Idris Elba ‘joins bid to buy Channel 4’

OHMYGOSSIP — Idris Elba is involved in talks to buy Channel 4.
The ‘Luther’ star is currently discussing being part of a bid to buy the state-owned broadcaster.
The takeover attempt is being spearheaded by Marc Boyan, who helms production and marketing company Miroma.
Idris, 49, is thinking about becoming a part of the effort to purchase Channel 4, after Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries announced plans to privatise the not-for-profit broadcaster, the Sunday Times newspaper reports.
Idris is now one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. But at the start of his career, he made numerous appearances on British TV shows, like the soap ‘Family Affairs’, and he previously confessed that the experience remains close to his heart.
He shared: “At the time Channel 5 didn’t have lots of viewers. Few thousand, probably? But because they were a new channel they were courageous, they put lots of new young actors on screen, and I hold the experience close to my heart. It was a time that exploded my confidence.”
Years later he returned to UK screens in Sky One’s ‘In the Long Run’, bringing a fictionalised version of his late father, Winston Elba, to life.
Idris said: “That show was a joy to make, a joy to share. It brought back memories that blew my mind. It was a rollercoaster.”
The ‘Beasts of No Nation’ star opted to make the series humorous, even though it lent itself to something more gritty.
Idris said: “We’d chosen to make a comedy. It could quite easily have been a drama, though, about what life was really like in the early 70s for African families in London. But we made it a comedy. And that was the rollercoaster, changing storylines to be more ideal than the reality. You make something a comedy. But life’s not like that. Life’s not a comedy.”

Rainie Cross actress Tanya Franks quits EastEnders

OHMYGOSSIP — Tanya Franks has quit ‘EastEnders’.
The 54-year-old actress has starred as barmaid Rainie Cross on the BBC soap opera on and off since 2007 but most recently returned in 2015 and has reportedly left the show in a storyline that sees her character depart Albert Square with her baby Roland, whom she had become separated from in the months following his birth via surrogate in March 2022.
Rainie – who is the sister of the established character Tanya Branning – became estranged from her son after his father Stuart Highway abandoned him during his secret post-natal depression battle and left him in the care of surrogate Bernie.
But upon growing tired of caring for the tot, Bernie offered Rainie an ultimatum.
She said: “I shouldn’t be the only one putting Roland first. You do not get to make him suffer because your marriage is falling apart.
In scenes yet to air on television, Rainie tells Stuart: “The most important now is my innocent little boy. Your faces, I’ll be fine.”
According to The Sun, Rainie was then seen climbing into a cab with Roland as she left Walford for good.
Stuart Highway – who is played by former ‘Game of Thrones’ actor Ricky Champ – is also said to be leaving the series shortly after Rainie’s exit scenes have aired.
It comes just days after Maddy Hill – known to viewers as market stall trader Nancy Carter – also left the soap opera in scenes shown on Thursday’ (23.06.22) night’s episode and moved Manchester after her boyfriend Zack Hudson (James Farrar) cheated on her
with Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) earlier in the week.
A BBC spokesperson said: “We wish Maddy all the very best for the future.”

Jess and Eve Gale ‘were banned from wearing racy bikinis’

OHMYGOSSIP — Jess and Eve Gale were banned from wearing racy bikinis on ‘Love Island’.
The twins starred on the ITV show in 2020, and claim they both banned from wearing revealing bikinis during their time in the villa.
Eve shared: “I had that thong bikini that I wasn’t allowed to wear and you weren’t allowed to wear that Ann Summers one.
“I had a bikini and it was the real thong one like the Oh Polly ones, it wasn’t nude, but it was thong.”
The twins were told that their outfits were “inappropriate” for the show.
During a Facebook Live interview with the Daily Star newspaper, Jess said: “I was wearing an Ann Summers one and because it’s a family TV show they were like this is inappropriate.”
Then, Eve added: “I had to change it to a tiny bit thicker.”
The blonde beauties also lifted the lid on what happens to the Islanders once they leave the villa.
Eve explained that they actually had different experiences after exiting the show.
She shared: “We both had different experiences. Jess left during the final night, so she could leave with everyone at the end of the show … with me, I did the walkout and then went straight into a room with the producers who debriefed because it was so intense.
“They actually let me sneak back in and see Jess for one last time, I was literally crying. I was a mess.”
Meanwhile, Eve previously revealed that Islanders work to a strict schedule during their time in the villa.
She explained that their time is managed by TV bosses who tell them where to be and when to be there.
Eve said: “We all have dinner, and then we beach hut and everyone documents their days, and once everyone has beach-hutted it’s shower time.”

Ross Kemp questions TV stereotypes of PTSD

OHMYGOSSIP — Ross Kemp is determined to fight TV stereotypes of PTSD.
The former soap star has slammed the way in which the mental health condition is portrayed in TV dramas, saying there needs to be a “more honest representation” of the issue.
The 57-year-old actor explained: “We need drama, and conflict inside the drama and it’s only right to see those characters.
“But there are too many of those characters who actually need to address and be a more honest representation of veterans’ mental health.
“And if you do have PTSD or any mental health issue if you can get access to the right treatment to go through that and come out…”
The former ‘EastEnders’ actor made the comment during an on-air discussion with ‘Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid.
Susanna, 51, said during their conversation: “There is a lot that is described when it comes to PTSD in a drama.
“You know, this idea that a soldier who has seen the worst of the worst out in Iraq or Afghanistan, comes back to be shattered by PTSD, he on a sort of hair-trigger.
“That’s what you’re saying it’s a sort of cliche in drama. That is not helpful because of course, people with PTSD, and not the majority of them will not be like that.”
Ross subsequently explained that PTSD is a “specific kind of mental health”.
He added: “It’s now become an all-encompassing term for a mental health issue.
“Service personnel, veterans, so it only accounts for seven percent of all veterans, and as you compare that to people in the general community who haven’t served, it’s a full percent.
“So it’s not dramatically larger than the people who haven’t served.”

Scott Derrickson wasn’t put off by child killer in The Black Phone

OHMYGOSSIP — Scott Derrickson had no trepidation making a movie about a child killer.
The 55-year-old director has helmed ‘The Black Phone’- based on a short story of the same name by Joe Hill – which tells the story of a sadistic killer named the Grabber (Ethan Hawke) and how his latest victim gets mysterious phone calls from those who have come before in the murderer’s dungeon and was happy to bring the challenging theme to life.
Asked if he had any fears making the movie, Scott told The Hollywood Reporter: “No, and it’s because of Joe’s short story.
“It was taking the most grim subject imaginable – a sadistic child killer, and its story about the abduction of his sixth victim or whatever it was, and yet the story did two things. It combined a serial killer story with a ghost story in a single location, which I had never seen before. That was very original.”
The ‘Doctor Strange’ director continued: “But Joe really writes from the point of view of love. He really writes with great empathy for the characters. He’s not a cynical or mean-spirited horror writer. A lot of horror writers are, and Joe’s quite the opposite.
“So, the grimness of the subject matter, I thought even in the short story, was matched by the empathy and love behind the point of view of the writer.”
Scott revealed that Ethan’s voice made him the ideal actor to bring the Grabber to life.
The filmmaker explained: “The first thing was Ethan’s voice. I think a lot of actors have voices that are not in and of themselves highly memorable. His voice is really distinctive.
“I feel like Hollywood hasn’t made enough use of his voice. Why isn’t he the lead in some great animated movie? His voice doesn’t sound like anybody else’s.
“And I just had a feeling that the Grabber was a role that he could tear up at this particular juncture in his career. I think he read it and felt the same way.”

Charlie Higson hits out at dull James Bond

OHMYGOSSIP — Charlie Higson has claimed that James Bond is being turned into a dull family man.
The 63-year-old comedian – who wrote the bestselling Young Bond book series – is unhappy with the way the legendary spy’s womanising and ruthless side has disappeared in recent 007 movies.
Charlie told the Chalke Valley History Festival: “Bond is a fantasy, he’s got no wife, no kids, you rarely see him at home, he lives in hotels, eats in restaurants, sleeps with as many women as he wants and gets to kill people.
“It’s the best job in the world. You never see him mowing his lawn, washing his car or asking his bank manager for a loan. He’s one guy on a mission.”
Higson revealed that he “absolutely hated” the latest Bond movie ‘No Time To Die’ as it centred on Daniel Craig’s 007 and the relationship the spy had with partner Dr. Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux).
He said: “You don’t have to worry about a back story or any boring discussions with his girlfriend. Which is why I absolutely hate ‘No Time To Die’. They put in all the boring stuff you don’t want.
“The start of the film is great – he’s really in a flash car, having a car chase around Matera. But he’s got his girlfriend with him and they’re having a row. What kind of fantasy is that? Find the ejector seat button, get rid of her and have an adventure.”
Higson revealed that his favourite novel featuring Ian Fleming’s spy is ‘From Russia With Love’ – which was adapted for the big screen in 1963 – but fears that the story would see the author “cancelled” in the modern world.
The writer explained: “There are unfortunately some quite dodgy sequences about women which in today’s age would have got him instantly cancelled. But as a piece of writing, as a well-written, punchy story, it’s really good.”

Gemma Owen and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu war over Luca Bish

OHMYGOSSIP — Gemma Owen and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu war over Luca Bish in Monday night’s (27.06.22) ‘Love Island’ episode.
Fuming Gemma, 19, slates the 27-year-old actress after she passed on information about her feelings to their castmates.
Drama erupts when Dami Hope, 26, tells Gemma he thinks he knows her thoughts on her relationships.
He says: “You’re happy with Luca right now. I feel like it would take a lot for your head to turn but there is a small chance that it probably could if someone really came in that was 100 per cent you.
“I feel like that is where the confusion would probably come for you because we’re not here to play games. I feel like you’re still open in a sense, probably more open than Luca.”
Gemma reples: “Yeah, that was quite impressive. I don’t think you’re that far wrong.”
After Dami says their chat should remain private, Ekin-Su tells Paige Thorne, 24, and 23-year-old Jacques O’Neill – who then tells fishmonger Luca.
Gemma rages about Ekin-Su for gossiping: “You have started this, you’ve made drama over nothing!”
“You had no right to say that and knew that was going to cause s***.”
Ekin-Su insists it’s “not a big deal”, but Gemma doesn’t look ready to forgive her castmate.
Dami tells her: “Obviously it’s not going to be a nice thing for Luca to hear at all. Gemma could have her head turned” – causing Gemma to snap: “It wasn’t even said like that or meant like that.”
Ekin-Su winds Gemma up by telling her to “relax”, prompting the teenager to snarl: “You can’t drop a bomb and then tell me to f****** relax. I think that’s d***head behaviour.
“Maybe you should keep your nose out of other people’s business and shut up.”
Meanwhile, Paige pulls Jay Younger, 28, for a chat to see where his head is at.
Paige says: “I totally understand it can feel awkward and stuff when you see me be with Jacques. I just don’t like being that person in the middle, do you know what I mean?”
Jay admits: “I won’t lie, this morning when I woke up I was feeling a bit of mixed signals. If you say you’re open to getting to know me, cool, but obviously last night I saw you and Jacques had a moment together and I thought maybe it’s just a bit too late for me… .”
The Islanders are also ordered to “glam up” for a “Blue Party”.
‘Love Island’ airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

“Baby boy is here and well. And we are obsessed”
In April, Sammy revealed she had been working away on their baby’s nursery.
She posted: “Using this hot sunny day to stay home and do all my jobs I’ve been putting off for weeks, like blitzing B’s room, putting up shelves and testing out paint for the nursery. Maybe nesting is in full swing!”
Just a few weeks earlier, Sammy wondered if the couple’s new baby would look like soap star Ricky.

He shared an Instagram picture of an ultrasound photo alongside a wooden sign, which read: “Baby Champ. Due July 2022.”
Sammy wrote at the time: “Hey Baby the reason I’ve felt so terrible the last few months but for the best reason. 2022 you’re going to be the best one yet
(I also know how hard other people’s baby announcements can feel so if you need to mute/unfollow I completely understand) (sic)”

Christian Bale is open to Batman return if Christopher Nolan gives him the call

OHMYGOSSIP — Christian Bale would play Batman again if Christopher Nolan asked him.
The 48-year-old actor – who played the Caped Crusader in the filmmaker’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy – has admitted he would be open to reprising the iconic role if it was the right situation.
Asked if the offer has even come up from Warner Bros, he said: “No, no, no. Nobody, nobody reaches out to me or they keep me like a mushroom, keep me in the dark and feed me s***.
“For me, that would be a matter of Chris Nolan, if he ever decided to do it again and if he chose to come my way again, then yeah, I would consider it because that was always our pact between each other is we would just stick to it.
“We said we would only ever make three. And then I said to myself, and I’d only ever make it with Chris.”
Bale – who appeared in ‘Batman Begins’, ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ – recently admitted he still hasn’t seen ‘The Batman’, although he hailed Robert Pattinson as a “wonderful actor”.
He previously hailed the star’s casting as the DC superhero as a “good choice”.
The ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ star had one piece of advice when it comes to playing the comic book character, and it is the same tip he passed on to Ben Affleck when he took over the famous cape and cowl for the DC Extended Universe films ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, ‘Suicide Squad’ and ‘Justice League’.
Bale said: “Oh, same as Ben, just be able to pee by yourself. You don’t feel like a superhero when you aren’t able to p*** by yourself!”
Previously sharing Bale’s bathroom woes, Affleck said: “Look mate, just make sure there’s a zipper in that suit – I couldn’t p*** for three movies in that suit!”

Emma Roberts ‘to join Madame Web cast’

OHMYGOSSIP — Emma Roberts is set to join the cast of ‘Madame Web’.
The 31-year-old actress is to star alongside Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced and Tahar Rahim in the movie, according to Deadline.
The Sony film, which is set in Sony’s Spider-Man universe and will be directed by S.J. Clarkson, will be Roberts’ first Marvel movie.
In the comic books, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman who is connected to a life-support system that looks like a spider’s web.
Due to her age and medical condition, Web has never actively fought any villains and insiders have previously said the project could turn into something else.
Johnson is to play the titular character in the movie, and the 32-year-old actress recently admitted she wants to bring “heart” to the role.
She said: “I guess having experience on all tiers of films I can bring maybe some stuff from the little movies to the big movies that I want to see in them, you know? I really love seeing large-scale films that still have heart in them.
“People from ‘Cha Cha (Real Smooth)’ and some from ‘Am I Okay?’ are coming on to ‘Madame Web’ with me. It’s cool. It’s fun to be able to start creating a real team of people that make movies.”
‘Euphoria’ actress Sweeney recently revealed she has been doing plenty of research for her role.
Asked if she has been reading the source material, she said: “I am. I’ve been ordering a bunch of comic books. There’s a lot to learn.”
The 24-year-old star is a big fan of Marvel and Sony superhero films and regularly watched them as she was growing up.
She explained: “I’ve always been a really big fan of all of the Marvel and Sony Universe movies. I’ve grown up watching them all and I’ve been engulfed in the entire world my entire life, so being able to be a part of that is such an incredible, incredible thing.”

Alison Hammond’s planned Wheel of Fortune reboot ‘axed by ITV’

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Hammond’s planned ‘Wheel of Fortune’ reboot has reportedly been axed.
The ‘This Morning’ star was said to be in line to host a new version of the classic game show back in 2020, but now it looks to have been scrapped after filming some pilots.
A source told The Sun newspaper’s TV Biz column: “Execs were hoping this might be the perfect vehicle for Alison and be stepping stone to bigger things.
“It would also help with the fact there are still very few women hosting game shows on the channel, even though they’re one of the broadcaster’s biggest audience draws.
“But the feeling was doing this particular reboot of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ was not going to work, so they decided not to take the project any further with Alison.”
The show – which was a big hit in the 1980s and 1990s – launched on ITV in 1988 with Nick Campbell at the helm for eight years, before Bradley Walsh took over for a year with John Leslie following him in 1998 until the show ended in 2001.
Jenny Powell – who appeared as an assistant on the show – previously revealed she was happy Alison was tied to the reboot at the time.
She said: “I think Alison would be great and I’d definitely be there if the offer came up. “Even if it was just to give advice as I know the rules inside out.”
Jenny also revealed she had asked her agent in the past about a revival as she was keen to see the programme return.
She added: “About two years ago I asked my agent who had the rights to it – I said it should be coming back really, but didn’t do anything about it.”
Meanwhile, Alison had suggested she wanted a “hot” male assistant for the reboot.
She said: “I want to do the spinning of the wheel, and I want my own male glam model. That would be amazing – a really hot one.”

Ian McKellen cast in The Critic

OHMYGOSSIP — Sir Ian McKellen has joined the cast of ‘The Critic’.
The 83-year-old actor will play feared but respected theatre critic Jimmy Erskine in the upcoming thriller with Gemma Arterton and Mark Strong also set to star in the movie.
As reported by Deadline, Arterton will play actress Nina Land, who is looking to win Erskine’s favour, which sees her embroiled in a mystery involving blackmail, murder and more.
Strong’s character is the new owner of the critic’s newspaper, and the pair find themselves at odds with each other.
The supporting cast will include the likes of Lesley Manville, Romola Garai, Ben barnes and Alfred Enoch.
The movie is based in Anthony Quinn’s 2015 novel ‘Curtain Call’, with a story set in London’s theatre world back in 1934.
‘Leap Year’ filmmaker Anand Tucker – who hasn’t directed a feature film since the 2010 romantic comedy – will be at the helm, while ‘Notes on a Scandal’ writer Patrick Marber has adapted the novel for the big screen.
The movie is being produced by Jolyon Symonds and Bill Kenwright, with executive producers including Tucker, Marber, David Gilbery, Mark Gordon, Tom Butterfield and Harry Whhite.
It’s said production for the film is already underway in London.
Meanwhile, McKellen previously admitted he still feels like he’s “about 12” at heart.
He said: “When I was young I was always playing old parts. And, of course, I was having to imagine it.
“Because what does ‘old’ mean? I had no idea! Now that I’m old I do know. And I also know what it’s like to be young. Because as you get older, inside, you’re ageless. Inside? Quite honestly? I feel about 12.”
The ‘Lord of the Rings’ star turned 83 last month but back in 2021 he insisted actors already get so much attention that he doesn’t need his own special day every year.
He added: “Actors don’t need this special attention, I’ve realised. We get cards and presents on first nights. Everyone makes a fuss of us. Birthdays are wonderful things for people who don’t get treated as special all year round.”

The Last Girl casts Antonio Banderas, Alice Eve and Shelley Hennig

OHMYGOSSIP — Antonio Banderas, Alice Eve and Shelley Hennig have been cast in ‘The Last Girl’.
The three stars will appear in the upcoming horror with production set to get started over the summer when filming starts in Ireland.
The thriller – written by Charles Burnley – is set in a small town against the background of a murderer’s killing spree with residents held hostage with fear.
‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ actress Eve will play a private investigator hoping to discover the truth behind the murders.
Her mentor (Banderas) is the leading suspect, and she is hoping to clear his name while facing an uphill battle.
She finds an unlikely ally in a killer (Hennig), and becomes embroiled in a criminal world to unearth the truth.
Producers for the movie include Yale Entertainment’s Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman, and Michael J. Rothstein, as well as Richard Clabaugh and Hail Mary Pictures’ duo Richard Bogler and Conor Barry.
All three stars have been working on other projects recently, with Eve set to star with John Cena and Alison Brie in horror movie ‘The Queen Mary’, while she’s also appearing in Amazon Prime Video series ‘The Power’.
Hennig is poised to reprise her ‘Teen Wolf’ role as Malia Tate in a feature length edition of the MTV series, and she also stars in horror comedy ‘Gatlopp’.
Meanwhile, Banderas – who already appeared in ‘Uncharged’ earlier this year – will pair up with Penelope Cruise in Spanish language comedy drama ‘Official Competition’, and he’ll also reprise his voice acting title rose in ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ as well as starring in the fifth ‘Indiana Jones’ movie.
He recently revealed that Quentin Tarantino approached him about a ‘Zorro’ and ‘Django Unchained’ crossover movie alongside Jamie Foxx.
He said: “He talked to me, I think on the Oscar night (in 2020) when I was nominated for ‘Pain and Glory’. We saw each other at one of those parties.
“He just came up to me and I was like, ‘In your hands? Yeah, man!’ Because Quentin just had that nature to do those types of movies and give them quality.
“Even if they are based on those types of B-movies of the 60s and 70s, he can take that material and do something really interesting.”

Love Island’s Paige tells Jay she’s not interested

OHMYGOSSIP — Love Island’s Paige Thorne has let Jay Younger know she isn’t interested, leaving the path clear for her and Jacques O’Neill.
The 24-year-old paramedic had a chat with 28-year-old Jay on Monday night’s (27.06.22) episode of the ITV2 dating show and delivered the crushing news, but the investment analyst appeared to take it all well.
Speaking about her and Jacques being “solid”, Paige said: “Yeah, I think we are. We’ve had conversations it’s still Jacques and me, and I don’t want that to be a thing.”
Jay replied: “Not at all, I got that impression straight away and I was going to actually say to you tonight, ‘Paige, I’m going to back off because I don’t want to get in the way.’ You’ve got a great thing going on with Jacques so I’ll leave you guys to it.”
Despite Paige admitting she is not interested, she and Jay are still officially coupled up and are sharing a bed.
As a result, Jay joked he will “build a wall” in their bed until the next recoupling.
He opted to couple up with Paige last week while she was with Jacques, and admitted to her it was always going to be tough for him to win her around.
He said: “I made my bed and had to lie in it. I knew it was going to be difficult from the start, just the way the first week, the door was potentially open there.”
It comes after Paige recently admitted she enjoyed pillow talk with Jay amid her love triangle with rugby player Jacques, 23.
Jay asked Paige: “How are you feeling after the first night, sleeping without Jacques?”
She said: “Ah no, it was all good, I enjoyed our pillow talk, it was nice to get to know each other, do you know what I mean? What about you?”
Later in the Beach Hut, Paige smiled and said: “It’s an awkward one because the boys – Jay and Jacques – you couldn’t get more opposite guys in here, really.”
‘Love Island’ airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox.
The dating reality show can be seen in Ireland on Virgin Media Two and Virgin Media Player.

Corrie star Jennie McAlpine ‘does not love’ TV weddings

OHMYGOSSIP — Jennie McAlpine “does not love” TV weddings.
The 38-year-old actress – who eloped with long-term boyfriend Chris Farr in 2017 – has starred as Fiz Stape on ‘Coronation Street’ since 2001 and although her character is set to tie the knot with Phill Whittaker (Jamie Kenna), Jennie admitted she does not enjoy the “fuss” of TV weddings after her own was such a played-down affair.
She said: “I’ve not loved it. It was nice for about 10 minutes. You are talking to someone who in real life just went off and eloped and got married. Just me and my husband. I mean – all that fuss and all that messing about.”
The former ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here’ star – who has children Albert, seven, and Hilda, three, with Chris – went on to explain that she loathed being the centre of attention on set as her character walked down the aisle, but joked the day would be “better” than Fiz’s first wedding to serial killer John Stape (Graeme Hawley).
She told the Daily Star newspaper’s Hot TV Column: “I tried various dresses on and said, ‘That doesn’t fit, that doesn’t fit! We whittled it down to the only one I didn’t say no to. Did I love being the centre of attention walking down the aisle with everyone looking at me? Oh my God no! At least it is better than Fiz’s last wedding. It was in prison with John Stape!”
In the show, knicker stitcher Fiz was previously in a long-term relationship with mechanic Tyrone Dobbs – who was the surrogate son of classic ‘Corrie’ characters Jack and Vera Duckworth – and Jennie teased she will be wearing Vera’s earrings and the episode will feature “a big nod” to the past.
She said: “The earrings are a little nod. They are gorgeous. We remember Vera for her bright colourful earrings but these are gorgeous little pearly ones Jack gave her once for an anniversary, And there is another little nod at the end – a big nod really. A nod to the past. Wait and see.”
