OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Sheila Hancock is “glad” she doesn’t have to “bother” having sex anymore.
The ‘Bedtime’ star – whose second husband John Thaw died in 2002 – thinks getting frisky between the sheets is a “hassle” and is happy that she’s lost the desire “to please men”.
While chatting about the topic with comedian Jo Brand – who asked her about potentially getting herself a “young one” – the 89-year-old actress said: “Who would bother. No, I am quite glad. I really am.”
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Sheila added: “I mean it’s such a hassle, all that trying to please men.
“I don’t have to bother with that any more. I do my own thing. No, I have got better things to do with my money … chocolate!”
While appearing on stage together as part of ‘Sheila’s Old Rage’ tour at Richmond Theatre in London, the Olivier Award winner mused she “can’t pretend” that she doesn’t ponder dying frequently.
She said: “I can’t pretend I don’t think about death a lot. I belong to a book club, it was our 20th anniversary, and one of them said, ‘Here’s to our next 10!’
“I thought: ‘Are you sure about that?’ Inevitably, you do think you are getting closer and closer to it … as for what happens next, I can’t be bothered to worry about it.”
Sheila – who has two actress daughters, Melanie Thaw, 57, and Joanna Thaw, 47, with late husband John – quipped: “I will probably go and meet all the people I loathe.”
Last month, the theatre legend admitted she felt still working is the key to how she’s stayed so vibrant.
She said: “I do feel that work keeps me going but I also wish that wasn’t the case. I wish I wasn’t obsessionally work-oriented; that I didn’t feel guilty when I don’t work, or that my life is over. If I have a day in my diary when nothing’s happening, I’ll think ‘Oh, lovely’ until I wake up. Then I feel frightened.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Katherine Ryan confronted a TV colleague and called him a “predator” to his face.
The 38-year-old comedian has told how she made the allegation to the guy in front of other workers on an unnamed programme.
Speaking on her new Amazon Prime Video series ‘Backstage With Katherine Ryan’, she told fellow comedian Sara Pascoe: “I’ve done a show with a person who I and you believe is a predator. What am I supposed to do?
“I’ve thought about that, but it’s such a messy thing because I don’t have proof – what, am I not supposed to feed my children because of someone else?”
Sara replied: “Also in that instance that you’re referencing it was about raising it.”
Katherine said: “I raised it. I called him a predator to his face and in front of everyone every day.”
Sara also told how she went to a channel she was working for after a viewer contacted her, alleging to have been raped by a male she was working with on a show.
She said: “Have you ever done a job and then someone’s contacted you and said, ‘That’s my rapist’? I had it on a job recently where I’ve had to go to the channel, and it’s that whole thing because you feel such a sense of responsibility but you also want it to be dealt with well … it’s so complicated.”
As well as starring in her comedy-drama series ‘The Duchess’, Katherine – who has 12-year-old daughter Violet from a previous relationship and 11-month-old son Frederick with partner Bobby Kootstra – is known for appearing on panel shows such as ‘Have I Got News For You’, ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ and ‘8 Out Of 10 Cats’, among others.

OHMYGOSSIP — Michelle Visage is “over the moon” to be getting a show on BBC Radio 2 amid a schedule shake up.
The ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ judge will present the 7pm to 9pm slot on Fridays to get listeners into the “best mood” before the weekend, and DJ Spoony and Angela Griffin have also been made permanent additions to the station.
The 53-year-old television personality said: “I’m over the moon to be broadcasting my very own show to millions of listeners on Radio 2, where each Friday night I’ll be launching the listeners’ weekends in fabulous style with some of my all time favourite tracks that promise to get you in the best mood! And I’m back with a new series of my ‘Rule Breakers’ for BBC Sounds – I’m so excited! Bring it all on!”
Michelle – who had a long radio career Stateside – will take over from radio legend Tony Blackburn, whose ‘Golden Hour’, dubbed “the fastest show on radio”, is relocating to Sunday nights at 7pm to 8pm from Wogan House.
Along with Michelle, Spoony is “excited” to be bringing back ‘The Good Groove with DJ Spoony’ – which began as a four-part series earlier this year – as a weekly show between 9pm and 11pm on Friday exploring the best of vintage soul, R and B, Motown and other genres.
The 51-year-old DJ said: “I’m so excited to be launching my very own show on Radio 2 on Friday nights in July. Whether you’re having a great night in or getting ready for a brilliant night out, join me for the best dance and party tracks I can find as we make Friday night, party night!”
On Sunday nights between 10pm to midnight, Angela – who has covered for Steve Wright on ‘Sunday Love Songs’ – will helm ‘Radio 2 Unwinds’, a programme that seeks to take audiences through a multi-genre relaxing mission to prepare for the weekend ahead, with artists such as Billie Holiday, Gladys Knight and Gregory Porter.
The 45-year-old performer said: “I’m over the moon to be given my very own BBC Radio 2 programme. I loved presenting my series last year as I was already a huge fan of the station, so I’m proud to be given my first proper weekly show. I’ll be bringing two hours of chilled out tunes curated by myself and the listeners, to help unwind and relax before the week ahead.”
Bosses for the station are “delighted” to also be welcoming Angela and DJ Spoony from July 15.
Other changes to the station include the loss of Craig Charles’ show ‘Craig Charles’ House Party’, Ana Matronic’s Sunday morning ‘Dance Devotion’, and Dr Rangan Chatterjee’s 10pm to midnight slot on Sundays.
Craig – who will remain at BBC Radio 6 Music each weekday at 1pm to 4pm and he has a 6pm to 9pm slot on Saturdays for the ‘The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show’ – said: “Every party must come to an end and although I’m packing up my Trunk of Funk on Radio 2, I’ve loved bringing the party to its funky listeners each Saturday night.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Dame Deborah James is “doing OK” and is “taking life slowly”.
The 40-year-old journalist – who was diagnosed with inoperable bowel cancer in 2018 and became known as the Bowel Babe through hosting the ‘You, Me and the Big C’ podcast – appeared on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’ via video link to thank the TV star and her team for taking part in Race For Life.
She said: “Hello Team Lorraine! Firstly, congratulations on running Race For Life last night to, well, celebrate life, celebrate why we’re all here, and raise vital funds.
“I am doing OK, I’m stable. I think stability is a good thing. I’m taking life slowly. Not on social media too much and just spend time in the garden with my family. A much slower pace of life, which is not what I’m used to.”
The former deputy headteacher explained to viewers that while her time is “limited”, she has already exceeded the doctor’s expectations and is “proud” to have created a legacy for herself with the Bowel Babe fund, which has so far raised more than £6.6 million for Cancer Research.
She said: “My time is limited but I’ve already outlived, yet again, what I was told when I was sent home from the hospital, so I think already I’m a bit surprised.
“But it’s about having a sense of purpose and continuing with the campaign. The Bowel Babe fund I’m so proud of and it’s a legacy that I am so proud to leave behind when I am no longer here. But for the moment I’m here, I’m alive [and] kicking as much as I possibly can, and sending my love and thank you for all your kind messages.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Jordan North is to host a new physical challenge series for BBC Three.
The 32-year-old DJ – who is known for hosting shows on BBC Radio 1 – is currently filming new reality show ‘Warrior Island’ on an exotic island, which will see eight young people cut off from the modern world in a month-long programme in an effort to improve their mental and physical health.
Jordan was runner-up on ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ in 2020 and explained that he has tried to “push himself” ever since throwing up on the side of a cliff on the show.
Jordan said: “Nearly two years ago, in front of the nation, I was sick on the edge of a cliff and everything changed forever – from there I pushed myself out of my comfort zone and I haven’t looked back since. Which is why I love this show. We’re pushing eight young people well beyond their comfort zones to become stronger in body and mind to help turn their lives around.”
Each of the eight contestants will be paired with experts in a specific of fitness and health – known as Warriors – who will mentor and push them every step of the way.
Each Warrior will display a unique set of skills – from MMA fighters to yogis, personal trainers to Olympians – and an individual approach they hope will push their trainees out of their comfort zone and help them overcome the problems they are facing in their life.
The 10-part series is set to air on BBC Three and iPlayer in early 2023.

The ‘Outlaws’ star and creator finds partaking in the online version of the ancient board game “fun” and it is one of his favourite ways to unwind.
The 47-year-old comedian said: “You can play five-minute games, you can play three-day games with complete strangers. It’s anonymous, so that’s fun.”
Stephen shared how “odd” it is when he gets “insulted” for bad moves against people who are clearly fans of ‘The Office’, the classic workplace comedy he co-created with Ricky Gervais.
Speaking on the ‘Plot Twist’ podcast, he said: “There’s quite a lot of sledging, so quite often I’ll be insulted by someone after a game if I’ve lost, or made a poor move, and you’ll get the emoji of Nelson Muntz from ‘The Simpsons’. The ‘ha ha’ version of that.
“What’s really odd is when I get those insults from people who have ‘The Office’ images as avatars. I always think it’s quite funny that they don’t know who I am and they’re like, ‘ha ha’.
“Yet, they’ve got Dwight Schrute, from the American version, as their little picture.”
Stephen also admitted to being “ready to go” if the BBC wants a third season of his new sitcom, which stars Rhianne Barreto, Eleanor Tomlinson and Christopher Walken.
What’s more, the star recently admitted he had to write most of the insults in ‘The Outlaws’ about his character, lawyer Greg, because the writers were “too scared” to do so.
He said: “Well, most of the insults would be written by me because the writers are too scared, obviously, to insult me to my face, but that’s all born out of that John Cleese inspiration, of making fun of the physical attributes that you have.
“I have no vanity when it comes to comedy. I’m happy to embarrass myself, I find that funny. It’s not self-loathing. It’s just … why wouldn’t you make fun of that stuff?”

OHMYGOSSIP — Esme Young was “frightened” to work with Cher.
The 73-year-old fashion designer – who is known for her role as a judge on ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ – impressed pop megastar Cher, 76, by altering her costume back in 1999, but turned down the chance to become her costume maker.
She said: “I like being surprised and I don’t think about the future. Things happen and I generally just go for it. But I was frightened [to work with Cher]. I was also worried it would take up too much of my time. I was scared because I didn’t want to mess up.”
Throughout her career, the TV star has worked with the likes of David Bowie and famously designed the bunny suit worn by Renee Zellwegger in ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’.
Esme got the job on TV by chance when she met a show producer at a party as a replacement for May Martin.
She told the Daily Express newspaper: “[The producer] had asked me if I was interested and I told her yes – I had had a few drinks. We’re a real little community. It’s fabulous how the sewers bond and help each other.”
Esme added that judges often end up forming friendships with contestants after the show but admitted she wouldn’t have got the job on television in the first place in decades gone by.
She added: “They’ll carry on being friends and will meet up with contestants from] different series. I wouldn’t have ended up on ‘Sewing Bee’ back in the 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s.”
The final of ‘The Great British Sewing Bee’ airs on BBC One on June 29 at 9pm, which will see Esme reunite with fellow judge Patrick Grant and host Sara Pascoe to crown one amateur “Britain’s best home sewer”.

OHMYGOSSIP — Roo Irvine, Caroline Hawley and Danny Sebastian are joining the presenting team of ‘Bargain Hunt’.
The long-running BBC One antiques competition show is getting a trio of fresh faces – adding to the already existing lineup of experts Natasha Raskin Sharp, Christina Trevanion, Eric Knowles and Charlie Ross – to help novices make a killing at auction houses across the nation.
Roo – who will make her debut on 13 June in an episode set in Southwell, Nottinghamshire – called filming is “exhilarating, exciting and great fun” but isn’t a fan of her ‘morning alarm” to film the show, which airs everyday at 12.15pm.
She continued: “I’m loving every second of it! ‘Bargain Hunt’ has such a happy, chilled vibe and that’s down to the contestants and the crew. It’s like a big family. They say ‘do what you love and you’ll never do a day’s work again’ – that is definitely me!”
“I am a night owl and definitely not a morning person, so my morning alarm when filming often makes me cry into my pillow!”
Caroline – who channels her inner ‘Top Gun’ need for speed in her first episode on 27 June in a Spitfire at RAF Cosford in Shropshire – feels “lucky” to immerse herself in British military history.
She said “I find it incredibly moving to sit in the cockpit where a young man sat in the war, very, very moving. Spine tingling. I feel very privileged to do that, very lucky.”
Caroline added: “Presenting ‘Bargain Hunt’ is absolutely amazing. I enjoy it so much! It’s fantastic to meet so many people with a passion for their subject, whatever that is. I love it all.”
Danny – a noted fan of upcycling will make his debut in October- labelled his new gig “like a dream come true”.
He said: “I’m absolutely over the moon, it’s beautiful really. It’s like a dream come true. I always thought I’d love to do this job – I’m so extremely fortunate to be given the opportunity. It’s a fabulous show, very iconic and presenting it has given me a real kick.”
Of meeting the teams in Harrogate, Danny said: “It’s so nice to meet the teams because you find it’s a great buzz for them too and you’re feeling that with them.”

OHMYGOSSIP — The Yorkshire Shepherdess Amanda Owen has split from her husband Clive after almost 22 years of marriage.
They confirmed the break-up in a joint statement after months of speculation the TV farming couple had split.
The pair – dubbed the ‘Country Kardashians’ – insisted they will continue to work on the Yorkshire farm where they have raised their nine children, as they say the huge brood’s happiness is their top priority.
The Instagram announcement made this evening (09.06.22) by Amanda said: “Clive and I have are sad to confirm that we have made the difficult decision to separate.
“This hasn’t been easy, but we bot believe it’s the right choice for the future of our family. Although we are no longer a couple, we continue to work on the farm and co-parent together, with our number one priority the happiness and well-being of our children.“
They went on to thank their supporters during the trauma time and asked for their privacy to be respected, before signing off as “Amanda and Clive”.
The couple, who starred in Channel 5’s series about life on Ravenseat Farm in Swaledale, last October admitted they were going through a “rocky patch” and said “we’ve never said our marriage is perfect” after locals revealed they had been living apart for months.
They addressed the fierce speculation about their relationship being in trouble with a joint statement that said: “With the TV show and the books we’ve always aimed to show the reality of life on the farm, and just like any marriage we have our stresses and strains, coupled with all the complexities of what we do on the farm and bringing up nine kids.
“We’re a normal family and we’ve never said our marriage is perfect. Unfortunately the constant intrusion into our lives from the media has amplified a rocky patch that we’re going through. We ask that the media respect our privacy as we work through this.”
Clive, who was married to another woman for 13 years, married Amanda married in 2000 after meeting five years earlier.
They were living at Ravenseat Farm, North Yorkshire with their nine children Raven, Reuben, Miles, Edith, Violet, Sidney, Annas, Clementine and Nancy.
Amanda became beloved as ‘The Yorkshire Shepherdess’ after opening her farm life to cameras and has released five books and appeared in other TV projects, including on last year’s BBC Four series Winter Walks.
