Emma Roberts reacts to Quiet On Set documentary: ‘I was shocked and horrified…’

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Roberts had “no idea” of the abuse that was taking place when she was a child star on Nickelodeon.
The 33-year-old actress started her career as a teenager when she landed the leading role of schoolgirl and budding songwriter Addie Singer on the show ‘Unfabulous’ and was “horrified and shocked” to watch the recent Discovery+ documentary ‘Quiet On Set’, in which a slew of other former child actors who also starred on the network around the same time alleged instances of abuse and a toxic working environment at the hands of producer Dan Schneider.
She told Variety: “I watched [“Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV”], and I was completely horrified and shocked because that was not my experience. “It made me really, really, really sad that that was happening to people that I literally saw often and had no idea. For me, my show, ‘Unfabulous’, the showrunner we had was this amazing woman named Sue Rose.
“And I didn’t realise at the time, but a female showrunner back then was not very common.
“But that was my intro into working on a TV show. Also, my mom was with me 24/7, and even I would be like, “You don’t have to be here all the time,” she was like, “’ do actually. I’m not letting you out of my sight. You’re not going to a fitting by yourself when you’re 13 years old .”
The ‘American Horror Story’ actress felt “really sad” when she watched the film – in which former ‘Drake and Josh star Drake Bell revealed that he had been subjected to “extensive and brutal” abuse at the hands of Nickelodeon dialogue coach Brian Peck while others claimed that ‘iCarly’ producer Dan had created a “hostile environment” as he made the likes of Amanda Bynes and Miranda Cosgrove into teen stars – and was “kept up” by what she had learned.
She added: “It makes me really sad, and I just feel like children need to be protected on sets, as do adults, and I feel like we’re working towards a better work environment in that sense. But yeah, that documentary really kept me up at night.”

American Pie singer Don McLean reveals why he never felt ‘poor’ – even when he was broke

OHMYGOSSIP — Don McLean never felt “poor” – even when he was broke.
The 78-year-old singer now has a reported net worth of $50 million but explained that even when he was struggling to build his career, he still had the impetus to keep going as he insisted that these days people need to stop placing so much emphasis on how much money they could have.
He told Fox News Digital: “I was broke, but I was never poor. I think people are poorer now [when] they have more money than they ever were when they were broke, because they don’t understand how great they are and how much they have inside, and they’ve given up, and all they think about is the dollars. “And so, you can have money and still not have that feeling inside, like, ‘I can make it anywhere.’
“I never stop feeling that way. Nobody ever told me – I was always better than all those other guys, OK? Nothing set me back. That’s America.”.”
The ‘Vincent’ singer is perhaps best known for his eight-and-a-half minute ballad ‘American Pie’ – which was inspired by the tragic plane crash death of rock and roll icon Buddy Holly in 1959 – and noted that any songwriter must experience a certain degree of “pain” in their life before they can realistically put pen to paper to make a hit.
He said: “There’s a lot of pain, you know, if you want to be a songwriter. you’re not hurting, you’re no good as a songwriter. You know, if you have everything work out perfect for you, you’ve got nothing to say, you know? And you certainly can’t relate to the average person out there who has all sorts of bad things in his life, you know, he has to deal with kids on drugs and ex-wives and no money, and you name it, one thing after another.”

Why Summer House’s Lindsay Hubbard has no intention of telling her ex that she is pregnant

OHMYGOSSIP — Lindsay Hubbard has no intention of personally telling her ex-fiance Carl Radke about her pregnancy.
The 37-year-old reality star split from Carl, 39, in September 2023 but revealed during her Fourth of July celebrations that she has found love with a new man – whose identity she has not disclosed publicly – and they are expecting a child together, but is too “focused” on the future to worry about what her former flame might think.
She told People: “I’m sure he’ll find out when the rest of the world finds out, but I’m not calling him up and having a conversation with him. That relationship is in my past, and I can’t really focus on my past anymore because I’m so focused on my present and my future.
“And to be honest, his emotions are no longer my responsibility. It’s just not my problem anymore.”
The ‘Summer House’ star and her new love are also aware of the sex of the baby and they have already started considering baby names but have decided not to tell anyone else what they are having.
She added: “We’re not telling anyone what we’re having yet, but the second we found out we were like, ‘Okay, let’s talk about names,’ We already have one in mind, but we’ll see if it sticks as the months go on.”
“I’ve been very lucky and blessed that the pregnancy has been fairly easy. I’ve had no morning sickness, no nausea — if anything, it’s been the opposite because my pregnancy hunger is insatiable. But it’s been a really, really easy pregnancy.
“I’m just excited to actually be able to talk about it publicly now and share in the celebration with our friends.
“I’m a very ‘scream from the rooftops’ kind of girl. I’m just ready to let it all out now.”

Elon Musk ‘always wanted’ Coco Pops as a child, but his mom couldn’t afford them

OHMYGOSSIP — Elon Musk “always wanted” Coco Pops as a child, but his family couldn’t afford them.
The 53-year-old businessman is the richest man in the world now with a reported net worth of $218 billion thanks to his tech companies Tesla and SpaceX but his mother Maye, 76, has recalled that he would often yearn for the chocolate cereal while she managed the tight budget as she brought the family up in South Africa.
Maye told Fox News Digital: “When I got divorced [in 1979], I couldn’t afford to buy meat, fish or chicken. So I had to feed my children bean stew. And as they say, they did get tired of my bean stew. But I did vary from it. I used different beans and lots of vegetables. [I also gave them] fruits in season. Of course, we could never have afforded organic or anything like that.
“You [also] get whole wheat bread… in South Africa, brown bread was subsidized by the government. White bread was more expensive, so we only ate brown bread. And of course, it kept us all in good health. And then we had cereal and fruit in the morning.
“I remember Elon saying, ‘I always wanted Coco Pops, but we only got Raisin Bran.’ Well, the thing is, Coco Pops were more expensive and less nutritious, so that’s what [my children] got. And if they complained, I didn’t listen.”
These days, Maye – who divorced from Elon’s father Errol in 1979 – is able to “eat very well” and believes that a good diet is the key to looking young.
She said: “I eat very well. To me, to keep a body healthy and skin glowing, you have to eat well. That keeps me in good health… [When my children visit], we usually send out for meat, fish or chicken. Tosca and Kimbal really love cooking. So I always have delicious home-cooked meals..”

Emma Roberts reveals that she has lost jobs because of her famous relatives

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Roberts has “lost jobs” because of her famous family members.
The 33-year-old actress is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and the niece of ‘Pretty Woman’ star Julia Roberts but claimed that having family connections in the industry has not always provided her with the opportunities some might assume.
She told Flaunt: “I’ve lost more jobs than I’ve gained from being in the business. People have opinions and sometimes maybe they’re not good opinions of people in your family. I’ve never gotten a job because of it, I know I definitely have lost a couple of jobs because of it.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Scream Queens’ star – who began her career as a child actress on Nickelodeon before going on to appear in teen comedies such as ‘Wild Child’ – has three-year-old son Rhodes with actor Garrett Hedlund but decided after they split to stop dating those who are in in the same business.
She said: “One day the veil was lifted and I didn’t want to date actors anymore. It’s hard, I think, for two actors to be together. I’m trying to think if I’ve seen it done successfully. Also, the actors I’ve been with border on method actors, and that is something that I think is extremely difficult to be in a relationship with—at least for me, especially the characters that they were playing.”
The ‘American Horror Story’ actress also admitted that despite starting out in showbiz at an early age, she was able to “hang on to some innocence longer” than perhaps her industry peers may have been able to.
She said: “I feel like, in a way I got to hang on to some innocence longer [than usual]. I know everyone has a different take on how [modern] celebrities or people should be online and how serious they should be. My social media is for fun, it’s for reading, it’s for fashion, but if you want to get really deep with me or know what I think about things, you’re not going to see it posted on my social media.”

He said: “I warm up on a small trampoline, which balances your vestibular system and brain. In arenas, they have big, team showers, so I [do vocal] warm-ups in there. I’ll also have a nice, cold Sapporo.
“I like it really dim [in my dressing room], so low-lit candles. “[I have] a range of drinks [stocked] so people can come in and have a drink. There’s different snacks, but I don’t pay attention to the riders: If you put M+M’s on your rider, you’ll eat M+Ms for months!”
Meanwhile, Gavin – who has Kingston, 18, and Zuma, 15, with ex-wife Gwen Stefani -recently joked that even though his kids will see him solely as a “caterer”, he enjoys not having to choose between his career and spending time with them when he takes them on the road.
He said: ““I mean, they just keep me as a caterer that I like to be. When I’m on the road and without them — they’re the two best things in my life. “So when I can combine them, I can sing and do my thing and have people applaud me. … I get the applause from out there [on stage] from people and I come back and I’m just with them.”

“I went into a phone box, very retro, to call my mother, who was always worrying about my safety, and a man kicked the door of the phone box in so I would be trapped and tried to get in it with me. She said: “It doesn’t always go as planned and it’s the journey. It ended up being the biggest blessing of my life, but in the moment, it’s so painful. You mourn the future that never happened. You mourn the fantasy that you created, and that wasn’t the reality that was the best alignment for me.”

A source told E! News at the time: “Vanessa had the baby, and Michael is with her as well. They’re both thrilled.”

James Corden delays performance of West End play so he can watch England match

OHMYGOSSIP — James Corden delayed a performance of his West End play so he could stream the England v Switzerland match.
The 45-year-old actor is currently starring opposite Anna Maxwell Martin in a production of ‘The Constituent’ at The Old Vic in London and made the audience wait on Saturday (06.07.24) while he watched England take victory in the penalty shootout in the Euros by streaming it on his iPad at the side of the stage.
Becky Harris, who was in the audience, told Metro.co.uk: “What were the chances! James was at the side of the stage just before [the show] was due to start with his iPad watching the game.
‘Then he came out as the crowd started calling him and he brought the iPad out on stage and he and his co-star streamed the penalties.”
But Ms Harris noted that in the end, the former ‘Late Late Show’ host was cursed with a bad signal on his tablet so relied on an audience member who could play the match on his phone and invited the man up to the stage with him.
She said: “It started buffering so a man on the front row started filling James in on what was happening. James told him to come over with his phone and they all started watching it on stage together!”
The role is James’ first since he relocated back to the UK following almost a decade-long stint in the US and the play deconstructs politics, panic alarms and the conflict between public service and personal safety.
Playwright Joe Penhall said: ‘I began writing this play four years ago, as I became fascinated and appalled by the growing antipathy towards elected politicians.
“But during lockdown it looked like theatre was done for, so when I showed a rough first draft to Matthew and he had such a confident vision for it, I was simultaneously thrilled and doubtful of our chances.
“It’s beyond exciting to be finally doing it and I feel utterly indebted to The Old Vic and everyone involved for getting us here.’

Rob Delaney wants to buy the home his son died in

OHMYGOSSIP — Rob Delaney wants to buy the home his son died in.
In 2018, the actor tragically lost his two-year-old son Henry after a battle with brain cancer and Rob revealed he asked the landlord to let him know if he ever plans to sell the property as Rob wants to buy it and spend his own final moments there in the future.
Speaking to Lauren Laverne on ‘Desert Island Discs’, Rob said: “We don’t live there any more but when we moved out I asked the landlord, ‘Listen, if you are ever going to sell this place will you let me know first because I would like to buy it’, so when I’m 81 I can crawl in here and die, in the same room that my son died in, that my other son was born in.”
Rob spoke about the final months that he, his wife Leah and their other two sons spent with Henry.
He said: “He did have a good death. His final months – we had four-and-a-half of them where we knew he was going to die – his brothers were just so into him.
“They all loved each other so much… I watched a four and a six-year-old hold their brother’s dead body, I watched them take unbelievable care of him and learn difficult things because he required really intense things to take care of him.
“I just hate thinking about them not having him. I really hate it.
“They talk about him all the time and they love him, and they smile when they talk about him and they love to look at ¬pictures of him and he is very much part of our lives.
“I don’t know what words to use, don’t care. I talk to him. I don’t know if he hears me. It doesn’t matter… He is my son, I am his dad and I love him.”
The American actor also revealed he and Leah have been unable to leave London, because it holds too many memories of Henry.
He said: “For so many reasons… one of which is I like to go put my hands on the slide at the playground that Henry slid down.
“I like to see [the] nurses, periodically bump into them, that took care of him. So London is very important to me and London took very good care of him.”
Desert Island Discs airs on BBC Radio 4 at 10am on Sunday (07.07.24) and is also available on BBC Sounds.

John Cena to retire from WWE in 2025

OHMYGOSSIP — John Cena will retire from the WWE in 2025.
The wrestler-turned-actor announced at the Money in the Bank event in Toronto, Canada, over the weekend, that he will step down from the World Wrestling Entertainment company next year.
John, 47, told the crowd: “Tonight, I announce my retirement from the WWE.
“I hear a mixed opinion out there. A lot of questions maybe, right? Like, why here? I want to talk about that for a second. I want to talk about Toronto. Matter of fact, I want to talk about Canada. Matter of fact, I want to talk about Canadians.
“I’ve been doing this a while. I’ve been in WWE for over two decades and in that time I’ve seen incredible waves of prosperity like we got right now. WWE is the hottest ticket in town, no doubt.
“And I’ve also seen tremendous hardship and that’s when nobody knows your name, nobody wants to be your friend and only the most dedicated, hardcore fans stand by your side.
“So in all those years one of the most important, one of the most impressive things that I learned was whether the WWE was hot or cold, Canadians always show up.
“All of you built this to what it is today which makes this, in my mind, the perfect place to say what I’ve got to say.
“This farewell does not end tonight. It is filled with opportunity. I want to say thank you. Thank you so much for letting me play in the house that you built for so many years. Thank you so much always for your voice, because it’s really loud and your honesty because it’s beautifully brutal. and most of all thank you so much for allowing me to be here with you tonight.”
John added that he will undertake a final tour with the WWE in 2025, taking in Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania.
The star signed with WWE in 2001 and is a 16-time world champion.
Since 2018, he has performed part-time.

Debbie Harry’s Blondie inspiration

OHMYGOSSIP — Debbie Harry dyed her hair blonde because she was “bored”.
The singer’s famous barnet gave her band the name Blondie after a truck driver shouted it at her on the street and now her bandmate Chris Stein has revealed it all came about because Debbie worked at a salon and decided to ditch her brunette locks during a slow day when she didn’t have any customers.
In his new book ‘Under a Rock’, Chris wrote: “I was in Debbie’s apartment one afternoon and she came back from work at the salon in New Jersey and I saw that she had dyed her hair blonde.
“She said they hadn’t had many customers and she and her friend and co-worker Ricky had gotten bored.
“She had slicked it down; it looked like Twiggy’s famous hair cut”.
The change happened during the early days of the band and Chris revealed Debbie came up with the name after several men shouted: ‘Hey blondie’ at her on the street.
He added: “One day Debbie came back to the apartment on Thompson Street and announced that several men in the street, including a guy leaning out of a truck window, had shouted: ‘Hey blondie!’ at her and she thought that would be a good name for a band.”
They adopted the name and Blondie played their first show at fabled venue CBGB’s in New York on October 12 1974.
Chris and Debbie were a couple during the early years of the band and they were together for more than a decade.
He recently admitted the former lovers are “still close” and they are still in touch even though he is now married to actress Barbara Sicuranza.
He told The Times newspaper: “We are still very close. But I’ve been married for 25 years now.”
When it was suggested to him that it must be “very odd” for him to be constantly questioned about his old relationship, Chris agreed and explained: “Yeah. Well, my wife puts up with it. She does.”
Debbie, 78, even cared for Chris when he was diagnosed with pemphigus vulgaris, a rare autoimmune disease of the skin and broke the band up to look after him.
The couple went their separate ways in 1985, but Chris has retained a professional relationship with Debbie over the years.

Kevin Costner’s son named after Horizon character

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Costner’s son is named after his character in ‘Horizon’.
The 69-year-old actor cast his son Hayes, 15 – whose mother is Costner’s ex Christine Baumgartner – in his latest film ‘Horizon: An American Saga’ and revealed he has been working on the idea so long that Hayes actually got his name from the main character.
He told HELLO! magazine: “He had never acted before but he did a good job. It’s a small part but I was glad to be able to help him and that he was able to be with me on this, and that he was able to follow the level of direction that I was able to give him.
“Hayes actually gets his name from my character in this, Hayes Ellison. That’s how long I’ve been working on this project. It’s a story I’ve wanted to tell since before he was born. It’s beautiful that he’s here to help me tell it.”
Kevin spent millions of his own money on the movie and revealed he was so passionate about the project that he didn’t care about spending his own cash.
He said: “It was so hard to get people to believe in the movie that I wanted to make.
“I made this movie for me, but I also make it for the people, for audiences. It was the same with ‘Dances with Wolves’, ‘Field of Dreams’, ‘Bull Durham’, ‘Open Range’. I never think my movie is better than anybody else’s movie, but I don’t think anybody else’s movie is better than mine. It just so happens that my moves are harder to make.
“My problem is that if I think something is good, I have to do it anyway.
“But I’m lucky. I’ve been lucky in life and I’ve acquired some things – land, four homes. I’m at a point where I don’t need four homes so I’m willing to take a risk to make my movies. Ideally, I want to leave those homes to my children but they live their own lives. Hopefully this will go well and I won’t lose any homes, but it is a risk.
“I’m passionate about the work, sure. I still like it.”
