Keanu Reeves ‘didn’t write’ new novel

OHMYGOSSIP — Keanu Reeves “didn’t write any” of his new novel.
The ‘John Wick’ actor has teamed up with one of his favourite authors, China Miéville, on ‘The Book of Elsewhere’, which is inspired by his own ‘BRZRKR’ comic books and features the series’ protagonist, immortal warrior Unute aka B, but he left penning the story to his collaborator.
He admitted to The Guardian newspaper: “I didn’t want to write the book. I wanted another creator to take that journey. So, ultimately, China has written the novel. It’s not, like, we could look at page eight and say, ‘Oh, I wrote this section.’ I didn’t write any of the novel.’”
The pair first met face-to-face in Berlin in 2021, and went through China’s first draft in a series of Zoom meetings, with the 51-year-old author admitting it took him some time to grasp Keanu’s ideas, but ultimately he realised the 59-year-old star’s suggestions were “absolutely right”.
He said: “What I felt he was particularly perspicacious about was questions of character – which shouldn’t be a surprise because of the acting.
“But the way we talk about things structurally, and in terms of character, isn’t necessarily the same. We don’t come with the same vernacular.
“So there was a process where I had to learn to understand what was being put to me. I remember a couple of times when you were saying things about B, and I was like, I know I’m not getting what he’s saying.
“Then after a couple of goes around – oh, OK, I get it. And every time that happened – I can think of three times very particularly – I was, like, oh: he’s absolutely right.”
The ‘Speed’ actor couldn’t be happier with the end result of their collaboration.
He said: “I’m reading a ‘BRZRKR’ China Miéville novel! Yeah! What, what, what? And then like, why am I crying? Why am I feeling so much? And then what is that? And then? Wait, I need to like … what’s that f******word? Oh, yeah. Great.”
Keanu released the first volume of -BRZRKR’ – which he created with writer Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney – in November 2021. The second volume in the series was released in 2022 and the third volume was released in October 2023.
In 2021, it was announced that Netflix would develop a live-action film based on the comic book, which Keanu is attached to star in.
‘The Book of Elsewhere’ will be released on 23 July.

Shannen Doherty’s divorce finalised two days after her death

OHMYGOSSIP — Shannen Doherty’s divorce was finalised two days after her death.
The ‘Beverly Hills, 90201’ star passed away on July 13 at the age of 53 after a long battle with cancer and it was previously revealed she managed to reach a settlement with her estranged husband Kurt Iswarienko a day before she died – and now it has emerged the case was signed off by a judge two days after she died to grant her a rare posthumous divorce on 15 July.
In the court documents, it was revealed Shannen agreed to waive spousal support and opted for a “default or uncontested dissolution” of her marriage to Kurt.
It has been reported that the TV star kept the former couple’s home in Malibu, California, as well as a Salvador Dali painting, several cars and all earnings from her acting career. No further details have been released about who will inherit Shannen’s estate.
The former couple wed in 2011 and Shannen filed for divorce last year. The legal spat turned nasty earlier this year when Shannened claim in court papers that Kurt was hoping “I die before he is required to pay me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his dying wife of more than 11 years”.
A lawyer for the snapper rejected her claims, alleging he wanted to finalise their divorce in September 2023 with a settlement deal – which was denied by Shannen as he allegedly “skirted around” how much he earned in the early aughts of their marriage.
After Shannen’s death, her friend Tara Furiani accused Kurt of showing a lack of “humanity” during the divorce battle. In a message shared via LinkedIn, Tara explained: “I’m really sad and upset about my friend Shannen’s death … Because of the divorce she was going through at the time.
“She had stage 4 breast cancer that has metastasised to numerous parts of her body, death was inevitable and she knew that … made peace with that.
“Shan lost everything (including her SAG insurance) and her husband was dragging his feet with income discovery in court, in an effort to delay a judgement or payment, until she died (where it would now be moot).
“Life is so hard … life is extra hard with cancer and without the support you thought you’d have. If you have the opportunity to be a decent person, take it. You have no idea what people are dealing with and going through.”
Another of the actress’ pals added to New York Post column PageSix: “We knew that it was really bad. She fought so hard, and it’s so unfair … Shannen died before the divorce could be rubber-stamped in the courts. All we wanted was for Shannen to get her final wish – to die as a divorced woman.”

Andy Murray wants to avoid ‘eating junk’ and gaining weight after retirement

OHMYGOSSIP — Andy Murray wants to avoid “eating junk” and gaining weight after he retires from tennis.
The 37-year-old sports star will hang up his racket after competing at the Olympic Games in Paris this summer and he’s already making plans to keep himself in shape once he’s no longer in full-time training because he wants to avoid a repeat of what happened during his enforced time off throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
He told OK! magazine: “I’ll definitely still be playing tennis [after I retire]. Just not on the Tour. I plan to play a lot more golf, and I’ll probably carry on working with my Strength and Conditioning coach, Matt Little, as I transfer from being a full-time athlete and adjusting to not needing to do quite so much.
“I put on weight during COVID when I wasn’t training as much and eating junk. I didn’t really like it, so I need to avoid that.”
However, Andy will be relaxing his super-strict diet when he’s no longer a professional athlete and is looking forward to indulging in the occasional treat.
He added: “I love ice cream. And I’m partial to a biscuit or two. I like the ones with chocolate on top – I think they are called Choco Leibniz …
“I’ve actually had a pretty restrictive diet for a long time as you have to eat healthy stuff as an athlete, so I’m looking forward to relaxing a bit and trying a few new things. I’ll still eat a lot of sushi though – that’s my favourite.”
Andy previously won a gold and a silver medal at the 2021 Olympics in London and went on to claim gold again at the games in Rio in 2016. He will be competing in Paris in the mens singles as well as the mens doubles with partner Dan Evans.

All My Children star Esta TerBlanche dies aged 51

OHMYGOSSIP — Esta TerBlanche has died at the age of 51.
The actress – who was best known for playing Hungarian princess Gillian Andrassy on ‘All My Children’ from 1997 until 2001 – was found dead at her Hollywood home, and medical experts suspect she may have passed away the day before her body was discovered.
Esta’s manager, Annie Spoliansky confirmed the sad news.
She told People magazine in a statement: “We are deeply saddened by this news. As for a personal statement, I’d like to say that Esta was such a kind, loving, giving, and caring person.
“She cared so deeply for all people and animals.
“She had squirrels she fed and looked after daily, her two cats and recent kittens that she cared for as her own children.
“Esta was never anything but generous and lovely to me, and I’m grateful to have known her for the time that I did, and devastated to learn of her passing.”
Even though her character was killed off in ‘All My Children’, Esta made a big comeback as a ghost during the show’s last episodes after ABC announced it would be cancelling the long-running series in 2011, and she admitted it was a “really emotional” moment for herself and co-star Cameron Mathison.
Speaking about her TV comeback, she previously told Soap Opera Digest: “When I came back, it was really emotional for me and Cameron. When we saw each other, we both started bawling.
“Back then, we hadn’t seen each other for years, so it was such a touching moment for us.”

She also worked with filmmaker Michael Kastenbaum on documentaries and hosted TV shows like ‘Supermodel’ and ‘Carte Blanche’.

Ryan Reynolds thinks Taylor Swift would be a ‘great’ Deadpool

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Reynolds thinks Taylor Swift would be the perfect choice to take over as Deadpool.
The 47-year-old actor reprises his role as Wade Robson and his wise-cracking alter ego in the upcoming ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ but if he ever decides to step aside from the part, he thinks his friend would be a “very good” candidate to replace him because of her own quick wit.
He told E! News: “I always do say that if anyone ever were to take over the role of Deadpool, actually Taylor would be very good.
“Because that’s a superpower that I don’t know that she shows everyone too often: She’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”
The ‘If’ actor also dismissed ongoing speculation that the ‘Cruel Summer’ hitmaker will have a cameo role in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.
He said: “I will say once and for all that the cameo thing with Taylor, because she’s our friend — that is not in this film.”
Ryan’s co-star in the film, Hugh Jackman, joked the ‘Love Story’ hitmaker is actually nanny to the four children the ‘Free Guy’ actor has with wife Blake Lively.
And Ryan joked the cost of hiring his pal to care for James, nine, Inez, seven, four-year-old Betty and their 17-month-old sibling would be “insane”.
He quipped: “The cost of that is… I believe the accountant said, ‘Cost-prohibitive.’ But I think what he meant was, ‘Cost-insane-what-are-you-doing-I’m-no-longer-you’re-accountant.’ ”
Taylor previously revealed the name of Ryan and Blake’s third child on the track ‘betty’ on her ‘folklore’ album, with the song also featuring mentions of James and Inez.
And the Wrexham AFC co-owner recently joked he and his wife had been unable to name their fourth child – whose sex or other details they have never publicly shared – because Taylor hadn’t told them what it would be yet.
He quipped on ‘Today’: “We always wait for Taylor to tell us what the child’s name will be.
“And, we’ll say this: we’re still waiting, so Taylor, let’s maybe start.
“You know, she’s a prolific writer. I mean, what are we doing here?
“And lazy is not a word I’d attach to Taylor.”

John Stamos thinks Bob Saget’s passing sparked biggest ‘tsunami of love’ since Princess Diana’s death

The 60-year-old actor was left devastated when his ‘Full House’ co-star died suddenly in January 2022 after hitting his head, and he wishes he friend had some awareness of just how “loved he was” before he died.
Speaking to Dave Coulier on their ‘Full House Rewind’ podcast, John said: “The saddest part for me is that he didn’t know how loved he was.
“I mean when he died it was like a tsunami of love. I’m not being funny, but I don’t even remember a person before Bob getting that much attention when they passed, maybe Princess Diana.
“And that’s the sad part because he was very hard on himself, as you know.
“And we talk about him being an egomaniac, he wasn’t, but he had to puff himself up because he felt so bad about himself.
“He didn’t realise how brilliant he was or realise how loved he was. I’d like to think of him as still up there on stage killing it and people laughing.”
Although it has been more than two years since Bob passed away, John is still “processing” the loss.
He said: “We’re still processing the loss of him.”
Dave replied: “It’s left a huge void in our lives. We dedicated the first episode of ‘Full House Rewind’ to Bob.”
Over their decades of friendship, Bob often told his pal: “Tomorrow’s never promised”.
And John admitted the saying is the big “lesson” he has taken from his friend’s passing.
He said: “Here’s the lesson from him and you know this. He never left anything on the table. He always said, ‘I love you. I care about you. I’m proud of you. You’re my brother.’ Tomorrow’s never promised folks.”

“You don’t know where life will take you in the next five years … We have amazing kids, so I don’t want a lot of love being taken.”

Charli XCX brands US Vice President Kamala Harris ‘brat’ – as compliment

OHMYGOSSIP — Charli XCX has branded US Vice President Kamala Harris a “brat” – as a compliment.
The singer, 31, gave her backing to the 59-year-old and her presidential campaign just after US President Joe Biden, 81, announced on Sunday (21.07.24) he was quitting his race for the White House after contracting Covid.
Following Joe’s announcement he was also giving his “full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee for our party this year”, Charli wrote on X: “Kamala IS brat.”
Her post referred to the title of her latest album, released on 7 June – and soon after the post Kamala’s official campaign cashed in on the support by changing its banner on X to mimic the style of “brat”.
After the alteration, it read “kamala hq” in lowercase black lettering with a lime green background.
Charli – real name Charlotte Emma Aitchison – defined her take on the word “brat” in a video on TikTok, saying: “You’re just like that girl who is a little messy and likes to party and maybe says some dumb things sometimes.
“Who feels herself but maybe also has a breakdown. But kind of like parties through it, is very honest, very blunt. A little bit volatile.
“Like does dumb things. But it’s brat. You’re brat. That’s brat.”
Some of Kamala’s most popular quotes and video clips have now been spliced together and set to Charli’s songs.
Many of the clips have been tinted in the lime green hue of the singer’s ‘brat’ album cover – or the cover is seen popping up in between clips of Harris.
One of the most used quotes in the clips is Kamala telling the US president: “We did it, Joe”, after he was elected in 2020 – making her the first female vice president in American history.
Kamala launched her first full day of campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination on Monday (22.07.24) following Joe’s withdrawal from the 2024 election race.
A growing number of Democrats have now endorsed her to become the party’s nominee in the 5 November election – and she said in her first public speech since Joe stepped down he was feeling “much better” amid his bout of Covid.

Nicole Kidman believes Stanley Kubrick was ‘mining’ her and Tom Cruise’s marriage for inspiration

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicole Kidman thinks Stanley Kubrick was carefully “mining” her and Tom Cruise’s marriage for inspiration for his ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ film.
The Oscar-winner, 57, starred alongside Tom, 62, in the 1999 movie, which saw her play the wife of Tom’s doctor character Bill Hartford, who sends him reeling when she tells him she fantasised about sleeping with another man, sparking his descent into a shady underworld of orgies and satanic-style rituals controlled by society’s most rich and powerful forces.
Nicole – who married Tom nine years before the film came out and divorced him in 2001 – told the Los Angeles Times in an interview to mark the 25th anniversary of the film’s release when asked whether Stanley was taking inspiration from their marriage for the project: “I suppose he was mining it.”
She added: “There were ideas (Stanley) was interested in. He’d ask a lot of questions. But he had a strong sense of the story he was telling.
“I do remember him saying, ‘(Relationship) triangles are hard. You have to tread carefully when it’s a triangle’.
“Because one person could feel ganged up on. But he was aware of that and knew how to manage us.”
Nicole stressed she never felt “ganged up on” as she and Tom had such different relationships with Stanley.
She went on: “There’s something about being a woman in that equation, too. And Stanley liked women.
“He had a different relationship with Tom. They worked more closely together on his character.”
Fans have speculated shooting the film’s intense scenes that delved into complex couple dynamics put a string on the A-listers’ marriage, and Nicole said they spent weeks shooting one heavy scene that was eventually cut.
She added: “It was the scene with Tom and I where I start by smoking the spliff in bed and where I laugh and deliver the long monologue.
“That took many weeks. A lot of that was rehearsing in the bedroom and then him not liking what we’d done.
“So we ended up reworking it, constructing it as we went along. There was no need to rush. Stanley would never go over budget. What he bought was time.”
“When Tom and I first started with Stanley, it was at his home, and we didn’t even go over to the sets at Pinewood (Studios.)
“Six, eight weeks passed, and we’re wondering, ‘Are we ever going to start?’ “And we just wouldn’t start. We were getting comfortable with each other, comfortable enough to throw out ideas. For that scene, we improvised the beginning of it through the rehearsals.”
‘Eyes Wide Shut’ was met with a mixed critical reception when it came out but now has a cult following.
It was ‘Full Metal Jacket’ director Stanley’s last work before his death on 7 March, 1999, aged 70.
Nicole and Tom adopted their two children, daughter Isabella, 31, and son Connor, 29, in 1992 and 1995 respectively, before their 2001 divorce.
Nicole is now settled with musician Keith Urban, 56, with whom she has daughters Sunday, 16, and 13-year-old Faith.
Tom was married to actress Katie Holmes, 45, from 2006 to 2012 and they had 18-year-old daughter Suri.

“Thank you Christina for being a good partner to my Dad (red heart emoji) you will be missed.”
Clint and Christina – as well as the Oscar-winning actor and director’s seven other children – were guests at Morgan’s wedding to Tanner Koopmans in June.

His family said in a statement about how his death came just after he had retired from touring: “Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a trailblazer, icon and music legend who, through his 70-year music career, touched the lives of so many as he continued to tour until the end of 2023, and officially retired this year.
“As the last living founding member of the iconic Four Tops music group, we find solace in Duke’s legacy living on through his music for generations to come.”
Duke was behind Motown icons the Four Tops’ greatest smashes, including the Billboard Hot 100 chart toppers ‘I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)’.
It spent two non-consecutive weeks in the top spot in 1965 – along with the group’s 1966 hit ‘Reach Out I’ll Be There’.
Duke’s passing comes after the deaths of his three former bandmates – Lawrence Payton, Obie Benson and Levi Stubbs.
Born Abdul Kareem Fakir, Duke sang the first tenor line in the Four Tops.
Levi – who died aged 72 in 2008 – handled the majority of the band’s lead vocals, but Duke’s singing was critical in the group’s harmonising.
He was also a skilled diplomat, and considered the “glue” of the band.
Duke said in his 2022 memoir ‘I’ll Be There: My Life With the Four Tops’: “We were four totally different guys. But we had a love for the same thing, and that’s basically the whole story.
“Four guys from Detroit who came together because of our love of music, love of entertaining, and love of each other.”
He added in the book: “The Lord can retire me, but I’m not going to into the dark night quietly. I know I’m not in the fourth quarter anymore. I’m in overtime.”
Fakir was married twice – for the last 50 years to Piper Gibson, and had seven children.
He’s survived by six of his kids, and had seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In the mid-1960s, he was briefly engaged to Mary Wilson from the Supremes and lived in the Palmer Park section of Detroit with his second wife.

Shannen Doherty’s friends thought she had ‘more time’ left before her cancer death

OHMYGOSSIP — Shannen Doherty’s friends thought she had “more time” left before her cancer death.
The ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ actress died on 13 July 53 after losing her years-long battle with cancer, leaving her pals devastated – and her former ‘Charmed’ co-star Holly Marie Combs, 50, has now told how they were working together on the new podcast ‘The House of Halliwell’ with fellow cast members Brian Krause and Drew Fuller from the hit supernatural TV show in the weeks before Shannen’s death.
Holly said during a special tribute edition of the podcast in honour of Shannen: “That’s one of the saddest parts to me is that she was really looking forward to (this new podcast.)
“And she was actually really looking forward to watching the episodes with Rose (McGowan.)
“And one of the last times I was with her, we actually watched the first two episodes together like we were freaking teenagers again.
“And, we sat in her office and watched the episodes together before we recorded this.
“I’ve had a little bit of time to reflect on that and everything worked out.
“I think she did as much as she could in the time that she had. But, we did think we had more time.
“And that’s the really sad part is, you know, we had big, big plans for this year.
“And, she didn’t think she was going anywhere anytime soon.
“And that’s you know, it sounds terribly cliché, until it happens to you.”
Holly went on to stress she thought Shannen was happy in her final days.
She added: “I want everyone to know she was super happy to be here and she was really happy to watch it again with fresh eyes as she kept saying.”
