OHMYGOSSIP — Louise Jameson thinks stopping dying her hair helped her land an ‘Emmerdale’ role.
The 70-year-old star made her first appearance in the ITV soap as Rhona Goskirk’s mother Mary on Tuesday evening (01.03.22), and she thinks embracing her naturally white tresses has given her career a boost.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “It’s extraordinary, but literally, since I’ve stopped dyeing my hair, there’s been lots of work coming in. I’ve had eight or nine offers,” says Louise.
“I thought it would be the opposite, but no, work’s actually expanded for me. Some actors try to look younger and manage it brilliantly, but I think if there’s an air of desperation about trying to hang on to your youth, then it does limit your casting.
“I’m very happy being 70 and letting my hair go white and not going down the Botox route. I think that age has to be embraced naturally.”
The former ‘EastEnders’ actress – who previously played Rosa di Marco on the BBC show – admitted she has never planned for retirement.
She explained: “My dad was an insurance broker and he sold life policies. I can remember him saying, ‘We’ve really got to get you a pension sorted’. And I said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll be working right up until the day I die’.
“This was way back when I was 20. I never ever anticipated retiring. I write now and direct too, so I’ve got fingers in lots of pies.”
Louise – who actually appeared in ‘Emmerdale’ 50 years ago as the soap’s first ever murder victim – was keen to make sure her new character Mary wasn’t an old person just “represented in cardigans and on Zimmer frames”.
She added: “I was going to talk to ‘Emmerdale’ about it when I went in for the chat. But before I’d drawn breath, they gave me an outline of where she was heading and it stopped me in my tracks. It was better than anything I could have come up with.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ champion Rose Ayling-Ellis has won an Inspirational Person of the Year award.
The 27-year-old actress – who took home the Glitterball Trophy alongside pro dance partner Giovanni Pernice, 31, in last year’s series of the BBC Latin and ballroom competition – triumphed at the Visionary Honours Awards ceremony at BAFTA, central London, last night (01.03.22).
The ‘EastEnders’ actress received the accolade from Tim Campbell, a former ‘The Apprentice’ winner and now Lord Sugar’s aide on the show.
It comes after Rose made history after she was crowned the first deaf winner of ‘Strictly’, and she is also an advocate for British Sign Language and has campaigned for it to become a legally-recognised language.
The Visionary Honours Awards, which first launched in 2019, celebrates culture, media and entertainment that has made an impact by inspiring change or fuelling a debate.
Rose – who plays Frankie Lewis in the BBC One soap – was among a number of stars who were recognised for their achievements at the event, which was hosted by Sir Lenny Henry.
Actress and screenwriter Michaela Coel, who is best known for her work on ‘Chewing Gum’ and ‘I May Destroy You’, was handed the Outstanding Achievement accolade, and legendary newsreader Sir Trevor McDonald received the Legacy Honour.
Writer Russell T Davies was awarded the Television Show of the Year gong for his hard-hitting Channel 4 drama ‘It’s A Sin’, which focused on the AIDS crisis in the 1980s.

OHMYGOSSIP — CiCi Coleman has been hospitalised and put on a drip during a holiday in Bali.
The ‘First Dates’ star – who serves as head waitress on the Channel 4 show – is spending time discovering herself in South-East Asia, but she revealed things took a turn for the worse as she is suffering with “Bali belly”.
Speaking in an Instagram video, she said: “It’s all fun and games until it gets you. Currently laying in the medical centre somewhere in Bali. I’ve got Bali belly, which is a well-known thing here.
“There’s so much bacteria in all the food here, it’s kind of swept me off my feet a little bit. I’m just hydrating on a drip and then hopefully I’ll be back to my normal self.”
Thankfully, the 35-year-old star was in a better place after her treatment.
She later added: “Thanks for the messages. Feeling much better after the drip. Chillaxing and taking it easy.”
Her trip to Bali comes after CiCi revealed she wanted 2022 to be a “year of growth”, and told how she had a list of goals for the year.
She wrote: “Working on my tan, working on remembering to pack a bikini, working on having a day off, working on less filters, working on stepping outside of the box, working on letting go, working on lowering expectations, working on acceptance, working on my perception of other peoples perception, working on my calm.
“Looking forward to another year of growth. Bring on 2022, let’s ‘av’ it. (sic)”
As well as her work on ‘First Dates’ alongside Fred Sirieix, she has also appeared on short films ‘Sleep’ and ‘Beautiful Girls’, as well as appearing alongside the likes of Danniella Westbrook and Michael McKell in ‘Essex Vendetta’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Feltz loves to spice up her sex life by leaving a trail of vegetables for her partner to follow into the bedroom.
The 60-year-old star admitted she and Ben Ofoedu, 49, have never had a “fallow period” during their sex life, and she believes it would be “unusual” if more than a week went by and they hadn’t got jiggy with it.
And TV presenter Vanessa admits she and Ben often send each other “saucy” WhatsApp messages to hint sex is on the cards later that day, and the couple like to try out different things in the bedroom, such as getting creative with food and writing love notes on toothbrushes.
She said: “It might be with what I wear, or what I don’t wear, the room that we’re doing it in, or the position.
“Recently I was cooking dinner, and ended up leaving a vegetable trail into the bedroom for him. I was there waiting for him on the bed, in what I hope was an alluring position.
“Other times, I’ve left a note where his toothbrush is, which will read, ‘I’m waiting upstairs for you.’
“It takes about 10 seconds to do. It’s not a big deal, it’s not theatrical or stupid.
“And I’ve even bought a single punnet of strawberries, and said we will have dessert in bed tonight. Obviously be careful of the bed sheets, though.”
Vanessa turned 60 last month, but the star insists that despite hitting the milestone, her and Ben’s sex life hasn’t diminished since they first got together in 2006.
In a piece for The Sun newspaper, she added: “I am still loving everything I used to like when I was 18, and that includes sex.
“I say it time and time again, and no younger person believes me, but you don’t suddenly change into an old person.
“You don’t wake up one day, and all of a sudden you’re a different person and you really want to wear elasticated-waist trousers and start using a Stannah lift. Nothing has changed and that includes my sex life.
My libido hasn’t increased but it hasn’t decreased.
“I haven’t noticed a marked decline at all in that department, like I don’t with my appetite for chips or for buying some red stilettos.
“It’s just like how people like chocolate, or Frank Sinatra’s music. If you like it, you like it.
“Mine and Ben’s sex life is still the same as when we first got together in 2006.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Saunders is teaming up with the English National Opera for a new series.
The 63-year-old star is set to front ‘From Couch to Opera House (in 7 weeks)’ on Classic FM, with the weekly show launching on Sunday (06.03.22) at 9pm as the radio station celebrates its 30th year.
The announcement comes after Jennifer – with the ENO – was one of five comedians to learn the iconic aria Nessun Dorma in just 24 hours for a live charity TV performance.
She said in a statement: “After dipping my toe into the world of opera last year for a wonderful charitable cause and the English National Opera, I’m thrilled to present this new series on Classic FM without having to actually sing.”
Each of the hour-long programmes will focus on a different theme, from love (both satisfied and unrequited) and turmoil to conflict and comedy.
Every episode will feature a “relevant and rich accompaniment of opera music spanning five centuries”.
Philip Noyce, Classic FM’s Managing Editor, said: “It’s very exciting to be teaming up with Jennifer Saunders and the English National Opera for our new series ‘From Couch to Opera House (in 7 weeks)’ in our special 30th anniversary year.
“One of our central aims at Classic FM is to make classical music available and accessible to everyone, so I’m thrilled that we’re working with someone of Jennifer’s calibre to help us challenge any preconceptions about what opera is and who can enjoy it.

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’ star Samantha Giles believes “it’s time” for the soap’s Meena Jutla serial killer storyline to finish.
The 50-year old actress, who plays Bernice Blackstock in the ITV show, has addressed the ongoing storyline, which has seen Meena (Paige Sandhu) go on a reign of terror in the village.
Speaking on the ‘Wonderbirds’ YouTube show, Samantha said: “That’s about to come to a head … I think it is. I’m in the show and I don’t really ever watch it, which is awful.
“You know what it’s like, it’s that time when you’re either putting the kids to bed or you’re getting dinner or whatever, but I know that it’s very close to coming to a head.
“I think it’s probably timely – lots of people have said that they’ve enjoyed it, but you know, come on, it’s time for it to end.”
Paige previously admitted Meena was not afraid to die.
She said: “I don’t think that she is. Meena is so confident and arrogant that she believes no one would ever be able to get the better of her. Psychopaths are incapable of feeling fear.
“It would be more exciting than anything else – there’s a line in Peter Pan I always think about where he says: ‘I think to die would be an awfully great adventure.’ I think Meena would feel the same thing, it would be an inappropriate reaction to death.”
And the 25-year-old star recently confirmed she is leaving the soap, and teased a dramatic end for her character.
She said: ”This is the beginning of the end for Meena but there’s more drama to come!”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Sex Education’ was the big winner at the inaugural National Comedy Awards for Stand Up to Cancer, scooping four gongs.
The Netflix comedy-drama triumphed in the Best Scripted Comedy category, beating off competition from ‘Ghosts’, ‘This Way Up’, and ‘Motherland’.
‘Sex Education’ stars Emma Mackey, Asa Butterfield, and Ncuti Gatwa all won in their individual categories, winning Outstanding Comedy Actress, Outstanding Comedy Actor, and Outstanding Supporting Role respectively.
Upon receiving his accolade, Asa jokingly thanked “thousands of Brazilian teenage girls” for voting.
Elsewhere at the ceremony, which took place at the Camden Roundhouse in London on Wednesday evening (02.03.22), Harry Hill led a special tribute to his late friend Sean Lock, who died last year aged 58.
Later in the evening, Sean was announced as the winner of the Outstanding Male Comedy Entertainment Performance for ‘8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’.
Sir Billy Connolly was awarded the Victoria Wood Lifetime Achievement Award, and Sharon Horgan also received a special recognition prize, the Caroline Aherne Outstanding Achievement in Writing Award.
Ricky Gervais triumphed in the Best Stand-Up Show category, and Katherine Ryan won the Outstanding Female Comedy Entertainment Performance for ‘8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’.
Speaking about Jimmy Carr’s roast jokes as she collected her award, the star said: “That’s a genre of comedy he happens to be the best at, and I think it’s really important that we all protect that genre, even if people get offended by it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Changing Rooms’ is expected to return for a second series.
The home improvement show – which first aired on the BBC from 1996 to 2004 – was revived by Channel 4 last year after 17 years, with returning style guru Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, and Anna Richardson replaced previous host Carol Smillie.
The show’s bosses are said to be giving the reboot another go, with filming due to begin “shortly”.
An insider said: “The producers are determined to make it work, with filming set to start shortly and the second season airing later this year.”
Channel 4 bosses are hoping the show’s audience will grow with a second series.
The insider added to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: “Channel 4 are convinced it just needs to find a new audience in addition to those who might tune in just out of nostalgia.
“They always faced something of a challenge given Carol wasn’t on the show, and there was also a new line-up of interior designers and craftsmen on the reboot.
“Plus, there are so many other shows that have a similar format, and it had to compete with them.”
In August, Laurence admitted he was glad the show had a “reinvention”.
Asked if he wanted Carol to return as host, he said: “No, and hand on heart, what the producers and what Channel 4 have done is actually very clever. They have moved on and it wouldn’t have worked if it had been ‘Jurassic Park’ – it had to be a reinvention.
“And to be fair, I resisted it for a long time. I was very keen that they really should look at finding possibilities with other people.
“Otherwise, it would just be a revival, actually it always needed to be a reboot.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Neighbours’ is officially ending this summer.
The long-running Australian soap’s future was uncertain after Channel 5 announced last month it wouldn’t be airing the show after August, which left producers looking for new funding options, but to no avail.
A spokesperson for Fremantle said: “It is with sadness that after nearly 37 years and almost 9,000 episodes broadcast, we are confirming that ‘Neighbours’ will cease production in the summer.
“Following the loss of a key broadcast partner in the UK, and despite a search for alternative funding, we currently have no option but to rest the show.
“Everyone at ‘Neighbours’ has been overwhelmed by the love and support from the audience since the news came out.
“The show has brought a sunny slice of Australia into the homes of millions of viewers around the world launching the careers of dozens of household names along the way.
“But as this chapter of Ramsay Street comes to a close, we promise to do everything we can to give the show the send-off it deserves.”
Last month, Channel 5 revealed the broadcaster would be focused on “original UK drama” instead.
A spokesperson said at the time: “Neighbours’ will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer.
“It’s been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series.
“We’d also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of Neighbours across the years.
“We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers.”
When they acquired the rights to the soap, Channel 5 largely funded the production costs for the show because it was not commercially viable for Australian broadcaster Network 10 to fund the Fremantle Media-produced show alone.
