EastEnders star Melanie Clark Pullen dies aged 46

OHMYGOSSIP — Former ‘EastEnders’ actress Melanie Clark Pullen has died.
The 46-year-old star – who was best known for playing Pauline Fowler’s (Wendy Richard) niece Mary Flaherty on the long-running soap between 1997 and 1999 – sadly lost her battle with breast cancer on March 29, The Sun reports.
In 2020, Melanie was told she was cancer-free after being diagnosed the year before.
She said at the time: “I got the all-clear. I’m cancer-free, which is great, so now it’s all about recovery.”
However, she tragically found out she had a brain tumour in June 2021.
She said: “I was only given the all-clear from cancer 18 months ago and it’s a cruel blow to think that I will now be starting into some kind of treatment again and that this time it will be long term and a permanent fixture of my life.”
As well as the BBC One soap, Melanie starred in ‘Catherine Cookson’s A Dinner Full of Herbs’, had a role in the film ‘Ordinary Love’, alongside Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville, and appeared alongside Richard Attenborough and Jenny Agutter in the remake of the classic ‘The Railway Children’.
The Irish star is survived by her husband Simon and three children.
Broadcaster Maia Dunphy – the former wife of comedian Johnny Vegas – went to the same drama school as the late actress, Trinity College, Dublin, and is among those to pay tribute to Melanie.
She wrote: “Our funny, beautiful, eccentric, creative Goddess Melanie Clark Pullen is gone. What a force of nature, most importantly, what a Mama.
“Your words and your babies live on. Our love and thoughts are with Simon.”
Melanie is survived by her husband Simon Maxwell and their three children.

David Walliams says Simon Cowell ‘feels less invincible’ on the new season of Britain’s Got Talent

OHMYGOSSIP — David Walliams says Simon Cowell “feels less invincible” on this season of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.
The former ‘Little Britain’ star shared that his fellow judge on the ITV talent competition – which is returning to screens on Saturday (16.04.22) – now knows “you have to take care of yourself” after the 62-year-old had a brush with danger after he crashed his e-bike in Malibu.
The 50-year-old funnyman told the Daily Star’s Hot TV Column: “I think Simon feels less invincible. It shakes you up, things like accidents.
“You realise you have to take care of yourself.
“He’s sort of lived the same life for a long time.
“He’s been 25 for about 30 years… he’s had that sort of life. And life’s different now, isn’t it?
“I think he might give up the bike, maybe.”
David – who is joined on the judging panel by Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon – labelled Simon “a very loving father” and gushed how “lovely” it is to watch him with his eight-year-old son Eric, whose mother is his fiancee Lauren Silverman, 44.
He said: “Simon’s a very loving father. It’s lovely to see him and Eric together, and the happiness that Eric brings.”
The ‘Gangsta Granny’ author – who has eight-year-old son Alfred with ex Lara Stone – believes that kids “bring a sort of new meaning to life” and make you less “selfish”.
David said: “When you have children, they bring a sort of new meaning to life, because up to that point, especially in showbusiness, you’re quite selfish, just trying to get on with your career and all that sort of thing.
“Suddenly you realise it’s not really that important and what’s really important is the happiness of this little person who relies on you for everything.”
In February, an insider claimed that the ‘X Factor’ creator was “lucky to be alive” after he fell from his bike during a ride in the rain.
They said he left the scene with “blood pouring down his face”.

“I know that I have felt this. I have felt this pressure and it comes from everyone. It comes from other women which is so strange to say.
“If I was to do a question and answers on here, every single question off women, not really off men, but off women would be, ‘When are you having a baby? When are you having a baby then?’ I feel like there’s the pressure right there. There’s the pressure.”

Nicolas Cage is ‘glad’ he finally watched The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

OHMYGOSSIP — Nicolas Cage is “glad” he finally watched ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’.
The ‘Pig’ star broke his vow that he never was going to watch the new Tom Gormican movie about an actor facing financial difficulties who accepts $1 million to attend fan’s birthday party – which is thought to be loosely inspired by his life – because of his “other hat on the movie was producer” and needed to advocate for it to the studio.
The 58-year-old actor told Collider: “I had to watch it because my other hat on this movie was producer, and as a producer, it got to a point where the studio had an opinion and the director had an opinion and it was time for fresh eyes. And I had to shut off half my mind and half my heart and look at the movie from a place of neutral, and as a producer, I was able to say to the studio, ‘I think you’ve got to put some of Tom’s flavor back in the movie. You’re losing a lot of the flavor of the comedy.’ And to Tom, I had to say, ‘I think these two scenes aren’t landing.’ And I’m glad I did it because I think we finally got to a place where the movie works as a whole in the best possible way, the best of both worlds.”
Recently, Nicolas – who appears in the film alongside Pedro Pascal, who plays the billionaire who pays for his company at his celebration – initially called it an “absolute horror” to play a fictionalised version of himself but was convinced to assume the role.
He said: “There was no muscle in my body that told me I should play a character named Nick Cage, it was absolute horror.
“However, the director wrote me a very intelligent, sensitive letter, and in that letter I knew he was a true film enthusiast that likes some of the earlier work.
“He wanted to make a movie that was about people, not about caricatures or cartoons.”

Renée Zellweger eager to reprise role as Bridget Jones

OHMYGOSSIP — Renée Zellweger is eager to play Bridget Jones again.
The 52-year-old star has portrayed the unlucky-in-love character in three films based on Helen Fielding’s novels, most recently 2016’s ‘Bridget Jones’s Baby’, which saw Bridget become a mother for the first time.
The ‘Judy’ actress loves playing her “awkward” alter ego so much, and another movie is possible as the author penned another book in the series.
Speaking on ‘The Jess Cagle Show’ on SiriusXM, Renée said: “I hope so. I hope so. I mean, it’s fun, you know, she’s so much fun.
“I love being in her shoes.
“I mean, it makes me giggle, you know, every day on set the choices that we get to make about just how awkward we can make her circumstances. It’s just so much fun.”
On why Bridget is so appealing, she added: “I find her so endearing … her self-deprecating sort of determination. I love her. And I think it’s really rare to get to follow a character through different stages in her life.
“And in a way that we find her relatable, because she parallels our own life experiences at that time. Yeah, I hope so. I mean, Helen did write another book, so there’s that.”
Before reprising her most famous role, Renée took a break from acting for a few years because she had gotten “bored” with her career and didn’t feel she could be an “interesting storyteller” without gaining some more life experience herself.
She said previously: “You reach a point when you’ve been doing the same thing for a long time. How greedy can one girl get? You know, I’ve had some extraordinary experiences and when is enough, enough?
“And it’s time to learn new things. I don’t think you can be an interesting story-teller if you can’t relate to other people’s experiences because you’ve spent 25-30 years living other people’s lives.
“I was bored, not with my work, I always loved my work, I was bored with myself. I needed to grow as a person and evolve a little bit, learn new things. You only live once right?”

David Lynch denies debuting a new film at the Cannes Film Festival

OHMYGOSSIP — David Lynch is not debuting a new film at the Cannes Film Festival.
The ‘Wild at Heart’ director called claims he is taking a new motion picture to the French festival as “a total rumour”.
The 76-year-old filmmaker told Entertainment Weekly: “I have no new film coming out. That’s a total rumor. So there you are. It is not happening. I don’t have a project. I have nothing at Cannes. It’s unfortunate. It got built up that people thought, “Oh, that’d be nice.” But there is something new, but it’s not mine. I don’t know whose it is. They say there’s something new at Cannes, and they don’t say whose it is, and some people thought it was my film, but it’s not. So we’ll wait and see, and see whose it is.”
David revealed that he is “working” on other creative projects but not a secret movie.
He said: “I’m working on painting and sculpture each day. And I’ve been working on ‘Lost Highway’ color-correcting and timing.”
This comes after speculation circulated – first reported by Variety – that the ‘Twin Peaks’ creator was getting ready to show a new movie at the summer film celebration, whose official line up is being dropped on Thursday (14.04.22).
One of the most hotly anticipated and confirmed movies showing at the 75th Cannes Film Festival is ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ – the follow up to the 1986 original – along with the first appearance in 30 years of its star Tom Cruise at the festival. In addition, the Elvis Presley biopic ‘Elvis’ starring Austin Butler in the title role will also feature.

‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ has edited out all gay references for its release in China

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ has had all gay references edited out for its release in China.
The movie – which has a rumoured budget of $200 million – has had six seconds of dialogue removed between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, roles played by Jude Law and Mads Mikkelsen.
Of the decision, Warner Brothers said: “As a studio, we’re committed to safeguarding the integrity of every film we release, and that extends to circumstances that necessitate making nuanced cuts in order to respond sensitively to a variety of in-market factors. Our hope is to release our features worldwide as released by their creators but historically we have faced small edits made in local markets.”
Lines removed from the movie – which is a part of the prequel series to the Harry Potter books – include “Because I was in love with you” and “the summer Gellert and I fell in love” for Chinese audiences.
The studio maintains that with the cuts “the spirit of the film remains intact” as the censored movie still contains allusions of their close relationship.
Censorship is not new to western cultural exports to China as in 2019, the Freddie Mercury biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ was changed to remove all mentions of the Queen frontman’s homosexuality. This follows an array of anti-LGBT moves from the government – which is led by Xi Jinping – including a clampdown on dating apps such as Grindr.
In China, the movie debuted in the box office top spot last weekend, however internationally the flick has proved to be a financial disappointment after taking only $58 million in 22 markets.

Coronation Street walk-on artist fired after selfie on set

OHMYGOSSIP — A ‘Coronation Street’ walk-on artist has been fired from his acting agency after he had a selfie with Andi Peters on the show’s set.
Matthew Davidge was axed from Industry Model Management after he used his mobile phone on set, which isn’t allowed, and a spokesperson for the ITV soap said the agency “decided on a course of action”.
A ‘Corrie’ spokesperson said: “A walk-on artist was seen breaching filming protocols and his agent was notified. They decided on a course of action.
“Andi Peters was not aware of this complaint.”
Matthew has been lost for words over his firing, and he is concerned how he will pay his bills.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I’m speechless. I’ve worked on the set of ‘Corrie’ on and off since 1986. I’ve never had a complaint and I’ve loved every minute of it. Now, it’s all over.
“You’re not supposed to have your phone out on set but everyone does. It’s a rule that’s never really been enforced.
“When I asked him for a photograph it was all a bit of a laugh and he smiled and said, ‘No problem’.
“The whole interaction took less than a minute. Now I don’t know how I’m going to pay my bills.”
Matthew is said to have spotted ‘Good Morning Britain’ star Andi on the show’s set on Friday (08.04.22), and one of his ‘GMB’ colleagues took the picture with Andi’s permission.
The TV presenter was at the ‘Corrie’ studios – which is based in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester – to shoot a competition.

Nadiya Bychkova and Kai Widdrington ‘move in together’

OHMYGOSSIP — Nadiya Bychkova and Kai Widdrington have taken their relationship to the next level by moving in together.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro dancers – who went Instagram official with their romance this week when she shared a picture of the pair holding hands in The Ivy restaurant – are said to be sharing an abode in London together.
A source close to the couple told The Sun newspaper: “Moving in together was the obvious next step for Nadiya and Kai. They’ve grown so close and it just made sense.
“Kai helped Nadiya move in her belongings this week and they’re excited about making their property feel like a shared home.”
The couple are said to have been dating since January, a month after the latest ‘Strictly’ series came to a close.
Nadiya was partnered by outgoing ‘BBC Breakfast’ host Dan Walker during the series, and the TV presenter admitted he and his wife Sarah Walker – who he has been married to since 2001 – discussed the so-called “‘Strictly’ curse” after he was paired with the pro dancer.
He said: “When Sarah saw who I was partnered with, we had to have a laugh about it.
“Obviously, you discuss those things, the curse, but it wasn’t a lengthy discussion. I think we tried to make it light-hearted, to have fun doing it.”
But Dan revealed Nadiya, 32, became close to his family during the series.
He said: “But the first Monday I trained with Nadiya, she came around and had dinner with my family. We’ve been out four or five times to restaurants.
“My family is really, really important to me and always have been and always will be. I didn’t want them to feel excluded.
“So no, being paired with Nadiya was never a problem. Friendship is a blessing. And I think from the moment we first met, Nadiya and I knew we were going to get on.
“But I’ve always introduced her on any social media video I’ve ever done as my ‘professional partner’ because that’s her job. She is very professional.
“We had a good laugh. We messed about with silly sketches during our lunchbreak but we worked really hard.”

The 45-year-old TV presenter announced in January that he and his husband Paul Drayton had gone their separate ways after 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, and the comedian is now setting his sights on the E4 series.
He said: “I would do ‘Celebs Go Dating’. It’s my favourite show.”
Alan admitted Paul was the first boyfriend he ever brought back to see his parents because he “loved him”.
Speaking on ‘Michelle Visage’s Rule Breakers’ podcast, he added: “I had partners before, but my Paul is my first boyfriend that I brought home to see my mum and dad, because I loved him and I didn’t care if my mum and dad said, ‘Get out’.
“It was worth doing that.”
Alan recently admitted he has hired a personal trainer following his split from Paul, and joked he wants a “revenge body”.
Speaking to fitness guru Joe Wicks, he quipped: “I have just gone through a divorce so I told the trainer I want a revenge body. But I think he thought I said I wanted a blancmange body.”
Joe then explained the mental health benefits that Alan will also experience from getting fit, saying: “Tap into the mental health benefits of exercise. If you wake up with energy, you’ve got the time to exercise, you’ll want to do it for your mind to feel less stress, especially when you are going through something emotional.”
Alan announced in January that he had made the “difficult decision” to part ways with Paul.
A spokesperson said: “After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating.

Noel Fielding to star as highwayman Dick Turpin in Apple TV series

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Fielding is set to star as Dick Turpin in a brand-new comedy series for Apple TV+.
The ‘Great British Bake Off’ co-host will embody the famous highwayman in the comedy-adventure, which will be directed by Ben Palmer and written by Claire Downes, Stuart Lane and Ian Jarvis.
The series is inspired by the real-life story of Turpin, who became a ring leader of thieves in the early 1730s and was notorious for robbing unsuspecting travellers as they strayed off the beaten paths.
He remained active in his criminal activities until 1739, where he was caught red handed for stealing a horse and executed for his crimes.
Turpin left behind a legacy following his death, with his story being adapted and retold numerous times for theatre, film and TV.
The streamer said in a statement: “In this irreverent retelling, Dick is the most famous, but least likely of highway robbers whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship and great hair.
“Together with his gang of loveable rogues, Dick rides the highs and lows of celebrity – and does what he can to escape the clutches of the Thief Taker General.”
The TV adaptation will mix real-life events with fantasy and give them a comedic twist.
The 48-year-old stand-up comedian – who is best known for his work with ‘The Mighty Boosh’ comedy troupe alongside Julian Barratt – will aim to retell the exaggerated version of the notorious bandit and his infamous escapades.
The untitled series, which is also executive produced by Noel, has no release date as of yet.

Hayley Mills thinks that television will beat the watching movies in the cinema

OHMYGOSSIP — Hayley Mills thinks that television will never “take the place of movies”.
The ‘Parent Trap’ star believes that going to the cinema has a different “focus” than watching series in your living room.
The 75-year-old actress told the Metro’s 60 Seconds With featurette: “I don’t think television is ever going to take the place of movies and that experience. You have a whole different approach to a film when you’ve sat down in the cinema. You’ve got that enormous screen and wonderful Dolby sound. There is a focus you don’t have when you are at home because you go have a cup of tea or have a pee and you pause it.”
Hayley revealed the “sad story” of her Juvenile Oscar – that she picked up for the film ‘Pollyanna’ – getting nicked.
She said: “But, I’ve been given a new one as my little Oscar was stolen 30 years ago. In those days, they didn’t give children a full-size Oscar. The first of these small-size statuettes was given to Shirley Temple. The last one was given to me in 1961. It was Shirley Temple who was suppose to give it to me but she wasn’t there. So now I have this beautiful golden Oscar, full size. So there is a happy ending to my sad story of losing my little one.
The ‘Compulsion’ star shared how members of her family – including her late mother, the screenwriter Mary Hayley Bell and sister Juliet Mills, 80 – share a “love” of playing roulette but she doesn’t “get” the appeal.
After being asked if she was a gambling fan, Hayley said: “No, unlike my mother and my sister, who love it. Roulette! You can’t drag them away from the roulette table. It doesn’t interest me at all. I don’t get it. My sister even has a system.”

Robert Eggers wants Willem Dafoe to be in his Nosferatu remake

OHMYGOSSIP — Robert Eggers wants Willem Dafoe to star in the ‘Nosferatu’ remake.
The 38-year-old director – who is at the helm of the reimagining of the German 1922 classic by FW Murnau – “just” loves working ‘The Northman’ star and wants him involved in the “incredibly important” project.
Robert told Slashfilm: “Nosferatu’ is such an incredibly important film and story for me, so it’s always percolating. If Willem … if ‘Nosferatu’ is made, Willem better damn well be in it because I just love working with him … but, you know, maybe he would play Ellen? Who knows.”
The 66-year-old actor – who also teamed up with Robert on the 2019 movie ‘the Lighthouse’ – was joined in the new Viking movie by Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard, which Robert was “inspired” to make by the “landscapes” of Iceland.
He told Face magazine: “Well, initially I was totally not interested in Vikings, because the macho stereotype did not appeal to me particularly. Then the right wing misappropriation of Viking culture turned me off completely, frankly.
But when I went to Iceland, the landscapes, of course, are unlike anything else. And they inspired me, and they made me pick up the Sagas. So then I [understood] that, yes, this is a violent, patriarchal culture, and this kind of looming stereotype is true. But what’s more interesting to me is the poetry, and the visual arts, and to understand that, because of the trade [routes] and the efficiency of their ships, the world was a smaller place than I thought.”

Dan Walker turned to Alex Ferguson for advice after announcing BBC exit

OHMYGOSSIP — Dan Walker turned to Sir Alex Ferguson for advice after announcing his BBC exit.
The 45-year-old TV presenter, who has fronted ‘BBC Breakfast’ for six years, shocked fans with last week’s announcement that he is leaving the show to take on a role as the Channel 5 News anchor.
Dan met with the the former Manchester United manager at the Randox Grand National Festival at Aintree last week, and admitted the 80-year-old star encouraged him to “embrace” his next challenge.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I’ve had a long chat with Sir Alex Ferguson. It’s the first time I’ve seen him for a while and he looks very well.
“He’s given me career advice, which was lovely. He was talking about the move to Channel 5 and talking about life and accepting the next challenge.
“When he was moving to clubs, St Mirren, Aberdeen and all those sorts of things, it’s good to get advice from good people around you.”
The TV host, who is stepping away from his £295,000-£295,999 a year role and replacing Sian Williams at Channel 5, told of his departure earlier this month.
In a video posted on his Twitter, he said: “I have a little bit of news for you.
“In the next few weeks I’m going to be leaving BBC Breakfast and moving to 5News and to Channel 5.
“I’m really excited but this has also been a massive decision for me because I love BBC Breakfast. I love working alongside Sally and I love the team there.
“But Channel 5 came with big ambitions, with big plans and I don’t think opportunities like this come around very often and I can’t wait.
“I’ve also had the incredible privilege of working on some iconic programmes over the last few years, both at the BBC and elsewhere.
“What I love about this deal is I not only get to present the news but also host a whole range of new programmes right across the channel.
“And what an honour to step into the shoes of Sian Williams. I know how popular she is with both the team and the audience.
“All I can say is I will do my very best to maintain her incredibly high standards.”
