OHMYGOSSIP — Katherine Ryan would’ve loved the late Sean Lock to have appeared on her new backstage show.
The stand-up star – who hosted Channel 4 comedy panel show ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ from 2005 to 2015 – passed away on August 16 last year aged 58 after a secret battle with lung cancer.
Katherine will be fronting stand-up comedy show ‘Backstage With Katherine Ryan’ on Amazon Prime in June this year, and the programme will feature comedians such as Frankie Boyle, Jimmy Carr, Sarah Millican, Jo Brand, Sara Pascoe and other stars while they perform and hang out backstage at London’s Roundhouse theatre.
The 58-year-old comedian has expressed how much she “loved” Sean’s act and would have wanted him to be on her show.
Speaking at the Amazon Prime Presents event, Katherine said: “Sean Lock’s one of the funniest people, on stage, off stage, I just loved his act.”
Comedian Seann Walsh added: “Some comics when they become famous or popular become celebrities and Sean never became a celebrity.
“Sean was always a comic, and I think that’s amazing and quite difficult to attain, very special comic, will never be anyone like him ever again.”
In the trailer of her upcoming show, Katherine is seen grilling Seann about his scandalous kiss with his former ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ pro partner Katya Jones, after the pair were snapped smooching outside a London pub in 2018.
She was married to fellow ‘Strictly’ pro Neil Jones at the time, while Seann was in a relationship with actress Rebecca Humphries.

OHMYGOSSIP — Jon Hamm thinks that the ‘Top Gun’ franchise appeals to audiences as it focuses on “regular people”.
The 51-year-old star plays Vice Admiral Beau ‘Cyclone’ Simpson in the sequel ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and believes that the franchise’s lack of “masks and capes” has made it a success.
Speaking at the UK Premiere of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ in London on Thursday (19.05.22), Jon said: “There are no bad guys in this franchise. The set up is seeing regular people, people without capes and masks or superpowers. Regular people do extraordinary things, that’s the appeal of this movie.
“I really think that’s why people are excited to see it. It’s a welcome back to the cinema for many people and this kind of movie needs to be seen in the cinema.”
Jon found it special working alongside Tom Cruise on the blockbuster and was amazed by his co-star’s approach to the project.
Asked about the differences in acting in a ‘Top Gun’ movie, the ‘Mad Men’ actor said: “Part of it is just being around Tom’s energy. Tom is a lover of film and he loves the whole process, developing it, learning about it, making them and the proof is in the pudding.
“It’s right up there on screen, he doesn’t leave anything in the can. It’s an amazing energy to be around and it’s infectious. It goes top to bottom from all the cast to all the crew.
“Everybody on the set is aware that they are making a Tom Cruise movie and they are very excited to come to work.”
Jon did not follow Tom’s rigorous training for the project – which saw him and other cast members take to the skies in fighter jets – but was happy to stay grounded.
He said: “I was happy to leave a lot of that to the younger, far more fitter generation than I. They had to put five months of work into it and that was time that I didn’t really have. So I felt vindicated in keeping my feet on the ground.”

Tom Cruise agonised about making Top Gun sequel

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise doubted that he would ever make ‘Top Gun: Maverick’.
The 59-year-old actor returns as Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell for the hotly-anticipated sequel to the 1986 movie ‘Top Gun’ and he took a long time deliberating whether to greenlight the blockbuster.
Speaking at the ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ UK Premiere in London on Thursday (19.05.22), Tom said: “It really didn’t come close until I said I’m ready to do it. I was constantly evolving the story and characters saying. It was really the philosophy of ‘How do I approach it? How do we approach it to create an environment where it had the potential to be something very special?'”
The movie has received rave reviews as it finally hits cinemas after numerous delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Tom was thrilled to be back at a major movie event.
The ‘Mission: Impossible’ star said: “Making movies, that’s the dream. I want people to feel that and to have whatever film I’m making be engaged.
“Here we are all back together having this experience and that’s why you want to see a movie in the theatre and on the big screen.”
Tom was quizzed on whether he would make a sequel to another one of his classic films but he only wants to focus on ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ for the time being.
He said: “Not tonight. Tonight is about ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and enjoying this moment and time period we are in. I just want to think about this right now.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Thompson was told she didn’t have “the right kind of body” for sex scenes.
The 63-year-old actress revealed she has rarely been asked to do racy scenes in movies because male executives did not think she had the right look for them.
Speaking to The Times newspaper, she said: “I’ve never really been offered sex scenes. As my mother said, I’ve basically played a series of ‘good’ women. I do ‘cerebral.’ And I have also never conformed to the shape or look of someone they might want to see naked.
“And by ‘they,’ I mean male executives. I’m too mouthy, not pretty enough, not the right kind of body. And, crikey, you are constantly told what kind of body you have.”
And Emma said constant bodyshaming has upset her over the years.
She explained: “In one interview I did, the male journalist wrote that I’d put on a lot of weight since I appeared in ‘Fortunes of War’, and that my legs were ‘now like tree trunks,’ and that I’d ‘let myself down’. I was 31 and, quite frankly, no longer starving myself. I don’t think anyone knows quite how thin most actresses are in real life. They look quite… unreal.”
Emma stars in new movie ‘Good Luck to You, Leo Grande’, in which she appears naked on screen for one of the first times ever.
Speaking previously about rehearsals, she revealed that she, co-star Daryl McCormack and director Sophie Hyde all stripped off to work on the racy scenes.
She told Entertainment Weekly: “Sophie, Daryl, and I rehearsed entirely nude. And talked about our bodies, talked about our relationship with our bodies, drew them, discussed the things that we find difficult about, things we like about them, described one another’s bodies.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise says landing the role of Navy pilot Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in ‘Top Gun’ was “life-changing”.
The 59-year-old Hollywood star had always dreamt of being either a pilot or an actor growing up, and when he could combine both careers in one film, it was a big thrill for him.
He told HELLO! magazine: “All I ever wanted to be was a pilot or an actor, so ‘Top Gun’
was a huge moment in so many respects, including my passion for aviation.
“It was life-changing for me.
“I got to actually fly in an F-14 jet which was a dream come true, and play a character I loved in Maverick.”
For the latest movie in the blockbuster series, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, Tom got to do more plane stunts than ever before.
He said: “The P-51 Mustang you see in the movie is actually my plane, so I got to pilot in those sequences.
“I also got to be in the jet fighter a lot more this time, which was thrilling.
“It was something I had been working up to.”
The sequel to the 1986 action-drama comes with an epic soundtrack by Oscar winner Lady Gaga in ‘Hold My Hand’.
On how the pop megastar came to record the song, Tom said: “I had seen one of Lady Gaga’s shows in Las Vegas and been amazed, so I called her to ask if she could help us.
“She sent the song over and it was perfect.
“It really is the heartbeat of the score.”

Keeley Hawes’ unsettling new drama

OHMYGOSSIP — Keeley Hawes’ ‘The Midwich Cuckoos’ has “elements of horror”.
The 46-year-old actress stars in Sky’s adaptation of the classic John Wyndham novel and writer/creator David Farr warned viewers will find the story unsettling.
According to Radio Times, he said: “The phrase ‘Community horror’ has been used. I’m not convinced it’s completely a horror.
“But it does have elements, certainly. And it certainly portrays a community under intense pressure. Will that community crack and destroy itself?”
The show – starring Hawes, Aisling Loftus and Max Beesley – takes place in a small town, where a mysterious blackout leaves everyone in the village unconscious, before they wake up to find all of the women are pregnant.
Keeley said: “Our version of ‘The Midwich Cuckoos’ is set in the picture-perfect town of Midwich, where nothing very much happens.
“Something very odd happens to the women in particular. They have all fallen pregnant… mysteriously.
“The experience that these characters have… some of them think, ‘actually all my dreams have come true, and this is what I’ve wanted all my life’.
“And it becomes apparent quite quickly that you should be careful what you wish for.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Bruno Tonioli says Anton Du Beke “deserves” to be on the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ panel.
After Bruno quit his role on the UK TV show due to his commitments to ‘Dancing With The Stars’ in the US, he was permanently replaced by professional dancer Anton, 55, and is thrilled for his pal.
According to The Sun, he said: “Anton has done a fantastic job. He deserves to be on that seat. Anton is brilliant. He will be brilliant.”
Bruno, 66, admitted that the opportunity of working with Disney+ for ‘DWTS’ was too big of an opportunity to pass up and he could no longer continue to travel between London and Los Angeles every week.
He said: “I’m done I just can’t do it anymore. Going back and forth was too much.
“‘Dancing with the Stars’ has moved onto Disney+ and will be streaming live. It’s a big deal, it’s very very exciting.
“And because of the travel situations I can’t guarantee that I am going to be there because anything can happen.
“Last year I changed my ticket every week – they need continuity. I absolutely support them, it’s my decision.”
Anton will serve on the judging panel alongside Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Head Judge Shirley Ballas.
He said: “Woohooo! This is BRILLIANT news. Everyone knows how much I absolutely love the show and I’m utterly delighted to be continuing as a regular judge. And I get to make the final again – now I know how Giovanni feels!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Simu Liu was crushed not getting a part in ‘Crazy Rich Asians’.
The 33-year-old Chinese actor auditioned four times for Jon M. Chu’s 2018 rom-com – which starred the likes of Constance Wu and Henry Golding – and claims he was told he didn’t have the ‘It factor”, which knocked his confidence.
Speaking on the ‘How To Fail With Elizabeth Day’ podcast, he said: “I just remember being devastated at the time.
“It was at a time that was very difficult for me, I was trying to figure out whether I could be the lead character or whether I could only be a supporting character for my entire career.”
He added: “We got, ‘Well Simu doesn’t have the X factor’ or the ‘It factor’. And that was just such a crushing blow for me because I, again, I felt like I already worked so hard and I came so far and I trained as an actor and taken countless hours of class was like, ‘what is the ‘It factor’?’ like it just felt like someone was telling me that I just wasn’t good enough.”
Simu Liu is set to play a version of Ken in the upcoming live-action ‘Barbie’ movie alongside the likes of Margot Robbie (Barbie) and Ryan Gosling (Ken), and the cast have had so much filming the flick that they can’t believe they are getting paid to do it.
He spilled: “It’s very pink. There’s a lot of pink, which is honestly just kind of a lot of fun to come to work every day, right? And there’s been multiple times on this production that we’ve kind of looked at each other, whether it’s like cast or crew or even Greta [Gerwig, director] and been like, ‘how are we getting paid to do this? This is insane’ which I think is always a good sign every day feels like we’re just going to play. And I can’t wait for people to see it.”

Great British Bake Off to relocate tent this year

OHMYGOSSIP — The ‘Great British Bake Off’ is set to relocate its iconic tent this year.
The tent had been based at Down Hall Hotel in Essex since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with guests and judges staying on-site with the crew but as restrictions have lifted, producers have decided it is time to move on.
A spokesperson told The Mirror newspaper: “We won’t be filming in a bubble this year, but protocols will be in place to keep everyone safe.”
And, an insider admitted that the lifting of the restrictions will be a welcome relief to those involved with the show.
One source said: “All the team, particularly Prue [Leith], found it really tough not being able to go home each week.
“They are delighted that this year it will go back to the way it was, when they filmed at weekends and could leave during the week.”
However, Prue admitted she had fun with her co-stars once they all settled in.
She said: “I remember saying, ‘Oh God, I’m going to go into a bubble with three men, none of them grown-up. But in fact it was lovely. One of the things that was a huge relief was how well Matt [Lucas] and I got on.”
Matt’s co-host Noel Fielding was joined by his DJ partner Lliana Bird last year, while Prue’s fellow judge Paul Hollywood was accompanied by his girlfriend Melissa Spalding.

Dannii Minogue to leave The Masked Singer

OHMYGOSSIP — Dannii Minogue will not be returning to ‘The Masked Singer’ Australia.
The 50-year-old singer confirmed that she is set to leave the show, after landing a new gig with the BBC.
She told The Herald Sun newspaper: “My fashion commitments in the UK conflict with scheduling of ‘The Masked Singer’ filming this year, so unfortunately I won’t be returning.
“I am sure with borders opening there will be loads of great surprises for everyone. I’ve loved every minute working on TMS and will miss my Inspector Minogue role.”
Dannii is the second judge to depart, after comedian Urzila Carlson revealed she will not be returning due to her touring commitments.
Meanwhile, Dannii is set to present ‘I Kissed A Boy’, a gay dating show for the BBC, in her return to UK television.
She said: “There are millions of people in the UK looking for love. And I believe love is for everyone. So I am so thrilled for a gay dating show to be entering the sea of other dating shows that have existed on TV for years.
“I have been a staunch ally of the LGBTQ+ community for as long as I can remember. My close friends know that my dream job title would be Cupid.
“So this gives me that flutter-of-love feeling inside too, just to be a part of it. Let’s hope there is love, sealed with a kiss!”

Jeremy Renner to star in movie about opioid crisis

OHMYGOSSIP — Jeremy Renner will star in a new movie about the opioid epidemic.
The 51-year-old actor will portray David Armstrong, the Pulitzer-prize winning investigative journalist who helped expose the Sackler family and Purdue Pharma’s links to the crisis, according to Deadline.
Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly will write and direct the untitled project, which is being produced by Julie Yorn, Patrick Walmsley and David C. Glasser.
In a series of articles, Armstrong revealed how the Sackler family had aggressively marketed Purdue’s painkiller OxyContin, which contributed to the opioid epidemic that killed more than 450,000 Americans over the past 20 years.
The drama is being sold in the Cannes Market through Expanded Media/LBI Entertainment and 101 Studios.
David Hutkin, Ron Burkle and Bob Yari will executive produce for 101 Studios.
Gaudet and Pullapilly told Deadline: “The real David Armstrong is a man of utmost integrity. We could not be more thrilled to have Jeremy on board to infuse that same integrity into his portrayal of David. We’re excited to work with such a great team to bring this story to a global audience.”
Armstrong said he is “gratified that a movie audience will learn of the story behind this crisis, which has ruined so many lives. I am impressed with the vision Gita and Aron have for making this film and thrilled that an actor of Jeremy’s talent and ability will be a major part of telling this story.”
Glasser added: “I can’t think of anyone better than Jeremy Renner to bring David Armstrong’s vital story to audiences. We have been lucky enough to see Jeremy’s tremendous talent first-hand working together on ‘Mayor of Kingstown’. We can’t wait to see him tackle a project that we know will resonate with audiences.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Danniella Westbrook has been rushed to hospital with Septicemia.
The 48-year-old actress – who starred as Sam Mitchell in ‘EastEnders’ – recently suffered a “sudden health shock” and was rushed into hospital, where she was treated for the bloodstream infection.
A rep for the TV star told The Sun newspaper: “Danniella suffered a sudden health shock.
“Thankfully the issue was caught early and dealt with by medical professionals. Danniella has been released from hospital and is home recovering with the support of close family.
“We are grateful that Danniella hasn’t suffered from any major risks.
“Danniella appreciates everyone’s immediate support and we will be sure to issue updates on her ongoing recovery accordingly.”
The actress required urgent treatment in order to stop the spread of any infection.
Although Septicemia is potentially life-threatening, Danniella has now returned home and is being cared for by her loved ones.
A source shared: “The situation could have been severe and life threatening. Thankfully it was caught early and all necessary precautions were taken.”
Meanwhile, Danniella has battled a cocaine addiction for decades, and last year, the actress admitted to being “tired” of her personal troubles.
The soap star – who has sought treatment for her addiction – shared: “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired and feeling shame and a fraud when people tell me I’m doing well. I’ve done better this time round but I’m done – I’m so bloody bored of it all.
“So today I’m saying. Hello I’m Danniella and I’m a recovering drug addict.
“I haven’t had a rock bottom this time, I’m just all over the whole vicious circle that is crippling disease that stops me and from being the best me I can be and from reaching my full potential.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jess Wright has given birth to a baby boy.
The 36-year-old TV star and her husband William Lee-Kemp welcomed their first child on May 17, and Jess has now taken to social media to announce the news to her followers.
Alongside a snap of Jess and William holding hands with their newborn baby, she wrote on Instagram: “We will hold your hand forever.”
A number of Jess’ showbiz pals have already taken to social media to congratulate the former ‘Only Way Is Essex’ star on the arrival of her first child.
Carol Wright, Jess’ mum, wrote online: “My heart is complete, can not tell you how proud I am of you both, it was wonderful to experience the journey love you my baby girl.
“You did amazing, he is beyond beautiful. Happiest grandparents ever now to have two beautiful bubbas to love and cherish forever (sic)”
Natalya Wright, Jess’ sister, wrote: “Our precious boy. The most special week ever. Love you all so much.”
Meanwhile, Sam Faiers also sent her congratulations to Jess.
The 31-year-old star – who has Paul, six, and Rosie, four, with Paul Knightley – urged Jess to “enjoy every single moment” of the experience.

Dragons’ Den star Steven Bartlett quizzed by airport security

OHMYGOSSIP — Steven Bartlett was quizzed by airport security.
The 29-year-old entrepreneur – who is known to TV audiences for his role as an investor on the BBC One show ‘Dragons’ Den’ – revealed that he was detained at Heathrow airport a total of four times and was repeatedly “asked questions .”
He said: “I landed into Heathrow, they pulled me aside and I’m in the room for two hours. They know who I am – ‘You’re from Dragons’ Den’. I then fly back in a few days later. They pull me back in for two hours. I then fly back into Heathrow – it happened three times in a row… into the same room for two hours, looking at me… asking questions.”
The Social Chain founder – who is thought to have a net worth of £300 million – went on to explain that he remembered honing in on ’emotional control’ during the incidents but was “really scared” at the same time.
Speaking on the ‘Tony Bellew Is Angry’ podcast, he added: ““I remember feeling, ‘It’s good I have emotional control now’. It looked like anger, but I think I was really scared,”
In response to the claims, a spokesperson from the Home Office claimed that their “number one priority” is security and refused to comment on an individual case.
Home Office spokesperson said: “Border Force’s number one priority is to maintain a secure border, and we will not compromise on security. We work closely with all of our airports to ensure passengers have the smoothest possible journey. We do not routinely comment on individual cases.”

‘I’m living the dream’: Tom Cruise insists he never has a day off

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Cruise says he doesn’t have days off because he’s “living his dream” when he’s working.
Growing up, young Tom dreamt of becoming either a pilot or an actor and in his latest film, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 action drama, the Hollywood star gets to do both as Navy pilot Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell.
Asked what he likes to do on his days off, Tom told Bella magazine: “This is a day off for me, because I am not shooting!
“I’m just chillin’ now. I don’t have days off.
“Look, I’m fortunate, I’m lucky.
“I’ve spent my life on movie sets and travelling the world, which is what I always wanted to do.
“So this is not work – I’m living the dream.”
Hence why the 59-year-old star was “very touched” when he was made an Honorary Naval Aviator by the Navy, along with the film’s producer Jerry Bruckheimer in 2020.
He said: “I want to thank them.
“I was honoured with becoming the 38th Honorary Navy Aviator.
“They gave me that commission.
“And also, (the Navy instructor programme) TOPGUN School gave me a plaque that only the TOPGUN graduates get, certain pilots receive.
“For me, it’s incredible as I grew up wanting to make movies and be an aviator.
“I remember at four years old I would sit there and look at my wall with
P-51 and Spitfire on it.”
In a full-circle moment, Tom got to fly his very own P-51 Mustang in the latest flick.

Tracy Beaker writer Jacqueline Wilson refuses to write about sex

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Jacqueline Wilson refuses to write about sex.
The 76-year-old author has written more than one hundred books for children and is known for creating the ‘Tracy Beaker’ series – which has gone on to spawn several long-running TV series initially staring Dani Harmer – joked that as a writer for a young audience she “doesn’t even know” what sex is and compared herself to a ‘Blue Peter’ presenter.
She said: “I am a children’s writer: we are like Blue Peter presenters, we don’t even know what sex is!”
The award-winning writer – who back in 2020 came out as a lesbian and revealed that she had been living with long term partner Trish after divorcing her husband William back in 2004 – also explained that she has felt “so lucky” throughout the last 20 years despite worrying that it would be all “downhill” after a “so-so marriage,”
She told The Guardian newspaper: “Don’t write yourself off. On my 50th birthday I thought, I’ve been lucky enough to have achieved most of what I wanted and I have a so-so marriage, so it will be downhill all the way. But amazing things have happened since; things I’d never even dreamed about. But [I was happiest] a few years ago in Vermont, when I eloped with Trish to have a civil partnership ceremony. Love feels like realising that if they were drowning, you’d try to save them.”
The former Children’s Laureate – who is set to publish ‘The Magic Faraway Tree: A New Adventure inspired by fellow literary legend Enid Blyton – was then asked who her celebrity crush was and named former ‘Pointless’ star Richard Osman.
