Awkwafina gives disappointing Shang-Chi 2 update

OHMYGOSSIP — Awkwafina hasn’t heard anything about a sequel to ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’.
The 36-year-old actress starred alongside Simu Liu in the 2021 Marvel flick, though has now revealed the studio is yet to approach her with plans for a follow-up.
When Comicbook.com asked the ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ star if she had had any updates about a potential sequel, she said: “I have not. I haven’t [heard anything].”
Although she had no news about a follow-up film, Awkwafina emphasised she enjoyed watching Marvel’s announcements at San Diego Comic-Con last month as the studio revealed its plans for the future of the franchise – including Robert Downey Jr. returning to the series as Dr. Doom.
She added: “Those were exciting announcements at Comic-Con.”
At the event, Downey Jr. – who famously played Iron Man from the 2008 eponymous film until the character’s death in 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’ – was brought on-stage dressed as Dr. Doom to reveal he would be playing the villain in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.
The presentation also saw studio boss Kevin Feige confirm Joe and Anthony Russo would be helming both flicks, bringing the directed duo’s number of projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) up to six after they worked on the two ‘Captain America’ sequels and the two previous ‘Avengers’ installments.
During the event, the pair said they were happy to get back in their director’s chairs after spending five years away from the franchise.
Anthony gushed: “That four-movie run was incredible. And it left us really spent, with all of our emotions on the floor. In the time since, through a very special story, Joe and I have come to potentially see a road forward with you all.”
Speaking about ‘Secret Wars’ specifically, Joe added: “It’s the biggest story that Marvel Comics ever told, it’s the first comic book run that I read as a kid that made me fall in love with comics. It’s the reason why Ant and I are standing up here.”

Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern to front You Bet! reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern are to host a reboot of ‘You Bet!’.
The former ‘This Morning’ presenter is reuniting with her ‘Dancing On Ice’ co-host for a reboot of the popular 90s game show – which previously ran for nine years and was fronted by the likes of the late Sir Bruce Forsyth, Matthew Kelly, and Darren Day – and the pair are “so excited” to be working together again.
The programme sees celebrities betting on members of the public as they take on various challenges.
Holly said: “I’m so excited to be part of this iconic game show with the fabulous Stephen.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the astonishing skills on show from the challengers and which of our celebrity panellists can come out on top.”
Stephen added: “I loved ‘You Bet!’ as a kid, so I’m very excited to be hosting this with the wonderful Holly.
“From the big and spectacular to the unique and unexpected, I can’t wait to see what extraordinary skills the challengers have up their sleeves.”
The presenters signed contracts last month and will host two special shows later this year.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Holly is one of ITV’s top presenters and she deemed the perfect person to front ‘You Bet!’.
“Her partnership with Stephen on ‘Dancing On Ice’ earlier this year proved they have perfect chemistry and bosses wanted them back on screen.
“This version of ‘You Bet!’ will be in the form of two 75-minute specials but the premise is the same.
“A panel of celebrities and the studio audience will predict if the contestants can complete the challenges they are tasked with.
“If the challengers prove the celebs and audience wrong and they do complete the challenge, they get a £10,000 prize. If the celebrity correctly bets they can or can’t, they will be handed £10,000 to give to a charity of their choice.
“It is wholesome family fun and with Holly at the helm with Stephen, ITV think they are onto a ratings winner.”
ITV bosses are delighted to keep Holly within their “family” after she recently signed a major deal with Netflix to host ‘The Bear Hunt’ with Bear Grylls.
A source said: “ITV love Holly and they have a great relationship.
“She is hugely popular with their audience and is a face their viewers can trust.
“Having her on board and remaining as part of ITV’s family is a coup for them and they cannot wait for You Bet! to air.”

Henry Cavill ‘sick to his stomach’ after shooting Deadpool and Wolverine cameo

OHMYGOSSIP — Henry Cavill was left “sick to his stomach” after filming his ‘Deadpool + Wolverine’ cameo.
The 41-year-old actor made an appearance in the star-studded blockbuster as a Wolverine variant encountered by Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and director Shawn Levy has praised the star for being so committed to the project, he willingly kept smoking a cigar for his whole day of shooting, despite how it made him feel.
Shawn told The New York Times newspaper: “[He] not only had that pumped-up muscular body but kept that cigar lit and in his mouth for the entirety of the shoot day.
“I remember hearing the next day that Henry was sick to his stomach because he had been inhaling cigar smoke for eight hours straight, but never once did he waver.”
Shawn also noted one reason why he and Ryan were keen to get Henry on board was to reference the 2022 announcement that he wouldn’t be returning as Superman in the rebooted DC universe, with it later revealed David Corenswet would be taking on the role.
The director said: “In the case of Henry, it was not long after everything went down with DC and word came that Henry was being replaced as Superman.
“Given that Deadpool is in constant conversation with culture, it felt like a great opportunity to first of all cast Henry Cavill in a part that he would kick ass at, but also to poke fun at that other comic-book-founded movie studio and play with some self-awareness there.”
Meanwhile, after years of trying to get his ‘Gambit’ movie off the ground, Channing Tatum was “visibly emotional” every day on set as he finally got the chance to play the character.
Shawn said: “Channing was visibly emotional every day on set. Sometimes it was in the form of smiling euphoria and sometimes it was tearful gratitude, but I’ve never seen an actor more grateful to be on set than Channing Tatum.
“I was one of several dozen directors who interviewed to direct the ‘Gambit’ movie over a decade ago, and the first time Ryan and I pitched Kevin Feige [the Marvel Studios president] the idea, we had to explain it a bit because this isn’t a capstone to legacy: This is a zig when all the other characters were zagging.
“It also gave an opportunity to cut against the grain of the other characters, because Gambit’s experience is diametrically different than all the other legends.”

Patricia Arquette, Michael Sheen and more joined Kenneth Branagh thriller

OHMYGOSSIP — Patricia Arquette, Michael Sheen and Vicky McClure have been cast in ‘The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde’.
The trio have joined the ensemble for Sir Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming psychosocial thriller, which stars ‘Killing Eve’ actress Jodie Comer with production already getting underway in the UK.
As reported by Deadline, Arquette, Sheen and McClure have been added to the cast alongside Tom Bateman, Michael Balogun, Kristina Tonteri-Young and Karla Crome.
Also set to appear are Aiysha Hart and Gemma Whelan.
Plot details are yet to be revealed for the film, which has been penned by ‘Oppenheimer’ actor Branagh, who will also be serving as director.
There was said to be excitement in the industry when it was revealed that Branagh’s latest movie was ready to go after the success of his 2021 coming-of-age film ‘Belfast’.
That movie saw him take home the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, while the casting of Comer has only added to the anticipation for the picture.
It’s a busy time for Comer, who has been cast alongside Hugh Jackman in ‘The Death Of Robin Hood’.
The film is being directed by Michael Sarnoski and has been billed as a dark take on the classic tale of Robin Hood with the titular character fighting with his past after a life of crime and murder.
Production is set to begin in February 2025 with Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett both set to produce for the Ryder Picture Company (RPC) alongside Alexander Black for Lyrical Media – who are fully financing the flick.
Sarnoski said in a statement earlier this year: “It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood.
“Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential.
“I could not be more thrilled and trusting in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way.”

The comedians and TV presenters will battle it out on a one off edition of the BBC’s revival of the classic gameshow, with ‘BBC Breakfast’ star Louise Minchin and ‘Ted Lasso’ actress Ellie Taylor completing the lineup.
Comedian Rob said in a statement: “I can’t wait to be absolutely crushed by the Gladiators in front my wife and children in spandex whilst I watch Joel Dommett and his 6 pack sprint past me on the travelator.
“This is going to be a catastrophic humiliation in front of the nation. I’ve got no idea why I agreed to this. Is it too late to pull out?”
‘The Masked Singer’ host Joel joked he has been preparing for this challenge “all his life”.
He added: “I can’t believe I’m taking part in ‘Gladiators’!
“It’s always been my dream to be on that travelator. I’ve been illegally running up escalators backwards all my life in preparation and now it’s happening for real.
“Super excited to be up against all my favourite muscley people in leotards and have some fun!”
The four celebrity contenders will battle the Gladiators before clashing in the iconic Eliminator, and Louise described the show as “terrifying fun”.
She said: “I am so excited to be on ‘Gladiators’, I have watched the show for years and have always thought it looked like terrifying fun and I can’t wait to be part of it!”
While Ellie Taylor quipped: “Me being on Celeb Gladiators is the answer to the question ‘What’s the most elaborate thing you’d do to get your 5-year-old a foam finger?’
“We all love the show in my house and I’m so excited to take part! I can’t wait to get chased by athletic goddesses and ask Viper about his childhood.”
The BBC brought back the beloved show earlier this year with Bradley and Barney Walsh at the helm, and a new cast of Gladiators including the likes of Sabre, Legend, Diamond, Phantom, Fire, Giant and Viper.
More details about the special – including its air date – will be announced “in due course”.

The lineup also features JB Gill from JLS and funnyman Chris McCausland.
The blind comedian quipped: “If anybody out there is thinking – How the hell is he going to do that? – then rest assured that I am thinking exactly the same thing.

The ‘TOWIE’ star is the next name to sign up for the BBC’s Latin and ballroom competition, and he was unveiled just minutes after Tasha Ghouri was confirmed for the upcoming series.

Pete is also close friends with pal Sam’s girlfriend Zara McDermott, who was the first ‘Love Island’ star to compete on the show.
She recently hit headlines after her 2023 ‘Strictly’ dance partner Graziano Di Prima was accused of mistreating her during training.
Graziano was recently axed from the show and shared his “regrets” in a candid post on Instagram, writing: “I deeply regret the events that led to my departure from ‘Strictly’.
“My intense passion and determination to win might have affected my training regime. Respecting the BBC HR process, I understand it’s best for the show that I step away.
“While there are aspects of this story involving external influences that I can’t discuss at this time, I remain committed to being strong for my family and friends.
“I wish the Strictly family and the BBC nothing but success in the future. I also want to thank everyone who has supported my career, both professionally and personally. When the time is right, I will share my story.”
Zara also posted about her experience on the show, writing: “When I was invited to be a contestant on the show it really was a childhood dream come true.
“I fully understood the level of commitment and hard work that ‘Strictly’ was going to be and I dedicated everything to it.
“I am a resilient person and I was fully prepared to put in whatever it took. And so much of my ‘Strictly’ experience was everything I could have dreamt of…
“However, my experience inside the training room was very different. Reports have been made about my treatment on the show and there were witnesses to some events, as well as videos of particular incidents which are incredibly distressing to watch.”

Emma Willis admits to ‘mental switch’ when she turned 45 that left her ‘more tired’ than ever

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Willis had a “switch in mentality” when she hit her mid-forties.
The 48-year-old presenter – who is married to Busted singer Matt Willis, 41, and has Isabelle, 15, Ace, 12, and eight-year-old Trixie with him – admitted that she has begun to feel “more tired” in recent years but has decided to cut sugar out of her diet in a bid to ameliorate her struggles.
She told the new issue of Women’s Health magazine; “Probably from when I turned about 45, I could feel myself changing and getting older and being more tired. That was really a switch in my mentality – when my body suddenly felt ‘mid-40s’ and tired.
“I’ve been quite enjoying going sugar-free. I did it at the beginning of the year for about eight weeks. “My sleep patterns were better, I was less bloated all over, less puffy.”
Meanwhile, Emma and her husband are now hosting ‘Love Is Blind’ for Netflix and they believe that their format is the “complete opposite” of other dating shows like ‘Love Island’ because the end of the competition is marriage rather than a cash prize so contestants have to take it all seriously.
Emma said: “It’s not like Big Brother was, there’s no cash prize. At the end of it is a legal wedding. You can’t enter into it lightly
“You’ve got to genuinely want to be settling down.
“A lot of the cast have something they’re dealing with or obstacles they have had to overcome, and it’s not done in a sob story way.
“We’ve all got something, right? You’ve got to put all your cards on the table and hope you’ve got a . . . what’s a good card analogy?”

He told The Daily Star newspaper’s HOTTV column: “I wanted to take part because the travel element is an absolute privilege, but also to share it with my son and to be able to make those memories.

The father-and-son duo will go on a globetrotting adventure across South America alongside a host of other famous faces, including former ‘Loose Women’ panellist Kelly Brook, who will be teaming up with her husband Jeremy Parisi as they attempt to be the fastest to travel from Brazil to Chile, all without stepping on a plane.

Michael Parkinson was ‘nervous and insecure’ at public events

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Michael Parkinson “felt nervous and insecure” at public events.
The late chat show king – who died “peacefully” in August last year aged 88 – is one of the most iconic TV stars in history but his son Mike, 57, has painted a picture of a more “private man”.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Of course, he had an ego because he was a man who was on TV, but in reality, he was a private man – when he went to public events you could sense he felt nervous and insecure, hiding behind my mum.”
His legendary show was watched by 12 million people at its peak, and while Parkinson “wasn’t always there” as much as his family wanted, he was a different person out of the limelight.
Mike said: “It’s not like he walked downstairs to his theme tune.
“When we were growing up he was super-charged in his career, which meant there were times he wasn’t always there as much as we wanted him to be.
“He wasn’t perfect, he could be distant and was very much of his generation – not as hands-on as we expect dads to be now.”
A year on from his father’s death, Mike admitted his passing “feels unreal”, and his dad’s fame makes it more “difficult” to mourn.
He explained: “It still feels unreal. Anybody who loses someone close probably feels the same.
“But when you lose someone so well known, it’s sometimes difficult because you turn on the TV and there he is – a clip of my dad interviewing someone famous.”
Meanwhile, he revealed that when it came down to it, Parkinson was like any other father.
He added: “He was no different to any other dad that I knew really. What many people didn’t see what that he could be bad tempered, especially if [his football team] Barnsley lost!”

Shawn Levy’s Star Wars film to be a standalone story

OHMYGOSSIP — Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ movie will be a standalone story in the galaxy far, far away.
The ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ director, 56, was confirmed to be working with Lucasfilm on a new entry into the beloved sci-fi franchise in 2022 and has now revealed he is not planning to connect his work to any other films or TV shows in the long-running series.
Speaking on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, he said: “I’ll say that the experience of crafting this story has forced me to think about that question. Because there’s only so many times that ‘Star Wars’ movies can revisit the same section of the timeline, and so it’s really forced me, because I don’t want to do a ‘Star Wars’ movie that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie.”
The filmmaker – who is penning the untitled movie with his ‘The Adam Project’ co-writer Jonathan Tropper – added he was making the flick with “tone and characters” at the forefront.
He said: “I really wanted to craft something that felt organic to me, both in tone and characters, so I think that there is certainly the Force and a connection to something bigger than our individual selves.
“And the way that that can make us powerful, those themes, combined with visual delight and wish fulfillment, that’s ‘Star Wars’ to me.”
Shawn previously described how he wanted the experience of watching ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ to replicate the feeling he had watching the ‘Star Wars’ flick ‘Return of the Jedi’ when he was younger.
He wrote in an essay for Esquire magazine: “I went to the theatre again and again to see ‘Return of the Jedi’.
“I vividly remember the scene in which Luke is hiding from Vader in the Emperor’s room and Vader gives the speech that ends with, ‘If you will not turn to the dark side, then perhaps your sister will.’ It was dead quiet. Pin-drop silence.
“Suddenly Vader has pushed the wrong button. Luke comes screaming out of the shadows and just goes to town in a lightsaber battle against Vader.
“The way that felt: The forty seconds of stillness from the audience, then the spectacle and emotion, is seared not just in my eyeballs but in my heart.”

The 48-year-old actress stars as Mandy Dingle on the ITV1 soap opera ‘Emmerdale’ and while her character is known for her extravagant looks, Lisa prefers a more comfortable style in her day-to-day life but when a fan spotted her in Marks and Spencer, they asked for a selfie and then remarked that she should have been more made up for the outing.
Lisa told Woman’s Weekly: “I was just mooching around minding my own business and this woman asked for a picture and then went, ‘Oh God, you could have put some makeup on!’
“I said, ‘I’m not Mandy Dingle, this is me doing my shopping’, and she said, ‘Yeah, but you know, you look…’ And I finished her sentence and said, ‘What, I look a bit rough?'”
“You’ll mostly find me in leggings, a black vest, hoodie and trainers, one layer of mascara and some moisturiser – that’s when I’m at my happiest.”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ contestant initially played Mandy from 1995 until 2001 and then went on to present ‘You’ve Been Framed!’ before appearing in dramas like ‘Fat Friends’, ‘Waterloo Road’ and ‘Three Girls’.

She said: “Paddy and Mandy bring such joy to the show – you can rely on the fact that they’re going to bring you that sprinkle of fun and I love that. It’s 25 years since they married the first time and I’d like to think that I’ll still be in the show in another 25 years – I absolutely love it.”

Celebs Go Dating star Anna Williamson was asked for relationship advice during childbirth

OHMYGOSSIP — Anna Williamson was “asked for dating advice between contractions” while she was giving birth.
The ‘Celebs Go Dating’ relationship expert – who has son Vincenzo, seven, and daughter Eleanora, four, with husband Alex Di Pasquale – was in the middle of welcoming her youngest child into the world when the nurse picked an awkward time to ask for some help.
Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: “I’ve yet to go to a dentist, doctor or hairdresser’s appointment without imparting dating advice.
“Even when I was giving birth to my second child, I was asked for dating advice between contractions.
“The nurse was half-joking, but I think my polite answer was something like, ‘Come back to me when I’ve managed to get this baby out!’ ”
The 43-year-old TV personality admitted she gets recognised in public thanks to her appearances on the E4 show, but her kids aren’t impressed.
She added: “People do recognise me from the show and love the famous ‘Anne Hug’. Dr Tara calls me the ‘golden retriever’. She says, ‘You’re so warm and cuddly!’
“But like a golden retriever I have a bark. If someone does or says something I believe is wrong, I’m not afraid to speak up.
“But yes, often when I’m out with the family people do come up to chat. My son’s like, ‘Mummy, can you stop talking to everybody.’ ”
Anne revealed she and Alex have a “pretty traditional” approach to parenting, although they do try to balance their respective cultures with a “fun” side for good measure.
She said: “We’re pretty traditional in terms of boundaries, but I hope we’re fun, too. We love to weave in the Italian and English cultures.
“The kids are challenging as hell, but they’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Both have grown up with Mummy doing what Mummy does.
“The penny’s only dropped with Vincenzo that this isn’t what most parents do, and most mummies don’t have mates who also pop up on the telly, like Uncle Paul [Carrick Brunson] and Uncle Tom [Read Wilson].”

Bob Dylan movie A Complete Unknown set for Christmas release in cinemas

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘A Complete Unknown’ is due to hit theatres on Christmas Day.
The movie will see Timothee Chalamet portray music icon Bob Dylan and centres on the singer-songwriter’s controversial switch to electric instruments at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 and has been scheduled for a cinematic release on December 25.
The 28-year-old actor – who will be joined in the cast by Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Boyd Holbrook and Monica Barbaro – was confirmed to be doing his own singing in the movie after lending his vocals to the 2023 musical flick ’Wonka’.
Director James Mangold confirmed that he has been working with Dylan on the project and that the ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ singer had some personal input into the screenplay.
During an appearance on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, the filmmaker said: “I’ve spent several, wonderfully charming, days in his company, just one-on-one, talking to him.
“I have a script that’s personally annotated by him and treasured by me. He loves movies. The first time I sat down with Bob, one of the first things he said to me was, ‘I love ‘Cop Land’.’”
While the picture will cover Dylan’s early years, the ‘Logan’ director emphasised ‘A Complete Unknown’ wasn’t strictly a biopic about the music icon.
He explained: “By the way, it’s not really a Bob Dylan biopic.
“The reason Bob has been so supportive of us making it, is it’s about, as in all cases I think the best true-life movies are never cradle to grave but they’re about a very specific moment.
“In this case, it might sound Altman-esque, but it’s a kind of ensemble piece about this moment in time, the early 60s in New York, and this 17-year-old kid with $16 in his pocket hitchhikes his way to New York to meet Woody Guthrie who is in the hospital and is dying of a nerve disease.”

‘The business that we work in is so touchy-feely’: Jenna Ortega speaks out on Melissa Barrera’s Scream VII firing

OHMYGOSSIP — Jenna Ortega thinks Hollywood has become “so touchy-feely” following Melissa Barrera’s firing from ‘Scream VII’.
The ‘In The Heights’ star was axed from the horror franchise last November after she posted a series of pro-Palestinian comments on social media about the Israel-Hamas War and now Barrera’s 21-year-old co-star – who played her sister Tara Carpenter in 2022’s ‘Scream’ and ‘Scream VI’ – has argued people need to gain a “better sense of conversation” about sensitive subjects.
She told Vanity Fair magazine: “The business that we work in is so touchy-feely. Everybody wants to be politically correct, but I feel like, in doing that, we lose a lot of our humanity and integrity, because it lacks honesty. I wish that we had a better sense of conversation.
“Imagine if everyone could say what they felt and not be judged for it and, if anything, it sparked some sort of debate, not an argument.”
After her comments, production company Spyglass Media denounced Barrera and emphasised that the studio had “zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form”.
The statement read: “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
While Barrera was removed from the horror flick, Ortega also left the project due to scheduling conflicts with the second season of ‘Wednesday’.
Meanwhile, the actress will next be seen in ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, which will see Michael Keaton reprise his role as the troublesome ghost.
Reflecting on the legacy sequel – in which Ortega and Keaton appear alongside Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe – the actress admitted she felt like her “soul left [her] body” when she first saw her co-star dressed as Beetlejuice.
She said: “I remember feeling my soul leave my body for a second. And then in between takes, he’s sitting down and drinking his tea.”
The actress added she hopes to remember the experience of making the flick “for the rest of [her] life”.
She gushed: “Every time I walked onto that set, I wanted to remember it for the rest of my life.”
