Evangeline Lilly felt South of Heaven role was a ‘great liberation

OHMYGOSSIP — Evangeline Lilly thought her role in ‘South of Heaven’ was a “great liberation” from the parts she is usually cast in.
The crime drama tells the story of parolee Jimmy (played by Jason Sudeikis) who – after serving 12 years for armed robbery – vows to give his childhood sweetheart and terminal cancer patient Annie (Lilly) the best year of her life.
Despite the heavy subject matter, the 42-year-old actress admitted that it was “fun” to play because it was so different to her usual kind of role.
She said: “It was it was so fun. And it felt like such a great liberation. Because I didn’t have to play the sort of stoic, capable, heavy, like take control of the situation, bada** chick that often I find myself playing, but instead got to play somebody who was just so totally at ease in her own skin, and completely in love with life in a way that surprises you over and over and over again and continues to surprise the other characters around her to the point where she brings out the humanity in the worst of the men who surround her.”
The star – who has previously starred in big budget movies such as ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ – relished in the chance to star in the independent film, noting that she finds it “freeing” to act in a film with a lower budget than some of the Hollywood blockbusters.
She told HeyUGuys: “The thing that I find that is so freeing about those is, is it’s always about the acting. So everything the whole day is designed around making sure that the performances are everything they need to be because they’re going to carry the film, because they don’t have the budget for the big special effects. They don’t have the budget for the great locations, they don’t have all the bells and whistles. And so really, it comes down to us and we have to make it sing. And and that’s like, it’s a beautiful energy because it all becomes so much more artistic in the space of the acting.”

Jason Momoa cast in Fast and Furious 10

OHMYGOSSIP — Jason Momoa is set to star in ‘Fast and Furious 10’.
The 42-year-old actor will play a villain in the opening chapter of the concluding story of the high-speed franchise, which is slated for release in 2023.
Jason was welcomed to the world of ‘Fast and Furious’ by the series’ official Twitter account, which posted: “The Fast Fam keeps getting bigger. Welcome, Jason Momoa.”
The new movie is being directed by Justin Lin and regular cast members such as Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson are all set to return.
The ‘Fast and Furious’ franchise is set come to an end after the 10th and 11th films and Justin previously confirmed that the final story will be told across two separate movies.
The 50-year-old filmmaker said: “The idea of the last chapter being two films is correct. I have to say, I’m so glad – because I think when I first entered this franchise, a sequel was not a given. You had to earn it, you know?
“And so to be sitting here talking to you and go, ‘Oh yeah, there’s gonna be two more movies!’ I’m like, ‘Wow’. It means a lot.”
Justin believes that the approach will be the best way to end the long-running franchise after deliberating how to conclude the series.
The director – who has helmed five previous movies in the ‘Fast’ series – said: “Every day when I wake up, I’m trying to reconfigure and make sure hopefully whatever we’re talking about process wise is gonna yield the best result. But I think having one chapter in two movies is correct. That’s where I sit today.”

Sue Holderness hasn’t ‘grieved’ for John Challis

OHMYGOSSIP — Sue Holderness has not “grieved” for her ‘Only Fools and Horses’ co-star John Challis.
The 72-year-old star – who played Marlene Boyce in the classic BBC sitcom – admits that she has struggled to come to terms with the death of her on-screen husband John, who played car dealer Boycie and passed away last September aged 79 after a battle with cancer.
Speaking on Friday’s (28.01.22) episode of ‘The One Show’, Sue said: “Double acts you often hear hate each other, John and I became very good friends from the very beginning.
“His wife and my husband, the four of us would go on holiday together, we saw each other regularly. I still speak to Carol every day.”
Sue continued: “It’s very difficult for me to say that I have really gone through the grieving process because I haven’t, I still don’t believe he is gone.
“He feels very much that he is still with us and of course he will be with us, he will be in our lives forever because of the wonderful Boycie that he created.”
Sue added that it is a credit to the comedy’s creator John Sullivan that viewers are still interested in the show over 40 years after it first aired.
She said: “I think that’s what John Sullivan wanted, he had the older generation and kids in mind when he was writing this so everybody, the whole family, were able to sit and watch his shows and laugh.
“I hear all the time that in these really rather gruesome times people are turning to ‘Only Fools’ particularly because it is escapism really, you can forget what is going on outside and it’s huge fun, they say laughter is the best medicine.”

Rachel Stevens embracing skimpy outfits for Dancing on Ice

OHMYGOSSIP — Rachel Stevens is comfortable with wearing skimpy outfits on ‘Dancing on Ice’.
The 43-year-old star will make her debut on the ice in tomorrow’s (30.01.22) show after being denied the chance to perform last week due to injury but is looking forward to showing off her toned physique on the show, where she is partnered with professional skater Brendyn Hatfield.
Rachel told The Sun newspaper: “I really know my body now. I know what suits me and what doesn’t.
“That really helps me going into something like this – and the creative team are so open. They know what works in terms of the show and I know what works in terms of my body.
“It’s just playing with shapes rather than trying to hide or cover anything.”
Rachel explained how the intense training for the ITV skating show has done wonders for her body confidence.
The former S Club 7 singer said: “I definitely feel stronger in my core and more body-aware. I wasn’t really doing any specific workout regime before I took on the show.
“Now I definitely feel more toned. Getting in my costume for the first time I was like, ‘This is so much fun!’ But you’ve also got to feel confident.”
Rachel was a lads’ mags favourite back in the 2000s and was honoured with accolades such as Rear of the Year and The Sexiest Woman Of All Time and has fond memories of the experiences.
The mother-of-two – who shares daughters Amelie, 11, and Minnie, seven, with her husband Alex Bourne – said: “I will absolutely ride off that title for ever. At the time, I remember thinking how fun that was and, ‘I’ll definitely take that’.
“The early Noughties was such a fun moment in time. I was 21, I was growing up and it was lovely to express that side of myself and do photoshoots that were a bit more sensual.
“Now it’s more the case that I still want to feel sexy in my forties. I just want to feel more empowered as I get older. Also, I’m a mum to two girls and I want them to grow up feeling confident too.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Nikolaj Coster-Waldau worked in a restaurant kitchen to prepare for ‘A Taste of Hunger’.
The 51-year-old actor portrays perfectionist chef Carsten in the new movie and he praised restaurateur Rasmus Kofoed for gibing up his time and expertise to help him understand how the business works ahead of filming sarting.
He said: “I spent some time in Copenhagen with Rasmus Kofoed, who runs a restaurant called Geranium. He’s just an incredible chef — he won the Bocuse d’Or in 2011, he’s been a coach for other countries.
“He was very gracious, and he spent a lot of time helping me understand not only the food, but the kind of passion and focus and work ethic that goes into creating something like what he’s created, and what my character wants to create in the movie.
“When I was there, the restaurant was serving lunch, and he asked if I wanted to go into the kitchen. I laughed and said, ‘Great idea, what could possibly go wrong there? But okay.’ He put me in charge of cutting out these little tiny flowers that were decoration, but it was pretty cool because I got to hang out with all these other chefs and just talk to them. He definitely made sure that I couldn’t destroy anything.
“Copenhagen is just very lucky. We have a lot of incredible chefs, and this whole world of eating has just changed so drastically now. Chefs are superstars now, and what they do is art. It has a whole different type of weight.”
Nikolai was fascinated by the subject because he believes cooking is another form of communication.
He told Eater.com: “Cooking is a form of communication. Obviously we need nourishment, but it’s more than that. As an actor, it was really interesting for me because the best chefs in the world are able to turn their food into an extension of their personalities and are able to convey that to the customers.”

OHMYGOSSIP — George Clooney is delighted to be reunited with Julia Roberts in ‘Ticket to Paradise’.
The 60-year-old actor and 54-year-old actress are both starring in the new rom-com as a divorced couple who travel to Bali to stop their daughter from getting married and George insists he is “lucky” to collaborate with his ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ co-star again.
Speaking to Deadline, George said: “The minute I read it I called Julia, and I said, ‘Did you get this?’ and she said, ‘Yeah’, and I said ‘Are you going to do it?’ and she goes ‘Are you going to do it?’ and I said, ‘Yeah, if you do it.’
“So it was just one of those very lucky things.”
The movie has been directed by ‘Mamma Mia!’ director Ol Parker and also stars Kaitlyn Dever and Billie Lourd and George believes the flick is “something special”.
He said: “This guy named Ol Parker is a really wonderful writer and director, and he wrote us a script, and I haven’t done a romantic comedy really since (1996 film) ‘One Fine Day’, and more than that.
“I’ve done some sort of snarky ones, you know, and in this one Julia and I just get to be mean to each other in the funniest way.”
The ‘Up in the Air’ star continued: “It’s going great, man. We’re having the time of our lives.
“Julia is just fantastic in it, and this wonderful actor named Lucas Bravo, who’s just absolutely the funniest thing in the movie, and you know, Billie Lourd and Kaitlyn Dever.
“It’s just a really fun, fun, fun cast all the way around. We’re having a great time.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sally Lindsay has been inspired by Reese Witherspoon as she moves into producing.
The 48-year-old actress is the creative director of Saffron Cherry, which was behind her Channel 5 drama ‘The Madame Blanc Mysteries’ and says that the Hollywood star blazed a trail for her to form a production company.
Speaking on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast, Sally joked: “I wish I had her legs!
“I’m a big big fan of Reese. She’s one of my inspirations actually, her and Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda, all these amazing women that own their own productions.
“And I think that’s always been secretly a dream of mine, inside. It came out when we formed the company three years ago, but to big fruition sort of last year.
“Those women are absolutely trailblazers. We’re standing on the shoulders of those giants, and Reese is just amazing.”
The former ‘Coronation Street’ star feels it was important to have a creative input into her shows as she headed towards being “a woman of a certain age” in the industry.
Sally explained: “I come from a different angle in the fact that I was in fear of getting to an age where if I wasn’t on the list of six actresses, then I wouldn’t be working.
“Which is ridiculous. Because if you’re a man, the list is much bigger. And you can be much older. And you can have a lot younger women next to you, and it’s still the same.
“It really, really annoyed me as a feminist. It really got on me nerves! So I think that was where it came from when we formed the company three years ago.”

Kye Whyte ruled out of Dancing on Ice due to injury

OHMYGOSSIP — Kye Whyte has been forced to pull out of Sunday’s (30.01.21) episode of ‘Dancing on Ice’.
The 22-year-old Olympian will not be taking part in the ITV skating competition’s movie week after suffering a nasty accident during rehearsal.
Kye – who won a silver medal in BMX racing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics – said in a statement: “Its an unfortunate accident. I’ve trained and worked hard with Tippy (Packard, professional partner) to perform this weekend.
“For me, as an athlete, I’m used to stuff like this happening where you get injured and can’t compete. I’m more sad for Tippy, she’s worked hard so not being able to skate is obviously upsetting.
“We both really wanted to do this number, it’s a cool performance and we put a lot of effort into it.
“I was so happy and excited for everyone when they skated last weekend. I was watching and couldn’t wait to skate this Sunday. I’ll be there cheering everyone on!”
Kye sustained a sprain to his knee and medics on the show advised him not to take part in this weekend’s programme.
An ITV spokesperson said: “During rehearsals for this Sunday’s show, Kye fell on the ice and sustained an injury and will therefore not perform in this weekend’s show.”
This year’s show has already been impacted by injury as Rachel Stevens was forced to pull out of her opening performance last weekend.
Happy Mondays star Bez also tested positive for coronavirus after his opening performance although he did not miss any programmes as a result.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jaime Winstone and Michael Owen have been eliminated from ‘The Masked Singer’.
Jaime, 36, left her close pal Rita Ora – who is a judge on the show – completely shocked when she was unmasked as Firework on Saturday (29.01.22), while former soccer star Michael Owen, 42, was revealed as Doughnuts.
Jaime said: “I can’t believe you didn’t guess me Rita.”
She gave some clues to her identity in her VT, saying: “I love to dress up. I do love labels but there’s one that you might know me for most of all. That’s a bit of a riddle and I have been known to rhyme. Thinking that you might guess me, well that’s a very scary thought. But I don’t mind, because I like to be scared. Well now I’m being a proper little horror aren’t I?”
Michael performed Five’s ‘Everybody Get Up’ and compared it to taking a penalty saying he “just had to go for it”.
He added: “I surprised myself I think.”
However, not all of the judges were shocked that it was Michael behind the mask.
Olly Alexander guessed Andy Cole, Rita suggested it could be Alan Shearer and Davina McCall opted for Gary Lineker.
However, both Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan guessed Michael was the mysterious Doughnuts.
Speaking in his VT, Michael said: “I was certainly on fire when I came out of the oven. Fresh out of the box, I was making a name for myself and putting doughnuts on the map. And my career has seen me reach some dizzying heights.
“You’re not gonna believe some of the opportunities that I’ve had – or the people I’ve got to meet.”
Before Saturday’s show, five stars had been unmasked including Poodle (Tom Chaplin), Bagpipes (Pat Cash), Lionfish (Will Young), Snow Leopard (Gloria Hunniford) and Chandelier (Heather Small).
Traffic Cone, Panda, Rockhopper, Mushroom, and Robobunny remain in the competition.

Kim Medcalf returning to EastEnders as Sam Mitchell

OHMYGOSSIP — Kim Medcalf is returning to ‘EastEnders’.
The 48-year-old actress took over the role of Sam Mitchell in 2002 until 2005 and though it was Danniella Westbrook – who portrayed the character originally in several stints between 1990 to 2000 – who brought the businesswoman back in 2009 and 2016, bosses felt Kim was a more “natural fit” for their upcoming plans.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “Sam’s return has been on the cards for some time. They felt she was a natural fit for this version of Sam. It’s nothing against Danniella, she created an icon as the character.
“But as often happens in soaps, the bosses wanted to recast and take Sam in a different direction. Kim is due to begin filming in two weeks and everyone is very excited.”
Kim is “thrilled” to be returning to Walford.
She said: “When the BBC approached me last year to reprise the role of Sam I was thrilled.
“She’s a brilliant character and I can’t wait to get back in the Square and work with the amazing cast.”
While it’s unclear what will bring Sam back to Albert Square, her return is set to be “explosive”.
BBC head of continuing drama Kate Oates said: “I have long wanted to bring Sam back into the family fold. Her return is guaranteed to be explosive.”
It was rumoured earlier this month that ‘EastEnders’ bosses were planning to bring back Sam.
At the time, Danniella confirmed she hadn’t been approached to make another comeback but had no hard feelings if bosses decided to cast someone else.
She wrote on Instagram: “The @bbceastenders have not contacted me to say they are re casting or if they have. But that’s ok. Who plays Sam next I wish all the luck in the world to. Enjoy. #outwiththeoldinwiththenew.(sic)”

Jonathan Creek won’t be back

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Jonathan Creek’ will not be returning to TV.
Alan Davies was last seen in the titular lead role of the long-running comedy drama in a 2016 Christmas special and now writer David Renwick has revealed he won’t be penning any more scripts for the show – which ran for five series and a number of one-off episodes from 1997 – because he’s getting older and is no longer “tempted” to work on television shows.
He told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “‘Jonathan Creek’ has always been hard to write and construct. After 30-odd stories, I feel burned out on it.
“And age is catching up with me. That’s the deciding factor. I did fall ill during the last series.
“I directed half of it and then a bone marrow condition popped up and I had to hand it over to someone else.
“I feel like I’ve had a fairly good run and I feel like I had the best of it during that generation of comedy. The landscape has changed – I’m not tempted to be part of what television is now.”
The 70-year-old writer praised Alan for not pressuring him to return to the show.
He added: “Alan Davies is very loyal to the show and was very happy to do it if I resurfaced. He’s very proud of what he did.
“But he has been very good about me deciding not to write any more.
“He is not the kind of actor to say, ‘Why aren’t you writing some more ‘Jonathan Creek’s?’
“He is very sympathetic and empathetic about it and doesn’t want me to do anything I don’t want to do. He said to me, ‘Don’t make yourself ill.’ ”

Davina McCall feared end of her career with COVID-19

OHMYGOSSIP — Davina McCall thought she would never “work in telly again” when COVID-19 hit.
The ‘Masked Singer’ star has been a household name for 30 years and admitted she’s always convinced her career is ready to end, and never more so than when the pandemic caused widespread production disruption in the entertainment industry.
She said: “It’s mad [celebrating 30 years on TV]. I think every year is my last and it’s all gonna end tomorrow. Then something happens and I think: ‘Oh, maybe it’s not.’ With Covid, I thought: ‘That’s it. How am I ever going to work in telly again?’ But I did.”
Davina thinks lockdown would have been the perfect time to bring back ‘Big Brother’, which she presented from 2000 to 2010.
She told Fabulous magazine: “I don’t know if you could bring it back now. The one time I thought Big Brother coming back would have been amazing was for the 20th anniversary in 2020. Everybody was locked down. You take 14 people and you lock them down in a house – just like us – and we just watch them all day.”
However, she thinks cancel culture would stop the show being a success if it was to return.
She said: “But if it came back now, it would never be the same as it was. And it’s not because of the programme but because of society. It’s changed so much and the expectations of TV have changed – I just don’t know if you could do it. In today’s culture, people would be constantly getting chucked out for saying something.
“I don’t think it would work and that’s such a shame because it is a great format – but it was great for different times.”
When it comes to getting older, the 54-year-old star – who has children Holly, 20, Tilly, 17, and Chester, 15, with ex-husband Matthew Robertson – insisted she has no problem with it.
She said: “I still make mistakes, but I feel like I know myself a lot better and I understand myself a lot better,” she says. “Every year, you get another wrinkle, but you also get a piece of self-knowledge that makes you feel a bit better about yourself as pay-off. I think: ‘OK, I’ll take that.’
“I definitely think it’s true you enjoy each decade more. The older you get, the more settled you feel because you learn a lot.”

Steven Soderbergh shares plot teaser for Magic Mike’s Last Dance

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’ will have a “full-on relationship” at the heart of the film.
Channing Tatum is set to return as Mike Lane in the third and final instalment of the franchise that focuses on the world of male stripping and director Steven Soderbergh – who helmed the original movie – explained the flick will wider expand on previously-touched on issues including love, masculinity, and respect.
He said: “The third [movie] is the sort of apex of everything that we’ve been talking about in that area. Not just taking the dancing to another level, but really getting into the relationship aspect that’s that’s been an undercurrent in all of the films. Like, Mike has a full-on relationship that’s at the center of this movie, while all this stuff is going on, and we haven’t done that before.”
The filmmaker knew as soon as he heard Channing’s idea for ‘Magic Mike’ that it would be a “monster” hit, even if the 41-year-old star wasn’t as certain at the time.
He told Collider: “I certainly knew that the idea of it Channing’s idea of that movie was ridiculously commercial. I mean, he had pitched it to me – he was describing it to me on a set of ‘Haywire’ when I asked him what kind of other projects do you have in development?
“And he went down the list and then he kind of threw this away, he was like, ‘Oh, yeah, and then I got this thing about when I was 19 and stripping in Tampa.’ And I went, ‘OK, that’s gold. That’s ‘Saturday Night Fever’. What are you doing with that? And he said, ‘We’re developing it. We have a director.’ And I said, ‘Don’t wait on that, like that’s a great idea. Keep that thing on the front burner.
“Literally, a year goes by when he calls me, he says, ‘Do you still like that idea?’ I said, ‘Yeah. And you’re gonna meet me at Carney’s on Sunset on Saturday, and we’re gonna make a deal to make this movie this fall.’ And so that’s what happened. I knew that was a monster idea.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ruth Negga brings her “entire biography” to her work.
The 40-year-old actress’ father died in a car accident when she was just seven years old so she thinks it was “inevitable” that the tragedy has shaped all her life choices, and though it helped her relate to her character in ‘Passing’, who is raised by her white aunts following the deaths of her parents, she admitted her own history is always influential in her acting.
She said: “I can totally identify with that unmooring of losing a parent at such an early age and the lifetime of consequences involved.
“It affects you physically, it affects where you live, how you live.
“Your body, your mind, your imagination and your intellect are all part of the process and if that part of that character’s narrative aligns with yours, it’s inevitable that it would form that creation, whether consciously or unconsciously.
“To be honest, I bring my entire biography.”
Ruth stays clear from social media but has found the response to ‘Passing’ “extraordinary”.
She said in an interview with Empire magazine: “I’d have a nervous breakdown! I don’t know how people cope with [Twitter].
“I’m only finding out what people think about ‘Passing’ at Q&A screenings and it’s been extraordinary.
“That some piece of art moved you, changed your perspective, enlightened you in some way – for people to share that with you, face-to-face, is really profound.
“You realise this is bigger than all of us and at the same time, it is deeply personal.”

Karen Hauer wants female Strictly Come Dancing partner

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Hauer wants a female partner on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 39-year-old professional dancer – who has previously been paired with the likes of Jeremy Vine, Will Young, Jamie Laing, and Greg Wise – thinks it is “beautiful” that the show has featured same-sex couples on the last two seasons and she’d “really love” to be part of one in the next series.
She told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “It would be great to dance with another female this year. I’d really love that.
“It’s a beautiful thing that the show is opening up to it now. It’s not taboo anymore. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to show same-sex dancing. It’s normal now and that’s the way it should be.”
The last season saw chef John Whaite come second when paired with Johannes Radebe, while in 2020 boxer Nicola Adams danced with Katya Jones but they had to pull out of the show in week three after the dancer contracted COVID-19 but Karen was impressed by both couples.
She said: “It was done so beautifully both times.”
Karen has yet to sign a contract for the next season of the show but she admitted it is an “easy decision” for her if she’s asked back.
She said: “It will be my 11th year. Nothing is signed yet, but I am hoping to be back. When they ask me, it’s always an easy decision.
“It’s the best job ever. I still love it. I work with great people. We get to take beginners and teach them to dance and see them evolve.
“We love doing that. And the public loves it as well. That’s why the show has been around for such a long time. It’s feel-good and you can watch it with your family.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jared Leto has insisted it is “OK” if people didn’t like his performance in ‘House of Gucci’.
The 49-year-old actor has received a mixed reaction to his portrayal of Paolo Gucci in the film but admitted he never reads reviews so the only thing that matters is he “had a blast” making the movie and is happy just to have sparked a reaction.
He told Screendaily: “I can imagine [the reaction] because it’s a big swing. I don’t look at reviews, I don’t look at critics or read comments, but I tried my very best. Paolo is the best I can do. If you don’t like the work, that’s OK.
“I had a blast playing it, I dug in as deep as I could. It’s also that thing of if you’re not p****** people off then you’re doing something wrong. As an actor, if you want to put a dent in things you got to break things a bit, and not everyone’s going to understand that. So if that’s happening, then great.”
While Jared likes to immerse himself into his roles, he thinks people misunderstand his process and it is just “practical” to be as prepared for his work as possible.
He said: “‘Method acting’, ‘staying in character’, I just reject those terms because they have been perverted by a bunch of morons who don’t know what they are talking about.
“For me it’s practical. It’s my job to be the most prepared person on the planet and be ready to go. You don’t want to step onto a set with Denzel Washington or Denis Villeneuve or Al Pacino and not be prepared.
“I enjoy disappearing into that part. There’s nothing strange about it. What’s strange is people’s interpretation of my art. Everyone has a method.”
