OHMYGOSSIP — Ricky Gervais agreed not to conclude ‘After Life’ with a suicide after he was warned by therapists it would upset vulnerable viewers.
The comic was paid millions by Netflix to produce the final series of his black comedy, in which he plays depressed, borderline alcoholic local journalist Tony Johnson, who spent all three series saying he was on the verge of killing himself after losing his wife.
Ricky revealed experts warned him if Tony – who was seen taking heroin on the show in one of his most grief-stricken moments – was seen going through with his plan it would leave sensitive watchers distraught.
The 60-year-old told the Daily Star Sunday: “While I was writing the show, therapists came up to me to talk about it.
“One counsellor said to me, ‘Please don’t let Tony commit suicide’. They explained they were using the show as part of grief counselling, so they really didn’t want him to kill himself at the end of the series. I took that on board.
“And it decided it for me. That’s the reason I didn’t write that as the ending.”
Gervais, who lives in London with his long-term partner Jane Fallon, 61, wrote a happy climax to the show, which ran for three series.
But in the final scene his character is seen leaving a fair with his dog before they fade away.
Gervais denied it meant he had taken his life, but alluded to his future death.
He added: “In the show, Tony went home and carried on and eventually he won’t be around anymore. My ending was saying that everyone dies, but not today. And when they do, life goes on.
“Eventually all there are is memories.”
Gervais also said he has been amazed by the reaction to ‘After Life’ from fans who have said it comforted them in times of grief and throughout lockdown.
He said about the show, which started in 2019: “So many people come up to me and say they identify with it and say they were like that when they lost their partner or their mum or their brother.
“I think the important thing about After Life is it deals with grief more openly.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Val Kilmer’s Madmartigan character is making a comeback in Disney+ show ‘Willow’.
Executive producer of the TV version of the 1988 fantasy movie, Jonathan Kasdan, told Yahoo Entertainment that Kilmer, 62, will also be featured in the upcoming series.
He said about the cancer survivor actor’s warrior character: “Val’s a huge part of this, and the first conversation I had, when Warwick and I got the greenlight to do this, was with Val.
“We wanted his character to be a part of the story. We wanted him to be in the show.”
The ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ added Kilmer was blocked from joining the cast during production during lockdown but is now ensuring “Madmartigan lives on.”.
The original film, directed by Ron Howard and produced by George Lucas, starred Warwick Davis as dwarf Willow Ufgood.
He was on a mission to shield infant Elora Danan so she could fulfill a prophecy and end the rule of the evil Queen Bavmorda.
Willow crosses paths with disgraced knight Madmartigan who joins the quest.
Warwick told Yahoo Entertainment: “Val’s spirit is very much with the series.
“we have been in touch since we made the movie, and we’re good friends and he’s a terrific guy. I still attribute me getting through the film to Val.
“He kept my spirits up when conditions were really treacherous and difficult. I was cold, wet, tired. He kept me laughing, kept the whole thing fun.”
Kilmer’s ex-wife Joanne Whalley, who played his love interest Princess Sorsha in the original movie, is also reprising her role in the Disney+ TV series.
The couple fell in love while filming Willow, were married from 1988 until 1996, and share daughter Mercedes, 30, and son Jack, 26.
‘Willow’ the series, starting November 30, takes place 20 years after the original movie and also stars Erin Kellyman, Ellie Bamber, Tony Revolori, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, Talisa Garcia, Dempsey Bryk and Amar Chadha-Patel.
Kilmer’s comeback follows his diagnosis with throat cancer in 2015, which led to the ‘Top Gun’ actor having a tracheostomy in 2016 that permanently damaged his vocal cords – though he is now cancer-free.
He also recently reprised his 1986 role as Iceman in the 2022 sequel ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ alongside Tom Cruise.

OHMYGOSSIP — Noel Clarke denied being a sexual predator as he said he nearly killed himself after he was accused of harassment and bullying by up to 20 women.
The ‘Doctor Who’ star, 46, said he planned to take his life with a folding hunting knife bought as a souvenir in Arizona two decades ago.
He admitted: “I needed to do something unsurvivable. I was reaching for a book and the knife fell out of my pocket. My one-year-old said, ‘Daddy, why have you got that?’
“I said, ‘It’s just to pick the dirt out of my nails…’ and he said, ‘Oh, OK,’ and somehow the ordinariness of that snapped me out of it.
“Up to that point, I had been waiting for the right moment to kill myself. I was out of here. Done. I didn’t care about anything. My mind was destroyed.”
Clarke also admitted in an interview with the Mail on Sunday that even though he may have been “over-tactile” with women, he never groped or tried to kiss a woman who “didn’t want to be kissed”.
Police dropped an investigation into the Bafta winner after they ruled the testimonies against Clarke would not meet a “threshold for a criminal investigation”.
Clarke, married to make-up artist Iris Da Silva, added: “I’m not a predator. I have crossed the road to avoid walking behind women since I was 15.
“I’ve been a regular dude. For sure, I flirt. Have I ever made a saucy comment? One hundred per cent. But not to the extent that it warranted the destruction of my life.”
Co-founder of Reclaim These Streets, Anna Birley slammed the decision to drop the investigation into the accusations.
She said: “Reporting experiences of sexual assault or abuse is difficult, and so it must be hugely upsetting for women who have been so brave and spoken out to hear that the police don’t believe their testimonies are enough.
“Our criminal justice system fails women time and again. Women deserve to be listened to and believed.”
One accuser claimed Clarke said he planned to “f*** her and fire her”.
They added he secretly filmed a naked audition.
Bafta knew about the claims before handing him an Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award and later retracted the award.
Sky also halted filming of his crime drama ‘Bulletproof’, with ITV pulling the final episode of the drama ‘Viewpoint’.

OHMYGOSSIP — Patricia Brake has died at the age of 79.
The actress – who was best known to TV audiences for her role as Ingrid Fletcher in classic BBC sitcom ‘Porridge’ – passed away on Saturday (28.05.22) after suffering a “long battle with cancer”, according to her agents.
Scott Marshall Partners wrote on Twitter: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our client and well-loved stage and TV actress, Patricia Brake, at the age of 79, after a very long battle with cancer.”
Patricia was initially married to late actor Robert McBain during the 1960s and had children Hannah, Jon and Angus with him but was later married to Michael Kennedy from 1997 until her death.
Her son Jon wrote on Twitter: “I can confirm that my mother, the actress Patricia Brake, died earlier today at the age of 79 after a long battle with cancer.”
In ‘Porridge’, Patricia played the fiery daughter of prison inmate Norman Stanley Fletcher, – who was played by Ronnie Barker – throughout the original run of the show from 1974 until 1977 and returned to the role for its short-lived spinoff series ‘Going Straight’ the following year.
As a teenager, Patricia joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford before making her TV debut in 1960 on ‘Emergency Ward 10’ and continued to work up until 2020, with roles in ill-fated soap opera ‘Eldorado’ as well as ‘EastEnders’ and played Viv Baldwin on ‘Coronation Street’ from 2005 until 2006.
Her final appearance on television was as a rape victim in an episode of ITV drama ‘Manhunt.’

The ‘Made in Chelsea’ star tied the knot with the 27-year-old midfielder surrounded by family and friends, including older sister Lucy Watson, 31, and her co-stars on the E4 reality show, Sophie Habboo and Jaime Laing, at St Michael and All Angels Church in Pirbright, Surrey, on Saturday (28.05.22).
The 28-year-old reality star shared several professional photographs from her special day, and the pair are jetting off on their honeymoon today (30.05.22), with the blonde beauty posting a snap of her wheeling her suitcase in a denim jacket emblazoned with the words “just married” on the back.
The bride wowed in a strapless gown and a trailing veil, while Cameron opted for a more casual look of a linen suit in a neutral shade with plimsole shoes.
The bridesmaids matched the bride in white and wore lavender headpieces to match their bouquets.
The wedding saw guests travel in a tractor to the wedding meal inside a giant tipi, with the newlyweds sitting in wooden chairs with carved “bride and groom” signs on the back.
The festival-themed wedding also had a BBQ, Aperol Spritz bar, pick n mix, as well as a wall of Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
In the evening, a saxophonist took to the dancefloor to serenade the couple.
Tiffany’s sister took to Instagram to welcome Cameron into the family.
Alongside snaps from the special day, Lucy wrote: “Yesterday my little sister got married. The most beautiful day, so happy to welcome you to our family C.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Great British Bake Off’ star Paul Hollywood broke down in tears after being viciously trolled over the show’s move from the BBC to Channel 4.
The baker was the only original member of the presenting team to stay with the show when it switched channels back in 2016 – and Paul admits the fierce backlash from fans made him cry.
He told The Times: “Oh, I was called every name under the sun. It was so horrendous, I actually cried. No one wants to be painted as the pantomime villain, especially when I was just sticking with a job I loved. But you can’t kick against it.”
The telly star went on to explain fellow reality TV regular David Walliams helped comfort him during the dark time, adding: “David Walliams actually took me aside and said, ‘Mate, it’s just a game. Enjoy it.’
“You’re clickbait, basically. But it hurt me. After a while, though, I got tough. I just thought, ‘OK, I’ll be your bad guy’.”
The show moved to Channel 4 in a £75million deal in 2016 with Paul’s fellow judge Mary Berry quitting the series along with longtime presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins.
Paul remained the only original face in the line-up, being joined by Prue Leith as a judge with Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding coming in as presenters.
Former ‘Little Britain’ star Matt Lucas joined in 2020 after Sandi exited the show.
Paul previously opened up about the toxic response to the show’s channel swap – insisting he was treated very differently to co-star Mary.
He told the Daily Mail: “Mary will never be a villain. I will always be a villain …
“It was like losing part of the family, as me, Mel, Sue and Mary were all tight. But I didn’t have the same connection to the BBC as they did, maybe because I was northern and they didn’t know where to place me.
“Even so, I was nervous, but Channel 4 were adamant about getting the right team, and they did – I remember Prue when she walked in, she was like a rainbow.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Danny Dyer “might be killed off” in ‘EastEnders.’
The 44-year-old actor has starred as Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter on the BBC One soap opera for almost a decade but quit the show back in 2021 and claimed that whatever happens he wants his exit to be “huge” and “epic.”
He said: “There’s been a discussion about what we’re gonna do. I might be killed off, I might not, I just want to go out in a huge, epic way. I don’t want to be in the back of a cab.”
The ‘Mean Machine’ star – who also hosts podcast ‘Sorted with the Dyers’ with eldest daughter and ‘Love Island’ winner Dani, 25, – went on to explain that he wants to stage an exit for Mick that will “get people talking” and joked that he might steal a prop from the Queen Vic set as a keepsake.
He told The Sun: “I don’t want a heart attack because of high cholesterol. I want to go out and I want to get people talking about it. So, yeah, it’s gonna be huge. I might nick a stool out of the Vic. I have already got a stool up in my dressing room. I’ll get the cast to sign it and I’ll take it. It’s such an iconic job and I’ve loved every second of it. It’s been amazing. It’s been nearly ten years though, you know?”
Danny – who is married to Joanne Mas and has also has Sunnie, 25, and eight-year-old Artie with her – added that while he will be “very sad” to leave the show, it is time to “move on” and is hoping for a Christmastime exist.
He said: “It’s time to move on now. I’ll be very sad. I will be. It’s an emotional thing, you become very attached. But it’s time to roll the dice.
Maybe it’ll come out at Christmas. When they get it right there ain’t no better show on the television.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Simon Cowell thinks Ant and Dec should get a lifetime deal from ITV.
The 62-year-old music mogul has worked with the Geordie duo,both 46, for over 20 years on shows such as ‘Pop Idol’ and ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and named the BAFTA-award winning double act – who also present ‘I’m a Celebrity’ and ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’ for ITV – as “the best.”
He said: “I’d sign them up for ever. Ant and Dec are the best. There’s no question. There’s nobody like them.”
Simon went on to explain that he has known the two telly stars for two decades now and claimed that their “brilliance ” when it comes to understanding how to present ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ is in the fact that they “love” the acts and “relate” to the audience.
He told The Daily Mirror newspaper: “I’ve known them now for over 20 years. They really are fun, but their brilliance is understanding the audience of the show. They really relate to the audience and they haven’t changed at all. They’re very nice people.And, importantly, they love the acts. If I was running ITV, I wouldn’t think twice about it.”
Simon – who is due to be live on air on Monday (30.05.22) in his judging seat on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ alongside David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden as the show kicks off its semi-final stages in its latest bid to find an act to perform at the ‘Royal Variety Show’ – also created and judged on mega singing competition ‘The X Factor’, which last aired in 2018 and officially brought to an end in 2021 after 15 series, with Simon admitting that he “misses” finding a new music star in the run up to Christmas every year.
He added: “I do miss it. I’d like them to bring it back.”
‘Britain’s Got Talent’ will air each week night on ITV at 8pm, with a grand final set to take place on Sunday (05.06.22).

OHMYGOSSIP — Brianne Delcourt found having children “torturous.”
The 41-year-old skater – who is known to TV audiences for her role as a professional on ITV competition show ‘Dancing on Ice’ -is already mother to Olivia, fifteen months, and welcomed second daughter Keavy Anne with partner Kevin Kilbane back in April 2022 via a C-section but would rather have given birth naturally.
She said: “I keep saying this to Kevin, if I could have had the babies [naturally] the other way, I would have.Either way it’s torturous having children, but going into this one because I’d only just had a C-section with Olivia, it was still fresh in my mind. And the C-section with Olivia was horrendous. The recovery time was… I mean I still couldn’t turn on my side after six to eight weeks.”
However, Brianne – who is also mother to five-year-old Gracie from a previous relationship – added that for the second C-section birth , the recovery has been “a lot easier” this time round because of “great” healthcare.
She told OK! Magazine: “I had a great obstetrician and she said there must have been some complications with that one, but she promised she’d make it a little bit easier. And the recovery has been a lot easier this time. She’s given me lots of drugs, which is fantastic. That’s probably helped! And also, mentally, when you know you have another baby, you have no choice, you’ve just got to get up and go. Olivia has been running since she was about 10 months old so you just don’t have the time to sit down and feel sorry for yourself.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Vick Hope is “not in any rush” to return to reality TV.
The 32-year-old radio host enjoyed a stint on BBC ballroom show ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ back in 2018 – in which she was eliminated fourth on the series eventually won by Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton – and admitted that although she is often asked about taking part on other reality shows, she would rather concentrate on broadcasting for the time being.
She said: “The reason I did ‘Strictly’ is because I love dancing, simple as. I am always a fan of anything where you learn something. Everyone ass about the jungle or the castle for ‘I’m a Celeb’. I’d never say never but I”m not in any rush to be filmed 24 hours a day. When it comes to those kind of reality shows, I’m parking them for a bit because I’m a broadcaster and I want to hone my craft.”
The former ‘Capital Breakfast’ host – who currently fronts ‘Going Home with Vick and Jordan’ with fellow star Jordan North – also revealed that she was inspired to work in television after growing up without one and was encouraged to read as a child.
She told The Metro newspaper’s Guilty Pleasures column: “My mum and dad just didn’t have a TV in our house, so we spent a lot of time reading. It was such a mystical, magical box to me and that’s why I wanted to work in it.”
It comes just days after the news that Vick is now engaged to record producer Calvin Harris after just five months of dating.

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Lenny Henry has branded the BBC to move their CBBC channel online as a “mistake.”
The broadcaster recently announced its plans to make its children’s broadcaster – famed for programming such as ‘Blue Peter’ and the ‘Tracy Beaker’ series as well as its multiple spin-offs – an online only service from 2025 and comedian Lenny, 63, questioned where children would “see themselves” in the future as a result.
He said: “It is a mistake to shove CBBC to one side and have this thing that is online. Where is kids’ drama going to be, where are kids going to see themselves? If you can’t see it, you can’t be it. If kids don’t get the opportunity to see themselves on telly what are they going to be able to relate to, where are they going to get that from?”
The former ‘Tiswas’ host went on to explain that in order for children to relate to programming, it is up to broadcasters to produce shows that are “appropriate” for their age.
Speaking at the Hays festival, he added: “We need to make work that kids can be confident is going to be appropriate for their age, and they can see themselves.”
It comes just weeks after BBC Chief Executive Tim Davie announced the plans to shift the channel online, but reassured viewers that the move will not stop them from offering a “diverse” range of programming.
In a statement, he said: “CBBC will continue to make diverse programmes and the TV channel will remain for at least three years. As the seven to 12 audience rapidly moves away from TV and towards digital, we will transition CBBC to iPlayer.”
