Thom Yorke has very blunt response to fans calling for Radiohead return

OHMYGOSSIP — Thom Yorke “doesn’t give a flying f***” if fans want Radiohead to return.
The 56-year-old singer has been asked about fans’ speculation over the future of the ‘Creep’ hitmakers, who have been on hiatus since 2018, with their most recent studio album being 2016’s ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’.
The frontman told Double J: “I am not aware of it and don’t really give a flying f***.”
Thom insisted Radiohead isn’t his main priority at the moment, while saying him and his bandmates – bassist Colin Greenwood, guitarist Jonny Greenwood, guitarist Ed O’Brien and drummer Philip Selway – have “earned the right” to focus on their own projects.
He added: “No offence to anyone and err, thanks for caring.
“But I think we’ve earned the right to do what makes sense to us without having to explain ourselves or be answerable to anyone else’s historical idea of what we should be doing.”
Colin recently revealed that the band had actually reunited for some rehearsals in the summer.
He told NME: “We got together in the summer just for a couple of days and just ran through all the songs and picked up where we left off in 2018. It was really fun and nice to see everyone.
“We were going to do three or four days but knocked it on the head after two because it was fine and we could still do it.
“My brother said that we’d just need a couple of weeks’ rehearsal and we could go on the road, no problem.”
However, he’s uncertain if the sessions will lead to anything more.
He explained: “Beyond that, everyone’s heads are focused on finishing up what they’ve been doing. My brother has been unwell (hospitalised with a serious infection) and is still recovering.
“Rehearsals were really fun and amicable, though.
“It was great, but beyond that get together, I’m sure we’ll get together and make plans – but for what, I don’t know.”

Pink postpones four concerts

OHMYGOSSIP — Pink has postponed four upcoming concerts.
The ‘Just Like a Pill’ hitmaker had been due to bring her ‘Summer Carnival’ tour to Lincoln, Sioux Falls, Milwaukee and Des Moines over the next few days, but she announced on Saturday (19.10.24) they will no longer be taking place, though she didn’t explain why or when they will be rescheduled for.
She wrote on Instagram: “Due to reasons beyond my control, we need to postpone our next four shows in Lincoln, Sioux Falls, Milwaukee, and Des Moines.
“I’m so disappointed to share this news, but we are working on rescheduling each of these shows as soon as we can. Your tickets will still be valid for the new dates. Please keep an eye out for updates — we’ll have more info soon.
“Thank you for understanding. I’m looking forward to seeing you all very, very soon. Sending love and health to you all.”
Pink’s next concert is now scheduled to take place on 3 November in Austin, Texas, with the tour due to end in Columbia, South Carolina, on 20 November.
In July, the 45-year-old star had to axe a show in Switzerland on “doctor’s advice” and was unable to reschedule the concert.
The promoter said in a statement at the time: “It is with great regret that we have to cancel Pink’s concert on Wednesday, 3 July at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern.
“Due to illness and after a thorough medical examination, the performance has to be cancelled on doctor’s advice.
“Unfortunately, the concert cannot be rescheduled due to the current tour planning.
“Tickets can be returned at the place of purchase.
“We deeply regret the circumstances and thank you for your understanding.
“We wish Pink a speedy and full recovery.”
Last year, the ‘Get The Party Started’ hitmaker, who performs flying aerobics during her energetic concerts, had to cancel shows due to “family medical issues” and her own “respiratory infection” in North America.
The ‘Never Gonna Not Dance Again’ singer also had to cancel a show in Arlington after she was struck down with a sinus infection.
She told fans at the time: “I’m very sorry to report that I have come down with a bad sinus infection, and the doctor advised me not to perform tonight. I am so disappointed. You know I do everything in my power to never miss a show.”

Busted were banned from hanging out with McFly

OHMYGOSSIP — Busted were banned from hanging out with McFly in their early days.
The two groups shared the same management team, and executives were keen to keep the acts apart during their down time in case the ‘Year 3000′ hitmakers’ wild partying ways led their “clean cut” rivals astray.
Busted’s Matt Willis told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “Back in the day, Busted’s management, who also managed McFly, would never let me hang out with them. I was never allowed at anything they were doing. They’d say, ‘Matt, you’re not allowed, they’re really clean cut, really well behaved.’”
But after joining McFly for a Brit Awards afterparty at their house, Matt quickly realised their image was all an act.
He said: “I just thought, ‘These are f****** reprobates. That night… it was messy.”
And bandmate James Bourne admitted: “I broke into the McFly house once. I climbed up the drainpipe into the window on the second floor, and they were all stoned in the cupboard.”
McFly drummer Harry Judd laughed: “He scared the s*** out of us. We were up to no good… we thought the police were coming.”
The two bands – who have previously toured as supergroup McBusted without Busted’s Charlie Simpson – are teaming up for a joint tour next year in which they will go head-to-head and they’ve got “hundreds” of ideas for the concerts.
James said: “The idea is that each band will perform, then we’ll come together to battle it out. There’ll be laser beams shooting out of guitars, and at the end some kind of winner.
“I love the idea of it being a McFly show, and then they sing ‘Bubble Wrap’ – and the first you see of Busted is Charlie coming down from the ceiling like an angel, singing the chorus.
“I’ve got a hundred of those ideas. I wanted to have the intro like in ET, with seven of us flying in on BMX bikes in the sky. That would be epic.”
Matt insisted the tour will be like nothing anyone has seen before.
He said: “The exciting thing about this is that no one’s ever done it before. I’m not sure what other bands could – they wouldn’t have the same history as us.
“We’re intertwined, you can’t talk about either without mentioning the other. That’s why this works so well. We want it to be more than just two shows in one, there’ll be fun bits.
“There’s a thing that happens with us when both bands get together – it takes away the need to try to make the gig cool. We just say right, let’s make this the most entertaining, fun f****** show you could see.
“Let’s throw all these creative ideas at the wall and see what sticks. It’s no holds barred.”

Tears For Fears never wanted to be a live band

OHMYGOSSIP — Tears For Fears had no “desire” to ever play live and admit that mastering performances was a challenge under the public gaze.
The 80s pop duo – comprising Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith, both 63 – were quite happy to never set foot on a stage in their early days with the recording studio being their comfort zone.
However, the ‘Everybody Wants to Rule The World’ hitmakers have come to embrace live shows, which have become integral to their band’s identity.
Speaking to promote the release of their live album ‘Songs For A Nervous Planet’ – which features four new tracks – and the accompanying concert film ‘Tears For Fears Live (A Tipping Point Film)’, Roland told Classic Pop magazine: “We started off with an absolute desire to never play live.
“It was just Curt and I, one synthesizer, and a drum machine in the recording studio.”
Their global tour for the iconic 1985 album ‘Songs from the Big Chair’ catapulted them to fame unprepared, but they learned from their “mistakes.”
Curt said: “It’s not like you regret it, because in the end it’s led you to where you are.
“The unfortunate thing is we were learning in the spotlight.
“Had we known all these things prior, it probably would have been better for us emotionally and mentally.
“But that wasn’t the way it was, so you have to take what you can from it, move on, learn, and not make the same mistakes again.”
After their next jaunt, in support of 1989’s ‘The Seeds of Love’, the band parted ways and reunited in 2000, and released ‘Everybody Loves a Happy Ending’ in 2004.
Despite being seasoned live performers, there is one song Roland refuses to do live, because he wouldn’t be able to control his emotions, admitting singing ‘Please Be Happy’ would “kill me”.
He said: “When you’re in a live situation and you do feel things, all you have to do is just relax and not hold onto it. You can get sad, you can get emotional, but what you can’t afford to do live is let that emotion affect your voice. There’s one song which we don’t do live because that would kill me, which is Please Be Happy. I don’t wanna hear that one!”

KISS’ Paul Stanley calls out Jane’s Addiction for onstage brawl

OHMYGOSSIP — KISS star Paul Stanley has weighed in on Jane Addiction’s stage brawl – branding it “kid s***”.
The band’s gig in Boston on September 13 came to an abrupt end after frontman Perry Farrell, 65, appeared to throw a punch at his bandmate, guitarist Dave Navarro, 57, during a heated confrontation in front of the audience, and Paul insists they owed it to their loyal fans who had paid to see them to deal with their “anger” issues away from the stage.
Speaking on Steve-O‘s ‘Wild Ride’ podcast, he said: “You don’t hit. And you don’t bring your problems onstage. You leave your ego – well, that’s more difficult. But you leave your anger and your resentment at the bottom of the stairs.”
The ‘Rock and Roll All Nite’ hitmaker insists KISS would never disrespect their fans in that way.
He went on: “The audience paid. And that goes back to that same philosophy of [KISS] being the band we never saw.
“People get one chance to see you, possibly on a tour. It doesn’t matter about last night or about the night after – that’s their night, and for them to see you not interacting with your bandmate, that’s kid s***. That’s disrespectful to the people who paid.”
Perry issued a statement apologising for his “inexcusable behaviour”.
The singer wrote at the time: “This weekend has been incredibly difficult and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only that I apologise to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family and friends for my actions during Friday’s show.
“Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behaviour, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”
His wife, Etty Lau Farrell, insisted they were shocked by the outburst as her other half is usually the “gentlest of souls”.
Revealing he was seeking medical treatment following the fight, which led to the band scrapping the rest of their North American tour, Etty explained: “As you know, Perry is the gentlest of souls. We are equally astonished at Perry’s physical outburst as you are – but you must know that Perry must had been pushed to his absolute limit.. to that end we apologise.
“We are taking a bit of time to ourselves, to reflect and to heal. Perry already has appointments with a otolaryngologist and a neurologist. If you know and love Perry well, you know there’s no need for me to address the other false narratives. Our souls know.”
She added: “With all of your love, kindness, compassion and support, you know, Perry will persevere.. He will recover. He will be happy again. He will once again be able to share his music, vision and artistry – unbridled.
“Make no mistake when he’s ready he will take another giant leap over obstacles to make us laugh, think, while changing the world together.
“We can rejoice together then. And you will know, we would not have been able to do it without you.”

Justin Bieber makes surprise appearance at Don Toliver gig

OHMYGOSSIP — Justin Bieber made a surprise appearance onstage with Don Toliver at the rapper’s gig in Los Angeles.
The pop star returned to the stage on Friday (18.10.24) to join Toliver for a performance of their song ‘Private Landing’ at the Crypto.com Arena with the moment being captured on camera by the singer’s wife Hailey, who was in the audience.
Bieber is believed to have been back in the studio working on new music recently and on Sunday (20.10.24), he appeared to confirm the news by sharing pictures of himself recording in a studio.
He’s working with 26-year-old singer-songwriter Mk.gee – who has previously worked with the likes of Dijon, Omar Apollo, and Kacy Hill.
The producer – whose real name is Michael Todd Gordon – recently told The New York Times: “He’s [Justin] searching. Anything that comes out of his mouth: That’s pop music. You can really do pretty wild stuff behind that, just because it represents something.”
Justin, 30, was forced to quit the rest of his ‘Justice World Tour’ in 2022 after suffering partial facial paralysis due to Ramsay Hunt Syndrome and he took a step back from music to prioritise his health.
In an Instagram video when he first postponed shows in June 2022, he explained: “Obviously as you can probably see with my face. I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome and it is from this virus that attacks the nerves in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis. “Can’t believe I’m saying this. I’ve done everything to get better but my sickness is getting worse.
“My heart breaks that I will have to postpone these next few shows (doctors orders.) To all my people I love you so much and I’m gonna rest and get better.” The jaunt was due to end on March 25, 2023, in Kraków, Poland, but wrapped in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on September 4, 2022.
Although fans haven’t had any solo music in a while, Justin featured on Toliver’s ‘Private Landing’ as well as a stripped-back cut of SZA’s ‘Snooze’.
He hasn’t put out an album since 2021’s ‘Justice’.

Richard Ashcroft set to rock Blenheim Palace

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Ashcroft is set to headline Nocturne Live 2025.
The former Verve frontman will be joined by special guests Lightning Seeds and The Zutons when he tops the bill at the picturesque Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on June 19.
Tickets go on general sale at 9am BST on Friday (25.10.24). However, fans signed up to the Nocturne Live mailing list can access a pre-sale tomorrow (22.10.24) at the same time.
Meanwhile, the ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ hitmaker – who will play London’s Royal Albert Hall and Wolverhampton’s Civic Hall this week – is reportedly being lined up to support Oasis on their reunion tour next year.
Richard’s close pal, frontman Liam Gallagher, 52, told fans on X/Twitter that it would be “biblical” having him on board for the ‘Oasis Live ’25 Tour’, which kicks off in Cardiff on July 4.
A report in The Independent recently claimed indie group Cast will perform first before Richard, 53, takes to the stage ahead of Oasis at the shows.
Representatives for Oasis declined to comment on the rumour.
Richard has a long history with Oasis – and his wild 90s’ antics were the inspiration behind Oasis’ 1995 song ‘Cast No Shadow’.
Cast supported Oasis at Knebworth in 1996 and split in 2001 before they reformed in 2010, and their seventh album ‘Love is the Call’ came out in February.
Oasis are set to be supported on their North America shows by US rock band Cage the Elephant, but no support act for their shows in Australia has been announced.
Manic Street Preachers have also been rumoured as a possible back-up group for Oasis.
The ‘Supersonic’ group’s Britpop rivals Blur and the Manic Street Preachers have also been suggested as opening acts.

ELO – which was formed in 1970 by Jeff, Roy Wood of Wizzard and Bev Bevan and featured keyboardist Richard Tandy from 1972 until his death this May aged 76 – reunited at BST Hyde Park in summer 2014, for their first concert in 25 years, so it’s a fitting venue for the big send-off.

“It seems like the perfect place to do our final show. We couldn’t be more excited to share this special night in London with our UK fans.

Jim King, CEO of European Festivals at AEG Presents added: “Jeff Lynne’s ELO are loved the world over. The live shows are nothing short of extraordinary and a testament to the incredible catalogue of hits we’ve enjoyed for over 50 years. Hosting their final performance at BST Hyde Park is a true honour, especially 30 years after their first festival show in the same park. We’re excited to be part of this special moment in music history.”

Lady Gaga to drop new song Disease this week

OHMYGOSSIP — Lady Gaga looks set to drop the new song ‘Disease’ on Friday (25.10.24).
A pre-save link for the track was shared by label Universal Music and comes after eagle-eyed fans noticed the ‘Born This Way’ hitmaker’s streaming discography had been amended with seven tracks from her albums switching to uppercase letters expect for one lowercase.
The seven letters spell “disease.”
The pop superstar had also teased that she was planning to drop the lead single from her eagerly awaited seventh studio album this month.
She wrote: “XX October: LG7 first single.”
The follow-up to 2020’s ‘Chromatica’ is expected to drop in February 2025.
The 38-year-old singer – who starred as Harleen “Lee” Quinzel alongside Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker in the sequel – recently shared how her upcoming record is “nothing like” its predecessor.
She told Rolling Stone: “The pop album is nothing like ‘Chromatica. It’s a completely different record […] What I would say is, it’s all for me.
“It’s meant to be ingested as a time in my life.
“And I’m also really excited about this idea that I don’t have to adhere to an era if I don’t want to. I can have a few going at once. That feels unhinged [laughs] and more like me or Harley. Or whoever.”
The pop album will follow Gaga’s ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ companion LP ‘Harlequin’, whilst she recently had a huge hit with ‘Die With A Smile’ featuring Bruno Mars.
Meanwhile, Gaga is also rumoured to be planning a tour and is looking forward to playing her new music for her fans.
Speaking on the ‘Smallzy’s Surgery’ podcast, she said: “All I can tell you is that I’ve just been feeling so creative, and really connected to music and I’ve been working on so much music. I’m really excited to play it for the fans.”

Lionel Richie announces 2025 Say Hello To The Hits tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Lionel Richie is returning to the UK as part of his 2025 ‘Say Hello To The Hits’ tour.
The ‘Hello’ hitmaker, 75, will play five nights in the UK, kicking off at the SSE Arena in Belfast on 31 May.
Further gigs will take place at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on 4 June, London’s The O2 on 6 June, Sheffield’s Utilita Arena on 8 June, the Utilita Arena in Birmingham on 9 June, and Manchester’s Co-op Live on 12 June.
The ‘All Night Long’ singer will then bring the jaunt to the Europe for the summer.
Opening up about his return to the road, Lionel admitted he has no plans to retire anytime soon.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I am using Mick Jagger as my example of when to come off stage.
“He doesn’t look like he is going off stage anytime soon. So, as far as I am concerned, as long as I can get on stage, run the stage and then get off the stage by myself, I will be doing this for a long time.
“I have the Italian race car driver’s theory. What is behind me doesn’t count — it’s what is in front of me, what am I going to do next?
“I am nosy about what the future is going to be.
“As time goes on, you realise there’s movies and television and touring. I am constantly trying to think of the next thing. You have to plan and work on it.
“I lucked out with half the problem already because the songs and the catalogue survived the test of time.
“I am so excited about this tour. I have been touring since 1971. So if I don’t get out of the house, I don’t feel like I have had a full year.”
Lionel will celebrate his 76th birthday the month of his tour, but the ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ hitmaker insists he doesn’t feel his age.
He said: “They start calling off this number and I’m like, ‘Who, me?’. I have always tried to hold on to the child inside.
“I have always been a believer in, ‘Don’t lose the child’. A lot of my friends couldn’t wait to grow up. I hear the number but it has nothing to do with my body.”
He quipped: “They keep saying ‘Happy Birthday’. If they say it to me one more time I’m going to have a nervous breakdown.”
Tickets will go on public sale on Friday, 25 October at 10am BST via Ticketmaster, AXS, Alt Tickets, Gigantic and direct from each venue.

Jorja Smith, Neneh Cherry, Sampha and more win big at AIM Awards 2024

OHMYGOSSIP — Neneh Cherry quipped that it’s better to be a “pioneer than an old bag” as she was honoured with the Innovator prize at the AIM Independent Music Awards 2024.
The 60-year-old Swedish star – who is known for her genre-defying music – was presented with the special accolade at the bash at London’s Roundhouse in Camden on Thursday night (17.10.24) and admitted that without the backing of the independent music community, she wouldn’t be standing here today collecting an award as a trailblazer.
Neneh – whose career spans more than four decades – said onstage: “Thank you AIM for feeling that I deserve this. I guess it’s better to be a pioneer than an old bag! And I also want to say that, without the independent music community, I’m not sure where I would be. So peace and power to independent thought, independent music and all those who support it!”
The evening also saw 70s’ pop rock duo Sparks – comprising brothers Ron, 79, and Russell Mael, 76 – bestowed with the Outstanding Contribution to Music accolade, and the pair teased a brand-new album is on the way next year after they signed a new deal with indie label Transgressive Records.
R’n’B star Jorja Smith, 27, took home Best Independent Album of the Year for 2023’s ‘Falling or Flying’, but was absent from the ceremony.

A massive, massive thank you to [producer] DAMEDAME* for laughter and fun, and for just being able to express myself and have fun making tunes. I love them so much so it’s amazing that I got to create this album with them [….] And thank you to [record label] FAMM for believing in me from all these years ago to now and the fact that I’m able to put out albums independently.”

Both tracks are from his second album, ‘Lahai’, which marked his first release in more than six years.

I want to dedicate this to the spirit of my brother, who gave me everything in terms of music and was my educator. This is dedicated to Sanie. Thank you so much.”

ROSÉ and Bruno Mars flirt up a storm in playful promo for duet APT.

OHMYGOSSIP — ROSÉ and Bruno Mars flirt up a storm in the new music video for their collaboration.
The BLACKPINK star and the ‘When I Was Your Man’ hitmaker have joined forces on the fun tune ‘APT.’ – which is named after a drinking game the 27-year-old South Korean star taught her “crew” and Bruno, 39, in the studio.
The K-pop idol is seen planting a kiss on Bruno’s cheek in the playful promo.
Sharing the genesis of the song, ROSÉ explained: “‘APT.’ is actually my favourite Korean drinking game that I play with my friends back home. It’s so simple, puts a smile on your face, and breaks the ice at any party.
“One night in the studio I taught my crew how to play the game. Everyone was fascinated, especially when I started the chant, so we played around with it and I said we should make a song out of it… and after Bruno joined the track, the rest became history!”
In an interview with Vogue, ROSÉ actually revealed she wanted her team to delete the track from their phones because she didn’t think a song about a drinking game was a good idea, but after they got hooked on it, she had a change of heart.
She said: “I remember going home [from the studio] kind of freaked out. Is this OK, that I’ve written a song about a drinking game?”
The track is the lead single from ROSÉ’s eagerly awaited debut solo album, ‘rosie’, which lands on December 6.
A press release notes: “The 12-track collection marks ROSÉ’s most personal and candid release to date with her co-writing the project in its entirety, including ‘APT.’”

Victoria Canal slams ‘lethality of the internet and music industry’ after Liam Payne’s death

OHMYGOSSIP — Victoria Canal has hit out at the “lethality of the internet and music industry”, following Liam Payne’s death.
The 31-year-old singer /songwriter died earlier this week after he plunged from his hotel’s balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Victoria, 26, took to Instagram to warn about the dangers of the music industry and to slam those who had been blasting him online before his death.
She wrote: “If Liam Payne’s unexpected early death hit you as hard as it did me, you’re probably thinking about what it says about the state of our society and mental health in this industry. You’ve probably heard the details of the 911 emergency call, seen the pictures of the trashed hotel room, read the condolences.
“Just days before his death, Liam was relentlessly torn apart online for a seemingly douchey display of ego, dancing at Niall Horan’s show in Argentina. Anonymously, millions of people online mocked him as being over-confident, out-of-touch, arrogant. This is a person who, at age 14, was contractually obligated to fulfil an all too rigorous promo and touring schedule, was way too famous to function normally, and was driven into alcohol and feel any semblance of relief.
“The reason I feel so affected by this situation is that even after achieving everything an artist could possibly hope for, and having the financial stability one could only dream of, this young man died alone in the hands of addiction, thinking the entire world hated him.
“As an artist who feels like she’s just desperate to ‘get there’, white-knuckling every moment in a state of severe stress in the hopes of one day arriving to where an artist like Liam was, I feel completely duped by the promises of what ‘success’ in the industry, and how it will make me feel as a human being in myself. The truth is, the more eyes that are on you, the more authority people believe to have over their anonymous cruelty and opinion about you. He was know by millions and felt known by none. How tragic is that?”
She went on to stress how important it is to understand that success in music “cannot be my reason, my purpose”.
And Victoria shared how important it is to find “value in yourself outside of your art, outside of your product, your streams, your brand, your bank account etc. Now more than ever I feel this desperate desire to connect to the artists around me and say, you are not alone, I am not alone. We are not alone.”

Kylie Minogue never planned a Tension II album

OHMYGOSSIP — Kylie Minogue never planned to make a ‘Tension II’.
The 56-year-old singer is following up her hugely successful album ‘Tension’ with a sequel record but admitted she didn’t think she would have been able to create enough songs for a follow-up.
She told The Sun newspaper: “The doors that ‘Padam Padam’ and ‘Tension’ opened were different to before.
“Tension was pretty out there and Padam had a hypnotic quality. Both were bold and paved the way for this new record.
“I didn’t have a specific sound. With this, I did a lot of sessions in LA with new people.
“The mission actually wasn’t to do an album but to find an extra few songs for a repack but then we did more and more.
“It’s not the new album, it’s the sequel.
“I am really pleased people are on board with that and they understand. This ‘Tension II’, it’s more of the same world.”
Kylie also insisted that she is not a diva but admitted she does expect high quality work from her team.
She said: “I don’t have many diva requests but can be kind of demanding in that I want people to turn up and do their job.
“I want them to have fun — when I’m running a tour or whatever, I like to be a nice and kind boss — but there are times when the eyebrow might go . . . it’s a look, and no one wants the look.
“At the same time, though, I get it — people get distracted or they get a bit bored or they are tired. I do factor all of that in but, you know, you need to turn up when it’s time to turn up.
“It’s not an ‘I want puppies in the dressing room’ request.
“I am kind of pretty basic on that front. I can make do — but just have a work ethic.”

Maggie Rogers honours Liam Payne with tender cover of One Direction’s Night Changes

OHMYGOSSIP — Maggie Rogers performed a moving rendition of One Direction’s ‘Night Changes’ in honour of the late Liam Payne.
The 30-year-old singer was playing Boston’s TD Garden arena on Thursday night (17.10.24), one day after the 31-year-old singer tragically fell to his death from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
An emotional Maggie told the crowd: “This week, in particular, I’ve been thinking how precious life is and how quickly things can change.
“We’re just about the same age.
“I wanted to just honour anyone who has been touched by [One Direction’s] music.”
Sitting at her piano, she tenderly sang: “We’re only getting older, baby/And I’ve been thinking about it lately/Does it ever drive you crazy/Just how fast the night changes?”
There was not a dry eye in the room as the audience joined in, singing: “Everything that you’ve ever dreamed of/Disappearing when you wake up/But there’s nothing to be afraid of/Even when the night changes./It will never change me and you.”
Tributes continue to flood in for Liam, with his One Direction bandmates – Harry Styles, 30, Niall Horan, 31, Louis Tomlinson, 32, and former member Zayn Malik, 31 – all having paid their respects on social media.
In a joint statement, the ‘History’ group admitted they were “completely devastated”.
They said: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say.
“But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.
“The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us.
“We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam. – Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry. (sic)”
One Direction have been on an indefinite hiatus since 2016, and Louis hailed Liam as the “most vital part” of the chart-topping band.
He said in his own statement on Instagram: “Liam was an incredible song writer with a great sense of melody, we often spoke of getting back in the studio together to try and recreate the writing chemistry we had built up in the band.
“And for the record, Liam was in my opinion the most vital part of One Direction. His experience from a young age, his perfect pitch, his stage presence, his gift for writing. The list goes on. Thank you for shaping us Liam. (sic)”
