Will Mellor wants his kids to ‘feel independent’ when it comes to learning about money and bills

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Mellor wants his kids to “feel independent” when it comes to learning about money and bills.
The 48-year-old actor – who has Jayden, 20, and 16-year-old Renee with his wife Michelle McSween – has teamed up with Smart Energy GB so he can “better understand” how certain little swaps in his life can preserve energy use so has had a smart meter installed so they can learn about efficiency.
He said: “Like most families, we find our monthly bills can be quite high and as the kids get older, this isn’t likely to change anytime soon. By working with Smart Energy GB, we wanted to better understand where we could make small changes to our routine to help reduce our energy usage.
“The kids love to feel independent and we try to provide them with tools that can make their life easier moving forward. Having a smart meter is just one example of this. After having one installed, we all have a better understanding of our energy usage, household bills and where we can be more energy efficient. It has made a big change overall.”
A survey from the energy company found that 31% of teenagers say they are now having shorter showers to save energy, while almost a fifth (18%) always use the washing machine at a lower temperature.
What’s more, nearly a quarter (24%) of teenagers even encourage their parents to actively keep a watch on their smart meter’s in home display, and 39% nudge them to not leave appliances on for longer than necessary.
Victoria Bacon, Director at Smart Energy GB comments “Homes can feel a little busier over summer with children returning home from university and schools and colleges closing, which can be a worry for the people paying the bills. But our research shows younger generations are really keen to waste less energy and embrace more energy efficient habits in the home, and these ‘greenagers’ are actually encouraging the whole family to do the same. Small, actionable changes can add up to making a real difference. Paired with getting a smart meter, which offers a whole range of benefits – including access to more flexible energy tariffs – families can feel more in control of their energy use and household bills, not only during summer but all-year round.”

Freddie Flintoff cried ‘every two minutes’ after 2022 Top Gear crash

OHMYGOSSIP — Freddie Flintoff cried “every two minutes” after his horror ‘Top Gear’ crash.
The 46-year-old TV star stepped away from the spotlight after sustaining facial injuries and broken ribs in the 2022 accident, which ultimately led to ‘Top Gear’ being shelved, and he has broken his silence in an emotional docuseries.
Speaking on his second instalment of the BBC series ‘Freddie Flintoff: Field Of Dreams on Tour’, he said: “Week and a half after my accident. Genuinely should not be here after what happened. This is going to be a long road back and I have only just started and I am struggling already. I need help. I really am not the best at asking for it. I need to stop crying every two minutes.”
The former international cricketer – who had a similar, near-fatal smash in 2006 – struggled to “shake it off” and was afraid to leave his home, but he bravely took young cricket hopefuls from Preston on a tour in India, just months later.
He said: “I thought I could just shake it off. I wanted to shake it off and say ‘here I am, I’m alright’. But it’s not been a case of that, it’s been a lot harder than I thought. As much as I wanted to go out and do things, I have just not been able to.
“All the way through this when I was in hospital, I was thinking ‘right it’s March I was aiming towards March’ and then September I was aiming towards that. It’s always been a little bit unachievable. I think about it all the time [going to India]. I think about going, how good it’ll be. I rewind and I am thinking ‘I am not leaving the house either’. We have got to get on a plane and be away for two and a half weeks.”
Flintoff’s mental health also suffered with the star suffering “nightmares” and “flashbacks”.
He went on: “But some of those lads have had a tough life, you’ve got to put it into perspective. I feel guilty. I can’t do that. I don’t want to sit here and feel sorry for myself. I don’t want sympathy, but it’s going from being in here for seven months really and then going to India for two and a half weeks.
“Everywhere I go at the minute I have got a full face mask and glasses. I can’t do that. I struggle with anxiety, I have nightmares, I have flashbacks. It has been so hard to cope with. But I’m thinking, if I don’t do something I’ll never do owt. I’ve got to get on with it.”
The second series of ‘Freddie Flintoff: Field Of Dreams on Tour’ is set to start on BBC One from August 14.

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon making Hulk Hogan movie with Good Will Hunting director

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are reuniting with Gus Van Sant for their Hulk Hogan film.
The long time friends will join forces with the ‘Good Will Hunting’ director for their upcoming movie about the controversial WWE Hall of Fame wrestler.
‘Killing Gawker’ will follow the 70-year-old star’s infamous $140 million legal battle against Gawker, which saw him win a lawsuit over the magazine’s publication of a sex tape featuring him.
The jury found that the magazine violated Hogan’s privacy by posting the video, and after the ruling, Gawker shut down.
It relaunched in July 2021 with a short lived revival until February 2023.
Affleck and Damon’s film is officially in active development, according to Variety, with Van Sant at the helm and Charles Randolph handling the screenplay.
The project – which is being mad eunder the actor’s Artists Equity production banner – is based on Ryan Holiday’s book ‘Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker and the Anatomy of Intrigue’.
There have been rumours that Affleck will play Hogan himself in the movie, but no casting has been confirmed as of yet.
Meanwhile, no formal start date of production schedule have been revealed.
Affleck and Damon most recently teamed up on Amazon film ‘Air’, with the former directing and co-starring in last year’s film with Damon playing Nike employee Sonny Vaccaro.
The biographical film followed Vaccaro’s decision to set up a deal with then-NBA rookie Michael Jorgad during a tough time for the shoe company.
Hogan was previously set to be the subject of another biopic with Chris Hemsworth in the lead role and ‘Joker’ director Todd Phillips leading the charge, but after several years work is still yet to get underway.
However, the actor previously told Screen Rant: “To work with Todd Phillips, who we discussed making that film with, would be an honor and a fantastic opportunity.
“I can’t say it’s officially happening yet. If there was a green light, I’d get to work on it.”

Henry Cavill inhaled cigar smoke for entire Deadpool and Wolverine shoot

OHMYGOSSIP — Henry Cavill has been praised by ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ director Shawn Levy for his commitment to his cameo after the actor inhaled cigar smoke for “eight hours straight”.
The ‘Superman’ star appears as one of the versions of Hugh Jackman’s ‘X-Men’ superhero Wolverine in the Marvel blockbuster, and the 41-year-old star was left “sick to the stomach” after keeping a cigar “lit and in his mouth” all day for the shoot.
Levy told The New York Times: “[He] not only had that pumped-up muscular body but kept that cigar lit and in his mouth for the entirety of the shoot day.
“I remember hearing the next day that Henry was sick to his stomach because he had been inhaling cigar smoke for eight hours straight, but never once did he waver.”
The 56-year-old filmmaker confessed they intentionally wanted to mock rival superhero franchise DC after they replaced Cavill in the role of Superman.
He said: “It was not long after everything went down with DC and word came that Henry was being replaced as Superman.
“Given that Deadpool is in constant conversation with culture, it felt like a great opportunity to first of all cast Henry Cavill in a part that he would kick a** at, but also to poke fun at that other comic-book-founded movie studio and play with some self-awareness there.”
David Corenswet, 31, is portraying Clark Kent / Superman in James Gunn’s 2025 ‘Superman’ flick.

Jonah Hauer-King is joining Doctor Who

OHMYGOSSIP — Jonah Hauer-King is joining the cast of ‘Doctor Who’.
‘The Little Mermaid’ star is confirmed to be joining the 15th series of the BBC sci-fi series after Millie Gibson – who plays Ruby Sunday, the companion of the current actor behind the titular character Ncuti Gatwa, 31 – dropped a hint about his “interesting” role.
The 20-year-old actress told Collider: “It’s the rare case where you see the companion after The Doctor. It’s never been explored before, and I think it’s such a beautiful and clever thing to do.
“Can you imagine traveling the world with The Doctor and then seeing how they cope with it after when your life just goes back to normal?
“It was the weirdest feeling. But yeah, I’m joined by the beautiful Jonah Hauer-King on her journey. He’s a very, very interesting character, and he makes the show even more magical. So, I’m very excited to see what he’s like.”
In April, Jonah revealed how he got prepared for the role of the real-life Lali Sokolov – who tattooed numbers on inmates of the concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau – by paying “respects” to the victims of the Nazi death camp while working on ‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’.
The 29-year-old actor told The Guardian newspaper: “The first thing I did was go back to Auschwitz, to pay my respects and approach it as an adult but also to approach it more in the context of the story we were telling.”
Jonah admitted that he knew the heavy subject material would “be quite draining”.
He said: “It was always going to be quite draining. In any other context, it can be quite an innocuous thing to do – it’s sort of just a haircut but knowing why they shaved people’s heads, why they wanted to dehumanise people and take away their identity … Having been something I was quite matter-of-fact about, when I actually came to do it and saw myself in the mirror, it was so poignant. I wasn’t expecting that.”

“I never travelled on public transport because I was paranoid about being recognised, but I got back from the race and went straight on the Tube.
“I get buses and trains everywhere now, and it’s so liberating.”
Kelly revealed she was keen to do the show with her husband Jeremy Parisi, 39, because they are constantly “looking for a new adventure”.
She said: “I think Jeremy and I were looking for a new adventure to go on together and we love to travel. And this just seemed like the dream to get to the airport and not know where you’re going. That is like a dream, to go to the airport, be given a plane ticket and just go.”
The former glamour model enthused about getting have oodles of “quality time” with her man – who she tied the knot in with in Italy in 2022 – and how it brought it back to her youth.
Kelly said: “I think to have that quality time together and not be just having those kinds of boring conversations, like “Who’s walking the dog? ‘What should we have for dinner tonight?’ To going ‘Should we get on this bus or that bus?’ ‘Or should you do that job or this job?’
“It’s checking out of normal life and just living this parallel life of two backpackers. This was something we probably would have done if we were teenagers, but we never had that experience. So, we get to experience it together. So yes, it’s amazing.”

ITV defends Good Morning Britain interview with Ed Balls and wife Yvette Cooper

OHMYGOSSIP — ITV has defended allowing Ed Balls to interview his wife Yvette Cooper on ‘Good Morning Britain’.
The broadcaster has come under fire after the former Labour cabinet minister – who is now a regular presenter on the ITV breakfast show – grilled his own wife on Monday’s (05.08.24) episode in her role as the home secretary.
A spokesperson for ‘GMB’ said: “Following a weekend of rioting and national unrest, GMB featured a range of interviews and discussion around this national emergency on today’s programme which included James Cleverly, shadow home secretary, and Yvette Cooper, home secretary.
“We are satisfied that these interviews were balanced, fair and duly impartial.”
During the interview, Ed asked his wife about the riots across the UK and asked what the police, government and social media sites should be doing.
He said: “Can I ask, because we’ve talked about this a few times in the last few days – like many of our viewers will have done at home since those terrible killings in Southport – there have been identifiable individuals on social media who have been inciting not just riots but violence.
“They’ve been using racist language and falsehoods. This is happening on the social media platforms.
“What should be done by the social media companies and the police and the government to stop this happening? It’s been happening for a week.”
She replied: “Well you’re right, Ed. We have seen things appearing online that are clearly criminal.
“Social media has put rocket boosters under far-right extremist organisations and also some of the violence we have seen. Things that are criminal offline are also criminal online.”
Ofcom has recently examined the issue of politicians hosting current affair programme after a debate over Nigel Farage’s appearances on GB News during the general election campaign.
The regulator has ruled that while the British public is “instinctively uncomfortable” with the practice, there wasn’t a “clear consensus for an outright ban”.

Zendaya and Robert Pattinson in talks for The Drama

OHMYGOSSIP — Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are being eyed to star in ‘The Drama’.
The ‘Dune: Part Two’ actress, 27, and ‘The Batman’ star, 38, are in negotiations to lead the cast of director Kristoffer Borgli’s upcoming A24 flick, in which he will be directing from a script he wrote.
The movie – which will be produced by Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen and Tyler Campellone through Square Peg – marks the second time Borgli will be working with A24, having first collaborated with the studio for his Nicolas Cage-starring comedy ‘Dream Scenario’.
While plot details about the film are being kept under wraps, ‘The Drama’ is rumoured to be about a romance that takes a surprising turn before a couple’s big day.
Recently, Zendaya could be seen in ‘Challengers’, where she starred as the tennis prodigy-turned-coach Tashi Donaldson.
Although she was happy to take the role, the ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ actress admitted she was “incredibly nervous” about being able to convincingly play the part because her racket skills were so limited.
Speaking to Britain’s HELLO! magazine, she said: “I had no idea about tennis. I knew nothing. All I really knew of tennis was Venus and Serena [Williams].
“It was terrifying as a challenge to take on because you know you’re supposed to be a great tennis player and I’ve never been a great tennis player.
“I was incredibly nervous just showing up. I was driving myself crazy trying to become a player.
“I remember when I first started hitting the ball, it would go off into the trees. It was never even close to the court. I was like, ‘Damn, I’ve got a long way to go.’
“It’s not a game you can just pick up right away. Unless you’ve been playing it since you were four, it’s just not happening for you.”
The actress eventually got comfortable by utilising her dance background to view the court moves as choreography she needed to master.
She explained: “I said to myself, ‘I’m a dancer, so let me dance this thing out’, and I began to focus on that.
“That became my entry into looking like a tennis player because I knew I wasn’t going to be one, but I could really fake it.”

Shawn Levy: Taylor Swift was never going to cameo in Deadpool and Wolverine

OHMYGOSSIP — Shawn Levy has confirmed that Taylor Swift was never going to appear in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’.
Rumours that the 34-year-old pop sensation would cameo in the Marvel flick began to circulate in the months leading up to the film’s release, but the director has now insisted the story of Swift’s involvement in the project “came out of nowhere”.
In an interview with Variety, he said: “That was one of the loudest rumors that came out of nowhere. It was never true. Thank you, internet, for building such a smokescreen of rumors and half-truths so that no one ever knew what was going to happen.”
While the ‘Shake it Off’ singer didn’t end up appearing in the movie, Swift’s best friend – and Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds’ wife – Blake Lively cameoed as Ladypool, though kept her mask on for all her scenes.
When Levy was quizzed on whether Lively, 36, could play the character in another flick, the filmmaker revealed “there’s always a future”, but emphasised ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ didn’t act as a “setup to anything”.
He explained: “We never discussed taking off her mask. So there’s always the future … It’s definitely not a promise.
“We also wanted this to be a standalone movie that leaves everything possible but serves no next movie. It is not a setup to anything, so we’ll see what happens.”
As well as the ‘It Ends With Us’ star’s appearance, fans were overjoyed to see Channing Tatum as Gambit – a role the 44-year-old actor had been in the running for when Fox owned the X-Men I.P.
Reflecting on Tatum’s role in the movie, Levy said it was “deeply satisfying” to see the actor finally suit up as the superhero.
The director said: “I am obsessed with Channing as Gambit in this movie. What went into this, first and foremost, is a decade of Channing wanting to play this part and a decade of Channing almost playing this part at Fox.
“I know this personally because back in those years, I was one of 25 different directors who met with Channing about directing the Fox ‘Gambit’ movie, and yet it never quite happened.
“So when we decided to have Gambit in this movie, we knew it would be deeply gratifying for Channing.”

The trio of contestants were confirmed on Vernon Kay’s BBC Radio 2 show on Tuesday (06.08.24), joining previously announced stars JB Gill from JLS and comedian Chris McCausland.
Singer Wynne – who is known for his role as Gio Compario in the Go.compare insurance adverts – is nervous about joining the BBC’s Latin and ballroom competition, but he’s “taking inspiration” from comedian Bill Bailey, who won in 2020.
He’s most excited for the “classic ballroom” routines given his love for opera, but he told Vernon: “The stuff I’m really nervous about is the stuff that requires a bit of jumping.
“I represent every portly middle aged father out there… I’m kind of a bit nervous about that, but I’m taking inspiration from Bill Bailey. He was brilliant on it, so that’s my inspiration.”
In a statement, he added he was “honestly still pinching myself”, saying: “What I do know is I will give it my all and aim to make Wales proud. I’m definitely going to try and combine my love of Opera into one of my routines.
“Plus, after winning Celebrity MasterChef last year, maybe the route to the judges’ hearts will be through their stomachs!”
Meanwhile, Toyah also appeared on Vernon’s show and admitted she is “super excited” for the show, noting that “music makes [her] want to dance”.
Reflecting on keeping her ‘Strictly’ booking a secret, the ‘It’s A Mystery’ hitmaker revealed she has been desperate to shout it out from stages across the country.

Dr Punam Krishan, who appears on ‘BBC Morning Live’ and works as a GP, was the third name announced on Vernon’s show.
She admitted she’s stunned to be taking part, saying: “I can’t believe this is happening to somebody like me, it feels mad!”
She’s most excited for the “sexy” Paso Doble, noting while it’ll be a challenge, she loves watching the routine each year as a fan.
She added: “I think [it] would be really challenging, but it’s the one I look forward to watching the most every year.”

Joey Essex and Jessy Potts weren’t in Love Island ‘to win it’

OHMYGOSSIP — Joey Essex and Jessy Potts didn’t go on ‘Love Island’ “to win it”.
The former ‘The Only Way Is Essex’ star, 34, has fallen head over heels with the 25-year-old beauty after meeting in the villa, and he has opened up on the truth behind their blossoming romance.
He told OK! magazine: “We took our time, had fun and enjoyed each other’s company.
“We weren’t jumping to make decisions because the next bombshell was coming, or because it was Casa Amor, we did things our way.
“We played it correctly. We weren’t in it to win it. We just wanted to be together.”
Jessy insisted they “weren’t rushing into anything just because it was a TV show”.
She added: “I feel like we have a genuine connection. We know how we both feel.”
Joey agreed, and dismissed people being sceptical of their feelings, or the future of their relationship.
He said: “If anyone focused on just me and Jessy as a couple, and not all the other drama, you’d see we were very genuine in the villa.
“From the minute I met Jessy, I never looked any other way. There were no red flags with each other. We were tested the most out of everyone, but we came through it.”
Now that they have moved on from the reality show, the couple are glad to be in the real world and moving on with their romance without the whole country watching.
She explained: “I feel much more confident being out of the villa and completely separate from it now.”
While Joey added: “We’re very relaxed and laid back. We’re actually having fun and enjoying yourselves. We can be us now.
“Even coming back on the plane, we were laughing the whole time.”

David Morrissey and Aimee Lou Wood couldn’t stop laughing filming Daddy Issues

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Daddy Issues’ co-stars David Morrissey and Aimee Lou Wood couldn’t stop laughing during filming.
The ‘Sense and Sensibility’ star loved working with the ‘Sex Education’ actress – whose work he had admired before they met professionally – but found it “tough” because they would get a horrific case of the giggles while filming the new BBC Three comedy, which focuses on Malcolm, a father getting to know his adult daughter Gemma.
The 60-year-old actor said: “Well I knew her work but she’s just wonderful, she’s SO funny. One of the big problems we have working together is that we make each other laugh, so that’s always tough at times, but I think she’s a huge talent.
“I saw her at the theatre in ‘Uncle Vayna’ as well as in ‘Sex Education’ and I just think she’s got such breadth and honesty and truthfulness in her performances, and she’s a wonderful person.
“We get on very well and that’s essential as ‘Daddy Issues’ is a relationship comedy which is brilliantly written by Danielle, but we had the freedom to improvise and play around which is really important. We have a great ease with each other and there’s some very awkward situations that we get ourselves into so its really important that you have an ease around the person you’re working with.”
Aimee described working with David – who has three adult kids Albie, Anna, and Gene with Esther Freud, the novelist and daughter of Lucien Freud – as “heaven” as she also reflected on their on-set chuckling.
The 29-year-old star said: “Heaven. Honestly I just love him and I hope he’s in my life forever. On set we had really great chats but we’re also really good at sitting next to each other and just existing.
“We don’t even have to speak, we can just listen to music, sing along to it and just be and I think that’s where Gemma and Malcolm get to as well. They get to a place where they are just existing alongside each other.
“They are living their lives knowing they have each other and that is really beautiful. It doesn’t always have to be a deep chat, it can just be that you feel safe and comfortable enough to just sit in silence with each other which is great and rare.”

Ryan Reynolds demands ‘Logan-like send-off’ for Wesley Snipes’ Blade after Deadpool cameo

OHMYGOSSIP — Ryan Reynolds thinks Wesley Snipes’ Blade should get a “‘Logan’-like send-off” movie.
After a 20-year hiatus from the character, the 62-year-old actor reprised his role as the vampire slayer in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, and now Reynolds thinks his co-star should get a legacy sequel in the style of ‘Logan’ – which closed the book on Hugh Jackman’s Fox iteration of Wolverine.
On X, the 47-year-old actor penned: “There is no Fox Marvel Universe or MCU [Marvel Cinematic Universe] without ‘Blade’ first creating a market. He’s Marvel Daddy. Please retweet for a ‘Logan’-like send-off.”
While he gladly suited up again as his iconic superhero for the recent Marvel blockbuster, Snipes – who had previously worked with Reynolds on 2004’s ‘Blade: Trinity’ – admitted he “did not think it was possible” he could return as the character after Mahershala Ali landed the role in 2019.
He told Entertainment Weekly: “I didn’t think we would be able to pull it off. I didn’t think that Marvel was into it, Disney was into it — also because they had Mahershala cast for the next upcoming version of it.
“I thought it didn’t make sense to me, but [when] you get a call from Ryan Reynolds out of the blue after 20 years, you go, ‘Okay, I got to take this call. Let’s see what this is about.’ He told me the idea … They said ,’yes’ and, ‘it’s a go.’ ‘If you’re in, we’re in.’ Here we are.”
The ‘Coming 2 America’ star also conceded he initially didn’t feel “really” to play the character again due to his age, though was happy to find his role wouldn’t be too physically demanding.
