Jon Hamm recalls hearing top entertainment boss said he’d ‘never’ be a TV star

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Hamm has recalled hearing how a top entertainment executive said he would “never” make it as a television star.
The 53-year-old actor is best known for playing macho Don Draper in the advertising business period drama ‘Mad Men’ from 2007 to 2015 – for which he won a raft of awards including a Primetime Emmy and two Golden Globes – but said he heard about the brutal feedback after an audition he did before becoming a household name.
He said during The Hollywood Reporter’s ‘Drama Actor Emmy Roundtable’ when asked to detail the “strangest” comment about his work he’d ever heard: “I had a head of this television network tell my representatives, actually, that Jon Hamm will never be a television star.
“He’s no longer at the head of that network.”
Jon refused to “name names” when it came to the executive or the network, but said he didn’t get wind of the disparaging remark until “much later” in the “history of things”.
He added: “It was one of those things where I had auditioned for this person and this network over and over and over again, as one does, and for whatever reason didn’t get the part, and didn’t get the part, and didn’t get the part.
“It would always come down to the last two – me and the guy who’s going to get it.”
Jon also branded auditioning “the worst” part of his business, adding: “It just stinks, but that’s the only way we’ve got.
“And there’s so many variables that are completely out of your control, so the ability to let it go is an amazing point in one’s career.
“And then, of course, that’s when you don’t ever have to audition again.”
Along with his role in ‘Mad Men’, Jon has been a scene-stealer in TV shows such as ‘Black Mirror’, ‘The Gentleman’ and ‘Fargo’.

Shaun Ryder: Heroin helped my ADHD

OHMYGOSSIP — Shaun Ryder has claimed taking heroin made him feel “normal” while coping with undiagnosed ADHD.
The Happy Mondays frontman was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder – which has symptoms including restlessness and difficulty concentrating – in his 50s and he admitted it made his past behaviour make sense to him.
He told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “As a kid, I’d be constantly fiddling around, itching, twitching, struggling to concentrate, but when I took heroin it made me focused.
“These days for ADHD they give you stimulants – amphetamine and methylphenidate on prescription. I’m not advising anyone to take heroin if you’re ADHD, but all I can tell you is that back then it made me feel normal…
“It’s a spectrum and I’ve got the version that means I can’t remember a thing – until autocues came along I used to stand on stage with the Mondays and start singing the third verse or whatever because I couldn’t keep track in my head.”
The 61-year-old singer has been “clean” for over 20 years but knows fans are still interested in hearing about his days of excess.
He said: “I’ve straightened meself out. Been clean 21 years but the public still wants to hear about the drugs, drugs, drugs, rock ’n’ roll and sex. I’m not sure what it’s like for young lads entering the business now but gone are the days when a chauffeur-driven car with weighing scales in the boot for drugs would be waiting outside the ‘Top of the Pops’ studio for us.”
The ‘Loose Fit’ singer has six children from four marriages and he admitted being a dad, and a husband to spouse Joanne – the mother of his three youngest children – has helped him change for the better.
He said: “I love family life. Kids. Being in the countryside. Writing songs, performing. I used to get really p*****off when people on the street would yell ‘you’re twisting my melon man’ or ‘call the cops’. I never knew how they expected me to respond. Now, I just shout back ‘aright’ and give the thumbs-up.
“I don’t have a young man’s ego, and that’s quite liberating.”

Naomi Campbell confirms she used a surrogate

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomi Campbell has confirmed her children were born to a surrogate.
The 54-year-old supermodel has a three-year-old daughter and a 12-month-old son and though she previously admitted her daughter wasn’t adopted, she has now clarified that she wasn’t pregnant herself as she discussed how much her children mean to her.
She told The Times newspaper: “My babies are everything to me. It’s made me fear for the future.”
Naomi explained she was never looking for a father for her kids as she is happy being “a single mother of a single mum”, prompting a question as to if she had used a surrogate.
She replied: “I did. I hope for a better world for my children. They are 110 per cent my priority. I have to be there for them on their first day at school.”
Naomi is concerned that younger generations are not interested in having children and she insisted parenthood is always “worth it”, no matter how difficult the circumstances.
She said: “I have heard a lot of young girls saying that it is too expensive to have children and they may not want them, and I have said, ‘You will change your mind. You will want to be a mum.’ I understand economically it is tough. But my mum had nothing and she made it work. It’s worth it. It is so amazing.
“We have to depend on the younger generation to change this world. I trust my children more than us to do the right thing.”
In 1999, Naomi entered rehab to deal with her addiction to cocaine and alcohol and she admitted she “loved” her time in treatment because her days were so regimented.
She said: “Drugs, rock’n’roll, it was fun at the time until you realise you cannot let this be who you are and this can’t take over your life. I just felt I didn’t like the way I was becoming and so I decided, ‘I am going to rehab.’ And I loved going to rehab. It was in America.”
Asked if it was like a holiday, she added: “Not at all. Every hour there was something and I love discipline and structure as a dancer. That was my early life, so that is what I tend to gravitate towards. I am better with a timetable, so I loved it. I hate free time and having nothing to do.”

The ‘Creed III’ actor noted “learning” is also a key part in their one-year relationship.
Meagan recently admitted she is the “happiest [she] has been in a long time”.
She told People magazine: “I’m in love, I’m transitioning, I’m healing, I’m growing [and] I’m getting excited about what’s next. Yeah, just a lot of things at once. But what I can say is, I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long time.
“It is like a crazy time in general. I just have peace in my heart and I have joy in my heart, and I love myself and the skin that I’m in and the season that I’m in and the growth that’s happening.”
While Jonathan’s legal issues have brought a lot of scrutiny to the couple, the ‘Harlem’ actress tries to “stay authentic” and ignore the gossip.
She said: “I keep my eyes on God, you know, that’s the focus.
“And I stay true to myself and I stay authentic. I know what I know that I know. And in time, everything else just catches up with what you know, if you’re true to yourself and you’re authentic.
“There’s some things you just gotta be like, ‘I ain’t got time for that. Let me go see what my nephew’s doing. Let me see what my mama’s doing. Let me go see what my man’s doing. Let me go get this job.’ ”
The couple recently moved in together in New York City’s Greenwich Village and Meagan is particularly happy to get to hang out with the ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ actor’s three dogs, Hero, Captain and Bishop.
She said: “They love me. They protect me. They’re so gentle and wonderful and emotional and it blows my mind because I was not a dog person. I like dogs, but I didn’t want one. Now, I have three.”

I am not sure where I begin and Sally Bowles ends and I am okay with that… this show is unlike anything else and what makes it so special is all the people involved. “It teaches you about yourself. And I think, what I didn’t have, at least, is younger people today are so much more who they are and they’re not going to change for anyone whereas I felt like I was always so scared or like I didn’t want to be who I really was.
“There is so much more freedom to be who you want to be, of course there are still struggles and there is still so much to fight against but I get so inspired by people in the queer community.”

Jennifer Aniston amazed Friends is 30

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Aniston finds it “so strange” that ‘Friends’ is 30 years old.
The 55-year-old actress became a household name playing Rachel Green on the sitcom and she is amazed so much time has passed since the programme began because she can still remember the events of the day it premiered “like yesterday”.
Speaking to Quinta Brunson for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, she said: “It’s so strange to even think that it’s 30 years old.
“Because I remember the day that it was going to premiere on television, on NBC: Matthew Perry and I were having lunch somewhere, and we knew Lisa [Kudrow] was getting her hair coloured. So we ran into the hair salon, and I snuck up — she was in the sink — and I took the nozzle from the guy that was supposed to be doing it and just started washing her hair. It definitely flew out of control, and that was unfortunate. But the excitement we had, it feels like yesterday.”
Jennifer – whose co-star Matthew Perry passed away last October – admitted she and her cast mates view the longevity of the show as one of the “greatest gifts” they could have ever had.
She added: “The fact that it’s had this long, wonderful life and it still means a lot to people is one of the greatest gifts I think all five of us — all six of us — we never could imagine.
“And we see each other. I talked on FaceTime with Court last night for an hour, and Lisa and the boys, and we just have a really — it’s a family forever.”
And the cast now appreciate the “luxury” of getting famous at a time without social media so they were “protected” from other people’s opinions.
Jennifer said: “It was in the ’90s and 2000s, and we had a luxury of there not being social media or the internet, so we were so isolated and protected. You weren’t faced with what people are commenting and ripping you apart or whatever.
“It was really an innocent time, where we could roam about the world a lot easier. But again, there weren’t phones. It’s not like hundreds of screens telling you what it is.”
‘Friends’ was largely shot in front of a live audience, but Jennifer revealed co-star Lisa – who played Phoebe Buffay – got frustrated when they laughed.
She said: “Lisa Kudrow, by the way, hated when the audience laughed. She’d be like, ‘I’m not done! It’s not that funny!’ ”

Padma Lakshmi: I feel more confident than ever

OHMYGOSSIP — Padma Lakshmi feels “more confident” than ever.
The 53-year-old star is happier today than she was at the height of her modelling career – despite “not being as thin” as she once was.
Padma – who has just launched her own lingerie collection – told the New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column: “I’m more confident now, physically and otherwise. And I would never go back to my 20s, even if it meant I had a body that was more fit and skinny and tight and and high in all the right places. You know, I look OK now!”
Padma wishes women felt more comfortable about having open conversations about their bodies.
She explained: “Nobody tells you this stuff. And I think we should talk about it. I mean, everybody goes through it.”
In May, meanwhile, Padma revealed that she feels “so much sexier” than she did 30 years ago.
The TV star weighs about 35 pounds more than she did at age 23 – but she still feels very proud of her body.
Padma told Us Weekly: “I love it. I wouldn’t go back to that body.”
The model also insisted that she’s happy to reveal her age to strangers.
Padma – who appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2023 – said: “I love saying I’m 53. And people are like, ‘Oh, you don’t look like you’re 53.’ And I’m like, ‘No. This is also what 53 looks like.’”
What’s more, the ‘Taste the Nation’ star has rubbished the idea that beauty can only look one way.
She explained: “Our culture really has a way of telling women that there’s this narrow window and this narrow size or narrow appearance that you have to look to feel attractive, and that is complete bull****.”

Celine Dion ‘feels like she’s being strangled’ amid health battle

OHMYGOSSIP — Celine Dion feels like she’s being strangled because of Stiff-Person Syndrome syndrome.
The 56-year-old singer announced that she’d been diagnosed with the rare neurological disease in 2022, and Celine has now revealed how it’s impacted her health.
In a preview from an upcoming interview with NBC News, Celine shared: “It’s like somebody is strangling you. It’s like somebody is pushing your larynx/pharynx. It was like talking like that, and you cannot go high or lower.”
Celine initially tried to cope with the symptoms, before accepting that her life was destined to change.
She said: “It gets into a spasm. It started [in the throat]. [And I thought], ‘No, okay, it’s gonna be fine.’ But it can also be the abdominal, can be in the spine, can be in the ribs.”
Celine often suffers from cramps and she’s even broken some ribs amid her health troubles.
The singer shared: “It feels like, if I point my feet, they will stay in [that position]. Or, if I cook – because I love to cook – my fingers, my hands, will get in position … It’s cramping but it’s like in a position where you cannot unlock them.
“I have broken ribs at one point because sometimes when its very severe, it can break.”
Celine previously revealed that she hopes to “raise awareness” of stiff-person syndrome through a new feature-length documentary.
The award-winning star has opened up about her struggles in ‘I Am: Celine Dion’, which premieres later this month.
She said: “This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me.
“As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realised how much I have missed it, of being able to see my fans.
“During this absence, I decided I wanted to document this part of my life, to try to raise awareness of this little-known condition, to help others who share this diagnosis.”

Liza Minnelli is allegedly too unwell to travel from Beverly Hills to New York

OHMYGOSSIP — Liza Minnelli is reportedly too poorly to travel from Beverly Hills to New York for the Tribeca Film Festival screening of her new documentary about her life and career.
The 78-year-old acting and singing legend is reported by the Daily Mail newspaper columnist Alison Boshoff to be skipping the showing of ‘Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story’ next Wednesday (12.06.24).
The ‘Journey Back to Oz’ star has been using a wheelchair, most recently pictured in April in the aide.
Meanwhile, a friend of the screen veteran claimed she was “sabotaged” at the Oscars.
Singer Michael Feinstein said the ‘Cabaret’ icon appeared on stage at the 94th Academy Awards to present the Best Picture prize with Lady Gaga to ‘CODA – in a wheelchair instead of the director’s chair she was promised due to her “back trouble”.
Liza’s long-time collaborator claims the Academy let his friend down by not fulfilling their promise to allow her to appear on stage in a director’s chair as was agreed prior to the event.
Appearing on SiriusXM’s ‘The Jess Cagle Show’, he said: “You know, that whole thing was, she was sabotaged. That’s the terrible word to use, but she only agreed to appear at the Oscars if she would be in the director’s chair, ’cause she’s been having back trouble.
“She said, ‘I don’t want people to see me limping out there.’ She said, ‘You know, I wanna look good. I don’t want people to worry about me.’”
Feinstein asserted that the performer – who is the daughter of the late Hollywood legend Judy Garland and her second husband Vincente Minnelli – was forced out in a wheelchair because the event’s production team were “shaken up” after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock.
He said: “And then literally, literally five minutes before she went on, when she sat in the director’s chair back there, and because every, I guess they were all shaken up because of everything that had happened earlier, the stage manager said, ‘Well, she has to be in a wheelchair’ and Liza pleaded.”
Feinstein revealed that the ordeal “made her look like she was out of it”, which was not the case, and the experience upset Liza.
He said: “She was nervous. I mean, and it made her look like she was out of it. And she was just so shaken up that it was. Can you imagine being suddenly forced to be seen by millions of people the way you don’t wanna be seen? That’s what happened to her. And she was very disappointed at that, that that happened and it was not what was agreed to.”
Feinstein assured everyone that Liza was “doing well” and called it a “shame” how it played out.
He said: “So she’s, she is really doing well and it’s a shame that it turned out that way. She was very disappointed.”

Jon Bon Jovi wasn’t ’emotionally ready’ to meet Frank Sinatra

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Bon Jovi “wasn’t emotionally ready” to meet the late Frank Sinatra.
The 62-year-old rocker hailed from New Jersey, the same state as the legendary ‘My Way’ crooner and he admitted he turned down “numerous chances” to meet the musical icon when Bon Jovi first found fame because the idea was so intimidating, which he regrets now.
He told The Guardian newspaper of snubbing Sinatra: “That is one of my few regrets in life.
“I had numerous chances but I wasn’t emotionally ready. I didn’t know enough about all the aspects of who he was and how so many of those aspects influenced things that I did in my life.”
Jon and his bandmates shot to fame with their 1986 album ‘Slippery When Wet’ and he admitted it was a confusing time.
He said: “It changed people around us more than it changed us. Suddenly people who we would usually ask for advice [like my parents] were now asking us for advice.”
And the ‘Always’ hitmaker regrets not “enjoying” the rock’n’roll lifestyle as much as the rest of the group.
He explained: “For me, when everything relies on me singing, I’m going to have to go to bed earlier than the others.
“I wish I had enjoyed the success more, but somebody has to be the quarterback of the team to keep the band together.”
Jon – who has children Stephanie, 30, Jesse, 29, Jake, 21, and 20-year-old Romeo with wife Dorothea Hurley – will always support his children but insisted they are not “trust-fund babies” and know they need to work for a living.
He said: “My kids observe my work ethic and that’s in their DNA now – they’re not trust-fund babies.
“You have to go to work. I will give them enough to make sure they have shoes on their feet but like Dorothea says: ‘Daddy has money, you don’t have anything.’”

Normani ‘didn’t know what she sounded like’ after leaving Fifth Harmony

OHMYGOSSIP — Normani struggled with her identity after leaving Fifth Harmony.
The 28-year-old singer joined the chart-topping girl group as a teenager – but she didn’t know “who or what Normani even sounded like” after the band announced their hiatus in 2018.
Normani – who starred in the group alongside Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Camila Cabello – told Dazed magazine: “Coming out of the group, I didn’t necessarily know who or what Normani even sounded like.
“I needed some time to have life experiences, challenge myself in the studio and not be afraid.”
Normani is set to release her long-awaited debut album, ‘Dopamine’, later this month.
And the singer acknowledges that it looks “a little crazy” to release her debut album so many years after the band announced their hiatus.
She added: “I know what it’s like to put out music that I don’t necessarily believe in. It hurts when I don’t feel like I’m able to be fully represented or when I have to stand behind something I don’t believe in, and I did that for so long. So I made an oath to myself that, when I got the opportunity, I was gonna do things my way, and be unapologetic about that.”
Earlier this month, Normani confessed to having bittersweet memories of her time in Fifth Harmony.
The ‘Candy Paint’ hitmaker admitted that she experience some challenging times in the group.
She told Rolling Stone magazine: “I’m grateful for all of it, even the moments where I might’ve felt inadequate or less than. It definitely has a lot to do with why I am the way that I am.”
Normani also recalled struggling with her confidence at times.
She said: “It definitely took a toll on my confidence.
“Would I do some things differently or wish that some things were done differently? Of course, but I also don’t want to sit here and make it sound like it wasn’t part of my story.”

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson had an ‘immediate connection’

OHMYGOSSIP — David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson struck up an “immediate connection” when they first met.
The 63-year-old actor previously starred alongside Gillian, 55, in hit sci-fi series ‘The X-Files’, and David has now revealed that the celebrity duo had an instant “connection”.
Speaking to PEOPLE, the actor shared: “I think immediately, when we were reading together on the stairs to go in to audition, we knew that we could work together.
“There was an immediate connection through the work that we could do, and that lasted for a long, long time.”
‘The X-Files’ proved to be a global success. However, David has endured plenty of ups and downs during his own career, and he’s discussed his setbacks on his ‘Fail Better’ podcast series.
The Hollywood star explained: “It’s not about revelling in the shame of it all.
“It’s about the true hurt of it and the response after the hurt. How do you go ahead in your life stronger and not debilitated by the wound of a big failure?”
David and Gillian enjoyed huge success together. However, the actress previously admitted that their relationship has gone through lots of ups and downs over the years.
She told the Guardian newspaper: “I mean, yes, there were definitely periods when we hated each other. Hate is too strong a word. We didn’t talk for long periods of time. It was intense, and we were both pains in the a*** for the other at various times.”
Despite this, the duo remain close friends.
Asked about their past issues, Gillian said: “I’m not going to get into it. I’m not even going to begin to get into that. But we are closer today than we ever have been.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift is having “the most fun” on her Eras Tour.
The award-winning star performed at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Friday (07.06.24), and Taylor told the crowd that she’s loved her tour so far, describing it as the best experience of her “entire life”.
Taylor, 34, told the crowd: “My one regret before now is that I really should have come to perform in Scotland more. I can’t stop staring at you. I’m captivated by this audience.”
Taylor’s concert featured some of her best-known hits, including ‘Cruel Summer’ and ‘The Man’, and she thanked the fans for giving her such a warm welcome in Scotland.
The blonde beauty said: “Tonight’s concert is the most highly attended show in Scottish history.
“That is the wildest way to welcome a lass.
“After tonight, you’re going to think about us and the memories we made.”
During the show, Taylor also spotted a couple getting engaged.
The chart-topping singer – who is dating NFL star Travis Kelce – said: “I’m pretty sure I just saw an engagement … that’s a pretty big moment … thanks for doing it here.”
Taylor’s shows are reportedly set to boost UK spending by almost £1 billion.
The ‘Anti-Hero’ hitmaker is playing 15 dates across June and August, with over a million fans expected to attend the shows.
Dr Peter Brooks, the chief behavioural scientist at Barclays, recently said: “When it comes to cultural icons like Taylor Swift – like we saw with Elvis and Beatlemania in the 50s and 60s – supporters have such a strong connection to the artist and to the rest of the fandom that the desire to spend becomes even more powerful.
“For non-fans, £848 may seem like an enormous amount to splash out on a concert, but for Eras Tour ticket-holders, every pound they spend is an investment in the memories they’ll create.”

The 37-year-old star – who has Juno, four, with her ex-husband Joshua Jackson – has revealed that motherhood is her “favourite” thing in the world.
During an appearance on ‘Today with Hoda and Jenna’, Jodie explained: “Honestly, it’s my favourite thing about myself is that I’m that girl’s mother.

Meanwhile, Jodie previously claimed that getting divorced was the “healthiest” outcome for herself and her family.
The actress filed for a divorce in 2023, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their break-up.
Jodie told the Sunday Times Style magazine: “Sometimes things we really want to work just don’t end up working. And that’s OK.
“The most important thing is that you choose what’s healthiest for you and your family and definitely your children. There are so many different moments in our life where we look at ourselves and say, ‘Who am I and am I being true to that?’
“If the answer is no, then you have to make a move because I believe that there are visible scars from staying in places that are not good for us. And they don’t just affect us, they affect everybody around us. I don’t think it’s a failure.
“We obviously had such a beautiful moment together. And now it’s time for a new moment for both of us. And how exciting!”

The 27-year-old actress acknowledges that she doesn’t have a strict workout routine, but Zendaya feels that exercising can be really beneficial for her mental health.
She told Vogue: “It’s a joke amongst my friends and family, but I don’t have a workout practice, per se. I’m not the best at keeping up with it.”
Despite this, Zendaya has began to recognise the value of staying healthy and active.
The Hollywood star said: “I think sometimes people assume that because of what they see of me, maybe I’m a certain way. But when I’m not working, I tend to isolate myself.
“My therapist, family, and friends will tell me, ‘You need to get up and get out,’ and I never want to – but when I make myself do it, I realise it’s actually kind of nice. I’m less anxious.
“I have to really be intentional about taking care of myself. I’m learning to be more responsible for myself and for my own body and looking after it all.”
Zendaya accepts that her mental health remains a work in progress.
The actress – who is in a long-term relationship with her ‘Spider-Man’ co-star Tom Holland – said: “Sometimes it’s just getting out of bed, telling myself, ‘We’re facing the day: we’re taking a shower, we’re putting on real clothes, we’re seeing some sunshine.’ I try to set little challenges for myself.”
Zendaya also appreciates having a strong support network around her.
She shared: “It can look different for different people, but everybody needs to have people to reach out to and talk to and feel supported by.
“I think for most people, it’s not always easy to go on a several-mile run every morning; sometimes it’s hard to do even the little things to take care of yourself. It helps to feel like you’re not the only one.”
