OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Miranda’ is returning to TV.
Miranda Hart – who last appeared as the titular character in a New Year’s Day special in 2015 and took part in a cast reunion in 2020 – has revealed she’s written a fourth series of her beloved sitcom and hopes fans will be pleased to see it back on screen.
The 49-year-old funnywoman said: “A lot of lovely people have kept on asking for the return of Miranda so here we are and I hope everyone likes it.”
According to The Sun newspaper, a live show based on the series is also being considered.
It is not known if the show will return to the BBC or whether it will be made for a different network.
The show was developed from Miranda’s BBC Radio Two comedy series ‘Miranda Hart’s Joke Shop’ and made its debut on BBC Two back in 2009 before later transferring to BBC One.
It starred Miranda in the title role opposite Tom Ellis (Gary Preston), Sarah Hadland (Stevie Sutton), Sally Phillips (Tilly) and Patricia Hodge (Penny).
The show ran for three seasons until 2013 and was followed by two festive specials, which aired in 2014 and 2015.
The last installment was titled ‘The Final Curtain’ and it ended on an ambiguous note as the episode closed with the line: “I don’t know when and if I’ll see you again.”
However, the star later hinted she was thinking about reviving Miranda.
Back in November, Miranda insisted she was not “ruling out” a new series.
She said: “When you create characters like that, that you’ve lived with for a long time, they do become part of you.
“I do think of them from time to time, a bit like you would a friend that you haven’t seen for a while, ‘Oh, what would they be up to’.
“And so I’ve definitely had some thoughts of where they might be and what would happen with them all.
“The circumstances haven’t quite aligned. But it is something that I would say that I’m now not ruling out.
“Whereas a couple of years after it had finished, I completely ended it and that was that.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Landscapers’ and ‘We Are Lady Parts’ were the big winners at the BATFA TV Craft Awards, taking home three gongs each.
The drama mini-series – which was inspired by the story of a couple whose crime of killing her parents remained undiscovered for over a decade- was handed awards for Best Original Music, Best Photography and Lighting and Best Production Production Design, while musical comedy ‘We Are Lady Parts’ won Best Costume Design and Best Scripted Casting, and creator and first-time nominee Nida Manzoor collected her first BAFTA for Best Writer in Comedy on Sunday (25.04.22) .
Meanwhile, Channel 4 drama ‘It’s a Sin’ – which starred ‘King’ hitmaker Olly Alexander as a young gay man during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s – was awarded twice, with director Peter Haar being named Best Director and editor Sarah Brewerton receiving a nod for her editing work.
Matching the success of ‘It’s a Sin’ was ‘ The Witcher’ – which is based on the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowsk -, with the fantasy drama being awarded for Barrie Gower and Sara Gower’s Make-Up Hair design and Dadi Einarsson, Gavin Round, Aleksandar Pejic, Oliver Cubbage, Stefano Pepin and Jet Omoshebi winning Special, Visual Graphic Effects.
In awards recognising the factual side of television, Director: Factual was presented to James Newton for ‘Grenfell: The Untold Story’, which focused on the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire in London back in 2017 and the award for Sound: Factual was won by Stephen Griffiths, Andy Shelley, Nas Parkash, Dan Johnson, Tae Hak Kim and Claire Ellis for ‘1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything.’
The TV Craft Special Award was presented to Triple C – an organisation which aims to drive up the role of the disabled people in the arts and television – by writer Jack Thorne.
Triple C co-founder and ‘Coronation Street’ star Cherylee Houston – who is known to viewers for her long-running role as wheelchair-bound Izzy Armstrong on the ITV soap – used her acceptance speech to call for more diversity in the industry.
She said: “We need to elevate the voices of disabled creatives, develop careers and show the world the amazing talent that exists. We as a community have a wealth of exciting untold stories to bring to the screen. We need to see more deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people in-front of and behind the camera.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Rovers Return Inn is to start selling non-alcoholic beer.
The iconic pub – which has been at the heart of ITV soap ‘Coronation Street’ since it first aired in 1960 – will now be seen stocking real-life beer brand Heineken’s 0.0 behind the bar.
NHS GP and ‘This Morning’ star Zoe Williams said: “This partnership has the opportunity to make huge changes in public perception of alcohol free beer.”
The alcohol-free tipple will also be seen being served in The Woolpack on fellow ITV soap ‘Emmerdale’ and Zoe went on to explain that the addition of Heineken 0.0 will make the show more “inclusive.”
She said: “The great British pub plays a key role in many of our lives, including the residents of Coronation Street and Emmerdale, so being able to head down to the local and have a pint of alcohol-free beer with friends and family means more people can be included and enjoy time together whilst drinking mindfully.”
When ‘Coronation Street’ first began, it was owned by the snobbish Annie Walker and her husband Jack and over the course of its 62-year-run has seen names above the door such as classic couple Jack and Vera Duckworth, as well as the formidable Bet Lynch and in more recent years has been ran by Steve and Becky McDonald, Michelle Connor and is currently owned by Jenny Connor.
The pub has always sold the fictional brand of Newton and Ridley beer behind the bar but has seldom been seen to sell real-life brands of beer and Heineken UK’s James Crampton hopes that the inclusion of the non-alcohol beer will become “mainstream” as a result.
He told The Daily Star: “We want low and no alcohol beer to become mainstream via the huge influence and cultural currency.”
John Whiston, from ITV, said: “This is a gentle reminder that there are great, modern, thirst-quenching alternatives to having one too many pints of Newton and Ridley.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Malandra Burrows has been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer.
The 56-year-old actress – who is best known for having played Kathy Glover on ITV soap opera ‘Emmerdale’ from 1985 until 2001 – found a lump in her left breast earlier this year and is set to undergo a course of chemotherapy over the next six months.
She said: “I just happened to catch myself [while exercising] and thought: ‘Good grief, what’s that?’ I thought it must be a gland, but a few days later it was still there, so I rang my GP and they asked if I could come in the next hour.”
Despite initially being dismissed by her GP, the former soap star had a follow-up scan explained she was being greeted by a Macmillian nurse and she just “knew” it was bad news.
She told OK! Magazine: “A week later I was at the hospital and the first consultant told me it was a cyst. He said: ‘I won’t be seeing you again.’ The relief I felt. But then the consultant said they needed to see me as soon as possible and added, ‘Could you bring someone with you? But I thought I’ve got to take this on my own. I’m single, and I felt I couldn’t do that to a friend.When I went in, I found myself greeted by a Macmillan nurse and I just knew.”
The former ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here’ contestant – who has never married but was previously in a relationship with ‘Emmerdale’ co-star Ian Sharrock – went on to reveal that she is determined to get through it as she takes things “day by day.”
She said: “She nearly broke down telling me, but I just went, ‘Don’t be daft! We’ll get through it and I’m going to ring that bell [to celebrate the end of treatment].’ It’s just day by day. I might have a good day, then five bad days, I just have to take them as they come. You’ve got to make nice moments, they become so precious. Even though they might be so simple, when you’ve got cancer, they become wonderful, momentous ones. I’ve kind of gone into combat mode. If I look back, I’ve given it everything I can and that’s all I can do. I hate to say it, but when it’s your life at stake you’re prepared to do everything to get through. That’s helped me focus.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ardal O’Hanlon thinks comedy has “changed a lot” since he started out.
The 56-year-old actor – who is known for playing Father Dougal McGuire in classic sitcom ‘Father Ted’ – explained that these days comedians have to be “a lot more careful” with that they joke about because “any little slip up” will be “seized upon” because of social media.
He said: “It has a [changed] lot. You have to be more careful about what you say with social media. Any little faux pas or slip-up will be seized upon so you censor yourself a bit more. There are far more female comedians now, from more diverse backgrounds, more disabled comedians, so there’s great variety. And it’s kind of changed slightly from joke tellers to storytellers. People are telling their story, which is unique to them. Ultimately, the objective is the same, which is to make people laugh. ”
The funnyman – who has been married to Melanie O’Hanlon for several years and has children Emily, Rebecca and Red with her – went on to reflect on his time in ‘Father Ted’, noting that its popularity “opened doors” for him in a way he never thought possible.
He told Metro newspaper’s SixtySeconds column: “It [changed my life] to some degree. I was getting on fine doing stand-up in London at the time and was really enjoying it. But ‘Father Ted’ takes you to another level, it opens doors for you in a way that I never imagined. It’s funny when a show like that stops because you just move on to the next job and don’t really dwell on it. But because the show became so popular, people associated me with that character, who I was very proud of and happy to play. I look back fondly on that show and that whole period in my life.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Roberts’ heart was being “strangled” before he underwent a life-saving operation.
The ‘Homes Under the Hammer’ host recently told how he had “hours to live” when he was admitted to hospital after suffering chest pains, and he has now updated fans about the procedure, in which he had one-and-a-half litres of fluid drained from around his heart.
Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’, he said: “Within three or four hours I was in an emergency operating ward having a tube put into this sac around the heart and they drained off a litre and a half of fluid. It was literally sort of strangling myself.
“It was very bizarre that I was awake throughout the whole process, so I watched as they drew out all this death-giving liquid that was in my chest. I’m still here.”
Martin had suffered a cardiac tamponade – when extra fluid builds up in the space around the heart – just weeks after he had made a two-day dash across Europe to give vital supplies to Ukrainians, following Russia’s invasion of the country.
‘GMB’ presenter Richard Madeley admitted he and his co-host Susanna Reid had been worried about the 58-year-old star when they had spoken to him when the TV presenter was on the Polish-Ukraine border.
He said: “I have to say to you Martin, when Susanna and I spoke to you when you were in Medyka about a month ago, we spoke after the show and we were a bit concerned about you.
“You had driven pretty much non-stop across Europe to get there, and although you gave a very good account of yourself you looked exhausted. You then came home and this terrible health crisis just suddenly fell out of a clear blue sky.”
Martin replied: “I’ve been feeling rough since I got back [from Ukraine] I don’t know if it was the journey down there, there was a real tightness in my chest and difficulty breathing.
“I’m aware of signs of a heart attack. It was those things with some tingling, and by Tuesday and Wednesday my wife took me to A E in Bath.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Marcus Bentley wants ‘Big Brother’ to return.
The 54-year-old broadcaster is best known for having narrated the reality show – which saw groups of strangers live together in a specially constructed house isolated from the outside world throughout its original run and believes the programme is “sorely missed” and in need of a revival.
He said: “‘Big Brother’ is sorely missed and there is nothing out there quite like it. People were talking about it when we were all in lockdown. It was a strange time, we were all stuck at home and there was a big call for it to come back.”
The Geordie voice-over artist – who narrated the show from 2000 until 2018 and reprised his role throughout all of the series’ celebrity editions – went on to claim that he “loves” the show and wants it to come back.
He is quoted by The Daily Star newspaper as saying: “This time it feels a bit different. I haven’t seen any denials and I’ve seen no rubbishing of the claims. I want it to come back. I love the show. It’s how I made my living and I do think it will come back.”
Marcus’ comments come just days after it was reported that the long-running reality show is to return to screens in autumn 2023, but this time will be aired on ITV2 despite having aired on Channel 4 and Channel 5 during its initial run.
While nothing has been confirmed by ITV, it was recently claimed that former ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ winner Rylan Clark is a favourite to replace former hosts Davina McCall and Emma Willis.
An insider told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Rylan couldn’t have made it any clearer with his intention – he would love that job. Those working on the early stages of the production think the same and
this role is made for Rylan. He is the first choice of host above Davina [McCall] and Emma [Willis] for many.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Tarrant and his partner have taken in a Ukrainian refugee family.
The former ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ host and his significant other Jane Bird have welcomed a Ukrainian woman, her nine-month-old baby, and her elderly mother into their home in Berkshire, south east England, after the family’s home nation was invaded by Russia, and the 75-year-old star has told them they can stay as long as they like.
He said: “They keep talking about going home some time, but I say, ‘You don’t even know what your home’s like. Is it a pile of bricks? You don’t know what’s there waiting for you’. So they are very welcome to stay.
“The husband, who is still fighting in the Ukraine, fixed up for them to get into this country. They got through to Poland, and got their paperwork sorted so they could come across.
“I can’t tell you their names – there’s security reasons because the husband is still fighting and the other set of parents are still trying to get out.”
Chris admitted the family were sleeping on airport floors in Poland when he made contact with them, and he was able to “short-cut” some of the red tape to ensure he could bring the mother, baby and her mum over to England.
He explained: “I said, ‘We’ve got to do something about this’. The world just feels so helpless that this vile, evil thing is happening in 2022. You can’t believe this is happening.
“We said, ‘We really ought to do something’. I sent money and stuff and you think, ‘I wonder how much of that gets through?’
“So a friend of ours contacted us and said, ‘Would you like to help the Ukrainians?’ I said, ‘Of course we would, we’d love to – but we understand the red tape with the government is so slow?’
“We sort of managed to short-cut all that. You can take money every week to take them, and I don’t want any of that, I just want to look after these people.”
Chris – who was in Ukraine two years ago filming his Channel 5 show ‘Extreme Railways’ – admitted the family are “just really nice people”.
He added to The Sun newspaper: “We just look after them and help them with shopping and stuff. The baby speaks nothing – just Ukrainian gurgles, I think.
“The mum has reasonable English and her mum doesn’t speak much at all. But they’re just really nice people.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Medic Bob is to return to ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here’
The 71-year-old paramedic – whose real name is Robert McCarron – served as medical expert on the ITV survival show normally set in Australia from its inception in 2002 until it was forced to move to Wales due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and is reportedly set to reunite with hosts Ant and Dec for an all-star edition to be held in South Africa later this year.
He told The Daily Star newspaper: “There are hippos, monkeys, baboons and snakes [in South Africa]. The variety of wild animals is much greater. Therefore it is much more dangerous!”
During his time on the UK version of the reality show, Bob famously swooped in to help ‘You Are What You Eat’ presenter Gillian McKeith,62, when she appeared to faint live on air after it was announced she had to take part in what would have been her seventh consecutive trial.
Bob has also worked on the German version of the series and joked that during his time there he noticed that the contestants are “much tougher” as part of their culture.
He said: “The German stars are much tougher. I do not really know why. But that seems to be part of German culture.”
It comes just days after it was reported that former contestants Stacey Solomon and Caitlyn Jenner are in talks for an to take part in the all-stars version of the series later this summer.
The ‘Loose Women’ star and former ‘X Factor’ contestant, 32, was crowned Queen of the Jungle back in 2010 while ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ alum Caitlyn reached sixth place on the show back in 2019.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It’s still really early days but ‘I’m A Celebrity’ bosses are keen to bring back the most talked-about stars. Stacey and Caitlyn were both great value in their years and reckon they’ll be even better viewing a second time.”
The two-week long South Africa-set series will be a spin-off of the main show and a source previously claimed that the “most loved” campmates will return for the show, ahead of the regular series’ planned return to its native Australia.
The insider said: “The team behind ‘I’m A Celebrity’ are making a brand new spin-off of the hit series featuring the most
loved, favourite campmates from previous years. The new edition is likely to air in 2023 but before that viewers will
get to enjoy the show’s much anticipated return to Australia in November.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Helen Skelton has split from her husband Richie Myler.
The 38-year-old TV star – who has Ernie, six, Louis, five and Elsie, four months, with Richie – has taken to Instagram to confirm the news to her followers.
Helen wrote on the photo-sharing platform: “Very sad to say that Richie and I are no longer a couple. He has left the family home. We will be doing our best to co parent our small children. [broken-heart emojis] (sic)”
Helen and Richie – who is a professional rugby league player – have been married since 2013.
Shortly before she announced their split, Helen spoke about the stresses of motherhood on social media.
She said: “A mama is always full of emotions. full of love. full of anxiety and worries. full of exhaustion and lack of energy. full of mum guilt and doubt. full of pride in her kids. full of pure joy.
“She feels it all, that’s the beauty of her, she carries it all, too. And yet she gets up every day and does it all over again. (sic)”
Helen previously revealed that she turns down any work that interferes with her childcare plans.
The ‘Countryfile’ star explained that she’s determined to spend some quality time at home.
Asked whether her parental responsibilities influence her career, Helen said: “[It’s] 100 per cent a factor. I was very lucky that when we had Ernie, we moved to France for my husband’s work.
“We were there for the best part of three years and so I was lucky because from him being born, I got that time to be with him and I think since then that’s always been important to me.”
