Countdown bosses ‘want Carol Vorderman back’

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Countdown’ bosses would love Carol Vorderman to return to the show as the host – and she says it would be “an honour”.
The 61-year-old star previously co-presented the game show from 1982 until 2008, but Channel 4 bosses are said to want her as the main presenter to replace Anne Robinson, who has quit after a year.
A TV insider told The Sun newspaper: “Carol is such a big part of Countdown and Channel 4 know how much everyone loves her.
“Bosses would love her to come back as the main host, her Countdown journey would come full circle. It would be perfect.”
Carol has responded to such speculation and fans who have been calling for her return, admitting it would be “an honour”.
She wrote on Twitter: “Thank you to all of you saying such lovely things about a possibility of me returning to Countdown. You’re very kind it would be an honour (sic)”
However, she appeared to distance herself from a return to the programme full-time, wishing the person who replaces Anne “all the love”.
She tweeted: “but I want to wish whoever is the lucky human to be the new host all the love and 9 letter words in the world (sic)”
Anne – who became the sixth main presenter of the daytime show and the first woman to take the helm when she took on the role last year – confirmed this week she has quit ‘Countdown’, because she wants to “enjoy” spending more time with her grandchildren and at her New York apartment.
She said: “I have had a blast – we have taken the ratings up and transformed the guests too.
“We no longer have northern newsreaders in Dictionary Corner – we have had a raft of top celebrities.
“But I have made up my mind to quit the show. I only signed on for a year and I have helped them out by doing about 40 shows more than my contract.
“I am moving on because I’ve got a lot going on – grandchildren, a big garden, an apartment in New York – and I want to enjoy them. ‘Countdown’ has taken up more of time than I thought it would.”

Christopher Eccleston joins Young Woman and the Sea cast

OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Eccleston has joined the Disney+ film ‘Young Woman and the Sea’.
The 58-year-old actor has signed on to star in the new movie alongside Daisy Ridley, Tilda Cobham-Harvey and Stephen Graham.
The film is being directed by Joachim Ronning and is currently in production.
The movie, which is based on the book by Glenn Stout, tells the remarkable story of Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Ederle (Ridley) – who became the first woman ever to swim across the English Channel in 1926.
Ederle was the daughter of a German butcher from Manhattan and won gold at the 1924 Olympic Games. She made the attempt to cross the Channel after swimming 22 miles from Battery Park in New York to Sandy Hook in New Jersey – setting a record that stood for 81 years.
Jeff Nathanson has adapted the screenplay for the big screen with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman producing the film.
Christopher previously described how he had a “miserable” experience on the 2013 movie ‘Thor: The Dark World’ – in which he starred alongside Chris Hemsworth.
The former ‘Doctor Who’ star portrayed Malekith in Alan Taylor’s movie but says he signed up for the blockbuster without realising how long it would take to get into character.
Christopher recalled: “They said to me in the negotiations, ‘There’ll be a little bit of make-up’. What they didn’t say was that it’d be seven hours of it, which was very dishonest of them.
“That was a miserable experience and a dreadful performance, but I loved working with Alan – he’s a great director.
“And Hemsworth was fantastic. A generous actor who really had his feet on the ground.”

Matt Le Tissier: We’re not alone

OHMYGOSSIP — Matt Le Tissier believes we’re “not alone in this world” because of all the evidence that suggests UFOs exist.
The former Premier League footballer has “looked into” unidentified flying objects being a possibility, and it has led him to think it “wouldn’t surprise [him]” if there are other beings around.
He said: “UFOs is another one that I kind of looked into, and now you’re just starting to see in the media in the last few weeks, a little bit more about UFOs.
“That’s another whole situation where there seems to be a lot of evidence and not a lot of people talking about it.
“I think the weight of evidence is that, you know what, we’re probably not alone in this world. That wouldn’t surprise me one bit.”
Former ‘Soccer Saturday’ football pundit Matt – who made more than 400 appearances for Southampton throughout his career – also finds the 1969 moon landing, and the conspiracy theories surrounding it, “fascinating”.
Speaking on the ‘Anything Goes’ podcast, he added: “I think I saw an interview with somebody who said we can’t go back to the moon because we destroyed the technology that we had.
“I was like, ‘What? You did what? Why are you expecting me to believe that?’
“Who knows, I don’t know enough about it to be able to have an opinion one way or another, but I’ve looked into it. It’s fascinating, it really is.”
Matt was given the boot from Sky Sports’ ‘Soccer Saturday’ in August 2020.
Confirming his departure, he wrote on Twitter at the time: “Enjoyed my time at sky sports, time to look forward to life’s next challenge, thank you for the support down the years and special thanks to the backroom team which include @CazzaEccles @CarlyBassett @tvtrevstats amongst many others, good luck all have a lovely day (sic)”

Gogglebox star Ellie Warner asks for donations to brain injury charity for her birthday

OHMYGOSSIP — Ellie Warner has asked for donations to a brain injury charity for her birthday, after her fiance Nat was hit by a car.
The 31-year-old TV star – who is known for appearing on Channel 4 show ‘Gogglebox’ alongside her younger sister Izzi – is asking fans to pledge what they can to Headway after Nat Eddleston was left fighting for his life after suffering a broken neck and collapsed lung when hit by a motor in March as he walked home in the early hours.
She wrote on Facebook: “For my birthday this year, I’m asking for donations to Headway – the brain injury association. I’ve chosen this charity because their mission means a lot to me, and I hope that you’ll consider contributing as a way of celebrating with me.”
The Leeds native went on to explain that “every little bit” will help her reach her goal and included information about the charity as she concluded her post.
She added: “Every little bit will help me reach my goal. I’ve included information about Headway – the brain injury association below.
“Headway’s mission is to promote the understanding of all aspects of brain injury and to provide vital information, support and services to people with a brain injury, their families and carers.”
It comes just weeks after it was announced that Ellie and Izzi will be absent from ‘Gogglebox’ for the remainder of the current series following the crash – which took place in the Halton area of Leeds towards the end of March – but Channel 4 bosses will reportedly continue to pay them their full appearance fee.
A source told The Sun: “Bosses paid Ellie her full fee for the show – they didn’t want her or Izzi worrying about money. Of course they’ve honoured the payments – they take duty of care very seriously on the show. Obviously Ellie and Izzi are two of the most loved regulars on the show but it wouldn’t be right for them to have to film a light hearted show when Nat is in such a critical condition.”

Ben Shephard praises ‘incredibly brave’ GMB co-star Kate Garraway

OHMYGOSSIP — Ben Shephard has praised Kate Garraway as “incredibly brave”.
The 47-year-old star – who hosts ‘Good Morning Britain’ alongside the 55-year-old TV presenter – explained there are “no words” to express how much he admires his co-star as she continues to deal with her husband Derek Draper’s ongoing battle with the after-effects of COVID-19, after his body was ravaged by the virus.
He said: “There are no words to express by admiration for how Kate is continuing to manage a heartbreaking situation for her and her family. Not only looking after her children but now her husband Derek as well, and juggling a career because there are bills to pay, especially for his ongoing care. She’s incredibly brave to share her journey to help others.”
Kate – whose husband has been in need of round-the-clock care since he contracted the virus in March 2020 – won a National Television Award for her documentary ‘Finding Derek’, about his recovery, before releasing a follow-up film, ‘Caring for Derek’.
Ben went on to praise his fellow presenter for sharing her “important” journey as she explores the social care system.
He told the Metro newspaper’s SixtySeconds column: “She’s learning about the social care system and how broken it is and if she can make some steps to alleviate the pain for others then it’s hugely important, albeit inviting cameras into their house and sharing the most personal issues they are dealing with.”
The ‘Tipping Point’ host added that Kate – who has 16-year-old daughter Darcey as well as son Bill, 12, with Derek – is “brilliant” at what she does and claimed her story is about a “changed relationship.”
He added: “At the heart of it, it’s about two people it’s about two people who fall in love and have a family and then suddenly, like a lot of people, something happened that changed the course of that relationship. People have come to understand just how brilliant Kate is at what she does.”

Katie Piper hits back at internet trolls over cruel comments

OHMYGOSSIP — Katie Piper has hit out at internet trolls over vile comments.
The TV presenter, 38, was left with life-changing injuries to her face in 2008 after suffering an acid attack aged 24, and the model – who was awarded an OBE for her services to charity and burns victims – underwent 250 surgeries in less than a decade.
Katie has managed to maintain a positive outlook in spite of the harrowing attack, and she stands up to internet trolls who target her on a daily basis.
She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “As soon as I had an internet presence I was trolled all the time. It’s the modern version of the toilet wall at school. I always say, ‘Hurt people, hurt people’. I’m really glad I don’t come from that place of anger and hurt.
“I get something every day and sometimes it is good to challenge people’s views. It’s really disappointing.
“If social media had a policy where you use your passport to sign up and you get verified and you can’t be an egg and abuse people, then we might see some change.”
Founder of The Katie Piper foundation, the star admits at times she’s anxious when appearing on the news because of what people might say.
She added: “I dread doing mainstream stuff like the news. Who is anybody to comment on someone’s appearance? It’s not up to you to do that.
“That one person is having a ripple effect on thousands of people.
“When you go on telly and that’s the reaction, you’re just showing people, who aren’t at your stage that’s what can happen. In the beginning it was crushing, my self-esteem was really low but I’m not in that place any more and I can cope with it.”

Karen Gillan wraps filming on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

OHMYGOSSIP — Karen Gillan has wrapped filming on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’.
The 34-year-old actress took to Instagram on Wednesday (05.05.22) to confirm that she has finished her work on James Gunn’s blockbuster and suggested that it could be her final appearance as Nebula.
Karen wrote on the social media platform: “And that’s a wrap on Nebula in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3!!!!!
“I don’t know if Nebula will return beyond this, it’s possible that this is her final chapter. And if that’s the case, then I just want to say thank you to @jamesgunn for giving me such an interesting, complex and fascinating character to play.
“I have enjoyed this exploration more than any other character I’ve played.
“That was one hell of a decade.
“Thanks for watching… #nebula #gotgvol3 (sic)”
The former ‘Doctor Who’ star previously hailed the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, which is slated for release next year, as Gunn’s “strongest work yet” and explained that she and co-star Pom Klementieff “cried and laughed” at the script.
She explained: “I read that script with Pom Klementieff, who plays Mantis.
“We read it together and we both cried and laughed, but there were full tears. It’s incredible, I think it’s James’ strongest work yet with the Guardians and it’s just brilliant.
“It’s brilliant and it’s emotional and it’s funny and it’s all of those things that you want.”
Karen had suggested that she feels that there is more to come for Nebula in the MCU after the death of her alter ego’s father Thanos in ‘Avengers: Endgame’.
She said: “I don’t feel like her story is over at all. If anything, I feel like her story might just be beginning. We found her in a really broken, vulnerable place and over the course of the movies, she’s had to face the source of all her abuse.
“She’s just had this huge, cathartic experience and the source of the abuse has been eliminated, so what happens next?”

Benedict Cumberbatch knew Spider-Man: No Way Home would be successful

OHMYGOSSIP — Benedict Cumberbatch knew that ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ was going to be a success.
The 45-year-old actor featured in the movie as Dr. Stephen Strange and felt that the acclaimed blockbuster, which starred Tom Holland as the web-slinging superhero, was a celebration of Spider-Man on the big screen.
Speaking on ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’, Benedict said: “Well, I think it’s a testament to Jon Watts and the three… Jacob (Batalon), Z (Zendaya), and Tom.
“They’ve got this beautiful John Hughes homage mixed in with the ultimate universal love there is for that kid. That hero, for Spider-Man and Peter Parker. And it was such a good script. Such a good concept. And then there was that ‘little secret’. It was so much fun.”
The ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ actor enjoyed the blend of humour and drama in the movie, which saw the return of previous Spideys Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
Benedict explained: “And what I think they did so blindingly well was just to mix humour with pathos. To mix surprise with elation and expectation and confound expectation. They managed to pull off a huge feat.
“Which apart from anything else, because throwing in Tobey and Andrew meant that you were celebrating like 20 years worth of filmmaking on top of all that.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Sherlock’ star explained that he was “excited” to challenge himself in the ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel, which sees him take on multiple versions of his superhero alter ego.
Benedict said: “You have to get a correlation so that you know you’re watching an iteration that basically through perhaps choices or circumstance and environment has had a different outcome.
“But it’s a nice sort of loop feeding into self-discovery and self-therapy for the character that we know from our universe, as to how he betters his choices or the situation.
“So it’s a fun thing to explore. It’s one of the paradoxes that a multiversal narrative will throw up, and I was excited by that challenge.”

Reflecting on his success, Eddie said: “It’s everything. My whole life I feel has been building up to this moment.
“I can’t believe I’m standing here as the ‘MasterChef’ champion. It’s just been the most stressful and the most enjoyable! I feel like I’ve just discovered who I am as cook. It’s the best feeling ever.”
Both judges heaped praise on Eddie for his efforts on the show, with John describing him as a “culinary powerhouse”.

Martin Freeman: It was sad and strange filming Black Panther 2 without Chadwick Boseman

OHMYGOSSIP — Martin Freeman admits there was a notable “gap” on set filming the ‘Black Panther’ sequel without the late Chadwick Boseman.
The 50-year-old actor – who plays Everett K. Ross in the Marvel blockbuster – admitted it felt “strange and sad” not having the Hollywood legend (T’Challa/Black Panther), who passed away at the age of 43 in August 2020 after a private cancer battle, around while working on ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’.
He told Collider: “It was strange, that side of it. On the one hand, you’re making the film that you’re there to make, and there are scores and scores of people on set, joined in this endeavor to make the film. But there’s also no question that, at the heart of it, there’s quite a gap now, and you felt it.”
Freeman has the utmost respect for director Ryan Coogler and says everyone has poured everything they’ve got into the film to ensure they do the late star justice.
He continued: “With full respect to Ryan Coogler and everybody else, who’s sweating and bleeding to get this thing done properly, it was fun. It was enjoyable. I was in and out of it quite quickly, I think.
“But I like playing Everett Ross. He’s a very fun character to play. He’s nicely simpatico for the story. He’s a good guy. But it was odd. Of course, it was odd with Chadwick [Boseman] not being there. There’s no way around that. I think everyone would find it pretty strange and sad, but at the same time, life things don’t just end. It’s not like, ‘Well, that’s that’s happened, so we just all have to go off and never do it again.’ But it was odd. When he passed, I thought, ‘Okay, well maybe there just won’t be another one.’
“But there are still other stories to tell within that world and other great characters. I think, and I hope that we’ve made a good film. I trust Ryan Coogler a lot.”
