OHMYGOSSIP — Susanna Reid has hailed Dame Deborah James as an “absolutely remarkable woman” following her tragic death.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter led the ITV breakfast show’s tributes to the late journalist after she lost her battle with bowel cancer aged 40 on Tuesday (28.06.22) after being diagnosed in 2018 and revealing weeks ago she had stopped active treatment and was receiving end-of-life care at her parents’ home.
On Wednesday’s episode (29.06.22) of ‘GMB’, Susanna said: “Even if you’d never met her, I think everyone felt like they knew Dame Deborah James, who has sadly passed away way too early at the age of 40. A five-year battle, of course, with cancer.
“She was an absolutely remarkable woman, who fought right to the end to raise awareness of the condition…
“Our hearts go out to her children… and her husband Sebastian, and her parents.”

He added: “She was determined not to let this cancer destroy her.
“She was always putting other people before herself, family first, but also she wanted to campaign to raise awareness of the symptoms to make it clear to people that this wasn’t just a disease for older people.”
Others have paid tribute, including the likes of broadcaster Piers Morgan.
He tweeted: “RIP Dame Deborah James, aka Bowel Babe. A truly remarkable and inspiring woman. Such sad news.”
Former ‘BBC Breakfast’ star Dan Walker said: “What a woman. What a legacy. I’m glad her family were able to spend so much time with her at the end.”
‘This Morning’ host Alison Hammond wrote: “Such Sad News . RIP Dame Deborah James ! Condolences to her family.”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson also paid his respects and praised her campaigning over the years.
He tweeted: “I’m terribly saddened to hear that Dame Deborah James has died. What an inspiration she was to so many.
“The awareness she brought to bowel cancer and the research her campaigning has funded will be her enduring legacy. Because of her, many many lives will be saved.”
And the BBC’s Director-General Tim Davie commented: “This is incredibly sad news. Dame Deborah James was a true inspiration. We’re so proud to have worked with her at the BBC.
“The way she talked about, and faced up to her cancer, moved the nation, inspired change and undoubtedly saved lives.
“Our deepest sympathies are with her family, friends, followers and her 5 Live family.”
Deborah’s family revealed the news of her passing, and included some advice from the late star.
They wrote: “A few final things from Deborah… ‘find a life worth enjoying; take risks; love deeply; have no regrets; and always, always have rebellious hope. And finally, check your poo – it could just save your life.’ ”

OHMYGOSSIP — Big Mo is returning to Albert Square.
Soap legend Laila Morse, 76, has confirmed her iconic alter ego on the BBC One show is set to cause more “mischief” this summer.
She said: “I always have so much fun playing Mo so I can’t wait to get back to the Square and see what mischief she gets up to this time.
“I’ve missed my on-screen family so much and can’t wait to see everyone again.”
Mo’s return comes as several stars prepare to leave Walford, including Danny Dyer (Mick), Danielle Harold (Lola), Ricky Champ (Stuart) and Dayle Hudson (Peter).
Mo was last seen heading for a cruise with her boyfriend Fat Elvis in 2021, leaving her sister Jean Slater to deal with a large quantity of cannabis she had left her to dispose of.
Mo’s stint will be brief, with filming set to commence during the summer.
In December, Laila ruled out ever returning to ‘EastEnders’ “full-time”.
The TV star wants to focus on new adventures – like riding a motorbike and travelling – but insisted she would go back to Albert Square for “a one-off thing” or certain plotlines involving Mo, a character she has played since 2000.
Laila’s latest stint on the BBC One soap lasted from 2018 to 2021.
She said: “I left in April. If they wanted me to go back for a one-off thing or a storyline lasting a couple of weeks I would but I wouldn’t go back full-time. I’m a bit too old for that. I want to do other things whether that’s travelling somewhere or riding around a country on a bike. I wouldn’t even mind learning how to ride a motorbike if somebody wants to teach me.”
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ star admitted to missing the cast and crew but not the “trek” of a commute.
She said: “I miss playing Mo and I miss the people but I don’t miss the travelling there and the long journey home again at night – it was a bit of a trek. I keep in touch with Jessie Wallace (Kat Slater) and Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater) – I’ll give them a ring – and I’m still in touch with Derek Martin, who played my son-in-law Charlie Slater. We talk quite a bit.”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Celebrity Juice’ is ending later this year after 14 years on the air.
The outrageous ITV2 comedy panel show – which has been hosted by Keith Lemon since its launch in 2008 – is coming to an end with a pair of special episodes later in 2022.
Leigh Francis – who fronts the show as his X-rated character Keith – tweeted: “After 14 years, 26 series, 300 eps @CelebJuice is concluding later this year with two farewell specials.
“Thank you so so much to everyone who watched, to the team captains, guests, crew and itv2.
“It was the longest most fun party! I had a wonderful time. Big love x (sic)”
The announcement was shared alongside a compilation video of classic moments from the show set to ‘Time to Say Goodbye’.
The show first aired in 2008 with Fearne Cotton and Holly Willoughby appearing as team captains, with Fearne later replaced by Paddy McGuinness, and Mel B later taking his spot.
In 2020, ‘This Morning’ presenter Holly decided to step down after 12 years, while the current captains are ‘The Inbetweeners’ star Emily Atack and ‘Love Island’ host Laura Whitmore.
Although the show originally focused on the week’s tabloid news stories, it would evolve as the celebrity guests were put through more over the top games and challenges.
ITV is yet to confirm details of the final two episodes – including potential lineups – but fans have already expressed their dismay at the show coming to an end.
One fan wrote: “One of the few shows that’s ever made me cry with laughter and unable to breathe at times! Thanks for the great memories!! (sic)”
Another said: “I’m absolutely gutted this is ending. But what a great run it’s had, Will definitely miss that on Thursday nights after the final 2 specials that air”.
And a different fan tweeted: “A bonkers but brilliant show, I’ve seen things on there I never thought I would! How the team came up with some of the ideas is beyond me. Thank you for the laughs. x (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — Kate Garraway hopes to take her husband Derek Draper to Buckingham Palace to pick up her MBE.
The ‘Good Morning Britain’ presenter’s significant other has required round-the-clock care since he contracted coronavirus in March 2020, and he is still battling the after effects after his body was ravaged by COVID, but Kate is hoping she and Derek will be able to go to Buckingham Palace for the investiture ceremony.
She said: “It was amazing! But I haven’t received it yet, so I don’t want to tempt fate in case they retract the offer!
“I do feel there’s room for celebration, though, and my hope is that if we do eventually have a ceremony, Derek will be further along in his recovery and we can go together. That would be wonderful.”
Kate, 55 admitted she and Derek, 54, are “still learning” how they are as “man and wife” since their lives were turned upside down by coronavirus more than two years ago.
She added to Good Housekeeping magazine: “When you nearly lose someone, it certainly brings everything into sharp focus.
“In many ways, we’re still learning how we are as man and wife, as so much has changed.
“It’s the same for the children – they’re having to relearn the experience of being with their dad. And, of course, the biggest learning is for poor Derek.”
Kate previously admitted she felt “very awkward” about being awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List, but was also “thrilled to bits and incredibly honoured”.
She said: “It’s strange isn’t it, because I actually feel very awkward about it all really. I don’t know why because I’m thrilled to bits and incredibly honoured, but you just sort of think, ‘What, me?’ is the first thing you think, isn’t it, and then you think it’s not real.
“So what happens – in my experience anyway – is you get a letter saying you’ve been put forward for an honour, don’t know what, would you accept it if you did? Derek’s had a bit of time going in and out of hospital recently, so I was actually with him at the time and his sister-in-law was in charge of opening letters that looked official – mainly bills, and she opened it and said, ‘Gosh I shouldn’t have opened this, this is really exciting you should have opened this yourself,’ and I said, ‘Oh for God’s sake, we need to say yes to whatever it is,’ and then you hear nothing.
“Then there was something in the papers a couple of weeks before Christmas and I thought, ‘Well I haven’t heard,’ and then on the 30th I got a letter. On the outside it said it was from Buckingham Palace and it said to Kathryn Draper Garraway on the outside. It also said MBE and I thought, ‘Well, they’re not going to get it wrong, it must be that’, and inside they just say, ‘Congratulations, very pleased to hear, really thrilled that you’ve got this honour,’ so I thought it must be true.
“But I still didn’t quite believe it until on New Year’s Eve, people started – I think it was announced with the New Year’s Honours List – people started to say congratulations. But it’s a strange feeling because it’s things that other people get.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Joe Lycett was “frightened” to come out.
The 33-year-old comedian – who identifies as pansexual – admitted that while he was growing up, fellow gay people in his hometown were “thin on the ground” and without anyone in his family to turn to for support, he found himself “frightened” to open up about his sexuality.
He said: “There was a guy who directed some musical theatre things I did as a kid. I referred to him as my gay dad and he was the one who taught me lots. They were thin on the ground: I didn’t have gay people around me that I can remember. There wasn’t anyone in my family that was out, I wasn’t out and I was frightened of being out, so I wasn’t looking for it, either. It all happened later.”
However, the funnyman added that he “couldn’t get enough” of raconteur Quentin Crisp while growing up and he “connected” with US TV show ‘Will and Grace’.
He said: “[Growing up] will have been comics like Alan Carr and Graham Norton, and I watched lots of Julian Clary on ‘Live At The Apollo’. I often get compared to him, which I’m very flattered by. But the one that I loved and obsessed over was Quentin Crisp. I couldn’t get enough. I suppose the show that started my journey was ‘Will and Grace’. I connected with the characters and their experience – that feeling of being slightly out of the norm and subculture.”
Nowadays, the ‘QI’ star is perplexed by the fact that the upcoming football World Cup will be held in Qatar, despite the country’s views on LGBT rights.
He told the Metro newspaper’s Sixty Seconds column: “The thing that’s irking me at the minute is the Qatar World Cup, that we’re allowing it to happen given the human rights abuses and the abuses of LGBT people in that country. It’s the second-worst place in the world to be gay after Nigeria. The 2026 one was going to be in Russia!”

OHMYGOSSIP — Adrian Dunbar thinks there could be a seventh series of ‘Line of Duty’.
The 63-year-old actor starred as Superintendent Ted Hastings in the smash hit BBC police drama and he believes writer Jed Mercurio has something more in the pipeline.
He said: “I think there will be something else, and he is a showrunner in the American sense, in that he’s across everything and we only have one writer – it’s him.”
‘Line of Duty’ was broadcast on a weekly basis, meaning viewers had to wait for episodes rather than bingeing them on a catch-up service, with former ‘Ashes to Ashes’ star Adrian admitted the decision was something audiences probably thought was a thing of the past.
He said: “We did something that people probably thought wasn’t going to happen again, which was people watching a programme live because of the twists and turns.”
Adrian then explained that since his star turn on the show he has felt “lucky” that audiences have embraced his character, because it can become “serious” when fans become invested in a television show.
Speaking on the ‘Out for Lunch with Jay Rayner’ podcast, he said: “I remember Cliff Parisi in one point in ‘EastEnders’ (Minty) was doing something really nasty to somebody and we were walking down the street in Crouch End and someone went, ‘Oi, you, leave her alone you b******.’
“And I thought, ‘God, this is serious the way people get involved in stuff.’
“So therefore I count myself lucky that most of the people I know like the character of Ted Hastings, love the series, so therefore when I am approached by the public, it’s usually with a big smile and, ‘Oh my God it’s you, can we have a photograph and so forth.
“Having said that, I’ve just been to Majorca and I purposely booked myself into a place where there’s only Germans!”

The former ‘Hollyoaks’ actress and her co-star and husband Emmett J. Scanlan – who have 23-month-old son Ocean-Torin together – have taken to social media to reveal they are expecting another child.
Claire – who played Jacqui McQueen in the Channel 4 soap from 2006 to 2013 – wrote on Instagram: “Our family is growing”
‘Peaky Blinders’ star Emmett – who has 20-year-old daughter Kayla Scanlan from a previous relationship – posted: “Incoming…. #ScanClan (sic)”
The couple also shared a professional picture of Claire in a field with their son touching her baby bump.
Emmett, 43 – who played Brendan Brady in ‘Hollyoaks’ from 2010 to 2013 – revealed in July 2020 that he and Claire had named their boy Ocean-Torin Scanlan.
He wrote on Instagram at the time: “Hey world, meet my world. Our world. Meet Ocean-Torin Scanlan.”
The couple lost a baby in July 2019, and Claire nearly lost her life.
Speaking about the tragedy in October 2020, to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week, Claire said at the time: “It’s baby loss awareness week and although I wasn’t quiet about our loss privately, I didn’t share it with the public, mainly I didn’t have the words at that time perhaps I still don’t but if this post helps one family or person out there, perhaps my words were worth the wait…or not.
“We lost our little soul July 2019 the devastation was unreal, the day came when my body let go of what I’d fought so hard to keep. Little did we know that I myself would also end up in a precarious situation strapped to machines fighting – it truly was hard enough losing our baby but to then fight for my own life was something else. I lost over a third of my blood my recovery was painfully slow. Instantly anaemic instantly heartbroken. (sic)”

OHMYGOSSIP — ‘Sherwood’ will return to screens in 2023.
The critically-acclaimed BBC drama – which tells the true story of two separate and unrelated murders which took place in the small mining village within a fortnight of each other almost two decades ago and starred the likes of Joanne Froggatt and Bally Gill – concluded on Tuesday (29.06.22) night but has been recommissioned for a second series.
Writer James Graham said: “I’ve been so deeply moved by the response to Sherwood. These stories come from my home, and I want to specifically express gratitude to my community for whom I know these subjects can be difficult, but – I hope – important ones to explore.”
The second series will also consist of six hour-long episodes and BBC bosses are “thrilled” with the reaction and teased that the new series will explore the “wider community” of Nottinghamshire and “build” on the world already established.
Executive Producers Juliette Howell and Tessa Ross said in a statement: “No single place is defined by just one story, and it was always our intention, and hope, that James would get to return to the wider community of Nottinghamshire to build on the world created in Sherwood and explore more characters and their stories, delving into the issues and relationships that have long shaped them. We couldn’t be more thrilled by the response to series one and are so grateful to the incredible team that has brought this show to life, including the brilliant Lewis Arnold and the phenomenal cast who have inhabited these beautifully complex characters which have so resonated with viewers. We can’t wait to return to Sherwood, with James, to start work on series two.”
The second series of ‘Sherwood’ is set to air in 2023, with casting to be announced in due course.

OHMYGOSSIP — Christine McGuinness feels “devastated” for her younger self after her autism diagnosis.
The 34-year-old model – who is married to comedian Paddy McGuinness – was diagnosed with the neurodevelopmental disorder in January 2022 and admitted that while it has come as a “positive” thing, she wishes it had happened sooner in life.
Speaking on her upcoming documentary, ‘The Secret World of Autistic Women and Girls’, she said: “My diagnosis is a positive thing and a big relief. But it’s just the devastation I feel for myself as a child. I’m heartbroken for that Christine.”
The former ‘Real Housewives of Cheshire’ star – who has eight-year-old twins Penelope and Leo, and six-year-old daughter Felicity with Paddy, all three of whom have also been diagnosed with autism – previously spoke of how she could now make sense of things with the diagnosis and could relate to the behaviour of her children.
She said: “My issues with food, my social struggles, how hard I find it to make friends and stay focused, and my indecisiveness. The way I float through life reminds me of how my eldest daughter Penelope is. It all makes sense now. And as much as I’m not totally surprised, it’s still been emotional for me to accept.”
A spokesperson for ‘The Secret World of Autistic Women and Girls’ – which will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year – explained that the hour-long documentary will explore the “untold story” of how women have been “ignored” when it comes to autism, and it will see Christine venture on a “heartfelt journey” in search of answers.
The BBC said: “The hour-long documentary will uncover the untold story of how autism in women and girls has been ignored and misunderstood by science and society – often seen as something mostly affecting men – raising new and shocking questions around the effects of gender bias in diagnoses and support.
“Christine will discover this, and more, as she goes on a heartfelt journey in search of practical answers for the thousands of other women like herself in the UK, who are spending years living undiagnosed or masking their symptoms, to the detriment of their mental health and wellbeing.”

OHMYGOSSIP — James May says filming a TV show in Italy “made him fatter”.
The 59-year-old star started hosting the ‘Our Man In…’ travelogue series back in 2020 but went on a health kick in lockdown, and before jetting off to film a series in Italy was the “healthiest” he had been for years.
He said: “Before we went away, I was making a real effort during lockdown to be healthy. I was actually by my standards. I was looking very buff. Or I was thinner than I was. I was probably the healthiest I’ve been for at least a decade. And then I went to Italy. And you can see, if you look very carefully you can see… if you watch the programmes in order, you think, he’s getting fatter!”
The former ‘Top Gear’ star – whose first outing in the series saw him venture to Japan – went on to joke that had he been born in Italy, he would love an excuse to indulge in the cuisine and would claim that has “got fat” in the name of the country.
Speaking on ‘The Dish’ podcast, he told hosts Angela Hartnett and Nick Grimshaw: “If I ate Italian all the time, I would just be like, ‘Hey, it’s hard not to I’d love that excuse.’ If I was an Italian man and I got fat from eating pasta, I’ve done that for the country. It’s patriotic. He’s eating that pizza and pasta to respect his family!”
‘James May: Our Man in Italy’ is set to be released on Prime Video on July 15th.
