F*** you!”

Lily Allen focusing on acting over music as she doesn’t ‘quite understand’ it now

OHMYGOSSIP — Lily Allen is more focused on building her acting career than music as she says she doesn’t “quite understand” the medium any more.
The ‘Smile’ singer, 38, has been based between the UK and her home in New York – which she shares with her ‘Stranger Things’ actor husband David Harbour, 48, and her two kids – as she starred in West End plays in London.
She told Grazia magazine about wanting to chase her acting goals despite finding playing her roles in ‘2:22 A Ghost Story’ and ‘The Pillowman’ “utterly terrifying”: “I don’t think I’ve ever been more scared than before the opening nights.
“I’m a mum. It sounds so tragic and sad. I sort of feel like I’ve had my career. I know I’m only 38.”
Lily added that even though she has been working on music she feels “slightly confused as a creator” as she thinks “the medium’s evolved somewhere that I don’t quite understand”.
Lily also told in her frank chat how jokes about rape when she was on a TV show were horrendous but she laughed at it at the time as “it was the culture”.
She was tackling a clip from Channel 4’s ‘The Big Fat Quiz of the Year’ from 2007, when she was part of a panel including comedian Russell Brand, chat show host Jonathan Ross and ‘Great British Bake Off’ judge Noel Fielding, which was headed by host Jimmy Carr.
Jonathan said he hoped she would “go home with her dress still on”, while Noel said: “How dare you – we’re not rapists.”
When Jimmy then asked why Noel was wearing a cape if he wasn’t a rapist, Russell – who is facing a string of sexual assault claims from multiple women, which he denies – said: “There is no direct (link) between rapes and capes. It’s just a rhyme.”
Lily said she was seen laughing “along with “ the rape jokes as she felt it was the done thing to along with such gags in 2007.
She added: “In retrospect, that’s really horrendous. It makes me uncomfortable but I don’t think I felt that at the time, because it was the culture.”
