OHMYGOSSIP — Big Zuu was among the big winners at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday (08.05.22).
The 27-year-old star – who presents ‘Big Zuu’s Big Eats’ on Dave – won the Entertainment Performance and Features gongs at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
In his Features acceptance speech, the TV star – whose mother is from Sierra Leone and his father from Lebanon – told the audience: “Representation is so important.
“Growing up, there weren’t many chefs or people that looked like me on telly. And now, there’s young people watching us doing our ting, going, ‘You know what, if these wastemen can win a BAFTA, surely we can’.”
The London-born later admitted to being shocked by his success in the Entertainment Performance category.
He joked: “I kind of let it all out in the first speech!”
Elsewhere, the hard-hitting dramas ‘Time’ and ‘Help’ also won two awards each.
Jodie Comer won the Leading Actress gong for her performance ‘Help’, while her co-star Cathy Tyson claimed the Supporting Actress accolade.
Jodie, 29, played a young care worker in the one-off drama, and she thanked the real-life carers who helped her with her research.
She said: “The biggest reward is that they felt truly represented with the telling of this story.”
‘Time’ – the three-part drama about prison life – won the Mini-series award ahead of ‘It’s a Sin’, ‘Landscapers’ and ‘Stephen’, while Sean Bean – who starred in the show alongside Stephen Graham – was handed the Leading Actor prize.
Sean, 63, didn’t attend the ceremony but Stephen was at the event and he explained why he loved making the drama series.
He said: “This is the reason why I wanted to be an actor as a kid, to tell stories which had a social commentary.”
Meanwhile, Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice won Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment award for their silent routine on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
Rose – who was born deaf – said: “Thank you to every single person who has voted for us. It’s a very special moment for us and hopefully it’s shown how powerful TV can be, where actually it can influence and change things.”
Sir Billy Connolly was awarded a BAFTA Fellowship and the comedian admitted to being “very proud” of his accomplishment.
In a pre-recorded message, the 79-year-old star – who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013 – joked: “It has made me such a happy man getting these good attendance medals now my career is out the window.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Emmerdale’ is to air a flash forward week, with Cain Dingle heavily involved.
The ITV show is to air a special week of episodes from Monday May 9th, which will feature a misty graveyard with an open grave, the slamming of an iron police cell door and the sound of a gunshot rings out in the woods.
Viewers will also see a crumpled car steaming in the gloom following a terrible accident.
The war between Cain – who is played by Jeff Hordley – and Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) looks set to intensify.
What’s more, Noah’s (Jack Downham) behaviour looks set to play a part in the week’s drama.
He has escalated his obsession with Chloe (Jessie Elland) and has been tracking her phone, as well as spying on her with his drone.
In more dramatic and spooky scenes, Gabby (Rosie Bentham) fears Jamie Tate is back from the “dead” at Home Farm.
Gabby recently discovered Jamie is in fact alive, despite the rest of the village believing he has met his maker.
She recently said: “I think it’s going to be a really gripping storyline!
“The viewers seemed to be really shocked at Jamie’s disappearance as it was so unexpected, but as there was no body found, it wasn’t completely solved.
“I liked the Jamie and Gabby dynamic as I thought the characters worked well together, both being very feisty and scheming.
“Gabby is willing to go to all efforts to find out the truth about Jamie. She’ll do it on her own if she has to. Her intrigue finds her going to places she’s never been before and doing things out of paranoia and fear.
“She drags Dawn along with her, pulling her into the drama as she goes along, and they end up finding something really shocking during their adventures. Her paranoia about Jamie increases more and more, and eats Gabby up as she goes along.”

OHMYGOSSIP — John Virgo has praised Jim Davidson as a “comic genius” and says it’s a “waste of talent” that he’s no longer on TV.
The 76-year-old former pro snooker player co-hosted BBC game show ‘Big Break’ alongside the comedian – who has come up against cancel culture due to some of his views and jokes in his stand-up shows – throughout most of the 90s, and John believes it’s a shame Jim’s talents are not on the small screen nowadays.
He said: “Jim is a comic genius and yet he can’t appear on television, because he has a black mark against his name.
“It’s understandable. I just feel it’s a waste of a talent.”
John also recalled his and Jim’s ‘Big Break’ days, admitting they had an “incredible” run on the programme.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, he added: “It was life-changing. We replaced ‘Question of Sport’ in their slot and the viewing figures were better than they had from the first day.
“We were up against ‘Blind Date’ and we were getting as many viewers. It was incredible.”
‘Big Break’ ran for 222 episodes from 1991 to 2002, and featured John demonstrating a trick shot which had to be replicated by a contestant.
The game show also featured multiple appearances from several pro snooker players, who would team up with contestants on the programme, including Jimmy White and Dennis Taylor, who appeared 11 times, and Stephen Hendry, who was on nine episodes of the series.
In September 2020, Davidson sparked fury with an expletive-filled rant about dance troupe Diversity, in which he suggested they do a “mugging thing”.
He blasted their controversial ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ performance – which narrated the death of George Floyd, a black man who was murdered in May 2020 when white police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck – branding it “f****** ridiculous”, and claiming they “don’t give a f***” about George.
He said: “Diversity, what the f*** do you want? You want to be famous, don’t you? You want to be all around the world. That’s why you’re doing it, you don’t give a f*** about George. F****** ridiculous.
“What more can people do before you say, ‘Oh that’s enough now?’ You don’t see white couples on adverts anymore, do you? Most TV presenters are non-white. ‘The Golden Girls’, that’s being made by black people. Tom and Jerry’s mum will probably be reinstated.
“And there’s loads of white people sticking up for you. Young white girls walking around with banners, ‘defund the police’, ‘support black people’. Well, I say most young girls. Gemma’s sister is not holding up a banner as she was violently mugged by three black men. Perhaps Diversity can do a mugging thing.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Davina McCall doesn’t see her relationship with her ex-husband as a “failure”.
The 54-year-old TV presenter was married to her ex Matthew Robertson for 18 years, and while the pair “didn’t go the distance”, the former ‘Big Brother’ host insists they “did well” and made “three great kids”.
Davina – who shares children Holly, 20, Tilly, 18, and 15-year-old Chester with Matthew – said: “That there’s no such thing as failure if you learn something along the way.
“With Matthew and me, I don’t see our relationship as a failure.
“We were married for 18 years – that was a successful marriage. We didn’t go the distance, but we did well, and we made three great kids.”
Davina has also opened up about experiencing menopause in the workplace, admitting she used to forget the contestants’ names and would sometimes make autocue errors while presenting dance talent show ‘Stepping Out’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Rob Beckett insists comedians shouldn’t be the victims of cancel culture, as long as they have poked fun at people in the right way.
The 36-year-old stand up – who stars in ‘Rob Romesh Vs’ alongside Romesh Ranganathan – has defended the rights of comedians, but he admits comedy does have to “evolve with the world”.
He told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Ultimately, if it’s coming from a good place and the audience are laughing then it’s all right.
“I think you can pick on someone if it’s something that they’ve chosen to do, but you can’t pick on someone if they don’t have any choice in it.
“Comedy evolves with the world. There are certain things you’d say in the Sixties and Seventies you can’t say now and there’ll be stuff in the 2040s or 2050s you can say now but you won’t be able to say then.
“This question always comes up every five or ten years and then it goes away again.
“But between the performer and the audience, nobody really cares.”
Rob has been gearing up for the third series of his hit comedy show alongside Romesh, which will see the pair take on ventures they’re hopeless at such as modelling, singing and managing a restaurant.
Previous seasons have seen the audience witness their epic failures when they took on boxing, country music and drag.
He added: “I’d like to do Bollywood and we haven’t done Formula 1. It would be quite funny to do a battle rap with Romesh because Romesh loves hip-hop.
“We’ve both got dogs, so it would be funny to do dog training at Crufts. I’d also like to go to Japan and learn about martial arts.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sara Davies has revealed how she and her ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro partner Aljaz Skorjanec avoided the show’s so-called curse.
The ‘Dragons’ Den’ star – who appeared in the 2021 series of the Latin and ballroom show alongside the Slovenian professional – has told how Aljaz made sure he spent some time bonding with her husband Simon Davies over a football match and a few beers.
Writing in her new book ‘We Can All Make It: My Story’, she explained: “Aljaž said, ‘Can you do me a favour — can you just go and do some work for half an hour or something like that, basically go make yourself scarce?’
“What he wanted to do is have that time with Simon.
“Forty minutes later, I found the two of them sitting on the sofa with a beer watching the football, chatting with the kids.”
The 38-year-old entrepreneur also admitted Aljaz’s decision to quit the BBC One series was well thought through.
Sara said: “I did know – it’s not an overnight decision that he’s come to – it’s something he has been working towards.”
Last month, Aljaz announced he was leaving ‘Strictly’ after nine years on the show.
He shared a series of photos on Instagram and captioned the images: “A little while ago I made the tough decision that Strictly 2021 would be my last. The show has given me an opportunity and freedom to create and express myself in front of millions of people every weekend for the last nine years. The love and support I got from the team of producers was second to none … I am forever grateful to them! (sic)”
His wife, former ‘Strictly’ pro Janette Manrara, added: “I cannot express the sadness in my heart to see @aljazskorjanec say goodbye to @bbcstrictly, but at the same time there is so much joy in my heart for what he has brought to the show these past nine years (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Danielle Armstrong burst into tears after being diagnosed with endometriosis and told she might struggle to conceive.
The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star was given the devastating news in December 2018 and didn’t feel she could tell anyone about the condition, in which tissue similar to the lining of the womb starts to grow in other places, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes.
She said: “I remember walking out of that appointment and I was sitting in the car park just crying on my own.
“I didn’t want to tell anyone about it. My mum’s a worrier, so anything to do with doctors I wouldn’t tell her until afterwards.
“And one of my close friends was suffering from breast cancer, so I didn’t want to be that friend who was like, ‘I’ve got all this going on’.”
But 18 months after she was diagnosed, Danielle gave birth to her daughter Orla, who she shares with her childhood sweetheart and now-fiance Tom Edney, in May 2020.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper’s Fab Daily, she said: “I look at her and I just absolutely love being a mum. She’s my little bestie. I love her so much.
“She’s little Miss Independent, she always gets what she wants.
“With endometriosis, it can get worse as the years go on. When the time comes and we do start trying for baby number two, I’m just going to go with it and see what happens.
“Touch wood, for me it’s going to be really easy and we’ll have the same experience we had with our little girl.
“If not, I would definitely go back to my GP and get more checks done, and get all the information I can get.”
Following Orla’s birth, Danielle wrote on Instagram: “My World Is Complete Orla Mae Edney Born May 26th at 16:30pm, Weighing A Healthy 8Ibs11 #mybabygirl #daughter #myworld (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Julia Bradbury says telling her kids she had cancer was the “hardest thing” she will ever do in her life.
The 51-year-old TV presenter underwent a mastectomy and had two lymph glands removed in October after being diagnosed with breast cancer last July, and but she admits explaining her diagnosis to her children, Zephyr, 10, and twins Xanthe and Zena, seven, was her toughest moment.
She said: “Telling your children you have cancer is the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do in your life. You also don’t know how much you tell them to be realistic, and how much do you need to protect them. It’s a very tricky balance. I don’t think any parent really knows what to do.
“One of my children said, ‘Can I still hug you’ and the other said, ‘Is it contagious?’ I never thought about either of those two things.
“You just don’t know what’s going through their mind. You do your best, but it’s a very difficult thing to navigate.”
Julia has filmed a new ITV documentary, ‘Julia Bradbury: Breast Cancer and Me’ – which is airing tonight at 9pm – and she admitted sharing her experience “seemed like the right thing to do”.
Explaining her reasons behind making the film, she said on ‘This Morning’: “I’ve been honest about the discovery of my lump from the very beginning because I’ve always been a campaigner for cancer.
“My mother had cancer, my father had cancer, so I’ve been an ambassador for several cancer charities throughout my career and ironically I am an ambassador for ovarian cancer in the UK.
“But when I did discover the lump, I was very open about having mammograms and encouraging women to go to the doctor if you find something – trust your instincts and I even posted a picture on my social media accounts of me having a mammogram. It was just a natural progression from that.
“I didn’t suddenly want to drop off the face of the earth and not talk about what happened to the lump and mammograms.
“I know that by being open about this, people feel I’m there with them through some of their journeys and it has broken some of the stigmas about breast cancer and talking about it and the impact it has on everybody in your life.”

OHMYGOSSIP — BBC Four have announced a brand-new weekly slot dedicated to classic dramas.
Commencing on May 25th, the broadcaster will be taking its viewers on a trip down memory lane, by showcasing programmes handpicked from the BFI’s 100 BBC Television Gamechangers list.
Among the list of shows that “changed the face of television”, which will play every Wednesday at 10pm on BBC Four, are classics such as 1996 drama ‘Our Friends in the North’, which starred Daniel Craig, Christopher Eccleston, Gina McKee and Mark Strong.
Other programmes set to be shown in the timeslot include 1993’s ‘Buddha of Suburbia’, 1996’s ‘Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit’, and 1982 series ‘Boys From The Blackstuff’, which was penned by playwright Alan Bleasdale.
The BFI’s 100 BBC Television Gamechangers was complied by the Institute’s expert team of television curators, archivists, and programmers.
Th new slot will uphold BBC’s commitment to remain as a place for specialist arts, performance, history, science, factual and music content, as well as international drama.
James Stirling, BBC 100 Executive Editor, said: “The BFI’s expert team of curators have produced a fascinating list of BBC TV programmes that have transformed broadcasting over the last 100 years, both across the UK and around the world. BBC Four will delve into the BBC’s library of rich content to share a selection of the boundary-pushing and era-defining dramas from the BFI’s list with audiences throughout the centenary year with a new Wednesday night slot.”
Lisa Kerrigan, BFI Senior Curator of Television, added: “The programmes on our list had gamechanging impacts on television itself, while also highlighting the ways in which BBC TV has changed us as a nation and beyond. The list was developed by contributors from across the BFI, and shaped by a core group of BFI TV curators and programmers, and it reflects the astounding history, variety and achievement of BBC television.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Blu Hydrangea says identifying as non-binary has made them “not care as much” about how they look.
The 26-year-old drag queen from Northern Ireland, who was crowned the first-ever Queen of The World on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Versus the World’, came out as non-binary in February, and admits it has been life-changing.
Blu told the Metro newspaper: “It’s kind of allowed me to be a bit more experimental with how I look and not care as much. If I want to wear eye make-up to the bar out for dinner that night, I will.
“I’ve got a mullet now, which is real. I’m just allowing myself to do things that I would have boxed myself into not doing before because I felt I had to stick to a gender or people were going to judge me. Now I’m just happy being me.”
The drag queen, who performed in a fierce selection of fabulous get ups whilst on the show, said the best advice Ru once gave was realising that the power available in drag was also available out of drag.
They added: “That’s one of the best tips that Ru has ever given me. It’s honestly true. You think that getting up in all of this regalia kind of gives you an extra confidence but the reality of the situation is you’re still the same person underneath. You should feel the self-confidence when you’re out of drag.”
Blu, who’s been with their partner Johnson for eight years, says they’re grateful to have someone to turn to when they’re feeling low.
They said: “I have a partner, We’ve been together eight years. Actually, when I first dropped out of university, he was like, ‘You need to do something with this year out’. He applied for a make-up course for me and from there, one thing led to another.
“Drag is a weird thing to want to do and he’s never turned his nose up at it, which is fabulous. He’s kind of my rock.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Ann Davies has died aged 87.
The ‘Doctor Who’ star – whose husband was late ‘The Good Life’ actor Richard Briers, with whom she shared daughters Lucy and Katie – has tragically passed away, and her agent confirmed the news on Thursday (28.04.22) in a statement on Twitter.
Barry Langford wrote: “Sadly my lovely client of 34 years Ann Davies passed away yesterday.
“A superb actress with TV credits including #DoctorWho and #TheSculptress, Ann was devoted to her beloved late husband #RichardBriers and their daughters Lucy and Kate.
“She will be very much missed. #RIP Annie”
Ann is best known to ‘Doctor Who’ fans as Jenny, who appeared in a number of episodes alongside William Hartnell’s Time Lord in 1964.
She then went onto star as Mrs. Singleton in ‘Grange Hill’ in the 1990s, and also appeared in an episode of ‘Doctors’ and ‘EastEnders’.
She appeared alongside Richard in several TV roles and films such as 1992’s ‘Peter’s Friends’ and 1995’s ‘In The Bleak Midwinter’, while they were both part of the radio adaptation of ‘Brothers in Law’.
Richard sadly died in 2013 aged 79.
Fans have flooded social media with tributes to the late actress, with many of them recalling their favourite roles.
One fan wrote: “I loved Ann in Doctor Who. Now she’s with her husband forever.”
Another Whovian added: “Superstar in a legendary Dr Who adventure, and she’ll never be forgotten by the fans! Those episodes get rewatched a lot in my house.”
A different fan reflected on their own experience actually meeting the star, as they tweeted: “Ah so sad to read this. Annie was so very kind and welcoming to me when I was a humble understudy working with Richard. Thoughts to the family.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dominic West feared he wasn’t the right man to play Prince Charles in the new series of ‘The Crown’ because he “didn’t look anything like him”.
‘The Wire’ star was signed to play the heir to the throne in the fifth series of the royal drama, but some fans of the show were left baffled by the casting.
Dominic, 52, has now admitted he shared their concerns as he was worried he “didn’t look anything like” Prince Charles.
He told the Daily Mail newspaper: “It’s quite disconcerting as I didn’t look anything like him when I looked in the mirror.
“I kept telling the producers that they had cast the wrong person. But they explained that this was not a show of imitations. But that was difficult as this is a real person who is hugely famous and recognisable.”
The show follows the royals over the years and casts different actors to play the main characters in the various stages of their lives.
Dominic replaces Josh O’Connor as Charles.
Josh played the royal in the third and fourth seasons, and picked up an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for the role last year.
The fifth series of ‘The Crown’ is due to drop on Netflix in November and is set to cover the early-to-mid 1990s.
Dominic will star opposite ‘The Night Manager’ actress Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, Princess of Wales, with Trainspotting’s Jonny Lee Miller taking on the role of Prime Minister John Major.
Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth II, with Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip.
