Martha Stewart documentary maker R J Cutler not surprised she hit out at his film on her life

OHMYGOSSIP — Martha Stewart documentary maker R J Cutler doesn’t find it “surprising” she hit out at the film.
The US lifestyle guru, 83, spoke out to say she “hates” parts of the filmmaker’s ‘Martha’, which premiered in October – and the 62-year-old has now broken his silence on her criticism.
He said on ‘The Town with Matthew Belloni’ podcast: “It wasn’t surprising to me that she would’ve made a different film that I made, of course.
“She gave me her feedback, and she was upset that I didn’t make the changes that she wanted to make. But this is the process.”
R J added on the podcast he got messages from Martha expressing her dissatisfaction, adding: “I will tell you that Martha expressed herself fully to me in her text messages.”
He stressed it took a “tremendous amount of courage on her part to trust” him with her story, adding: “It’s very, very hard to be a subject in one of these films and to look at it with any sort of objectivity.
“And so, this is a process I understand, and you have to be empathetic to the subject. But that doesn’t mean that she’s in control of the movie.
“If she has ideas that I think are good ideas and will help the film that I’m making, I’ll take a good idea from anybody. Believe me.
“We engaged in that process. And Martha would have liked me to have a different response to that process, but I didn’t have a different response.
“I have to say, the subjectivity of being Martha Stewart in this situation, the vulnerability that you’re in, has to be responded to with empathy and support. “That doesn’t mean it has to be responded to with changes to the film. And that’s what I did. Martha felt the whole thing should be scored differently, the score is extraordinary.”
Martha told the New York Times: “R J had total access, and he really used very little. It was just shocking.
“Those last scenes with me looking like a lonely old lady walking hunched over in the garden? Boy, I told him to get rid of those.
“And he refused. I hate those last scenes. Hate them.”
She also slammed R J’s choice to feature classical music in the movie, explaining that she wanted to feature more rap music – and was also upset about how the film covered her 2004 prison stint.

Casey Affleck thinks long-time friends are ‘bread’ of life

OHMYGOSSIP — Casey Affleck thinks his long-time friends are “the bread” of life.
The Oscar-winner, 49, has had pals for years including fellow A-lister Matt Damon, 54, and has now opened up about how important he feels about friendships that sustain him, especially as he grows older.
He made the remarks at the Center at West Park’s 2nd Annual Fall Benefit in New York City on Thursday (14.11.24) where he was asked about the significance of his friendship with Matt, who was an honorary chair at the evening’s event.
Casey told People: “Someone said old friends are the bread of life’s leaven. The older I get, the more that means to me.
“People you’ve known for a long time become more and more important the older you get, and they are for me for sure.”
Casey and Matt have been friends for more than 40 years, with the pair starring together with Casey’s brother Ben Affleck in 1997’s ‘Good Will Hunting’ – and more recently in this year’s ‘The Instigators’.
Matt told People about Casey at the New York benefit: “We have this 43-year shared history. We grew up together.
“(We) shared experience and relationship and trust and love.
“There’s an underlying understanding of who we are. In our business, there’s a whole language that gets created around trying to protect people’s feelings because people’s egos are involved.
“(We) don’t waste any time on diplomacy, which I love.”
Casey added about his love of making movies at the event: “Art was something that I just loved early on, and I think it does a lot for society.
“Arts – they entertain us and they keep culture going, and the arts are the mirror that we look into when we want to understand who we are and what we’re doing.”

Ted Danson thought Woody Harrelson was a wildman first time they met on ‘Cheers’ set

OHMYGOSSIP — Ted Danson says Woody Harrelson got in a bar fight and was carjacked the first time they met on the set of ‘Cheers’.
The actor, 76, starred as baseball star-turned bar owner Sam Malone on the NBC sitcom alongside Woody, 73, as dim-witted bartender Woody Boyd when he joined the show from its fourth series, and Ted has now opened up about how his co-star left him stunned on their initial meeting.
He said on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ about Woody: “He is a whimsical creature. He’s astounding.
“He’s such a bundle of contradictions. I think the first day we met him on Cheers – we’d been together filming for three years – and he came and joined us.
“(He’d been in a) bar fight (and was) carjacked (the same day and I thought), ‘Oh dear God, that’s who that is’.”
But Ted’s fear he was acting alongside a wildman were upended when Woody asked him to read a poem he’d written.
He said: “(Woody asked), ‘Could you look at this poem I wrote?’ It’s like the most beautiful poem you’ve ever read.
“And he’s like, ‘Would you come see the play I wrote?’… and it’s a brilliant f****** play.
“You cannot pigeonhole that guy.”
Ted added: “One of my favorite Cheers stories is, waiting for (Woody), and he got to be about 30 minutes late for rehearsal.
“And we were going, ‘Well, what the hell?’ And someone came running in and said, ‘Woody called. He’s in Berlin. The wall is coming down and he didn’t wanna miss it’.
“That’s the whimsical side of Woody but also the magnificent side. He just bites off these big chunks of life. He’s just astounding.”
Ted previously said on the ‘Where Everybody Knows Your Name’ podcast about ‘Cheers’ they and their former co-star George Wendt played “hooky” from the set and experimented with hallucinogenics.

Jake Paul beats Mike Tyson in long-awaited bout

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Paul beat Mike Tyson in their long-anticipated boxing match on Friday (15.11.24).
The 27-year-old YouTube star had a resounding victory over the 58-year-old former world heavyweight champion, winning with a unanimous decision after eight rounds.
The pair were originally due to face off in July, but it was postponed after Tyson was rushed to hospital with an ulcer flare-up.
Their bout – which was livestreamed on Netflix – finally went ahead at the AT+T Stadium, in Arlington, Texas, with Paul’s youth too much for Tyson.
Tyson – who was returning to the ring after a 19-year absence – had been confident ahead of the match, telling ESPN: “I’m bringing the devil himself [to the ring]. There are no feelings attached. My own mother should be very careful if she has to get in the ring with me. When it’s over, it’s over. But while the process is going on, my intention is to hurt him. I hope he has the same intentions, or he is in trouble.”
Despite calling Paul a “friend”, Tyson slapped his opponent in a tense final face-off before their bout after he “stepped on [his] toes”.
The self-proclaimed ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ and ‘The Problem Child’ locked eyes before Tyson gave Paul an early hit when he smacked him across the face at the weigh-in at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory, in Irving, Texas.
After security jumped in, Jake hit back at his “cute slap” by warning Mike he is “getting knocked the f*** out” in their boxing match.
Following the heated exchange, Tyson revealed he slapped his opponent because he stepped on his feet and he had no shoes on.
Speaking to The New York Post newspaper, he said: “I was in my socks and he had on shoes. He stepped on my toe… I wanted to think it happened by accident.
“But now I think it may have happened on purpose. I was in a lot of pain. I had to reciprocate.”

John David Washington had ‘midlife crisis’ at 30

OHMYGOSSIP — John David Washington had a “midlife crisis” when he turned 30.
The ‘Piano Lesson’ actor celebrated his 40th birthday earlier this year and he admitted he found entering a new decade around much more “smooth” than he did 10 years ago.
He told Radio Times magazine: “When I was 30, I had a midlife crisis. I was panicked!
“This one, when I hit 40, I was actually in the UK supporting my sister Olivia doing ‘Slave Play’. I felt an ease of comfort.
“I felt good about who I am, and I understood where I needed to go to continue to evolve as a person.
“So it wasn’t a crash landing like 30 was. This was more of a smooth take-off.”
The COVID-19 pandemic saw the movie industry grind to a halt for several months and John admitted he feared he would never work again at one point.
Asked about the release of his movie ‘Tenet’ during 2020, he said: “It was kind of crazy that we put it out during those times.
“There was a lot of weird stuff going on in general.
“I was just desperate to work, as I didn’t think I was ever going to work again.
“I didn’t know what the world was going to look like. I’ll never forget it. I’ll always remember exactly where I was in 2020.”
John is the son of acting legend Denzel Washington and his singer wife Pauletta, but the ‘Amsterdam’ actor never felt pressure to live up to their achievements as they always encouraged him to be himself.
He said: “My parents have always been supporting.
“My mom was a piano teacher at nine years old My father attended Fordham University to study acting. They had this relentless pursuit of excellence in their artistry, so that’s all I knew.
“And they have both had a great influence on the kind of artist I’m trying to be.
“My parents are a huge influence in my life, so they’ve encouraged me to be my own man.
“And I did that by playing American football professionally.
“I earned a scholarship, I was a practice squad player for the St. Louis Rams.
“My pursuit was to be my own person and I was encouraged by those who I was raised by.”

Dolly Parton can’t understand why wealthy don’t help others

OHMYGOSSIP — Dolly Parton “doesn’t understand” why not all celebrities use their wealth to help others.
The ‘9 to 5’ hitmaker is worth an estimated $505 million and over the years has donated millions of dollars to support victims of natural disasters and other good causes, including a $1 million investment into COVID-19 research, and she believes it would be “selfish” of her not to give back.
She told Britain’s HELLO! Magazine:” It’s my opinion that if you’ve been blessed and you’re in a position to help and you see that there’s a need, you should do it.
“Otherwise you just feel selfish, you just take and take and take, and it’s all about me.
“It makes me feel good to be able to give back and to share and to be able to do stuff.
“When you get up to a certain place as a celebrity, and get in a certain wealth bracket, there’s so much you can do.
“I don’t understand why so many people who make so much money don’t spread that wealth around.
“I’ve been blessed enough to be in a position to help.”
The 78-year-old singer called for people to be “better to one another” and spread kindness in a bid to make the world a nicer place.
She said: “I just think that people need to be better to each other.
“I cannot get it into my head and through my heart why people can’t be nicer and better to one another.
“We’re supposed to love one another and love our neighbour as ourselves, but that seems to be such a hard thing to do.
“Yet it doesn’t take that much time to be kind.
“If you’re kind to people, they usually feel bad about not being kind to somebody else.
“That’s how you spread anything, whether it’s for good or bad. So why not spread kindness?
“People are spreading way too much of the other stuff these days.”

Lulu isn’t worried about ageing

OHMYGOSSIP — Lulu doesn’t think her age matters.
The ‘Shout’ hitmaker has just turned 76 but she insisted “attitude” and “spirit” are more important in a person than how many birthdays they have put behind them.
She told My Weekly magazine: “I do think people are obsessed by age. They’re numbers, that’s all.
“What matters is your spirit. You’ve got to live, love and laugh. It’s all about your attitude.
“I’ve always believed that if you think young and stay curious, you’ll always be youthful no matter what age you are.
“It’s about how you feel inside and I feel very energised and youthful.
“I don’t fee any different inside from when I was 30.”
Lulu wants to “look good” for her age, but doesn’t want to look too young as she’s just content to be the “best version” of herself she can be.
She said: “I want to look good for my age but I don’t want to look like a 20 year old.
“I want to be the best version of myself at whatever age I am.
“I’ve learned the importance of looking after my skin, eating well and exercising.
“You can’t rely on good looks forever, but you can take care of yourself to feel good.
“As you get older, you realise it’s not all about how you look – it’s about how you feel.
“When you feel good, it shows o the outside.
“Of course, good health is everything.
“If you don’t have your health, nothing else matters. You’ve got to take care of yourself. That’s what I try to do.”

David Lynch ‘can hardly walk across a room’ due to emphysema

OHMYGOSSIP — David Lynch says he can “can hardly walk across a room” due to his battle with emphysema.
The ‘Twin Peaks’ director contracted the chronic lung condition – which causes shortness of breath and is a type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD – after years of smoking and admitted that he now needs supplemental oxygen most of the time.
David, 78, told PEOPLE: “What you sow is what you reap. In the back of every smoker’s mind is the fact that it’s healthy, so you’re literally playing with fire. It can bite you. I took a chance, and I got bit.”
While David has now quit smoking, he admitted it used to be a huge part of his life and identity.
He said: “A big important part of my life was smoking. I loved the smell of tobacco, the taste of tobacco. I loved lighting cigarettes. It was part of being a painter and a filmmaker for me.
“I saw the writing on the wall. and it said, ‘You’re going to die in a week if you don’t stop’. I could hardly move without gasping for air. Quitting was my only choice.
“I have a positive attitude focused on the body healing itself. It’s tough living with emphysema. I can hardly walk across a room. It’s like you’re walking around with a plastic bag around your head.”
However, despite everything, David doesn’t regret smoking.
He said: “I don’t regret it. It was important to me. I wish what every addict wishes for: that what we love is good for us.
“I really wanted to get this across: Think about it. You can quit these things that are going to end up killing you. I owe it to them – and to myself – to say that.”
