James Van Der Beek appreciates his ‘supportive’ family

OHMYGOSSIP — James Van Der Beek’s family have been “so supportive” of him amid his cancer battle.
The 47-year-old actor has found strength in his wife, Kimberly, and their children – Olivia, 14, Joshua, 12, Annabel, ten, Emilia, eight, Gwen, six, and Jeremiah, three – since he received his diagnosis.
Speaking about his wife, James told PEOPLE: “There’s no way to get through this without her.
“As much as it sucked this past year, there’s not a moment that I ever would have wanted to trade with her watching me go through this. To every caregiver out there, man, God bless you and thank you.”
Although James’ children have felt “scared” at times, they’ve also been hugely supportive of him.
The ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star said: “They’re scared. It’s natural. But they’ve been so supportive and loving and tender.”
James recently admitted that he was caught off-guard by his diagnosis.
The actor – who was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer – told PEOPLE: “It was just a change in bowel habits.
“I thought, I probably need to change my diet a little bit. Maybe I need to stop coffee. Maybe I need to not put cream in the coffee. And then I finally took that out of the diet, and it didn’t improve, and I thought, all right, I better go get this checked out.”
Initially, James was relaxed about the situation, assuming it would be easy to remedy.
He shared: “I felt really, really good as I was coming out of anesthesia that I had finally done it and looked into it. And as I was coming out of the haze, the gastroenterologist said – in his most pleasant bedside manner – it is cancer.”

Emily Watson’s upbringing in a cult-like group helped her to prepare for Dune: Prophecy

OHMYGOSSIP — Emily Watson’s upbringing in a cult-like group helped her to prepare for ‘Dune: Prophecy’.
In HBO’s prequel series to the ‘Dune films’, Emily, 57, plays Valya Harkonnen, leader of a controlling religious sect, and she admitted that her childhood in the School of Economic Science sect was a similar experience.
She told Vulture: “It’s in my wheelhouse, really. I was feeling the sense of young lives being controlled and a sense of appropriation. People end up in those places because they have a kind of damage. That was my way into it. I thought, I grew up with people who had that kind of presence.”
The SES is a global group that adheres to traditional gender roles, conservative sexual mores and has faced allegations of physical abuse as part of its strict disciplinary policies.
Speaking about what she was taught in the SES, Emily said: “No sex outside marriage, marriages for young women encouraged with older men, live at home until you’re married or with a family. We were told that ‘women can hold hands to change the world,’ which I absolutely believe to be true. But then we were encouraged to become mothers, nurses, and teachers. Independence was frowned upon.
“Needless to say, I wasn’t a very good student and did none of the above. I was, in part, protected from it because my parents were removed from it emotionally. We were a very strong unit as a family. Probably all religions have this, but when people are given power — and when you have power over children — it can get out of hand so easily. The day school was very new, and it was a very new organiSation that didn’t have any sense of governance. The whole thing started back in the ’40s. My dad joined when he was 18, so I think in the late ’50s. There are still things I’m grateful for, but there were a lot of things that were not right. All of us were desperate to be normal kids. We felt like we were on the outside looking in because we went to this strange setup.”
However, she did take some positives from her time in the group.
Emily said: “I learned about the idea of there being a unifying force of love in everything and that everything is a version of that. I’m also able to concentrate, to really hyperfocus. I’ve got one of those slightly odd brains, possibly because I learned to concentrate out of fear.
“Doing your utter best meant being okay. There was very much a discipline of being in the present moment and being connected to your senses, which is massively helpful as an actor.”

My natural taste is for film, says Ralph Fiennes

OHMYGOSSIP — Ralph Fiennes has never been approached to star in a long-form TV show.
The 61-year-old actor has enjoyed a hugely successful career on stage and screen, and Ralph feels he has a “natural taste” for film.
He told The Times newspaper: “I can’t think of a time I’ve been approached [to appear in a long-form TV show].”
Ralph also confessed to feeling frustrated by the TV industry.
The acclaimed actor explained: “Things are just extended when they don’t have to be. So a show can have great performances, writing, camera, but it’s sort of dead, bubbling along, like somebody’s keeping it on simmer for ever for, I sometimes wonder, non-creative elements that might make viewing figures go up.
“I watched a TV series recently that was well-received and I just thought, ‘Why is it so long?’ It seemed so odd. My natural taste is for film.”
Ralph explained that he still loves the experience of “being immersed” in a film for a couple of hours.
The award-winning actor cited ‘High Noon’, the 1952 Western movie, as the “perfect film”, observing that it’s “beautifully acted and composed”.
He shared: “I just love the classic format of the movie. That is 90 minutes, 120 minutes.
“People ask what my favourite film is and if there’s one that sums up a succinctness, accessibility and carries a sort of fable, it is ‘High Noon’. It’s just the perfect film. Everyone relates to it. It’s a myth. It’s beautifully acted and composed.
“It’s a personal thing, isn’t it? But I just love that experience of being immersed for a couple of hours – where there’s a total arc.”

Cher recalls finding fame after hotel eviction

OHMYGOSSIP — Cher found fame in the UK after being kicked out of a London hotel.
The 78-year-old icon and her ex-husband, Sonny Bono, visited the UK for the first time in the mid-1960s, having already enjoyed some success in the US, and Cher feels that a confrontation with a hotel employee actually catapulted her to stardom.
In ‘Cher: The Memoir’ – excerpts of which have been serialised in the Daily Mail newspaper – she explains: “Staring at us over the rim of his spectacles, the man behind the desk at the London Hilton gazed at my striped bell-bottoms and my husband Sonny’s ruffled shirt and caveman-style fur vest as if he had an unpleasant smell under his nose.
“‘I’m sorry, sir,’ he said. ‘We don’t have any reservations in that name and our hotel is completely full.’
“As he walked away, Sonny leaned over to look at the leather-bound register and found our names entered in ink.
“The man returned. ‘As I explained, Mr Bono, the hotel is full.’ He was so dismissive and arrogant, I could have cried.”
Despite this, Cher now considers the incident to be a turning point in her career.
The chart-topping star – who was married to Sonny between 1964 and 1975 – explained: “As far as I was concerned, no one in England even knew what Sonny and Cher was, but by the time we reached the Hilton’s revolving doors, escorted in person by the manager, there were two reporters standing outside.
“‘Sonny, Cher, did the Hilton just kick you out?’ they asked. ‘Was it because of how you look?’
“Too exhausted to speak, I let Sonny handle everything. When the journalists had what they wanted, he hailed a taxi to take us to another hotel where the bed was lumpy, there was no TV and water trickled out of the shower.
“We slept for 12 hours straight and by the time we’d bathed and dressed, we were famous.”

The TV star – who has Camden, 12, Phoenix, seven, and Brooklyn, nine, with Vanessa – told PEOPLE: “Sometimes you have to be deliberate. You have to make deliberate attempts because the spontaneity, the romance, whatever you want to call it that existed pre-kids, it just can’t exist the same way.
“And I would argue that it shouldn’t exist the same way because your priority should be your kid, but you have to also make time to prioritise each other. And if you lose sight of that and lose track of that, then I think that’s when you can get into some trouble.”

James Van Der Beek had vasectomy after birth of sixth child

OHMYGOSSIP — James Van Der Beek had a vasectomy after the birth of his sixth child.
The ‘Dawson’s Creek’ actor has Olivia, 14, Joshua, 12, Annabel, ten, Emilia, eight, Gwen, six, and Jeremiah, three, with wife Kimberly but admitted they never planned to have such a large family, so he underwent surgery a few years ago to ensure he didn’t get his spouse pregnant again.
Kimberly told People magazine: “Well, we love having kids, but we didn’t really plan it out. It just happened. We had one planned child.”
James – who recently revealed he has been diagnosed with colorectal cancer – added: “One! Out of six. One was 100% on purpose. The one thing we really sucked at was not getting pregnant.
“But thank God, honestly, because it’s such a struggle for people, and we really don’t take it for granted. I joke, and I laugh, but like, yeah, we really just kind of got lucky that way.
“I figured the only way we’re going to stop this is if we have some medical intervention.”
The 47-year-old star recalled talking to his kids after the operation and some funny words of sympathy he was given from daughter Gwen.
He said: “I said listen, guys, you know Daddy has some surgery on his private parts, so just be really careful when you run up to me not to bump into anything.
“And my youngest daughter looked me straight in the eye and said, ‘Daddy, I hope your vagina feels better.’
“I was like, ‘Is she taking a shot at me?’ ”
Kimberly insisted: “Oh, it’s a compliment.”
Following the ‘Varsity Blues’ actor’s diagnosis, he and his wife are determined to find the “beauty” in every day.
Kimberly said: “We’ve had five miscarriages. Two of them were late-term, near-death experiences. We’ve weathered a lot of storms together.
“This has been a really difficult year, but there’s been this underlying way that we savour life differently. It feels like we understand what real true presence is, what savoring life feels like, finding the beauty in all of it.”

“Today is a day I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. Two babies (a movie and a little girl) all at one time and I truly couldn’t be happier I won’t be able to be at the Wicked Premiere tonight with all of you… There was a change of plans at about 4am this morning.
“Instead my wife and I will be welcoming our fifth child into our family and no we will not be naming her Galphaba.”
Jon went on to send a message of support to the “insanely talented” people involved with making the movie.
He added: “Send all the love to our insanely talented cast and crew tonight. They deserve it and send a little extra welcome to my little girl bursting her bubble and coming into our world any moment now.
“If she can even have a fraction of the bravery that my wife, @cynthiaerivo @arianagrande @michelleyeoh_official or @marissa_edob has then she too will defy gravity one day.(sic)”
The ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ filmmaker then shared a photo of his premiere suit still in its garment back.

“She could come any day now. It’s going to be a little daughter.”

Laura Dern told Liam Hemsworth a” her secrets’

OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Dern has told Liam Hemsworth “all [her] secrets”.
The 57-year-old actress stars with the Australian hunk in new movie ‘Lonely Planet’ – which was filmed in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco – and though they’d never met before they started shooting, they developed an instant connection.
She told Britain’s HELLO! Magazine: “[The location] felt so foreign, untamed and new to me – another reason I felt so grateful to have this connection with Liam.
“I held on to him for dear life. But we had so much fun exploring…
“I am a great admirer of his work, but going into this, we’d never met. We had to start at zero.
“But from the moment we met, it felt special. I felt I’d known him forever and I think Liam felt the same.
“We hit it off in a way that really doesn’t happen very often.
“I felt safe with him. I felt as though I could share anything with him and I did – we both did.
“He knows all my secrets.”
At 34, Liam is 23 years younger than Laura but she insisted that hasn’t made a difference to their friendship.
She said: “It’s just not relevant and I love how it’s not even mentioned in the film.
“This isn’t a story about an older woman and a younger man. It’s just two people finding comfort together from whatever situations they’re coming out of.”
When she’s going through a tough time, the ‘Big Little Lies’ star – who has children Ellery, 23, and Jaya, 19, with ex-husband Ben Harper – looks for things that “ground” her, such as companionship from her dog.
Asked how she handles the harder times, she said: “I play with my dog. Nothing makes me happier than spending time with dogs and being around nature.
“Meditation also works. I find anything that grounds you and helps you reconnect like that is a blessing in those times.”

Alesha Dixon’s kids can ‘do anything’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alesha Dixon wants to push her kids to dream big.
The ‘Lipstick’ hitmaker – who has daughters Azura, 11, and five-year-old Anaya with husband Azuka Ononye – was encouraged by her parents to “follow [her] passions” and she’s built on that with her own children by opening them up to new ideas.
She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I remember growing up, my mum always told me to do whatever makes me happy and to follow my passions.
“My dad was very nervous about me stepping into the creative industries and would have preferred me to be an accountant or a lawyer -in his opinion, a more sensible job.
“I understand where that fear comes from, but I think this generation now, how we talk to our kids, is almost like, you can do anything.
“When our children sit down and play a computer game, for example, we’re the kind of parents who say, ‘You know, you can create the computer games that you play’ and try to open their minds up to think outside the box.
“It’s about telling your kids, ‘You can be anything – you’re capable of anything.’ “
When she has some time off, Alesha loves to “hang out” with her brood.
She said: “I like to just hang out with my family on down days.
“I’ll have a nice glass of red wine and watch a good show.
“Or I like to dance and go out to party, it depends what mood I’m in.
“But generally, anything that involves music and the people I love most is what I do to take time for myself.”
