Geoffrey Rush to play Groucho Marx in Raised Eyebrows

OHMYGOSSIP — Geoffrey Rush is to play the legendary comedian Groucho Marx in ‘Raised Eyebrows’.
The 70-year-old star will portray the iconic funnyman in a film based on Steve Stoliar’s memoir ‘Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House’.
Sienna Miller and Charlie Plummer have also been tapped to feature in the movie, which is being directed by Oren Moverman from a screenplay he co-wrote with Stoliar.
The film is set between 1973 and 1977 and follows Steve (Plummer) as he enters Groucho Marx’s house for his dream job of working for the aging comic under the watchful eye of Erin Fleming (Miller).
Fleming had taken over Marx’s personal and professional life and the pair had a controversial relationship as she was his devoted girlfriend-turned-manager.
The power struggles result in a comedy of horrors in which obsession, love, celebrity, mental illness, family and Hollywood are taken to task in a ‘Grouchian’ manner.
The project is being produced by Moverman and Miranda Bailey for Cold Iron Pictures.
Oren said: “It’s a pleasure and honour and a responsibility and probably something else to work with this amazing cast on a story I hope will reintroduce the genius of Groucho Marx in a new, provocative, entertaining way all these years later.
“Steve Stoliar has given the world incredible insight into a bygone era. Done right, we will screw it up royally.”
Bailey added: “After many years diligently working to get Steve’s brilliant, true story adapted for the screen, I’m thrilled that we found the perfect ensemble of actors to portray these rich yet complicated characters that Oren will, no doubt, masterfully bring to life.
“Even in a world that tells us ‘never meet your idols’, Steve’s friendship with Groucho Marx, while filled with moments of heartbreaking humanity, proved to be an overwhelmingly positive and life-changing experience for him – an essence we hope to capture for our audience.”

Taraji P. Henson starring in The Color Purple remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Taraji P. Henson will star in ‘The Color Purple’.
The 51-year-old actress will play the role of Shug Avery in Blitz Bazawule’s musical take on Steven Spielberg’s 1985 film of the same name.
The forthcoming Warner Bros. movie is an adaptation of the award-winning Broadway musical, which is itself an adaptation of the novel by Alice Walker.
The production will be directed by Blitz – known for his work on Beyonce’s ‘Black is King’ – and Marcus Gardley has written the screenplay based on Walker’s book, Spielberg’s film and the stage musical.
Oprah Winfrey, who made her acting debut in Spielberg’s adaptation, is producing the new flick under her Harpo Films banner. The ‘Jaws’ director is also returning to produce for his Amblin Entertainment company.
Scott Sanders and Quincy Jones – who both produced the Broadway musical – are also involved as producers on the movie.
Taraji joins previously announced cast members Corey Hawkins and award-winning singer H.E.R in the film’s ensemble ahead of its slated release in December 2023.
Meanwhile, Taraji once revealed that she always knew that she wanted to be an actress and never had second thoughts about her chosen career path.
Asked if she considered looking for a more stable profession, the ‘Empire’ actress said: “Never. Time was ticking. I was in my 20s and you’re fearless then. I was waiting for my chance. I never turned an audition down. I didn’t care what it was for, I was just hungry. When my dad was alive, he wouldn’t allow me to quit. It wasn’t an option.
“Once I had my son, I realised if I quit, I’m teaching him to quit. There were times I got scared and my dad was there to champion me, like, ‘Hang in there, because you don’t see what I see, it’s coming.’ He’d seen my plays, he knew my talent. My mom and my aunt would send me money. There was no space to quit.”

Stacey Solomon’s Sort Your Life Out returning for series 2

OHMYGOSSIP — Stacey Solomon’s ‘Sort Your Life Out’ is to return for a second series.
The 32-year-old star will return to front the BBC One show – in which Stacey and her team, Robert Bent, Dilly Carter and Iwan Carrington, transform families’ lives by decluttering their homes – for a new six-part series.
Stacey said: “There’s nothing that brings me more joy than decluttering my home, so it was amazing to share my tips and tricks with wonderful families in the first series of ‘Sort Your Life Out’.
“Letting go of belongings can be a really vulnerable, challenging and emotional experience.
“I feel lucky to help people through the process and sort out their homes for the better.
“I can’t wait to be reunited with my dream team Dilly, Robert and Iwan for more incredible transformations.”
The first six-part series, which began in November, sees Stacey help a different family each episode to empty out their home of all their possessions.
Stacey and her team then sort everything into categories in a warehouse, where the family can then decide what they want to discard, sell, or recycle.
BBC Commissioning Editor Beejal-Maya Patel added: “‘Sort Your Life Out’ is perfect television.
“These heart-warming stories of families overwhelmed by possessions and reluctant to let go of the past, is something we can all relate to.
“Stacey, Dilly, Rob and Iwan do such a sensational job of not only revamping the house, but of transforming the families lives for the long-term.
“I’m thrilled we’ll get to see it return for a second series.”

John Whaite to ‘star in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical’

OHMYGOSSIP — John Whaite is set to join Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new show.
The 32-year-old star – who was runner up of BBC’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ last year alongside pro partner Johannes Radebe – is expected to swap the ballroom for the West End boards this summer after impressing on the dance show.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “John will take centre stage in the show. It’s a dream job for him.
“He really impressed on ‘Strictly’ and when Andrew found out John has an excellent singing voice too, he reached out.
“It could be an incredible new start for him.”
The former ‘Great British Bake Off’ winner previously admitted he had received some work offers.
John – who is currently taking part in the ‘Strictly’ live tour – said at the time: “I can’t say much but there are a few people interested in booking me.”
In November, the star was tipped to land a stage role following his success on the BBC Latin and ballroom show.
A TV source said at the time: “It’s not just his moves on ‘Strictly’ that have caught the attention of directors, it’s also the charisma and confidence he’s shown as he finds himself in the spotlight.
“Being in the show’s first same-sex partnership with Johannes Radebe could have been an intimidating prospect, but far from being a shrinking violet he’s been a shining star.
“Plus he’s been posting videos where he’s singing and playing the guitar, making him a ‘triple threat’ in the West End.”
The culinary star has previously admitted he would love to appear in ‘Rent’, the rock musical set in 1980s New York amid the AIDS crisis.
He said: “It’s my favourite musical because it’s about liberation, about not going with the tide, living a bohemian lifestyle and not letting people walk all over you. Ultimately, it’s about love, no matter who or what you are.”

Fady Elsayed ‘poised to replace Jodie Whittaker as Doctor Who’

OHMYGOSSIP — Fady Elsayed is in line to become the new Time Lord in ‘Doctor Who’.
The 28-year-old actor is reportedly being lined up by BBC bosses to replace Jodie Whittaker in the sci-fi show later this year.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “Fady would be a very different Doctor – but that’s precisely what the creators want.”
Fady starred in a ‘Doctor Who’ spin-off called ‘Class’ in 2016, and it’s thought he could be named as Jodie’s long-term replacement as the Doctor within weeks.
The London-born actor previously admitted to being a “huge, huge” fan of the long-running sci-fi series.
He said: “I was always very aware of ‘Doctor Who’. Now I’m a huge, huge fan.”
However, a number of alternative names have previously been tipped for the coveted role of the Doctor, including Omari Douglas and Lydia West, who starred in the hit Channel 4 drama ‘It’s A Sin’.
Jodie has previously confessed to crying during her final days on set.
The actress – who joined the show in 2017 – also admitted to having the “best time” as the Time Lord on the BBC show.
She said: “You know what I’m like – I’m a crier. I had to do my final (backstage interview) today. We haven’t finished filming so I can avoid the thoughts a bit more.
“But obviously with the behind-the-scenes stuff, it was in that slightly concluding way and, ‘Can you tell us how you feel about the crew?’ and then I just lost it.
“I was just crying my eyes out, absolutely gone. I always knew this is the best time I will ever have on a job. I have felt like that from the start of it.”

Phillip Schofield tests positive for coronavirus

OHMYGOSSIP — Phillip Schofield has tested positive for coronavirus.
The ‘This Morning’ presenter is set to miss the show this week after he shared the results of his positive lateral flow test with fans.
He wrote on Instagram Stories: “Well b*******!! (sic)”
The 59-year-old star admitted he’s currently only suffering from a “slightly sore throat”.
It comes after ‘This Morning’ was thrown into COVID chaos last year.
Former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ star Vernon Kay was due to guest present the brunchtime show last August, but he had to pull out of the programme after he tested positive for coronavirus.
The star, who was replaced by Eamonn Holmes, admitted he was “gutted” to have to sit out his presenting role alongside Rochelle Humes, and he also had to miss a planned guest-hosting slot on BBC Radio 2, where he was due to sit in for Steve Wright on his afternoon show.
He said at the time: “I’m absolutely gutted that because of a positive COVID test I’m no longer able to present on ‘This Morning’ next week with Rochelle nor do Radio 2 guest hosting and Steve Wright’s cover, two iconic shows which I’ve been a fan of for decades.”
Eamonn tweeted at the time: “But just when u thought you’d got rid of me …. sickness with @AlisonHammond and @vernonkay means I’m off the bench .Get well soon to them but I have my Boots on and I’m ready to play.

Oti Mabuse speaks out about ‘horrible’ online abuse

OHMYGOSSIP — Oti Mabuse has spent years dealing with racially abusive and fat-shaming messages online.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro dancer has opened up about receiving “horrible” messages from cruel trolls, admitting it took her a long time to realise that some vile social media users are not “representative” of the majority of the BBC Latin and ballroom show’s fanbase.
She said: “I work on a show that 10 million people love. If 10 or 100 people aren’t nice to me, that is not representative. It’s taken years for me to get that into my head.
“To get tweeted or receive a message in my inbox being racially abusive, or fat-shaming me, is horrible.
“But it’s written by a person who can’t even face themselves in the mirror.”
But Oti insists the more hate she receives in her life just makes her even more determined to “carry on”.
In a piece in this week’s Radio Times magazine, she wrote: “Being black makes me special. The hard stuff that I’ve been through, with the racism and discrimination, is proof that people still have a lot to learn.
“The more hate I receive, the more of a reason it is to carry on. I have to show young girls that anything is possible.”
As well as being a dancer on ‘Strictly’, Oti recently joined the ‘Dancing on Ice’ judging panel.
Earlier this month, the 31-year-old star admitted she wants to “grow” in her career as she addressed her ‘Strictly’ future after signing up for the ITV show.
She said: “There will be an announcement that will be made later but I think for me, as a person in entertainment, I really want to learn and I want to grow and I want a long career, especially in this country, like I moved all the way from Africa!
“So I have to make something of myself. So I’m really trying to learn and do as much as I can, for as long as I can, while I can.”

Encanto writer reveals film’s scrapped post-credits scene

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Encanto’ co-writer Jared Bush has revealed the movie had a scrapped post-credits scene.
Bush – who also co-directed the Disney animated favourite, which starred the likes of Stephanie Beatriz and John Leguizamo – admitted the team had a scene ready to go which showed capybara Chispi get water poured on his head from the magical house Casita after trying to urinate on one of the walls.
The writer shared a clip of the funny moment on Twitter and explained they decided not to include it because of the “emotion and joy” of the film’s ending.
He wrote: “We considered an after credit joke to end the movie, but ultimately felt going out on the emotion and joy of the family coming back together was the way to go… but the hilarious @darrinbutters animated it!!
“So here you go! THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR WATCHING WITH US!! #ENCANTO (sic)”
Meanwhile, Bush also responded to news the movie’s song ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’ has hit the tom of the Billboard charts.
This means it’s tied with ‘Aladdin’ classic ‘A Whole New World’ as the highest charting Disney animated song ever.
Replying to an article about the achievement, he wrote: “This headline is overwhelming! Huge congrats to our incredible cast for their unforgettable performances (literally unforgettable) @Lin_Manuel, Mike Elizondo and our brilliant team of musicians, editors, brilliant musical minds, support staff & ALL OF YOU AMAZING FANS! (sic)”
Miranda – who composed eight musical numbers for the film, which centres on a magical Colombian family – previously opened up about his goals with the film.
He explained: “I wanted to help put a huge Latino family on screen and to widen the doors in my own corner of the world.
“But it’s not some kind of grand academic thesis statement as much as it is keeping promises to your inner child.”

Benedict Cumberbatch leads upcoming sci-fi thriller Morning

OHMYGOSSIP — Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast in the upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Morning’.
The ‘Doctor Strange’ actor has boarded Justin Kurzel’s new movie in the role of Frank alongside his on-screen wife Cathy, who is played ‘Big Little Lies’ star Laura Dern.
‘A Quiet Place’ actor Noah Jupe, 16, is set to play the couple’s son Danny.
The film is “set in a near future where society has a pill that does away with the need to sleep. With the added help of an artificial sun, there is no end to morning daylight, living and work. However, as a young generation grows up deprived of the world of sleep, they consider rebelling to reclaim their dreams.
“The ambitious and driven Cathy (Dern) was an early advocate of a sleepless world, but as she and her son Danny (Jupe) pick up the pieces of their lives following the death of her husband Frank (Cumberbatch), she finds the universe she helped to build is starting to crumble around her, whilst memories she fought so hard to repress are bleeding into her waking life. As Danny is further drawn into a subversive underworld of dreamers, Cathy must confront her nightmares and fight hard not to lose her son.”
The script comes from Sam Steiner and Benedict is producing under his SunnyMarch banner, Deadline reports.
The 45-year-old actor’s latest role saw him star as rancher Phil Burbank in critically-acclaimed ‘The Power of the Dog’, and he previously admitted he enjoyed getting to play someone who was very different to him.
He said: “As somebody who’s a bit of a people-pleaser and apologetic at the best of times, who worries too much about what people think of me, I loved the freedom of being somebody who wasn’t in that space. Of course, there’s this deep kernel of truth he never lets get exposed. And that ties into the breadth of fear and fury that we know he has.
“But he can also stand behind his back and survey all these scenes with a sort of calm acceptance and knowing. And not be taken in with the hoopla of worrying about what the ranch-hands think of him. He’s very self-assured. I admired that.”
Benedict also reprised his role as Doctor Strange for Marvel’s money-spinning blockbuster ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’.

Call the Midwife’s Helen George hits back at trolls

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen George has hit back after trolls criticised her for being pregnant while filming ‘Call the Midwife’.
The 37-year-old star welcomed her second child, Lark, into the world in November last year, but she has hit out at some of the “ridiculous comments” she has received online after she shot episodes of the BBC period drama while expecting.
Helen – who also has four-year-old Wren with her partner and co-star Jack Ashton – wrote on Twitter: “I’ve seen too many ridiculous comments about my pregnancy whilst filming
@CallTheMidwife1 ( also thank you for the lovely comments!) Women get pregnant, our bodies change. But we have the right to work if we choose to do so. How about just supporting it, and don’t question it? (sic)”
Helen’s comments come after one social media user tweeted: “It’s very unprofessional in my opinion, it’s not as if it’s filmed all year round. It’s a short window.
“She should quit if she wants to get pregnant during filming. It ruins continuity and the aesthetics of the show.”
Helen’s former ‘Call the Midwife’ co-star Victoria Yeates (Sister Winifred) shot to her defence after the negative comments.
She tweeted: “Yes, we do have the right to work, as did I till 37 weeks! Are we supposed to just quit? Very bazaar. Times they are a changing. I’ve seen friends pregnant on stage and the play has totally accommodated that. Helen you are always absolutely gorgeous.”
Helen – who portrays nurse Trixie Franklin in the programme – replied: “Love you xx”

Woody Harrelson leads cast of Champions

OHMYGOSSIP — Woody Harrelson is to star in ‘Champions’.
The 60-year-old actor will head the cast of the new sports movie that will also feature Kaitlin Olson, Cheech Marin and Matt Cook.
The film has been directed by Bobby Farrelly and recently wrapped production. It is based on the award-winning Spanish film ‘Campeones’ – which was released in 2018.
The picture centres on a stubborn and hotheaded minor league basketball coach who is forced to take charge of a Special Olympics after being sentenced to community service.
Actors with intellectual disabilities will round out the cast to ensure authenticity in the storytelling.
Mark Rizzo has penned the script with Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer and Jeremy Plager producing. Woody will executive produce alongside Brad Kessell, Alexander Jooss, Luis Manso, Alvaro Longoria and Javier Fesser.
Universal Pictures will handle the international release of the movie with Focus distributing domestically.
Woody previously starred as the supervillain Cletus Kasady/Carnage in ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ and believes his romance with Frances Barrison/Shriek (Naomie Harris) added more depth to his alter ego – especially as he was disappointed with his cameo appearance in the first film.
He said: “I just wanted to… I felt like with that first thing, even though it was only one scene, I certainly felt at the end of it, I could’ve done a much better job.
“So I just wanted to make the character more interesting. And they have some things in spite of being a serial killer that endeared you to Cletus Kasady, not the least of which was his love for Shriek. But yeah, those are some of the things.”

Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley starring in The Substance

OHMYGOSSIP — Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley are to star in ‘The Substance’.
The pair have boarded the cast of the film that will be written and directed by Coralie Fargeat in her first studio feature.
Specific details about the movie are yet to be revealed, but Deadline report that it is Fargeat’s explosive feminist take on body horror. Production will begin in Paris in May.
Fargeat is producing the movie with her Working Title partners Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan.
Universal Pictures are also involved in the making of the movie and Senior Executive VP Production Development Erik Baiers will oversee the project for the studio.
Demi previously revealed how she deliberately seeks out “provocative” roles so she can learn things about herself.
The 59-year-old actress said: “I was definitely moved by things that were provocative. And I don’t mean just in a sexual context, but things that really pushed us to think outside the box.
“And in the very early days for me, I think so much of what inspired and moved me was about exploring how to love myself, how to find myself and in looking at different ways to discover the different pieces of me.”
Demi also explained how she felt like a “guinea pig” during the making of the 2020 film ‘Songbird’ as it was one of the first movies to begin production after the COVID-19 hiatus.
The ‘Ghost’ star said: “It was the first film from what I understand, to get the green light [to start filming].
“So in a way I felt like we were the guinea pigs. We were the test case to see if it could work as they were slowly rolling out a new version of how we can work safely.”

Ben Whishaw learned how to perform C-section for new role

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Whishaw learned how to perform a caesarean for an upcoming role.
The 41-year-old actor – who is best known as gadgets expert Q in the James Bond film franchise – swapped the gadgets for a scalpel for his new upcoming role as junior doctor Adam Kay in BBC One’s medical drama ‘This Is Going to Hurt’, and he was surprised how “basic” a C-section was to carry out.
He is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: “We’ve learned how to do caesareans. I had no idea it was as basic as it is. You take a scalpel, slice through flesh, put your hands in, pull the muscles apart and grab the baby.
“Things like that are extraordinary.”
Ben admitted one of his favourite scenes from the show featured a mum trying to eat her placenta.
He added: “She’s read it’s good for her and the baby and, well, it gets messy.
“I think it’s a time when we’ve all been more aware than normal of just how much we owe to the people who work for the NHS.”
Adam was over the moon when Ben was cast to play him.
He said: “To have the finest actor of his generation playing me? In a career-defining performance? Yeah, it’s OK, I guess.”
Adam recently admitted he was desperate for a bizarre story about a Kinder Egg – from his book ‘This Is Going to Hurt’ – to make it into the TV series of the same name.
A woman had planned to propose to her boyfriend by hiding a ring inside the chocolate egg and then inserting it into her private parts for her boyfriend to find – but things went terribly wrong and she ended up in A&E.
He previously said: “I think that is my favourite story in the book. I was desperate that the Kinder Egg made it into the show.
“The BBC promised me one thing right at the start, which was that they wouldn’t say, ‘You can’t do that.’ ”
