Call the Midwife could be ‘close’ to ending

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Call The Midwife’ could be “close” to ending, according to Laura Main.
The 41-year-old actress – who plays Shelagh Turner in the BBC One period drama about birthing babies that started in 2012 – has not “heard anything else beyond” getting greenlit for its 13th series and remarked on how unusually “relaxed” it feels to hit such a big milestone.
During a panel with her co-stars Stephen McGann and Helen George – who plays her on-screen husband Dr Patrick Turner and midwife Trixie Franklin respectively – at the BFI Radio Times TV Festival, Laura told the audience: “We’ve known for a while that [series] 13’s commissioned, but we’re not hearing anything else beyond that. And I think sometimes you get to those big numbers and you think ’10!’, like there’s so much kind of pressure on it.
“So now it just feels a bit more relaxed, like it’s not a big deal but we know that maybe it’s getting really quite close to the end now.
“Who knows, but I just feel like I’m appreciating it all the more, and each other all the more. It’s such a special thing that we’ve all been part of for over a decade.”
However, producer Pippa Harris recently admitted she finds it “very difficult to imagine” not working on the series after more than a decade even though only two more series have been commissioned so far.
The producer said: “We have this series commissioned, which is the one we’re concentrating on, another one next year, and then who knows after that?
“It’s become sort of part of the warp and weft of our lives, so it’s very difficult to imagine not doing it.”
Creator Heidi Thomas agreed, adding: “The thing is, we have never got bored of it. I think if we got bored of it, it would become boring, and it would just come to a natural end then, wouldn’t it? But it doesn’t feel as though we have run the course yet. I think the ’60s are so interesting and so exciting.”
The 13th series of ‘Call the Midwife’ began filming in April 2022 and is set to air on BBC One in 2023.

Jerry Bruckheimer: Top Gun cast members vomited flying planes

OHMYGOSSIP — Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed that several of the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ cast threw up during the flying scenes.
The producer revealed that Tom Cruise and his co-star Monica Barbaro were the only ones who avoided vomiting during the flight sequence – even though Cruise had put the cast through their paces with a rigorous training regime.
Jerry told Total Film magazine: “When you see the expressions on their faces – they’re not acting.
“When you see the plane going straight up, they’re going straight up. When you see the plane upside down, they’re upside down. You can just imagine the physical exertion that every actor went through.
“A lot of them still threw up in the planes. Except for Monica – she’s the only one that could handle the g-forces better than the other actors. Of course, Tom too.”
Bruckheimer explained how worked closely with Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski on an extensive casting search as many potential stars were put off by the idea of taking to the skies.
The 78-year-old producer recalled: “A lot of actors said, ‘No, thank you. I’ll do it on a gimbal airplane.’ Because it’s dangerous obviously. So we got the best of the bunch.”
Cruise is reprising his role as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell over three decades on from the original movie and Bruckheimer is impressed by the star’s dedication to his craft and his desire to be involved in every aspect of the project.
Jerry said: “He’s learned over the last 35 years from the best directors, writers, and actors – and he’s a sponge and he takes it all in. We were the benefit on ‘Top Gun’ of all that knowledge.”
The movie will finally be released in cinemas after a number of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Bruckheimer can’t wait for audiences to see the picture on the big screen.
He said: “It’s really exciting that we’ve got to a place where theatres are now going to handle people and be in and enjoy this movie the way we want them to enjoy it.”

Law Abiding Citizen sequel in development

OHMYGOSSIP — A sequel to ‘Law Abiding Citizen’ is in the works.
Gerard Butler will be involved as a producer after starring in the original 2009 movie while producer Lucas Foster and screenwriter Kurt Wimmer are both returning.
The original movie starred Butler and Jamie Foxx and was directed by F. Gary Gray and followed assistant direct attorney Nick Rice (Foxx) and his pursuit of Clyde Sheldon (Butler) – a frustrated father who implements an elaborate and twisted plan to bring down the entire judicial system in Philadelphia when a plea bargain sets free the man who killed his wife and daughter.
Rivulet Films’ Rob Paris and Mike Witherill are producing with Foster and Wimmer. Tristan Tuckfield and Jillian Apfelbaum are executive producing for Village Roadshow Pictures.
Foster said: “I am delighted to partner with Rob, Mike and Village Roadshow Pictures, together with my frequent creative partner Kurt Wimmer, to revisit these great characters and this compelling topic which seems even more relevant today than when we made this original film. We’re going to blow your mind… again.”
Paris and Witherill added: “The demand for smart, star-driven action thrillers in the marketplace is palpable, and this is one of those rare unexploited franchise opportunities that was too good to pass up.”
Gerard is known for his action-packed projects and previously revealed that he was a “control freak” when he got the chance to produce ‘Greenland’.
The 52-year-old star said: “I’m a control freak!
“As an actor, when you’re coming up, you beg for roles, and you’re lucky to get one and then you suddenly find yourself in a position where movies are being made, because you’re involved.
“So if that’s the case, you say, ‘I want to produce it, I want to have some control, I want to help shape this film.’ Not the studio movies, like ‘Gods of Egypt’ or ‘Geostorm’. But all the other ones, in the independent world.
“I get a chance to develop, be involved with the script, choose the director. It’s more responsibility, but you’re more involved in the process. And I love that.”

Stephen Fry fears sack from BBC for being ‘old, fat and white’

OHMYGOSSIP — Stephen Fry thinks he will be sacked for by the BBC for being “old, fat and white.”
The 64-year-old star has worked for the broadcaster several times over the course of his career – famously hosting their flagship comedy panel show ‘QI’ for over a decade and starred in classic sketch show ‘A Bit of Fry Laurie’ on the BBC – but “wouldn’t be surprised” if he was shown the door in today’s world.
He said: “I’m not as old as the BBC but I’m getting there. You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if I was shown a red card. I can’t imagine myself stopping because I enjoy it too much. But I can imagine people saying: ‘do we really need this fat, old, white b*****? I’d be very upset if I was some great hero of comedy and drama who I sometimes overhear saying, “f****** BBC, once you get past… don’t they know what I’ve done for them?!”
The former ‘Alfresco’ star – who has been married to Elliott Spencer, 35, since 2015 – also admitted that although he is due to reach the age of retirement in August 2022, he has no plans to call time on his career altogether.
Speaking at the BFI and Radio Times Television Festival, he added: “I’m of an age that I could retire, so everything that’s coming to me is lucky. I’m happy to still be asked to do things. I’m going to Iceland and then a couple of weeks later I’m off to Amsterdam to do a documentary about these remarkable Dutch resistance fighters who were both openly gay in the 1930s when the Germans invaded the Netherlands, they had courage that’s just beyond belief.
Then I have a couple of things for Netflix coming up. There’s a Neil Gaiman one I’m looking forward to, it’s just a small part in the adaptation of ‘The Sandman’. I’m very fortunate and lucky. I don’t mean to sound like I’m ready to settle down but we’re living in a very interesting time, there’s a huge change going on.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Aljaž Škorjanec vowed to take Janette Manrara to Disney World every year.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professionals have been married since 2017 and Janette admitted that it would be a “dealbreaker” if her husband wasn’t such a fan of the Walt Disney company like herself, which led to Alijaz writing a promise to take her to Disney World into his wedding vows.
She said: “It would, [be a dealbreaker]. He put it in his wedding vows – in his vows he wrote, ‘I promise to take you to Disney once a year for the rest of our lives!’ That was the first vow he gave me in our wedding vows! So, he’s not fulfilled it last year, [due to COVID], so we have to go next year!”,
The 38-year-old dancer went on to reveal that the pair made the “crazy decision” to visit all six parks in three days – including Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom and waterparks Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon – at the Florida-based attraction when she took her him there for the first time on their honeymoon.
She said: “I’ll tell you a funny story. The first ever Disney trip with Alijaz, I wanted to cram everything in, and we only had three days that we could do it in. So, we went to all six parks in Orlando in three days. Crazy decision, but we did it. And I said ‘we don’t need a map, because I know the park inside out. I’ll tell you exactly the best way to go – you go anticlockwise you get all the rides done much quicker.”
Meanwhile, Janette, who has been to Walt Disney World in Florida more than 40 times in her life – went on to explain that despite being “stressed” at the start of the trip, Alijaz was eventually able to “feel the magic” on his first trip to the theme park.
Speaking on the Disney Podcast, ‘Journey to the Magic’, she told host Giovanna Fletcher: “He was stressed for most of the trip, but then we got to the end of the day, and it was raining really, really badly in Magic Kingdom, I said ‘but you’ve got to see the firework show at Magic Kingdom, it is just so so special’ and he said alright and then it was raining and it was lightning a little bit so they delayed and delayed and delayed.
“So we waited for the show for about an hour… and Alijaz was like ‘are you joking?’. And I was like ‘I promise you’re going to love it’. And then they happened and after they happened, he had a little tear in his eye. And he said to me, ‘I feel the Disney magic’ and it was such a moment, so the Disney magic is a real thing.”

Kit Connor wants to see the ‘strengthening’ of on-screen romance in Heartstopper

OHMYGOSSIP — Kit Connor wants to see the “strengthening” of Nick and Charlie’s romance in the second season of ‘Heartstopper’.
The 18-year-old actor plays Nick Nelson opposite Joe Locke’s Charlie Spring in the hit Netflix series longs for their relationship to “get stronger and blossom” in the follow-up series.
While appearing at a Q and A at the BFI Radio Times TV Festival on Sunday (22.05.22), Kit told the audience: “But in terms of, I suppose what I’d like to see for Nick, I think just strengthening Nick and Charlie’s relationship.
“In season one, we very much see the young love and the beginnings of their relationship,
“And I think that it would be lovely, you know – not just to act – also just to see, as well, their relationship just, sort of, get stronger and blossom.”
The star of the Netflix hit went on to label the rave reaction to the series – which is based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman- “pretty incredible” and “pretty emotional”.
Kit said: “I mean, I think that it’s pretty incredible, really, to be able to do a show like ‘Heartstopper’ at the age of 17. It’s more than seeing some of the reactions that it’s had to seeing some of the sorts of effects that it’s had on people’s lives has been, you know, more than touching, it’s been pretty emotional, to be honest.
“So, you know, seeing different things like people using scene to come out to their parents is just, like, unbelievable.”
Kit outlined his belief that it is “so important” to see LGBT people’s joy in media after the series was renewed for least two more seasons by the streaming giant.
He said: “There’s never enough queer people being genuinely happy on screen. It’s so important that we are doing that.”

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen ‘absolutely loves’ religion

OHMYGOSSIP — Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen “absolutely loves” religion.
The 57-year-old TV star took part in BBC Two series ‘Pilgrimage: The Road to the Scottish Isles’ back in April 2022 – which saw seven famous faces seek out the legacy of an Irish monk but joked that when he dies, his version of God would be drag queen RuPaul, who would send him straight to hell.
He said: “I absolutely love religion. think it needs to be about celebrating a god. I’ve always been very interested by the Celtic Church and also the people that created religion. When you look at Chartres Cathedral in France or St Columba’s Cathedral in Oban, I see the people that built it and worshipped in it. I don’t need to see the finger of God at the top of the pyramid. It’s a very personal philosophy. I could die, be welcomed through the Pearly Gates by God – who’s probably RuPaul – saying, ‘No, no, naughty boy! You got all of that wrong!’ Pazam! And I go straight to hell.”
The former ‘Changing Rooms’ star was joined on the three-part series by ‘Emmerdale’ actress Louisa Clein, comedienne Shazia Mirza, Paralympian Will Bayley, former ‘Countdown’ presenter Nick Hewer, and cricketer Monty Panesar as well as ex- ‘Gogglebox’ star Scarlett Moffatt – who he hailed as an “icon” of her generation but noted she was “very concerned” about losing followers by taking part in the programme.
Asked if he knew any of his co-stars, he told Metro Newspaper’s SixtySeconds column: “I met Nick Hewer in a hotel in Lake Como many years ago but I didn’t know any of the others. I was surprised by how deeply felt Scarlett Moffatt’s faith was but then by how fragile she was about talking about it. As an influencer and icon of the 2022s, she was very concerned she’d be losing followers by declaring her religion.”
‘Pilgrimage: The Road to the Scottish Isles’ is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Strictly Come Dancing drops COVID-19 measures for new series

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ bosses are dropping COVID-19 measures for the new series.
The bosses of the BBC One ballroom competition are reportedly intending to forgo safety measures introduced in 2020 – which included plastic barriers, and social bubbles – and will continue to pre-record some routines but bring back the studio audience for the live shows.
A source told The Mirror: “’Strictly’ bosses are planning to pre-record some of the pro dance routines again this summer. They are also hoping to have the studio audience back watching the live show each week.”
The move to get rid of the coronavirus measures comes after long-serving professional Anton Du Beke – who is permanently replacing Bruno Tonioli as a judge after stepping into his shoes for the 2021 series – explained he was “hoping” to get closer to his fellow panellists Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse.
He said: “I am hoping we can get a bit closer so we can have a bit more chat amongst ourselves.”
Of the move to become a mainstay judge, Anton remarked he was “delighted” and labelled it “brilliant news”.
He said: “Woohooo! This is brilliant news. Everyone knows how much I absolutely love the show and I’m utterly delighted to be continuing as a regular judge.
And I get to make the final again – now I know how [last year’s professional winner] Giovanni feels!”
The 2021 series was won by Giovanni Pierce and ‘EastEnders’ actress Rose Ayling-Ellis – who made history as the first deaf contestant to take part in the show -, with former ‘Bake Off’ star John Whaite and Johannes Radebe finished as runners up.
The 20th series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ is set to air on BBC One from autumn 2022.

Jeff Fowler: Absolutely nothing is planned for the Shadow the Hedgehog movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeff Fowler has “absolutely nothing” planned for the ‘Shadow the Hedgehog’ movie.
The 43-year-old filmmaker made his theatrical directorial debut with the live-action adaptation of video game ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ back in 2020 before fronting the 2022 sequel but revealed that he nothing is on the cards yet for the third movie in the series, which will focus on the original hero’s nemesis.
He said: “Absolutely nothing [is planned]. I’m afraid that’s as far as we’ve gotten, is that scene. We were just focused, obviously, on getting movie two done, and looking great. And then, fingers crossed, the rest will come together.”
However, Jeff did go on to explain that the appeal of the movie series – which was released almost 30 years after Sega first launched their flagship ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ series back in 1991 lies in the fact that the title character is such a “likeable” guy.
Jeff told ScreenRant: “He’s just such a likeable little guy. He’s so optimistic and fun and energetic, but he’s also very loyal to his friends. He believes in family. He’s got a huge heart. I mean, there’s so many likable traits that are only magnified by what Ben [Schwartz] brings to the character and his performance. There’s so much positivity. He’s just brimming with joy, and I feel like that makes for such a great character.”
Meanwhile, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’- which stars Jim Carrey as evil Dr. Robotnik and features the voice of Ben Schwartz as Sonic the Hedgehog – was launched in cinemas back in April 2022 and will receive a digital release on May 24th, followed by a DVD release in August.

Ewan McGregor: All of the dialogue for Star Wars: Attack of the Clones had to be redone

OHMYGOSSIP — Ewan McGregor has revealed that all of the dialogue for ‘Star Wars: Attack of the Clones’ had to be redone.
The 51-year-old actor starred as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the space fantasy movies and explained that new digital cameras used to film the second film in the prequels meant the sound was unusable and had to be re-dubbed post production.
He said: “They were cutting edge technology, but compared to what we … they had huge umbilical cords coming out the back of the cameras, and you couldn’t change the lenses. Or, they could change the lenses but it would take like, half an hour. So everything was just shot on a zoom lens. The umbilicals led to this big tent in the corner of the stage that literally hummed. It was so noisy. And when in post-production, they realised at the end that the noise they made was exactly the frequency of the human voice.”
The acclaimed actor – who reprises his role as the Jedi master in the new Disney miniseries ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ – went on to explain that automated dialogue replacement was necessary in post-production and that “none” of the original dialogue recorded on set is actually in the film.
He told SlashFilm: “So we had to ADR every single line of Episode 2. None of the original dialogue made it through because of that, because the cameras were like, so new. None of the bugs had been worked out yet. So compared to what we’re doing now, it’s like night and day!”

Danny Dyer to host game show on Netflix

The 44-year-old actor – who is set to leave his long-running role as Mick Carter in ‘EastEnders’ after almost a decade later this year – will front new general knowledge show ‘Cheat’ for the streaming giant, which will see contestants battle it out for the chance to win up to £50,000.
He is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s TVBiz column as saying: “Expect enormous wins, loads of slippery people cheating and banter!”
The former soap star – who is married to Joanne Mas and has Dani, 25, Sunnie, 25, and eight-year-old Artie with her – will be joined in hosting duties by comedian Ellie Taylor, with the show reportedly set to air in 2023.
Since quitting his role on the BBC soap opera, Danny has also signed up to front a set of travel shows for E4 with his eldest daughter and ‘Love Island’ winner Dani.
A TV insider said: “Nobody would have predicted this would have been his first move, even though he did say at the time he was keen to ‘try some other stuff.”
While details of his exit from his ‘EastEnders’ remain under wraps, a TV insider previously teased that there is still a lot of “explosive drama” to come for the character before he leaves Albert Square.
Back in January, a TV source said: “Danny will be leaving EastEnders when his contract comes to an end later this year. Danny has made Mick Carter an iconic character which we shall always be grateful for. However, we won’t be saying goodbye just yet as there’s still quite some time – and plenty of explosive drama for Mick – to come before he departs Walford.”

Joe Sugg: There was no spark with Dianne Buswell on Strictly

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Sugg “really missed” Dianne Buswell after their time on ‘Strictly Come Dancing.’
The 30-year-old YouTube star was runner up on the 2019 series of the BBC ballroom competition alongside professional Dianne Buswell,33, and although the pair ended up in a relationship after their time on the show, Joe admitted that there was no initial “spark” when they first met.
He said: “No, [there was no instant spark]. I’m a professional and so is Dianne and just wanted to learn to dance, and as soon as I had that first session with Dianne and the buzz of that first Saturday night, I didn’t want it to end. I didn’t want to miss out on the party. That’s the worst FOMO you can imagine. It wasn’t until afterwards that I thought ‘Oh, I really miss your company.'”
The West End star – who is the brother of fellow YouTuber sensation Zoella – also made a memorable appearance on a celebrity version of ‘The Great British Bake Off’ where he fainted after cutting his finger and joked that he has “gone down in meme history” as a result.
He told the Metro newspaper’s SixtySeconds column: “I’ve gone down in meme history! These British meme compilations often involve the guy from ‘Come Dine With Me’ putting the whole whisk in his mouth, then the guy with a Greggs plastic bag when he’s being interviewed, then me fainting and James Blunt going ‘Oh dear…’ They checked I was OK with it going out and I said they had to keep it in. It was a charity show and it was going to get more people watching.”

Ant and Dec land ‘£30 million golden handcuffs deal’ to stay with ITV

OHMYGOSSIP — Ant and Dec have reportedly landed a £30 million “golden handcuffs” deal to keep them on ITV.
The Geordie duo – made up on Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both 46, – have long been regulars on ITV, fronting shows including “I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!’ and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and the new deal would see them stay with the broadcaster for another three years.
A source told The Sun newspaper: “It would see them through to their 50th birthdays as two of the best paid stars on television. They both still seem to have the Midas touch when it comes to making programmes.
“Keeping them on board is a shrewd move for ITV, who view them as their two biggest stars – with no sign that’s going to change in the near future.”
The Sun adds that ITV bosses are aware there is the potential that big stars like Ant and Dec could be lured away by big money deals with streaming services, so they are keen to splash out to keep them.
A spokesman for ITV said: “We don’t comment on talent contracts.”
Ant and Dec’s latest venture for the channel came on Sunday night (15.05.22) as they helped kick off Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations with a TV event on ITV.
The pair previously helped front coverage of a gig celebrating the monarch’s 90th birthday back in 2016, and they revealed Her Majesty had specifically requested them.
Speaking on ‘The Graham Norton Show, the pair revealed that they were asked to host the event because the Queen had wanted them.
They said: “Apparently she’s asked for us to do it. We don’t really know how it happened but can only imagine she’s called Charles and asked if he knew anyone that could do it?
“And he’s said, ‘I’ve just met a couple of lads who’ve been following me around for a year.'”
The duo had previously worked with Prince Charles filming ITV’s ‘When Ant Dec Met the Prince: 40 Years of The Prince’s Trust’.
