Freddie Flintoff quits A League of Their Own

OHMYGOSSIP — Freddie Flintoff has quit ‘A League of Their Own’.
The former cricketer has departed the Sky series after 12 years, and the star admitted he has enjoyed an “unforgettable journey” on the show.
He wrote on his Instagram Stories: “It’s been 12 years, 16 series, 6 road trips across America Europe, 2 BAFTAs and a mud bath I’d rather forget, but now the time has come to leave the amazing ALOTO team.
“I’d like to say a huge thanks to all of you who tuned in over the years and to everyone I have worked with on the show – what an unforgettable journey it’s been.”
Freddie’s exit comes after it was announced in June last year that ‘A League of Their Own’ panellist Romesh Ranganathan was replacing James Corden as the show’s host.
The comedian was in the hot seat for the 16th series of the Sky show, as ‘Gavin and Stacey’ star James was unable to appear due to existing work commitments.
‘King Gary’ actor Romesh said: “I’m over the moon to be taking over the hosting duties and looking forward to being back in the studio with Jamie, Freddie, our guests and the live audience.
“I’m truly honoured to be the new host of such a successful show.
“I know Jamie and Freddie are delighted because they often talk about what a hero I am to both of them.”
Freddie’s fellow former panellist Jack Whitehall departed the show in 2018 after six years.
He said at the time: “I’ve actually made the decision to leave ‘A League of Their Own’.
“I’m leaving because my schedule is very busy. I love doing it but I can’t do it for ever and I want to explore new opportunities — I would like to do more in America.”

Chris Hughes injures neck in car crash

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Hughes has injured his neck following a car crash.
The former ‘Love Island’ star admitted his motor has been left in a “sorry state” after the Sunday night (13.02.22) smash, but his girlfriend Annabel Dimmock left him some painkillers, a muscle rub and a drink with the note: “For my brave boy”.
He wrote on Instagram Stories: “Had a crash on the motorway last night and my cars in a sorry state, necks sore but home to this.”
The ITV Racing co-host was grateful for two other motorists who stopped to help him.
He wrote: “Not fun but two amazing people stopped to help and they were the best. One was in the RAF and the other just came from work, so thanks both.
“I was actually useless in the situation and a little meh, so didn’t know what to do.”
The couple celebrated Valentine’s Day (14.02.22) together at Annabel’s parents’ house, where she had arranged for an outdoor cinema experience for her and Chris.
And the crash didn’t appear to affect Chris’ appetite as he shared a video last night of the pair chowing down on fish and chips with curry sauce.
Last year, Chris admitted he had put on some weight during the coronavirus lockdown, but insisted he was happier since losing his six-pack.
He said: “Some days all I want to do is just eat.
“When I did that ice bath challenge I was like, ‘God, my body does not look like it did four years ago in ‘Love Island’.
“But I’m happy in my own skin. It doesn’t make me any less happy with what I am now.
“If I’ve got a holiday coming up I might get in the gym for a month beforehand.
“But I don’t really enjoy going, if I’m honest. I just occasionally set foot in there for about 20 minutes and get out.”

David Fincher has no idea why Fight Club’s ending was changed by Chinese censors

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Fight Club’ director David Fincher has no idea why the movie’s ending was changed by Chinese censors.
The 1999 movie was altered for its airing on streamer Tencent Video – although it has now been restored to its original form – and the filmmaker admitted the situation “made no sense” to him.
He told Empire magazine: “Here’s what we know. A company licensed the film from New Regency to show it in China, with a boilerplate [contract]: ‘You have to understand cuts may be made for censorship purposes.’
“No one said, ‘If we don’t like the ending, can we change it?’ So there’s now a discussion being had as to what ‘trims’ means.
“If you don’t like this story, why would you license this movie? It makes no sense to me when people go, ‘I think it would be good for our service if we had your title on it… we just want it to be a different movie.’
“The f****** movie is 20 years old. It’s not like it had a reputation for being super cuddly.”
The 59-year-old director noted how the movie’s altered ending was actually quite close to Chuck Palahniuk’s original ‘Fight Club’ novel, which sees the Narrator – played by Edward Norton in the movie adaptation – in an asylum after surviving a failed suicide attempt when Project Mayhem falls through.
The Chinese censors’ ending saw ‘Tyler’ (Brad Pitt) admitted to an asylum after getting caught by police before rehabilitating and going back into society.
Fincher added: “It’s funny to me that the people who wrote the Band-Aid [ending] in China must have read the book, because it adheres pretty closely.”
In the end, censors have reversed the decision, although no explanation has been given.

Denis Villeneuve ‘deeply pleased’ with Dune’s Oscar nods – despite Best Director snub

OHMYGOSSIP — Denis Villeneuve insists he’s “deeply pleased” with the Oscar nods for ‘Dune’ – despite his director snub.
The 54-year-old filmmaker helmed the first of a planned two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 classic sci-fi novel of the same name and admitted being recognised by the Academy is “really moving” as it was unexpected.
Speaking in an interview with MovieMaker, Villeneuve said: “Frankly, if you had told me a few months ago that we’d be in the Oscar race, that we’d have that kind of recognition, I would have not believed you. It’s really moving.
“If you’re nominated, it’s a beautiful thing … I don’t take things for granted, and I was deeply pleased with what we got.”
The movie earned 10 nominations in total, including Best Picture, but failed to make the shortlist for Best Director.
Josh Brolin recently slammed the Academy for the lack of nomination for Villeneuve.
The 54-year-old star – who plays Gurney Halleck in the motion picture – called the move “really dumb”.
He fumed: “I don’t know how you get 10 nominations and then the guy who has done the impossible with that book doesn’t get nominated. It makes you realise that it’s all amazing and then it’s all f****** totally dumb. So congratulations for the amazing accomplishments that these incredibly talented people have been acknowledged for, because it’s all really, really dumb.”
‘Dune’ is the second most-nominated movie at the upcoming ceremony.
‘The Power of the Dog’ leads with 12 nods.
Jane Campion’s Western drama leads the way, earning recognition in the most prestigious categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor for Benedict Cumberbatch, Best Supporting Actress for Kirsten Dunst and Best Supporting Actor for both Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jesse Plemons.
The Oscars ceremony will take place on March 27, and it’s just been reported that Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes are in final talks to host.

Chloe Madeley pregnant

OHMYGOSSIP — Chloe Madeley is pregnant.
The 34-year-old star – who is the daughter of Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan – took to Instagram to reveal she and her husband James Haskell are expecting their first child together.
She shared a picture of their baby scan, and wrote: “Little one.”
Former rugby player James also revealed the news on ‘Good Morning Britain’, as his father-in-law Richard was co-hosting the show.
He said: “Chloe and I are expecting our first child, we’re going to be having a little girl.”
Former England star James then turned to Richard, and he said: “You are going to be a grandad once again.”
A picture of the couple’s three-month scan then popped up on the screen and Richard said: “That’s the little girl. Looks like she’s reading the paper!”
James joked: “Let’s hope she has her mother’s looks, because if she looks anything like me we’re in a spot of bother.”
Chloe will no doubt seek some parenting advice from her father and mother.
The star revealed last year she gets advice from Richard if she’s had a dispute with James.
She said: “If I call my dad up and James and I have had an argument, he will counsel me through it.
“One of my biggest downfalls as a person is I find it hard to let things go and move on.
“So, my dad will always tell me, ‘Let it go Chloe, this is ridiculous.’ He’ll put me in my place.
“But then at the same time, if he thinks James has done something wrong, he’ll say, ‘Stand your ground.’ ”

OHMYGOSSIP — Brendan Cole will form an all-male partnership with Brendyn Hatfield on this weekend’s ‘Dancing on Ice’, after his pro partner Vanessa Bauer pulled out the show after testing positive for COVID.
The former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro will join forces with Brendyn – who previously partnered singer Rachel Stevens earlier in the series – while Vanessa completes her coronavirus isolation period.
A ‘Dancing on Ice’ spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, Vanessa Bauer is unable to skate this weekend after testing positive for Covid-19. We look forward to Vanessa returning to the competition soon.
“Brendan Cole will still perform in this Sunday’s show and will be partnered with professional skater Brendyn Hatfield.”
While Brendan is “absolutely gutted” to miss out on partnering with Vanessa once again, he is delighted about forming an all-male partnership with Brendyn.
He said: “I am absolutely gutted that Vanessa is unable to skate this weekend.
“I know she would have put together another fantastic routine.
“However, and with Vanessa’s blessing I’ve been given an amazing opportunity to create something fantastic for Musicals Week with Brendyn.
“He’s an exceptionally talented skater and I have no doubt we will be able to create something really special for the show! I can’t thank him enough for stepping in.”

Peaky Blinders documentary to accompany final series

OHMYGOSSIP — A ‘Peaky Blinders’ documentary is to accompany the forthcoming final series.
The BBC One period drama’s sixth series is expected to begin later this month, and to coincide with the show, a double helping of ‘The Real Peaky Blinders’ will look at the real-life gang of Victorian Birmingham in the 1800s, who inspired the hit programme.
A TV insider said: “This will be a treat for devotees of the drama, some of whom may not have been aware that it was based on a true story.”
The documentary is expected to feature some “fascinating” and “quite shocking” tales of the real-life gang of the same name, who are said to have got their moniker from stitching razor blades into the peak of their caps.
The insider added to The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Though the gangs which inspired the Shelby clan are different in many ways, the similarities are fascinating and in many cases quite shocking.
“The documentary is a fitting way to help mark the end of the ‘Peaky Blinders’ TV phenomenon which has hooked viewers for the past nine years.”
Cillian Murphy – who plays gang leader Tommy Shelby in the BBC show – recently admitted he hopes the new season will “live up to the memory” of his late co-star Helen McCrory.
Helen died last April following a secret battle with cancer, and she was unable to film any scenes as Aunt Polly for the upcoming sixth series of the drama.
But her co-star Cillian insisted her character’s presence is still “very much felt”.
He said: “I think the whole series is really in tribute to her and to honour her. Her presence and her character’s presence are very much still felt in the series, and it is very much part of Tommy’s journey in the season.
“It’ll be different without her, you know. It simply won’t be the same. I’ve spoken about how phenomenal she was as an actress and as a person and it is an enormous loss to the whole acting community and not just for our show.
“My thoughts are always with Damian [Lewis] and her kids. I just hope that the show will live up to her memory and our memory of her.”

Wonder Twins movie in development

OHMYGOSSIP — A ‘Wonder Twins’ film is in the works.
Warner Bros. have tapped Adam Sztykiel – who has worked as a screenwriter on the upcoming film ‘Black Adam’ – to write and direct the original live-action feature based on the DC characters for the streaming service HBO Max.
Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are producing the movie for Temple Hill – the prolific banner behind flicks such as ‘The Twilight Saga’ and ‘The Fault In Our Stars’.
The Wonder Twins are a pair of aliens siblings called Zen and Jayna. The duo were imprinted in the minds of television viewers thanks to their appearances on ‘The All-New Super Friends Hour’ as companions to adult superheroes such as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman.
The twins then appeared in the ‘Super Friends’ comic before being incorporated into the wider DC universe.
The pair were known for their catchphrase, ‘Wonder Twin power, activate!’, which was said before Jayna transformed into an animal while Zen turned into various shapes of water.
The characters became the butt of jokes but DC have attempted to make them more trendy by including them in episodes of ‘Teen Titans Go!’, ‘Smallville’ and ‘The Flash’.
A plot for the project is yet to be revealed but Adam has a long history with Warner Bros. after collaborating on the movies ‘Due Date’, ‘Spy Guys’ and ‘We’re the Millers’.
Adam has been working on the movie ‘Black Adam’, which is slated for release this summer, and its star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has told fans that they can expect a “unique” film.
He wrote on Instagram: “Appreciate you guys so much for all the BLACK ADAM support – I think we’re making a movie and creating a universe that’s definitive, unique, bad a** and cool. (sic)”

Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr cast in Skeletons In The Closet

OHMYGOSSIP — Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr are to star in the horror movie ‘Skeletons In The Closet’.
The pair will lead the new flick from director Lance Kawas, with filming set to get underway in Las Vegas this week.
The film tells the story about how the spirit of La Llorona grants a costly wish to the parents of a child by curing her of cancer. In saving the child, the mother loses her beloved husband and pledges her allegiance to La Llorona after developing an evil streak.
The father (Howard) spirals down a path of self-destruction after borrowing a large amount of money from a ruthless mobster to pay for his daughter’s hospital bills.
Clifton Powell and Valery M. Ortiz are also starring in the flick, which Kawas is directing from a script penned by Koji Steven Sakai and Joshua A. Cohen. The project is based on an original story by Al Bravo.
Bravo, Asif Akbar, Sakai, Colin Bates and Stan Erdreich are all producers on the film.
Meanwhile, Terrence once vowed that he would never return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – after playing James Rhodes in the first ‘Iron Man’ movie before being replaced by Don Cheadle – due to a now patched-up row with Robert Downey Jr, who played the metal-clad superhero.
The 52-year-old actor said: “You know what’s so funny? Even though I love Don Cheadle so much and I love what he’s done, I still hear a lot of fans asking, ‘Am I going to come back and be War Machine? Am I going to come back and be War Machine?’
“I think they could have a huge franchise off of it. But f*** ’em.”

Natalie Imbruglia was convinced Charlotte Church would win The Masked Singer

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Imbruglia was convinced Charlotte Church would win ‘The Masked Singer’.
The Australian pop star – who was revealed as Panda and crowned the winner in the ITV series last weekend – was gobsmacked at the result after she beat off competition from Mushroom (Charlotte) to triumph, and the former ‘Neighbours’ actress was just as shocked as many fans were.
Natalie, 47, said: “I was convinced that Mushroom had won it so I was just as gobsmacked.
“I think it’s wonderful that people are so invested in the person that they’re a fan of, or that they’re following, that they feel so strongly about it. But my experience being on the show was just such amazing camaraderie.
“It’s a fun family show. I don’t think it should be seriously competitive in that way.
“And I would hope that the overarching thing is that people just really enjoyed the fun that we all had on the show. Everybody’s a winner.”
The ‘Masked Singer’ judges, Rita Ora, Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, and Jonathan Ross, were impressed by Natalie’s rendition of Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’, before she went on to perform a duet with Jason Manford, who was unmasked as Hedgehog back in season one.
Natalie has had a long standing friendship with Davina for many years, and admitted the former ‘Big Brother’ presenter was messaging her after the show in disbelief.
She added to The Sun newspaper: “Davina was DMing me [after the show] going, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe that.’
“And we’re having this back-and-forth chat. She said, ‘I don’t think it’s sunk into you that you’ve just won an eight week competition’, and it’s true, I wasn’t expecting to win.
“But yeah, she was really funny and she was talking about the host [Joel Dommett] because he was quite freaked out that I’ve been hugging him all week.
“So that was quite funny.”

Alison Steadman and Katherine Parkinson to star in comedy series Here We Go

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Steadman and Katherine Parkinson are to star in comedy series ‘Here We Go’.
The actresses – who are known for their roles in ‘Gavin and Stacey’ and ‘The IT Crowd’ respectively – will appear in the sitcom which focuses on the “highs and lows” of the multigenerational Jessop family, following on from a successful pilot which was broadcast in 2020 under the title of ‘Pandemonium’.”
In a statement, the BBC said: “‘Here We’ Go follows the highs and lows of the Jessop family as they navigate a combination of life’s everyday challenges – changing careers, keeping the romance alive within a marriage, adopting a healthier lifestyle, kidnapping a dog, destroying a swimming pool and sabotaging a wedding.”
Starring alongside Alison and Katherine will be ‘Sex Education’ actor Jim Howick, After Life’s Tom Basden, Freya Parks (‘School’s Out Forever’), and Tori Allen-Martin (‘London Kills’).
The BBC added: “Having filmed his family’s disastrous attempt to carve out a holiday in the midst of the pandemic in the 2020 pilot episode, the series sees youngest son Sam continue to document the Jessop family across the year.
“Moving back and forward in time, each episode offers an intimate, observed and absurd exposé of a modern British family doing its best to support each other, if accidentally annoying everyone else in the process.”
The show will consist of six 30-minute episodes and will be penned by series star Tom.
‘Plebs’ star Tom said: “I’m delighted to be bringing the Jessop family to BBC One this year. Hopefully their spectacular failures will make the rest of us feel a bit better about ourselves.”

Call the Midwife limits amount of blood shown in Christmas specials

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Call the Midwife’ has to limit the amount of blood shown in the Christmas specials.
The period drama’s creator Heidi Thomas has told how the programme gets into “a minor negotiation” with BBC bosses about the amount of bodily fluids that can be seen on screen as viewers are tucking into their Christmas Day leftovers.
She told Radio Times magazine: “Every so often we get into a minor negotiation with them about the amount of blood you can see on Christmas Day.”
It comes as fans of the BBC One show were left with a dramatic cliff-hanger following the season finale on Sunday (13.02.22) as there was speculation that Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) and Doctor Patrick Turner – who is played by Heidi’s husband Stephen McGann – could have been killed off, as both appear to have been left for dead after a train crash.
After being asked how she could get rid of such beloved characters, Heidi said: “I’m a very daring woman.”
The show – which is based on the book ‘Call The Midwife: A True Story of the East End in the 1950s’ by Jennifer Worth – has been renewed for two more seasons, bringing the story to 1969.
Heidi added: “I don’t see us running out of stories any time soon.”
Recently, Helen George – who plays nurse Trixie – hit back at viewers who were upset that she had filmed the show while pregnant.
The 39-year-old actress tweeted: “I’ve seen too many ridiculous comments about my pregnancy whilst filming @CallTheMidwife1 ( also thank you for the lovely comments!) (sic)”
Helen – who welcomed her second daughter Lark in June, with her co-star Jack Ashton – insisted viewers shouldn’t “question” her body.
The star – who also has a four-year-old daughter Wren – added: “Women get pregnant, our bodies change. But we have the right to work if we choose to do so. How about just supporting it, and don’t question it? (sic)”

Helen Mirren: The BBC must be ‘protected’

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Helen Mirren says the BBC must be “protected” at all costs.
The 76-year-old actress called the broadcasting organisation an “amazing thing” and she “strongly believes” it must be safeguarded amid uncertainty over its funding in the future.
She said: “I strongly believe that the BBC has to be protected … It’s such an amazing thing, especially when you live in a country, like I do in America a lot of the time, which doesn’t have anything like the BBC.”
Helen – whose latest project sees her play Dorothy Bunton in ‘The Duke’ – went on to hit out at “beady-eyed politicians” for “attacking” the organisation following the news that the fee could be scrapped in 2027.
She told Radio Times magazine: “It’s so interesting that as politicians find themselves teetering on the pinnacle of their ambition, they all turn their beady eyes on the BBC because the BBC is turning its beady eyes on them. And they can’t stand it, one after the other, they attack the BBC – and that is exactly why we need the BBC.”
In biopic ‘The Duke’, the actress stars alongside fellow Oscar winner Jim Broadbent, who takes on the leading role of Kempton Bunton, a man accused of stealing the famous Duke of Wellington portrait from the National Gallery in the 1960s.
The 72-year-old star also spoke out about the BBC, claiming that if his character were alive today he would be “fighting to save” the broadcaster.
He said: “If Kempton was around now, he would be fighting to save the BBC; he’d be on the side of the BBC, against the government.”

Chloe added: “It was such a fantastic experience filming with the BBC for ‘Hot Property’.

“This guy’s energy is amazing and we got up to some right mischief scoping round the three properties.
“I definitely didn’t expect to find what we found, and my final date was very different to what I’m used to. But I loved the whole experience!”

Harry Redknapp is ‘excited’ to be writing a book with wife Sandra

OHMYGOSSIP — Harry Redknapp is “excited” to be writing a book with his wife Sandra.
The ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ winner is co-authoring a tome, titled ‘When Harry Met Sandra’, with his significant other in which they will tell all about their love and the “highs and lows from 50 years of marriage”.
The 74-year-old football manager wrote on Instagram: “Sandra and I are excited to reveal that we’re releasing a book together later this year sharing our love, highs and lows from 50 years of marriage. We have so many stories that we can’t wait to share with you all. ‘When Harry Met Sandra’, on sale this Autumn.”
Harry tied the knot with Sandra, 75, in 1967 and he shared plenty of insight into their marriage during his time on ‘I’m A Celebrity’ in 2018.
He told his fellow campmates: “Even when I’m out, I ring her 10 times a day. She’s my life. I’m a bit scared actually, getting older.
“I do love her too much, if anything happened it would just kill me. We just get on so well, I only want to be with her. I can never wait to see her.”
Sandra – who surprised Harry with an appearance in the jungle – admitted these comments were both “quite embarrassing” and “really nice”.
She said: “He just doesn’t realise that everybody is hearing him say things and talking about me, it’s quite embarrassing really.
“He doesn’t realise the public are seeing him saying things, which is very nice. It’s very flattering after 54 years. You don’t often hear him say things, so to hear him say that is really nice.”

Scott Derrickson ‘excited’ by Doctor Strange sequel trailer

OHMYGOSSIP — Scott Derrickson has praised the new trailer for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.
The 55-year-old filmmaker had helmed the original Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie before dropping out of the sequel due to creative differences but is excited to see the flick – which is now being directed by Sam Raimi – after a new trailer aired during the Super Bowl on Sunday (13.02.22).
In a tweet responding to a fan on Monday (14.02.22), Scott said: “The trailer is great and of course I’m excited!
“I love Sam – he was the right director for this one, just as ‘The Black Phone’ was the right film for me to go make. All is good.”
The ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel is set to be released in May and will see Benedict Cumberbatch reprise his role as the titular superhero, with ‘The Power of the Dog’ actor previously expressing regret that Scott had dropped out of the project.
Benedict said: “I was sad to hear about it, but that was not my decision.
“I completely respected the studio’s decision, and it was done very amicably.
“The grown-ups called and just talked me through it. And that was that.”
Scott’s frequent collaborator C. Robert Cargill did suggest that the director had left the project to focus on ‘The Black Phone’ after Marvel wanted a different approach to the ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel.
He said: “It was creative differences. (Scott Derrickson) wanted to do one movie, and Marvel wanted to do another movie.
“So he sat there and said, ‘Well s***, I’ve got this great script that I wrote with Cargill, and I’m really proud of it.'”
