OHMYGOSSIP — Christopher Landon is writing and directing an ‘Arachnophobia’ remake.
The 47-year-old filmmaker – who has directed horror hits such as ‘Happy Death Day’ – is attached to helm a remake of the 1990 flick that starred Jeff Daniels and John Goodman.
James Wan and Michael Clear are producing the movie for Amblin Partners while original director Frank Marshall is involved in the new film as an executive producer.
The horror comedy centred on a small town in the United States that is terrorised by a colony of deadly South American spiders that are accidentally brought into the country.
Christopher took to Twitter after the news was confirmed and revealed that he is terrified of spiders.
He tweeted: “I’m either the most qualified or the absolute worst person for this job since I am DEATHLY AFRAID OF SPIDERS. So excited to work with Amblin and James Wan (sic)”
Landon previously directed the slasher movie ‘Freaky’ – which stars Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton and focuses on a serial killer who switches bodies with a teenage girl – but suggested that sequel was unlikely to be made as he doesn’t have an idea for another movie.
He said: “In terms of a sequel to ‘Freaky’, you know, I don’t think it’s ever gonna happen, because I honestly don’t know if the studio has an appetite for a sequel. I think they’re quite comfortable with it being a standalone movie, and to be honest, I am too, because we didn’t really have an idea for a sequel.”
Christopher also suggested that his priority is making a third film in the Jessica Rothe led franchise ‘Happy Death Day’.
He explained: “I really, first and foremost, had wanted to make a third movie in the ‘Happy Death Day’ franchise just because I’ve wrote an idea. I didn’t write the whole script, I’m not that crazy. But I had outlined a third movie because I really knew what I wanted it to be and it was sort of the conclusion to it.
“It was a trilogy for me, so it’s a bummer that I haven’t had the opportunity yet to make that movie and I know Jessica Rothe really wants to do it.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennifer Connelly was relieved her ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ character was “all about the water”.
The 51-year-old actress portrays Penny Benjamin in the long-awaited sequel and because she’s afraid of flying, she was grateful that she didn’t have a lot of scenes up in the sky.
She told Australia’s Who magazine: “It’s something I have dealt with to some degree, but I have to admit I was initially glad to know my character was all about the water and not some hot-shot pilot.”
However, Jennifer did have to face her fears in one particularly “intense” scene with Tom Cruise, who plays her love interest Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell.
She added: “Of course, once we were on set, I found out there was going to be a moment with me and Tom in a plane together.
“I didn’t want to mention my fear of flying, which is probably how I ended up to aerobatics in a P-51 Mustang piloted by Tom Cruise. That was pretty intense!
“Tom asked if I’d ever done any aerobatic flying. I said, ‘No… am I going to?’ He said, ‘We’re just going to do some easy rolls’ and ignited the engine.
“Flames burst out, which evidently is normal, but I certainly wasn’t expecting that.”
And Jennifer shared another particularly memorable scene with the action star, who famously loves to do his own stunts.
She said: “Riding on the back of a motorcycle with Tom was quite something and the sailing scenes we shot around San Francisco are something I will never forget.”
The movie marked the first time Jennifer has worked with Tom and she recently described her co-star as “exceptional”.
She said: “I had never even met Tom Cruise before. He’s so exceptional. Spending time with him, you understand how someone has been such a movie star for so many years.
“It was clear to me what the franchise means to him, (producer) Jerry Bruckheimer and the audiences who love the film so much.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Evans felt like a “kid in a candy store” during the making of ‘Lightyear’.
The 40-year-old actor voices Buzz Lightyear in the upcoming ‘Toy Story’ spin-off and explained that he couldn’t believe he got the chance to lead the cast of a Pixar film as such an iconic character.
In a behind-the-scenes feature with PEOPLE, Chris said: “The movie ‘Toy Story’ was such an impactful film. It’s so iconic and the characters had such variety. They just offer something that’s so relatable.
“This film is the origin story of Buzz Lightyear. It’s the story that made Andy and his friends want to go buy a Buzz Lightyear toy.”
The ‘Captain America’ star added: “I’m a massive Pixar fan. I was a kid in a candy store. It’s unlike any Pixar movie to date.”
The movie is set to be released later this month with Chris leading a cast that includes Keke Palmer and Taika Waititi and the former says the new flick “raises the bar” when compared to ‘Toy Story’.
The 28-year-old actress said: “I’ve been a fan of Buzz since the first time that I saw ‘Toy Story’. It was one of my favourite movies.
“‘Lightyear’ raises the bar. It’s an intergalactic experience.”
Chris was first announced as the voice of Buzz Lightyear back in 2020 and the actor recalled his delight about being offered the chance to take over from Tim Allen as the voice of the toy.
He wrote on Instagram at the time: “My team could barely contain their excitement when they told me that Pixar had a pitch for me. All they said was ‘Buzz Lightyear.’ I didn’t know what that meant, since Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear, and no one could ever touch his performance. I needed to know how this character was different and why this story was worth telling.
“I can say 2 things with absolute confidence: 1. I didn’t stop smiling through the ENTIRE pitch. Ear to ear. 2. Everyone can rest easy. And get very excited. Trust me when I say that they REALLY know what they’re doing over there. This one is gonna special, and it doesn’t step on a single thing. I can’t even put my excitement into words. I smile every time I think about it (sic).”

OHMYGOSSIP — George Miller tried to cast Tilda Swinton in ‘Furiosa’.
The 77-year-old filmmaker worked with the actress on his latest movie ‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’ and was desperate to find her a part in his prequel to ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, although he had no joy in the end.
George told The Hollywood Reporter: “She really is something. She’s an artist and one of the wisest people I’ve ever known. It was the first thing I thought about.
“In ‘Suspiria’, she played three roles, one of which is an old man, so I thought, well, she could play one of the men (in ‘Furiosa’). But unfortunately, there was no role that she would fit. If you force a character into a film, it’s usually the first one to end up on the cutting room floor.
“I would never do that to her, but I definitely wanted to make it happen.”
The director also hailed Tilda’s ‘Three Thousand Years of Longing’ co-star Idris Elba and was impressed by the two stars working together on the project.
George said: “I must say, he’s wonderful. Watching them work together was such a delight for me. It’s one thing to have the characters on the page and in your head, but it’s another to see the actors manifest the characters.”
Miller previously confirmed that ‘Furiosa’ would be a “saga” set over the course of 15 years, with the movie seeing Anya Taylor-Joy taking on the part that was played by Charlize Theron in ‘Fury Road’.
He said: “All I can say about my excitement about doing it is that it’s definitely exciting, because even though it’s certainly out of that world of ‘Fury Road’, it’s also got a lot of the differences we’ve been talking about.
“Again, it’s uniquely familiar. And probably the biggest difference is the timespan. ‘Fury Road’ happened over three days and two nights and this one happens over 15 years. So, it’s a saga.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jessie Buckley “didn’t” manage to keep a straight face while Rory Kinnear wore false teeth during the filming of ‘Men’.
The ‘Lost Daughter’ star joked that eagle-eyed viewers of the Alex Garland directed horror film – where the pair play multiple characters – could spot her “back shuddering” when her 44-year-old co-star was wearing his artificial gnashers.
After being asked by HeyUGuys.com’s Stefan Page how she maintained a “straight face,” the 32-year-old actress quipped: “I didn’t. There was a lot of turning away from camera and a lot of kind of back shuddering that if you look closely enough, you’ll see quite a few times across.”
Rory added: “You package it as terror.”
After being asked about being a movie that left the audience with more questions, ‘The Imitation Game’ star ruled that it’s not an actor’s “job” to give solutions to the viewer.
Rory said: “It’s not our job. I mean, you know, fundamentally we’re playing characters and working with each other and telling the scene, each speech each time and getting to play those scenes in a number of different roles and creating with each character a different dynamic between Jessie and myself in them.”
The ‘Quantum of Solace’ star finds it “exciting and challenging” to be in a movie that lets the audiences feel than be understood through “intellectual analysis”.
Rory said: “That’s really exciting and challenging, but you never really know what you’re in or what it’s going to find, how you’re going to feel about it. And I do think that that is kind of the interesting thing about the film. It does leave questions, but also really leaves feeling and I think it demands a kind of emotional response rather than necessarily a intellectual analysis that it most importantly exists as something that makes you feel.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Machine Gun Kelly based the plot of his new movie ‘Good Mourning’ on a rocky time in his relationship with Megan Fox.
The musician makes his directorial debut with the film, and his co-writer and co-director Mod Sun has revealed the movie was inspired by texts between MGK and Megan which left the star worried she was about to dump him.
During a chat with Us Weekly, Mod explained: “It’s inspired by true events. When Kells (MGK) started his relationship with Megan, she left the country to work on a film.
“She had terrible (cell phone) service where she was (but) would text whenever she could.”
Mod then revealed MGK was left concerned by the messages and went to all his friends to ask their opinion on whether she was about to break their romance off.
He added: “He’d misread these cryptic texts, assumed the worst and asked (me) and our friends if we thought she was breaking up with him. We started the script to keep his mind off the relationship.”
The movie takes place over the course of a day in Los Angeles and follows a fictional actor named London Clash who is offered the role of a lifetime in a new ‘Batman’ movie.
However, his good news is soured by a text from his girlfriend which suggests they are about to split.
Mod added of the plot: “It deals with the human condition of how we create the worst-case scenarios in our heads because we don’t have all the information.”
‘Good Mourning’ stars Pete Davidson and Dove Cameron as well as MGK and Megan themselves.
MGK and Megan started dating in 2020, and they announced their engagement in January 2022.

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ director Joseph Kosinksi has admitted that there is no “director’s cut” of the movie.
The 48-year-old filmmaker took the reins of the long-awaited sequel to 1986 American action film – which has seen Tom Cruise reprise his role as test pilot Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell – but revealed that there is no extended version of the two-hour film because it was just put together “as they went along.”
He said: “I didn’t do a director’s cut. We really just started putting the movie together as we shot it. So, I think by the time we had finished shooting, we just had a film. First pass, it was probably 2:35, I would say, to have everything in there. But very quickly we were cutting it down. So, there’s a couple scenes, they’re left out. There’s a couple, like there’s a shot in the first trailer of Maverick looking up at the F-14 on the stick, things like that, that didn’t make it in. But for the most part, it was just about, the shot or the scene had to be pretty good to make it into this cut.”
The acclaimed director also explained that he is unsure what will be used as bonus material on the upcoming Blu-ray release of the film because there are no deleted scenes and the final film was the “best cut” possible.
He told Collider: “I don’t know if we’ve decided what we’re going to put on the Blu-ray yet. I think there will only be one cut. This was the best cut we could come up with. There aren’t multiple cuts. There’s not extended versions. But yeah, I’m not sure if we’re going to do those other scenes or not.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Zac Efron nearly missed out in a new adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘Firestarter’ because of his past as a teen heart-throb.
The ‘High School Musical’ star appears in Keith Thomas’ big screen reimagining of the classic 1980 book playing Andy McGee – a father with psychic abilities – but the filmmaker admitted the 34-year-old star’s past roles in the likes of ’17 Again’ and ‘Hairspray’ made it hard for him to envisage him for the part.
However, Keith changed his mind after watching Zac’s turn as serial killer Ted Bundy in 2019 film ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile’.
Keith told Total Film magazine: “As for Zac … immediately I thought of the teen idol thing, though I’d seen him in the Ted Bundy film and some other roles.
“But when I first met with him … you know, he’s in his mid-30s, and was very keen to do something different; to do a genre he’d never been in before; and to portray a father.”
Zac recently admitted he was “drastically under-prepared” for playing a father in the film.
He said: “I didn’t think about it all that much.
“And then when we started filming the movie, I had a two-week quarantine … and when I got out of quarantine, we started filming that Monday, so it was a pretty quick intro to the film, and all of a sudden I had this daughter in front of me.
“We had a pretty heavy dad-daughter scene right off the bat, and I realised I was drastically under-prepared for this part. I didn’t know what I was doing.”
After shooting the movie, the actor admitted he will not be looking to have kids anytime soon.
He added: “I think that was a healthy dose to put me off for as long as necessary. I have a little bit more growing to do, probably.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Will Poulter never expected to be cast in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.’
The 29-year-old actor will star alongside the likes of Zoe Saldana and Chris Pratt in the upcoming superhero movie as villain Adam Warlock but admitted he “never planned” to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
He said: “I’ve gotta say, I never banked on being involved, in any capacity, really, but I’m certainly very grateful. I’m especially grateful that my introduction has taken place in the world of the Guardians, specifically. It’s a franchise that I’m a particularly big fan of, and I couldn’t ask for a nicer, more fun introduction, really, into the Marvel universe.”
‘The Score’ star was then asked if he had “considered” the possibility that he may have to sign up to appear as the character in several other MCU movies and TV shows, to which he acknowledged that he had to but has no idea what is in store for the character following his upcoming debut in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.’
He told Collider: “Yeah, you do have to entertain that possibility [of signing up for more]. The truth is, I don’t actually know what the future holds for me, regarding the character. Certainly, it comes with a certain level of commitment that requires consideration, but obviously, I’m very grateful to have been given the role!
I think variety certainly makes it interesting for me and I hope interesting for audience members too, but it’s the quality of the material, more than anything else. I let the script guide me. I don’t tend to allow genre, or size, or medium, or anything like that, to dictate my choices, wherever possible.”
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.’ is set to me released in May 2023.
