OHMYGOSSIP — Katherine Ryan has opened up about her struggles with lupus, admitting it has left her “stressed and very agitated” at times.
The 38-year-old comedian – who first developed the autoimmune condition, which causes joint pain, skin rashes and tiredness, in 2007 – struggled with the symptoms for a long period of time before her diagnosis.
Katherine said: “I just felt really bad. My joints were sore, I had fevers that I couldn’t explain and, most noticeably, I had a really bright coloured rash on my face.
“I had really low white blood cells, but no one seemed particularly alarmed about that.
“There was a lot of frustration with doctors who didn’t know what was wrong and didn’t investigate. I felt quite fobbed off.
“I went to homoeopathic doctors, I went to GPs, I went to private dermatologists. One thought it was ringworm and I tried different creams that irritated it even more. I was even being told I might have leprosy!”
The ‘8 out of 10 Cats’ star admitted it wasn’t until she took herself to A&E that it was looked into more.
She added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I said, ‘I don’t know where else to go, I feel really sick.’ ”
It wasn’t until one nurse suggested that she might be suffering with lupus she broke down in tears.
Katherine recalled: “I only knew about lupus in a pop culture sense because I’d heard it joked about on shows like ‘House’ and ‘Seinfeld’,
“I was crying. Lupus affects mood, it can affect your neurology and it can do all sorts of things. I was so stressed and very agitated and upset about it.
“It was confirmed with a blood test that I had all these markers for lupus. I was thinking, ‘Oh no, all these terrible things are going to happen.’
“It depends on how severe it is, but people can need chemotherapy and dialysis and transplants, so it can be very serious.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Tommy Cannon can still feel his late comedy partner Bobby Ball “stood at the side” of him.
The 83-year-old actor – who is best known as the other half of comedy duo Cannon and Ball, opposite Bobby, who passed away in October 2020 aged 76 – says he can still feel his pal’s presence, and he touches a box with his ashes in on a daily basis.
Tommy said: “Even now, I can feel him. I can feel him stood at the side of me here saying, ‘Go on Tommy, lad. Go on, you can do it.’
“I’ve got some of Bobby’s ashes outside in the hallway and every morning I get up and touch the box with the ashes in and say, ‘Alright, pal.’ He’s up there now with a lot of famous people. I think he’ll be having a great time, bless him.”
Tommy is planning to go on tour soon with a new show to pay tribute to Bobby, after having two years off due to coronavirus.
He added to ‘The God Cast’ podcast: “I haven’t worked, not because Bob’s passed away but certainly because of COVID, I haven’t done any work in the past two years.
“So, I’m hoping to take a show out where I’m going to be interviewed by a guy, and tell the world about our story together. 60 years in the business.
“Our ups, our downs, the daft things that Bob did and I did. Then I’m going to ask the audience if they want to ask me any questions.
“I want it to be a tribute, but I also want it to be a celebration of Bob’s life. I’ll feel really good about that if we can get that together. I think we will.”
Tommy plans to honour Bobby by unveiling a statue of him in his adopted hometown Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, alongside Bobby’s widow Yvonne on July 31st.

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark doesn’t like to complain in restaurants because he “worries” what the public thinks of him.
The ‘Supermarket Sweep’ presenter would rather pay the bill and just leave if he was left dissatisfied with a meal in an eatery, because he would feel “embarrassed” to complain about his grub.
He said: “I am not a complainer. I get embarrassed if I complain. If I go to a restaurant and it’s s*** I say, ‘Let’s just pay it and go.’
“I think that’s because of my job. I’m so worried, so if I say, ‘This is disgusting,’ they’ll say, ‘That Rylan was an a*******.’ ”
The former ‘X Factor’ star – who last year split from his husband Dan Neal, who he married in 2015 – admitted he would ask to be moved to a different location if he had paid to rent a holiday villa full of cockroaches, but he would prefer to pay for a bad meal and then eat a McDonald’s on the way back home.
Speaking on Alan Carr’s ‘Life’s A Beach’ podcast, he added: “I just go with the flow. I can’t complain and I get embarrassed if I’m with someone and they moan.
“If I’ve spent a bit of money on a villa or something and it was running alive with cockroaches I’d say, ‘Find me somewhere else that’s different.’
“But if it’s a meal in a restaurant of something and it’s not great [I don’t say anything]. If the chicken is pink fine, send it back, but I’m not a complainer.
“I’d rather pay it and get McDonald’s on the way home.”
Earlier this month, Rylan admitted he struggled after the breakdown of his marriage.
He said: “I got ill and I lost weight, I went down to under 10 stone – and I’m six feet four inches, so that’s not good. The honest truth is that it’s been s***.
“I didn’t deal with what happened and now I am. I felt unwell and it was a very difficult time for me.
“My mum was majorly worried about me, as were all my family. I don’t just disappear for four months – that doesn’t just happen.
“Mum has been a lifesaver to me and one of my biggest regrets of this year was putting my mum through me not being well.
“I needed to get back to me.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Brian Dowling claims he has received “no apology” for Davina McCall amid their long-running feud.
The 43-year-old TV star shot to fame by winning the second series of ‘Big Brother’ in 2002 before replacing Davina McCall as the presenter during the show’s first series on Channel 5 in 2011.
But a quarrel ensued after Davina responded to fans in 2020 when asked online by some supporters whether or not Brian had been invited onto ‘Big Brother: Best Shows Ever’, which looked back at the Channel 4 years of the reality TV show.
Brian has now told The Sun newspaper: “I’ve not got an apology for stuff that was said. I know what happened to me during my time on that show – Davina McCall doesn’t because she wasn’t on the show.
“She resigned and left the show on Channel 4, and she passed me her microphone.”
The star was replaced as ‘Big Brother’ presenter by Emma Willis after two years when the programme moved to Channel 5.
And Brian says he felt “uncomfortable” with some of Davina’s comments.
He said: “I was uncomfortable with Davina’s truth because they weren’t Davina’s truths to tell. They were my truths to tell, and how I felt regarding my firing from Channel 5. Davina worked on a show on Channel 4. Davina and I had a good relationship up until the summer of last year, but things were said publicly that weren’t true and weren’t fair.”
The TV star – who also fronted ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ – previously said he would appreciate some acknowledgement of his time hosting the show.
He said: “There were only three hosts of ‘Big Brother’ – Davina, me and Emma – and I just kind of felt that I was overlooked I just went to address it. But I was not expecting it to go the way that it did with Davina and everything she was saying.
“I just wanted someone to acknowledge the fact I hosted it when it moved from Channel 4 to Channel 5. No one did.”
In June 2020, Brian confirmed he rejected a cameo on ‘Big Brother: Best Shows Ever’ – which was hosted by Davina and Rylan Clark – as he admitted he was offered the chance to record a message for the show.
But he “didn’t really feel like doing that” after claiming he only found out he had been axed from his presenting role on the programme in the newspapers.
Davina tweeted fans at the time: “Just an FYI . We did ask @brianofficial to be part of the show. He was ultimate housemate!!!! That was a no brainer. (sic)”
She also wrote: “We haven’t talked about Brian presenting as this is the channel 4 years as you have probably noticed. He presented on channel 5 . We had Emma and dermot on as they both worked on channel 4 big brother . We love @brianofficial . A lot. We showed him in bb2 (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘EastEnders’ star Rita Simons says it “ate her up” keeping her marriage breakdown quiet, and she once considered throwing herself down the stairs.
The 44-year-old actress – who played Roxy Mitchell in the BBC soap from 2007 to 2017 – married hairdresser Theo Silverston in 2004, but they split 2018, and she has told how their divorce – which was made official in 2020 – sent her into a “depression”.
She said: “It was a deep sadness, I would say a depression. I couldn’t see the wood for the trees.
“I didn’t want to work. I didn’t want to be ‘out there’. But I had to be and so, because I’m a grafter, I did that thing when you throw yourself into work.
“It was all kind of lumped into one big mess and I was very ill a lot of the time. I lost a lot of weight. And I wasn’t telling people about the marriage because although my kids knew, I didn’t want them reading about it. That just ate me up, not being able to tell people what was really going on.”
Rita – who is the niece of business mogul Lord Sugar – threw herself into stage work to avoid the pain, despite suffering from anxiety and OCD.
She added: “I was bouncing around from job to job. I pretty much worked 13 years without a break.”
It wasn’t until she joined 2019’s ‘The House On Cold Hill’ that she hit rock bottom.
The theatre star – who is now dating her ‘Legally Blonde: The Musical’ co-star Ben Harlow – added to The Sun newspaper: “There were some stairs on the set that I came on stage on, quite high at the top.
“And I thought I could just chuck myself down. I didn’t want to die. I just wanted to hurt myself enough to go to hospital and have someone look after me. That was scary.
“There was my anxiety, depression and OCD, but in the centre of all of that there was a really sad divorce happening.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Barry Cryer has died aged 86.
The comedy legend is known for penning material for legendary comedy performers The Two Ronnies and Morecambe and Wise, and several stars have paid tribute the late star.
Piers Morgan wrote on Twitter: “RIP Barry Cryer, 86. Such a warm, funny and talented man. A giant of British comedy. Thanks for all the laughs, Barry.”
Gyles Brandreth posted: “RIP #BarryCryer. Here we are only a few weeks ago. Baz was just the loveliest guy: funny & generous. He’d worked with everybody & everybody he worked with liked him. I shall miss his happy company so much – & his regular phone calls: he gave you a gem of a joke with each one.”
Actor and comedian Stephen Fry described Barry as “one of the absolute greats”, and praised him as a “gifted writer”.
He wrote: “Such sad news, one of the absolute greats of British comedy, Barry Cryer, is no more. A glorious, gorgeous, hilarious and gifted writer and performer who straddled all the comic traditions. Universally beloved … farewell, Baz.”
Barry – who was awarded an OBE in 2001 – appeared in BBC Radio 4’s ‘I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue’ since it began in 1972.
Screenwriter Mark Gatiss tweeted: “Barry Cryer was the real deal. An incredibly funny man who worked with – and wrote for – the giants of comedy. Yet he remained forever curious and delighted by whatever was fresh and original. Kind, encouraging, generous and a one off. Goodbye, Cheeky.”
Barry leaves behind wife Theresa – who he married in 1962 – four children and seven grandchildren.

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘Coronation Street’ star Sean Ward has ended up homeless after speaking out against the coronavirus vaccine.
The 33-year-old actor previously played villainous drug-dealer Callum Logan in the ITV soap, but he has taken to Instagram to explain that work has “dried up” after he took part in protests against COVID-19 vaccines.
He wrote: “Firstly the work dried up. No one would hire me whether in front of or behind the camera, all my usual ways of making money just stopped, eventually I couldn’t afford the rent. So I gave up my 4 bed house and move onto my friend’s couch. I had to put all my belongings into storage. After a while I couldn’t afford to pay the storage bill and after about 4 weeks of missing the payments – equating to about £500 – Safe store UK sold all belongings. My sofa, my bed frame, my office equipment, desk, chair, wardrobes, mirrors, all my coats and clothes and my projector.” (sic)
Sean – who also starred in BBC military drama ‘Out Girl’ alongside Michelle Keegan – went on to reveal that he is now sleeping on his old mattress in a friend’s spare room, but claimed it was “all worth it”.
He added: “Luckily I got my mattress out in time and I’ve been sleeping on that in a friend’s spare room for over a year now. He has given me a safe space when I really needed it. I haven’t paid any rent to this man and it makes me extremely tearful when I think how amazing that really is. Was it all worth it? Yes! If I’ve saved one life then yes.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jamie Demetriou says he’s “pausing” ‘Stath Lets Flats’, but he won’t rule out future series.
The comedian, screenwriter and actor – who created Channel 4 sitcom, which has received BAFTA awards for Best Scripted Comedy and Best Male Comedy Performance – admitted he’s taking a break, but he isn’t completely against a fourth season.
He told RadioTimes.com: “I’m really just living in the moment. I’ve completed a very kind of rocky 14 months of making stuff and I don’t feel like it’s important to make decisions like that so soon.
“I really want to let things breathe and work out as and when things feel like they’re right to do and if inspiration strikes or if it doesn’t. I’m not putting a date on anything or a kind of definite decision on anything and that’s actually just a truthful answer, I’m not being political.”
Jamie – who plays a socially inept letting agent in ‘Stath Lets Flats’ – would like to spread his creative wings and branch out to other avenues outside of comedy.
He added: “I’m really excited to allow my career to go in the direction that feel rights at any given time. I suppose, you know, I have been working on Stath for a decade. It would be good for me to, at the very least, pause.
“I don’t know about putting a full stop, but there’s definitely going to be a comma and it just depends on who big that comma is, you know.
“I mean, it’s effectively my whole adult life. The Stath as you know it, I’ve been working on for 10 years. The previous four years, I was doing comedy and doing that voice and stuff, so yeah, I’m like it would be good to flex some other muscles.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Piper almost missed out on getting her OBE.
The 38-year-old television presenter was awarded the honour in January for her charity work with The Katie Piper Foundation – which she set up in 2011 after suffering a life-changing acid attack in 2008 – but she nearly missed the deadline for accepting the honour, because the letter got lost in the post.
She said: “We set the charity up 11 years ago and we used to have an office which was kindly donated to us for a year for free, and that address is still online somewhere and the OBE letter went to that old address.
“But they kindly forwarded it to me 11 months later!”
Katie then went on to say that it was “incredible” to receive recognition over a decade after she founded the charity and paid tribute to her trustees, staff and fellow burns survivors.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, she said: “But it’s incredible, 11 years on to have that recognition now. It’s not just me, it’s been a real group effort of trustees, staff, volunteers, and also the survivors that trusted us to help them .”
When host Lorraine Kelly told her that she is the “eternal optimist”, Katie admitted that while she may be optimistic, she is “definitely not happy every day.”
She added: “I think that’s really important to invite [positivity] into your life.
“If you want something to happen you do have to go out there and be a bit of a seeker rather than waiting for it to come to you, and I think personal responsibility is a big part of that as well. I’m an optimist, but I’m definitely not happy every day or positive every day, and I think that’s OK.”
The ‘Loose Women’ star – who joined the lunchtime panel back in July 2021 – also revealed she routinely deletes social media at the weekends after being “called out” by her children for spending too much time on her phone.
She said: “Your kids will call you out, ‘Mum, you’re always on your phone!’ or they’ll start playing mums and dads impersonating you on the phone so I’ve been quite strict about it.
“What I’ve started doing at the weekends is deleting all the social apps, your Instagrams, your Twitter, and then I’ll put it back on the Monday because do I really need to be on it looking at everyone’s outfits and food, is it just a bit of envy and jealousy? Monday’s my work day so I’ll go back on it then.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Shirley Ballas is “open” to having a facelift.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ head judge judge has considered going under the knife for the treatment because she doesn’t like the way her chin looks from a side angle.
Shirley, 61, told Woman & Home Magazine: “I am partial to a little Botox. I like a bit maybe twice a year and, I’m not going to lie, I’m open to a facelift. When I look at myself on the telly, I don’t like the way my chin is looking from the side profile, so I’ll go and see the guy who did my boobs and if I do it, I’ll be transparent.
“When it comes to ageing, you can’t turn back the clock or stop time so it’s about doing the best you can for yourself. When I go out, even to the store, I do my hair and put on some make-up. It’s important to take care of yourself.”
The ballroom dancer counts the calories of “every morsel” she eats, but admits despite this she is “struggling” to lose weight.
She added: “Restriction is a habit from years of being under scrutiny as a professional dancer. I do intermittent fasting and every morsel I put in my mouth, I’m counting the calories. Even so, I’m struggling to lose weight, which I think is down to hormones. My mum only weighs eight stone and weighs herself every morning.”
Last year, fans spotted a lump under Shirley’s arm when she was on ‘Strictly’.
She later went to hospital to get it checked out and doctors conducted a series of tests after they were concerned about her high hormone levels.
She wrote in November: “Hi everybody I just wanted to fill you in as promised…
“I got two sets of results back to day and the shadow on my kidney seems absolutely fine and some other polyps are absolutely fine. No cancer there so that’s good.
“‘Now I need to have my boobies checked one more time when I have a minute.
“My hormones are still all over the place today so starting today with some oestrogen to see if we can balance the body better… (sic)”
