Denise Van Outen to host supermarket show for Channel 4

OHMYGOSSIP — Denise Van Outen will delve into supermarket secrets in a new show for Channel 4.
The 48-year-old star is a “bargain spotter” so is excited at the thought of examining the deals offered by the likes of Lidl and Aldi on a wide range of items including hooded blankets, cocktail teapots, and candyfloss makers in ‘Secrets of the Middle Aisle’.
She said: “I’m a bit of a bargain spotter myself, so I’m really looking forward to getting to the bottom of how these supermarket offers work and whether they’re all they seem.”
Channel 4’s commissioning editor Deborah Dunnett added: “What I love about the middle aisle is how much joy it brings shoppers so we want to know the secrets behind its success.”
Although Denise has recently appeared on the likes of ‘Celebrity Gogglebox’, ‘The Celebrity Circle’ and ‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’, this marks the former ‘Big Breakfast’ presenter’s first prime time Channel 4 show since ‘Something For The Weekend’ in 2000.
And it’s been teased that there are other opportunities in the pipeline for her with the channel.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper: “Denise is proving a big hit with viewers.
“Expect to see more things with her in the future.”
Denise used to appear on ‘Celebrity Gogglebox’ with partner Eddie Boxshall but now they have split, she’s joined on the sofa for the latest series by Blue singer Duncan James.
And the blonde beauty recently praised her kind and thoughtful friend.
She said: “The big thing is we trust each other. I trust him and we respect each other as friends. ‘For me, it’s those moments when things are not going so well in your life and there’s someone who reaches out to you to make sure you’re OK.
“Dunc’s always the first, he’s got the biggest heart. He’s always the person to reach out and go, ‘Are you all right? Can I do anything to help?’ ”

Dennis Quaid and David Thewlis join Littletown

OHMYGOSSIP — Dennis Quaid and David Thewlis have joined the cast of ‘Littletown’.
The Hollywood stars will appear in the sci-fi movie alongside the likes of Isabelle Fuhrman, Josh Hutcherson and Kiera Allen, while Jonathan Sobol has penned the script and will direct the film.
Sobol told Deadline: “This is a story I am passionate about telling and I’m thrilled and humbled with the cast that has come together to bring it to life.
“With Isabelle Fuhrman in the lead working with an icon like Dennis Quaid and the incomparable David Thewlis, one of my all-time favourite actors, to younger stars like Josh and Keira – I simply couldn’t have asked for a better group of artists to work with.”
The move will tell the story of a computer scientist – played by Fuhrman – who reunites with a tech billionaire (Quaid) to work on a potential humanity-altering secret project, which comes at huge risk.
William G. Santor, Nicholas Tabarrok, and and Doug Murray will produce the movie.
Santor says Sobol is the “only filmmaker” who could direct his script.
He said: “When I read Jonathan’s original screenplay, I was so taken by the creative spin that he had taken on the sci-fi genre.
“His script makes the reader think about decisions made by scientists and how they affect the world around us and beyond. He is the only filmmaker that could direct his script into a film that genre fans will love.”
Production on the motion picture, which is set in the present day, has got underway in the Cayman Islands.

Chris Pratt teases unique voice in Super Mario Bros

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Pratt is “really proud” of his voice work on ‘Super Mario Bros.’.
The 43-year-old actor’s casting as Nintendo’s beloved plumber Mario has caused controversy because the character is Italian and now the star has opened up about the backlash and urged fans to watch the movie first, teasing he’s been able to offer something “unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before”.
He told Variety: “I worked really closely with the directors and trying out a few things and landed on something that I’m really proud of and can’t wait for people to see and hear.
“It’s an animated voiceover narrative. It’s not a live-action movie. I’m not gonna be wearing a plumber suit running all over.
“I’m providing a voice for an animated character, and it is updated and unlike anything you’ve heard in the Mario world before.”
Chris Meledandri, the founder of Illumination – who are making the film with Universal – has also defended the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ actor’s casting.
He said: “Chris was cast because we felt he could give a great performance as Mario. And now that we’ve done about 15 recording sessions, and the movie is three-quarters done, I sit here and say that I love his performance as Mario.
“[Considering I have] Italian American heritage, I feel I can make that decision without worrying about offending Italians or Italian Americans. … I think we’re gonna be just fine. Especially because (Pratt has) given such a strong performance.”
The star-studded voice cast for the movie also includes Charlie Day (Luigi), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Jack Black (Bowser), Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong) and Keegan-Michael Key (Toad).
It was recently confirmed the film has been pushed back from a release of December this year and will now hit cinemas next April.

Maddy Hill leaves EastEnders

OHMYGOSSIP — Maddy Hill has left ‘EastEnders’ after it felt like the “right time” to move on.
The 32-year-old actress bowed out of the BBC One soap in Thursday night’s (23.06.22) episode when her character Nancy Carter moved to Manchester after her boyfriend Zack Hudson (James Farrar) cheated on her with Sam Mitchell (Kim Medcalf) earlier in the week.
Maddy told Digital Spy: “It’s been great revisiting Nancy and the Square over the past year but it felt like the right time to move on for now.
“I already miss everyone and feel so grateful to work with people I have so much love for.”
A BBC spokesperson said: “We wish Maddy all the very best for the future.”
Nancy moving out of Walford also comes after she has been struggling with her mum Linda Carter’s (Kellie Bright) battle with alcoholism.
Maddy first appeared as Nancy in 2014 before departing the role in 2016, after which the actress then starred in ‘Father Brown’, and she played Ruby Spark in ‘Casualty’ for two years.
But Maddy returned to Albert Square last year to take on the role of Nancy again.
The actress revealed in February 2021 that she was returning to Walford.
She said at the time: “I’m so excited to be coming back and reconnecting with all the hilarious, warm, talented cast and crew and meeting some lovely new faces.
“I absolutely loved playing Nancy and have often wondered what she’s up to, so feel very grateful to be able to rediscover her five years on.”

Chris Pratt reveals failed auditions for Avatar and Star Trek

OHMYGOSSIP — Chris Pratt missed out on parts in ‘Avatar’ and ‘Star Trek’ before landing a role in ‘Parks and Recreation’.
The 43-year-old actor has become a major force in Hollywood in franchises like ‘Jurassic World’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, but he has opened up on a difficult period in his career when he was struggling with auditions.
Appearing on the ‘SmartLess’ podcast, he said: “I didn’t come close. It was a real – I know I’ve made light of actors feeling rejection, but I didn’t come close.
“It was so not close that it was really demoralising and made me actually truly question my potential or what I should be aiming for as an actor… For both of those. I remember… I was reading to play the role in ‘Avatar’, and in another one I was reading for Captain Kirk…
“Anyways, I just remember reading this character description, ‘He walks in and he has the It Factor’. I was feeling a little overweight, I hadn’t been taking great care of myself physically, I was in a relationship when we were drinking a lot. I walked in and I started sweating immediately.”
Pratt insisted there was nothing about his audition that was “compelling” the casting assistant on the day, and it knocked his confidence during a “lean stretch” where he wasn’t getting any acting jobs.
He added: “I had enough of those in that very lean stretch in my career where I didn’t get hired for a couple of years. It was shortly before Parks and Rec… Early on in my 20s, I was in pretty good shape, I was working out a lot, I was young.
“I was mostly getting auditions for ‘douchebag boyfriend.’ ”
Since making it in Hollywood, Pratt admitted his goals have changed, and his focus is now on enjoying his life rather than building an “empire”.
He said: “Inevitably, I have changed. I’ve grown a lot, just because I grew up in a pretty small town. I’ve just been exposed to a lot more in my life.
“I’m still ambitious, but I see peers of mine who are prolific actors, and stars of movies and brands and icons. I don’t want that.
“I don’t wanna spend all of my time trying to build an empire. You see some folks that are really driven in that way, and that’s great for them, but for me, I really feel like I want to work to live.”

Rylan Clark has not been contacted about presenting the Big Brother reboot

OHMYGOSSIP — Rylan Clark has not been contacted about presenting the ‘Big Brother’ reboot.
The ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ winner – who went on to host its sister show ‘Bit On the Side’ – has heard “the rumours” about the new ITV2 and ITVX programme and would love to present the revamp, but he hasn’t heard anything concrete about it.
While appearing on ‘The Lateish Show With Mo Gilligan’, the 33-year-old television personality said: “I keep hearing the rumours but no-one has called me. I have campaigned since the day we found out.”
Rylan urged the need for the show – which began in 2000 on Channel 4 before moving to Channel 5 in 2011 – “to go back to basics” and focus on “real people” and not be another carbon copy of current iterations of the genre, such as ITV2’s summer flagship reality dating show ‘Love Island’.
He said: “It has to go back to basics. We have got ‘Love Island’ and it is amazing and it works but I don’t want Love Islanders in the ‘Big Brother’ house.
“I want real people living in that house like Jean from Wolverhampton … I want ‘Big Brother’ back where there is no interference and no outside contact.”
Last week, the BBC Radio 2 presenter gushed about how much he was loving the “gossip chat” about the revival of the show.
Rylan tweeted: “Big Brother gossip chat and Eurovision gossip chat the same day….. Jesus loves me.”
Previously, he revealed that he would be back in “heartbeat” as a presenter.
He added: “I’ve been very vocal that I’d always love ‘Big Brother’ to come back. I miss it dearly and I think we’re screaming out for it. So fingers crossed!”
Davina McCall presented the original run of the series – which saw winners such as Craig Phillips, Pete Bennett and Brian Bello – before previous victor Brian Dowling took on the mantle for the first series when it moved to Channel 5, before Emma Willis assumed the position in 2013.

OHMYGOSSIP — Dara O Briain, Fern Brady, John Kearns, Munya Chawawa, and Sarah Millican are set to take part in the next series of ‘Taskmaster’.
The Channel 4 show – presented by Greg Davies and Little Alex Horne – is coming back to screens for a 14th season and will see five more comics compete to become the Taskmaster Champion just two weeks after the conclusion of the last season, which saw stand-up comedian Sophie Duker take the title.
It also follows the crowning of Richard Herring – who competed alongside Lou Sanders, Ed Gamble, Kerry Godliman, and Liza Tarbuck – as the 2022 Champion of Champions on Thursday (23.06.22).
The new series will see Dara – who is best known as host of the BBC Two comedy news panel show ‘Mock The Week’ – revel in the mischief.
The 50-year-old star will compete alongside internet comedy superstar Munya – who has gained a cult following for his topical parody songs – for the crown, as well as Fern, Sarah, and John.
The show’s official Twitter account posted: “See you soon, @daraobriain, @FernBrady, John Kearns (@johnsfurcoat), @munyachawawa @SarahMillican75. #Taskmaster.”
They also tweeted a teaser video of the cast hula dancing, writing: “#Taskmaster will return for Series 14… Coming soon.”
The series – which is executive produced by Alex Horne, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, James Taylor, Jon Thoday and Andy Devonshire – will debut at as-yet-unannounced date. It was commissioned by Phil Harris, the channel’s Head of Entertainment and Tom Beck, the Head of Live Events.

Alan Carr: You’ll see less of me next year

OHMYGOSSIP — Alan Carr has told fans they will see “less” of him next year.
The ‘Chatty Man’ host split from his husband Paul Drayton earlier this year after 13 years together, but he wants to take some time out from work in 2023 to “sort myself out”.
He said: “During COVID, the relationship fell apart, and I was divorced when we came out the other end. So it’s probably my most personal [tour], but it sort of works and it’s quite raw and I go to places that I don’t normally talk about. It’s like therapy really.
“Life’s given me one of those years. Professionally, it has been amazing but personally, it’s been a bit rubbish.
“I’m a grafter, I love working, I love coming up here [to Scotland]. I know there are some comedians who don’t want to go above Watford, but not to come to Scotland is a no-brainer.
“Next year, you’ll probably see a bit less of Alan. I’m going to sort myself out.”
Alan also admitted he “might find love” when he’s taking some time out next year.
Speaking to Laura Boyd on ‘What’s On Scotland’, he added: “I think I’m ready for it and, who knows, I might find love. I might find a nice Scottish man. There was a man wading in the rivers [in Inverness] and I like a man in waders …”
Alan recently admitted he would be up for taking part in ‘Celebs Go Dating’.
He said: “I would do ‘Celebs Go Dating’. It’s my favourite show.”
Alan admitted Paul was the first boyfriend he ever brought back to see his parents because he “loved him”.
He added: “I had partners before, but my Paul is my first boyfriend that I brought home to see my mum and dad, because I loved him and I didn’t care if my mum and dad said, ‘Get out’.
“It was worth doing that.”

Henry Czerny joins cast of new Scream movie

OHMYGOSSIP — Henry Czerny has joined the cast of ‘Scream 6’.
The 63-year-old actor becomes the latest addition to the growing ensemble for the latest movie in the horror franchise, which is set to be released in March 2023.
Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega are reprising their roles from the recent movie ‘Scream’ which proved to be a success both critically and commercially.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are returning to direct the new installment with Hayden Panettiere making a return to the slasher series as Kirby Reed.
Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberto, Devyn Nekoda and Josh Segarra are also set to feature in the movie.
Neve Campbell will not be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott after quitting the ‘Scream’ franchise over a salary dispute.
The 48-year-old star revealed that she did not think the wage offer for her appearance in the latest installment equated to the value she has brought to the franchise over the past quarter of a century.
In a statement, Neve – who has appeared in all five previous ‘Scream’ films – said: “Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film.
“As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to ‘Scream’.
“I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.
“It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my ‘Scream’ fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Megan McKenna “cannot believe” she’s on the same festival bill as Kacey Musgraves.
The former ‘The Only Way is Essex’ star – who on Sunday (27.06.22) will become the first former ‘X Factor’ winner to perform at Glastonbury, after she won ‘The X Factor Celebrity’ in 2019 – is so enthused about singing on the same day as her favourite singer, country star Kacey, at the iconic spectacle.
The 29-year-old country singer told The Sun newspaper: “I love Kacey so much and I cannot believe I am performing on the same day as her.
“I met her before and she was so nice. I can’t wait to see her.”
Of her debut at Worthy Farm, south west England, the former ‘Celebs Go Dating’ star believes it’s a sign the music industry are “finally accepting” of her.
Megan said: “When I heard I had been asked to play I thought, they are finally accepting me in the music industry. No matter what TV show I have been on.
“I got a lot of harsh comments when I was first doing this. People would say, ‘As if she is going to make it,’ and ‘Why does she think she can do it?’ Music was always my goal.”
The reality television personality says her new single ‘Baby Talk’ is “about not taking rubbish from a man” and admitted that she isn’t “holding back” with her music anymore.
Megan said: “’Baby Talk’ is about not taking any rubbish from a man.
“I am not holding back with my lyrics this time around. Some of the songs are tongue in cheek, some are upsetting ones and some are some really powerful.

Maddy’s character Nancy Carter departed Walford on Thursday night’s (23.06.22) episode to move to Manchester, and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ champion Rose – who plays Frankie Lewis in the BBC One soap – is sad to see her pal go.

OHMYGOSSIP — Alison Hammond used being “funny” to hide her insecurities in her school days.
The ‘This Morning’ presenter, 47, says she resorted to using comedy to help her fit in when she was younger because she used to be teased by fellow pupils.
Speaking on ‘The Capital XTRA Breakfast Show with Yinka and Shayna Marie’, she said: “You know what, I was still quite funny, but it was actually quite … maybe a little bit quieter, always trying to … just not knowing really where I fitted in really, and who were my people at the time.
“But, you know, I was still a little bit loud and, I think, again, like I said, I struggled with my reading so that was my insecurity.
“So, if anything, I probably used my comedy and the fact that I was quite funny and quick off the cuff to kind of protect myself. So, you know, I was a big girl as well, so I did get a little bit of teasing and stuff like that.
“So, because I was quick and funny, people would stop doing it because they know that they was gonna get cussed down. You know, it was more of a protection really, my comedy was more a protection – I would say it first before anyone else could say something, so it was like a protection.”
Alison believes she is not a “typical celebrity” as she is not “thin looking”.
She said: “I think when people see me, they see someone, you know, who is not your ‘typical celebrity’, you know. I’m not your thin looking … I’m not the most beautiful person you’ve ever come across.
“However, my beauty shines from inside out and I think that is what people are mainly attracted to. And I think it’s important when I’m there that people realise no matter how big you are, what colour you are, what race you are, whether you’re a woman, or a man, you can be seen, you can be heard, and it’s … you are valued as a person.
“And I think that’s what people maybe see in me, the fact that I should be allowed to do what anyone else is allowed to do because we’re all equal and when we bleed, it’s exactly the same colour.”

OHMYGOSSIP — Mel Giedroyc will front ‘The Really Really Rude Puppet Show”.
The former ‘Great British Bake Off’ host has called the new Channel 4 show a “celebration of erotic fan fiction” as each week a different star will read out a steamy story written about themselves by an amateur internet author, which will be brought to life by a series of puppets.
The 54-year comic said: “This is going to be a celebration of erotic fan fiction. With puppets. Imagine a world where Jackie Collins meets ‘Thunderbirds’.
“I’m so looking forward to a trip to ‘Love Island’ … via Tracy Island.”
Each of the six episodes will be a “private book club” where both Mel and her guest will not be told in advance what the story will entail.
Vivienne Molokwu, the programme’s commissioning editor, said: “I’m very much looking forward to steamy storytime with Mel, a gang of celeb mates and a bunch of look alike puppets.
“This is a very Channel 4 way of encouraging creative writing, where artistic self-expression will be encouraged. We may well unearth the next E.L. James in the process, which has got to be a good thing.”
Maia Liddell, from the show production company RDF Television, added: “A passion project four years in the making, we’re really excited to be delving into the creative, intriguing and erotic world of fan fiction writing. We couldn’t have a more perfect host in Mel to take the guests, and us, on these thrilling adventures.”
The show’s air date is yet to be confirmed, and the guests haven’t been revealed as of yet.

OHMYGOSSIP — Lisa Riley has returned to ‘Emmerdale’ filming following a family tragedy.
The 45-year-old star – who plays Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap – took to Instagram to reveal she was back in the ITV studios after taking a break, which also saw her miss the British Soap Awards earlier this month, following the loss of her grandmother.

In response to a fan who asked when she is back on ‘Emmerdale’ after she hadn’t been on screen “for a while”, Lisa responded: “middle of July”

Tom Hanks could disappear into the role of Colonel Tom Parker in Elvis

OHMYGOSSIP — Tom Hanks felt he could disappear into the part of Colonel Tom Parker in ‘Elvis’.
The 65-year-old actor plays the King of Rock and Roll’s manager in Baz Luhrmann’s new biopic and explained that he was happy to play a supporting role to Austin Butler’s portrayal of the late music icon.
Tom told Entertainment Weekly: “Playing Elvis is like playing Jesus, and it doesn’t really matter who plays Pontius Pilate because if you have a good Jesus, you got it.
“I had the luxury of essentially recreating somebody who no one really knew. I had a different layer of expectations.”
Tom had to spend five hours per day in the make-up chair to recreate the Colonel’s look and confessed that it was the most challenging aspect of the part.
The ‘Forrest Gump’ star explained: “The challenge for me, as well as the freedom, was having this engineered look every day. Because what you get from that is a suit of armour.”
Baz explained that the “paradox” of the Colonel – who had a controlling influence on Elvis despite helping make him a star – is what makes the character so appealing.
The director said: “If Shakespeare was looking to take on a historical character now, you couldn’t go past the idea of the Colonel and Elvis.
“The Colonel is like Falstaff with a chainsaw. Because Shakespearean villains are never just a bad guy. Colonel Tom Parker absolutely did diabolical things. But he also did extraordinarily genius things. So everything is a paradox and a coin flip. That’s what makes him so delicious.”
Butler praised the decision to cast Hanks as the Colonel as it added further complexity to the character.
The 30-year-old star said: “You can see Colonel Tom Parker as despicable, but when it’s Tom, he’s such an incredible actor, that he can justify everything and he’s not playing a bad guy in his mind.

OHMYGOSSIP — Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi are to star in the ‘Spy Kids’ reboot.
The pair are to lead the cast of Robert Rodriguez’s new family adventure alongside Everly Carganilla and newcomer Connor Esterson.
Robert is writing, directing and producing the Netflix movie that will introduce the world to a new family of spies. The movie marks Rodriguez’s second family flick with the streaming service following the 2020 film ‘We Can Be Heroes’.
The latest ‘Spy Kids’ movie takes place after the children of the world’s best secret agents unwittingly help a powerful developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology – leading them to become spies themselves to save both their parents and the world.
Racer Max Rodriguez has co-written the movie with his father while David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger are producing for Skydance – which will oversee development and production on the project.
The ‘Spy Kids’ franchise began back in 2001 and starred Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara as Carmen and Juni Cortez, who have to save their parents (played by Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino) when they’re kidnapped whilst having to contend with the small matter of saving the world.
The movie was popular with both critics and audiences and spawned three sequels and Robert explained how the franchise has an enduring appeal which made it attractive for Netflix.
The 54-year-old director explained: “My most rabid fanbase all these years, by far, has been my kid films. My ‘Spy Kids’ audience. These kids watch those movies over and over because they’re action films made for children and families, in particular at a time when they need empowerment.
“Netflix came to me because the ‘Spy Kids’ movies had done just so well on their service. They said ‘Could you make a series of films that do that?’ And I said, ‘I’d love to!'”
