Eric Clapton’s iconic guitar sells for a whopping $1.27m

OHMYGOSSIP — Eric Clapton’s ‘The Fool’ guitar has sold at auction for a whopping $1.27 million (£1.03 million).
The six-string 1964 custom ‘Summer of Love’ Gibson SG went under the hammer via Julien’s Auctions in Nashville last week.
The guitar hero used the instrument to record his former band Cream’s 1967 album ‘Disraeli Gears’.
It got its name from the Dutch art collective The Fool.
Clapton gave the guitar to his Cream bandmate George Harrison – who passed away in 2001 aged 58 – and since the Beatle’s death, it’s had a couple of owners.
Darren Julien, President/Chief Executive Officer of Julien’s Auctions said: “Eric Clapton’s The Fool, one of the most important guitars in all of rock music history has made history once again tonight at our auction.
“To have this legendary guitar that created and defined the classic rock sound that is an art masterpiece and symbol of the psychedelic ‘Summer of Love’ era go to Jim Irsay’s renowned memorabilia collection is another great privilege and hallmark of my career and a highlight of Julien’s Auctions twenty-year anniversary celebration this year.”
A portion of the funds will benefit Kicking The Stigma, The Indianapolis Colts and Irsay Family’s mental health awareness program.
Eric Clapton has generously gifted his guitars over the years, and Ed Sheeran was one of those lucky enough to receive oneof them.
However, it had to be restored after being “burnt to a crisp”.
The 32-year-old star has been friends with the ‘Wonderful Tonight’ legend for six years, and he was worried when the instrument was badly damaged in a fire at his studio.
Appearing on the YouTube show ‘Hot Ones’ in 2021, Ed said: “My hero is Eric. When I was 11, I heard Layla, picked up a guitar and went from there. I got to know him in 2015 and we’ve been friends ever since.
“I went to his house, and he took his guitar off the wall and just gave it to me. He signed the back and said, ‘Keep my guitar’. I was like, ‘F. Cool.’
“It was the only guitar in my studio at home and I was on tour and the person looking after my house phoned me up and said, ‘Your music studio is on fire’, and I was like, ‘F! The guitar is in that studio.’
“The guitar comes out and it’s burnt to a crisp.”
Thankfully for Ed, a friend was able to fix the precious guitar – with the autograph still intact – although it was left smelling “like a burnt house”.
He added: “He brought it back totally restored, but now it smells like a burnt house.
“But it plays amazing, looks amazing, actually kind of smells amazing and it still has Eric’s signature on it. That’s my favourite guitar.”
After the fire in 2019, the guitar was restored by Monty’s Guitars, and a post on the company’s Instagram revealed the work they did.
They wrote: “Once we had looked it over it became apparent that, structurally, the guitar was pretty much sound and the damage was largely cosmetic.
“Luckily the back with EC’s signature was really the only thing not resembling a charcoal briquette, so we decided he best thing to do was strip it, spray it and rebuild it…
“We were really proud to be part of the project and thrilled that Ed was happy with the guitar!”

Ludacris to release new music in 2024

OHMYGOSSIP — Ludacris is planning to release new music in 2024 after stepping away from the industry to focus on his acting career.
The 46-year-old rapper has confirmed he’s working on new projects eight years after he dropped his last album ‘Ludaversal’ back in 2015, but Ludacris has confessed he doesn’t yet know what form his new release will take.
He told BET.com: “Some music projects will be coming out next year. I don’t wanna fake, I don’t wanna stutter-step. I don’t wanna be like [Andre] 3000 and say, I got an album coming out. I don’t know.”
“It’s definitely some music coming next year, but I don’t know if it’s like an EP or an LP. We’re going to figure it out.”
He went on to explain he hasn’t released an album in more than a decade because he’s been busy with movie projects such as the ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise and Netflix series ‘Karma’s World’.
The musician added: “These movie projects like ‘Fast and Furious’ and doing a lot of things like the ‘Karma’s World’ project that’s on Netflix [have been taking up taime].
“You know, doing other art forms where I’m creative, where I’m putting my heart into that, I want to make sure that I leave a legacy on this earth. So it was just taking a step back and getting hungry again, living some life.”
He went on to add taking so many years off from the industry will hopefully improve his new music.
Ludacris explained: “When you put out music, in order for it to be organic and real, you gotta talk about what goes on in your life. So if I had, like, nine consistent albums, sometimes you gotta take a step back and live some life so that you have a lot more to talk about, and that’s what I was doing.”

KISS axe Canadian show as member of ‘band party’ suffers ‘unforeseen illness’

OHMYGOSSIP — KISS cancelled their concert in Canada last night (21.11.23) – due to “unforeseen illness” within “the band party”.
The ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’ group – comprising Gene Simmons,74, Paul Stanley,71, Tommy Thayer, 63, and Eric Singer, 65 – had to pull out of their ‘End of the Road Tour’ concert at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, after an unknown member of their touring party got sick.
A statement from the venue and promoter Live Nation read: “KISS has cancelled their show that had been scheduled for tonight at Canadian Tire Centre. Below is their official statement.
“Due to an unforeseen illness in the band party, we are unable to perform tonight.”
Back during the COVID-19 pandemic, co-frontman and rhythm guitarist Paul branded rumours spreading suggesting he was seriously ill and in intensive care as “absolute nonsense” and reassured fans that he was doing “fine”.
He wrote on Twitter at the time: “PEOPLE!!! I am fine! I am not in ICU! My heart allows me to do 26 miles a day on my bike! I don’t know where this came from but it’s absolute nonsense. (sic)”
The glam metal group had been forced to cancel their Philadelphia show in August 2021, just four days into the final tour, due to Paul testing positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, Gene recently said he would love to see KISS continue with four new musicians.
The veteran rockers are bringing their stage career to an end at Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 2, but Gene is open to the ‘Detroit Rock City’ group handing over the “baton” and having younger talent continue under the band’s name.
He told Rolling Stone: “You want to go out while you’re on top.
And remember, we introduce ourselves with, ‘You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest mofo band on the planet, Kiss.’ At some point, those words are not going to mean very much, when I’m in my rocket-propelled wheelchair with a hot nurse pushing me around.”
Asked if he would allow other musicians to keep the band going, he replied: “I’m totally open to that idea.
“Why not pass the baton, pass the crown to four new, young people who are deserving?”

U2 press pause on new tunes while Larry Mullen Jr recovers from neck surgery

OHMYGOSSIP — U2’s new album has been put on pause due to drummer Larry Mullen Jr’s health battle.
The 62-year-old sticksman is currently recovering from neck surgery and was forced to sit out the group’s ongoing Las Vegas residency at the MSG Sphere.
And his inability to perform right now means the ‘With or Without’ hitmakers can’t pen new tunes.
Speaking to MOJO magazine, frontman Bono, 63, said: “Starting work on new songs is somewhat tied to Larry’s situation.
“Could he commit to an album project? I don’t know.”
The lead singer says new music without him wouldn’t feel the same as he brings a “psychic force” to U2.
He said of him and guitarist The Edge, 62, having to play without him: “It’s beyond the beyond of ‘tough’.
“It was the late ’70s, the last time we played without Larry. I think a motorcycle fell on his foot, and he couldn’t play, and we had a drummer called Eric [Briggs]. That wasn’t a great feeling, but Eric was very good-looking, and Larry hurried back – he hopped behind the kit! But it’s not just that, you know, it’s a psychic force that Larry brings.”
Bono put a planned acoustic album called ‘Songs of Ascent’ on hold because he wants U2 to release a “noisy, uncompromising, unreasonable guitar album” first.
Guitarist The Edge previously said he’s been busy working on lots of different tunes.
Asked if he’s working on new ideas with the guitar, he told Guitar Player magazine: “I know the answer to that. [laughs] I’ve been working a lot on new guitar music, and I’m very excited about it. It’s at that prototype stage where … who knows? But the answer to the question is ‘yes.’ I’m finding myself for the first time in a little while getting very excited about the electric guitar again. Maybe it’s something to do with the lockdown, having the time to not do very much.
“For me, that was such a creative opportunity.”
He teased: “We have a lot of great material in the pipeline.”
Bono revealed in October that the upcoming record – which the group have been teasing since 2009 – won’t be their next LP because he is keen to drop a rock record first.
He told The New York Times in October: “We all make mistakes. The progressive-rock virus gets in, and we needed a vaccine. The discipline of our songwriting, the thing that made U2 – top-line melody, clear thoughts – had gone.
“With the band, I was like, this is not what we do, and we can only do that experimental stuff if we have the songwriting chops. So we went to songwriting school, and we’re back and we’re good! Over those two albums, ‘Songs Of Innocence and Experience’, our songwriting returned. Now we need to put the firepower of rock ‘n’ roll back.
“I don’t know who is going to make our f***-off rock ‘n’ roll album. You almost want an AC/DC, you want Mutt Lange. The approach. The discipline. The songwriting discipline. That’s what we want.”
However, they can’t complete anything until Larry is well and ready.

AC/DC’s 2024 Munich stadium show leaked by city’s mayor

OHMYGOSSIP — AC/DC’s 2024 stadium show was leaked by Munich’s mayor.
Dieter Reiter let slip that the ‘Highway To Hell’ rockers are playing at the Olympic Stadium on June 12.
He later said at a council meeting, as quoted by Planet Rock: “I didn’t know it was supposed to be a secret.”
The Brian Johnson-fronted band has yet to comment on the Mayor’s leak or announce a stadium show/tour.
In September, the group reignited rumours they could be planning a world tour.
The band has not toured since 2016 but returned with old and new members when they headlined the Power Trip festival in California in October.
They posted a clip of rehearsals showing them performing their classic track ‘If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)’, alongside information on the latest line-up.
Bassist Cliff Williams, 73, is back in the fold alongside Angus Young, 68, and 76-year-old Brian – but drummer Phil Rudd, 69, sat it out.
The band has recruited 55-year-old drummer Matt Laug in his place, who has played with artists including Alanis Morissette, Alice Cooper and Slash.
Promoters have been trying to get AC/DC to tour for years and the band are said to be willing to do more shows in 2024 as singer Brian’s hearing has improved.
A source told the Daily Star’s Wired column: “For a while it looked like an AC/DC would never play live again. Technology has helped Brian get back to doing what he loves best.
“More dates are being looked at for next year, some big shows.”
Brain was forced to quit the group’s tour in 2016 or face permanent hearing loss – with Axl Rose completing the rest of the band’s run.
But Brain worked with audio expert Stephen Ambrose on a new type of earbud that allows the rocker to perform without causing further damage to his eardrums.
He used them while making AC/DC’s 2020 record ‘Power Up!’ and he hailed the innovation as a “revelation” for his life and performance.

Mark Knopfler is selling 120 guitars

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Knopfler is selling off his guitar collection for good causes.
The Dire Straits legend has announced the sale of 120 of his guitars, with estimates ranging from £300 to £500,000, with a quarter of the funds raised going to multiple charities.
The sale will take place at Christie’s in London on January 31, and the non-profits that will benefit from the sales include the British Red Cross, Tusk and Brave Hearts Of The North East.
Mark, 74, said: “I’ll be sad to see them go, but we’ve had wonderful times together and I can’t play them all.”
The axe expected to fetch the most, a whopping £300,000-500,000, is the 1959 vintage Gibson Les Paul Standard which Knopfler used on tours in 2001 and 2008.
The ‘Money For Nothing’ hitmaker told the auction house in a video: “It’s exciting having those guitars that figured so big on that record be in the sale. Each one brings back loads of memories. If you would have asked me 20 years ago I’d have thought, No way! But I’m happy now that they’re going to different homes.”
The guitar sale news comes days after it was revealed that the iconic group won’t reunite – despite being offered “huge amounts of money” to get the band back together.
Bassist John Illsley, 74, revealed the ‘Sultans of Swing’ hitmakers’ manager, Paul Crockford, is always telling him about the large sums of money people are willing to pay to see the Grammy-winning rock band back on stage.
In an interview with The Telegraph, he said: “Every time we have lunch, [he] says to me, ‘I wish people would stop offering me huge amounts of money to put [Dire Straits] back together.’”
The ‘Brothers in Arms’ band – which was also comprised of Mark’s brother and guitarist David Knopfler and drummer Pick Withers – split for good in 1995, after six studio albums.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers – who formed in 1977 – had briefly parted ways in 1988, before reuniting in 1990.
However, John insists the group ended at the right time because it was getting in the way of their personal lives.
He added: “Most of our marriages were falling apart, we weren’t seeing our children very much – it was all wrong. It’s the usual things that can happen to people in bands.”

David Guetta had no plans to release Bebe Rexha track

OHMYGOSSIP — David Guetta initially had no plans to release ‘I’m Good (Blue)’ until a sample on TikTok changed his mind.
The DJ scored a huge hit with the track – a collaboration with singer Bebe Rexha – which spent spent 55 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart and won him the best dance/electronic song prize at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (19.11.23) but he’s now revealed he didn’t actual think it was worth releasing.
Speaking to Billboard, he explained: “The story of ‘I’m Good’ is actually crazy because we’re just jamming in the studio four years ago and we didn’t want to put it out really.
“I just played it as a tool in a DJ set and someone sampled it. It all started with TikTok because someone used it as a TikTok sound and now here we are a full year No. 1 Billboard. This is really incredible.”
David and Bebe performed the song during the awards show at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena and the singer hinted at the track’s humble beginnings in her acceptance speech when the pair picked up the prize.
She told the audience: “I want to say thank you so much to Billboard, thank you to my fans – come on, Rexhars! Stand up, let’s go! … [It’s been an] incredible journey [with this song].
“We did it in 2017 and we didn’t think it was going to become such a worldwide anthem. We wanted to just flip a fun song from back in the day and just make it feel good. I just can’t believe how far this song has gone. Fifty-two weeks at No. 1, OK? I grew up watching Billboard and to be here right now is such an awesome, full-circle moment.”
The prizegiving was topped by Taylor Swift, who won 10 prizes, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist and Top Billboard 200 Artist, and US country star Morgan Wallen who claimed 11 prizes, including Best Male Artist and Best Country Male Artist.

Taylor Swift gushes it was ‘unreal’ to win 10 prizes at 2023 Billboard Music Awards

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift gushed that it was “unreal” to win 10 prizes at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards.
The ‘Karma’ hitmaker won 10 prizes, including Top Artist, Top Female Artist and Top Billboard 200 Artist, and was the biggest female winner of the night.
She is now tied with Drake, who scooped five prizes at Sunday’s (19.11.23) ceremony at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, as the artist with the most wins in the Top Artist category.
The 33-year-old superstar dedicated the “unreal” wins to her loyal Swifties.
In her pre-recorded acceptance speech filmed on her ‘Eras Tour’, she gushed: “Well, this is unreal. The fact that you guys have given me 10 Billboard Awards — I’m talking to the fans, specifically — none of this happens without you.
“The fact that you guys have given me 10 Billboard awards, I’m talking to the fans specifically, none of this happens without you.
“Billboards base everything off of what you are listening to and what you’re passionate about and I’m so honoured that this year you made the tour – The Eras Tour – so magical. You went and saw the movie, you cared about my re-recordings. I just like – I love you so much, I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have you in my corner and caring about the music that I make so thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you ten million times for this.”
US country star Morgan Wallen was the biggest winner of the night, claiming 11 prizes, including Best Male Artist and Best Country Male Artist.
‘One Thing At A Time’ was named both Top Billboard 200 Album and Best Country Album.
Morgan’s song ‘Last Night’ dominated, taking Top Hot 100 Song, Top Streaming Song and Best Country Song.
The 30-year-old musician also performed ’98 Braves’, which is a tribute to Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves, who, in 1998, won 106 games and made it through to the World Series, but lost to the Padres in six games.
He was introduced on stage by pitchers Tom Glavine and John Smoltz from the 98 Braves.
Referencing the book ’98 Braves’ by Josh Miller, John Byron and Travis Wood, Morgan said: “Like the song says, ‘You win some, you lose some.’”
He continued about his lack of wins at this year’s CMA Awards: “The last awards show I went to, we came home empty-handed. This one, I don’t have enough hands for them all. So either way, I promise I’m gonna stay the same, whether we come home with 10 or zero. I’m gonna give y’all my all, every single night and every time I go into the studio. … All these awards are really, it’s for my fans. So thank you guys so much.”
He added: “You took a boy from east Tennessee, driving a two-door Toyota Tacoma, and turned me into one of Billboard‘s top artists. God bless y’all.”
Mariah Carey was presented with a special award by her 12-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe.
The 54-year-old pop diva was handed the Chart Achievement Award for the timeless 1994 festive hit ‘All I Want For Christmas’, which she also performed.
The Yuletide tune is the first song in Billboard history to lead the Hot 100 charts across five distinct years and the only song to rain in more than two individual years.
Mariah said: “Thank you babies. Thank you. Thank you so much. I couldn’t ask for better presenters than Roc and Roe. Thank you guys. Alright well, I just want to say Billboard has been an integral part of my life for a very long time now. Even though I don’t acknowledge time, I kind of have to admit that some of my most memorable times in my career are connected to Billboard and the BBMAs. One thing I really have to say is that I’m so grateful for the fact that my fans have been here with me through the hits, the misses, the No. 1 and the bubbling unders. I love you so much. This award is particularly special to me because the song itself changed my entire life. When I first sat down to write ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. I never could have imagined that I would be standing here three months later accepting a special award for it okay, so I just want to say thank you to everyone who’s allowed this song to be part of their holiday soundtrack each year. I’m so honoured to be receiving this award for this little songs chart achievements but the greatest achievement for me is being here with all of you and feeling the love that only music can generate. Thank you so much!”
SZA, NewJeans, Zach Bryan and BTS’ Jungkook also won prizes, with the latter earning his first solo BBMA for Top Global K-Pop Song’ for ‘SEVEN’ featuring Latto.
This year, the ceremony was live-streamed instead of being televised.

Nicola Roberts posts countdown timer seemingly for Girls Aloud reunion

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicola Roberts appears to be teasing Girls Aloud reunion news with a mysterious countdown.
The 38-year-old singer has posted a clip of a drive-up cinema and a countdown from 4 on the big screen on her Instagram, sparking speculation there is imminent news about the ‘Love Machine’ hitmakers’ comeback.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the surviving members of the group – who split in 2013 after the final night of their ‘Ten: The Hits Tour’ – are said to have secretly reunited at a North London studio in order to work on a video for their first single in 11 years, and Nicola, Cheryl Tweedy, Nadine Coyle and Kimberley Walsh plan to include footage of their late bandmate Sarah Harding to pay tribute to their pal, who died of cancer in 2021.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “This has been one of the best-kept secrets in pop, but it’s actually happening now.
“The girls really came back together as friends to rally around when Sarah died, and it repaired some of the old rifts and put things into perspective. Suddenly the reunion which had seemed totally impossible for so long just felt a totally natural thing to do — in Sarah’s honour.”
The quartet – who arrived at the studio in separate cars, wearing caps and sunglasses in a bid to not be spotted – are said to have donned superhero costumes for the video.
The ‘Biology’ hitmakers intend for the reunion to be more than just a one-off single, with plans also including more music and a tour.
The source added: “They’ve got a single and a video in the can, plans for a full record of new music, and for the fans the most exciting thing will be a massive reunion tour in 2024.
“It’s going to be huge — and they’re all very excited to be back working together, even if there is a bittersweet element to it.
“Of course, whatever they do, there will always be nods to Sarah’s contribution to the group, too.”
Nadine previously declared it would be “wrong” for the band – who initially found fame as the winners of ‘Popstars: The Rivals’ in 2002 and went on to release five studio albums – to get back together without Sarah.
She told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “It wouldn’t be the same.
“It would feel so very wrong without having Sarah at it.”

Jung Kook beat his BTS bandmate Jimin to become first solo winner of Billboard Music Award

OHMYGOSSIP — Jung Kook found it “very hard to express” his “gratitude in words” after becoming the first member of BTS to win a solo Billboard Music Award.
The K-pop superstar, 26, beat his own bandmate Jimin’s song ‘Like Crazy’ to win the brand-new prize, Top Global K-Pop Song, for ‘Seven’ featuring Latto at Sunday night’s (19.11.23) star-studded ceremony at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
In a pre-recorded speech, he said: “Hi, this is Jung Kook of BTS. Thank you so much for the Top Global K-Pop song for ‘Seven.’ It’s truly an honour. It’s very hard to express my gratitude in words. Thank you ARMY and everyone who loves this song. Without you, I couldn’t have got this amazing award.
“While we we’re working on ‘Seven’ I hoped everyone could enjoy this track so the fact that I won this category means a lot to me. I’m so glad to share great music with everyone and thank you again Billboard for this award.”
Rapper Latto, 24, added in her own speech: “Thank you God. Thank you, Jung Kook. Obviously, none of this would be possible without you. Shout out to the ARMY shout out to my Jackpots. We love y’all. Thank y’all for the continued support. My first Billboard Music Award. Yeah, I was nominated last year for the first time and I performed for the first time—and now I’m taking something home, you feel me. And my fans–thank you to my fans.”
South Korean girl group NewJeans were shortlisted twice in the category for ‘Ditto’ and ‘OMG’.
Fifty Fifty’s ‘Cupid’ was also nominated.
With ‘My Universe’ hitmakers BTS, Jung Kook and 28-year-old Jimin – who are joined by V, 27, RM, 29, SUGA, 30, Jin, 30, and j-hope, 29, in the boy band – have won 12 Billboard Music Awards.

The Rolling Stones teases 2024 world tour with signs displayed across the US

OHMYGOSSIP — The Rolling Stones have teased a huge 2024 world tour.
Sir Mick Jagger, 80, Keith Richards, 79, and Ronnie Wood, 76, have displayed their famous tongue-and-lips logo at various locations over the weekend.
In Denver, a giant banner appeared at Empower Field at Mile High, the home of the NFL’s Broncos.
The Stones’ logo also appeared atop two Aston Martin vehicles racing in the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Saturday (18.11.23)
The luxury car maker teased “an exciting incoming announcement by the legendary rockers.”
And now, a source has claimed the jaunt will kick off in the US in April.
It follows their 2022 shows with new drummer Steve Jordan – who replaced the late Charlie Watts following his death aged 80 in August 2021 – and the release of their chart-topping first album of original material in 18 years, ‘Hackney Diamonds’, released in October.
The insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “The tour will be huge.
“Despite their advancing years, the Stones have zero plans to slow down.
“An official announcement is set to be made in the coming days with the first batch of dates.
“Their latest record Hackney Diamonds proved they are bigger than ever and the tour is tipped to be an almost immediate sell-out.”
Whilst the ‘Start Me Up’ group show no signs of slowing down, guitarist Keith recently admitted it’s likely they will live on with a hologram show.
The legendary musician said they are “bound to” have their own avatar show – whether he likes it or not.
Keith is undecided on whether he would still want to be alive if they have their own ABBA Voyage-style show with digital avatars replacing the band members.
Speaking to Matt Wilkinson on Apple Music 1, he said: “Well, I certainly wouldn’t rule it out. I’m pretty sure that it is bound to happen. Do I want it? Now, that’s another thing. But I don’t know if I want to hang around that long enough, man. But at the same time, it won’t be up to me, will it?”
Keith’s comments came after Mick spoke about the possibility of the ‘Angry’ hitmakers living on with a “posthumous tour” with the band recreated on stage.
Although he didn’t state whether his band would have a hologram show, it’s not the first time he’s mentioned it.
He told The Wall Street Journal: “You can have a posthumous business now, can’t you? You can have a posthumous tour. The technology has really moved on since the ABBA thing, which I was supposed to go to, but I missed it.”

Dolly Parton sent love note to Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr

OHMYGOSSIP — Dolly Parton sent a “love note” to Beatles Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
The ‘9 to 5’ hitmaker was “very humbled” after the surviving members of the legendary rock’n’roll group agreed to re-record their 1970 classic ‘Let It Be’ for her rock record ‘Rockstar’ after she sang their praises in the special request.
She told NPR of approaching Paul, 81, and Ringo, 83: “So I just sent them a love note through their managers, and I just said what I was doing. And I said, I didn’t want to put you on the spot, but I’d love to have you sing with me on my rock album. And if you’re interested, call me at this number. And all the people I reached out to said, yes, we’d love to, and I was very honoured and very proud and very humbled by that.”
Dolly has confessed to feeling like she was “hitting on” the artists she asked to feature on the star-studded album.
She is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column as saying: “Now, I’ll do anything people ask me, but when it comes to me asking a favour from somebody – I’m just real backwards about that.
“It makes me feel like I’m hittin’ on ’em.
“But they were all good about that.”
The 77-year-old music legend previously recalled how she ran around “like a high-school girl” trying to get Sir Mick Jagger on a song.
The ‘Jolene’ hitmaker – who has been married to her other half for 57 years – explained that many of the songs are her husband Carl Dean’s favourites.
Her spouse particularly “loves” Rolling Stone Sir Mick Jagger, 80, and she asked him to appear on her cover of ‘(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction’, however, he wanted to record something new with Dolly, but she ended up chasing him around due to his hectic schedule and they ultimately ran out of time.
Speaking at a press conference in London to promote the LP, in June, she said: “I wanted him to sing on ‘Satisfaction’ but he wanted something new and different, which I don’t blame him for that, so I wound up singing that with Pink and Brandi Carlile.
“We kept looking for the right song and he was doing an album in LA, and he did some stuff in Nashville, and I kept missing him everywhere. I ran him around like a high-school girl.”
The record also features Stevie Nicks, 75, Sir Elton John, 76, Chris Stapleton, 45, and more.
