OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Countdown’ presenter Anne Robinson managed to keep a straight face when the conundrum spelt ‘SPERMTEST’.
The long-running Channel 4 daytime quiz got a bit cheeky when the final challenge – in which the answer was temptress – displayed a rude word, but the former ‘Weakest Link’ host managed to keep it together on Thursday’s show (10.02.22).
The 77-year-old veteran broadcaster began: “Let’s reveal today’s Countdown conundrum.”
The inappropriate word then flashed up on the screen and didn’t go unnoticed in the show’s Dictionary Corner.
Anne then asked if “anyone in the studio” got it before comedian Geoff Norcott offered up the incorrect solution of ‘temperaments’ as his answer.
He then quipped to the presenter: “I should have thought of you.”
The threat of rude words appearing on the quiz have always been something minefield as Carol Vorderman – who handled the letters and numbers on the show until 2009 – recently revealed she named her mansion after a spoof anagram from a sketch by Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry as it was cheekily used on the programme.
The 61-year-old maths whizz revealed her named her home ‘Sloblock Hall’.
She explained: “Sloblock became our ‘Countdown’ swear word. I named my house Sloblock Hall.
“I never thought I’d get the name past the council naming committee but I did because I didn’t tell them what it meant. Life’s too short. Made me laugh every time I went through the gates.”
Carol added an emotional farewell on Instagram when she moved out of the property.
She said: “Today I sold and said goodbye to a house I kinda built 15 years ago….the house of a thousand parties. Goodbye my happy place….. So many wicked parties…..so so many brilliant memories. I’m a lucky woman. And now I’m moving on to yet more new adventures. Wishing the new family who call you home now every happiness and health and laughter. Cheers SLOBLOCK. We had a blast. (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Brendan Cole wants to be liberated from his “bad boy” image.
The ‘Dancing on Ice’ contestant wants to shake up the “narrative” away from the ultra-competitive dancer he is known to be.
Brendan told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “I had 15 years of that narrative, regardless of how funny I was or the silly stuff that I got up to backstage.”
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro shared how he would listen to the needs and wants of his various celebrity partners – including Kelly Brook, Lisa Snowdon and Sophie Ellis-Bextor – in his 15 series on the hit BBC One programme
Brendan said: “If my ‘Strictly’ partner wanted to work hard and try and be there at the end, I’d be working my backside off. But if my partner was like, ‘I don’t want it that much’, that was fine also.”
He joked that now audiences now can “see” the real Brendan and how foolish he can be.
The New Zealander quipped: “Now people can see what I’m really like – a bit of an idiot most of the time!”
Brendan, 45, gushed about how “thankful” he was to be working with Vanessa Bauer – his 25-year-old professional partner on the ITV skating competition.
He said: “Within my field, I’ve had a handful of partners who I’ve absolutely loved working with, they were inspiring to me as a dancer and I’ve loved the feeling of dancing with them – and I’m so very thankful Vanessa’s exactly the same.”
Brendan enthused about the “few elements to our personalities that just work”.
He explained: “There are a few elements to our personalities that just work. We love that feeling of, ‘It’s not quite good enough until the day’. We have that same drive, the same work ethic. She’s got a little bit of spice in her, which I like.
“She gives me a look every now and then and I know I’m in trouble and just go, ‘Sorry!’ She has to put up with my ridiculous sense of humour and the crazy things I say and do on the ice. So I think that it just works.”
Brendan – who shares children Aurelia, nine, and Dante, three, with his wife Zoe – ruled out falling victim to “curse” of falling romantically for his dance partner.
He said: “The curse is not an issue for me, no. I’m a happily married man dancing with a beautiful young lady who’s almost half my age!
“Zoe has been an angel. She’s been incredible throughout this. She’s had two children pretty much on her own for the duration.
“I can’t thank her enough for that because if you’re in a relationship, you can’t do a show like this without support, it would just be too hard.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Mulhern will replace Phillip Schofield on ‘Dancing On Ice’.
Phillip, 59, has tested positive for COVID-19 so Stephen will co-host Sunday’s (06.02.22) show with Holly Willoughby.
ITV said in a statement: “This Sunday’s episode of ‘Dancing on Ice’ will be hosted by Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern while Phillip Schofield continues to self-isolate.”
Stephen said: “I’m very much looking forward to being back hosting alongside my good friend Holly this weekend. It’s big shoes to fill and I’m wishing Phillip a speedy recovery.
“I’m a big fan of ‘Dancing on Ice’ and for one night only I’m thrilled to be rink side watching the action unfold. It’s going to be unbelievable!”
An insider told MirrorOnline: “While Phil is off recovering, Stephen was delighted to be asked to step in to fill his shoes and present alongside Holly. He gets on with everyone so bosses are more than happy for him to step up.
“Everyone’s wishing Phil a quick recovery and hoping to see him back in his rightful place later this month.”
Stephen and Holly previously co-hosted ‘Ministry of Mayhem’ back in 2006.

OHMYGOSSIP — Olly Murs believes the late Caroline Flack was “with” him when he filmed his new TV show.
The 37-year-old singer is the new host of ‘Starstruck’ , his first presenting job since he and his friend co-hosted ‘The X Factor’ in 2015 and not only could he feel the spirit of the ‘Love Island’ star – who took her own life two years ago – with him when he recorded the programme, he drew on fond memories of their stints working together to guide his performance.
He said: “She was definitely with me, Caz, behind the doors. I’m not going to lie. I did the pilot on the first day and it felt very strange.
“It definitely felt weird for me to be on my own hosting a show. I was thinking about her and what we would normally do.
“We’d normally have a joke or two or dance and have a laugh together and try not be so serious and that’s what was so good about the show. And God bless Caroline, I love her and miss her every day.
“Remembering her way, in a really serious moment telling a joke or doing something really stupid or fun.
“I did take that in with me on to this show and I’m also very proud to be hosting such an amazing show on Saturday night – the first Saturday show on my own.
“I know that Caroline would have been really proud of me getting this job.”
Olly admitted he “avoided” taking another presenting job for a long time because of the backlash he got for his time on ‘The X Factor’.
He added to the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “The last time I did a Saturday night TV show was with Caroline and I sort of avoided hosting for quite a few years really.
“It wasn’t something I wanted to do any more. I wanted just to continue singing and doing that and then I went into judging.
“So it was a big moment for me. Many times, before the show, I’d think of Caroline and of the little words she would say to me and a joke or two. What was so lovely, I had an amazing panel who made me feel at ease.”
And Olly hopes Caroline would be “proud” of him.
He said: “I wouldn’t be the presenter I am without her. She was the real deal.
‘People didn’t give her enough credit for what a great presenter she was.
“In times of difficulty, especially in the early days when I was doing TV, I needed Caroline next to me because she was the pro.
“I definitely learnt so much from Caroline on working in TV. She 100% made me the presenter I am today and I will continue to do her justice and do her proud. I think about her every day. I think about what I could have done to change things, what I could have said. All these answers and questions I ask myself every day, but there’s nothing I can do to bring her back.
“All I can do is keep living and keep her in my thoughts. I’ll never forget Caz.
“She’s always there in my memories and thoughts.
“I’ll always try to do my best for her.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Neighbours’ has been axed in the UK.
The long-running Australian soap will no longer broadcast on Channel 5 – who acquired the rights in 2008 – from this summer, with the network planning to focus on “original UK drama” instead.
A spokesperson for Channel 5 said: “’Neighbours’ will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer.
“It’s been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series.
“We’d also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of Neighbours across the years.
“We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers.”
When they acquired the rights to the soap, Channel 5 largely funded the production costs for the show because it was not commercially viable for Australian broadcaster Network 10 to fund the Freemantle Media-produced show alone.
The Australian network are keen to save the programme but will need to find a new backer.
They have told the current cast of the show that filming will be paused on Monday (07.02.22) for a meeting about its future and that they are looking for a new broadcast partner.
A Network 10 spokesperson said: “As outlined in the email to ‘Neighbours’ cast and crew, it is our intention to continue our association with Neighbours if another broadcast partner comes forward,
“Network 10 has an ongoing commitment to the show, the cast and crew and is hopeful that Fremantle will find a new production partner. We will provide further updates as they become available.”
The Seven Network originally had the rights to the show when it started in 1985, but axed it and it was picked up by Network 10 the following year and became a worldwide hit, with BBC One the original UK broadcaster.

OHMYGOSSIP — Liberty Poole has hit back at critics of her ‘Dancing On Ice’ outfits.
The 22-year-old ‘Love Island’ star made her debut on the ice-skating show in a racy red number and immediately faced backlash from viewers but she doesn’t care.
She told The Sun newspaper: “I’ve always had naturally full boobs and I understand that if I had smaller boobs, it might be a bit classier. Well, classier in some people’s eyes.
“But that’s really something that I can’t help and why should I change what I want to wear so it pleases other people?
“I’m not going to stop being myself to please other people or change myself in any way. I’m me at the end of the day, and I’ve always had naturally big boobs and that’s the way it is.
“I felt like the best version of me and as long as I feel that way, then it doesn’t matter what other people say. Sorry, not sorry!”
And she hopes that her time on ‘Dancing On Ice’ will help people to see more of her personality, rather than judging her on her looks.
Liberty explained: “I think because I’ve come from ‘Love Island’ I have comments on my appearance and what I look like quite a lot.
“I’d rather just stay away from that and help people to get to know me as a person, what I have to offer as a person and my personality.
“That’s way much more important than what anyone looks like. I can’t speak for what other people are thinking when they look at the show, but all I know is I’m having the time of my life and I’m not going to let people’s opinions effect that.
“If I’ve been born with these boobs, it’s not my fault. You know what I mean?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Williams has been unveiled as Rockhopper on ‘The Masked Singer’.
The 42-year-old star – who shot to fame as part of Destiny’s Child – has joined Aled Jones in leaving the ITV show as part of a double elimination.
The judging panel – which includes Mo Gilligan, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Rita Ora, as well as guest judge Dame Joan Collins – were all surprised when Michelle took off her mask to reveal her identity.
And following her exit, the chart-topping star said: “Oh my god, then panel … really? Y’all were getting a little warm but it took Joan to be like, ‘She’s in a girl group.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, shuck … they are gonna get it.’ But I had fun trolling you guys. I have to admit I had fun, you know … joshing y’all for it all of these weeks.”
Meanwhile, Aled was unmasked as Traffic Cone earlier in the show.
The 51-year-old star also managed to fool the judging panel.
After his exit was confirmed, Aled joked: “Can I go back to singing classical songs now?”
Aled managed to trick the judges with some of his past clues.
The ‘Walking in the Air’ hitmaker – who has enjoyed a successful career on TV and radio – previously said: “Monday to Friday is one thing, but come the weekend, the world was my oyster. Not gonna lie, life was sweet! If I bought a new crib, it’d be a house made of candy.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Danniella Westbrook has warned ‘EastEnders’ bosses there could have been “very serious consequences” as a result of not telling her they had re-cast the part of Sam Mitchell.
The 48-year-old actress played the fiery blonde throughout the 90s but was replaced by Kim Medcalf from 2002 to 2005 before reprising the role in 2009 and 2016 so she was “shocked” when it was revealed last week that Kim would be returning to the soap as their shared alter ego.
Danniella – who has battled drug addiction since she was a teenager – insisted producers had a “responsibility” to tell her the news personally and suggested it could have triggered a relapse if she wasn’t in such a good place now.
She told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “I’ve been known as Sam Mitchell for 32 years. But nobody at ‘EastEnders’ contacted me to let me know they had recast Kim in the role. There wasn’t even an email to my agent. I was shocked because they do have a responsibility to tell me and someone should have.
“The bosses have seen me go through addiction and they have no idea where I am today.
“Thankfully I’m OK. But if I hadn’t been it could have had very serious consequences for me.
Danniella previously threatened to take legal action against the BBC over the re-cast.
Posting on Twitter, she wrote: “Wishing Kim the best of luck at @BBCEastenders_ yet again this poor woman has to recreate a Samantha Mitchell as close to my last two recent come backs on the square go smash it darling..x oh but not to @bbceastenders my legal team will be in touch.(sic)
In a follow up tweet she added: “Bet you all can’t wait for my new book now can ya ….. oh it’s gonna go way back to the things I’ve never ever told #beafraidpeople #itsallgood.(sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Birds of a Feather’ will never return to TV.
The hit comedy series – which ran for nine years on BBC One from 1989 to 1998 and was brought back by ITV in 2014 – was last on screen for a special one-off episode in December 2020 and now creator Laurence Marks has confirmed he has “moved on” from the show and “can’t imagine” there being anything else to say about the characters now they are so much older.
Speaking of the programme – which starred Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke as sisters Tracey Stubbs and Sharon Theodopolopodous and Lesley Joseph as their neighbour Dorien Green – Laurence told the Daily Star Sunday newspaper: “You move on. I can’t imagine what more we could say. Also, the girls are very much older.
“When we created Sharon and Tracey, they were kids in their 20s. They had a whole sexual life in front of them and the show was all about sex. Now they’re women in their 60s, so it’s a different sort of series.
“We couldn’t have imagined we were writing something that would last for 30 years.
“I have a great deal of affection for Sharon, Tracey and Dorien. They are like friends in my life. We shared a lot of happy memories together.”
Lesley admitted last year she wasn’t expecting any more episodes of the show to be made.
She said: “I don’t think it’s going to happen again to be absolutely honest. I think after 32 years, I need to do other things. Keeping your weight down to play Dorien is not easy.
“She has to be an absolutely skinny bean and it’s not easy to lose the weight, especially when you’ve had Victoria sponge the whole of lockdown. As Dorien you could never eat that. But it’s coming off now. I’ve just lost 10lbs.
“I have lived with her for 32 but she’s now rested … rested with her heels.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Arlene Phillips is set to be a special guest judge on ‘Dancing on Ice’ later this month.
The 78-year-old star has recently been linked with the ITV skating show, and it’s now expected she will make a one-off appearance on the programme’s panel, 14 years after she was axed as a judge on BBC show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “ITV have been keen to get Arlene on board and have been talking to her for months about her guest slot on the show.
“She has decades of dance experience under her belt which producers wanted to draw on and enhance the panel even further.
“Plus, audiences will be thrilled to see her back judging on primetime TV, just as she once was on ‘Strictly’.”
Last month, Arlene admitted she wasn’t upset after ‘Strictly’ pro Oti Mabuse landed a spot on the ‘Dancing on Ice’ panel.
She said: “I love Oti [Mabuse], I can’t wait to see her. I’m actually working with Oti, she’s choreographing the Cher show which I’m directing, she’s great and she’s wonderful.”
In October, it was rumoured that Arlene was set to join the ice skating show’s judging panel.
A source said at the time: “The fact that Arlene is a mature woman with decades of experience in the dance world is seen as a huge asset for ‘Dancing on Ice’.
“In contrast to what people see as her harsh treatment by ‘Strictly’, ITV bosses see her seniority as a brilliant way to create a diverse panel of experts on the show.
“It means the ‘DOI’ judges are now made of two men and two women spanning an extensive age range.”
