OHMYGOSSIP — Laura Whitmore has signed a £500,000 contract for a new series of ‘Love Island’.
The 36-year-old presenter – who took over hosting the show from the late Caroline Flack in 2020 – had been rumoured to be departing the hit dating programme but she agreed a new one-year deal with producers earlier this week and can’t wait to get started on the next series.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “There has been lots of speculation that Laura might be stepping down, or that other presenters were being lined up for the role.
“Laura and show executives always hoped she would re-sign — it was just a case of making sure timings worked.
“She is excited to be going back to Casa Amor and seeing what dramas unfold.”
Laura previously admitted she isn’t a fan of all the show’s contestants and has to remind herself to be “serious” and not behave like a fan when she enters the villa.
She said: “It’s really weird because I’ve been a fan of this show for years, from the start, I love it… and when I go in there, I have to remember that I’m not a fan. I’m there to be serious and not to give anything away.”
Laura also admitted that she is “fickle” when it comes to the contestants and regularly changes her opinions on the stars.
Asked for her thoughts on this year’s Islanders, she said: “Do you know what I’m so fickle as a person, it changes every episode.
“Like, my favourite person at the start is now no longer my favourite. And I forgive people quite quickly… Some people I don’t like and then I do like.”
Laura – who is married to the show’s narrator Iain Stirling – also explained that ‘Love Island’ tends to be slow-burning every year.
She said: “Iain has obviously worked on it for years and he says, ‘So week one, they say this. Week One they say there’s no one as good as the previous year. Then week two they start to warm up a little bit.
“‘Then week three, they’re kind of getting into it. Then week four, Casa Amor. Bam! Everyone’s into it and they say it’s the best year so far.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Regan Gascoigne has insisted he “started from nothing” to make it to the ‘Dancing on Ice’ final.
The 26-year-old performer – who is partnered by Karina Manta on the show – dismissed suggestions he and fellow finalists Kimberly Wyatt and Brendan Cole have had an unfair advantage over ousted contestants because of their backgrounds in dance, but he doesn’t think that’s the case because ice skating is “totally different”.
He said: “We know how to operate this part, but the steps and the routines are different. You do something and they go, “Oh, that’s wrong.” We all started from nothing to get here so I think it’s different.”
Kimberly insisted they have had to work just as hard as the other contestants, though she acknowledged her dance training had allowed her to try new things on the ice with her partner Mark Hanretty.
She said: “I’ve been really grateful for my dance background, absolutely, but with that comes the fact that we’re going for things that have not been done before.
“When I did the invert spinning split, no one had done that before and maybe if I did not have a dance background I would not have had the nerve to go for it.
‘”You’re never going to convince everybody that you deserve to be there or don’t deserve to be there.”
Her comments echo those of former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Brendan, who said he believes their dance backgrounds have made this year’s series “really special”.
The dancer – who is partnered by Vanessa Bauer – told MailOnline: “I think the fact that we have got a dancing background has only improved things on the ice.
“The stuff we have been able to do because of our background has been really special. I have loved the challenge of it. People are always going to complain. That is the nature of how humans exist today. We will never change their minds.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Vanessa Bauer worried she wouldn’t “bond” with Brendan Cole because he’s so much older than her.
The 25-year-old skater was “really surprised” when ‘Dancing On Ice’ bosses paired her with the former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional on this year’s series, but her concerns about their 20-year age gap were unfounded because her partner is a “kid at heart”.
Vanessa told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: “The producers really surprised me with the partnership because there is a 20-year age gap.
“I didn’t expect to be with Brendan when obviously there were young guys, like I was partnered with in previous years. I was worried at first that we wouldn’t bond, but because we’re both ­performers and I’m a mature 25-year-old, I’m comfortable.
“Brendan is like a kid at heart — it shows on the ice as well, as he throws himself at everything I’m showing him and he doesn’t ­hesitate to jump.
“He falls and gets up and it amazes me how his 45-year-old body can handle so much strain. He says all the time that he has toned up.
“You can see it as well — he has lost a lot of weight.”
While Brendan is known for his “fiery” temper, Vanessa wasn’t fazed by that and she insisted he’s been happy to follow her lead throughout the series.
She added: “I’ve heard these rumours about him being fiery, but I am a feisty person, too — so he met his match.
“I know when I have to take the lead and take over the partnership and he very much respects that.
“We’ve been a perfect partnership. He wants to get his ballroom experience on to the ice, but as the ice-skating pro I have to tell him that the things he wants to do are not possible and he gets upset, but we never fight.”
Vanessa is “so proud” of everything her partner has achieved on the show.
She gushed: “He almost looks like a professional skater, I’m so proud of him. He’s now almost as good on the ice as in the ballroom. I will 100 per cent stay in touch with Brendan. We will stay friends, for sure.
“We have spent up to seven hours a day, for six months, training together…
“I take my job seriously, but the fun of it is 90 per cent of the job. You have to laugh — it would be so sad if Brendan and I didn’t have that bond.
“He falls every ­session and laughs. Behind the scenes he is a lovely person, a good family man. He is like me on the ice, and so dedicated and a ­perfectionist. As a pro skater, I very much appreciate that he is always ­trying to push himself.
“We are always trying to be adventurous and bring something to the table that the audience hasn’t seen before.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Oti Mabuse “cried for hours” when she quit ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The 31-year-old dancer – who has won the show with Kelvin Fletcher in 2019 and Bill Bailey in 2020 – announced last month that she was leaving the BBC Latin and ballroom contest but she actually broke the news to producers last year, ahead of the most recent season.
She said: “We cried for hours. I’m still crying now.”
Oti insisted now is the “right time” for her to leave the show because she wanted to go while she was still happy and performing well.
She told You magazine: “When I came to Britain I said to myself, ‘My dream is to win ‘Strictly.’ And I have, and it was such an amazing seven years, but I’ve done what I needed to do.
“I feel so emotional. I lived my best life on that show and it gave me the career I have now, but you need to know when it’s the right time to get off that wave and try new things.
“I didn’t want to hold on and get to the point where I wasn’t happy any more. I left when I was at the peak, in terms of working on the show. It feels like I’m leaving family behind – even the backstage team, the people viewers don’t get to see – but when you know it’s time to go, you know.”
Although the news of Oti’s departure from the show was concealed from the public and even the programme’s crew, her fellow dancers were aware and she was thankful she got to say an emotional “goodbye” to them after the programme’s final.
She said: “Nobody knows this, but in the final everyone came round me at the end and we were all hugging and saying goodbye.
“After they announced Rose and Giovanni as winners I said goodbye to them, then everyone came around me: Katya, Aljaz, Karen [fellow professionals]… and it just started building, all the celebs then the whole cast just hugged each other to say goodbye. And it was me saying goodbye to all of them.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Gordon Ramsay would “love” to join ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The TV chef has revealed he’s been asked by bosses to take part in a Christmas special in the past, and while it’s not happened yet he’d be up for following in his daughter Tilly’s footsteps by strutting his stuff on the BBC Latin and ballroom show.
He told the Radio Times magazine: “They asked me to do a Christmas special with Gino D’Acampo and Fred Sirieix.
“Secretly, I’d love to do it. I’ve always wanted to dance.
“There’s something so gorgeous about the rumba, the samba, the foxtrot, the tango.”
The 55-year-old star admitted he could even approach producers himself to try and land a spot on next year’s show, although he thinks his daughter would “kill” him.
He said: “I may ask the BBC if I could do it next year. Tilly would kill me, by the way.
“‘Strictly’ shaped her in a way that has made her so much more hard-working, I’m incredibly proud.”
Meanwhile, Gordon revealed there’s just one part of the show which makes him “slightly nervous” – the extravagant wardrobe.
He added: “The only bit I’d be slightly nervous about is all the tight lycra, sequins and the trousers.”
Last year, Gordon gushed over how “proud” his is of his YouTuber daughter for her stint on ‘Strictly’ alongside pro dancer Nikita Kuzmin.
Alongside a snap of the pair in their samba costumes, Gordaon wrote: “Words can’t describe how proud I am of these 2, hard working polite humble and incredibly down to earth , most of all well done and what a celebration of youth and how happy it makes me feel.
“The future is bright and you 2 will continue to shine lots of love dad @tillyramsay @nikita__kuzmin @bbcstrictly. (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — BBC dramas ‘Time’, ‘The Tourist’, ‘The Responder’ and ‘Vigil’ are to return for a second series.
The prison drama – which starred Stephen Graham and Sean Bean – will be back for another helping, but it will be welcome a new cast and be set in an all-female prison.
Charlotte Moore, BBC Chief Content Officer, said: “The BBC is on fire creatively and the return of four of our biggest dramas over the last year demonstrates the sheer scale and range of storytelling on the BBC.”
Last year, ‘Vigil’ – which starred Suranne Jones and Martin Compston – was the UK’s most-watched new drama launch in three years, since ‘Bodyguard’ in 2018.
What’s more, 2022 dramas ‘The Tourist’ – which stars Jamie Dornan and is the highest-rating drama of the year so far – and ‘The Responder’ will also be back for second helpings.
‘The Responder’ – which features Martin Freeman – is the second biggest new drama of 2022, after launching with nearly 10 million viewers across 30 days.
The second season will once again be set and filmed in Liverpool.
Last May, Martin – who plays Chris, an unconventional urgent response officer tackling night shifts in Liverpool – previously praised the ‘The Responder’ writer Tony Schumacher for his “unique and honest” scripts.
He said: “Tony Schumacher’s scripts were so unique and honest that I knew very quickly that I wanted to be a part of ‘The Responder’ and take on the role of Chris.
“No one writes like Tony and it has been exhilarating inhabiting the world he has created.”
Writer Tony admitted Martin was top of his wish list when it came to casting his lead character.
He added: “My fantasy casting when I was writing the character of Chris in the Responder was Martin Freeman.
“Seeing that fantasy become reality is beyond exciting. Martin is one of the great British actors.
“He brings such a well of talent and humanity that breathes magic into the words I’ve been lucky enough to give him.
“I can’t wait for audiences to get to see his performance in this role, it’s one I feel very lucky to have had a front row seat for.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Warner’s boyfriend is in a “critical but stable condition” after he was hit by a car.
The ‘Gogglebox’ star’s partner, Nat Eddleston, is still in hospital fighting for his life following an accident in Leeds in the early hours of Saturday (19.03.22) morning.
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “The pedestrian remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
West Yorkshire police are appealing for witnesses.
They wrote on Twitter: “Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision in the Halton area of Leeds involving a white Seat Leon and an adult male pedestrian.
“Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, which occurred on Selby Road near to The Woodman pub at around 00:10 this morning (Saturday 19th March 2022).
“The pedestrian has suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or the Seat being driven prior to the collision, including anyone with dash-cam or video footage, is asked to call 101, or contact online via www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat referencing collision 13220147973.”
Nat is said to have suffered a broken neck, broken back, and two collapsed lungs following the accident.
An unnamed family member recently said: “Nat is in intensive care with a broken neck, broken back, two collapsed lungs and possible brain damage.
“He is on a life support machine and all the family and Ellie are obviously very worried for him.”
Ellie has appeared on the Channel 4 programme with her sister Izzi since 2015.

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Atkinson is to co-host ‘The Toddler Club’ on CBeebies.
The former ‘Emmerdale’ star will present alternate days with Nigel Clarke, who is known for hosting sister show ‘The Baby Club’, when the 14-minute episodes get underway on April 4th.
Gemma – who has two-year-old daughter Mia with her fiance Gorka Marquez – said: “As a new mum, during the first lockdown I found comfort and reassurance watching programmes such as ‘The Baby Club’ and ‘The Toddler Club At Home’, so for me to now be a host is such an honour.
“The show covers so many basics for us as parents and lets us know we’re not alone, every toddler is different and that’s OK.
“To be presenting a show that helps children develop and lets parents feel we’re all in the same boat is wonderful.”
The show will see Gemma and Nigel joined in the studio by families from across the country as they try to encourage people to spend time together and explore the world around them through songs, play, and storytelling.
Kate Morton, Head of BBC Children’s Commissioning Acquisitions 0-6, added: “We’re thrilled Gemma is joining us for ‘The Toddler Club’ and becoming part of the family.
“She brings her own experience of being a mum to the show and is passionate about helping other parents to feel positive and empowered.”
CBeebies has commissioned 40 episodes of ‘The Toddler Club’, with 20 episodes set to air on weekdays from Monday 4 April on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer, and 20 episodes will follow later in the year.

OHMYGOSSIP — Hugh Grant won’t be taking over from Jodie Whittaker in ‘Doctor Who’.
The ‘Love Actually’ star has “nothing against” the long running BBC sci-fi series, but admits he isn’t in the running to take on the role of the titular Time Lord.
On Twitter, the 61-year-old actor wrote: “Nothing against Dr W but I’m not. No idea where that story came from. (sic)”
It comes after it was reported last weekend that “conversations were in progress” between Russell T Davies – who is returning to the programme as showrunner – and Hugh.
A source said: “He offers many attributes – great actor, British, award-winning, Hollywood A-lister and excellent at comedy. Conversations are in progress.”
Russell is said to have big plans for the series and wants to establish a multiverse for various spin-off projects.
The source added: “The vision is that the show can be a Marvel-like product, building franchises around the Doctor and other key characters in his many lives.”
David Tennant, Peter Capaldi, Matt Smith and Christopher Eccleston have all played the Time Lord since the show’s 2005 revamp.
‘It’s A Sin’ creator Russell previously admitted he had asked the ‘Four Weddings and A Funeral’ star to be the Doctor, but the request “never got past his agent”.
The 58-year-old screenwriter – who finally worked with Hugh on the BBC series ‘A Very English Scandal’ – said: “Literally, I’ve wanted to work with Hugh Grant for decades. We did ask him to be Doctor Who in 2004. I have to say, that never got past his agent. I told him this. He was completely oblivious.
“With that level of star, you approach the agent and they just kick it out the window. ‘Would Hugh like to come to Cardiff for a year?’ ‘No!'”
Despite this, Hugh is no stranger to playing the Time Lord as he took the lead in a 1999 Red Nose Day sketch, titled ‘Doctor Who: The Curse of the Fatal Death’ written by Steven Moffat.

OHMYGOSSIP — Holly Willoughby will return to ‘This Morning’ on Wednesday (23.03.22).
The 41-year-old TV presenter was absent from the ITV show last week after she tested positive for coronavirus, but her co-host Phillip Schofield has revealed Holly will be back alongside him tomorrow.
Speaking on the show, he said: “We’re pleased to say she’s negative and she’s back tomorrow.”
Upon hearing the news, Alison Hammond – who has stepped in for Holly during her absence, as has Josie Gibson – began to sing ‘Celebration’ by Kool and the Gang, but joked she was hoping for more fanfare.
She quipped: “I wanted confetti, I wanted the works.”
Alison added: “Holly, we’re so glad you’re coming back.”
ITV announced Holly would miss co-hosting the ‘Dancing on Ice’ semi-finals on March 13th after she tested positive for COVID.
A statement at the time read: “Unfortunately, Holly Willoughby is unable to host tonight’s show after testing positive for COVID-19.
“We look forward to Holly returning for the ‘Dancing on Ice’ live final.”
‘Dancing on Ice’ didn’t air last Sunday due to FA Cup football, but Holly looks set to return for the final this Sunday (27.03.22) after testing negative for COVID.
On Monday’s (21.03.22) ‘This Morning’, Phil revealed Holly had felt “absolutely fine” over the weekend, but she was still testing positive.
He said: “Welcome to your Monday this morning, Josie is back! I’ve been texting Holly all through the weekend and she’s absolutely fine.
“She just has that incredibly persistent and annoying red line that won’t go away. So she’ll be sitting at home – it’s driving her crazy.”
