OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Dyer is a “natural ginger”.
The 44-year-old actor, who starred in 2006 football film ‘All In The Game’ alongside Rey Winstone, has confessed he dyed his hair in order to land the supporting role of a football manager’s son, but the actor couldn’t get the ginger dye out of his hair for months afterwards.
He said: “I’d done Football Factory and I really wanted this job. It was about football, Ray was a football manager and I played his son.
“But the director had an issue with me.
“He thought because of ‘Football Factory’, I was going to bring the wrong vibe to the job. Hooligans running around, that sort of stuff.
“But he said ‘Listen, the only way I can give you this job is if you dye your hair ginger. Ray was ginger when he was younger and you’re playing his son.’
“So I thought, ‘F*** it.’ You do anything for acting. So, I dyed it and it looked awful.
“I think I’ve got a slight bit of ginge about me anyway, so it brought it all out. When we went to the read-through I walked into it with a ginger nut.
“The fall out from that was I couldn’t get the ginger out. It took f***ing months and months of me trying to dye it.
“I think maybe I’m a natural ginger.”
The ‘EastEnders’ star, who will be leaving the BBC soap this year as Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter after nine years on the show, is hoping to branch out into comedy after his exit.
Speaking on the ‘Sorted With the Dyers’ podcast, he added: “This is something I want to delve into a little bit as well.
“You’ve got to follow your dreams. Because otherwise, what have you got? All of us should follow our dreams as human beings.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Delia Smith refuses to watch ‘MasterChef’.
The 80-year-old TV chef admitted she’s never tuned into Gregg Wallace and John Torode’s BBC cooking competition because she gets annoyed by their critical approach.
Asked if she’s ever watched the show, she said: “No. I spent all my time telling people, ‘You can do this’ and they’re undoing it.
“They’re saying, ‘No, you’ll never be able to do this’. What?”
The ‘How To Cook’ host also hit out at the show’s use of kitchen gadgets, including a sous vide machine, which warms water to a constant temperature using a metal coil, which allows the cook to keep the process gradual and controlled.
However, she told the ‘How To Fail With Elizabeth Day’ podcast: “How could anybody possibly ever want a sous vide machine?
“I mean it’s what Elizabeth David called ‘theatre on a plate’. She had it in one. That’s what it is. These little dots and foams, it’s theatre.”
And while she has read some of her rivals’ cookbooks for some inspiration on occasion, she doesn’t want to make a habit of it.
She explained: “Sometimes. I think some of them are over-complicated. Half of them I don’t know what the ingredients are, I’ve never heard of it. Two tablespoons of what? I don’t know what they are.
“But on the whole I think it’s really lazy. But I don’t really look at [them] so I can’t honestly say.
“I just see these plates and they’re always hanging on the wall. I call it overhead photography, you know. And there’s all colour everywhere, and I’m thinking, ‘Ooh, I don’t want to eat that.’ ”
When it comes to her own style, Delia suggested her success comes from being good at “communicating”.
She said: “If I had another life now, I’d like to study literature. And I think that things get overwritten.
“What I’m trying to say is that communication is trying to reach people. And I think to reach them it’s got to be simple and direct.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeff Hordley took a break from ‘Emmerdale’ because he hadn’t “ticked all the boxes” he wanted to.
The 51-year-old actor, who has played Cain Dingle in the ITV soap since 2000, first exited the show in 2006, before making a comeback three years later in 2009, and he has now opened up about why he departed the programme.
He said: “I think I just got to a point where I wanted a [change] because I’d only been four years out of drama school so I kind of thought I had not quite ticked all the boxes I wanted to.
“I wanted to work in London and things like that and I left wanting to fulfil those things. During those three years out of it, I kind of managed to do that.
“I never really thought about whether [Cain] would turn into the part he’s turned into.”
Jeff admitted he was initially offered a three-month contract before it was extended to a year.
During his time away from the Yorkshire Dales, the soap star was able to pursue other career opportunities, such as starring in the production of ‘Mother Goose’ at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley, and playing Napoleon in George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ at Leeds’ West Yorkshire Playhouse in 2008.
Jeff has insisted to fans who loved Cain’s “nasty” side that the character couldn’t have stayed that way forever, otherwise he would’ve been “written out”.
Speaking on ‘Mik Artistik’s Ego Podcast’, he added: “As the years have gone on he’s mellowed because the older you get you do mellow and that’s realistic,
“I think sometimes you see people who love the show and go, ‘I prefer him when he was nasty.’
“But it’s not realistic because if he was like that all the time in a few years he would do something so bad he’d have to get written out of the show.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Davina McCall’s dad’s death will leave an “enormous hole in her life”.
The 54-year-old TV presenter’s father Andrew passed away on Monday night (28.02.22), but she is “so grateful” he wasn’t in pain and that she was able to be by his side in his final moments.
She wrote on Instagram: “My Dad , Andrew , died on Monday night . He took a turn for the worse on Sunday but thankfully he wasn’t in pain. He was peaceful. Im so grateful for that, and that we could be with him (sic)”
Davina admitted she and her sister “hit the jackpot” with Andrew, who was robbed of the power of speech by Alzheimer’s disease.
She added: “He was the best Dad I could ever wish for . My sister and I hit the jackpot . He always made time for us, opened his ( and my amazing mummas) house to all our friends, temporarily adopted mates of mine that needed help. He was a facilitator, always helping people with intros … he knew EVERYBODY. And they ALL loved him! I can’t imagine how many careers and businesses were started because of him. The word legend has been used many times to describe my Dad . He was a bon vivante, loved life, positive to the very end… “it just works” was one of the last phrases he was able to say as Alzheimer’s robbed him of the power of speech . He lived life . He loved us. And we loved him . With all our hearts . He leaves an enormous hole in our lives . (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig Revel Horwood didn’t expect to get engaged again.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge has admitted he wasn’t ever considering tying the knot for a second time – after he was previously married to Jane Horwood from 1990 to 1992 – but he couldn’t resist when his partner Jonathan Myring popped the question in March 2020.
He said: “Marriage wasn’t something I was considering. I’d already been married and divorced and vowed to never do it again. I never thought I’d get married to a bloke, but never say never.”
The couple are due to get married in 2023, but Craig nearly put paid to that when he rejected gardener Jonathan’s proposal at first. However, the star didn’t waste much time in changing his mind.
He said: “At first I said, ‘No!’ As a nervous reaction. Twenty seconds later I said, ‘Yes,’ because Jonathan is so gorgeous.”
Craig insists away from the TV screen – where he is branded Strictly’s “Mr Nasty” – he is “really quite nice”.
He added to HELLO! magazine: “What might surprise people is I’m really quite nice and I actually smile. It’s a far cry from who I am on the telly. I’ve never been nasty.
“I’ve only told the truth, which sometimes hurts. And I don’t care.
“It’s not life or death; it’s a dance competition. I’ve got to hold the dance flag as upright as I can and tell people the truth.”
In December, Craig told how he invites the lonely over to his house for Christmas.
He said: “People who can’t go see their families come to my house for Christmas. It’s important to create a community and family of your own.
“I phone my own family and try to make everyone feel special. I have 12 people over for Christmas who don’t have anywhere else to go.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ITV has announced plans for a new on-demand platform.
The channel is to launch ITVX, which will allow viewers to watch thousands of hours of content for free, or subscribe to tune into add-free shows, and it is planning to premiere numerous programmes on the service six to eight months ahead of them airing on ITV’s broadcast channel.
These include new drama ‘A Spy Among Friends’, which features Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce.
Carolyn McCall, ITV’s Chief Executive, said: “The digital acceleration we are announcing today builds on everything we have achieved in phase one of our More Than TV strategy.
“ITVX will be a free service supported by adverts, with a compelling subscription proposition.
“This is fantastic for viewers – it will provide a simplified and seamless experience with thousands of hours of free content made up of both library and original exclusive content.
“The subscription tier will provide a premium offering and includes all of the content ad-free as well as BritBox and future SVOD content partners.
“We are supercharging our streaming business, fundamentally shifting our focus to think digital first, as well as optimising our broadcast channels, by continuing to attract unrivalled mass audiences.
“In doing so we are responding to changing viewing habits, but also the evolving needs from our advertisers.
“This will enable ITV to continue to be both commercial viewers and advertisers’ first choice.”
Kevin Lygo, ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, says the channel is planning to offer viewers a service with “more fresh, free content dropping every week than anywhere else”.
He added: “Our broadcast channels are very important to what we do, and we are still focused on delivering what ITV does better than anyone in commercial TV – creating programmes that bring audiences together – in-the-moment, in their millions, for that shared viewing, scheduled TV experience.
“However we know we have to deliver our programmes to as many people as possible in all the ways they want to watch them, and going forward viewers will now see a wide array of shows premiering first on ITVX, which is the cornerstone of ITV’s digital acceleration.”
The pricing of the subscription tier in ITVX will be announced later this year.

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Carr has been updating his tour show while on the road, because of “what’s going on in [his] personal life”.
The 45-year-old comedian confirmed in January that he had split from husband Paul Drayton, and while he is enjoying being back on stage with the “insane” atmosphere, he has made some changes to his jokes.
When asked if it’s good to be back on tour, he said: “I love it and the atmosphere on stage is insane.
“And it’s weird for me, because of what’s going on in my personal life, so I’m writing as I go along and changing it.
“So, it’s interesting and it feels fresh. I’m getting a lot of love from the audience, which is wonderful.”
Alan recently returned to host a second series of BBC show ‘Interior Design Masters’, and while a number of people got into interior design during the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns, he turned to jigsaws, bird-watching and astronomy.
But he mistook the planet Venus for his neighbour’s security light.
He added to OK! magazine: “I actually started doing things I used to do – I regressed. I was doing jigsaws, bird-watching and I got an astronomy app so I could look up at the night sky.
“I thought I saw Venus, but it was my neighbour’s security light.”
In January, Alan announced he had made the “difficult decision” to part ways with Paul after 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage.
A spokesperson said: “After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating.
“They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time.”
Just five days later, Paul was jailed for drunkenly driving into a police car with an alcohol test reading “off the scale”, but he was then freed just two days into his 14-week prison sentence.

OHMYGOSSIP — Rebecca Sarker has a “special place in her heart” for Bill Roache.
The ‘Emmerdale’ actress admits she has a soft spot for her former ‘Coronation Street’ co-star – who plays Ken Barlow in the show – after he helped her out when she first started out in Weatherfield, playing Nita Desai from 1999 to 2000.
When asked who her favourite soap character of all time is, she said: “I have a special place in my heart for Ken Barlow, and Bill Roache was so kind to me when I started on ‘Corrie’.
“He’s such a polite and charming man.”
As well as 89-year-old Bill, Rebecca is also a huge fan of a number of other soap royalty, including EastEnders’ ‘Dirty’ Den Watts – who was played by late actor Leslie Grantham – and she had a crush on ‘Neighbours’ star turned Hollywood actor Guy Pearce back when he used to frequent Erinsborough.
She said: “I have a lot of close favourites, too – Dirty Den in ‘EastEnders’, Scott and Charlene from ‘Neighbours’.
“I also had a huge crush on Guy Pearce [Neighbours’ Mike Young] and Larry Hagman [JR from ‘Dallas’].”
The 47-year-old star – who now plays Manpreet Sharma in ‘Emmerdale’ – admits if she had to play another Dales character in the soap she would pick Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell).
She added to Inside Soap magazine: “I’d play Zak Dingle. He’s ‘Emmerdale’ royalty, and he commands respect even when his only line in a scene is, ‘Shall we crack open a tinny?’ ”

OHMYGOSSIP — Claudia Winkleman and Chris Eubank are among the stars who will take place in a special episode of ‘This Is MY House’ in aid of Red Nose Day.
The pair will be joined by Harry Hill and Nina Wadia on an all-star panel of judges as they aim to deduce who the real homeowner is when they go for a virtual look around a luxury four-bedroom house.
Ricky Hatton, Claire Richards, Deborah Meaden, and Rob Rinder will all be attempting to convince the panel that it is their abode.
‘Good Morning Britain’ co-host Rob said: “When I was asked to take part in this special episode of ‘This Is MY House’, I just had to say yes as I loved the first series.
“It was also a brilliant chance to take part for a fantastic cause, Comic Relief.
“It’s a cause close to my heart so it was an honour to be involved.”
Singer Claire added: “I had so much fun playing ‘This Is MY House’ for such a special cause.
“I think people will be surprised and most importantly, entertained by how it all plays out. I can’t wait for everyone to see it!”
Former boxer Ricky loved being involved in the show.
He said: “Playing ‘This Is MY House’ for Red Nose Day was really enjoyable. I had a good laugh playing with the other celebrities whilst doing it all for such an important cause, Comic Relief.
“It was great to be involved.”

OHMYGOSSIP — EastEnders’ new £87 million set will allow for more car and foot chases in Albert Square.
BBC bosses have told how the new set at Elstree, Hertfordshire, will allow for much more storyline “flexibility”, which will lead to more action sequences being shot on the soap.
Director Richard Lynn told the Radio Times magazine: “Chase scenes on the old lot would inevitably have gone in one direction only, because there were so many dead ends.
“There is much more flexibility now – more places for the goodies to hide and the baddies to come together.
“I’d really like to do a foot chase in the alleys or back gardens.”
Production manager Rona McKendrick revealed there will be an ‘EastEnders’ car chase just four episodes into the new set’s usage later this month.
She said: “In the fourth episode, there’s a chase sequence – to show off as much of the new area as we possibly can.”
Rona also admitted the old set had to be updated due to safety fears.
She added: “The lot got shabbier and shabbier.
“Once the rain and the wind got in, it really started degrading. In recent years, it became unsafe in winds – you could see the chimneys wobbling.”
Filming began on the new set in January, after the old Albert Square – which was built in 1984 with an intention to be used for two years – was no longer fit for purpose.
The BBC said at the time: “The investment in the BBC’s longest-running TV serial drama and wider BBC Elstree Centre enables improved HD for our audiences and enhanced filming options.
“‘EastEnders’ production are now able to explore new areas on screen and writers, producers and directors have greater freedom to drive further creativity.”
This comes after the BBC recently confirmed ‘EastEnders’ will air Monday to Thursdays at 7.30pm from March 7th as part of its new schedule.
