Sam Neill ‘really didn’t like’ living in Los Angeles

OHMYGOSSIP — Sam Neill “really didn’t like” living in Los Angeles.
The ‘Jurassic Park’ actor – who has son Tim, 41, with Lisa Harrow, and Elena, 33, with ex-wife Noriko Watanabe – briefly stayed in California in the early days of his career but found it “boring” as people only wanted to talk about their work in the entertainment industry and he didn’t think it was a good place to raise his family.
Explaining why he didn’t want to live in Hollywood, Sam – whose home is in New Zealand, where he was raised – told The Guardian newspaper: “A number of reasons. One was, I didn’t want to bring up my children in LA. I didn’t think that would be good for them.
“And I didn’t love LA. I really didn’t like living there. We went there for a year and a half and I wasn’t happy. There was nothing but show business. No other conversations, no other interests. It bores the s*** out of me.
“That’s why my life now is half performance and half rural. I farm, I grow wine, and that keeps me sane. If I was only doing one, I’d go absolutely nuts.”
Despite his lengthy career, the 76-year-old star doesn’t see himself as a “celebrity” because he is able to go about his everyday life unrecognised.
He said: “Being a celebrity and being an actor are two separate jobs.
“I would rate myself as a reasonably successful film and television actor. I don’t rate myself as a film star.
“I can go to Starbucks, no one bugs me. I tell them my name! They don’t know me.
“I’ve got friends who are really famous and I wouldn’t have their lives for anything.”
But while he is content with life in New Zealand now, Sam admitted he didn’t think he had much chance of realising his dreams when he was younger because the island only had around five actors making a living and most of that was in radio plays.
He said: “The idea of having a career in film at all was completely unrealistic. And it was film that interested me.”

Blake Lively feels ‘guilty’ for working

OHMYGOSSIP — Blake Lively feels “guilty” about working.
The 36-year-old actress – who has daughters James, nine, Inez, seven, and Betty, four, and son Olin, 17 months, with husband Ryan Reynolds – was grateful for the bond she struck up with Jenny Slate while filming ‘It Ends With Us’ because they had so many shared experiences and views on balancing their work and family life.
Blake gushed to ‘Entertainment Tonight’: “I love Jenny so much, and she was such an anchor for me in so many ways.
“She’s just full of love and light, but she’s also deeply grounded.
“We both really love our personal lives a lot, and love our jobs.
“We love our work and we take it very very seriously, and we work very, very, very hard, and we completely immerse ourselves in our work — but who we are is defined by our personal life so much more than our work, and we can be both of those things at once.
“When you’re working, sometimes you feel guilty for, you know, not being in your personal life in those hours you’re at work.
“Just knowing that someone was having that same experience was very grounding.”
Jenny – who has three-year-old Ida with husband Ben Shattuck – is “so grateful” to have the ‘Gossip Girl’ star in her life now.
She said: “I deeply fell in love with her. Obviously, I have admired Blake for so long… [she’s] so fresh, so detail oriented, so prepared — knowing, like, what page on the script things occurred on.
“She’d be like, ‘Well, I see that, but she doesn’t really find this out until page 96…’
“[She’s a] deeply trustworthy person who is also willing to share. We had long talks. I was never expecting to have the off-set experience that I had.
“I was really eager to work with Blake, but to really make a friend and someone who is so capable in so many ways – like, just like a genuine winner… I’m just so grateful for this sweet person.”

Jake Roche was ‘blown to smithereens’ when music career collapsed

OHMYGOSSIP — Jake Roche was blown to “smithereens” when his music career collapsed.
The 31-year-old singer/actor shot to fame as the frontman of pop group Rixton – later known as Push Baby – after being signed by Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun but their promising career came to an abrupt end and Jake hit rock bottom.
Jake told The Times newspaper: “It’s your classic story of a teen pop star who gets it all and loses it all … [I had] an existential crisis at the end of my twenties … ”
He explained the band’s deal in America fell apart, he broke up with his pop star girlfriend Jesy Nelson and was taken in by Ed Sheeran before moving back in with his mum Coleen Nolan and applying for benefits.
Jake went on: “The saddest thing was I was clinging on, trying to convince my friends and family that I was just taking a break. But the truth is that my calendar was blocked out every single day from the age of 18 until 23, 24 – and then just nothing.
“I’d never experienced failure in my whole life. Every audition I would go to I would get. It blew me to smithereens …
“I broke up with Jesy and moved into Ed Sheeran’s house … I think he [Ed] just was just like, ‘I’m a bit worried about this dude.’ A lot of people go to a beach in Thailand and drop acid – I just happened to do it in Ed Sheeran’s back garden … ”
Jake – whose dad is actor Shane Richie – knows he is lucky to come from a family with enough resources to support him when he was struggled and feels some “guilt” about his privileged circumstances.
He added: “I’m hyper-aware that a lot of people who sign up for it [benefits] don’t have the safety nets that I have … It’s only recently that I’ve started getting the guilt: ‘Oh s***, should I be here?’ … [I] was only able to get good [at singing and acting] because of the privilege”.

House of the Dragon star Ewan Mitchell refuses to watch Game of Thrones

OHMYGOSSIP — Ewan Mitchell won’t watch or read ‘Game of Thrones’ until his time on ‘House of the Dragon’ is over.
The 27-year-old actor portrays Prince Aemond Targayen in the spin-off prequel series, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s book ‘Fire and Blood’, and was determined not to have his performance impacted by the original fantasy drama series or the novels it was adapted from.
He told The Times newspaper’s Saturday Review: “I didn’t want it to influence me whether it be subconsciously or consciously… I’ll get around to watching it.”
To get into character, Ewan has listened to Metallica and Slipknot.
He noted: “Aemond’s straight out of heavy metal.”
And the actor often keeps on his character’s eyepatch in between takes “because over the course of a couple of hours you develop a headache”, which he feels has helped with his performance.
He explained: “[It helps to suggest] a volcano that’s boiling underneath the surface”.
Showrunner Ryan Condal has been taken aback by the ‘Salburn’ actor’s intensity on camera.
Ewan said: “I sometimes forget to blink. I need to just chill out a little bit.”
And his inspirations for the role include Michael Fassbender’s android in ‘Prometheus’, Kirk Douglas’ swashbuckler in ‘The Vikings’ and horror villains such as ‘Halloween’s Michael Myers.
He said: “That’s the message that Aemond wants to give off: that he has you in his sights and you won’t be able to escape him.”
The show has seemed to be setting up for a brutal confrontation between Aemond and his uncle, Prince Daemon Targaryen, who is played by Matt Smith, and Ewan suggested he and the former ‘Doctor Who’ star should stay avoid one another on set as a result.
He said: “In the same way that Aemond keeps Daemon on that podium, I wanted to keep Matt Smith on that podium.
“Our stories are very much contained and we shot in different studio spaces, so we never really brushed shoulders.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus finds it ‘weird’ to see on-screen ageing

OHMYGOSSIP — Julia Louis-Dreyfus finds it “weird” to see herself getting older on screen.
The 63-year-old actress finds it “jarring” to look back on old episodes of ‘Seinfeld’, in which she played Elaine Benes, when she was in her 20s, but despite the physical changes in her appearance, she still feels “young”.
She told Sunday Times Culture magazine: “It is a weird thing to watch yourself age on camera, like when I see old clips of ‘Seinfeld’ and I was — Jesus Christ, was I in my twenties? Yeah, I guess so.
“Anyway, it’s jarring for sure. So I know I’m older, but I feel young. I’m not going to play the 25-year-old ingenue, but I never did play those roles, so it’s fine.”
Julia was the only woman in ‘Seinfeld’ and it was largely written by men, but she never felt out of her depth on set.
She said: “Yeah, it was very male, but that felt familiar to me so I knew how to navigate it.
“When I started out in showbusiness in the 1980s, there was no awareness about trying to … I was going to say diversify, as if adding women is a diversification, but it is. But now there is awareness, and that’s a good thing.”
The former ‘Veep’ star has never been afraid of playing unlikeable characters, including her latest role as Zora, a mother in denial about her daughter’s illness, in ‘Tuesday’.
She said: “God, no. I base my career on it. Fallibility is always good for drama or comedy. And with Tuesday, to have that kind of conflict is phenomenal for storytelling.”
Current US presidential hopeful, Vice President Kamala Harris, has been compared to Julia’s character in ‘Veep’, Selina Meyer, and the actress admitted she is planning to be “extra involved” in the politician’s election campaign.
And asked if she will be attending the Democratic National Convention in Chicago later this month, she said: “I probably will be, yes.”

Machine Gun Kelly ‘misrepresented’ his estranged mom

OHMYGOSSIP — Machine Gun Kelly “misrepresented” his estranged mother during the early days of his career.
The 34-year-old rapper/musician opened up about being abandoned by his parent as a child in songs such as 2019’s ‘Burning Memories’ in which he accused her of walking out on her family to take up with another man and they were not in touch for many years until they reconciled in 2021 and he’s now admitted he didn’t know her side of the story.
During an appearance on Bunnie XO’s ‘Dumb Blonde’ podcast, he explained: “I would like to say for the record I love my mom dearly and I misrepresented her a lot early in my career.
“And not misrepresented in the sense of not speaking truth. I was speaking my truth, but I didn’t give the masses the chance to understand her truth. And I wasn’t in contact with her to understand her truth. And there was plenty of things that I was mad at her about because it was like your fight has to be stronger.”
He went on to add that he just wanted his mom to come find him, adding: “Like you gotta get to me, you gotta Liam Neeson this s***. Come find me no matter what it takes.”
In ‘Burning Memories’, the star wrote of his estranged parent: “How’d you leave your only child at nine for another dude?/ All the years that you ignore me left me sleepless in the bed/ I hope daddy got some kids because your only son is dead/ I spent 20 years waiting on the stairs/ Now I’m finished thinking anyone’ll ever hear these prayers.”
After getting back in touch in 2021, MGK introduced his mother to the public by posting a picture of them together on Instagram in 2022. He captioned it: “Introducing … my mom.”
The star – whose real name is Colson Baker – was raised by his dad after his mom left when he was a child. His dad died in 2020 and MGK admitted he had “never felt a pain this deep” as he mourned the loss.

Peter Andre fears kids’ images will be hijacked by AI

OHMYGOSSIP — Peter Andre fears images of his children will be hijacked by AI.
The 51-year-old pop star has declared he will never show the faces of his younger kids – Amelia, 10, Theo, seven, and Arabella, four months, with wife Emily – on social media and he has now revealed he worries about how pictures will be used in the future amid the rise of artificial intelligence technology.
In his column for OK! magazine, he wrote: “Like Millie and Theo, it’s unlikely Emily and I will show her face on social media. AI, for example, can be a scary thing in regard to stealing children’s identity and we don’t know enough about how these images can be used in future.
“This didn’t even seem possible when my older two were young. It seems that the last two or three years has taken AI to a different level –and not always in a good way. That aside, Emily has always made it clear she doesn’t want their faces shown and I respect that. I just get excited and want to show everyone how cute they are.”
As well as his three youngest kids with wife Emily, Peter is also dad to teenagers Princess, 17, and Junior, 19, with his ex-wife Katie Price.
Peter and Emily welcomed their youngest, Arabella, earlier this year and he recently insisted he won’t be having any more kids.
The singer told The Sun newspaper: “This time we’re pretty sure it’s going to be our last one. Well, never say never. I’m not 100 per cent, but I’m enjoying having time to bond with her.
“I’ve not really had that chance before with the others because of work, so I’m grateful for how this has turned out.”

Eve Hewson booted out of family band

OHMYGOSSIP — Eve Hewson was “kicked out” of her family band.
The ‘Behind Her Eyes’ star and her siblings Jordan, 35, Elijah, 24, and John, 23, all moved back in with their parents, U2 frontman Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, in Dublin during the COVID-19 pandemic and used to pass the time in their dad’s recording studio, but the 33-year-old actress’ “enthusiasm” proved to be too much.
She told the new issue of Net-a-Porter’s Porter magazine: “We have a studio at the end of [my parents’] garden, where [we] usually end up, in the middle of the night, writing stupid songs. I actually got kicked out of the family band, for being too enthusiastic.
“One evening, I noticed they were all in the studio together. I came in, I grabbed a bass, I started slapping the bass. And they said, ‘You gotta go. This isn’t our vibe’.”
But the ‘One’ hitmaker didn’t join in with the sessions.
Asked if he was part of the band, Eve said: “No! He was asleep by 10pm every night.”
While she’s a successful actress now, Eve initially wanted to follow in Bono’s footsteps and pursue a music career.
She said: “I thought I was going to be Charli XCX.”
The ‘Bad Sisters’ actress tries to pay little attention to comments about being a nepo baby.
She said: “The only thing you can do is crack a joke and move on.”
Eve admitted she has “absolutely” been treated inappropriately in Hollywood and thinks it is still a common occurrance, but there is now more scope for women to speak out about what they have been subjected to.
She said: “What has changed is that you’re allowed to now say that you had a bad experience. Before it was, ‘Be grateful, don’t complain, this is what it’s like if you want to be a star.’
“At least now, even if people want to or not, they kind of have to respond, or they get cancelled. It gives us power.”

Camila Alves has new nickname for Matthew McConaughey thanks to Ryan Reynolds

OHMYGOSSIP — Matthew McConaughey’s wife is planning to call him “hunk of heaven” from now on.
The 54-year-old actor has a surprise cameo in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ and after movie lead Ryan Reynolds gave him a new nickname as he thanked his pal for “showing up” for him in the film, Camila Alves joked she’ll be adopting the moniker in their household.
Ryan had shared a photo of Matthew holding a pistol while dressed as Cowboy Deadpool in the film and wrote on his Instagram Story: “At its best, this business is an actual community and showing up for each other is a great example of that. Huge thanks to this gorgeous hunk of Heaven @officialmcconaughey.
“Not only do he and @camillamcconaughey make the one and only @pantalonestequila. But he also delves into the less exciting world of acting from time to time.”
Camila – who has Levi, 16, Vida, 14, and Livingston, 11, with Matthew – then shared the post on her own account and quipped: “ ‘Hunk of Heaven’ will now be my nickname for him @vancityreynolds.
“We can thank you when child #4 arrives.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ actor recently explained how he and Camila had sat down for a lengthy discussion with their eldest son before allowing him to set up social media accounts when he turned 15.
The Oscar-winner told the ‘Today’ show about their chat: “Let’s talk about what it is. Let’s talk about the upfalls. Let’s talk about the downfalls. Let’s talk about the assets. Let’s talk about the traps.
“Let’s talk about what you wanna tell. What’s your story? Because what happens a lot of times with young people and social media is they wake up in the morning and the first thing on their mind is, ‘What will be a good post?’ Instead of, ‘What do I want to do today?’”
The ‘Lincoln Lawyer’ actor also warned youngsters should pay more attention to their own lives before rushing to share everything on social platforms, and admitted Levi is still learning the ins and outs of the online world.
He said: “I mean, we’re still taking baby steps into, you know, how much he’s immediately in touch with it – what he’s exporting.
“And we’re going through, we’re measuring, we’re discussing things.
“We had him look at a lot of other people that he looked up to, their posts.
“We talked: ‘Why do you like those?’
“And then you saw certain people that had maybe more hits, and you go, ‘But why did they? Were they relevant for the right reasons? Were they relevant for reasons that actually spoke to being more of themselves, rather than acting like somebody else?’
“The discussion is ongoing.”

Blake ultimately hopes that her beauty brand will “earn people’s respect”.
The actress said: “I didn’t want to use Lively because I didn’t want people to think that I was just trying to cash in a celebrity brand. I wanted it to stand for itself.

Hunter began to love her curves after attending therapy sessions.
She shared: “The first thing I learned in therapy is what our bodies can do for us.
“Hating your body – and I have to be careful with saying this – but that’s the biggest money-maker … The more you hate yourself, the more that you find things to nitpick, the more money people are making off you.”
Hunter “had to work on [herself]” before she was able to love her body.
Despite this, the model acknowledges that she still has “bad days” from time to time.
Hunter – who has appeared on the cover of the Sports illustrated Swimsuit issue – explained: “I still very much believe that sexy comes in all sizes. But I had to work on myself first.
