Dr. Ranj Singh: Coming out when I was 30 was not easy

OHMYGOSSIP — Dr. Ranj Singh has admitted coming out at the age of 30 was “not easy”.
The 43-year-old TV star – who grew up in a traditional Sikh household and was married to Sulvinder Samra until 2011 – came out as gay in 2009 and explained that while he was “lucky” to have a supportive family, he appreciates that is not always the case for everyone.
He said: “I came out when I was 30 and I don’t think it’s easy to do that, especially if you’re from any kind of ethnic community, but I was lucky enough to be surrounded by people who were very supportive. My friends have been fantastic and my family have been great, as they should be. But I appreciate there are people out there, especially from certain communities, who don’t have that experience and coming out for them can be dangerous. That’s why I continue to be very vocal and visible when it comes to these matters so maybe someone who’s having a tough time can see a little bit of hope.”
The ‘This Morning’ star – who still practices as a children’s doctor when he is not giving out medical advice on TV – went on to describe June’s Pride Month as “very important” to him and claimed that the celebrations are a “reminder” that equality has still not been achieved for everyone.
He told the Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds column: “Pride is very important to me and I think it should be important to everybody, actually.
“Pride is just a reminder to everyone that diverse people exist and sadly don’t always share the same rights as everybody else. Even if Pride is a celebration of the wonderful LGBTQ+ community, it’s also a reminder that things still aren’t equal for everyone and that we need to keep pushing for that.”

Jermaine Jenas: Gemma Owen’s Love Island stint may not be ideal career step

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Owen’s ‘Love Island’ stint may not be an “ideal” career move, according to Jermaine Jenas.
The 19-year-old star – who is the daughter of footballing legend Michael Owen, 42, and his wife Louise Bosnall – is currently taking part in the hit ITV2 reality dating show, but Michael’s fellow football pundit Jermaine has admitted that if it were his own daughter, he would have “concerns” over the media scrutiny that comes with taking part.
He said: “I’m not stupid enough to say, ‘I’d be fuming.’ One thing I’ve learned growing up in dressing rooms is that if you say, ‘I don’t want my daughter to do this,’ all that does is push them away. want all my kids to be honest with me. If my daughter came to me and said, ‘I want to go on Love Island,’ I would probably voice my concerns because of the scrutiny involved. But if she thinks she can handle it, I would say, ‘Go and enjoy yourself, as long as you know what’s coming’.”
However, the former Tottenham Hotspur player – who has daughters Geneva, nine, and Olivia, five, as well as son Jacob, eight, with wife Ellie, and has daughter Sancha, 14, from a previous relationship – admitted that Gemma has “done well” on the show so far, but explained that her chosen route to success may not be the most “ideal”.
He told OK! magazine: “From what I’ve seen, Gemma has done well and I think some people on social media have been too harsh. She might go on to do great things and this might be her first step towards doing that – and it might not be the ideal step but it might be a step. But obviously, when I see Michael there will be a bit of winding up!”
‘Love Island’ airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

Scott Derrickson refused to reveal The Black Phone backstory

OHMYGOSSIP — Scott Derrickson refused to give more backstory for The Grabber in ‘The Black Phone’.
The 56-year-old director is at the helm of the new horror flick – which stars Ethan Hawke and is based on Joe Hill’s short story of the same name – and he wouldn’t back down despite the studio and audiences wanting more details.
He told The Daily Beast: “When we test-screened the movie, everybody in the audience said, we want to know more about The Grabber.
“The studio really asked me, ‘Can you at least try writing something that we could reshoot that would explain him more?’
“And I said, ‘No, I won’t do that’. I said, ‘It’s great that they want to know more about The Grabber — that’s wonderful’. But I said that if you explain who he is, he’s going to be way less interesting.”
The ‘Doctor Strange’ filmmaker pointed to iconic big screen villains like The Joker and Hannibal Lecter as perfect examples of the idea that less can be more.
He explained: “For the creation of a good iconic horror villain, I think it’s a requisite [to embrace the unknown]. You know, Heath Ledger’s Joker is a guy in a mask, essentially, and when he says to the people he’s terrorizing, ‘You wanna know how I got these scars?’, the answer is no!
“I want to hear the multiple lies. I want to hear five different versions, so we’re never going to know how you got those scars. That’s scarier, because it causes you to infer or imagine something, and whatever you might infer or imagine or just feel is the worst possible thing.
“Imagine if there was a scene in ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ that explained why Hannibal Lecter eats people? It would ruin that villain. There’s mystery that you need, and there’s mystery to characters like this.”

Natalie Portman would love a Thor and Captain Marvel crossover

OHMYGOSSIP — Natalie Portman would love to work on a ‘Thor’ and ‘Captain Marvel’ spin-off.
The 41-year-old actress – who plays Jane Foster in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ and sees the character handed the legendary hammer – would love to team up with her friend Brie Larson in an epic crossover.
She told Variety: “I love ‘Captain Marvel’ Brie is a dear friend so that would be a fun one. That would be cool.”
Portman admitted she is “so excited” to see Jane Foster become The Mighty Thor, particularly because it gives children other superhero women to “identify with”.
She explained: “I feel so lucky. I feel so excited that that has become part of the story arc for Jane.
“I think it’s incredible that all children have an array of women they can identify with and there’s just not one. I feel like I grew up where there was like Wonder Woman or maybe Catwoman.
“There [was] one kind of these characters, so now to have this wide variety of personalities, different appearances, different powers, it allows everyone to imagine their potential.”
She recently revealed she had to bulk up for the role, which was a different experience.
She said: “On ‘Black Swan’, I was asked to get as small as possible. Here, I was asked to get as big as possible. That’s an amazing challenge – and also state of mind as a woman.”
Meanwhile, ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ director Taika Waititi wanted Portman’s alter ego to be more than just the love interest for Chris Hemsworth’s titular superhero.
He explained: “I’ve seen her play the scientist character in ‘Thor’ 1 and 2, and it just seemed pointless to do it again. That character just feels like a love interest.
“It’s an Earthwoman who runs around being mortal and not really consequential throughout.”

Rylan Clark still single after marriage split

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark is still single a year after splitting from his husband Dan Neal.
The TV and radio presenter’s marriage broke down last year and their split was confirmed in June 2021 – and the star has now insisted he’s not been dating anyone and the mystery man he’s been pictured with previously is just his longtime manager.
Rylan explained: “Photographers follow me around (now) … That’s never happened to me before … Now all of a sudden I’m single, it’s like, ‘Who’s he f*****g?’ My manager has been my ‘mystery man’ about four times in the press.”
Rylan went through a tough time after the split and took some time off from his BBC Radio 2 show to deal with his personal issues.
He’s now revealed he’s trying to do more “normal things” to help him move on with his life.
Rylan said: “Over the course of the last year, I’ve been doing a lot more normal things. I think I’ve found a good balance. I love coming home, no make-up on, tracksuit, having a Peroni (beer).”
The ‘Supermarket Sweep’ presenter also explained he’s taken more control of his life in a bid to put his happiness first.
In an interview with The Big Issue magazine, he added: “Genuinely, the best piece of advice I could give myself if make sure you’re always happy. I’ve been in a lot of situations over the last 10 years where I’ve gone on with something because I thought it was the right thing to do. Or because I thought it was good for my job or my personal life. But if you’re not happy, it’s really not worth it.”

Freddie Flintoff: I was bullied at school for playing cricket

OHMYGOSSIP — Freddie Flintoff was “bullied at school” for playing cricket.
The 44-year-old star – who went on to play for England – has compared the bullying he received during his school days to that of ballet dancer Billy Elliot in the 2000 film, which starred Jamie Bell and Julie Walters.
He said: “At both the schools I went to, cricket was just not on the radar. I got so much stick for playing cricket, bullied even, it was almost like Billy Elliot – except he had it easier being a ballet dancer.”
The ‘Lord of the Fries’ presenter – who was state school educated – is now fronting a new documentary series which will see him heading into schools in his hometown of Preston, Lancashire, to introduce cricket to a new generation of youngsters.
He claims the game is “elitist” because the majority of players have been privately educated, but admitted he took a “weird pleasure” in beating them on the pitch.
He told the Radio Times magazine: “When you look at the England team, when we started this process a year ago, it was 60/40 public school to state school kids. But only 7 per cent of kids go to private school. That makes it elitist. I had my bat I bought for £21.50 and my Auntie Joan bought my pads from Hamleys toy shop.
“You’re playing against all these private school kids who’ve got all the gear. I took this weird pleasure in beating them.
“When I look back on my life, I think that if I didn’t have cricket, what would I have done? Who would I be? I’ve wanted to do something like this for a long time.”

Alesha Dixon devastated after dog dies

OHMYGOSSIP — Alesha Dixon has been left devastated after her beloved dog Daisy died.
The ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judge, who has had her pet canine for the last 13 years, took to Instagram to tell her fans the heart-breaking news.
Whilst posting a snap of herself next to Daisy, Alesha, 43, wrote: “I will love you forever Daisy.
“13 years of loving you.
“My beautiful Daisy.”
Friends and fans flooded the comments section offering up their condolences to the singer.
The mother-of-two – who shares eight-year-old daughter Azura and two-year-old daughter Anaya with her husband Azuka Onoye, 41 – previously told how she enjoyed family walks in the woods with her three rescue dogs during the coronavirus lockdown periods.
Alesha said: “When the weather’s nice, we like to go to the woods with our three rescue dogs.
“Obviously the dogs still need walking when it’s rainy, but we’re not as quick to get out of the house then.
“If I could snap my fingers and go anywhere, it would be Cornwall to watch the dogs running in and out of the sea on a beautiful beach. I love the ocean.”
In 2013, Alesha admitted she had always had a penchant for pooches.
Speaking about visiting a zoo to help free three young European brown bears, who had been living in poor conditions, she said: “I have always been a huge dog lover and that’s always been my main focus. That made me open up to other animals and what they are experiencing and it just breaks your heart because once you start looking into it, it’s never ending. You never feel you can do enough.
“Romania was really shocking. I was expecting it to be bad but it was far worse when I got there.
“These bears had basically been living there for their whole lives, some of them 20 years, in cages you could barely swing a cat in with nothing so much as a tyre to chew or any fresh water.”

James ‘Arg’ Argent in budding relationship with woman he met in Mykonos

OHMYGOSSIP — James ‘Arg’ Argent is in a budding relationship with a woman he met in Mykonos.
The 34-year-old reality star – who previously dated fellow ‘TOWIE’ alums Gemma Collins and Lydia Bright – has been enjoying his wedding singer career in recent months, and revealed that while he was on the Greek island for a gig he met a mystery lady with whom he has exchanged numbers.
He said: “I did meet someone nice actually. I did meet a woman in Mykonos. It wasn’t a holiday romance or anything like that but we exchanged numbers and I’ve been speaking to her. She’s not English, she lives abroad. So who knows? It’s exciting anyway!”
Arg – who lost 14 stone after he underwent a gastric sleeve procedure, after his weight reached 27 stone – admitted his only “regret” about going under the knife is that he didn’t do it sooner.
He said: “Initially, when you get the operation done, it’s a bit of a shock to the system. You go from binge-eating, over-eating to all of a sudden you’re only on liquids and minimal amount of food and it’s just kind of getting your mind right.
“But as the weight drops down, you start feeling healthier and I promise you now it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. And if anyone says to me, ‘Have you got any regrets?’, the only regret is I didn’t get it sooner.
“It has worked for me and it wasn’t a quick fix. I struggled with my weight for many, many years with lots of diets and for me, it has just worked.”
However, James added that while he has “not suffered too badly” with excess skin following the weight loss, he is still “conscious” about it and admitted he will address it eventually.
Speaking on ‘Lorraine’, he said: “I’ve been quite fortunate with my age and stuff so I haven’t suffered too badly with excess skin but I’m not gonna lie, around the stomach area, there is a bit of excess skin and I’m conscious when I wear my swimming shorts around the swimming pool.
“You know like the old Simon Cowell style? That is something I’m gonna have to address but I’m quite lucky. There is excess skin but it’s minimal.”

The 31-year-old star – who took part in the 2019 series of the programme – feels “grateful” she didn’t have to perform a “sexy dance” during her time on the ITV2 dating show, admitting she would’ve much rather much rather of taken part in some of the programme’s bizarre food challenges instead.
India told the Daily Star newspaper: “I know that when I was in there [that] I was so grateful that I didn’t have to do the strip challenge because I don’t think I could have done that – not sober.
“No, no way could I have done that, I would have rather done a food challenge than a sexy dance any day of the week.

She said: “It’s unrealistic to every day look in the mirror and not want to wish things were a little different, but nowadays I spend a lot less time thinking about it.
“Your body is your body and you don’t want to reach 80 and be like, ‘why didn’t I wear a bikini or nice underwear all because I hated my body?’
“You’re only going to regret it. I think sometimes we spend too much time analysing ourselves.”

Baz Luhrmann reveals 4-hour version of Elvis film exists

OHMYGOSSIP — Baz Luhrmann has revealed there is a four-hour version of his ‘Elvis’ film.
The 59-year-old director recently helmed the two-hour 39-minutes movie, which stars Austin Butler as titular music legend Elvis Presley, but there is also a longer cut in existence.
He said: “I mean, I have a four-hour version, actually.
“I do. But you have to bring it down to 2 hours 30.”
Luhrmann would’ve like to have included more about Elvis’ romance with his first girlfriend, Dixie, as well as his relationship with his band in the motion picture.
The film tells of Elvis’ childhood and his rise to stardom as well as his relationship with his manager Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks).
Luhrmann added to RadioTimes.com: “I would have liked to lean into some of the other things more – there’s so much more.
“I mean, there’s lots of stuff that I shot like the relationship with the band, I had to pare [that] down – and it’s so interesting how the Colonel [Tom Parker, played by Tom Hanks] gets rid of them.
“The relationship with his first girlfriend, Dixie, you know. And later on how… once he’s caught in a trap, and he’s discombobulated and doesn’t understand … someone who’s got such a hole in his heart like Elvis constantly looking and searching for love and finding it on stage but nowhere else.”
Butler recently admitted he felt an “immense amount of fear” playing Elvis.
He said: “I felt such a responsibility to Elvis, his family, all the people around the world who love him so much. So it was an incredible amount of pressure – and with that comes an immense amount of fear.
“I started feeling this energetic exchange. And so I allowed my imagination to just truly accept that this is the ’68 Special’, I’m doing this for this audience right now. My career is on the line.
“I looked at myself in the mirror – I’m dressed in the leather, covered in sweat. And I had this moment where suddenly I was like, ‘OK I can do this.’ ”

Kevin Feige teases plans for Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 5

OHMYGOSSIP — Kevin Feige has teased plans for Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Marvel Studio president has weighed in on the development of the long running big screen franchise, and he admitted fans will soon get an idea of the future of the film series.
He told Total Film magazine: “As we’re nearing the end of Phase 4, I think people will start to see where this next saga is going.”
Fans are hoping for announcements regarding the next stage of the MCU at Comic-Con this summer or the D23 Expo in September, although nothing is confirmed.
Phase Four of the MCU saw Disney integrate television into Marvel’s overall story, including the likes of ‘WandaVision’ on Disney Plus, which in turn played into recent blockbuster ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.
This opens up more opportunities for Feige and the Marvel team to tell even grander stories across the big and small screen.
Meanwhile, the executive insisted he has already dropped “many clues” about the franchise’s future.
He added: “I think there have been many clues already, that are at least apparent to me, of where this whole saga is going.
“But we’ll be a little more direct about that in the coming months, to set a plan, so audiences who want to see the bigger picture can see a tiny, tiny, tiny bit more of the roadmap.”
Phase Four is still a huge focus for Marvel, with ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ coming this summer, following by ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ in November.
Meanwhile, 2023 will see ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ drop in May with ‘The Marvels’ following two months later, while ‘Thunderbolts’ and the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot are yet to be given a firm release date.

Craig Revel Horwood joins Celebrity Googlebox for Pride special

OHMYGOSSIP — Craig Revel Horwood will be “very nice and very sweet” on ‘Celebrity Gogglebox’.
The ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ judge has signed up to appear on the Channel 4 show’s upcoming Pride special alongside his friend Ben Boddard, and he admitted he will have a similar response to viewers if he ends up having to watch himself.
As quoted by the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV column, he laughed: “I’d probably say, ‘Who is that nasty piece of work on the end? He’s a misery!’
“I’d have the opinion as people on Gogglebox as people have on me – I really am miserable and need to smile a bit more!
“But I am actually very nice and very sweet and people will see that when they see me watching the TV!”
The acid tongued judge admitted he thought ‘Gogglebox’ was a “ridiculous” idea when it launched in 2013, but almost a decade later he has become a huge fan.
He added: “I thought, ‘Why would we be interested in watching people watching TV? It’s ridiculous.’
“And then I was hooked and loved it! It’s exactly what happens at home – people comment freely – and it’s wonderful.”
Craig and Ben will be part of the Pride special, with the lineup also seeing ‘The Chase’ star Paul Sinha and his husband Olly Levy make their first appearance on the show.
Meanwhile, Nick and Liv Grimshaw, Rylan and Linda Clark, and Duncan James and Denise Van Outen will return.
The episode will be broadcast on July 1 as part of the current series.
Channel 4 has said the programme will celebrate 50 years of Pride and highlight both the achievements and challenges of advancing LGBTQ+ rights.

He told OK! Magazine: “I couldn’t have got through the last year without my mum, she was there for me majorly. She was my entire support.
