Kevin Costner has become accustomed to ‘dismissive’ attitudes

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Costner is used to “dismissive” attitudes about his work.
The 69-year-old actor’s self-financed Western movie ‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1’ was panned by critics when it was released in June but he pointed out that he has been underestimated by outsiders for years and expects his film to stand the test of time.
Kevin told E! News: “I’ve faced life with people being dismissive of me. But they can’t be dismissive of ‘Horizon’, because now it’s out of their hands. And they might point to the finish line – well, this is what it did at the box office – but I know that this movie is going to play for the next 50 years.”
The Oscar-winning star explained that his acclaimed 1989 movie ‘Field of Dreams’ was predicted to make little impact but is still “celebrated” over 30 years on from its release.
Kevin said: “It was so dismissive, that ‘Field of Dreams’ would fade immediately.
“And we’re still doing celebrations of it. Men and women, sons and daughters, it’s stood the time of decades, now generations—and that’s how I try to make movies. That’s what I see for ‘Horizon’.”
‘Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2’ was pulled from its August cinematic release after the disappointing response to the first movie but Kevin won’t be giving up on the project easily.
He said: “I don’t really fall out of love with something I feel strongly about.
“Until somebody convinces me otherwise it needs to go in another direction, that doesn’t happen.
“I feel like my job is to bring something original to people. And it’s really hard to make a good Western.”

Naomi Ackie was at breaking point after Whitney Houston biopic portrayal

OHMYGOSSIP — Naomi Ackie pushed herself to the limit with her portrayal of Whitney Houston in ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’.
The 31-year-old actress played the late music icon in the 2022 biopic and admits that it changed the way she worked as she was left exhausted by the part.
In an interview with The Observer newspaper, Naomi said: “That role pushed me to the edge, to the point where I was like, I have to change something otherwise I will shrink within this job, within this body, within the world.
“I was away from home, isolated in Boston for like seven months, and hungry – I lost about 30lb to get to the shape of Whitney.
“I lost a lot of myself, and not because of the art of it. It was to do with me feeling under pressure and trying to not be hated by the world – I was a catastrophic thinker, thinking I was never going to work again.”
Naomi earned critical acclaim for her depiction of the ‘How Will I Know’ hitmaker but confessed that it left her at “rockbottom” and led to a rethink of her work-life balance.
She said: “It got me to such a rockbottom that it was a wake-up call. A job cannot mean so much that it steals my life’s joy. I was like, we’re gonna need to fix some priorities.”
Naomi recalled how she wanted to be an actress as a youngster in order to be “famous” but was urged to take the craft seriously by her mother.
The ‘Blink Twice’ star said: “When I was younger, I was more attached to the idea of being famous. I wanted to be the best actor so I could go on a red carpet and do premieres – or be in ‘Harry Potter’.
“Mum was like, ‘Why would you want to be famous? You should be an actor if you want to act.’ She was very keen that I do it because I love it, that I study it, and that I become a master of a craft, but never aim for being a star for being a star’s sake.”

Tom Cruise performs epic abseiling stunt to close Paris Olympics

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise abseiled down into the State de France during the closing ceremony at the Paris Olympics.
The ‘Mission: Impossible’ actor performed one of his trademark stunts at Sunday’s (11.08.24) ceremony as he slid 115-feet down a rope from the venue’s roof as part of the handover to Los Angeles for the 2028 Games.
Tom was seen greeting athletes present at the ceremony before landing and taking the Olympic flag away on a motorbike.
A pre-recorded segment then showed the ‘Top Gun’ star carrying the flag back to the US on a plane before he draped it over the Hollywood sign.
A report from TMZ earlier this month revealed that the Los Angeles element of the stunt was filmed in March and insiders admitted they had expected the Hollywood star to be spotted and the information to be leaked beforehand.
Cruise is said to have been the driving force behind the spectacle and approached the International Olympic Committee (IOC) himself about doing a series of stunts to bring the Paris and Los Angeles Games together.
Meanwhile, the ceremony also featured performances from H.E.R., Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Billie Eilish as well as Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre – with the ‘Fight For You’ hitmaker singing US national anthem ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ in the stadium and the latter quartet performing from Venice Beach in LA.
The event also marked a celebration of the past fortnight of sporting action in Paris and IOC president Thomas Bach quipped that the Olympics had been “Seine-sational”.
He said: “The Olympic Games Paris 2024 were a celebration of the athletes and sport at its best. The first Olympic Games delivered fully under our Olympic Agenda reforms: younger, more urban, more inclusive, more sustainable. The first ever Olympic Games with full gender parity.
“These were sensational Olympic Games from start to finish – or dare I say: SEINE-sational Olympic Games.
“The Olympic Games Paris 2024 were Olympic Games of a new era.”

Ariana Grande plans 2025 stadium gigs

OHMYGOSSIP — Ariana Grande is planning to play a series of stadium shows in 2025.
The 31-year-old singer is said to be preparing for a host of gigs across the globe – including her first performances at UK stadiums – as she goes on the road for the first time since her Sweetener World Tour back in 2019.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Ariana really wants to get out there and perform for her fans but at the same time she hates life on the road.
“It may sound glamorous touring the world but in reality it can be draining and you don’t actually get to see much of the world.
“Right now plans are in their early stages but Ariana is determined to play a series of shows in 2025.”
The insider added: “One option that’s on the table is to do a handful of stadium gigs – that way tens of thousands of her supporters can see her without her having to do night after night after night at smaller arenas.
“She’s never done UK stadium shows before. If she does it almost certainly would be at Wembley and then the Etihad up in Manchester.”
Ariana is starring as Glinda The Good Witch in the two-part movie adaptation of the musical ‘Wicked’ and explained that she was hoping to play some gigs between the release of the films in November 2024 and 2025 respectively.
The ‘Yes, And?’ hitmaker said: “I think it’d be a really lovely idea to be able to trickle in some shows in between the two Wicked films. I think there is a version of that which exists.”

The former Saturday singer took to Instagram on Sunday (11.08.24) to reveal that she and her fiancé, former England cricketer Stuart Broad, are going to welcome a sibling for their 19-month-old daughter Annabella.
Mollie captioned her post – which featured Stuart kissing her baby bump with Annabella sat atop his shoulders: “Our baby girl is going to become a big sister. We can’t wait to meet you, little one!”
The 37-year-old star previously described how being a mother to Annabella was her “proudest achievement” and that parenthood had transformed her life.
Mollie told Arcadia magazine last year: “Annabella is my proudest achievement.
“I just feel like I’ve learned so much from her, she’s just changed my world.
“I feel like I’ve got a new best friend. So I feel like everything I do is for her and her future.
“It’s so exciting to look into the future and just see her just being the main part of our life really.”
Mollie has been engaged to Stuart since 2021 and explained recently that she hopes to marry the retired sports star in an intimate ceremony “in the next couple of years”.
The BBC Radio 1 presenter told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “We got engaged during the COVID-19 pandemic and then Annabella came into our lives, so it’s been hard to make that the main focus.
“But we do talk about it all the time and I hope we will do it in the next couple of years.
“We’re keen for it to be really small – our family and best friends – and we want it to feel like a celebration of love.
“We want to have our daughter there and to celebrate how lucky we feel to have found each other and to have created a little family that we absolutely adore.”

Taylor Swift has ‘presidential level security’ ahead of London shows

OHMYGOSSIP — Taylor Swift’s security presence has reportedly been stepped up to “presidential levels” ahead of her London shows.
The singer is due to perform five nights at Wembley Stadium in the UK capital between 15 and 20 August marking her return to the stage for the first time since police in Austria foiled a plan to attack her concerts at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna – and a new report suggests her security has been stepped up to levels usually reserved for U.S presidents.
A source told The Sun newspaper the singer now has “presidential level” security around her. An insider added: “Taylor’s security and of those around her has always been paramount, but even more so now.
“She and her dancers were told to ‘go to ground for their own safety’ in light of the Vienna threat. That’s why nothing has been said about the cancelled shows beyond the promoter’s statement.”
There will be increased security at the Wembley shows with the newspaper reporting a dry run of the new system took place at the stadium for the Charity Shield football match on Saturday (10.08.24) while fans without tickets have also been asked not to gather outside the venue to listen to the gig.
Taylor’s concerts in Vienna were cancelled after the threat was detected and a statement from London’s Metropolitan Police assured fans there’s nothing to indicate the Wembley shows will be targeted.
The statement – obtained by PEOPLE – read: “There’s nothing to indicate that the matters being investigated by the Austrian authorities will have an impact on upcoming events here in London.
[The city hosts)]a significant number of very high profile events each year with millions of visitors having a safe and enjoyable experience.”
Officials explained that they will be working closely with security teams and “other partners” to ensure that the appropriate safety measures are in place for the much-anticipated gigs. The police force added: “As always, we will continue to keep any new information under careful review.”

The 35-year-old singer has revealed she was a “really heavy child” and her actor dad tried to help her shed the pounds by sending her away to attend special weight loss treatment programme – and she got in trouble when she suffered an injury which hampered her efforts to slim down.
During an appearance on Bunnie Xo’s ‘Dumb Blonde’ podcast, Elle explained: “I was, like, a really, really heavy child. My dad sent me to fat camp. And then I got in trouble one year because I sprained my ankle and I didn’t lose any weight. Very toxic and very silly.”
She went on to open up about her difficult relationship with her actor father admitting they went “four or five years without talking”.
Elle added: “I disagree with a lot of the things that he says. You’re talking out of your a** and you’re talking s*** about drag and, you know, anti-gay rights …
“He’s just talking out of his a** and I want to use this opportunity to say that I disagree. I do not agree with what he says.”
Elle’s dad and her mum London King divorced in 1990 and she was raised by her mum and step-dad in Ohio. The singer had a strained relationship with ‘The Waterboy’ star as a child and only reconnected with him as an adult.

Scarface star Angel Salazar dead at 68

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Scarface’ actor Angel Salazar has died aged 68.
The star’s representative, Ann Wingsong, confirmed to TMZ that he “passed away in his sleep” at a friend’s place in Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday morning (11.08.24), after being discovered by his pal.
A cause of death is not known at the time of writing.
Salazar famously portrayed Chi Chi alongside Al Pacino’s Tony Montana in the 1983 gangster classic ‘Scarface’.
He also had movie roles in 1980’s ‘Where the Buffalo Roam’, 1982’s ‘A Stranger is Watching’, 1984’s ‘The Wild Life’, 1985’s ‘Sylvester’, 1988’s ‘Punchline’ and 1993’s ‘Carlito’s Way’.
More recently, he was in 2022’s ‘The Black Caesar’ and 2023’s ‘The Gilbert Diaries: The Movie’.
As well as acting, Salazar was a hit comedian known for the catchphrase “Sheck it out!”
The funnyman was known for NBC series ‘Last Comic Standing’ and his last comedic performance was at Reno’s Silver Legacy resort and casino between August 1 and 4.
Salazar was active on social media and had only recently congratulated gymnast Simone Biles, 27, for her triumph at the Paris Olympics.
He wrote on Instagram: “You Did It Simone, You Come Back BIGGER than Ever…America Is Proud Of You…For You Made America Look Good.”
Meanwhile, in 2020, Luca Guadagnino teased that his new ‘Scarface’ movie is an “amazing project” – but there has been no more news since on the film.
When asked if the adaptation would be his next flick, Luca told Collider: “I think the project is amazing. I have a great producer in Dylan Clark and a great studio in Universal, so if the gods of cinema want that, I’m in.”
Luca also praised the quality of the screenplay, which has been written by the Coen brothers.
He said: “It’s a great script. We’re working on that, yes.”
Guadagnino’s movie, should it see the light of day, will be the third time ‘Scarface’ after the 1932 original and the famous 1983 remake, and he insisted it will be a “worthy reflection” on the character and the time we live in now.
The filmmaker explained: “The first ‘Scarface’ from Howard Hawkes was all about the prohibition era. Fifty years later, Oliver Stone and Brian De Palma make their version, which is so different from the Hawkes film. Both can stand on the shelf as two wonderful pieces of sculpture.
“Hopefully ours, forty-plus years later, will be another worthy reflection on a character who is a paradigm for our own compulsions for excess and ambition. I think my version will be very timely.”

Nick Cave felt ‘disgracefully self-indulgent’ after death of his sons

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Cave felt “disgracefully self-indulgent” following the death of his two sons.
The 66-year-old rocker lost his son Arthur, 15, in 2015, when the teenager fell from a cliff near the family home in Brighton and he suffered further grief seven years later when his son Jethro, 31, died and Nick has now admitted he spent years wrapped up in his own ego and the double tragedy made him see the “folly” of his ways.
During an appearance on ‘Australian Story’, he explained: “For most of my life I was just sort of in awe of my own genius … I had an office and I would sit there and write every day and whatever else happened in my life was peripheral. Even annoyances. Because I was involved in this great work …
And this just collapsed completely and I I just sort of saw the folly of that … disgraceful sort of self-indulgence of the whole thing.”
He went on to insist he now gives priority to his role as a husband and father rather than being a musician.
Nick – who is also dad to sons Luke and Earl – added: “My priorities changed. You know, I still work all the time, I still go on tour, I still p*** everyone off because I’m making a new record or I’m depressed because I can’t write songs. The same things still apply but that idea that art trounces everything, it just doesn’t apply to me anymore.
“I’m a father and a husband and a … person of the world. These things are much more important to me than the concept of being an artist.”
The Bad Seeds star added of his grief: “We eventually absorb, or rearrange ourselves, so that we become creatures of loss as we get older; this is part of our fundamental fabric of what we are as human beings.
“This is not a tragic element to our lives but rather a deepening element and that brings incredible meaning into our life. I’ve found that personally, and I think a lot of other people have found that, provided you can remain open.”

Katie Price is ‘finally happy’ after latest face lift

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Price is “finally happy” with her looks after going under the knife for another face lift.
The 46-year-old former glamour model jetted out to Turkey earlier this month to undergo surgery on her face – believed to be her sixth facelift in recent years – and she’s now taken off the bandages and insisted she’s thrilled with the results.
In a post on Instagram, she wrote: “I must say a week after undergoing facial correction … I’m so extremely happy with the results, literally no bruising and swelling almost gone. Pricey is happy finally.”
While Katie was in Turkey for the surgery, an arrest warrant was issued for her after she missed a court date in London related to her recent bankruptcy proceedings.
She was detained by police at Heathrow Airport on Thursday (08.08.24) as she made her return to the UK and appeared at the Royal Courts of Justice on Friday (09.08.24).
Katie was ordered to return to court on August 27 to face further questions over her finances with Deputy Insolvency and Companies Court Judge Daniel Schaffer warning her: “These are undertakings to the court, meaning if you breach the undertakings in any way, shape or form, you will be brought back into custody.
“It is quite a serious matter. You have to attend that date, no ifs or buts, no going abroad, no holidays.”
Katie confirmed she must attend and added: “I will move my diary for it.”
The TV star was declared bankrupt in 2019 over her spiralling debts and she went through the process again in March over an unpaid tax bill of more than £750,000.
In a statement posted on Instagram prior to her arrest, Katie insisted she was actually in Turkey for work and admitted she felt like she was being “treated like a criminal”.
Katie wrote: “I was never just abroad being ignorant to what’s going on and I stand by the facts, which is that there has been miscommunications here between a number of people here to do with my bankcruptcy.
“However now I am returning home from work, and I am aware that I am about to be detained at the airport which is obviously what the courts feel is necessary … Whilst I understand the importance and severity of the matter I do feel like I am being treated like a criminal.
“I would like to point out once again that this is to do with a very unfortunate financial circumstance which as hard as it has been does not make a criminal or a bad person.”

Drake saves football club from bankruptcy

OHMYGOSSIP — Drake stepped in to help save Italian football club Venezia FC from bankruptcy.
The musician’s pal Matte Babel convinced the star to get involved ahead of the 2023-2024 season after it was revealed the Serie A side needed to raise $40 million to avoid falling into financial ruin and possibly being demoted to a lower league – and the star helped rally investors so the money was raised within two weeks.
Babel told GQ Italia: “I got a call from Brad Katsuyama, co-owner of Venezia and a good friend of mine. He laid out the problem to me in a simple way: Venezia has to raise €10 million in a couple of weeks, and then at least €30 million in a few months, or the club will go bankrupt …
“Venice is an incredible city and Venezia has always been a special club. I spoke to Drake, then Brad and I discussed the details of how we could help. Within two weeks we had a deal, raised the money needed to pay the salaries and avoid bankruptcy.”
Venezia FC co-owner Brad Katsuyama added: “Drake’s value to any football club is undeniable, given his scale as a global superstar and the reach of his brand. This intersection of culture and sport is exactly where we want to be.”
As well as helping raise the investment money, Drake also got his Nocta fashion line involved by designing the team’s new kits. The new apparel goes on sale next month.
The team is now financially stable and after the investment, they were able to win the Serie B promotion playoff into Serie A.
There are now plans to build the team a new stadium and an indoor area which are slated to open for the start of the 2027 season.
