Julian Casablancas praises Charli XCX for remaining ‘humble’ amid Brat’s ‘huge social moment’

OHMYGOSSIP — Julian Casablancas has praised Charli XCX for remaining “humble” and handling the “huge social moment” that spawned from her album ‘Brat’.
The Strokes frontman, 46, is thrilled that the 32-year-old pop star is finally get the level of “fame” and recognition she deserves and jumped at the chance to feature on the remix of the track ‘Mean Girls’ from her chart-topping LP.
Appearing on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, he said of his feature on the ‘Brat and It’s Completely Different but Also Still Brat’ remix album: “That was very serendipitous. I actually can’t believe how fast it happened, I feel like it was a few weeks ago that she asked me, and I was in LA. I sang, I spent a day doing stuff.”
He added: “I feel like fame has never hit someone at a better time, ’cause she’s been around a long time.
“She’s aware of the moment, this huge social moment, but also not taking herself too seriously, she handles it well, but also is humble… that’s why I wanted to do it. She was so cool.”
The ‘360’ hitmaker wanted to get Julian on board for the club track as people often aren’t aware The Strokes are really a “dance band”.
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she said: “It was fun on the remix album to bring all of these people in, some of whom aren’t particularly connected to the club world when you would think about it on the surface, but actually, Julian Casablancas, for example.
“When I think about Julian, it’s like, ‘Okay, has this sort of history with Daft Punk and also…
Zane interjected: “And The Strokes are a dance [band].”
Charli continued: “Yeah, exactly.
You talk about New York downtown, people were partying then and really in a hardcore way, and so I think he of all people understands how to capture that kind of an energy in a room and on the songs. It was definitely crazy pulling that all together.”

Kool and the Gang’s George Brown spent 20 years working on solo album

OHMYGOSSIP — George Brown had been working on his solo album for 20 years before he died.
The Kool and the Gang co-founder – who died in November 2023 aged 74 after battling lung cancer – showcases his talents as a singer, guitarist and keyboardist, as well as the drumming he is known for, on his posthumous record ‘Where I’m Coming From’, and his widow Hanh Brown explained the record is her late husband’s “message to the world” and it means a lot to her and their five children.
She said in a statement: “George had this album going on for the last 20 years of his life.
“It stems from encouragement of the people that mean so much to him, who encouraged him to work on his own solo, because he was a very gifted artist, not just with the band or being the superstar that he is, he had so much inside of him that he wanted to get out.
“You never know what the future holds and this is something he wanted to do on his own.
“It’s George’s creativity side, and it means a lot because in my heart I believe this particular album is dedicated to the people that he loves in his own way, thanking them for what influence they have had and the things they done for him in his life.
“It stems back as far as his grandmother up to his current life until he passed. And it’s also his message, to let the world know how he feels about all the things that’s going on in the world.
“It deeply affected him, all the turmoil that’s going on in the world and everything else. So it truly means a lot to him and all of us.”
George’s family hope the 16-track record will help fans learn more about the musician through the deeply personal record.
His son Jorge Brown wrote in a foreword for the album: “Dad always said, ‘Good songs tell a story.’ Heartache, pain, loss, joy, excitement, happiness—Dad experienced it all, which meant he had stories, many stories, to tell.
“We hope that, as you listen, you’ll understand that our Dad was more than just a musician or celebrity. He was a husband, father, son, brother, father-in-law, friend, student, and mentor. His perspectives on the world were hard-won and well-earned, and he believed in fixing what’s been broken for so long.”
‘Where I’m Coming From’ is out now.

The Beatles recording console used for Abbey Road is going on sale

OHMYGOSSIP — The Beatles’ console used to record ‘Abbey Road’ has been restored and is going on sale.
The unique “one-off” EMI TG12345 recording console was used by the ‘Here Comes The Sun’ legends on their iconic final 1969 album, and the item will be going on sale via the official Reverb shop of London’s recording studio experts, MJQ Ltd, on October 29.
Beatles collaborator and former EMI engineer Brian Gibson has spent five years helping with the restoration, with the technicians able to reassemble the console using 70 percent of its original parts.
The remainder were “faithfully reproduced” to “seamlessly work alongside their older counterparts”.
Speaking to Reveb, Dave Harries – who was part of manyn Beatles recording sessions with the piece of kit in the 1960s – said: “‘Abbey Road’ is one of the best albums that’s ever been made, and it sounds so good because of this recording console.
“Because of the way that ‘Abbey Road’ was recorded, the album has a distinctive sound that hallmarked the future of pop recording.”
Harries described the console as “unique” and irreplaceable, while still standing up “against any modern console”.
He added: “This particular console is a one-off. It’s unique. You can’t replace it.
“It sounds so good that it holds up against any modern console and, in many respects, it’s probably better.
“Because in those days, it was built to a different standard — cost, no object. EMI built this to be the best in the world.”
All four of the Fab Four – Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, George Harrison and John Lennon – used the console for various solo projects.
The ‘Hey Jude’ band recently saw off competition from Queen and The Rolling Stones to be named the ultimate British band a BBC Radio 2 poll organised to mark National Album Day – which has the theme of Great British groups this year – on October 19.

Bastille’s Dan Smith enlists mum to sing on new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Bastille’s Dan Smith has enlisted his mum to sing on the group’s new album.
The 38-year-old frontman asked his mother to contribute to the band’s new tune ‘Telegraph Road’, which was inspired by a poem his father wrote about the plight of homelessness.
He told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “It was really, really nice.
“It’s a lovely thing to have on the record.”
Dan’s mum recorded backing vocals for the song on her birthday this year, and it will appear on their upcoming album ‘[Ampersand sign]’.
The star’s mother is no stranger to singing, as she toured as a folk singer to raise funds for her time at university.
Dan’s collaboration with his mum comes after it was reported last year that he had been teaming up with Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall to pen songs, after they attended a writers retreat together.
A source told the publication: “Jade and Dan have met each other a few times over the years when they’ve been at the same events.
“But they weren’t really mates until they ended up on this retreat together with a load of other songwriters and they teamed up to come up with ideas.
“They hit it off and produced some strong tracks. Some of them have already been offered to other artists, so it’s only a matter of time before they get snapped up.”
Jade went on to release her debut solo single, ‘Angel of My Dreams’, in July, and it peaked at number seven in the UK Singles Chart.
Last year, Bastille signed a fresh record deal with EMI and said they had “multiple projects” in the pipeline.

Explaining how the band decided to return with Emily as singer, founding member Mike Shinoda said in a statement: “The more we worked with Emily and Colin, the more we enjoyed their world-class talents, their company, and the things we created. ‘There’s LEVELS to this game…’ Liam Gallagher tells fans why Oasis chose Richard Ashcroft as special guest for reunion tour

OHMYGOSSIP — Liam Gallagher says Oasis have chosen Richard Ashcroft as the first support act on their reunion tour because the former Verve frontman has “got more talent in his left nostril than all your so called new bands put together”.
This week, the ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ singer was confirmed as the first special guest for the 19 UK and Irish dates of the ‘Oasis Live ’25’ tour.
Since Ashcroft was announced, fans have messaged Liam on X to say that Oasis should give new indie bands an opportunity to play at the sold-out shows, but the ‘Supersonic’ rocker dismissed the suggestions, insisting there are no new groups who can match the talent of Ashcroft.
Liam posted: “To all the folk who are crying about us not showing love to the young bands and not letting them support there’s LEVELS to this game and I’m afraid 99 [per cent] of ya are way off.”
Responding to a follower who stated that “Oasis could really have made a difference by promoting newer/contemporary band”, Liam posted: “Richard’s got more talent in his left nostril than all your so called new bands put together now stop being an entitled little bumbaseed and show some f****** respect.”
When one fan pointed out that Liam let his son Gene Gallagher’s band Villanelle open at his solo concerts suggesting his analysis “applies to ur son’s s*** band but they still opened for u didn’t they”, the 52-year-old music legend replied: “It doesn’t actually there the 1 p cent that are mega.”
Ashcroft is a long-time friend of Liam and his brother Noel Gallagher, 57, with his former band The Verve often touring with Oasis in the ’90s and he is thrilled to have been invited to support them on tour.
The 53-year-old musician said in a statement: “As a fan from day one, I was buzzing for many reasons when the news of Oasis’ return was announced.
“I can say with no exaggeration that the song writing talent of Noel and Liam’s pure spirit as a lead singer helped to inspire me to create some of my best work.
“It was the perfection of ‘Live Forever’ that forced me to try and write my own. They dared to be great, made the dreams we had real and I will always remember those days with joy.
“Now it’s time to create more memories and I’m ready to bring it. See you next summer. Music is power.”
Richard and Liam have become close in the years since Noel quit Oasis in 2009, with Ashcroft supporting the ‘Wonderwall’ hitmaker at his Finsbury Park outdoor concert in June 2018.
Ashcroft also invited Liam to duet with him on the track ‘C’mon People (We’re Making It Now)’ which features on his 2021 album ‘Acoustic Hymns Vol 1’.
The rest of the support line-up for ‘Oasis Live ’25’ is yet to be revealed.
For Oasis’ North American dates they will joined by Cage the Elephant.

Selena Gomez isn’t actively working on new music

OHMYGOSSIP — Selena Gomez isn’t “currently” working on new music.
The ‘Only Murders in the Building’ star dropped the single ‘Love On’ in February after dropping the track ‘Single Soon’ last summer and had said she plans to release a full album at some stage.
However, she has revealed she’s not actively writing anything.
She told Variety: “I currently don’t have anything, but I will say music is going to always be a part of me. So I don’t think any movements are happening right now, but it will always be in my life.”
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine earlier this year, Selena – who released the LP ‘Rare’ in 2020 – admitted while she hoped the new collection would be released this year, she wasn’t entirely sure.
However, she did reflect on her recent singles, and insisted despite fan speculation that they could feature prominently on her next LP, they also stand alone.
She explained: “I guess it’s safe to say that ‘Single Soon’ and ‘Love On’ might not be really reflective of the project that I’m working on.
“They are in spirit, but I’m excited to explore more styles of music, and I think people will hopefully be surprised by the contrast.
“I like releasing songs that I love and I care about. I just released them into the world and later comes the full album.”
She noted that while “both of them stand alone in their messaging”, she still stands by “each of them, for sure”.
For ‘Love On’ – which she completed during an inspiring stint living in Paris for two months – she reunited with songwriter and frequent collaborator Julia Michaels, who she has been working with since 2015 album ‘Revival’.
She said: “I don’t think there’s a world where I would ever start to crack an album code without Julia.
“She and I have this soul connection where we are experiencing things in our lives at the same time sometimes.
“She’s really able to know my voice, and then we try to make songs that have a fun, unique twist to it.”
Selena had suggested that her next album would be her last, but she later clarified her stance, explaining “It’s not that it’s ‘no, never’ [to music], it’s more that I would like to explore that world [of film and TV] a bit more and have the time to actually do that.”

Shakira promises ‘most ambitious’ tour yet

OHMYGOSSIP — Shakira has teased her upcoming tour is her “most ambitious” yet.
The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ hitmaker is preparing to take her live show around the world and she’s explained the shows will be her “biggest” yet – because she “deserves” to undertake the “tour of [her] life” after working for so long.
Appearing on the cover of GQ magazine internationally, Shakira told the publication: “It is the most ambitious tour of my entire career, the biggest production I have had so far.
“Not because the public asks for it, but because I deserve it after so many years working in this world. I deserve the tour of my life. I am throwing the house out the window.
“I am happy because I will be able to go through the different stages of my artistic life, up to today. It will be the longest show I have done with the biggest screen and everything as big as you can imagine. More is more and better!”
The 47-year-old singer released her latest album, ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’, earlier this year and writing the record helped her to process the “grief” that came with the end of her long-term relationship with Gerard Pique, the father of her sons Milan, 11, and nine-year-old Sasha, in 2022.
She said: “It wasn’t easy to recognize all the vulnerability I was feeling at the time I wrote this album, and then to lay it bare.
“For many months after my separation I had been silent, trying to begin my mourning, but I couldn’t really begin to grieve until I started writing music. It was my way of healing. And it continues to be.
“Grief is a process that is not linear. It is full of peaks and valleys.”
Shakira believes she has “multiple personalities” that make up who she is as a whole.
She explained: “The Shakira of Pies Descalzos is a girl that I know lives in me. A girl who went out with a guitar and leather pants looking to be heard. That girl is still there. I turn to her in many moments and she saves me, she gives me strength when I need it.
“But there is also the Wolf, who is the archetype of the wild woman, of a woman who finds a new freedom, who no one can gag, tie up. That wild wolf, that primal woman that I gradually discovered in myself and that gave me a lot of strength, a lot of power…
“The two coexist in me, and many more. They are multiple personalities, but they are real. They are not masks. They are not characters. They are genuine and they are part of me.”

Chappell Roan reinvents herself on ‘fun’ new album

OHMYGOSSIP — Chappell Roan’s new album is a “new version” of the pop star.
The ‘Casual’ hitmaker’s producer, Dan Nigro, has teased that they have finished five tracks on the follow-up to hit debut album, ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’, including one featuring the fiddle.
He told The New York Times: “I’ll say that much. It’s a new version of Chappell.”
Fans can also expect a “fun, up-tempo country song,” a “couple of ballads” and a “mid-tempo rock song.”
Despite the 26-year-old viral sensation being vocal about the pressures of fame and the “predatory” behaviour of some fans, Dan insists that won’t be reflected on the new record, which is expected to feature the unreleased live-favourite ‘The Subway’.
He said: “We’re still writing from a really fun place.
“We’ll see what happens.”
The ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ singer praised the studio wizard – who has also worked with Olivia Rodrigo – for always believing in her and instilling her with the confidence to write and perform in a way that makes her “feel good”.
She told the publication: “Dan always believed in me.
“He has been there from the beginning and brought me into realising what makes me feel good to perform, what makes me feel good to sing, to write about. Because he believed in bringing that part of myself to life, I started to believe in it, too.”
Chappell – who has cancelled concerts amid her struggles with fame and was diagnosed with severe depression – released a statement about needing to “set boundaries” after some fans overstepped the line and insisted that just because she chose the career she has, that doesn’t mean she should be subjected to “harassment”.
She wrote on Instagram: “For the past 10 years I’ve been going non-stop to build my project and it’s come to the point that I need to draw lines and set boundaries. I want to be an artist for a very very long time. I’ve been in too many nonconsensual physical and social interactions and I just need to lay it out and remind you, women don’t owe you s***. I chose this career path because because I love music and art and honoring my inner child, I do not accept harassment of any kind because I chose this path, nor do I deserve it.
“When I’m on stage, when I’m performing, when I’m in drag, when I’m at a work event, when I’m doing press…I am at work. Any other circumstances, I am not in work mode. I am clocked out. I don’t agree with the notion that I owe a mutual exchange of energy, time, or attention to people I do not know, do not trust, or who creep me out – just because they’re expressing admiration. Women do not owe you a reason why they don’t want to be touched or talked to. (sic)”

Bruce Springsteen hasn’t had a desire to write music for two years

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruce Springsteen hasn’t written new music in “two years”.
The Boss admits that he can go for long periods without getting a desire to put pen to paper to write lyrics and hasn’t penned anything since 2022.
Speaking at the Los Angeles premiere of his new documentary, ‘Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’, this week, he is quoted by Entertainment Weekly as saying: “Songs don’t come that often.
“I’ve gone two years without writing anything.”
By contrast, his latest LP, 2020’s ‘Letter to You’, was swiftly penned in just two weeks and recorded in a matter of days.
The album was written following the loss of his life-long friend and bandmate George Theiss, who died in 2018 following a battle with cancer at the age of 68.
He said: “I came back from George’s, and he filled me with something.
“I think all of Letter to You was written in about two weeks and recorded in four days.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ hitmaker has vowed to keep performing “until the wheels fall off”.
In a trailer for the film, he says: “Since I was 16, playing live has been a deep and lasting part of who I am and how I justify my existence here on Earth.”
Bruce subsequently reflected on performing alongside the same line-up for the last 40 years.
The award-winning musician also insisted that he doesn’t have any plans to retire from the music business.
He said: “I plan on continuing until the wheels fall off, and for as long as the audience will follow me. That’s my job.”
In August, Bruce promised his fans that he won’t be slowing down in the coming years.
The chart-topping star – who has battled some health issues in recent times – suggested that he still loves performing live as much as he ever has.
He told fans during a show in Philadelphia: “We’ve been around 50 f****** years, and we ain’t quitting! We ain’t doing no farewell tour bull****! Jesus Christ! No farewell tour for the E Street Band!”
Bruce also admitted that he still relished the experience of performing live in front of his adoring fans.
The ‘Dancing in the Dark’ hitmaker – who is known for his energetic live performances, which can last for more than four hours – said: “Farewell to what? Thousands of people screaming your name. That’s all it takes. I ain’t going anywhere.”

The 25-year-old pop star gushed about the 20-year-old actress: “I am really distracted right now because I see this gorgeous girl.”
Calling over her backing dancers, she said: “Girls, can you come out because I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up. This girl is so hot.”
She then asks: “Who are you? What is your name?”
Millie then appeared on the screen with the sound of police sirens and screams filling the arena.
She quipped: “Millie, I’ve never fallen in love at a concert before, but Stranger Things have happened!”
Sabrina said: “It’s so unfortunate that we have to arrest you, because you are so beautiful. That sucks.”
The singer pretended she didn’t know who Millie was at first calling her “Miley”.
In the viral clip on TikTok, Millie then could be heard mouthing: “Please arrest me.”
Sabrina reacted: “She said please arrest me?”
She went on: “No, now I don’t know what to do and now I just feel like my clothes are embarrassed.”
Sabrina playfully said: “Oh my God, not my skirt falling off in front of so many people.”
The ‘Please, Please, Please’ hitmaker then handed some pink handcuffs to Millie and said: “These are for you, my doll.”

Richard Ashcroft announced as special guest for Oasis Live ’25

OHMYGOSSIP — Richard Ashcroft has been announced as a special guest performer on the ‘Oasis Live ’25’ tour.
The ‘Lucky Man’ singer will join reunited brothers Noel Gallagher, 57, and Liam Gallagher, 52, for their 19 sold-out mammoth UK and Ireland shows.
Richard is a long-time friend of the Gallaghers with his former band The Verve often touring with Oasis in the ’90s and he is thrilled to have been invited to support them on tour.
The 53-year-old musician said: “As a fan from day one, I was buzzing for many reasons when the news of Oasis’ return was announced.
The ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ singer will take to the stages of the Cardiff Principality Stadium on July 4 and 5, as well as Manchester Heaton Park on July 11, 12, 16, 19 and 20.
London Wembley Stadium will welcome the trio on July 25, 26 and 30, August 2 and 3, before returning on September 27 and 28.
They will be at the Edinburgh Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium on August 8, 9 and 12, and at Dublin’s Croke Park on August 16 and 17.
The rest of the support line-up is yet to be revealed.
The fitting choice comes as the three musicians have a long connection and strong mutual respect between them both.
One of Oasis’ first national tours was as support to The Verve in 1993, often playing to just a few hundred people several months before the debut single ‘Supersonic’ was released.
After a failed Amsterdam reunion in 1994 after a drunken incident on a ferry, which forced most of the band being sent back to the UK – except for Noel, who played solo instead – they were back together the following year supporting Richard’s band at The Bataclan in Paris.
Noel and Liam will also be heading to the USA, Canada, Mexico and Australia.

Kendrick Lamar: Music isn’t my end goal

OHMYGOSSIP — Kendrick Lamar says music isn’t his “end goal”, and his work in the industry is “just the start”.
The 37-year-old rapper and songwriter hopes to “communicate” more in the future, and he is grateful that music has been a “vessel” to help put him on the right path towards his life goals.
When asked by SZA what his future plans are, he told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “I get fulfilled sharing my experiences with the youth and allowing them to hear these stories and hear these experiences and catch up to them.
“So to actually answer your question, it’s communication just with people in general.
“And I feel my work in music is just the start. I don’t think it’s my end goal.
“I know it’s not my end goal. Music is just a vessel to get me there.”
While Kendrick isn’t sure exactly what his end goal is just yet, he plans to absorb all the information he possibly can, because he is a “nerd for it”, to try to find out what his calling could be.
Asked about his future, he added: “I’m curious, and that’s what keeps me energised … information. I want it all.
“I want the resources. I wanna meet people smarter than me. I wanna talk to them.
“I want them to show me things. I just wanna be fulfilled with whatever this world has to offer.
“That hypes me up. Information. I’m a nerd for it.”
Kendrick has won multiple awards during his music career so far, and he intends to “remind the world why” rap music is so “impactful” when he headlines the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show.
He recently said in a statement: “Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I’ll be there to remind the world why.
“They got the right one.”
