OHMYGOSSIP — Rose Ayling-Ellis will become the first celebrity to sign a CBeebies Bedtime Story in British Sign Language.
The ‘EastEnders’ actress – who has been deaf since birth – will sign ‘Can Bears Ski?’, which tells a story of a young bear and his dad on a journey into the discovery and management of deafness, on the children’s show.
Rose – who won last year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ – said: “I am super excited to read my first CBeebies Bedtime Story in British Sign Language and it’s even more wonderful to share a story written by a deaf writer.
“I hope deaf children enjoy the story and it inspires hearing children to want to learn BSL more!”
Rose will speak only to introduce the story – which is written by Raymond Antrobus and illustrated by Polly Dunbar – and say goodnight to the viewers.
The plot draws on author Raymond’s own experience to show how isolating it can be for a deaf child in a hearing world.
Rose’s episode, which will be subtitled, will air on Sunday 8th May to mark the end of Deaf Awareness Week.
This comes after Reese Witherspoon became the first Best Actress Oscar winner to take to the ‘CBeebies Bedtime Stories’ seat earlier this year.
The 46-year-old actress read ‘Extraordinary’, which was written by Penny Harrison and illustrated by Katie Wilson.
She followed in the footsteps of several other famous actors, including Orlando Bloom, Ryan Reynolds, Tom Hardy, Chris Evans, Regé-Jean Page, Felicity Jones, David Schwimmer, and Eddie Redmayne, as well as legendary singers Sir Elton John and Dolly Parton.
Idina Menzel previously read ‘Robin’s Winter Song’ by Suzanne Barton, which tells children the tale of a little robin’s first winter.
Gregory Porter became the first star to sing a CBeebies Bedtime Story, when he belted out ‘Moon River’, the classic ballad from Breakfast At Tiffany’s as part of BBC Teach’s Bring the Noise campaign – which helps children discover the joys of music-making – while Chip Crawford accompanied him on the piano.
CBeebies Bedtime Story is on daily at 6.50pm and on BBC iPlayer, with episodes signed by a BSL interpreter airing every Saturday and Sunday.

OHMYGOSSIP — Dave Myers is to undergo chemotherapy for a mystery illness.
The 64-year-old chef – who is known for being part of The Hairy Bikers double act alongside Si King – has revealed he needs to undergo treatment because he “hasn’t been too well recently”, and it will mean he won’t be able to film at a number of festivals this year.
He told Si: “I’ve got to come clean now, I haven’t been too well recently and basically, I’ve got to have some chemo, you [Si King] know all this anyway. So this year is going to be a bit quiet for me, I’m not going to be filming, some of the festivals I’m not going to be able to go to, some may be OK, but this year’s a bit of a write off for us.”
‘The Hairy Bikers Go North’ star felt the need to open up about his condition because he doesn’t want to “hide under a rock”, but he also requested that fans respect his privacy as he battles through and assured listeners that the prognosis is “OK” and he is “going to be fine”.
He added: “I have had to speak up about this because I don’t want to hide under a rock, but I would love it if people respected my privacy and just let me get on with it and give Si and our team all the support they need. That would be great. But look, the prognosis is OK. I’m going to be fine.”
Dave – who has been married to Liliana Orzac since 2011 and is stepfather to her two children – then explained that he needs to look after his diet and joked that he looks “alright” bald.
Speaking on ‘The Hairy Bikers – Agony Uncles’ podcast, he said: “I’ve just got to tuck in, look after myself, eat sensibly and get over this mess, flog books, and be a happy person so within that, that’s where I am. I may be a baldy biker for a while so it’s just a warning, I don’t want to make a fuss about it, I look alright bald actually.
“Under different circumstances I would embrace it more but I feel under these circumstances it’s simply something I have to live with, get on with it, and crack on.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Adrian Chiles has started getting “feelings” for his spoons.
The former ‘The One Show’ presenter has told how he recently realised he has a “favourite” spoon and if he ever happened to sadly lose the kitchen utensil he would “miss it for ever”.
He said: “I surveyed my spoon drawer and considered my feelings. I was disappointed to see I have no fewer than 17 wooden spoons.
“Disappointed because this implies a certain shallowness, as if I’m some kind of spoon lothario, collecting notches on my bedpost, focusing on quantity rather than quality.
“Stirring without love is just exercise, after all. But sorting through them, I realised I do have a favourite.
“It’s more of a spatula than a spoon, but it suits me very well.
“I had always looked out for it without knowing I was doing so and felt a twinge of disappointment if it didn’t come to hand. If ever I lost it for good, I now understood, I would miss it for ever.”
After realising his penchant for spoons, Adrian even hosted a Radio 5 Live phone-in to see if there were others with the same feelings for their servers – and there are.
Writing in his column for The Guardian newspaper, he said: “I get significant stick for ruminating on ball-achingly mundane subjects like this and, I’ll be honest, on this occasion my confidence did start to waver.”
But he added: “Karen in Edinburgh phoned in to tell us she was experiencing what she called spoon grief. A daft notion you may think, but it immediately made perfect sense. Her late mother’s serving spoon was missing, presumed lost. ‘Every time I go in that drawer, I feel so sad,’ she said. There was so much love in that spoon.”
This comes after Adrian made headlines last month when he revealed he has a urinal installed in his house.

OHMYGOSSIP — Mark Wright is to present a travel show for the BBC.
The 35-year-old reality star will explore some of the most popular holiday destinations in Britain alongside his dad Mark Wright Sr. and younger brother Josh Wright in a six-part series called ‘A Wright Old Adventure.’
Mark said: “I’m absolutely buzzing for this. At this stage in my life I want to do things that I really want to do and love! I’m getting to travel the country, see places I would never normally have seen, take on adrenaline experiences and challenge my- self!”
The former ‘TOWIE’ star – who has been married to ex-‘Corrie’ actress Michelle Keegan, 34, since 2015 – admitted the new show is a “dream come true” as he gets to visit British landmarks such as Llandudno in Wales and the Scottish Highlands with his “two best mates” and ex-co-stars.
He is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column as saying: “I’m getting to travel the country, see places I would never normally have seen, take on adrenaline experiences and challenge myself. And I’ll do all of this with two of my favourite people on earth — my two best mates, the bro and my dad! It’s a dream come true and I can’t wait. It’s gonna be one hell of a ride.”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ campmate was first seen on ‘The Only Way is Essex’ during its debut series in 2010 and spent almost eight years on the show with his mum and dad, his sister Jessica and the late Nanny Pat, starring alongside the likes of Gemma Collins, and his former flames Lauren Goodger and Samantha Faiers.
‘A Wright Old Adventure’ is set to air on the BBC later this year.

OHMYGOSSIP — Rosie Marcel was rushed to hospital for surgery.
The 45-year-old actress – who is best known for her long-running role as cardiothoracic surgeon Jac Naylor in the BBC medical drama ‘Holby City’ – took to Instagram on Thursday (05.06.22) to reveal she had to go to hospital, where she went under the knife the following day.
Alongside a photo of herself in the hospital bed, she wrote: “Ended up at the old emergency room the other night. Stoke mandeville is my new local ish hospital and they were brilliant. Ambulance crew were amazing too!(sic)”
Rosie – who starred as Jac in the medical drama from 2005 up until its final episode aired in March this year – explained she had surgery “the next day” and was swiftly home, as she praised the NHS for taking care of her.
She added: “Ambulance crew were amazing too. Had surgery the next day and home soon after that. Very very grateful to the nhs for looking after me and treating me quickly. #fentanyl #morphine all the good stuff!!! #nhs (sic)”
Rosie’s trip to hospital comes just weeks after the final episode of ‘Holby City’, which saw her own character undergo a life-or-death operation to remove her brain tumour which eventually saw the fan favourite pass away after suffering a stroke in the arms of her colleague and friend Sacha, played by Bob Barrett.
After the final episode had aired, Rosie – who is married to gym owner Ben Stacey and has seven-year-old daughter Beau with him – wrote on Instagram: “Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart for all your incredible support of our incredible show and me!”
‘Holby City’ was launched by the BBC in 1999 as a spin-off show to fellow medical drama ‘Casualty’, but producers made the “difficult” decision to axe it earlier this year “to make room for new opportunities” at the BBC.

OHMYGOSSIP — Andy Whyment wants to stay in ‘Coronation Street’ for another 22 years.
The 41-year-old actor has played Kirk Sutherland on the ITV soap since 2000, and he is keen to remain on the famous cobbles until the show’s bosses give him the boot.
Andy – who previously starred in ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ – said: “If ‘Corrie’ will have me, I’d love to be there. When I came out of the jungle, I was asked in an interview what my plans were, and the answer was, ‘I’m going back to ‘Corrie’.’ It’s my bread and butter – and I’ll be there until they tell me Kirk is no longer required.
“When you first start you take each day as it comes. Even now I still don’t take it for granted, as I’ve seen so many people come and go. Every year when I get a new contract, my wife and I raise a glass to say ‘Cheers’ – as that’s another year off the mortgage.”
Before heading to Weatherfield, Andy starred as Darren Sinclair-Jones in BBC sitcom ‘The Royle Family’ and then joined ‘Corrie’ in 2000.
And the star still finds it “surreal” that he is on the ITV soap.
He added to Inside Soap magazine: “When I was on ‘The Royle Family’, I really didn’t realise how big that show was. But when you go into ‘Coronation Street’ it’s huge, and I can’t get away with going unnoticed – as soon as people hear my voice, they know its Kirk from ‘Coronation Street’.
“I still find it surreal, although at the end of the day, I’m just doing a job that I’ve always loved. Even now, when I go through the barriers at work, I still get a buzz thinking, ‘I’m going to be on the cobbles for the day.’
“I like to think that I’m as lovable as Kirk is, and that I’m loyal as well. To be honest, I have quite a boring life! I do my job, come home, go to play golf now and again and go to Old Trafford. And I think Kirk is quite similar in that he goes home to Beth and the dog.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Susanna Reid hit back at Prime Minister Boris Johnson on live TV today after he asked: “Who is Lorraine”, as she introduced breakfast TV legend Lorraine Kelly.
The PM appeared on ‘Good Morning Britain’, live from 10 Downing Street, on Tuesday (03.05.22) for the first time in nearly five years, but he was baffled at the end of the gruelling 30-minute chat when Susanna said Lorraine was “waiting to take up all the issues you have brought up on this interview”.
Boris replied: “Who is Lorraine?”
Susanna looked shocked and replied: “Who is Lorraine? Lorraine is a legend!”
He then uttered under his breath: “Oh fantastic, well, I’m looking forward to talking to Lorraine.”
The screen then cut to Lorraine, who said: “Wow. Thank you, Susanna. A masterclass in a political interview. Excellent stuff.”
The star later had a quick chat with Susanna, who was still sat in Downing Street, during her ‘Lorraine’ show.
Asked if the interview with the Prime Minister was “worth the wait”, Susanna joked: “I’m surprised I haven’t been thrown out, Lorraine.”
She added: “Yeah, it was remarkable speaking to him. Look, it’s been almost five years since Boris Johnson has appeared on ‘Good Morning Britain’ and for just over two of those years he has been Prime Minister.
“Fascinating talking to him – you know, it’s historic even being in this building, even being in this room but of course the weight of those Partygate fines hangs over these premises.”
Susanna had started the interview by asking Boris if he is honest.
He replied: “I do my best to represent faithfully and accurately what I believe and sometimes it’s controversial and sometimes it offends people, but that’s what I do…”
Pushed on whether he lies, he said: “If you’re talking about the statements I made in the House of Commons, I was inadvertently, I was wrong and I’ve apologised for that. But look at what we have done…”
Susanna also quizzed the Prime Minister about the rising cost of living, and about Ukrainian refugees coming to the UK amid Russia’s invasion in their country.
She asked why some have been “waiting weeks” to be let into the UK.
He said: “Well, we’ve done a huge amount to help Ukrainian women and children in the area, but we’re now seeing large numbers coming to the UK…
“Could we have done it faster? Yes, perhaps we could …”
Susanna’s final line of questioning was about the Partygate scandal, several government gatherings during the COVID pandemic – when restrictions prevented most gatherings – which the police have been investigating and handed out fines for, including to the PM.
Boris said: “You know what I’m going to say on this Susanna and I’ve apologised for the things we got wrong during the pandemic and I repeat those apologies, but with great respect I’m going to have to ask you to wait until the conclusion of the investigation.”
Asked if he has been fined again, Boris answered: “No and I’m sure that will not remain a secret.”
Pushed on if he expects to be fined again, the PM responded: “I have no idea. I will make sure that as soon as I’m able to say something on the conclusion of the investigation that you have a lot more from me on this.
“I’m very proud of the things that we did and the steps that we took…”

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Kamara offered to quit ‘The Games’ after being diagnosed with a speech disorder.
The ‘Soccer Saturday’ reporter will commentate on the upcoming ITV show – which is being dubbed a “celebrity Olympics” – but he told bosses he would walk away from the show after he developed neurological disorder apraxia, a motor speech condition that affects brain pathways involved in producing speech.
But ITV refused to accept Chris’ resignation, and, instead, brought in some help for him in the shape of co-commentator Simon Brotherton.
Chris said: “Thankfully I’m on the mend. I did offer to quit but ITV wouldn’t have it, any way shape or form.
But I’d like to thank them for that. They brought in Simon Brotherton to work alongside me in the commentary box, which will be great.
“Simon and I have known each other for a long time. We did Five Live back in 1998 together, when I first started broadcasting. I know Simon and I know how brilliant he is.”
Chris – who is affectionately known as Kammy – has thanked ITV for their support.
He added: “I’d just like to say thanks to ITV and to everyone who has been so supportive. They’ve been incredible, really.”
‘The Games’ will be co-hosted by Holly Willoughby and Freddie Flintoff, and will feature 12 celebrities – including former ‘Coronation Street’ star Ryan Thomas, model Christine McGuinness, and The Wanted singer Max George – taking part in numerous sporting challenges.
Kammy and Simon will provide the commentary, and Alex Scott will be on hand with some trackside reporting.
Last weekend, Kammy revealed he will leave Sky Sports at the end of the current football season after 24 years.
He said in a statement: “My long career at Sky Sports has never felt like work. I’ve spent 24 terrific years at Sky, and leave with the best of memories.
“My time on ‘Soccer AM’, ‘Goals on Sunday’ and, of course, on ‘Soccer Saturday’ with Jeff has been – to coin a phrase – unbelievable.
“I’ve had the time of my life, and look forward to tuning in every Saturday as a fan.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Billy Connolly will be honoured with the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship at this year’s Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards.
The comedian joked he didn’t know about the existence of the Fellowship – the highest accolade bestowed by BAFTA in recognition of an individual’s outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, television or games across their career – but he is delighted to have been recognised.
He said: “I am deeply honoured. Fifty films and … I can’t remember how many TV shows – as well as my stage comedy – added up to something that’s a joy to look back on.
“A lovely thing. I have no regrets at all. I had no idea the Fellowship existed, but I’m told it’s a big deal! [Laughs]. It’s lovely to be recognised and to become a jolly good fellow.”
Billy – who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2013 – lives in the US and is unable to attend the upcoming Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards in London on Sunday (08.05.22) in person so he has sent a video message which will be played during the ceremony.
Previous recipients of the award include Sir David Attenborough, Sir Trevor McDonald, Jon Snow, Sir Bruce Forsyth and Dame Julie Walters.
Emma Baehr, Executive Director of Awards and Content at BAFTA, said: “We’re honoured to be awarding Sir Billy Connolly with the 2022 BAFTA Fellowship Award.
“He has made a remarkable contribution to our industry from his first appearance on Parkinson in 1975, through to becoming a national treasure on stage and screen, adored by fans around the world.
“BAFTA is looking forward to celebrating this award with Sir Billy in due course and thanking him again for his phenomenal career in television.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Nick Knowles has blasted trolls for “upsetting and unfair” remarks about his girlfriend.
The ‘DIY: SOS’ presenter – who has helmed the BBC show since 1999 – was furious after social media trolls accused his 31-year-old partner Katie Dadzie of having ulterior motives for their relationship.
He told The Sun newspaper: “I choose to be on TV. As a result, I expect the whole nine yards. I am up there as an object.
“I’ve chosen to be on TV but my children, or my family, or people I date, for them I feel it’s unfair to have a go at them.
“What upset me was the judgment of her without knowing anything about her or what her motivations might be. I found that upsetting and unfair and felt I needed to say something about it.”
He insisted while his own career choice means he is “there to be shot at verbally on social media”, there has to be a line.
Nick added: “By all means have a go at me, I’m there to be shot at verbally on social media and the rest of it because of what I’ve chosen to do as a living.
“But it feels a bit unfair to have a go at people I care about.”
The 59-year-old presenter also addressed the way people perceive those in the public eye, while he accused other unnamed celebrities as believing their own hype.
He said: “People have a view of celebrities. I consider what I do very much a job. It’s an unusual job and it’s in the public eye.
“A lot of people who do what I do actually start believing in their own press releases – they are special and important.
“I always assume when people meet me that they think I must be that arrogant TV presenter. A lot of people in our industry start from the idea that people actually must be impressed to meet them.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Anthea Turner’s mum has died aged 91.
The 61-year-old TV presenter took to Instagram to reveal the devastating news that her mother, Jean Millicent Turner, passed away from pneumonia last week.
She wrote: “Hello,
Thank you for all your Insta good wishes to my Mum, sadly at 91 pneumonia took its hold and despite the amazing efforts of Nurses and Doctors at Royal Stoke University Hospital we said goodbye to her last week.
So terribly sad but how grateful am I too have had Mum in my life for nearly 62 years.”
Anthea co-hosted children’s TV magazine show ‘Blue Peter’ from 1992 until 1994, and she doesn’t think she would’ve passed her audition if her mum hadn’t prepared her to be “handy with scissors and glue”.
She added: “I don’t believe people just die their spirit lives on and if you look, you’ll find it. When I was much younger, I’d have railed against this but, I am my mother’s daughter and on reflection I’m ticking off a long list of thank yous for the lessons she’s taught me.
They begin with basic manners, table etiquette was high on her agenda, then skills, I’m not sure I’d have passed my Blue Peter audition if she hadn’t made me handy with scissors glue. Mum didn’t relish cooking, but she could bake and my apple pie is a homage to her pastry skills. Only when she became ill a few years ago did I ever see her without makeup, she never wore jeans, anything with a logo and if at home was always ‘front door ready’ in case someone popped in. Mum disliked physical pursuits, had a fear of moths, water and heights, so as a pesky child, taught never to cheek your elders my revenge was climb the tallest tree in the garden and watch the colour drain from her face. But it was her unwavering support for my efforts I can’t thank her enough for. Mum attended Whitlands Collage Rohampton, founded by the Church of England’s National Society as a teaching collage for women and she later used her degree to teach English and RE in various secondary schools. So how did she deal with her dyslexic unacademic daughter? Well, Mum instead of concentrating on what I couldn’t do quietly pushed me towards things I could and like a slight of hand magician (with no spell check to fall back on) I learnt every trick in the book to keep people away from my little problem. I often hear when someone dies a loved one say “They’ve left a hole in their heart” but I don’t feel that because Mum packed it with so much. Since the early 80’s we’ve lived miles apart but what’s strange is she feels closer to me today than she’s ever been – RIP Mum and we’re all looking after Dad @uhnm.nhs (sic)”
